TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. A WEEK AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR AN AIR BAG RECALL, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE RE-DIAGNOSED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V046000 (AIR BAGS) AND WAS TO CHECK WITH THE MANUFACTURER CONCERNING THE DEALER'S RECALL REPAIR AND THE RECALL NOTICE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND THE ENGINE COOLANT SPILLED OUT. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE STALLED, BUT RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW WATER PUMP AND RADIATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
AIR BAG LIGHT ON CONSTANT EVEN THOUGH THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENT. *TR
GOT A FLAT TIRE AND NOTICED THAT MY TWO FRONT TIRES WERE WEARING EXTREMELY UNEVENLY (BOTH TIRES LOOKED FINE ON OUTSIDE, REALLY WORN ON INSIDE). BEEN NOTICING SOME SLIPPING IN THE STEERING WHEEL FOR ABOUT A MONTH, GETTING WORSE THROUGHOUT THE MONTH. AAA CAME TO FIX THE TIRE AND SAID THE BALL JOINT LOOKED BAD AND THAT THEY "SEE THIS ALL THE TIME ON THESE VEHICLES." I HAD ALREADY HAD F23 DONE ON THIS CAR WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX THE LOWER BALL JOINTS BUT PROBABLY DIDN'T AND NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL CALLED J17 WHICH COVERS THE UPPER BALL JOINTS WHICH FOR SOME REASON DIDN'T APPLY TO MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS BUILT IN MAY 2001 AND THE AFFECTED VEHICLES WERE BUILT MAY-SEPT 2002. I SUSPECT MY VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THAT RECALL, ESPECIALLY AFTER WHAT AAA SAID AND WHAT THEY SAID AT THE REPAIR SHOP, THAT THEY SEE FAULTY BALL JOINTS ON THESE ALL THE TIME. WHY WAS MY DEFECTIVE CAR NOT INCLUDED? DID JEEP REALLY MAKE THE CARS WORSE AFTER MAY 2002 OR IS IT MORE LIKELY MINE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM? THIS OMISSION HAS LED TO AN EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS CONDITION AND UNRELIABLE STEERING. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR SINCE WE BOUGHT IT A YEAR AGO. A/C EVAPORATOR WENT BAD OUT OF NOWHERE, HIT A BUMP WHICH CAUSED ONE OF MY BRAKES TO SNAP, SOMETHING THAT'S INEXCUSABLE WITH AN SUV, IT'S JUST REPAIR AFTER REPAIR. *TR
THESE JEEP LIBERTY'S ARE KNOWN FOR THERE POOR SUSPENSIONS. THE ONE ON THIS VEHICLE IS NO DIFFERENT. THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE RECALLED IN 2006. 25000 MILES LATER THEY ARE NO GOOD AGAIN. EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN EIGHT YEARS, THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. I DID FIND THE PROBLEM BEFORE THERE WAS A SERIOUS INCIDENT. THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS ARE BOTH IN NEED OF REPAIR. A LOT OF THESE JEEP LIBERTY'S WERE RECALLED FOR THERE BALL JOINTS BUT THEY ALL SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED WITH SOMETHING BETTER. *TR
THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE CORRODED (METAL PART) AND BROKE NEAR THE THE CRIMP FITTING. CORROSION WAS NOT VISIBLE DUE TO RUBBER SHEAVE COVERING THE CRIMP FITTING CONNECTING THE HOSE TO THE METAL LINE PART. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A WRIST INJURY THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR FROM THE DEALER AFTER IT WAS THERE FOR THE RECALL WORK OF PUTTING A HITCH ON THE REAR OF THE CAR FOR A SAFETY RECALL, WHILE DRIVING HOME IN THE DARK MY CAR LIGHTS STARTED TO FLASH THEN SHUT OFF COMPLETELY, I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TURNED OFF THE CAR THEN RESTARTED IT AND ONCE AGAIN AFTER 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE LIGHTS SHUT OFF SO I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH NO HEADLIGHTS AT ALL. I CALLED THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT TO BE CHECKED. I ONLY DRIVE THE CAR DURING THE DAY NOW BECAUSE I AM AFRAID OF IT OCCURRING AGAIN. *JS
THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT AND DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY LOCKED UP CAUSING THE CAR TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND SMOKE FROM OIL COMING FROM THE BUSTED SEAL . LUCKILY THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO STOP IMMEDIATELY ON A BUSY INTERSTATE. THIS IS VERY UNCOMMON ACCORDING TO 2 DEALERS AND 3 REPAIR GARAGES, OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PART. THERE HAD BEEN NO LEAKAGE IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS OR SHAKING/SWAYING WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED CHECKED AND THERE HAS BEEN A BACK ORDER ON THIS PART FROM DODGE FOR THE PAST 3-4 MONTHS SO THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM. WE WERE LUCKY THIS DEFECTIVE PART DID NOT CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT I CALLED CHRYSLER THEY SAID THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED, BUT REITERATED THIS WAS VERY UNCOMMON. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION AROUND THE AREA WHERE THE HITCH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ATTACHED AND THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE DID NOT SUPPORT PROPER INSTALLATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,462. I OWN A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY WHICH HAD THE M35 RECALL. "AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT". I HAD THE RECALL PATCH DONE. I HAVE READ THAT THE RECALL PATCH DOESN'T FIX THE DEPLOYMENT ISSUE AND THAT THE NHTSA IS TRACKING THE ISSUES THAT ARE STILL HAPPENING AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR. 2002 JEEP LIBERTY SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT 10 MILES IN SMALL PARKING LOT TO FULL THROTTLE AT MAXIMUM SPEED REAR BRAKES SPINNING, AND SMOKE FROM REAR, BRAKES FAILED LASTED 2 SECONDS; VIOLENT SUDDEN ACCELERATION CAUSING FATAL ACCIDENT. DRIVING WITH 20YRS OF CLEAN SPOTLESS DRIVING RECORD. JEEP TOTALED, NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED. 10/4/14. SEVERE INJURIES; CRITICAL INJURIES.
HAVE TRIED FOR 3 WEEKS TO HAVE MY JEEP FIXED BECAUSE OF THE RECALL . I ENTERED 10/1/2014 AS THE INCIDENT DATE BUT DO NOT REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO [XXX]. [XXX] MUNCIE INDIANA KEEPS TELLING ME NO PARTS OR I AM ON THE LIST. ASKED THEM WHERE MY NAME IS ON THE LIST THEY SAY THEY CAN'T TELL ME THAT. WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY BOTH MY FRONT AIR BAGS, DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE, DEPLOYED. I HAD A RECALL FOR MY AIR BAGS AND WENT TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET IT REPAIRED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. THEN THIS HAPPENS. I'VE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE STATING THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN JEEP AND CURRENTLY HAVE NO CAR DUE TO THE LACK OF CARE OF CHRYSLER. *TR
I TOOK MY SAFETY RECALL NOTICE N46 TO CAROLINA CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP IN ELIZABETH CITY ON 5/13/14 AND WAS ADVISED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. I RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE N46 AND TOOK IT BACK TO CAROLINA CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP IN ELIZABETH CITY, NC ON 9/29/14. I WAS TOLD THEY HAD THE PART BUT NOT THE HARDWARE TO PUT IT ON AND THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY GOT EVERYTHING. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM ANYONE THERE AS OF THIS DATE. *TR

WE HAD THE M35 RECALL DONE AT SOUTH POINT CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE IN TULSA OK ON APPROXIMATELY AUGUST 2, 2014. ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2014 MY DAUGHTER WAS INVOLVED IN A HIGHWAY INTERSECTION ACCIDENT WHERE HER CAR SUSTAINED FRONT END DAMAGE SO BAD IT WAS TOTALED. SHE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10MPH AND THE OTHER CAR WAS GOING 65MPH. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHEN THE COLLISION HAPPENED. THE OTHER CARS AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THAT CAR WAS TOTALED ALSO. I HAVE SEVERAL PICTURES OF MY DAUGHTERS CAR IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE COLLISION. THE POLICE, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND OKLAHOMA HIGHWAY PATROL ALL WERE SURPRISED HER AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. SUBSEQUENTLY SHE HAS SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION AND IS HAVING TO HAVE SEVERAL MRIS AND CT SCANS DUE TO THE CAR ACCIDENT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY HER AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT IMPACT. I THOUGHT THIS RECALL WAS SUPPOSE TO TAKE CAR OF AIRBAGS FROM DEPLOYING INADVERTENTLY BUT DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD CAUSE THEM TO NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. ..UPDATED 07-08-15 *BF *TR *JS

I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY VEHICLE MADE A LOUD POPPING SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT CAME THROUGH THE STEREO SYSTEM. I NOTICED ALL POWER TO MY CAR WENT OUT. THE RADIO, LIGHTS, DASH, HEADLIGHTS, EVERYTHING SHUT OFF. I WENT AND TRIED EVERYTHING. I THOUGHT MAYBE A FUSE HAD BLOWN, NOT THE CASE. I REPLACED HEAD LAMPS, AND THE LIGHTS STILL DIDN'T WORK. I CHANGED MY STEERING SWITCH OUT AND HAVE SINCE FIGURED OUT IT MUST BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE? I HAVE READ MANY MANY PAGES ABOUT PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE OR VERY SIMILAR. I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT AND ITS NOT STREET SAFE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 03V460000 (SUSPENSION) AND 06V288000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

I WAS ATTEMPTING TO SLOWLY REVERSE OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WHEN I HEARD A REALLY LOUD NOISE AND MY VEHICLE JOLT. I STOPPED AND PLACED THE VEHICLE ON PARK, I GOT OUT OF MY VEHICLE AND CHECK THE OUTSIDE AND UNDER THE VEHICLE AND DID NOT SEE ANYTHING OUT OF THE NORM. HOWEVER, WHEN I AGAIN PUT THE CAR ON DRIVE, THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER AND MY VEHICLE JOLTED. I PROCEEDED TO VERY SLOWLY PARK THE CAR AGAIN AND TURN OFF. WHEN THE TOW TRUCKER DRIVER ARRIVED AND LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE, HE SAID THAT THE BALL JOINT HAD SOMEHOW HAD SEPARATED OR BROKEN OFF FROM ITS CONNECTION. HE SAID THAT IN ORDER TO TOW IT, HE WOULD HAVE TO SLOWLY MOVE IT ONTO HIS TRUCK AND IN DOING SO THE TIRE WILL COME OFF ALL TOGETHER WHICH WOULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. AS HE SAID, THE JEEP TITLED FORWARD AND CRACKED AND BROKE THE FRONT END PLASTIC TIRE COVER. I PROCEEDED TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY HOUSE, THEN RESEARCHED RECALLS ON JEEPS AND FOUND OUT THAT MY CAR HAD A RECALLS ON IT. I THEN GOT MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALER IN DOWNEY CA, WHERE WE WHERE TOLD THAT THEY WOULD FIX THE RECALLS BUT WOULD NOT FIX THE DAMAGE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. [XXX] THE SERVICE EMPLOYEE, SAID THAT WE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP SOONER TO GET FIX, I LET HIM KNOW THAT YES I WOULD HAVE IF I HAD KNOWN IT HAD A RECALL. THE DAMAGED THAT HAPPEN TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE BALL JOINT RECALL AND IT SHOULD BE COVERED AND FIX BY THE CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALERSHIP WITHOUT CHARGE. IF THE BALL JOINT ISSUE WOULD OF HAPPENED WHILE IN THE STREET OR THE FREEWAY, MYSELF AND OTHERS COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED, SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT WILLING TO COVER THE FULL DAMAGE OF MY VEHICLE WHEN IN REALITY IT COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE AND THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE. WE REPLACED THE ENGINE AT 135,000 MILES AND THE NEXT ENGINE IS DOING THE SAME THING AT LESS THAN 20,000 MILES. MECHANICS HAVE SAID THESE ENGINES WERE DEFECTIVE. LOSES VALVE AND DESTROYS PISTON. I HAVE PAID OVER $10,000 IN PARTS ALONE, NOT COUNTING LABOR. HELP!!
DRIVING ALONG BEHIND SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES, THE WEATHER WAS WARM AND THE ROADWAY WAS DRY. DUE TO A RED LIGHT, VEHICLES AHEAD RAPIDLY SLOWED TO A STOP. I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 30MPH AND APPLIED MY BRAKE PEDAL TO AVOID HITTING THE SLOWLY MOVING VEHICLE AHEAD. MY VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND I PUMPED THE BRAKES TO NO AVAIL.
