THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
2002 JEEP LIBERTY STEERING WENT OUT OF MY CAR. MODULE KNOCKED OUT BECAUSE IT KEPT CLIMBING AND DEAD BATTERY. *MW THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, WHICH CAUSED THE BATTERY TO DRAIN, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE REPAIR SHOP, PULLED OUT A FUSE IN THE DOOR PANEL. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, SHE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED FROM MULTIPLE BRUISES TO THE FACE AND BODY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY WITH THE IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND BEING INSPECTED. TWO MONTHS AGO, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V527000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE RECALL REMEDY REPAIR FAILED TO CORRECT THE AIR BAG DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
DRIVING DOWN STREET WITH NO STOP SIGNS OUT OF CORNER OF EYES I SAW A SILVER CAR SPEEDING THROUGH A STOP SIGN LUCKILY I SAW IT EARLY AND SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES, WE HIT VERY HARD I HIT STEERING WHEEL MY PASSENGER WAS INJURED TOO, MY QUESTION IS IM READING THAT 2002 JEEPS AIRBAGS GO OFF EASILY WHY DIDN'T MINE GO OFF, I BOUGHT THE CAR WHEN IT WAS 1 YEAR OLD BUT NEVER CHECKED IF IT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS, ITS SUPPOSE TO HAVE AIRBAGS IN THE FRONT AND PASSENGER SEAT, COULD THE DEALER HAVE SOLD ME A DEFECTIVE JEEP. MY JEEP CURRENTLY HAS 42,000 MILES AS OF NOV 1, 2015. IT IS 14 YEARS OLD. HOWEVER, THE 3.7 L ENGINE HAS A HISTORY (1 IN 200 AS BEST I CAN TELL FROM THE INTERNET) OF SOMEHOW COAGULATING OIL INTO SLUDGE AROUND THE 50,000 MILE MARK. THIS JEEP IS PART OF THE TRAILER HITCH AND AIRBAG RECALL, BUT AS YOU KNOW DEALERSHIPS NEVER GOT PARTS TO UPDATE. HOWEVER, IT ALSO SEEMS THE ENGINE WAS DESIGNED TO FAIL ON THESE MODELS. MECHANICS THAT WORK ON THESE ENGINES JUST SHAKE THEIR HEADS AND TELL YOU CHRYSLER UPDATED THE ENGINE TO FIX THIS BUT THAT DOESN'T HELP ANYBODY WHO HAS AN ORIGINALLY DESIGNED ENGINE. AGAIN, THESE ENGINES WERE DESIGNED TO SLUDGE. IT USUALLY STARTS WITH ROCKER ARMS CRACKING/BREAKING AND EVEN AFTER REPLACEMENT AND CLEANSING THE OIL SLUDGES UP AGAIN. OF COURSE, CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS ACT LIKE EVERY OCCURRENCE OF THIS IS ISOLATED, BUT THIRD PARTY MECHANICS KNOW BETTER. MINE HAS TWO JEEPS RIGHT NOW THAT ARE SLUDGED. BASICALLY THE SOCIAL SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT YOUR ENGINE CAN BREAK WHEN YOU'RE DRIVING. AND ALSO THAT CHRYSLER SOLD BATCHES OF THESE ENGINES THAT THEY KNEW WERE DEFECTIVE, IF NOT AT THE ORIGINAL DESIGN THEN SOON AFTER; WHEN THEY DECIDED THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. UPON ENTERING VEHICLE AND SITTING IN THE DRIVER SEAT, AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO LATCH THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT. UPON INSERTING THE LATCH INTO THE RECEIVER, THE CONNECTION DID NOT HOLD AS IT HAD THE PREVIOUS ELEVEN YEARS. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT WAS VISIBLE THAT THE RED PLASTIC LATCHING DEVICE IN THE RECEIVER WAS IN A DEPRESSED POSITION. THE SEAT BELT SLEEVE WOULD ENTER THE RECEIVER IN THE SLOT BUT WOULD NOT CATCH AND HOLD MAKING IT UNUSABLE AND THEREFORE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE LATCHING DEVICE ON THE RECEIVER WAS ABLE TO BE PRIED UPWARD AT ONE END AND, ONLY BY SLIDING THE BELT LATCH INTO THE RECEIVER WHILE BEING CAREFUL NOT TO PUSH IT ANY FURTHER THAN NECESSARY TO CATCH, IT WOULD LATCH AND HOLD. IF IT WAS PUSHED EVEN 1/4 INCH DEEPER THE LATCH WOULD STICK IN A DEPRESSED POSITION AND A SECURE CONNECTION WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE. IT THEN NEEDED TO BE MANUALLY POPPED BACK UP INTO THE POSITION TO RECEIVE THE BELT LATCH BY USING A TOOL WITH A HOOKED PIECE OF METAL ON IT SIMILAR TO A KNITTING NEEDLE OR A BOTTLE/CAN OPENER ON A POCKET KNIFE. PRYING IT UP WITH A SCREWDRIVER MAY ALSO WORK BUT MIGHT TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, BEING CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE RECEIVER. *TR

I OWNED THE JEEP FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. IT RAN GREAT, NO PROBLEMS THEN OUT OF NO WHERE IT WOULDN'T START. SOUNDED LIKE THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AND JUST NOT TURNING OVER AND HAD IT LOOKED AT ABOUT TWO DAYS LATER. HE TOLD ME THAT THE SECOND CYLINDER HAD NO COMPRESSION THEREFORE THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN. PERSONALLY I LOVE JEEPS AND WOULDN'T WANT ANYTHING ELSE BUT AFTER HEARING THIS, AND HAVING IT BE A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL I WOULD HAVE CHOSEN A LITTLE WISER. THE JEEP ALL OF SUDDEN STARTS TO ACCELERATE AND WILL NOT STOP ACCELERATING EVEN WHEN ON THE BRAKE. MY DAUGHTER FIRST EXPERIENCE IT AND HAD TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND TURN OFF JEEP. I THEN EXPERIENCE IT AFTER SHE TOLD ME ABOUT IT I WAS STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN IT STARTED TO ACCELERATE.I HAD NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME I HAD TO TURN RIGHT THE JEEP FELT LIKE SOMEONE HAD THERE FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL WHEN I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I HAD TO PULL INTO DITCH AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON AND TURN OFF JEEP. EVERY TIME I STARTED THE JEEP THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP LIKE THE PEDAL WAS STUCK TO FLOOR PLEASE HELP MY DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS JEEP. THIS IS THE THIRD NOTICE I HAVE RECEIVED REGARDING THE IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL OF MY JEEP LIBERTY. IT SAYS CHRYSLER INTENDS TO INSTALL AN OEM TRAILER HITCH TO BETTER MANAGE CRASH FORCES IN LOW-SPEED IMPACTS, BUT THE PARTS REQUIRED ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. I DRIVE MY JEEP AROUND IN FEAR EVERYDAY OF SOMEONE HITTING ME AND EXPLODING INTO FLAMES WITH MY CHILDREN INSIDE. I'VE READ ARTICLES SAYING THE JEEP IS A WORSE DEATH TRAP THAN THE PINTO EVER WAS! IN MID JANUARY WAS SENT A RECALL NOTICE. TRIED TO SETUP AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THEY SAID THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE YET AND I WOULD RECEIVE ANOTHER CARD STATING WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. IT IS NOW MID APRIL AND NO CARD. I HAVE CALLED TWICE AND THERES NO STATUS OF WHEN I CAN GET THIS FUEL TANK RECALL REPAIRED. THERE IS A DANGER OF UNDERBODY FIRE IN REAR COLLISIONS. I WOULD LIKE THIS REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. *JS

I WAS DRIVING TO UNLOCK MY OTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE MY HUSBAND LOCKED THE KEYS IN THE CAR. I HAD MY TWO YOUNG BOYS, 2 AND 3 YEARS OLD WITH ME. I WAS ON AN INTERSTATE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE WHEEL LOCKS UP AND I SEE SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD. BLEW THE ENGINE!!!! I WAS STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, NO CELL PHONE, THE NIGHT BEFORE A TERRIBLE ICE STORM THAT WAS HEADED MY WAY. VERY SCARY SITUATION. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT WAS HAPPENING TO ME. PROBLEM: THE FUEL TANK ON VEHICLE HAS A SMALL CHANCE OF EXPERIENCING A FUEL LEAK DURING CERTAIN TYPES OF REAR END COLLISIONS. FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN AN UNDERBODY FIRE. HELLO, I HAVE A JEEP LIBERTY 2002 4X4. I HAVE BEEN NOTICING A STRONG GAS SMELL RECENTLY. THE DEALER FOUND IT'S SCHRADER VALVE LEAKING. I ASKED THEM TO SHOW ME THE PROBLEM. SO, WHEN THEY TRIED TO START THE CAR - THE FUEL WAS POURING FROM THE SCHRADER VALVE. I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I SAW IT. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS DRIVING THIS CAR ALMOST EVERY DAY TO GO TO WORK AND SOMETIMES WITH MY WHOLE FAMILY DURING THE WEEKEND. I FEEL LUCKY IT DIDN'T BURN. THE LOCK MOTOR/LINKAGE FOR THE REAR SWING DOOR STOPPED WORKING. THIS IN AND OF ITSELF ISN'T A BIG DEAL BUT APPARENTLY EVERY TIME I CLICKED THE KEY FOB TO UNLOCK VEHICLE FOR ENTRY THE MALFUNCTIONED LOCK MOTOR CAUSED BATTERY DRAINAGE. IN JUST A MONTH A BRAND NEW BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AND COULDN'T HOLD A CHARGE. I AM LUCKY THAT I WAS ONLY STRANDED A MILE FROM HOME. THERE SEEMS TO BE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD IT CAUSE MORE THAN BATTERY DRAINAGE. ELECTRICAL FIRES ENSUED. *TR

WE WERE TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON I75 AT A SPEED OF ONLY APPROXIMATELY 15MPH DUE TO A CAR ACCIDENT AHEAD OF US. ALL OF SUDDEN MY CAR DROPPED AND I HEARD A SCRAP OF METAL AGAINST ASPHALT. I SLOWLY PULLED CAR OVER TO CENTER MEDIAN AND GOT MY CHILDREN TO THE CENTER OF THE GUARDRAILS TO KEEP THEM SAFE. UPON EXPECTING VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT THE WHEEL ON THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED AWAY FROM THE CAR, THE MOLDING WAS DETACHED AND THE METAL THAT HOLDS THE WHEEL IN PLACE WAS SITTING ON THE ROADWAY. WE HAD TO WAIT FOR OVER 3 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK DUE TO NEEDING A TOW TRUCK THAT HAD A LIFT, NOT A FLATBED. BY THE TIME THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED, THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED AND WE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP THAT COULD HAVE THE REPAIRS COMPLETED FOR US BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE BALL JOINT NUT FELL OFF OF THE BOLT THAT HOLDS IT IN PLACE. THE ENTIRE BALL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS LUBRICATED. THE REPAIR PERSON CHECKED THE OTHER SIDE AND SUGGESTED WE TAKE TO HAVE INSPECTED, AS IT DID NOT HAVE A COTTER PIN TO HOLD THE NUT ONTO THE BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY. THE TOTAL COST FOR THE REPLACEMENT WAS $240. BECAUSE OF OUR SPEED, NO ONE WAS HURT. DUE TO THE FACTS KNOWN ABOUT THE JEEP LIBERTY, I WAS THANKFUL WE WERE NOT TRAVELING AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 70MPH OR WE WOULD HAVE HAD A VEHICLE TURN OVER AND POSSIBLE INJURIES OR DEATH.
