HEADLIGHTS GO OFF & ON WHILE DRIVING, ACCOMPANIED BY RELAY CLICKING NOISE. *TR
HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AND HEAR CLICKING NOISE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS FLAW. THIS IS INTERMITTENT AND THE DEALER CAN NOT SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM. IN DOING RESEARCH THERE IS A LARGE HISTORY OF THIS EXACT PROBLEM ON THE JEEPS FROM YEARS 2002-2004. THE LIGHTS FINALLY CAME ON BUT ON A DARK CURVEY HILL WITH CLIFFS COULD HAVE CAUSED A INJURY OR FATAL CRASH. *TR
WINDOW REGULATOR FAILS AND WINDOW STAYS DOWN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES ON MY 2002 LIBERTY AND NOW FIVE TIMES ON MY WIFE'S 2003 LIBERTY. IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS DEFECTIVE PART. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE WINDOWS WERE OPENED ON THE VEHICLE YET SHE HAD NOT ENGAGED THEM. THE CONTACT THEN ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE WINDOWS AS THEY EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL SQUEALING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW REGULATOR WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 86,075.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH, THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED; ALTHOUGH, A CRASH DID NOT OCCUR. THE DRIVER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WITHIN TWO SECONDS THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING ON THE ROAD THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE AIR BAG TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO AVOID A CRASH; HOWEVER, THE DRIVER'S NECK WAS INJURED WHEN THE SEAT BELT SUDDENLY TIGHTENED. THE CONTACTS INSURANCE COMPANY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THE FAILURE WAS NOT A KNOWN PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE INSERTED THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION, IT WOULD NOT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT A PIECE OF THE STEERING COLUMN BROKE AND WAS PREVENTING THE KEY FROM TURNING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE UNLESS SOMETHING LONG WAS STUCK INTO THE IGNITION LIKE A SCREWDRIVER, THE IGNITION COULD NOT BE TURNED OVER. THE MECHANIC CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WERE NO LONGER MAKING THE PART NEEDED FOR REPAIR AND THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THE ACTUATOR ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW MALFUNCTIONED. THE WINDOW BECAME STUCK SHUT AND WOULD OPEN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WHERE THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
AROUND FEBRUARY 2011, MY AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED ILLUMINATING RANDOMLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT WOULD COME ON, I WOULD HEAR THE CHIME, AND THEN IT WOULD TURN BACK OFF. EVENTUALLY IT BEGAN STAYING LIT LONGER AND LONGER UNTIL FINALLY IT STAYS ON ALL AT TIMES. I CAN'T RECALL IF ANY CERTAIN SPEEDS MADE ANY DIFFERENCE BUT IT SEEMED LIKE IF I WAS TO HIT A BUMPY PART IN THE ROAD OR SIMILAR THEN I WOULD EITHER SEE THE LIGHT COME ON OR IF IT WAS ALREADY ON, IT WOULD GO OFF. NOW IT NEVER TURNS OFF. I HAVEN'T BEEN TO THE DEALER BECAUSE I KNOW THE RUN AROUND ILL BE GIVEN JUST AS EVERYONE ELSE I'VE READ ABOUT. I HAVE RESEARCHED HOW AIRBAG SYSTEMS OPERATE AND HAVE SLOWLY BEGAN MY OWN PROCESS OF DETERMINING WHAT IS THE CAUSE. ONLY PROBLEM, EVERY THING I READ STATES THAT I SHOULD NOT PLAY AROUND WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM AND OFFERS NO INFO RELATED TO TESTING PROCEDURES. I WORK ON CARS AND ELECTRONICS OFTEN, SO IF I JUST HAD THE CORRECT INFORMATION TO FEEL SAFE, THEN I WOULD SURELY TRY FINDING THE PROBLEM MYSELF. WITH THIS SAID, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THIS AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WONDER ALL THE TIME, WHEN IS MY AIRBAG GOING TO EXPLODE IN MY FACE. I'LL REMOVE THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM FROM THE VEHICLE MYSELF IF CHRYSLER DOESN'T REACT QUICKLY. I REPLACED 2 WINDOW REGULATORS. BOTH IN THE BACK DOORS. SUCH A COMMON OCCURRENCE THAT THEY HAVE CREATED A REPAIR KIT SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO PURCHASE THE WINDOW MOTOR AGAIN. STILL THE POINT IS, YOU SEE THESE PROBLEMS, STAND UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING. WE (CONSUMERS) ARE THE REASON YOU ARE ABLE TO MAKE VEHICLES. ALSO I DON'T KNOW IF THIS HELPS BUT I HAVE REPLACED 2 BATTERIES SINCE 2008. I WAS STARTING TO BELIEVE THE DROP IN BATTERY VOLTAGE MAY TRIGGER THE AIRBAG LIGHT BUT THAT WASN'T IT. WHAT IS DRAINING THESE BATTERIES? ALTERNATOR IS CHARGING AROUND 14.5 VOLTS. I CAN DISC. BATTERY, RECONNECT AND RADIO STATIONS ARE STILL SAVED. HOW? *TR
ON MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE WHILE DRIVING HOME ON I-15 THE DOOR LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH IT WAS OBVIOUS A WINDOW WAS ALSO OPEN AS THE ON RUSH OF WIND, I PULLED OVER TO FIND THE BACK DOOR WAS AJAR AND THE WINDOW WAS DOWN, I PULLED ON THE HANDLE TO CHECK IT OUT AND CLOSE THE DOOR, AND A RED LOOKING TYPE OF COIL APPROX 10 INCHES LONG WAS STICKING OUT AND LAYING ACROSS THE DOOR LOCK AND JAMMING THE DOOR LOCKING DEVICE INSIDE THE DOOR, I HAD TO SHOVE IT BACK INTO THE DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY TO GET THE DOOR SHUT. THIS RED COIL IS THE MECHANISM THAT CONTROLS THE WINDOW AS MY LEFT REAR WINDOW REGULATOR HAS FAILED AND THE WINDOW STAYS ALL THE WAY DOWN. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH ALL FOUR WINDOWS, THE LAST TIME IT WAS IN FOR REPAIR WAS 4 MONTHS AGO AND IT COST ME MONEY EACH TIME, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS CAUSED THE DOOR TO POP OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING. I HAVE HAD IT IN FOR WINDOW REGULATOR PROBLEMS APPROX 12 TIMES. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING INTO THIS FOR ME AS THE DODGE REPS JUST SHRUG THEIR SHOULDERS LIKE THEY DON'T BELIEVE IT OR JUST DON'T CARE. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS HAZARD, LEMON LAW, NATIONAL NEWS, CLASS ACTION , SOMETHING. NEXT TIME I WILL TAKE A PHOTO , AND CALL WITNESSES. *TR
CONTROL MECHANISM FOR THE RIGHT REAR ELECTRIC WINDOW BROKE AND WINDOW FELL DOWN. WOULD NOT ROLL UP. MECHANIC SAID CONTROL WAS BROKEN AND THAT WHOLE CONTROL MECHANISM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS THAT IS THE ONLY WAY THAT JEEP SELL PART EVEN THOUGH ONLY PART OF MECHANISM WAS BROKEN AND ELECTRIC MOTOR STILL WORKED. VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR FOR A PART THAT SHOULD BE SOLD SEPARATELY. I HAVE SEEN OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A FAULTY PART ON THE JEEP LIBERTY. CAR ONLY HAD 68,000 MILES EVEN THOUGH IT IS A 2003. *TR
I HAVE A JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE 4X4 WITH ONLY 38,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE QUICKWAY (HWY 17 IN MIDDLETOWN, NY) WHEN MY CAR DROPPED DEAD IN THE ROAD WITH NO INDICATIONS OF ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. IT HAD GAS IN IT, IT'S FLUIDS WERE ALL CHANGED, ETC. I FOUND OUT LATER THAT THE SPRING BROKE CAUSING THE ROCKER ARM TO DROP OUT THEREFORE CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. HAD I BEEN DRIVING IN THE PASSING LANE OR MIDDLE LANE OF THE QUICKWAY, MY SON AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD PARTICULARLY IF A SEMI WAS BEHIND US OR A MAJOR CRASH IF IN EITHER LANES. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE AND COULD COAST OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD TO RELATIVE SAFETY. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN IN A CAR WITH ONLY 38,000 MILES ON IT? THIS, IN MY OPINION IS A SAFETY DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE CARS AND FIX THEM. I CALLED THE DEALER JUST RECENTLY AND WAS TOLD THAT CHRYSLER WOULD PAY FOR PART OF THE REPAIRS IF I HAD THE OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS. MY HUSBAND DOES ALL THE MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE, FOR THE MOST PART, HE DIDN'T KEEP THE RECEIPTS. ALSO, THERE ARE MAJOR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS HAPPENING AND THE DEALERSHIPS ALSO KNOW ABOUT THIS DEFECT IN THE 3.7 AND 4.7 ENGINES FROM 2002 TO, I BELIEVE, 2007. SO, I AM SURE THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THIS. I AM READY TO TAKE THIS INFORMATION AND HEAD TO THE LOCAL NEWSPAPERS TO GET THEM TO PUT OUT THIS INFORMATION AND TO PUT PRESSURE ON CHRYSLER AND THE DEALERSHIPS. MY JEEP HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY SINCE DEC 8TH, 2010 BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (RT17) HEADING NORTH, DOING ABOUT 55 AND GOT OFF AT EXIT 120 OR 121 AND AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE RAMP AT ABOUT 35 MPH DURING RUSH HOUR MY CAR JUST CAME TO A HALT. I HEARD A DING DING, NOTICED I HAD NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES AND COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE RAMP. IT WENT FROM RIDING WITH NO PROBLEMS TO JUST DEAD. I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS RIDING IN THE PASSING LANE OR THE MIDDLE LANE OF RT. 17 IN MIDDLETOWN, NY. I PROBABLY WOULD BE DEAD. MY SON WAS WITH ME ALSO. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED HOME AND MY HUSBAND LOOKED AT IT AND TOLD ME THAT THE SPRING HAD BROKEN AND COME OFF AND THE ROCKER ARM AND TWO CLIPS. WE STILL DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE TO THE ENGINE. APPARENTLY, AND THIS IS FROM A JEEP MECHANIC. IN BOTH THE 3.7 AND 4.7 ENGINES, THE VALVE SEATS ARE STEEL AND THE CYLINDER HEADS ARE ALUMINUM AND THE TWO METALS CONTRACT DIFFERENTLY AND WHEN THEY DO THE VALVE SEATS FALL OUT OF THE HEAD. I HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM LISTED ON THE INTERNET BY SO MANY PEOPLE THAT IT'S UNFAIR THAT JEEP CAN DO THIS TO PEOPLE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR WITH AN INHERITANCE , I DON'T HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX IT. I HAVE BOUGHT THE ROCKER ARM, THE SPRING AND THE CLIPS BUT STILL AT THIS TIME NEED A ROCKER ARM INSTALLER. THIS CAR HAS BEEN KEPT UP ON ALL FLUIDS AND CHANGES.
WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS TURNED ON AND OFF EVERY COUPLE OF SECONDS. I HAVE DUPLICATED THE SCENARIO ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. HEADLIGHTS WORK FINE WITHOUT THE FOG LIGHTS ON. WHEN FOG LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON, HEADLIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS TURN ON/OFF. I HAVE NOT USED FOG LIGHTS AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS. MECHANICS CAN NOT DUPLICATE SCENARIO. THEY SAY IT MAY HAPPEN ONLY WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. *TR
EVER SINCE MY ISSUE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS AND FOGLIGHTS TURNING ON/OFF BEGAN, I HAVE A CONSTANT RELAY CLICKING NOISE TO THE LEFT SIDE OF MY STEERING WHEEL AND MY IDLING RPM'S DROPPED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY ULTD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD RUMBLE FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER BALL JOINT WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 257,000.
AFTER BUYING THE CAR AS JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE 2003 USED AT ABOUT 40,000 MILES. THE SECOND TIME I DROVE THE CAR ON THE INTERSTATE THE CAR STARTED STALLING AND RUNNING VERY ROUGH. I LIMPED IN FOR ABOUT 15 MILES TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY CRANK SENSOR. THAT WAS REPLACED AND CAR RAN FINE FOR 4 YEARS. NOW WITH 66000 MILES THE CAR STALL WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED. RESTARTED AND TOOK CAR IN AND PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY CRANK SENSOR AGAIN, BUT PART HAD TO BE ORDERED AND CAR WAS RUNNING FINE. SO I DECIDED TO DRIVE CAR WHILE WAITING FOR THE PART AND NEXT DAY THE CAR WOULD NOT START. WHEN TOW TRUCK ARRIVED CAR STATED FINE BUT HAD CAR TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED BUT THE SHOP STILL WAS HAVING PERIODIC STALLING PROBLEM. IT WAS FINALLY DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY CAM SHAFT SENSOR WHICH WAS REPLACED AND NOW THE CAR IS RUNNING FINE. LOOKS LIKE JEEP HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SENSORS IN THE JEEP RENEGADE MODEL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL 09V119000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARMS) IN NOVEMBER 2010. ON NOVEMBER 18, 2010, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT; THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE REPAIR FOR THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN PERFORMED APRIL 2010. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
I'VE REPLACED THREE FRONT DRIVE SHAFTS ON MY LIBERTY SPORT WITHIN A YEARS TIME. THIS JEEP ISN'T ABUSED AND IS DRIVEN IN THE CORRECT MODE FOR THE ROAD CONDITIONS. THE BELIEF IS THAT THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WILL NOT DISENGAGE PROPERLY BUT NO ONE SEEMS ABLE TO FIND THE ROOT CAUSE OF THESE MALFUNCTIONS. I BASICALLY HAVE NO "SHIFT ON THE FLY", AND MUST BE STOPPED WITH THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL WHEN ENGAGING OR DISENGAGING ANY FOUR WHEEL DRIVE MODE. SOMETIMES IT REQUIRES MANY ATTEMPTS TO FULLY DISENGAGE! IF UNABLE TO DISENGAGE THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, EVEN FULL TIME MODE, THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT COMES "UNGLUED" WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE TRANSFER CASE AND BASICALLY MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE AND UNABLE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT IS REMOVED, WHICH IN TURN NULLIFIES THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE FEATURE. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY JEEP TURN THEMSELVES ON AND OFF RANDOMLY. WHEN THE LIGHTS TURN ON AND OFF THERE IS A "CLICKING" NOISE INSIDE THE CAR NEAR THE DRIVERS SEAT/DASHBOARD. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2010 AND AFTER SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE TRIED TO TROUBLESHOOT THERE HAS BEEN NO WAY TO RECTIFY AND DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM SINCE IT IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD INVOLVE MANY VEHICLES AND MAYBE DEATH OF SOME PASSENGERS AND DRIVERS DUE TO THE ABILITY NOT TO SEE MY VEHICLE. I RECOMMEND THAT CHRYSLER PLACE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE ASAP SINCE I AM NOT THE ONLY LIBERTY OWNER THAT HAS THIS ISSUE. IT SEEMS TO BE AFFECTING LIBERTIES CROSSING OVER SEVERAL YEARS IN THIS TIME FRAME. *TR
IN OCTOBER OF 2010 PASSENGER SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT FAILED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT. DISCOVERED A RECALL WAS ORDERED ON VEHICLE BUT NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE. ON 10/26/2010 DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY DID REPLACE BOTH LOWER BALL JOINTS HOWEVER ON 11/11/2010 DRIVER SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEED CAUSING A SERIOUS AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT. THERE WAS ALSO SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE AND AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *TR
WINDOW REGULATOR INSIDE THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR BROKE AND CAUSED THE WORM CORD TO SHOOT OUT OF THE DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM. THEREFORE THE WINDOW FELL INSIDE OF DOOR AND DOOR WOULD NOT SHUT OR LOCK AND THE WINDOW WILL NO LONGER MECHANICALLY MOVE UP OR DOWN. *TR
JEEP LIBERTY WINDOW FALLING INSIDE DOOR -- EIGHTH (8TH) TIME ON THIS VEHICLE. SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF CHILDREN RIDING IN THE REAR SEAT AND WINDOW IS UNABLE TO BE BROUGHT TO A CLOSE. WHILE DRIVING MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT, I HEARD A LOUD AND DISTRACTING THUD, ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT THE BACK WINDOW ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HAD FALLEN INTO THE DOOR. THE DOOR ALSO BECAME JAMMED AND I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN IT FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED TO THE OTHER BACK WIDOW JUST 9 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. AT THAT TIME I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP, AND PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED.I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING IN THE JEEP LIBERTY. THE ISSUE IS A CHEAP, PLASTIC PART USED IN THE WINDOW REGULATOR. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, AND CHRYSLER WILL ONLY REPLACE THIS PART WITH ANOTHER CHEAP PLASTIC PART, RATHER THAN USING A STURDIER METAL PART. THIS IS AN EXPENSE ISSUE AS WELL AS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE NOISE THE WINDOW MAKES WHEN IT FALLS IS VERY DISTRACTING. ALL THE DOORS AND WINDOWS SHOULD BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES, AND THE DRIVER SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE WINDOWS, IN ORDER TO AVOID DANGEROUS DEBRIS FLYING INTO THE CAR, NOT TO MENTION HAVING SOME CONTROL OVER OUTSIDE ELEMENTS. (WEATHER) CHRYSLER REALLY SHOULD DO A RECALL, AND STOP CHARGING JEEP OWNERS TO FIX WHAT IS THEIR FAULT IN THE FIRST PLACE-IT IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE JEEP LIBERTY. TOWED TO MECHANIC, TOLD CODE REGISTERED CAM SHAFT SENSOR. REPLACED! PICKED UP VEHICLE, DROVE 4 MILES, SHUT DOWN AGAIN. IF VEHICLE SITS AND COOLS OFF, IT WILL RESTART. DROVE BACK TO MECHANIC, HE REPLACED CAM SHAFT SENSOR - THINKING IT WAS DEFECTIVE. NEXT MORNING, ON WAY TO WORK, STALLED WHILE DRIVING AGAIN. SO, THREE DAYS IN A ROW, SAME PROBLEM. VERY DANGEROUS!!!!!!. THIS TIME CODE REGISTERED COMPUTER PROBLEMS, AND HE SUGGESTED I TAKE TO DEALER, AS CODE PART WAS COVERED UNDER FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY. TOOK TO DEALER ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22 - 8 DAYS NOW (ALSO NEED TO DO RECALL WORK, APPARENTLY THAT'S NOT HIGH ON A DEALER'S LIST) AND HE SAID HE CAN'T GET IT TO STALL, AND HIS CODE IS REGISTERING A TRANSMISSION ISSUE. I KNOW I'M A 'GIRL', BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE THAT THE CAR WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN IF THE TRANSMISSION HAD GEAR PROBLEMS. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN! WONDERING WHY NO RECALL - SEEMS LIKE OTHER JEEP OWNERS HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS (READING THREADS ON INTERNET). I THINK DEALER MAY BE TRYING TO SAVE COSTS, BECAUSE I TOLD HIM I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN THE VEHICLE AND MAY TRADE OR SELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM AND ENGINE VALVES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

SHE WAS SOMEHOW ABLE TO PULL OVER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITHOUT HAVING AN ACCIDENT. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS A BROKEN VALVE SPRING FOR AN INTAKE VALVE, SIMILAR TO MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR JEEP LIBERTYS. THIS LIBERTY ONLY HAS ABOUT 60K MILES AND VALVE SPRINGS SHOULD BE ABLE TO LAST 150K+ MILES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A RELATIVELY COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR THIS VEHICLE AND IT SHOULD BE UNACCEPTABLE FOR AN ENGINE WITH THIS LOW MILEAGE TO HAVE VALVE SPRINGS BREAK.
