I OWN A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY THAT WAS PURCHASED IN FEBRUARY, 2003 AND CURRENTLY HAS 10,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS STALLED 9 TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR. THE STALLING OCCURS AT SPEEDS ANYWHERE FROM IDLE TO 65 MILES AN HOUR. IT HAS SERVICED BY TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS ON SIX DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. IT IS CURRENTLY NOT DRIVABLE AND IS SITTING AT A DEALERSHIP IN STAMFORD, CT. THE LAST INCIDENT TOOK PLACE WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MILES AN HOUR ON I-95. THE CAR BEGAN TO JERK AND EVENTUALLY STALLED LEAVING ME WITHOUT STEERING AND PUTTING MY FAMILY AT GREAT RISK. *JB
DT: THERE WAS A RECALL CONCERNING THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE LOWER BALL JOINTS . THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE UPPER BALL JOINTS. THE CONSUMER HEARD KNOCKING NOISES COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM STARTED BEFORE 4-30-04. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER PREVIOUSLY THEY TOLD THEM WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT HAD THE PROBLEM CORRECTED AS OF YET. *AK
REAR PASSENGER SIDE AND DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELTS WON'T RETRACT BACK INTO IT'S HOLSTER BECAUSE THE BELTS WERE UNRAVELING. DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE SEAT BELTS, BUT COULD NOT DECIDE WHY THIS WAS HAPPENING BECAUSE WHERE THE BELTS WERE UNRAVELING THEY WERE NOT COMING IN CONTACT WITH ANYTHING. DEALERSHIP MIGHT BE ABLE TO COVER THE BELT TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. IF THIS WAS NOT POSSIBLE THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REPLACED.*AK
WRANGLER ST 215 75R 16 TIRE FAILURE. NO NAILS OR OTHER HAZARD DAMAGE APPARENT. SIDEWALL SPILT FROM BEAD TO TREAD. HIGHWAY SPEED TO 30 MPH WHEN BLOWOUT OCCURRED. TIRE WAS OEM ON 2003 JEEP LIBERTY.*AK
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A 2 LANE COUNTRY ROAD, WITHIN SPEED LIMIT, ROAD CONDITIONS EXCELLENT. I HAVE A PRISTINE DRIVING RECORD. I ROUNDED A BEND AND WAS APPROACHING THE STRAIGHTAWAY AND ALTHOUGH I STEERED TO STRAIGHTEN THE VEHICLE, MY JEEP CONTINUED TO GO TO THE RIGHT. I TURNED THE WHEEL HARDER TO CORRECT THE DIRECTION AND THE JEEP VEERED TO THE LEFT INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR BACK TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT THE CAR HIT THE GULLY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO A TREE STUMP. ALTHOUGH I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE CAR FELT LIKE IT SKIDDED TO THE RIGHT AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKES DIDN'T ENGAGE. WHEN I CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I BROKE THE FRONT WHEEL AND DAMAGED THE REAR WHEEL, BROKE THE LOWER CONTROL ARM, DAMAGED THE SUSPENSION AND STEERING KNUCKLE, AND DID SOME BODY DAMAGE. WHEN I QUERIED THE DEALER ABOUT HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN, THEY SAID THEY KNEW OF NO DEFECTS ON THE 2003 LIBERTY. AFTER FINDING THE INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM/BALL JOINT RECALL, AND CALLING THE DEALER AGAIN WITH THIS INFO, THE DEALER SAID, OH YEAH, THEY KNEW ABOUT THAT, BUT "DON'T PAY MUCH ATTENTION TO RECALLS." I HAD THE CAR SERVICED BY MY DEALERSHIP ON 12/16/03, THE DAY AFTER THE RECALL NOTICES WERE SUPPOSEDLY SENT TO CUSTOMERS (I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED ONE AS OF 2/3/03), BUT THEY NEVER MENTIONED THE RECALL OR SCHEDULED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECTIVE PART. I AM AVAILABLE FOR CONTACT IF THERE ARE OTHERS OUT THERE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR FAILURES.*AK
WHILE TURNING DURING RAINY WEATHER THE CONSUMER WOULD TEMPORALLY LOSE STEERING CONTROL. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *NM *MR
VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT AT ALL TIMES ON ANY ROAD SURFACE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE (AUGUST 2003) WITH NO RESOLUTION. ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN CHECK EVERY TIME. DEALER CLAIMS TO HAVE ADJUSTED THE ALIGNMENT MORE TO THE LEFT IN ORDER TO COMPENSATE THE VEHICLE'S PULL TO THE RIGHT, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE DEALER RODE IN THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATED THAT OLDER MODEL JEEP LIBERTYS TEND TO DRIVE TO THE RIGHT, EVEN WHEN ALIGNED PROPERLY. (THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN JULY 2002). THIS VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE BECAUSE I MUST CONSTANTLY PULL THE STEERING TO THE LEFT IN ORDER TO STAY ON THE ROAD, AND I FEEL THAT I COULD LOSE CONTROL VERY EASILY.*AK
2003 JEEP LIBERTY 4 WHEEL DRIVE. AIR CONDITIONER SMELLS INSIDE OF VEHICLE OF MILDEW. HAD VEHICLE SERVICED 4 PREVIOUS OCCASIONS BY DEALER CENTRAL VALLEY. 5TH TIME HAD SERVICED DEALER TO REPLACE AIR CONDITION UNIT. ODOR WAS NOTICED A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. *LA
I HAVE A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED WITH 4 WHEEL ANTI-LOCK DISC BRAKES. THEY HAVE PERFORMED AS DESIGNED ON SNOW AND ICE UNTIL TODAY WHEN THEY DID LOCK UP AND WOULD NOT RELEASE. I WAS DRIVING ON A HILL WITH 4 WHEEL DRIVE ENGAGED, BRAKED AND THEY LOCKED. HARDER PRESSURE WOULD NOT GET THEM TO PULSATE AND RELEASE/LOCK/RELEASE AS DESIGNED. I SKIDDED THROUGH A STOP SIGN AND OFF THE ROAD AND ONLY REGAINED CONTROL BY ACCELERATING OUT OF THE SKID. NO DAMAGE OR INJURY. *LA
WHILE DRIVING ON SNOW AND ICE AT 15 MPH CONSUMER CAME TO AN INTERSECTION AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, BRAKES LOCKED UP, SENDING THE VEHICLE THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND INTO A FIELD. ALSO, BRAKES LOCKED UP ON ANOTHER OCCASION, SENDING THE VEHICLE THROUGH ANOTHER INTERSECTION. *AK
BALL JOINT FAILURE THREE TIMES. EMERGENCY BRAKE ON FIVE SPEED NEVER HAS WORKED PROPERLY. REPLACE ENGINE AT 70,000. NOW THE CARD END JOINT FOR THE FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT IS THE BALL JOINT FAILURE FOR THE THIRD TIME. THIS ISSUE ALSO CAUSES CHAIN REACTIONS IN THE TIRES I HAVE HAD THREE SETS OF TIRES WEAR UNEVEN AND I WROTE THE COMPANY THE FIRST TIME TO COMPLAIN AND GOT NO RESPONSE. I USE MY JEEP TO MAKE MY INCOME AND DO NOT TRUST IT ANY MORE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE TO ANY ONE AND WILL NOT PASS IT ON TO ANY FAMILY MEMBER. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. SHE SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AND HER LEFT ARM WAS DISLOCATED. SHE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL BY AN AMBULANCE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE FAILING. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 10,000.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING AREA GAS PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOOR. VEHICLE ACCELERATED, AND THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL, AND STRUCK A TREE. AFTER STRIKING THE TREE VEHICLE STRUCK AN ABUTMENT HEAD ON AND FLIPPED COMPLETELY OVER. CONSUMER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE POLICE DID RESPOND TO THE ACCIDENT. *AK THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. *NM
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. SINCE PURCHASING VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 3, 2003 HAD VEHICLE FOR SERVICE FIVE TIMES. DEALER INDICATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *AK
I HAVE A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. I AM HAVING A BALL JOINT PROBLEM WITH MY JEEP BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER SIMILAR TO THE DODGE. I PURCHASED MY JEEP (NEW) IN JANUARY OF 2003.I BEGAN HEARING A "SCRUBBING" NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE IN APPROX APRIL 2003. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER NEAR MAXWELL AFB, ALABAMA; THEY STATED THAT BECAUSE OF RECENT RAIN SOMETHING MAY HAVE BEEN WET/ MOIST. I CONTINUED WITH MY TRIP BACK TO DC. I DIDN'T REALLY NOTICE THE NOISE ANYMORE. APPROX MIDDLE OCTOBER I HAD A FLAT TIRE (FRONT PASSENGER). IT WAS REPLACED BY AAA CONTRACTOR & FIXED BY A TIRE DEALER. WHEN I INQUIRED WHAT WENT WRONG, THEY DIDN'T/COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. ON OCTOBER 31, 2003 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO BE SERVICED AT A ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA JEEP DEALER FOR A 22,000 MILE SERVICE (PREVENTATIVE CARE). SO I DISHED OUT APPROX 270.00 FOR THIS SERVICE. TWO DAYS LATER I NOTICED A "SCRUBBING" NOISE AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WAS LOUDER AND WAS HORRIBLE! I VISITED THE VA JEEP DEALER FURIOUS THAT THEY JUST SERVICED MY TRUCK & I STARTED HEARING THE NOISE. I WAS TOLD THAT MY FRONT BALL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, IT JUST WAS A BAD PART AND IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I RECEIVED A CALL THE NEXT DAY THAT THE PART WAS IN BUT WASN'T ABLE TO BRING IT IN UNTIL TWO APPROX WEEKS LATER. THE SERVICE TECH ASSURED MY THE TRUCK WAS SAFE TO DRIVE BUT TRY TO GET THE PART REPLACED SOON. I BEGAN TO NOTICE THE TRUCK PULLING TO THE RIGHT & STEERING WHEEL VIOLENTLY SHAKING. THE DEALER DON'T PROVIDE LOANER CARS AND I WORK ON MILITARY BASE, I STILL COULDN'T GET TO WORK. AT THIS POINT I BLAMED THE DEALER FOR MY INCONVENIENCE. THEY PUT THE PART ON DECEMBER 10. THEY TOLD MY THAT IT WAS RECALLED SINCE THE LAST TIME I HAD BEEN IN. THE NOISE HAD STOPPED BUT NOT THE SHAKING OF THE WHEEL AND THE PULLING TO THE RIGHT. I RETURNED MY CAR TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT (DECEMBER 16). THEY PERFORMED A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. TODAY IS DECEMBER 19 AND MY TRUCK IS STILL SHAKING AND PULLING TO THE RIGHT. I AM AVAILABLE FOR CONTACT IF NECESSARY.*AK
I ONLY STOPPED TO REALIZE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WHEN I SAW THAT THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION GOING. WE LOST CONTROL OF OUR 2003 JEEP LIBERTY IN THE WINTER OF 2003. WE DID NOT REPORT IT AS IT WAS A HILL THAT HAD ICE. WE HAD THE CAR IN 4WD LOW AND NEVER WENT BEYOND 2 MILES AN HOUR. THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLIDE AND SLIDE AND THERE WAS NO CONTROL OVER IT AND WE ENDED UP HITTING THE MOUNTAIN, THE BETTER OF THE 2 SCENARIOS THE OTHER GOING OFF A CLIFF. EVERY HILL I DRIVE I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM MOSTLY WHEN THERE IS SNOW ON THE GROUND (EVEN FRESH NON-ICE) SNOW IF THERE IS ANY DEGREE OF ANGLE TO THE HILL, I CAN NOT DRIVE IT. I HAVE SLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES ON ANGLED DIRT ROADS BUT NOT TO THE DEGREE THAT I CONTINUE TO HAVE WITH SNOW COVERED HILLS....AFTER READING THE REPORT I REALIZED THAT THIS COULD BE CAUSED TO THE RECALL AND ISSUES THAT ARE TAKING PLACE...I AM NOT CERTAIN, BUT AM GIVING THIS INFORMATION SHOULD IT HELP IN ANY WAY....THANKS! *JB

'RECALL CAMPAIGN' ISSUED FOR 2003 JEEP LIBERTY LOWER BALL JOINTS. *BF WHILE DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER THE CONSUMER'S DUAGHTER LOST CONTROL OF HER VEHICLE AND IT FLIPPED FRONT TO BACK LANDING UPRIGHT. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE BALL JOINT DEFECT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. NO INJURIES WERE MENTIONED. *NM
2003 JEEP LIBERTY LTD. CAR VIBRATED AT SPEEDS OF 55MPH AND ABOVE. FOX DEALER, AUBURN NY WAS GREAT, DAIMLER-CHRYSLER WAS NOT. CHANGED ALL 4 TIRES AND 3 WHEELS WHICH DIDN'T FIX. CHRYSLER CLOSED CASE "WITHIN MFG SPECS...". DEALER CONTINUED TO TRY TO FIX AT THEIR EXPENSE. BALANCED BOTH DRIVESHAFTS WHICH WERE OUT OF BALANCE. STILL VIBRATED. MOVED ALIGNMENT OF SPLINE/DIFFERENTIAL. DIDN'T FIX. FINALLY, DAIMLER-CHRYSLER REGIONAL SVC MGR OFFERED A SWAP FOR A NEW CAR, BUT WITH ME PAYING MILEAGE OVER 8K. NY LEMON LAW ALLOWS 12K WITHOUT MILEAGE FEE. I INITIATED LEMON LAW PROCEEDURE. THE DAY BEFORE ARBITRATION DAIMLER-CHRYSLER LEGAL REPS OFFERED SAME TERMS I'D HAVE WON IN ARBITRATION. GOT RID OF LIBERTY AT 11900 MILES. LEASED A GRAND CHEROKEE. THE VERDICT IS STILL UNDER CONSIDERATION ON THIS CAR.*AK
JEEP LIBERTY FAILED TO STOP, BRAKES LOCKED UP AND CAUSED SKID INTO REAREND OF ANOTHER VEHICLE.*AK
I OWN A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL FROM JEEP AND EVEN CONTACTED THEM SINCE I WAS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED. THE PROBLEM I AM EXPERIENCING IS THAT WHEN I BRAKE I FEEL MOVEMENT IN THE FRONT END. BEFORE THE RECALL I BROUGHT IT IN AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NO REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM WHICH THE SERVICE AREA CALLED A BUMP STOP. WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN THEY SAID THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS ON MY JEEP EVEN THOUGH I RECEIVED THE NOTICE, AND WAS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS. I FEEL UNSAFE KNOWING THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAS NO RECORD OF THE RECALL AND THAT I DRIVING A CAR WITH A POTENTIAL FOR DISASTER. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE? WHILE MAKING U-TURN AT AN INTERSECTION FRONT BALL JOINTS SNAPPED, SEPARATING FROM THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS REPAIRING THE PROBLEM.*AK PHONE INTERVIEW UPDATE (OCT 5, 05): THE CONSUMER SAID THAT HE HAD RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE TWO MONTHS AFTER HE FILED THE COMPLAINT.
BOTH REAR SEAT BELTS WERE SHREDDING AFTER VERY LITTLE USE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. IT APPEARS THE PLASTIC HOUSING OF THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR IS TOO SHARP AND THE BELT RUBS AGAINST IT WHEN USED CAUSING DAMAGE. *NM
THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPAIRED, FRONT AXLE REPLACED DUE TO VIBRATIONS, 5 NEW TIRES, RADIO, ETC... THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES FOR REPAIRS TO THE POINT WHERE THE DISTRICT MANAGER FOR CHRYSLER HAS BEEN INVOLVED. THE VEHICLE RAN A LITTLE BETTER FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME AND THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO SHIFT INCORRECTLY THE VIBRATION IS BACK AND THE DISTRICT MANAGER (MR. BILL KEUHRMAN STATES "THAT THERE IS IMPROVEMENT", AND I STATED THAT IT IS FUNNY THE WORDS HE CHOSE INSTEAD OF THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING CORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE SCARES ME TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF THE HESITATION DURING SHIFTING. *NM
LOSS OF CONTROL OF 2003 JEEP LIBERTY RESULTING IN ACCIDENT AND PERSONAL INJURY. DRIVING CAR ON PARKWAY. GENTLY STEPPED ON BRAKES, CAR PULLED SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT. TOOK FOOT OFF BRAKE AND REAPPLIED, CAR PULLED SHARPLY OUT OF CONTROL AND TO THE LEFT INTO CENTER HIGHWAY DIVIDE. COULD NOT PULL CAR OFF CENTER DIVIDE AS CAR SKIDDED TO A STOP. NO OTHER CARS INVOLVED. DAMAGE TO CAR AND INJURIES REPORTED TO POLICE. CONTACTED JEEP, THEY ARE SENDING AN INVESTIGATOR OVER. HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING SINCE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH VEHICLE LOST CONTROL WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD INTO A GUARD RAIL. AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON ANY SURFACE, MY 4WD MANUAL TRANSMISSION 2003 JEEP LIBERTY PULLS STRONGLY TO THE RIGHT. IT EASILY GOES OFF THE EDGE OF THE ROAD, CREATING THE NEED FOR AN OFF ROAD RECOVERY. DEALER ROTATED THE TIRES, BUT SAID THAT THE WHEELS WERE ALIGNED PROPERLY AFTER AN ACCIDENT, AN ALL WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS COMPLETED BUT IT STILL PULLS SEVERELY TO THE RIGHT. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE IN THE RAIN OR ON A WET SURFACE, THE TIRES SKID AND DO NOT PROPERLY SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN, SO TRYING TO MANIPULATE THE VEHICLE TO NOT SKID OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO THE DITCH IS DIFFICULT WITHOUT BEING IN AT LEAST PARTIAL 4WD--AND THAT DOESN'T EVEN HELP OCCASIONALLY. *AK
REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR DAMAGES TO VEHICLE. *MR THE CONSUMER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT DURING A DOWN POUR. THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND IT FLIPPED OVER. THE PROBLEM MAY BE DUE TO THE BALL JOINTS. RECALL# 03V460000. *SC *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE SMELLED LIKE GASOLINE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO A DEALER APPROXIMATELY THREE TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A SYSTEM LEAK AND THEY REPLACED THE PUMP SEAL AND LOCK. THE LEFT FRONT BALL JOINT FELL TO THE GROUND WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING. *AK THE LEFT BALL JOINT BROKE ALLOWING THE SUSPENSION ARM TO COLLAPSE IN WHEEL. * CB *JB

THE TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING AND THE CAR HAS ONLY 4,000 MILES ON IT. ALSO, THE REAR WHEELS ARE MAKING A LOUD SQUEAL WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME OF THE DAY. DEALER SAID WHEEL NOISE IS DUE TO A NEEDED REBUILD OF DISC BRAKES AND THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I AM ON A WAITING LIST TO GET MY BRAKES FIXED. WHEN CHANGING A FRONT TIRE ON MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED, I DISCOVERED THAT THE JACK DOES NOT COMPLETELY SEAT INTO THE NOTCH ON THE BODY WELD SEAM. THE EDGES OF THE NOTCH ARE SLOPED. THE WIDTH OF THE JACK ALLOWS IT TO ONLY GO ABOUT HALF WAY INTO THE NOTCH. *AK AFTER JACKING UP MY LIBERTY AND BEGINNING TO CHANGE THE TIRE, THE JACK SLIPPED. NO DAMAGE OR INJURY RESULTED, BUT THIS COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS. THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER'S SOLUTION WAS TO GRIND OUT THE NOTCH. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS PROBLEM IS LIMITED TO MY LIBERTY OR IF THE DEALER REPORTED THIS TO JEEP.
DISCOVERED THAT LUGS ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS NOT ON PROPERLY. IT WAS NOT ON ALL THE WAY. *AK
TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING,BRAKES SQUEAL WHEN YOU ARE BACKING UP. THEY SAY IT IS FROM DEW. IT'S IN THE GARAGE AT NIGHT. THE STEERING IS MY MAIN CONCERN.IT PULLS SO HARD TO THE RIGHT. IT'S AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.
INTERMITTENT FAILURE TO START LEADING TO COMPLETE FAILURE SO THE 2003 JEEP LIBERTY HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. AFTER OVER $500 DOLLARS WORTH OF WORK TO REPLACE THE MAIN COMPUTER MODULE THE JEEP STARTED FOR ONLY 10 DAYS, THEN THE INTERMITTENT TROUBLE RETURNED, THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY, THE JEEP HAD NO PROBLEMS NOW ITS DEAD, THEY HAVE REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH, NOW THE TUMBLER AND NEW KEYS, THE TOTAL IS AT $300+ AND STILL HAVE A DEAD JEEP. THERE ARE 100S OF COMPLAINTS JUST LIKE THIS ONE ON THE WEB INDICATING SOMETHING IS DEFECTIVE!! PLEASE HELP! *TR
2 CAR ACCIDENTS WHERE ANOTHER CAR HYDRO-PLANED INTO FRONT DRIVER SIDE CORNER OF MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE THEN WAS FORCED OFF THE ROAD AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE AND WE WENT OFF THE ROAD DOWN A SLOPE ABOUT 20-30 FEET UNTIL WE HIT AN EMBANKMENT. MY SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD ME AND I HIT THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. I SUFFERED A CONCUSSION WITH 1/2 HOUR OF MEMORY LOSS AND A WOUND TO MY HEAD THAT REQUIRED STAPLES TO CLOSE. WHILE EXITING RED LIGHT THE CONSUMER VEHICLE OIL LIGHT CAME ON, THEN ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON. POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND ALL CONTROLS. ALL POWER OFF. CAR WOULD START BRIEFLY AND CUT OFF. CAR WAS TOTALED. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK *CB

CONTACTED CHRYSLER ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE AND VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. DT: CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL CONCERNING LOWER BALL JOINTS IN THE FRONT. HAD REPAIRS DONE AT 12,000 MILES , AND CURRENTLY VEHICLE HAS 24,000 AND THE BALL JOINTS WERE DEFECTIVE AGAIN. DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE LOWER BALL JOINTS UNDER ANY KIND OF WARRANTY OR RECALL. IN THE STATE PENNSYLVANIA ONE HAS TO HAVE THE ANNUAL SAFETY TEST DONE ONCE A YEAR FOR THE STICKER TO BE PUT ON VEHICLE. STREERING WHEEL VIBRATION AT SPEEDS 58-70MPH. *AK
BOUGHT THE 2003 JEEP LIBERTY BRAND NEW IN MAY, 2003. NOW A YEAR AND SEVEN MONTHS LATER, WE STILL HAVE SQUEALING BRAKES. THE DEALER IN WICHITA HAS REPLACED THE PADS 2 OR 3 TIMES, AND RE-SURFACED THE PADS ONCE OR TWICE. THEY'VE NOW DECIDED THAT THEY WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE BACK BRAKES, INCLUDING THE ROTERS. THESE PARTS HAVE BEEN ORDERED, AND WE ARE WAITING TO HAVE THIS WORK DONE. ADDITIONALLY, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STARTED DOWNSHIFTING HARD FROM 3RD GEAR TO SECOND GEAR, AND DOWN TO FIRST GEAR. THEY REPLACED SOME PARTS IN THE TRANSMISSION, AND THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE FIXED. WE'LL SEE! THEY BLAMED THE RUSTING BRAKES TO "HUMIDITY"...THE CAR NOW HAS ONLY 7,200 MILES ON IT, AND HAS BEEN KEPT INSIDE THE GARAGE EVERY NIGHT OF IT'S EXISTENCE. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT ALL THE SQUEALING AND RUSTING OF THE BRAKES ARE DUE TO THE "HUMIDITY" IN THE AIR. WE LIVE IN THE EXACT MIDDLE OF THE US IN KANSAS. THERE'S NOT A LOT OF MOISTURE IN THE AIR INSIDE OF MY ATTACHED GARAGE. THIS BRAKE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FROM MID 2003 TO THE PRESENT TIME IN DECEMBER OF 2004. THE CAR ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 7000 MILES ON IT...THE DEALER SAID THAT "THE PROBLEMS MIGHT GO DOWN IF WE WOULD DRIVE THE CAR MORE OFTEN." WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A JEEP LIBERTY TO ANYONE WE LIKE.*AK
THE 2003 JEEP LIBERTY WAS BUILT WITH A DANGER TO FUEL TANK. IT IS 6-14-2014 AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT FIXED THIS. I HAVE THREE GRAND KIDS THAT RIDE WITH ME. WHEN WILL THEY FIX THIS? I'M TOLD THEY ARE WORKING ON IT. WHAT DO I DO IF MY GRAND CHILDREN ARE HURT FROM THIS? *JS
