I HAVE RECEIVED THREE NOTICES REGARDING RECALL ON THE ORC MODULE FOR JEEP LIBERTY 2002 AND 2003. EACH TIME NOTICE HAD BEEN RECEIVED I ATTEMPTED TO SCHEDULE SERVICE APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RECTIFIED. EACH TIME WAS TOLD THERE WAS A BACK LOG BECAUSE OF NUMBER OF RECALLS AND COULDN'T GIVE ME WHEN THIS PART COULD BE REPLACED. NEEDLESS TO SAY IM RECEIVING ANOTHER NOTICE STATING THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS MATTER BUT NO INDICATION WHEN PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. I DRIVE EVERYDAY AND MY SAFETY IS AT RISK AS AND IT IS NOW OVER A YEAR WITH NO RESOLVE. *TR
I WAS HEADING TO FRIEND'S PLACE AND HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE HIGHWAY WHEN I PULLED INTO HER STREET. I WENT UP A SLIGHTLY RAISED DRIVEWAY IN ORDER TO TURN THE CAR AROUND WHEN I HEARD A LOUD, GRINDING SOUND. I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE SOMETHING HAD GOTTEN STUCK UNDER THE CAR, SO I GOT OUT TO CHECK BUT SAW NOTHING. I GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND CONTINUED TO REVERSE IT IN ORDER TO PARK, BUT THE NOISE STARTED RIGHT BACK UP AGAIN AND STEERING HAD NOW BECOME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. I EVENTUALLY PARKED THE CAR, GOT OUT AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL WAS BENT IN BECAUSE THE BALL JOINT HAD COME OUT. I KNOW THAT THERE WERE RECALLS REGARDING THIS IN 2003, 2006 AND 2009. I AM PLANNING TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW TO ALERT THEM OF THE SITUATION. HOWEVER, ANY HELP THAT YOU CAN HELP ME WOULD BE GREAT! THANK YOU! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V537000 (STEERING). HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
AIR BAG LIGHT COME ON WHILE DRIVING THEN GOES OFF THEN COMES ON AGAIN AT RANDOM . SOMETIMES 2 OR 3 TIMES A DAY .. NOTHING FOR ABOUT A MONTH THEN BACK ON ALL OVER AGAIN THEN OFF,,,, WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. HAS BEGUN TO DO IT MORE OFTEN... I AM AFRAID THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY FOR NO REASON WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE ME TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
DROVE IT THE NIGHT BEFORE AND IT RAN PERFECTLY FINE. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. COME OUT TO GO TO WORK IN THE MORNING AND TURN THE KEY AND THE ENGINE WAS KNOCKING REALLY BAD. SO I TURNED IT OFF AND TRIED IT AGAIN AND GOT THE SAME THING AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC WHICH IS 1/8MILES AWAY. HE REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES AND STILL DOING IT. HE SAID THE ENGINE HAS FULL COMPRESSION. HE CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. NOT EVEN A 100,000 MILES ON IT YET. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN JEEP... THE MECHANIC SAID I NEED A NEW ENGINE. 3.7L 2003 JEEP LIBERTY AND IT HAVE SEEN OTHERS HAVING THIS SUCH PROBLEM TOO. JEEP NEEDS TO STEP IN AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I WILL RUIN THEIR REPUTATION SO BAD BY SOCIAL MEDIA. FRIENDS FROM ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND OTHER COUNTRIES WILL FIND OUT THAT JEEP IS A JOKE AND DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLE. AIR BAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON FOR NO REASON. ONLINE FORUMS REPORT IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR 2002-2003 JEEP AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY WITHOUT WARNING. JEEP DOES NOT OFFER FREE REPAIR. I'M FILING A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I THINK THIS IS SOMETHING JEEP SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. *TR
SINCE THE SPRING OF 2012 MY AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AT ODD TIMES. SOMETIMES IT IS DURING BRAKING AND SOMETIMES IT IS NOT. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO DANGER AND NO RECALL. EARLIER THIS YEAR I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM THE CHRYSLER GROUP. SAFETY RECALL M35/NHTSA 12V-527. MY FIRST CALL TO THE DEALER WAS IN FEBRUARY OR MARCH AND I WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS AND ASKED ME TO CALL BACK IN APRIL. SINCE THEN I HAVE TAKEN MAY CAR OVER AT LEAST 3 TIMES. THE SERVICE MANAGER, [XXX], INSISTED THAT I HAD TO ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 7:30 AM ON A MONDAY MORNING. HE REFUSED TO GIVE ME ANY OTHER APPOINTMENT TIME. AT THE 3RD VISIT THEY FINALLY LOOKED AT MY JEEP AND CONFIRMED THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE AIR BAG. TO DATE THEY HAVE STILL NOT FIXED IT. EVERY TIME I CALL I GET THE SAME ANSWER, "WE DON'T HAVE THE PART YET. WE WILL CALL YOU WHEN WE DO." I ASKED IF I SHOULD GO TO ANOTHER DEALER IN A DIFFERENT CITY, BUT HE STATED THAT THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS EITHER. I HAVE ALSO CALLED THE CHRYSLER GROUP RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER LISTED IN THE RECALL NOTICE ONLY TO BE ON HOLD FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND THEN GET DISCONNECTED WITHOUT EVER SPEAKING TO ANYONE. MY AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON AT ODD TIMES. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT WILL DEPLOY WHEN I AM NOT EXPECTING IT. CAN YOU HELP ME GET MY CAR FIXED? AIR BAGS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON CRASH WHERE THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
IN MY DRIVEWAY, I STARTED THE IGNITION, THEN PAUSED TO FINISH TEXTING. WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, STILL IN PARK, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SUDDENLY DEPLOYED. I HAD ENOUGH TIME TO COVER MY FACE WITH MY ARMS BEFORE THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. I HAVE A MINOR BURN ON MY FOREARM, AND MY EARS ARE STILL RINGING, BUT WAS OTHERWISE UNHARMED. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE SINCE I WAS ON MY WAY TO PICK UP MY SMALL CHILDREN. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND NO WARNING LAMPS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS FRACTURED AND CAUSING THE IGNITION SWITCH TO MALFUNCTION. AS A RESULT, THE STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
MY KEY WILL NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION OF THE 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS NOT LOCKED AND I TRIED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO JIGGLE/TURN THE WHEEL, JIGGLE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTER, ETC. THE KEY WAS INSERTED FULLY BECAUSE ELECTRICAL CAME ON TO ALERT ME THAT THE KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION (WHEN I OPENED THE DRIVER DOOR THE WARNING BEEPS CAME ON TO SIGNIFY KEY STILL IN IGNITION). THE IGNITION SIMPLY WOULD NOT TURN. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND HAVE SINCE LEARNED FROM ONLINE RESEARCH THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP LIBERTY'S AND MANY CHRYSLER PRODUCTS. THE SOLUTIONS SEEM TO BE PATCHWORK WORKAROUNDS THAT PEOPLE HAVE COME UP WITH INDEPENDENT OF CHRYSLER'S HELP. *TT
MY GIRLFRIEND JUST EXITED OFF OF JTB IN JACKSONVILLE BEACH, FL ONTO MARSH LANDING PARKWAY AND CAME TO A NORMAL STOP IN TRAFFIC (NOT ABRUPT OR SUDDEN IN ANY WAY). AS SITTING, CHIME WENT OFF AS IF THE GAS WAS LOW. LOOKED AT DASH AND SAW THAT GAS WAS NOT EMPTY AND THAT AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. AT THAT MOMENT, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER, THE DRIVER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO AN OFFICE COMPLEX AND STOP, VERY DESTRAUGHT AND UPSET OVER WHAT HAD HAPPENED. A COUPLE PEOPLE SAW WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND STOPPED. THERE WAS ALSO A COP THAT SAW WHAT WAS GOING ON AND PULLED OVER. SHE SUFFERED MINOR PHYSICAL INJURIES, BUT HER CAR IS SITTING AT MY HOME UNDRIVABLE. (THIS HAPPENED ABOUT A QUARTER OF A MILE FROM HOME, SO I DROVE IT HOME). I HAVE FILED AN INVESTIGATION WITH JEEP AND AM AWAITING THEIR CALL. SHE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING-ANYONE AND NOTHING-NO ONE HIT HER. SHE HAS HAD A JEEP DEALERSHIP DO ANY WORK ON IT ANYTIME IT NEEDS IT. ALL RECALLS HAVE BEEN FOLLOWED. SHE WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE CAR AT THE TIME. TT
AIRBAG DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON WHEN DRIVING ON FREEWAYS HAVING SPEED OF 65 MPH, VERY DANGEROUS , CAN NOT SEE ROAD IN FRONT OF, BECAUSE INFLATED AIRBAG AND KIND OF DUST AND SMOKE FROM AIRBAG, TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY, BUT PERSONAL ALERTNESS MADE IT AT CURBSIDE, WAS LUCKY TO AVOID DANGEROUS ACCIDENT. *KB

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE SERVICE WHEN THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE BALL JOINT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V288000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I WAS ADVISED BY MY JEEP DEALERSHIP THAT MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY NEEDS BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT UPPER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED. 2003 JEEP LIBERTY VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 2002 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2002 HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THIS COMPONENT. THE CHRYSLER RECALL IS NO. J17 (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 09V119000; NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA08008). MY JEEP LIBERTY WAS MANUFACTURED IN OCTOBER 2002 - ONE MONTH AFTER THE RECALL PERIOD AND THEREFORE ISN'T ELIGIBLE FOR THIS RECALL. IN RESEARCHING CHRYSLER RECALL NO J17, THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE UPPER CONTROL ARM ISSUE WAS NEVER DETERMINED. IT WAS ONLY DETERMINED THAT 70% OF INCIDENTS OCCURRED DURING THIS TIME PERIOD WHILE ONLY ACCOUNTING FOR 11% OF VEHICLE PRODUCTION (A "SPIKE"). I ARGUE THAT SINCE MY JEEP WAS MANUFACTURED ONE MONTH AFTER THE RECALL PERIOD, AND REQUIRES UPPER CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT, IT IS THE SAME ISSUE EXPERIENCE BY VEHICLES UNDER THE J17 RECALL. I ASK THAT EITHER: (1) CHRYSLER REPLACE MY UPPER CONTROL ARMS FREE OF CHARGE -OR- (2) NHTSA / ODI EXTEND THE RECALL TO COVER THE REMAINING 2003 JEEP LIBERTY VEHICLES NOT COVERED UNDER J17. I ASK FOR NHTSA / ODI'S ASSISTANCE IN SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FROM CHRYSLER AND INVESTIGATING EXTENSION OF THE J17 RECALL. *TR
ALL FOUR GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES SIDEWALLS HAVE SEPARATED FROM TIRES AROUND WHITEWALL BAND. THUS RENDERING THE TIRES TO BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ALL FOUR TIRES ARE BEING REPLACED. GREAT AMOUNT OF TREAD REMAINING ONLY DRIVEN 30K MILES ON THEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE WHEN SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND FRACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 127,700. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER WINDOWS HAD FALLEN DOWN INTO THE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE WINDOW REGULATORS WERE FRACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 107,000.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND STAYED ON. *TR
HAD A CAR FAIL TO STOP AT A CROSS ROAD STOP SIGN AND I HIT HER (TBONE) STYLE LOTS OF FRONT END DAMAGE TO MY LIBERTY. MY AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. I HIT THE STEALING WHEEL AND BROKE MY STERNUM. *TT
MY HUSBAND WAS TAKING HIS SON BACK TO HIS MOTHERS HOUSE RUNNING ABOUT 55MPH WHEN A LARGE BUCK CAME OUT IN FRONT OF THEM. THE HOOD AND GRILL WAS SMASHED IN WITH THE RADIATOR AGAINST THE MOTOR. IT WAS STILL DRIVABLE BUT WASN'T ABLE TO HOLD WATER TO KEEP FROM OVERHEATING. THERE WAS NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. THE INSURANCE SAYS IT MUST BE A LARGE ACCIDENT FOR THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. THE JEEP IS NOT TOTALED BECAUSE THE AGENT SAID HE WAS TRYING NOT TO TOTAL IT OUT SINCE WE WERE SO CLOSE TO HAVING IT PAID OFF. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE AIRBAGS WOULDN'T DEPLOY ON SUCH A HARD IMPACT. YOU CAN SEE THE SKID MARKS FOR ABOUT 20 FEET. THERE IS DEER HAIR STUCK INTO THE HOOD OF THE JEEP. I HAVE BEEN IN A COUPLE ACCIDENTS BEFORE AND THEY WEREN'T AS SERIOUS AS THIS BUT THE AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY. THERE NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING DONE FOR THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE MANUFACTURER WOULD HAVE TO AUTHORIZE THE REPAIRS FOR THEM TO INSPECT AND DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE NOW HAS 67000 MILES ON IT. THE AIR BAG LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY CAME ON AT 63000 WHEN HITTING SMALL POT HOLES IN THE ROAD, THEN IT FINALLY CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT BOTH MODULES FAILED THAT ARE IN THE DRIVER AND PASSAGER SEAT, AND IT WOULD COST ME $557.31 TO HAVE IT FIXED. I CALLED CHYSLER ABOUT THIS FOR SOME HELP WITH THE COST TO HAVE IT REPAIRED, BUT THEY SAID NO, I SHOULD MAYBE CALL YOU AND FILE A COMPLAINT, SO I AM ASKING YOU TO INTERVENE WITH CHYSLER ON MY BEHALF. ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET AT BAILEY CAR.COM/RECALLS, NHTSA SAID THERE HAVE BEEN INJURIES FROM THE UNEXPECTED FRONT BAG DEPLOYMENTS. I WAS LUCKY THAT I HAD MY AIRBAG LIGHT PROBLEM CHECKED BEFORE THE AIRBAGS UNEXPECTEDLY DEPLOYED. BECAUSE THERE ARE SEVERAL CONSUMERS LIKE ME OUT THERE THAT ARE UNKNOWINGLY SUBJECT TO SERIOUS INJURIES, I FEEL THAT YOU SHOULD REQUEST THAT JEEP RECALL ALL THE 2002 AND 2003 LIBERTY JEEPS FOR THIS MALFUNCTION. *TT

MY STEPDAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2003 JEEP LIBERTY IN HER GRANDMOTHER'S DRIVEWAY WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD THUNK CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP DUE TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE SEPARATING FROM THE VEHICLE. WE CHANGED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE BALL JOINT AND CONTROL ARM DUE TO FAILURE AND TIRE SEPARATION FROM THE VEHICLE. IT WAS WELL THAT MY STEP DAUGHTER WAS NOT TRAVELLING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A FASTER RATE OF SPEED BECAUSE THAT SURELY WOULD HAVE ENDED WITH A MORE SERIOUS RESULT. I SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN THREE RECALLS RELATED TO THE CONTROL ARM AND BALL JOINTS. THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL THAT ACTUALLY HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL IN 2006, BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. I'M VERY MUCH CONCERNED FOR MY STEP DAUGHTER'S SAFETY WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE AND I HOPE THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE SOON TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM.
THE REAR WINDOWS ON MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY STOPPED WORKING. THEY WOULD NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN USING THE BUTTONS. THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THEM UP IS TO PUT TAPE ON THEM. AT FIRST THE ONLY TIME THE WINDOW WOULD COME DOWN WAS WHEN I WOULD BE DRIVING. THEN THEY WOULD NOT STAY UP AT ALL. THIS CREATED A PROBLEM WHEN IT WAS RAINING. THERE WERE TIMES WHEN MY ENTIRE BACKSEAT WAS WET BECAUSE OF THE WINDOWS FALLEN DOWN. A MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS THE WINDOW REGULATOR. I JUST HAD A MECHANIC REPAIR ONE OF THE WINDOWS. IT COST ME $385 DOLLARS TO GET ONE WINDOW REPAIRED. I COULD ONLY AFFORD TO GET ONE DONE, SO I STILL HAVE TAPE ON THE OTHER WINDOW. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED ME AN ESTIMATE OF $600. ALSO, I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE OTHER OWNERS SAID THEY HAVE HAD TO CHANGE OUT THE REGULATORS MORE THAN ONCE. I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP REPLACING THOSE REGULATORS.
