TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH REAR WINDOW REGULATORS FAILED TO OPERATE AT DIFFERENT TIMES, WHICH CAUSED THE GLASS TO UNEXPECTEDLY RELEASE DOWN INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL. THE FAILURES OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING OVER A RAILROAD TRACK AND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. THE VEHICLE WAS FIRST TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO PERFORM A REPAIR AT THAT SPECIFIC TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE THEY REPLACED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED AND THE WINDOW WAS TEMPORARILY SECURED IN A CLOSED POSITION WITH TAPE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,630.
I GOT INTO THE CAR, STARTED IT, AND THE BACK LEFT PASSENGER WINDOW DROPPED. I BOUGHT PART NUMBER 68059647-AA REGULATOR 2303900 FOR $167.00 ON 7/2/2010.TO REPAIR THE WINDOW. 2/20/2012 I HAD TO REPLACE THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR AS IT DROPPED THE WINDOW AND WOULD NOT FUNCTION. I BOUGHT PART NUMBER 68059645-AB REGULATOR 23039005 FOR $182.00. SINCE THEN THE PASSENGERS' SIDE WINDOWS HAVE ALSO FAILED. ON 9/28/2012, THE BACK LEFT WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED AGAIN. I MIGHT ACCEPT 1 WINDOW REGULATOR FAILING BUT NOT 4 OR 5, IF YOU COUNT A SECOND FAILURE. WHAT GETS ME IS THE FACT THAT THE BACK WINDOWS DO NOT GET A GREAT DEAL OF USE. I BELIEVE THEY'VE BEEN USED MAYBE 10 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2004. FOR A SECOND FAILURE, WHEN THE PART HAS NOT HAD BUT 2 USES (TO CHECK THAT THE WINDOW WAS OPERATIONAL), IS RIDICULOUS. *TR
HEADLIGHTS GO OFF INTERMITTENTLY, FOR 1 - 2 SECONDS. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN REPEATEDLY ON CERTAIN HIGHWAYS, WHILE DRIVING PAST THE SAME LOCATION. THE HEADLIGHT RELAY CAN BE HEARD TO CLICK OFF AND ON WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE DEALER CHECKED THE CAR FOR THIS PROBLEM 2 YEARS AGO BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT OR FIND ANY FAULT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. *TR
11 MONTHS AGO MY DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE AND I HAD TO HAVE IT FIXED. THEY SAID IT HAPPENS BECAUSE OF THE HEAT. FINE, I FORKED OUT A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS AND A FEW HOURS OF MY TIME. THEN YESTERDAY I GOT INTO MY CAR AND SURE ENOUGH THE WINDOW WAS DOWN, WHEN I TRIED TO ROLL IT UP AND NOTHING HAPPENED I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SET ME UP WITH AN APPOINTMENT FOR THIS MORNING. THEY SAID IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT, RATHER THEY ARE MAKING MORE MONEY OFF OF THE CUSTOMERS IN THE REPAIRS. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ONLINE, AND NOW THIS IS THE THIRD REGULATOR MY CAR HAS HAD, WITH NO GUARANTEE I WON'T BE BACK AGAIN NEXT YEAR FOR ANOTHER. *TR
OWNER OF A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. LEAVING PARKING LOT AT SLOW SPEED HEAR CRACK , STOP FOUND LEFT REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM BROKEN. IF CAR WAS DRIVEN AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED CRASH MAY HAVE OCCURRED AND PEOPLE INJURED. AFTER CLOSER INSPECTION FOUND THAT CONTROL ARM HAS RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING ARM TO BRAKE. THE CONTROL ARM WAS REPLACED AND THE RIGHT SIDE INSPECTED AND FOUND IN VERY RUSTED CONDITION, IT WAS ALSO REPLACED AND BOTH OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. *TR UPDATED IVOQ 02/01/11
I BOUGHT A 04 JEEP LIBERTY FOR MY SON. THE DRIVER'S WINDOW WENT OUT IMMEDIATELY AFTER BUYING IT. RESEARCH SHOWED THOUSANDS OF OCCURRENCES OF THIS HAPPENING TO PEOPLE EVERYWHERE. THE NYLON SUPPORT BRACKET IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO PERFORM ITS DESIGNED FUNCTION AND BREAKS OVER AND OVER AGAIN WITH NO RECALL FROM CHRYSLER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FOR THAT REASON CHRYSLER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. CHRYSLER SEEMS TO BE JUST GETTING RICH OFF OF FIXING THEIR BADLY ENGINEERED WINDOW REGULATOR AT THE CONSUMERS EXPENSE. I AM SURE GLAD THE GOVERNMENT GAVE THEM BAIL OUT MONEY BUT WHEN WILL THEY ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR POOR DESIGN AND RECALL THIS WINDOW REGULATOR BRACKET. IN MY CASE, ONLY THE NYLON SUPPORT BRACKET THAT SUPPORTS THE WINDOW TO MOVE UP/DOWN THE TRACK IS BROKEN. THIS IS A SHAMEFUL WAY FOR A CAR MAKER TO HANDLE A PROBLEM THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW. SOME AGENCY NEEDS TO FORCE CHRYSLER TO OWN UP TO THIS AND HELP THE CONSUMER GET WHAT HE PAID FOR - A VEHICLE WITH POWER WINDOWS THAT WORK AS DESIGNED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,472. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND BOTH REAR DOORS WERE UNLOCKED. THE SWITCH WAS STUCK IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION AND COULD NOT BE LOCKED BY REMOTE OR MANUALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS A RELATED RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER AND AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WERE NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V111000, LATCHES, LOCKS, LINKAGES, DOORS LATCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 34,262.
2004 JEEP LIBERTY-CAN NOT REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION-APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS-DEALER WANTS $500.00 TO REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH AND SHIFTER INTERLOCK-I DO NOT KNOW HOW MANY JEEP OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM, BUT IF YOU SEARCH ON LINE, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS A FACTORY DEFECTIVE SYSTEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND MFG SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING . *TR
MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY HAS HAD THE SAME BROKEN WINDOW THREE SEPARATE TIMES. THE REGULATOR INSIDE THE WINDOW MOTOR IS POORLY DESIGNED AND SNAPS. I HAVE JUST READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS AND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE SAID THEY FILED A COMPLAINT AS WELL. THE WINDOW BASICALLY FALLS DOWN, AND IT COULD HAVE EASILY SHATTERED ALL OVER MY THREE YEAR OLD WHO WAS SITTING BESIDE THIS WINDOW. NOW IT IS 100+ DEGREES HERE AND I HAVE TO TRY TO UNSAFELY RIG THIS WINDOW SO IT DOESN'T FALL AND BREAK. CHRYSLER WILL GIVE AN ESTIMATE OF OVER $500 TO FIX THIS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME. JEEP LIBERTY WINDOW REGULATOR BREAKS ALLOWING WINDOW TO FALL DOWN INTO DOOR AND REMAIN INOPERATIVE UNTIL FIXED. WE OWN A 2004 LIBERTY AND HAVE NOW HAD 12 REGULATORS REPAIRED/REPLACED OVER 6 YEARS BECAUSE OF SOME EXECUTIVE DECISION TO CUT COST WITH A PLASTIC PART VS STEEL. BEEN CAUGHT IN MONSOON WITH BROKEN WINDOW, 100+ DEGREE TEMPERATURES WITH BROKEN WINDOW. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME/MILEAGE, MOVING OR STATIONARY, USING OR NOT USING WINDOWS. *TR
ALL LIGHTS, (INCLUDING HEADLAMPS), INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES ALREADY, ALL AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING 65-70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS AROUND JULY, 2009. THE LAST OCCURRENCE WAS LAST NIGHT, JUNE 7, 2010. NOTHING BUT PITCH BLACKNESS WHEN THEY WENT OFF. HAD TO TRY TO STEER CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD. IF YOU TURN THE HEADLAMP ON/OFF A FEW TIMES OR JIGGLE THE CONTROL IT WILL TURN ON/OFF AND THEN STAY ON. THIS IS PRETTY DANGEROUS. THIS IS MY DAUGHTER'S CAR AND I WILL NOT LET HER DRIVE IT ANYMORE AS A RESULT. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY THAT I HAVE OWNED SINCE 8/21/07. ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY TAILGATE NOT OPENING, BUT THE GLASS DOES WILL OPEN. IT REMAINS LOCKED, BUT I HEAR THE ACTUATOR WORKING AND I KNOW THE RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN COMPLETED IN 12/2006. *TR

HEADLIGHTS SPONTANEOUSLY SWITCH OFF THEN BACK ON, SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES IN SUCCESSION. THIS OCCURS NEARLY EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED WITH LIGHTS ON. INDIVIDUAL EPISODES LAST ANYWHERE FROM 1-5 SEC, OCCUR MULTIPLE TIMES DURING ONE DRIVE INTERVAL. SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK FOR "BLIND" DRIVING (NO HEADLIGHTS) AND INCORRECT INTERPRETATION OF SIGNALS TO OTHER DRIVERS.
I HAVE A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY THAT I HAVE HAD FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS. WITHIN THE LAST YEAR I HAVE NOW HAD TWO OF THE WINDOWS SUDDENLY STOP WORKING WITH NO WARNING. THE FIRST ONE WAS THE DRIVER'S SIDE BACKSEAT WINDOW. LAST YEAR I WAS PUTTING IT DOWN DUE TO THE HEAT. WHEN I WENT TO PUT IT UP, I COULD HEAR THE MOTOR TRYING TO WORK BUT TO NO AVAIL. AFTER CHECKING IT OUT, I COULD ACTUALLY SEE A LONG, METAL CORD OR CABLE STICKING OUT OF THE SMALL HOLE IN THE DOOR. AT THE TIME I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WOULD BE ABOUT $500 TO FIX! UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR ME SO I HAVE BEEN USING DOORSTOPS TO KEEP THE WINDOW UP. TODAY, I HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW. THIS TIME THE WINDOW WOULD NOT GO BACK UP. I JUST SPENT THE LAST HOUR DISSECTING THE DOOR AND PRYING THE WINDOW BACK UP. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE, THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY BIG PROBLEM FOR THIS CAR. I DO FEEL SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE BY CHRYSLER. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY AND ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS HAVE HAD THE DRIVER'S FRONT AND REAR WINDOWS FALL INTO THE DOOR UNEXPECTEDLY DUE TO A FAILED WINDOW REGULATOR. ON TWO OF THESE OCCASIONS THE WINDOW FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. ON ALL FOUR OCCASIONS, THE DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME $325 TO FIX THE WINDOW EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMITTED THAT IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY PART BECAUSE I WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE REAR DRIVER WINDOW HAS FAILED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, EACH TIME, WITHIN LESS THAN A YEAR OF HAVING THE REGULATOR REPLACED AT A JEEP AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY JEEP DEALERSHIP HAS ADMITTED TO ME THAT IT IS A FAULTY PART AND THAT THE RIGHT THING WOULD BE IF CHRYSLER WERE TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE PARTS. *TR

THE HEADLIGHTS WILL CUT OFF RANDOMLY WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. IT HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS. THERE IS A "CLICKING" SOUND WHEN THEY CUT OFF AND THEN BACK ON. WINDOW IN MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY WILL SUDDENLY DROP DOWN AND WILL NOT GO BACK UP EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE POWER. I THEN HAVE TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. I HAVE HAD 3 OF THE 4 WINDOWS REPLACED AND AM NOW WORKING ON THE LAST. THIS TIME, MY DOG WAS IN THE BACK. HAD MY MOTHER NOT BEEN IN THE BACK SEAT HE WOULD OF JUMPED THROUGH NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS GOING ON. THERE I AM DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND MY WINDOW SLIPS DOWN. 04 JEEP LIBERTY: LEFT SIDE DRIVER & REAR PASSENGER WINDOWS FELL DOWN INTO THE DOORS. UNABLE TO FIX IT WITHOUT SPENDING APPROX. $300 PER DOOR. THE WINDOWS ARE NOW HELD UP BY SCOTCH TAPE. *TR
I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE WAITING TO EXIT A PARKING LOT TO ENTER TRAFFIC, WHEN THE JEEP STARTED TO ACCELERATE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS HOLDING THE BRAKE DOWN AND I COULD HEAR A GRINDING NOISE AS THE CAR CONTINUED TO ADVANCE INTO TRAFFIC. I TOOK MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND PUT ON THE ACCELERATOR TO NARROWLY MISS BEING HIT BROADSIDE BY A PICKUP TRUCK. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT SHE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING, BUT I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLES' STORIES ONLINE OF THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY WITH 46,253 MILES HAS BLOWN A HEAD GASKET FOR NO REASON. THE AUTO SHOP STATED THAT THE JEEP LIBERTY ARE ALL BLOWING HEAD GASKETS FOR NO REASON. I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT WHEN I GOT AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY TOLD ME I HAVE ANTI FREEZE IN MY OIL. I SAID WHAT DOES THAT MEAN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET AND THAT IS HOW ANTI FREEZE IS GETTING INTO THE OIL. THE AUTO SHOP THAT FIXED IT CHARGED ME $1,395.34 TO FIX IT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT JEEP LIBERTY'S HAVE BEEN BLOWING HEAD GASKETS. HE ALREADY FIXED A LOT OF JEEP LIBERTY'S HEAD GASKETS. I ASKED HIM WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED IF I DIDN'T GET AN OIL CHANGE AND KEPT DRIVING WITH THE ANTI FREEZE IN THE OIL. HE TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE BLOWN THE ENGINE. HE ALSO STATED THAT JEEP IS LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM AND FOR ME TO KEEP THE RECEIPT IN CASE THEY DO HAVE A RECALL ON THERE HEAD GASKETS. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT JEEP LIBERTY'S HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW REGULATOR BECAME INOPERABLE. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH REGULATOR UNITS, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. SINCE THE REPAIR, THE SECOND REAR WINDOW BECAME INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND MADE AN ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 84,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE RECENTLY DRIVING MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY, MY 10-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE BACKSEAT BEGAN TO LOWER THE REAR WINDOW USING THE POWER WINDOW BUTTON. AT A CERTAIN POINT, I HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. UPON STOPPING, I NOTED THAT THE WINDOW HAD FAILED IN THE LOWERED POSITION AND WOULD NOT MOVE WITH FURTHER MANIPULATION OF THE POWER WINDOW BUTTON. HOWEVER, I ALSO NOTED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AND WAS JAMMED SHUT. I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE HOME AND REMOVING THE DOOR PANEL, I NOTED THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR ' A PLASTIC PIECE ' HAD FAILED. AT THIS POINT, I WAS STILL UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. I THEN REMOVED THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR AND ACCOMPANYING ASSEMBLY. WITH THIS ACTION, I NOTED THAT THE SCREW CABLE, IN ABSENCE OF THE PLASTIC REGULATOR PIECE, HAD RUN ITS ENTIRE LENGTH UP INTO THE REAR PORTION OF THE DOOR BEHIND THE LOCKING MECHANISM. WITH THE SCREW CABLE LODGED BEHIND THE LOCKING MECHANISM, THE DOOR WAS JAMMED AND WOULD NOT OPEN WITH ANY NORMAL FORCE. A SIMPLE SEARCH ON THE INTERNET RESULTS IN NUMEROUS DISCUSSIONS OF PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDOW REGULATOR FAILING DUE TO THE PLASTIC DESIGN. IT IS IN MY OPINION THAT SUCH A FAILURE IS HAZARDOUS AS IT MAY RENDER THE OCCUPANT UNABLE TO EGRESS THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY. ALTHOUGH THE PROBABILITY OF A CRASH COUPLED WITH A REGULATOR FAILURE IS LOW, A SIMPLE FIX IS INEXPENSIVE IN COMPARISON SUCH AS OFFERING A REPLACEMENT REGULATOR PIECE MADE OF A MATERIAL MORE RESISTANT TO FATIGUE AND/OR RE-ROUTE THE TUBING THAT HOUSES THE SCREW CABLE SUCH THAT FAILURE OF THE REGULATOR WILL NOT ALLOW THE SCREW CABLE TO RUN BEHIND THE LOCKING MECHANISM. I HAVE SINCE DISCONNECTED THE ELECTRICAL LEAD TO THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR AND TIE-WRAPPED THE WINDOW IN THE CLOSED POSITION PENDING A SUITABLE FIX TO THE REGULATOR. *TR
PURCHASED VEHICLE USED, LOW MILES 32,764, JANUARY, 2009. AROUND EARLY AUGUST, 2009, THE PASSENGER WINDOW FELL DOWN AND WOULDN'T GO BACK UP. YOU COULD HEAR MOTOR RUNNING WHEN WINDOW SWITCH WAS PRESSED. CALLED CHRYSLER ON 8/10/09. THEY ADVISED WINDOW REGULATOR WAS KNOWN ISSUE WITH CHRYSLER (THEY ASSIGNED CASE NUMBER). ADVISED ME TO CALL DEALER. I DID. OUT OF STOCK. TOO, THEY WOULD HAVE TO OPEN DOOR PANEL AND CHARGE ME $59.95 JUST TO TAKE PANEL OFF. HE WOULD THEN HAVE TO CALL CHRYSLER ONCE THE PANEL WAS OFF TO SEE IF THEY WOULD AGREE TO FIX IT. RIDICULOUS. TOLD HIM TO CALL BACK WHEN IN STOCK. WHEN I DIDN'T HEAR BACK, I PHONED A COUPLE MORE TIMES AND THEN GAVE UP. WENT AHEAD AND HAD IT FIXED BY A REPAIR MAN 9/2/09 AT A COST OF $230. THE THIRD WEEK OF OCTOBER, 2009, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL DOWN A FEW INCHES AND WOULDN'T GO UP OR DOWN. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP OR DOWN. YOU COULD AGAIN HEAR THE MOTOR RUNNING WHEN THE WINDOW SWITCHES WERE PUSHED. THE TWO REAR WINDOWS COST ME $400 TO HAVE FIXED WITH MY REPAIR MAN. I HAD GIVEN UP ON THE DEALER. IN ALL THREE INSTANCES, I WAS SHOWN THE BROKEN PART THAT WAS TAKEN OUT OF THE DOOR PANEL. THE CABLES ARE BREAKING FREE IN THE WINDOW REGULATORS. *TR

DRIVERS SIDE DEFECTIVE WINDOW REGULATOR, CABLE BRAKES, WINDOW WILL NOT OPERATE. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT A THIN NYLON PART HAD BROKEN FROM THE LIFT COMPONENT THAT THE WINDOW ATTACHED TO, THAT COULD BE REPAIRED/REPLACED FOR $5.00, HOWEVER CHRYSLER DID NOT MAKE THE CABLE AVAILABLE AND INSTEAD CONSUMERS WERE BEING FORCED TO BUY THE ENTIRE MOTOR ASSEMBLY FOR $180.00 AND LABOR AT $350.00 EVEN IF THE MOTOR AND/OR REGULATOR WERE NOT DEFECTIVE. THE REASON WHY THE WINDOW FAILED, WAS BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE OF THE POOR NYLON PART COMPONENT OR CABLE INSTALLED. ONCE THE SMALL NYLON PIECE BROKE OFF, THE NYLON PART WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE ACTUAL CABLE THAT MOVED UP AND DOWN VIA THE WINDOW MOTOR, OR THE CABLE WOULD BREAK ITSELF. THE WINDOW MOTOR CONTINUED TO WORK. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FRO THE EXACT SAME FAILURE SEVEN TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT WINDOW FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 66,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED; HOWEVER, A REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT WAS REPAIRED IN 2007 UNDER RECALL 06V288000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,800. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,200.

UPON FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD A HOLE IN IT FROM RUBBING AGAINST THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONTACT WILL MAKE THE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,519.
POWER WINDOW REGULATORS...BREAK AND WINDOWS FALL . 2004 JEEP LIBERTY.. TOMORROW WILL BE 5 TIMES TO HAVE NEW WINDOW REGULATORS. MINE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE THERE IS SUCH A PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER HAS A BACK-ORDER ON THE REGULATORS. NOW MY CHRYSLER DEALER JUST CHARGES $100 TO REPAIR. THE HEADLIGHTS OF MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY SPORADICALLY BLINK ON AND OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING. THIS FIRST OCCURRED OVER A YEAR AGO, WHICH I HAD BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN RESOLVED AFTER HAVING TO REPLACE THE LAMPS OF THE HEADLIGHTS A FEW WEEKS AFTER; HOWEVER, HAS RECURRED OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS. IN RESEARCH I'VE FOUND ON-LINE DISCUSSIONS OF JEEP DRIVERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE, AN ISSUES SOME COMMUNICATE THEY'VE REPORTED AS FAR BACK AS TWO YEARS AGO. I FIND IT VERY DISTURBING THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER WAS UNABLE TO PIN POINT THE ISSUE AND NOW VERY FRUSTRATED TO LEARN OTHERS HAVE THE SAME CONCERNS AND THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. PLEASE TAKE CONSIDERATION INTO THIS MATTER TO HELP RESOLVE THIS VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. *TR
WINDOW REGULATOR IN THREE OF THE WINDOWS FAILED WHILE DRIVING. NO WAY TO PUT UP THE WINDOW WHILE DRIVING. NO WAY TO SECURE THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED. NO WAY TO KEEP RAIN AND SNOW FROM COMING IN THE WINDOW UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED. WE REPLACED THE WINDOW REGULATORS WITH ONES FROM A SALVAGE YARD. WE KEPT OLD PARTS.
2004 JEEP LIBERTY PARKED IN PARKING GARAGE. PUT KEY IN IGNITION AND HAD FOOT ON BRAKE. TURNED KEY ON, PUT IT IN REVERSE AND CAR ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL. PUT SECOND FOOT ON BRAKE AND TRIED TO STOP CAR. CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE CAUGHT A PILLAR AND BETWEEN THAT AND PRACTICALLY STANDING ON BRAKE FINALLY STOPPED CAR. TOOK CAR TO DEALER IN WEST VALLEY UT. THEY COULD NOT REPEAT A DIAGNOSTIC PROBLEM BUT DID STATE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DIRTY AND CLEANED IT, ALONG WITH $1575.95 WORTH OF PARTS AND LABOR. THEY REPLACED A BENT STEERING GEAR. I HAD THE CAR FOR 5 YEARS AND IT NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. I WROTE TO CHRYSLER AND THEY SENT ME A CHECK FOR HALF OF THE $1575.95 DAMAGE. THEY DID NOT INCLUDE ANY OTHER PAPERWORK. I CALLED THEM AND THEY AGAIN WOULD NOT PUT ANYTHING IN WRITING AS TO WHY THEY DID NOT PAY THE ENTIRE AMOUNT. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATION SYSTEM AND I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REST OF THE MONEY. *TR

MY 4 YR OLD SON AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN 199 AT ABOUT 45 MPH ABOUT 5:30 AM JULY 13, 2009 WHEN MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY JUST SHUT OFF, THE ENGINE AND ELECTRIC. I COASTED OVER TO THE SHOULDER, I WAS UNABLE TO TURN ON MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS, I WAS ALSO UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS, SO I REACHED OVER BEHIND ME AND UNLOCKED MY SONS DOOR, AND GOT OUT OF THE JEEP AND WENT AROUND TO GET MY SON OUT. I WAS A FEW FEET BEHIND MY JEEP AND I CALLED MY BOYFRIEND TO LET HIM KNOW WE WERE STRANDED. WHILE ON THE PHONE I NOTICED FIRE AND SPARKS FALLING UNDERNEATH THE JEEP,I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911. WHILE ON THE PHONE WITH THE OPERATOR I HEARD A LOUD BANG LIKE A GUNSHOT AND LOOKED AND SAW SMOKE AND FLAMES FROM UNDER THE HOOD, THE 911 OPERATOR TOLD ME TO RUN FROM THE JEEP AND GET AS FAR AS I COULD, I LOOKED BACK AND THE FIRE WAS HUGE . THE FIRETRUCK AND POLICE CAME AND PUT OUT THE FIRE, EVERYTHING FROM THE FRONT SEAT TO THE FRONT BUMPER WAS MELTED. THE WHOLE INSIDE WAS FILLED WITH SOOT AND WATER, THE WINDSHIELD WAS BROKEN. THE FIRE MARSHAL SAID NOT TO EVEN SEND IT TO A SHOP, IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE JUNKYARD. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE BRAND NEW OF MAY 2004, I BOUGHT IT FROM HAYNES JEEP IN RICHMOND. THE ONLY THING THAT HAD EVER BEEN REPAIRED WAS THE STARTER, AND THE FIRE MARSHAL INSPECTED IT AND REASSURED ME THAT THE STARTER HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FIRE.AFTER THE FIRE I DID LOOK UP RECALLS, THERE WAS ONE THAT CAUSED UNDER THE HOOD FIRES, YOUR CAMPAIGN NUMBER FOR IT IS 04V337000, THE ENGINE AND COOLING JULY 2 , 2004. I SUBMITTED THIS RECALL TO THE FIRE MARSHAL AND HE BELIEVES IT IS THE REASON FOR THE FIRE, AND IT ALSO SAYS SO IN HIS REPORT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER/JEEP AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING, THEY WILL NOT EVEN COME AND LOOK AT THE JEEP. THEY SAY MY VIN DOESN'T FALL INTO THIS RECALL CATEGORY. MY HUSBAND IS A MECHANIC. HE AND HIS EMPLOYER WERE TRYING TO MANEUVER A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY INTO THE WORK STALL FROM THE PARKING LOT. THE JEEP HAD A BROKEN BALL JOINT (A CONDITION THAT THEY LATER FOUND WAS UNDER RECALL NOTICE) AND WOULD NOT STEER, SO MY HUSBAND WAS GUIDING IT WITH A FLOOR JACK WHILE HIS BOSS WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL, BRAKING WHEN NECESSARY TO HELP CONTROL FORWARD MOMENTUM. THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING. THIS IS STANDARD PROCEDURE, ONE CARRIED OUT MANY TIMES BY BOTH MEN. BOTH MEN HAVE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE EACH AS AUTO MECHANICS. THERE IS A LIP JUST AT THE DOOR OF THE SHOP TO PREVENT WATER FROM COMING IN, AND WHEN THE JEEP CAME TO THIS LIP, THE VEHICLE TIPPED SLIGHTLY, AND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE TOUCHED THE GROUND. INSTANTLY, THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE VEHICLE JUMPED FORWARD AT FULL POWER. THE BOSS LITERALLY STOOD AS HARD AS HE COULD ON THE BRAKE BUT TO NO EFFECT. THE VEHICLE LEFT A LONG BLACK SKID LINE BEHIND IT WHERE THE BACK TIRES WERE TRYING TO BRAKE, BUT THE FRONT TIRES WERE CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE. MY HUSBAND WAS HIT AND DRAGGED FIFTEEN FEET THEN CRUSHED AGAINST AN UPRIGHT SUPPORT. ACCORDING TO BOTH MECHANICS, THE FRONT WHEELS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD POWER TO THEM, SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE AND CANNOT PUT ITSELF INTO FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE: A LEVER MUST BE RAISED MANUALLY. MY HUSBAND HAD TO BE LIFE FLIGHTED TO EMMANUEL HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A COLLAPSED LUNG, BROKEN NOSE, BROKEN COLLARBONE, NINE BROKEN RIBS, AND A BROKEN ANKLE. HE ALSO SUFFERED GENERAL CRUSHING OF MOST OF HIS BODY. A BROKEN LEFT RIB WAS DIAGNOSED TWO WEEKS LATER. THE JEEP WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR OF THE BROKEN BALL JOINT AND THE TRANSMISSION PAN, DAMAGED IN THE ACCIDENT. *TR

THE WINDOW MOTOR REGULATORS FAIL EXTREMELY OFTEN--ON AVERAGE, ONE FAILS EVERY 6 MONTHS. THIS SOMETIMES HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING, AND THE WINDOW CRASHES DOWN INTO THE DOOR. IT IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING TO HEAR THE WINDOW FALL WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING, THE SUDDEN THUD COULD DISTRACT THE DRIVER ENOUGH TO CAUSE A CRASH, AND ANY CHILDREN OR PETS IN THE CAR ARE NOT ONLY EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS, BUT ARE AT RISK OF FALLING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. OTHER TIMES, THE WINDOW FALLS WHILE THE CAR IS PARKED AND THE CAR IS OPEN FOR THE WORLD TO ENTER. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON WINDOW MOTOR REGULATORS FOR THIS VEHICLE. I PURCHASED IT USED IN FEBRUARY 2009, THE FIRST WINDOW MOTOR REGULATOR FAILED LESS THAN 90 DAYS LATER AND ONE HAS FAILED EVERY 6 MONTHS SINCE. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE MY REQUESTS OR RECTIFY THE SITUATION, DESPITE A DOZEN MECHANICS HAVING TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT. *TR
