I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY (SAFETY RECALL F23) LATE LAST YEAR AND CALLED THE NEAREST DEALER IN FLEMINGTON IN DECEMBER 2006 TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A WAITING LIST AS THEY ONLY RECEIVED A FEW KITS PER WEEK AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THEY COULD SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME. IT IS NOW MAY 20TH AND STILL NO PHONE CALL. ALTHOUGH THE DEFECT FROM THE RECALL NOTICE SEEM SERIOUS, I SUPPOSE IT MUST NOT BE SINCE IT'S ALMOST 6 MONTHS LATER AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT CALLED. I WILL BE CALLING THE FLEMINGTON JEEP DEALER AGAIN THIS WEEK TO CHECK THE STATUS AND IF THEY CANNOT HELP, I WILL CALL ANOTHER DEALER TO SEE IF THIS IS SOMETHING THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ADDRESS. *TR
UPPER (NOT LOWER) BALL JOINT FAILURE ON '03 JEEP LIBERTY. VEHICLE HAS 44,000 MILES, DEALER SERVICED EVERY 3,000 MILES UNTIL LAST SERVICE OF 36,000 MILES. AWAITING PARTS (10/12 WEEKS ON EXISTING LOWER BALL JOINT RECALL). RIGHT UPPER BALL JOINT FAILED, SEPERATING FROM CONTROL ARM AT 60 MPH ON INTERSTATE 95 IN DELAWARE. VEHICLE SKID A FEW HUNDRED YARDS WITH THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL LAYING NEARLY FLAT ON THE ROAD SURFACE. NARROWLY MISSED COLLISION WITH CAR IN NEXT LANE BUT WAS ABLE TO GET TO RIGHT SHOULDER EVEN WITH REDUCED STEERING CONTROL.
TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY THAT IS INVOLVED IN A BALL JOINT RECALL. SHE HAS CONTACTED DEALERSHIP IN HER AREA AND THEY STATED THAT IT CAN TAKE UP TO 5 MONTHS IN ORDER FOR THEM TO SET UP SERVICE.
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAS RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE HER VEHICLE'S LOWER BALL JOINT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAS CONTACTED HER LOCAL DEALER BUT, THEY COULD NOT PUT HER ON A WAITING LIST BECAUSE IT IS TOO LONG, AND THEY ONLY GET THREE PARTS A WEEK.
TL*- ON 12/21/06 AT 7:30 AM THE CONTACT TOOK HER 2003 JEEP LIBERTY TO MILLER ARNELL CHRYSLER LOCATED 9850 INDIANAPOLIS INDIANA 46322. THE REPAIRS ON PERFORM RECALL 06V288000 WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE REPAIR WHILE MAKING EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS THE CONTACT FELT A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FLOOR BY THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR TWO WEEKS AND THOUGHT NOTHING OF THE NOISE, BUT IS SURE THAT IT BEGAN AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE DONE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON 1/13/07. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THERE IS A SEPARATION OF THE CONTROL ARM THAT LEAVES EXCESSIVE PLAY AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THESE REPAIRS WERE GOING TO COST $398.00 AND NOT COVERED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WANTS THE DEALER TO COVER THESE REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY WERE EITHER CAUSED BY THE DEFECT ON THE VEHICLE OR WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEEN WORKED ON. *NM UPDATED 02/22/07.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE HAS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS AND HE HAS BEEN TRYING TO GET THE RECALL REPAIR DONE SINCE DECEMBER OF 2006. IN DECEMBER OF 2006, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHILE TRAVELING 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN ON A WET ROAD. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT HAS REPORTS AND RECEIPTS OF THE WORK PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 45,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,080.
TL* - THE CONTACTRECEIVED HER A RECALL LETTER FOR HER 2003 JEEP LIBERTY LOWER BALL JOINTS IN OCTOBER 2006. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH THE TIRE CAME OFF AND ROLLED UNDER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALL HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO WHERE SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC FOR THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HER THAT HER AXLE WAS BROKEN, THAT THE BALL JOINTS HAD SEPARATED AND THE TIRE WAS DAMAGED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMEND THAT SHE TAKE VEHICLE TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP DUE TO HER RECALL. THE CONTACT CALL THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY CAME TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATES THAT THEY STILL HAVEN'T CONTACTED HER REGARDING THE ESTIMATE AND CAUSE PF THE TIRE FAILURE.
TL* - THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 03V460000 FOR 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS AN ODOMETER READING OF 82,000 MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD TAKE THREE MONTHS TO GET THE LOWER BALL JOINT PART. THE DEALER DID NOT TAKE THE CUSTOMER'S INFORMATION. THE CONTACT STATED HE HEARD A SCRAPING NOISE WHEN TURNING AT A SLOW SPEED. THE CONTACT STATED HE WAS UNAWARE IF IT HAPPENED MORE OFTEN WHEN HE WAS TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. *AK
I HAVE A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN DECEMBER 2006 F23 - LOWER BALL JOINTS. I PROMPTLY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP PER THE INSTRUCTIONS. THAT WAS AROUND DECEMBER 20TH 2006. I WAS PUT ON A LIST FOR THEM TO CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN. I CALLED AGAIN JAN 19TH 2007. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT GETTING THE PARTS VERY FAST AND THAT THEY WERE STILL WAITING FOR PARTS THEY ORDERED IN NOV 2006. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WILL STILL BE SEVERAL MONTHS. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE RECALL SAYS THE DEFECT CAN CAUSE A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. I DON'T MIND WAITING A FEW WEEKS - BUT A FEW MONTHS SEEMS EXCESSIVE. I DRIVE MY 3 KIDS AROUND IN THIS CAR!!! *NM

I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE ON DECEMBER 13, 2006 (NOTIFICATION CODE F23 - JEEP LIBERTY 2003). WHEN RECEIVED, I CALLED THE DEALER TO COORDINATE A VISIT TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A DELAY OF APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AND A HALF TO PROVIDE THE SERVICE SINCE CHRYSLER IS UNABLE TO SUPPLY THE DEMAND FOR THE RECALL'S PARTS RAPIDLY. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT HAS RECALL #1238. THE CONTACT WENT TO KELLEY JEEP AND HAS BEEN PLACED ON A WAITING LIST FOR OVER A MONTH. THE CONTACT ALSO CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHY THEIR WAS A WAIT AT THE DEALERSHIP.
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON JANUARY 2, 2007 DUE TO RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN ABOUT 4-8 WEEKS. SHE WAS ADVISED ON MARCH 14,2007 THAT THEREWAS A WAITING LIST TO HAVE VEHICLE REPAIRED ,AND IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 5-10 WEEKS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE WAS 59,000. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURES TO DATE.*AK
SOMETHING WAS PREVENTING MY SEAT BELT FROM BEING LATCHED. I LOOKED DOWN TO FIND SOMETHING THAT LOOKED LIKE A ROUND METAL BEAD STUCK INSIDE. I PRIED IT OUT WITH A PEN. I WAS THEN ABLE TO LATCH THE SEAT BELT. THEN ABOUT A WEEK LATER WHILE DRIVING MY SEAT BELT CAME UNLATCHED. I RELATCHED IT ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I WENT TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT I HAVE TO BUY AN ENTIRE NEW SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY. YOU CANNOT BUY JUST THE BUCKLE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS WEBSITE, I SEE THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION ON 2002 JEEP LIBERTY SEAT BELT BUCKLES. MY CAR IS 2003, HOWEVER, THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT 2002-2005 ARE THE SAME PART. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT IS CALLING REGARDING NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 06V288000. THE CONTACT HAS CALLED TWO DEALERSHIPS AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT IT WOULD TAKE 12 WEEKS IN ORDER FOR THEM TO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THEY ARE ONLY GETTING TWO TO THREE REPAIR KITS A WEEK.

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY THAT IS SUBJECT TO BALL JOINT RECALL (NOTIFICATION CODE F23. I HAVE CALLED GEORGETOWN JEEP OF WESTPORT, CT ON TWO OCCASIONS SINCE 12/06 AFTER RECEIVING NOTICE OF RECALL. THEY HAVE REFUSED TO GIVE ME AN APPOINTMENT TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT AFFECTS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I AM SENDING A COPY OF THIS COMPLAINT TO THE CT ATTORNEY GENERAL.

TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY AT 50 MPH SHE HIT A PATCH OF ICE. THE VEHICLE SLID ACROSS THE ICE AND INTO A DITCH AND STRUCK A UTILITY POLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON IMPACT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WHEN SHE TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY FOUND THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY AIR BAG SWITCH.
MAKING A LEFT TURN THE UPPER BALL JOINT SEPARATED STRANDING VEHICLE IN THE ROADWAY UNTIL TOW TRUCK ARRIVED, UPPER BALL JOINT WAS REPLACED WITH OEM PART BY A LOCAL DEALER ALONG WITH CONTROL ARM WHICH HAD BEEN DAMAGED. THE SAME BALL JOINT SHOWS SIGNS OF WEAR NOT ALLOWING PROPER FRONT END ALIGNMENT ALSO PA STATE CERTIFIED INSPECTION GARAGE STATED VEHICLE WOULDN'T PASS YEARLY INSPECTION AT GIVEN STATE AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. BALL JOINT WAS REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 17 MONTHS AGO WITH 17000 MILE ADDED TO VEHICLE. *TR

I CALLED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AS I RECEIVED A SAFETY NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 3 MONTHS BEFORE I COULD GET IN AND THE DEALERSHIP IS ONLY DOING 2-3 PER WEEK. I HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT IN THE PAST WITH A BROKEN BALL JOINT SO I AM VERY SENSITIVE WHEN IT COMES TO THIS. THREE MONTHS IS TOO LONG TO WAIT FOR A SAFETY RECALL, ESPECIALLY ONE THIS SERIOUS. *JB

THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED, WHO STATED THAT DUE TO A SHORTAGE OF PARTS, THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE.

THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL #06V288000 ON THE VEHICLE REGARDING THE SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT. THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE NOT AVAILABLE AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD TRIED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO SCHEDULE A DATE UNTIL THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, AND RECOMMENDED THE CONTACT TO CALL EVERY DAY TO CHECK FOR UPDATES ON THE PARTS. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT IT WAS A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE FOR A PERSON WHO HAD A DAILY JOB, TO CONTACT THE DEALER EVERYDAY FOR UPDATES.

JEEP I HAD MY JEEP SERVICED AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OD THE BALL JOINT RECALL. ONE OF THEM WAS ALL CORRODED AND ABOUT TO SNAP. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT THEY SAID THEY COULD PUT ME ON A LIST I WAS #48 AND THAT JEEP WAS SENDING THEM ONLY 3 PARTS A WEEK. IT WOULD BE A WHILE. UNSAFE TO DRIVE I HAD THE OTHER PLACE REPLACE IT THEY HAD NO PROBLEM GETTING THE PART FOR$215.00 I CAN DRIVE IT STILL WAITING FOR CALL ON OTHER SIDE. THIS SEEMS DUMB THAT THEY WILL ONLY DOE 3 A WEEK BECAUSE THEY ONLY GET SO MANY IN AT A TIME THEY SAID IF I JUST HIT A BUMP IT COULD CAUSE ME TO CRASH. JEEP SHOULD BE IN TROUBLE FOR THIS AND IF MY OTHER SIDE BREAKS I WILL SUE THEM HUGE IF I AM STILL ALIVE THAT IS. I WILL BE SENDING THE BILL IN. *NM
I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR LOWER BALL JOINTS ON MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. MY DEALERSHIP CAN'T SEEM TO GET THEM. I HAVE ORDERED THEM TWICE SINCE DECEMBER WHEN I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. APPARENTLY THEY ARE ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER. WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO GET THESE REPLACED. I HAVE A LOT OF CLUNKING IN THE FRONT. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS WET OUTSIDE. *JB

TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECEIVED RECALL 06V288000 IN NOVEMBER2006. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY 6 WEEKS FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINT PART TO COME IN, AND TO CALL BACK IN 6 WEEKS. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 42,000 MILES. THE CONTACT CALLED BACK THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER, AND WAS TOLD SHE WAS 137TH ON THE WAITING LIST, AND THAT THEY WERE ONLY GETTING THREE PARTS IN PER WEEK. THE CONTACT MAINTAINED THAT THE DEALER DID NOT PUT HER NAME ON THE WAITING LIST WHEN SHE CALLED IN NOVEMBER. THE CONTACT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT SHE DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEMS WERE BECAUSE SHE DID NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. *AK

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS' SEVERE CONDITION. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ALSO SUGGESTED THAT THEY HAD THE PART TO REPLACE THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS BUT COULD NOT COVER IT UNDER THE RECALL. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL # 06V288000 ON THE VEHICLE REGARDING THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT. THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE NOT AVAILABLE AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE THE CONTACT IF THE WORK WAS DONE BY ANYONE ELSE OTHER THAN A DEALER.
SAFETY RECORD F23-LOWER BALL JOINTS. I NOTIFIED THE LOCAL DEALER ON NOV 28, 2006 ABOUT THE LETTER. THEY TOLD ME IN A WEEK THEY RECEIVED WOULD THE PARTS. I'VE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ANY RESULTS. AT THIS DATE JANUARY 23 2007 MY JEEP HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. THE PROBLEM IS WATER MAY ENTER INTO THE LOWER BALL JOINTS ON MY JEEP THIS CAN CAUSE THE BALL JOINT TO CORRODE AND SEPARATE .BALL JOINT SEPARATION CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED ONLY ONE SET OF REPLACEMENT PARTS WAS AVAILABLE AND THE PARTS COULD NOT BE SAVED FOR THE CONTACT. THE DEALER OFFERED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, BUT WOULD CANCEL IT IF NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. WHEN THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, ANOTHER SERVICE DEALER WAS SUGGESTED AND THE BEST THAT THE SERVICE DEALER COULD DO, WAS ADD THE VEHICLE TO A WAIT LIST OF 45 TO 50 OTHER VEHICLES.
THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS OF MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. I DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS RECALL UNTIL I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ON DECEMBER 21,2006 YET ON NOV 25,2006 - I LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. IT CLEARLY STATES IN MY RECALL NOTICE THAT WATER MAY ENTER THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINTS ON MY JEEP AND CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE........THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I FEEL THAT DAIMLER CHRYSLER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR MY JEEP WHICH HAD TO BE TOTALLED OUT AND ALSO THE COSTS I ACCRUED FOR RENTAL VEHICLE AND OTHER SUCH EXPENSES.
