TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. INTERMITTENTLY THE HEAD-LIGHTS FLICKER OFF AND THEN BACK ON. HE ATTEMPTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. HE DID NOT CONTACT THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2004 JEEP LIBERTY WINDOW REGULATOR FAULTY PART. I JUST HAD IT BREAK ON ME WITHOUT ANY REASON. NO STRESS OR NORMAL USAGE. WAS ON REAR DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW TAT HARDLY EVER GETS USED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WINDOW FRACTURED INTO THE DOOR TRACK AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO OPEN OR CLOSE THE WINDOW. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES PRIOR TO THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,388 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,400.
2004 JEEP LIBERTY WINDOW REGULATORS. REPLACED LEFT REAR WINDOW REGULAR ($450) IN 2009. REPLACED LEFT REAR WINDOW REGULATOR IN JULY, 2010 AT COST OF $96 (GOODWILL WARRANTY). RIGHT REAR WINDOW REGULATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT HASN'T BECAUSE OF COST. NOW FRONT LEFT WINDOW REGULATOR HAS TO BE REPLACED FOR $350. THIS CAUSES HARDSHIPS IN INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS WHILE DRIVING THE WINDOWS GET STUCK OR FALL DOWN WHILE DRIVING CAUSING DISTRACTIONS AS WELL AS FINANCIALLY HAVING TO PAY LABOR AND PARTS COSTS EACH REPEAT TIME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT DUE TO AN ENGINE FIRE UNDER THE HOOD, THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V337000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE REPAIR WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1,800. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 55,000.
NEAR COLLISION DUE TO TORQUE PROBLEM, VEHICLE MOVES SLIGHTLY LEFT WITH ACCELERATION AND MOVES SUBSTANTIALLY RIGHT WITH DECELERATION. IF YOU RELEASE GAS PEDAL IN A CURVE VEHICLE MOVES RIGHT ABOUT 1.5 FEET. DEALER TEST DROVE FOUND VEHICLE SHIFTING TO LEFT AND RIGHT BASED ON ACCELERATION AND INSPECTED VEHICLE INITIALLY COULD NOT FIND FAULT. ONLY THROUGH LOST JEEP FORUMS WITH OTHER OWNERS OF JEEP LIBERTY COMPLAINTS OF SAME PROBLEMS FOUND AND THE FIX WAS THAT ALL OF THE REAR BUSHINGS ARE WORN ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND POSSIBLE THE UPPER TRI-LINK ARM/BUSHING NEED REPLACEMENT WITH THE REAR UPPER BALL JOINT IF MOVEMENT PRESENT. REAL PROBLEM IS THAT DUE TO THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS BUSHINGS WORN OUT THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS SHIFTING SLIGHTLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TORQUE PROBLEM. *TR
THERE IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM WITH THE REAR CALIPERS ON THE 2004 JEEP LIBERTY THE HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES IN THE MATTER OF 2 YEARS. THE DEALER SAYS THEY OVERHEAT AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
2004 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT. ON MARCH 20, 2009 WHILE DRIVING, THE AUTO TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR, WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. ON MARCH 24TH, LIBERTY RETURNED TO US. DEALER CHARGED $500 TO REPLACE WIRING ATTACHED TO PCM, STATING THEY WERE WORN OUT AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. ON APRIL 24TH THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN CONNECTICUT, THE LIBERTY ABRUPTLY DOWNSHIFTED FROM 4TH TO 1ST GEAR NEARLY CAUSING US TO BE STRUCK BY TRAILING VEHICLES, AND WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY OTHER DRIVING GEAR. JEEP DEALER IN GREENWICH, CT SAID THEY SUSPECTED THE TRANNY WAS WORN BUT COULD NOT UNDERTAKE THE REPAIR. WE CANCELLED OUR TRIP AND BROUGHT IT TO A LOCAL DEALER ON APRIL 25TH, BAD PCM DIAGNOSED, REPLACED. WARRANTY COVERED. RECEIVED JEEP BACK ON 5/1/09. LATER THE SAME DAY THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. BROUGHT IT BACK TO SAME DEALER. PCM REPLACED AGAIN WE'RE TOLD. LIBERTY RETURNED TO US ON 5/6/09. ON 6/9/09 WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE JEEP SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY ONCE AGAIN AN ACCIDENT WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED. TOWED TO A DIFFERENT LOCAL DEALER. BAD PCM AGAIN DIAGNOSED. PART HAD TO BE ORDERED. LIBERTY FINALLY RETURNED TO US ON 7/2/09. ON 7/9/09 WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL ROAD, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AGAIN AND WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. WE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DID LAST REPAIR. AS OF TODAY IT REMAINS THERE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN EACH INSTANCE AT THE EXACT MOMENT THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. *TR
LETTER FROM FTC FORWARDING CORRESPONDENCE FROM CONGRESSMAN MCHUGH ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT CONCERNING HIS COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER CORPORATION REGARDING HIS JEEP LIBERTY. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED DUE TO A FAULTY OXYGEN SENSOR AND A CRUNCHING SOUND WAS HEARD WHENEVER THE CONSUMER MADE A RIGHT TURN. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE CRUNCHING SOUND WAS A RESULT OF POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING AND THE REPAIR WOULD COST $825.00. A NEW RACK AND PINION GEAR AND PRESSURE LINES WERE NEEDED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 40,000 MILES, HOWEVER THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL BE SAFE TO DRIVE. HOWEVER, WHILE DRIVING, THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL WELL. JUST BEFORE THE CONSUMER COULD EXIT THE HIGHWAY, THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL FELL OFF THE VEHICLE. THE PLASTIC FENDER ABOVE THE DISLODGED WHEEL WAS RIPPED AWAY. *JB
PARKED VEHICLE AT GAS PUMP. SET PARKING BRAKE, LEFT TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL (ENGINE IDLING). GOT OUT OF VEHICLE AND IT THEN STARTED ROLLING FORWARD. THE PARKING BRAKE HAS NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY SINCE I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AT ABOUT 14,000 MILES AND STILL DOESN'T EVEN AFTER HAVING THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES AND SPRINGS REPLACED. I REPLACED THEM BECAUSE THE RIGHT-REAR PARKING BRAKE HAS TAKEN TO STICKING WHILE DRIVING. A COUPLE OF TIMES I'VE COME HOME AND GOTTEN OUT OF MY VEHICLE TO AN ACRID SMELL OF BURNING AND THE EXCESSIVELY HIGH TEMPERATURES COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR BRAKES. IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE THE GAS-STATION INCIDENT HAPPENED, AND THE ONLY REASON IT STILL DOESN'T HAPPEN IS I NEVER LEAVE IT PARKED OUT OF GEAR ANYMORE. THE PARKING BRAKE IS WORTHLESS AND WOULD NEVER BE OF USE TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY WHERE THE PRIMARY BRAKING SYSTEM HAS FAILED. SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN HURT OR KILLED IF I HADN'T BEEN RIGHT THERE TO JUMP IN MY VEHICLE TO STOP IT FROM ROLLING. *TR
2004 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT :SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT. 63431, DEALER STATES THAT BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARM NEED TO BE REPLACED.
PASSENGER SIDE "AIRBAG LIGHT AND DASH AIRBAG MALFUNCTION" ARE LIGHTED CONTINUOUSLY. THE PARTS (2) HAVE BEEN ON ORDER FOR 3.5 MONTHS. THE DEALER CANNOT GET AN ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL FROM CHRYSLER OR THE PARTS VENDOR. CHRYSLER HAS PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR AND THE DEALER HAS MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT WITH 9712 MILES. ON THE ODOMETER. THE CHRYSLER BANKRUPTCY HAS LEFT ME IN LIMBO. I AND THE DEALER ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR
OUR HONDA CIVIC WAS IN MOTION WHEN STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY AN OUT-OF-CONTROL 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE JEEP PUSHED OUR CAR FOR 1 1/2 BLOCKS BEFORE VEERING TO THE RIGHT, TAKING OUT A UTILITY POLE AND HITTING 3 CARS IN A USED CAR LOT BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THE DRIVER OF THE JEEP STATED THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK AND THE CAR WAS CLEARLY ACCELERATING THROUGHOUT THE ACCIDENT. *TR
I OWN A 2004 LIBERTY AND HAD THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS REPLACED DUE TO A RECALL. I STARTED HEARING AN AWFUL SOUND AND TOOK IT TO MY JEEP DEALER TO FIND OUT THE FRONT UPPER BALL JOINTS ARE BAD. THE LEFT IS SEVERELY SEPARATED AND COULD GO AT ANY TIME. I DON'T HAVE $400 TO REPAIR WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER A DEFECT. THIS VEHICLE IS BARELY 5 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE HAD SOME PRETTY MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH IT. IN THE SHORT TIME THAT I HAVE OWNED IT I OWNED A 1996 JEEP CHEROKEE FOR 8 YEARS AND NEVER HAD MORE THAN AN O2 SENSOR PROBLEM. I WOULD APPRECIATE A RESPONSE AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND MY CAR STARTED SMOKING UNDER THE HOOD AND THE EXHAUST WAS COMING INTO THE CABIN. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR, OIL WAS POURING OUT OF IT. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE BOTH VALVE COVER GASKETS. TWO WEEKS LATER MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND NOW MY HEAD GASKET IS LEAKING. THIS CAR IS A 2004 AND HAS 56,000 MILES ON IT. THE REPAIRMAN SAID THAT HE HAS NEVER SEEN THE VALVE COVER GASKETS GO BAD UNDER 100,000 MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH IN SNOWY CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND BEGAN TO SKID. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE, ALTHOUGH THE INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED, WHICH MEANT IT WAS ACTIVATED. THE CONTACT ALSO HEARD A CLUNKING SOUND. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE LINK IN THE DRIVESHAFT FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED HER TO SEND A RECEIPT FOR THE REPAIR AND THEY WOULD CONSIDER REIMBURSEMENT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,156 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 42,150. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. HE WAS INFORMED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V288000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC TO HAVE THE FRONT END ALIGNED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ALIGN THE FRONT END BECAUSE THE BALL JOINTS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, BUT DID NOT ALIGN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FELT THAT AFTER SUCH A REPAIR, THE ALIGNMENT WAS NECESSARY AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 93,000. UPDATED 03/09/09. *JB
SINCE PURCHASE OF 2004 JEEP LIBERTY IN SEPT 08, I'VE HAD A "HICCUP" WHEN IDLING. IT'S ALSO STALLED A FEW TIMES AND NOT STARTED TWICE. FOUR GARAGES AND TWO JEEP DEALERS LATER I WAS ADVISED THERE IS A SLIGHT MISS IN THE CYLINDER. AFTER SPENDING OVER $300 IN PRE MAINTENANCE(NEW PLUGS WHICH I HAD JUST REPLACED IN DEC AND A DE-CARB) THE ENGINE IS NOW HESITATING AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. ADVISED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY AGAIN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. I'VE SPENT $1700 IN 10 MONTHS ALREADY. I'M TIRED OF THE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE - TRADED IT IN FOR A PONTIAC. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR 15 MINUTES WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE APPLIED, IT SPONTANEOUSLY ROLLED THIRTY FEET AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. SHE IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAS A COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT AND PICTURES OF THE FAILED INCIDENT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.
THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION IS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY COLUMBIA EDITION. AS NOTED IN EARLIER COMPLAINT REPORTS, THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT LATCH BECOMES STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION AND HAS TO BE PRIED OPEN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEYLESS ENTRY FAILED. HE WAS ABLE TO LOCK THE DOORS MANUALLY. THE DEALER REPLACED A FUSE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE KEYLESS ENTRY FAILED AGAIN. THREE OUT OF THE FOUR DOORS COULD NOT BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED WITH THE KEYLESS ENTRY NOR BY HAND. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V111000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 28,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE AUTOMATIC WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED. THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR ALSO FAILED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS REPLACED FOR EACH FAILURE AT DIFFERENT TIMES. MOST RECENT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME AND HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE FOR THE CONTINUOUS MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR MOTOR MAKES GRINDING NOISES. THE CAUSE OF THE NOISES COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. HE DISCOVERED A METAL-RIBBED PIECE PROTRUDING FROM THE INTERIOR DOOR THAT HOUSED A CABLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE DOOR APART AND DISCOVERED THAT THE CABLE SNAPPED FROM ITS HOUSING. THE WINDOW WAS ALSO MALFUNCTIONING. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 60,000.
ENGINE DAMAGED BY SLUDGE, ENGINE STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 60MPH. ENGINE IS COVERED UNDER 70K MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. NUMEROUS CONVERSATIONS WITH CHRYSLER WHO REFUSED TO COVER ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY. CHRYSLER WILL NOT IMPOSE THE WARRANTY, REFUSES RECEIPT FOR MAINTENANCE, AND REFUSES TO PUT DENIAL IN WRITING. ENGINE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, CHRYSLER REFUSES TO HONOR WARRANTY. *TR
CHRYSLER DENIED 70,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. ENGINE SEIZED, AND FAILED TO FUNCTION. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED AS SLUDGE. REGULAR MAINTENANCE WAS DONE AND REGULAR OIL CHANGES WERE MADE. AS MANY RECEIPTS AND DATES PROVIDED AS POSSIBLE. CHRYSLER DENIED WARRANTY, WILL NOT PUT IN WRITING, AND WILL NOT COVER VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED. THE LOW AND HIGH BEAMS BEGAN TO FLASH ON AND OFF, INTERMITTENTLY THE HEADLIGHTS FAIL TO COME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED WITHIN THE HEADLIGHT MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
FOR A MONTH OR SO THE KEY HAD BEEN GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND YOU WOULD HAVE TO START THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK OFF TO GET THE KEY OUT. ONE NIGHT WE WERE SITTING IN CAR TRYING TO GET IT TO START. THE JEEP WOULDN'T START AND WITHIN SECONDS SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM THE TOP OF THE HOOD. THERE WAS 3 ADULTS IN THE JEEP AND 2 CHILDREN. WE ALL GOT OUT AND WITHIN A MINUTE THERE WAS FLAMES DROPPING FROM THE BOTTOM, THEN WITHIN THE NEXT FEW SECONDS FLAMES WERE COMING UP OVER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT. WE WERE ALL SAFE BUT THE JEEP ENDED UP BEING TOTALED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE WIRES TO THE BATTERY OVERHEATED AND CAUGHT FIRE. I BELIEVE THIS WAS A RESULT OF SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE KEY GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION. *TR
THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE, FRONT WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR. AT FIRST, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED, I JUST HEARD A LOUD "BANG" FROM THE SIDE OF MY CAR - I THOUGHT THAT SOMETHING MAY HAVE HIT THE CAR. THIS WAS IN JUNE 2010, 47,000 MILES. THE THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED, THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR. THIS WAS FEBRUARY 14, 2011, 50,000 MILES. THANK GOD I WAS NOT DRIVING ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY WHEN THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED. I HAVE RECEIPTS FOR THE REPAIRS. I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH CHRYSLER, AND THEY ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE 2006 AND 2007 MODELS, BUT NOT FOR THE 2004 JEEP LIBERTY MODELS. THE REAR WINDOW PASSENGER SIDE HAS NOT FALLEN INTO THE DOOR YET. MY GRANDSON'S CAR SEAT IS NEXT TO THAT WINDOW. I KNOW THAT IT IS UNSAFE, BUT I AM LOSING MY JOB THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF FORT MONMOUTH CLOSING. I AM NOW SERIOUSLY THINKING ABOUT GETTING A NEW CAR WHEN I FIND A NEW JOB. THE COMPONENT THAT FAILS IS THE WINDOW REGULATOR. IT HOLDS THE WINDOW IN PLACE, AND WHEN IT FAILS, THE WINDOW FALLS INTO THE DOOR.
NOTICED THAT ONE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS PRESSING UP AGAINST THE PLASTIC FAN SHROUD. INSPECTED THE HOSE AND FOUND THAT SHARP EDGE OF THE FAN SHROUD WAS CUTTING INTO THE HOSE. THE HOSE DEVELOPED A SMALL LEAK OF POWER STEERING FLUID. HAD CAR INTO DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND ASKED THE TECHNICIAN TO INSPECT THE HOSE. HE CONFIRMED THAT THE SHROUD HAD CUT INTO THE HOSE. THE HOSE WAS REPLACED AND CORRECTLY LOCATED AWAY FROM THE SHROUD. THIS WAS A FACTORY ERROR IN THAT THE HOSE SHOULD NOT HAD BEEN INSTALLED UP AGAINST THE PLASTIC FAN SHROUD. UNDETECTED THE END RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN UNEXPECTED RUPTURE OF THE HOSE AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID,AND STEERING ABILITY. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.

THE WINDOWS IN THE JEEP FAIL ANYTIME AND GENERALLY STARTING UNDER 50,000 MILES. WHAT HAPPENS IS THE WINDOW WILL ROLL DOWN, BUT THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET IT BACK UP AND IT STAYS DOWN, EVEN MANUALLY RAISING IT, IT WILL STILL FALL DOWN. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS MADE A REPAIR KIT FOR THE WINDOWS. THE PROBLEM IS TO HAVE SOMEONE REPAIR THE WINDOWS IT COSTS $300-$400 PER WINDOW. I HAVE HAD MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FAIL, THE DRIVER SIDE BACK WINDOW FAIL AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW FAIL ALL WITHIN A 3 YEAR TIME FRAME. I NOTICED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, FOR NO REASON AT ALL, THE BACK DRIVER SIDE WINDOW SLID DOWN. THERE WAS NO RECOVERY, SO I VISITED THE CHRYSLER DEALER, DARNER CHRYSLER-JEEP IN MESA, ARIZONA. I ALSO CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY AGREED TO COMPENSATE HALF OF THE TOTAL BILL OF $304.57. THEY COMPENSATED $154.57. ABOUT A MONTH LATER, NOVEMBER 23, 2007 I HAD THE EXACT EVENT HAPPEN ONLY IT WAS THE DRIVER WINDOW THAT HAD SLID DOWN. I REPEATED MY VISIT TO THE DEALER AND CALLED CHRYSLER TO ASK FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE. THEY AGREED THIS TIME TO PAY FOR THE LABOR OF $147.00. I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR $162.89. I NOW HAVE A THIRD WINDOW WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM THAT I DISCOVERED YESTERDAY, JANUARY 31, 2008. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED A REPAIR APPOINTMENT. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,435 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,122.

THE VEHICLE STALLED ONCE WHILE DRIVING AND THEN RESTARTED ITSELF MOMENTS LATER. THE CONTACT FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 60,000.

MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY ONLY HAS 51,761 MILES AND THERE SHOULD NOT BE SUCH A SERIOUS PROBLEM SUCH AS THIS GIVEN THE AGE AND MILEAGE OF THIS VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE WAS ALREADY RECALLED IN THE SPRING OF 2007 FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO PAY FOR MY UPPER BALL JOINT REPAIR. *TR
