YESTERDAY EARLY EVENING, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60MPH ON A HIGHWAY IN GARLAND, TEXAS, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY AIRBAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT CAUSE. THERE WAS NO IMPACT TO THE CAR AT THE TIME OF DEPLOYMENT, SUDDEN STOP OR ANYTHING THAT WOULD IMPACT THE DEPLOYMENT. IT DEPLOYED, I LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND WENT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. NO EVENTS THAT WOULD LEAD TO THE DEPLOYMENT, NOT EVEN THE LIGHT THAT INDICATES "AIR BAG. " IT IS NOW LIT BECAUSE IT DEPLOYED, I'M ASSUMING. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG CAUSED BURNS ON MY ARM AND A SWOLLEN WRIST. I WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP SOON. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE YET. *TR
OUR VEHICLE BEGAN STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING ON A MAIN ROAD. WE PULLED OVER AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START IT AGAIN WHITE SMOKE BEGAN COMING OUT. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO GET US HOME. IT WAS SITTING IN THE MAIN ROAD AND I HAD MY CHILDREN WITH ME. THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR STARTED UP AGAIN. WE TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE AND THE CRANK SENSOR SHOWED UP. I BOUGHT A CRANK SENSOR AND TOOK IT TO FUCCILLOS IN ADAMS NY. THEY REPLACED IT AND SAID THAT THE CRANK SENSOR WAS SEIZED INTO THE ENGINE. WHEN IT WAS DONE I PICKED IT UP BUT THE SAME ISSUES BEGAN. THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH SHOWED ANOTHER FAULTY CRANK SENSOR, A CAM SENSOR AND THERE WAS GAS IN OUR OIL. THEN I WAS TOLD 3 IGNITION COILS WERE MELTED. THEN I WAS TOLD ANOTHER COIL WAS BAD. CHRYSLER SAID THAT WHEN THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH YOUR CRANK OR CAM THAT THE COILS WILL REMAIN HOT EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS OFF. LOOKING ON LINE, MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUES-SOME HAVE THE SAME ISSUES OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I CALLED TO ASK IF THERE WAS A RECALL BUT WAS TOLD NOT OF YET. *TR
VEHICLE: 2003 LIBERTY LTD WITH 110,000 MILES. UPON ACCELERATION FROM A DEAD STOP, OR WHEN COASTING THEN ACCELERATING, OR SHIFTING UNDER LIGHT-TO-NEUTRAL THROTTLE, THERE IS A NOTICEABLE CLUNK FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL, SIMILAR TO A WORN UNIVERSAL JOINTS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND FOUND THAT THE SPIDER GEARS WERE EXTREMELY WORN CREATING ABNORMAL CLEARANCES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 MODEL (OTHERS?). THIS IS LIKELY DUE TO A POOR DESIGN OR MATERIALS. BROKEN OR DISLODGED SPIDER GEARS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO SEIZE THE ROTATING ASSEMBLY AND SEND THE VEHICLE INTO AN UNCONTROLLED SKID. PARTS ORDERED AFTERMARKET TO BE INSTALLED ON A DATE TBD. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. SEEMS TO ONLY HAPPEN DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V119000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM) AND WHEN CONTACTING THE DEALER, SHE WAS TOLD THE PARTS NEEDED TO MAKE THE REPAIRS WERE ON BACKORDER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO SECURE AN APPOINTMENT FOR HER. THE DEALER ADVISED PLACING HER ON THE WAITING LIST AND THE DEALER COULD NOT CONFIRM WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE RECALL HAS EXCEEDED A REASONABLE TIME FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 120,000.
WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN ONTO MY ROAD FROM ANOTHER DRIVEWAY, MY FRONT LEFT TIRE SEPARATED FROM IT'S JOINT, MAKING IT UNABLE TO DRIVE. THE TIRE WAS MANUALLY TIED BACK IN PLACE WITH A STRAP AND DRIVEN TO A NEARBY GARAGE (ABOUT 40FT.AWAY.) FINALLY A CALL WAS MADE TO CHRYSLER DESCRIBING THE INCIDENT. ON APRIL 23, 2010 A CALL WAS MADE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE RECALLED PARTS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS HAD TO BE ORDERED IN. WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVE, THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CALL ME TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. AS OF TODAY, 5/4/2010, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING ON DAMP PAVEMENT IN DAMP/MISTY (BUT NOT RAINY) CONDITIONS, ON A ROADWAY WITH A MODERATE UPHILL SLOPE AND GRADUAL LEFT CURVE, THE CRUISE CONTROL DOWN-SHIFTED FROM OVER-DRIVE DIRECTLY INTO 1ST GEAR. THE INCREASED TORQUE ON THE REAR WHEELS/TIRES CAUSED THE CAR TO LOSE REAR WHEEL TRACTION AND THE SUBSEQUENT COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE JEEP LIBERTY SPUN AROUND A TOTAL OF 540 DEGREES AND CAME TO REST IN A DITCH OFF THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SOME DAMAGE. THIS CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CRUISE CONTROL DOWNSHIFTING MULTIPLE GEARS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED ON MANY OTHER OCCASIONS IN THIS MODEL OF CAR, NEARLY CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL DEPENDING ON ROADWAY CONDITIONS. *TR
GOING 60MPH, MY ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED THEN VEHICLE DIED. I WAS STUCK ON THE FREEWAY, AFTER A MINUTE WAS ABLE TO RESTART (THOUGH CAR SHAKING BADLY) AND GET TO THE SIDE. IT WAS IMMEDIATELY TOWED TO THE MECHANIC, AND THEY DIAGNOSED A BROKEN VALVE SPRING, AND SAID IT'S AN EXTREMELY RARE OCCURRENCE FOR A VEHICLE THIS AGE. IT?S A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY WITH 91000 MILES. OTHER THAN THE VALVE SPRING, THE ENGINE IS IN GREAT CONDITION. THERE'S CONCERN ABOUT REPLACING IT BECAUSE HE FEELS IT COULD BE A FACTORY DEFECT, AND THERE?S ANOTHER SPRING VALVE, SO WE'RE DECIDING WHETHER TO REPLACE BOTH, OR THE WHOLE ENGINE. IN RESEARCHING WE'VE FOUND THIS SEEMS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH LIBERTY'S 2002-2005, AND I ASSUME ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY WRITING ABOUT IT. ALSO FOUND; 1)REPLACEMENT PARTS LISTED ARE REFURBISHED, OR NEW. THERE'S NO REFURBISHED AVAILABLE, ONLY NEW. COULD MEAN THERE'S A FLAW SO THEY WOULDN'T WANT TO REFURBISH THE OLD ONES, BECAUSE YOU WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, SO A NEW ONE, WITH BETTER COMPONENTS ARE THE ONLY ONES AVAILABLE. 2)I STATED THE FLAW SEEMS TO APPEAR 2002-2005, AND WHEN LOOKING AT THE VALVE SPRING 2003 PART# VS 2006 PART#, 2006 THE NUMBER CHANGED, WHICH MIGHT MEAN THEY FIGURED IT OUT, AND PUT THE UPDATED PART IN THE 2006 MODEL. IT SEEMS TO BE THE INTAKE VALVE, NOT EXHAUST VALVE WITH DEFECT, AND IN THE 2003/2006 PART NUMBERS THE INTAKE# IS DIFFERENT, BUT EXHAUST# IS THE SAME. I CALLED JEEPS NAT'L CUSTOMER COMPLAINT CENTER, FILED COMPLAINT, WAS GIVEN THE RUNAROUND, AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE MY MECHANIC WAS NOT CHRYSLER, THEY COULDN'T TRUST HIS FINDINGS. I WAS REPEATEDLY TOLD MY CAR WAS OLD, YET ALOT OF PEOPLE REPORTED THE SAME THING; THEIR MECHANICS SAY IT?S A VERY RARE OCCURRENCE THAT A VALVE SPRING BREAKS, ESPECIALLY WITH THE MILEAGES BEING REPORTED. *TR
SAFETY RECALL J17 I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND ASK TO ORDER THE PARTS AND HE SAID THEY WILL CALL ME WHEN THE PART COMES IN, THAT WAS ON 5/21/10, I CALLED BACK LAST WEEK AND BEEN TOLD THE PART STILL WAS NOT IN. I ALSO BEEN TOLD THEY ONLY DO 1 CAR PER WEEK, IF THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG? *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V119000: SUSPENSION FRONT, CONTROL ARM) AND UPON CONTACTING THE DEALER WAS TOLD THAT THEY ONLY RECEIVED ONE SET OF PARTS PER WEEK. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE WAS NUMBER FIVE ON THE DEALERS WAITING LIST, WHICH MEANT HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE VEHICLE REPAIRED FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER FIVE WEEKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THERE WERE NO FAILURES AT THIS TIME. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW COULD NOT BE OPERATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW POWER REGULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE REPAIR WAS MADE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW ALSO EXHIBITED THE SAME FAILURE. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW COULD BE OPENED PARTIALLY, BUT THE WINDOW WOULD STOP MIDWAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT A RESPONSE WAS NOT RECEIVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,644. UPDATED 06/12/12*LJ THE LEFT FRONT POWER WINDOW WAS NOISY AND BARELY OPERATING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE REGULATOR. UPDATED 06/13/12
THE POWER WINDOW REGULATORS IN BOTH BACK WINDOWS HAVE FAILED TWICE, CAUSING THE WINDOWS TO FALL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF THESE FAIL DURING AND ROLLOVER ACCIDENT AND THE WINDOW FALLS A PERSON CAN BE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. IT ALSO POSES A THREAT FOR VEHICLE THEFT OR ABDUCTION BECAUSE OF AN UNSECURED VEHICLE. ON APRIL 3 2010 OUR REAR DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME AND THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR HAS ALSO FAILED TWICE ALL SINCE JULY OF 06'. ONLINE FORUMS HAVE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES. *TR
MY REAR PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOW FELL DOWN AND WOULD NOT GO BACK UP. I TRIED THE AUTOMATIC PUSH BUTTONS AND ALL MY OTHER WINDOWS WORKED, BUT NOT THAT PARTICULAR WINDOW. THEN THE CORD GOT CAUGHT AND I COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR FOR MY FRIEND TO GET OUT OF THE BACK SEAT. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING WITH MY CAR AND NOTHING HIT MY CAR. THE WINDOW FELL DOWN ON ITS OWN. *TR
REAR BRACKETS HOLDING THE SEAT TO THE POWER ADJUSTER HAS FAILED. YOU CAN TIP SEAT FORWARD AND WHEN EMERGENCY BREAKING IS NEEDED SEAT SHIFTS MODERATELY FORWARD. THIS IS A HAZARD TO ME AS THE DRIVER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. SIX MONTHS AGO HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE UPPER BALL JOINTS, BUT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THEY WILL CONTACT HIM WHENEVER THE PARTS ARRIVE. THE DEALER CONTINUES TO STATE THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIRS. HE CONTINUES TO CONTACT THE DEALER BUT HAD NOT TRIED ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000. TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE FRONT END COLLAPSED WITH SEPARATION OF THE FRONT DRIVER WHEEL AXLE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS IDENTICAL TO A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V119000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.
TWICE NOW ON MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WINDOW HAS FALLEN INTO THE DOOR. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS IN APPROX 2007. BOTH TIMES WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE WINDOW WAS PARTIALLY DOWN, I TRIED TO ROLL IT BACK UP, BUT IT WOULDN'T MOVE. I THEN TRIED TO PULL IT BACK UP AND THE ENTIRE WINDOW FELL DOWN INTO THE DOOR. THE FIRST TIME IT COST APPROX $400 TO REATTACH THE WINDOW AND REPLACE THE FAULTY CONNECTOR PART. NOT YET SURE WHAT THE COST WILL BE FOR THIS REPAIR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WITH MY DAUGHTER RIDING IN THE BACK SEAT. APPARENTLY, THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THESE WINDOWS FAILING MULTIPLE TIMES ON THE SAME CAR... TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE FRONT SUSPENSION DROPPED CAUSING THE FRAME TO SIT ON TOP OF THE TIRE. THE CONTACT TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT WAS BROKEN. THE MECHANIC NOTICE A RECALL FOR THE SUSPENSION;FRONT;CONTROL ARM BUT THE VEHICLE VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED IF THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGHER SPEED THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. THE CONTACT FEELS THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
I OWN A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW SLIPPED OFF THE TRACK IN 2008. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE OVER $400 TO REPAIR AT DEALER. THEN ON FEB 20 2008 THE OTHER REAR WINDOW SLIPPED OFF THE TRACK AND BEGAN TO FALL INTO THE DOOR. THE WINDOWS WILL NOT STAY UP ON THEIR OWN AND I FEEL THAT THERE HAVE BEEN FAR TOO MANY COMPLAINTS FOR CHRYSLER TO NOT MAKE THIS A RECALL ISSUE. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY ASKED ME TO CONTACT CHRYSLER. I SPOKE WITH CHRYSLER AND THEY HAVE MY INFORMATION AND HAVE SENT IT ON TO THE RESOLUTION TEAM AND I SHOULD RECEIVE A CALL BY MONDAY 6PM 3/1/10. *TR
FOR THE PAST MONTH OR SO, MY STEERING WHEEL IGNITION LOCKING MECHANISM HAS BEEN NERVE RACKING. I PUT THE KEY IN, BUT IT DOESN'T EVEN TURN...ALMOST LIKE I AM USING THE WRONG KEY. IF I JIGGLE A BIT IT WILL WORK...BUT LAST NIGHT NOTHING WAS WORKING. NOW - MY STEERING COLUMN IS LOCKED, SO I CAN'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO SPIN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE I TRY THE KEY. IT HAS BEEN TOWED, WHICH NOW WILL COST ME AN ARM AND A LEG I AM SURE TO FIX. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND WAS SURPRISED TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING. WE ARE ALL HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. I HAVE READ THINGS LIKE BROKEN SHIFT INTERLOCK CABLE, BROKEN IGNITION ROD, ETC... I AM PUZZLED WHY THIS HASN'T BEEN BROUGHT TO THE SURFACE AND THERE IS NO RECALL. THIS IS DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE THAT HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN, LIKE MYSELF, INCASE I AM STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. WHO KNOWS WHAT LOWLIFE WOULD CROSS MY PATH ALL BECAUSE JEEP WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HASN'T SO MUCH AS EVEN RECOGNIZED THE ISSUE. I WILL NEVER BUY A JEEP AGAIN. *TR
FAULTY EVAPORATOR VALVE - THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A DIFFERENT VIN GROUP, BUT THIS EXHIBITS THE SAME FAULT. *TR
2003 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED. DRIVERS POWER SEAT ADJUSTER FAILURE. ALL 4 BRACKETS HOLDING THE SEAT TO THE POWER ADJUSTER HAS FAILED. YOU CAN LIFT THE DRIVERS SEAT OFF THE POWER SEAT ADJUSTER AND THE SEAT TIPS BACKWARDS WHILE THE JEEP IS IN MOTION. MY JEEP IS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN AT ALL BECAUSE THE BROKEN SEAT IS A SEVERE SAFETY PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED EASTGATE CHRYSLER, DODGE AND JEEP, INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA ABOUT THIS SAFETY PROBLEM AND SAID THAT THIS NOT A RECALL PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE POWER SEAT ADJUSTER IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER WITH A DELIVERY DATE OF UNKNOWN. I CONTACTED THE JEEP HOME OFFICE ABOUT THE BROKEN POWER SEAT ADJUSTER. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THE POWER SEAT ADJUSTER PROBLEM ALSO INCLUDES THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND THE CHRYSLER 300. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL NOT HELP ME WITH MY PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. THE POWER SEAT ADJUSTER BRACKETS ARE MADE OUT OF VERY THIN STAMPED SHEET METAL [.015 THICK]. ALL 4 MOUNTING POINTS FAILED WITHIN 2 DAYS OF DRIVING. WHEN THE LAST MOUNTING POINT ON THE POWER SEAT ADJUSTER FAILED, IT NEARLY CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE SEAT TIPPED BACKWARDS. I HAVE CURRENTLY SECURED THE DRIVER SEAT WITH HEAVY DUTY TIE WRAPS. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN THE JEEP TO SOME WELDERS TO TRY TO WELD THE POWER SEAT ADJUSTER BRACKETS MOUNTING POINTS REPAIRED AND WAS TOLD THAT THE METAL IS TOO THIN TO BE SAFELY WELDED. THE DRIVERS POWER SEAT ADJUSTER ON MY JEEP HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS THERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY BLOWER MOTOR. AT FIRST, I HAD NO AIR ROTATING AT LEVEL ONE. THEN, I WOULD HAVE NO AIR ROTATING AT ALL. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V119000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM). THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. MY DAUGHTER JUST HAD ANOTHER JEEP LIBERTY WINDOW REGULATOR FAILURE ON A PASSENGER REAR DOOR CAUSING THE DOOR GLASS TO FALL INTO THE DOOR. THIS IS THE 5TH REGULATOR FAILURE ON THE REAR DOORS SINCE SHE HAS OWNED THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST ONE WAS UNDER WARRANTY (NO CHARGE), BUT SHE PAID FULL COST ($300-$350) ON TWO AND A $25 DEDUCTIBLE (CO-PAY AS CHRYSLER CALLS IT) ON THE LAST ONE AND A PROJECTED $100 CO-PAY ON THIS ONE----AS I TALKED TO CHRYSLER YESTERDAY ON THIS LATEST ONE. IT APPEARS THAT NO TWO SITUATIONS ARE HANDLED THE SAME WAY BASED ON THE JEEP FORUMS I'VE VIEWED AND BASED ON MY EXPERIENCES. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY SHOULD AT LEAST BE CONSISTENT, BUT I BELIEVE IT DEPENDS ON WHICH CSR YOU TALK WITH. YESTERDAY'S CSR TOLD ME THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY THE SAME AS A CUSTOMER WHO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH ITS STANDARD $100 DEDUCTIBLE. THE CSR EARLIER THIS YEAR ON THE $25 CO-PAY TOLD ME THAT CHARGE WAS SO THEY COULD WARRANT THE PART FOR 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES AND FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE SHOULD THE PART GO BAD AGAIN. OBVIOUSLY, CHRYSLER KNOWS THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM HERE--IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THERE IS A TSB ON THIS ISSUE. I UNDERSTAND THEY NOW REPLACE THE WINDOW ALONG WITH THE REGULATOR BECAUSE THERE HAS BEEN A DESIGN CHANGE IN HOW THE REGULATOR ATTACHES TO THE WINDOW--SO THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM (BUT NO RECALL). THOSE WHO ARE PAYING FULL PRICE FOR REPAIR ARE BUYING A NEW WINDOW, TOO--AS IF THE COST TO REPLACE THE REGULATOR ISN'T EXPENSIVE ENOUGH. I HAD ISSUES WITH MY HEADLIGHTS FLICKING ON AND OFF, REMAINING OFF UPON USING MY TURN SIGNAL. I OWN A JEEP LIBERTY 2003. HOWEVER THE MULTI-FUNCTIONAL SWITCH AND LABOR COST ME 165.00 AND THE NEW SWITCH INSTALLED WAS NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY, SO I PAID THAT FOR A BAD SWITCH. ON 08/03/09, I HAD MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY TOWED TO MY LOCAL 5-STAR CHRYSLER DEALER (MILEAGE = 148520). THE RIGHT FRONT BALL JOINT HAD BROKEN WHILE I WAS MAKING A TURN IN THE PARKING LOT. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER HAD TO PULL MY VEHICLE UP ONTO THE FLATBED, AS IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO DRIVE IT, NOT EVEN A FEW INCHES. DURING THE LOADING OF MY VEHICLE ONTO THE FLATBED OF THE TOW TRUCK, THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE HAD COME APART FROM THE WHEEL. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAD COMPLETED THE NECESSARY WORK TO PUT MY VEHICLE BACK TOGETHER AND INDICATED THAT IT WAS ALL TAKEN CARE OF UNDER THE RECALL THAT WAS IN THE SYSTEM. THE COURTESY INSPECTION INDICATED THAT THE "SUSPENSION/STEERING" WAS "CHECKED AND OK." ON 12/23/09, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE & COURTESY VEHICLE INSPECTION (MILEAGE = 158083), AND I INDICATED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL HAD BEGUN MAKING A WEIRD NOISE AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS IT WAS FAIRLY COMMON, ESPECIALLY IF THE HOUSING GOT WET INSIDE. THE COURTESY INSPECTION INDICATED THAT THE "SUSPENSION/STEERING" WAS "CHECKED AND OK." IT ENDED UP THAT THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE HAD TO BE REPLACED. AT FIRST I WAS TOLD THE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO "NORMAL WEAR & TEAR" AND "HIGH MILEAGE." TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SUDDENLY, THE ENGINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESTART AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER AND DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW REGULATORS WERE REPLACED TWICE. THE VIN WAS UNABLE TO BE ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 57,000.
NO WARNING JUST DRIVING VEHICLE AS USUAL AND ENGINE STALLED IN TRAFFIC, NOW I AM TOLD I NEED A NEW ENGINE AND AFTER RESEARCHING HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER INCIDENTS ON THE NET FOR SIMILAR FAILURES, OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED REGULARLY, ENGINE DOES HAVE A LITTLE OVER 100,000 MILES BUT THIS SHOULDN'T JUST HAPPEN, OTHERS HAVE INDICATED SOMETHING ABOUT THE VALVE SEAT SLIPPING CAUSING SUCH PROBLEMS I DON'T KNOW. *TR
ON FRIDAY JUNE 12TH, 2009, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2003 JEEP LIBERTY HOME. AFTER STOPPING FOR A STOP SIGN, SHE TURNED TO THE LEFT AND IMMEDIATELY THE UPPER FRONT BALL JOINT GAVE WAY.(IT WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED ON THE INSIDE) THE JEEP HAS 42087 MILES ON IT. FORTUNATELY MY WIFE WAS GOING VERY SLOW, OTHERWISE THERE IS NO TELLING HOW SEVERE AN ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED. CHRYSLER/JEEP SAID THAT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALLS ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, YET I FOUND A APRIL 15, 2009 POSTING ON THE INTERNET SAYING THAT THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS FOR THE UPPER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINTS (RECALL N. J17) ON MODELS SOLD IN THE "SALT BELT STATES". WE ARE IN PENNSYLVANIA. I'VE HAD THE PART REPLACED BUT WOULD CAUTION OTHER JEEP LIBERTY OWNERS ABOUT A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
