The ball joint broke while I was driving I lost all control of vehicle
Today 6/16/2025 I’m having trouble turning to the right and left leaving from a stop sign we checked to be sure power steering fluid is full and it is. The person who checked the power steering fluid level, said that there is rubber grommets under the hood with the suspension and staring that look like they are all decayed or dry rotted. I have not had a problem with it breaking yet, but I’m sure that’s coming. Not sure it’s safe to drive.
About 6 months ago the passenger side front end to hit the ground, just after going 60 miles an hour thankfully turning in daughter's driveway. Lower ball joint passenger side came apart. On Monday doing 35 mph the driver side hits the pavement hard! Luckily I ditched in a driveway on the left! The tire slammed into the fender well breaking the plastic there and the piece that goes back under the doors? Ball joint broke completely into? I'm on my third day of working in the rain alongside a road repairing this?
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle swerved to the left across three lanes of traffic and the contact turned the steering wheel to the right to prevent the vehicle from veering to the left. The contact then stopped on the shoulder of the highway. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the Police were on scene and determined that the vehicle could not be driven. The contact stated the Police Officer picked up the ball joint that had detached from the driver’s side front suspension of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle had not been taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 06V288000 (Suspension). The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 225,000.
P235/70R16 The car was parked, when I left on the morning of July 14 to go to work, it had already exploded. I thought it was the excess heat but the strange thing was the separation that occurred.
While driving on a long trip, a burning smell was noticed. The heated seats had not been turned on, as they are rarely used & the indicator light for the heated seats was not on. When the driver stopped to inspect, the back of the seat had burned through the lumbar support pillow. The seat is severely charred and damaged through the inner foam layer of the seat. The seat will need to be replaced. The driver could have been seriously injured if the seat had caught fire. Jeep was notified, but expressed absolutely no concern & offered no assistance. An online review revealed that this is a known problem for Chrysler/Jeep (in particular Jeep Liberty) and there have been severe injuries. How many instances must occur before a safety recall occurs? We had no idea that this safety concern existed prior to our own experience.
Lower ball joints gave out on driver’s side while turning, snapping the wheel/tire from the car and dropping vehicle down abruptly. Dealership who fixed the lower control arm and hitch recalls, did not fix and said there was no Lower Ball Joint recall- which was a confirmed recall and lead to vehicle damage and safety hazard
I was driving on a bridge and my ball joint broke. Blew a hole through my tire and my rim and the fender flare blew off. I had had that same ball joint replaced approximately two years prior maybe sooner. I got this Jeep in 2017 and I have replaced the driver side ball joint twice the passenger side ball joint once and the ball joints look bad again.
The connection "bolt" { situated under the vehicle} between the transmission Shift lever and the rod responsible for actually shifting between park, neutral,, forward and reverse transmission gears completely` rusted away.( See attached picture) causing a complete disconnect rendering the gear shift lever useless. The component is available for inspection upon request? It was shear luck that I was in slow city driving when I realized that the vehicle was damaged and not drivable. Until a final repair is made the vehicle is "dead in the water" so to speak. If this failure occurred during a trip, in an isolated place, I would have been abandoned and helpless as soon as I stopped. The fact that the "bolt" situated under the chassis was made of metal that rusted is incomprehensible to me, especially in a vehicle that is sold as suitable for "rough riding" over rocky terrain, through streams and generally roughing it. Common sense dictates that this critical part should have been constructed of sturdier stuff , not metal that rusts. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I can't afford to have it repaired at this time. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH, the suspension suddenly failed, causing the front end of the vehicle to drop down and the vehicle became undrivable. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front driver's side lower ball joint had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was notified of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.

I was traveling on the highway at about 60 mph, hit a small bump in the highway and nearly lost total control. Pulled over and came to a complete stop. Re-entered the highway and nearly lost control even at a slower speed, 55mph.
Slowly crossed railroad tracks ball joint came disconnected forcing disconnection of the front drive shaft
I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport. I was backing out of my driveway when I heard a crunching sound. I got out of the car and saw that the passenger side of my car was much lower than the driver's side. I noticed that their was windshield wiper fluid pouring out of the front end. Upon inspection, I noticed that the ball joint had snapped and the control arm was almost on the ground. Had I been able to get to the freeway as planned, I could have been seriously injured. I called to verify recall information and was informed that the ball joint recall issue had been resolved. However, with further investigation, it seems that this issue is happening after the repairs as well. I have attached pictures. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH, the front driver’s side wheel detached from the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 06V288000 (Suspension). The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the same symptoms. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but was unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
In the past 15 months (recently as last week) I've had to replace the ball joints in the front end. We are the original owner and have the same address when purchased. I see there was a recall notice but i was never informed. NHTSA Recall #06V288000. The repair on 9/210/21 repair was a total of $516.00. The repair in 6/2020 was $516.00 as well. Lower ball joint - $136 Upper control arm - $130 Labor - $250
Reversing out of a driveway went to turn wheel heard loud pop snap front passenger side went to ground fender popped lose discovered by tow that the lower ball joint had snapped and possible lower control arm
Right upper ball joint control arm collapsed while in the drive-through at McDonald's could not move the car turn it or do anything it completely collapsed on the front right side due to corrosion of the lower ball joint and then I know this has been recalled however my car is not under the recall and I don't understand why because it was the same exact issue it's a Jeep Liberty
Drivers side lower ball joint catastrophic failure with no warning signs evident except split boot(s). Separation/break from upper control arm, tie rod and steering assembly at low speed reverse. NHTSA Recall ID: 06V288000 (Daimler-Chrysler Notification Code: F23) of lower ball joints performed by Chrysler authorized dealer/repair station 2007. Dealer contacted two (2) weeks prior to incident to coordinate possible re-repair and/or consideration of faulty OEM parts used in original recall. Consumer stated gas smell around his car and inside. *JB
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while reversing and making a left turn, the front driver’s side ball joint fractured and the lower control arm detached. The steering wheel also shook and jerked while driving approximately 50 mph. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was a recall repaired in 2006, for the ball joints. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the steering wheel would shake with the vehicle wobbling. The contact stated that the vehicle was out of alignment. The contact informed the original owner of the failure, who then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ball joint was faulty, but only performed an alignment. The failure recurred. The dealer was made aware of the failure but did not diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA. The failure mileage was 98,500.
The rear window latch does not work. It will not open to latch the window closed with the back door. The window then opens when driving. I have a bungee cord holding my window closed. So anyone can enter my vehicle and it moves when I stop or go. I am ot able to use my back door due to having to redo it everytime. My driverside door also does not lock or unlock all the doors when I press the lock or unlock button. I have to open my door and shut off jeep and try numerous times for ot to work.
THE BRAKE LIGHT DOESN'T WORK AND THE BULB HAS BEEN REPLACED. APPARENTLY, SINCE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM IN VARIOUS FORUMS; THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. IT WOULD SEEM THAT THE CONTACT OVERHEATS AND MELTS INTO THE PLASTIC HOUSING, CAUSING A POTENTIAL FIRE ISSUE AND RESULTING IN NO CONTACT TO MAKE THE LIGHT BULB WORK.
FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ON RIGHT SIDE HAS FELL OUT TWICE, 8 MONTHS APART. BOTH TIMES THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, GOING LESS THE 20 MPH. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY, AND ON ON REGULAR PAVED ROAD. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD BOTH TIMES. THE FIRST TIME IT BROKE, IT CAUSE MY WHEEL TO BREAK AND FLATTER MY TIRE, SECOND TIME IT DAMAGED MY WHEEL BUT DIDN'T NOT BUST THROUGH IT. MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE BROKE 2 TIMES AS WEEK 1 WEEK AFTER REPAIRED IT BROKE THE 2ND TIME. TRANSMISSION MOUNT HAS ALSO BROKE.
MY FRONT BALL JOINT AND CONTROL ARM BROKE WHY DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD
THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL/ TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE SUSPENSION WHILE DRIVING. I WAS ON THE 5TH FLOOR OF A PARKING GARAGE. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS DIRECTLY CAUSED BY THE LOWER BALL JOINT FAILING. THIS WAS ON A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE. RECALL REPAIRS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED ON FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS ON 04/09/2007. I NO LONGER OWN THIS VEHICLE.
MY CAR HAD BEEN DRIVING FINE WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING I FELT A POP UNDER THE CAR AND THEN MY CAR LOST POWER AND NOW IT WON'T GO INTO GEAR.. BUT IT STILL TURNS ON.
LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IS REPORTING ALL OF MY UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS ARE BAD ON MY 2005 LIBERTY. WITH JUST OVER 125K MILES I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I HAVE OVER $3,000 IN REPAIRS NEEDED, FRONT UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT, REAR BALL JOINTS, FRONT HUB BEARINGS AND BOTH FRONT CV AXLES. THIS IS THE ENTIRE FRONT SUSPENSION (REAR LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE COVERED IN A RECALL AND WERE REPLACED AFTER WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED IN FOR BREAKAGE) . THIS IS OBVIOUS A PROBLEM AND JEEP NEEDS TO DO A RECALL AND REIMBURSE PEOPLE FOR THEIR EXPENSES.
AFTER INSPECTION FROM MECHANICS I WAS TOLD MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE OTHER 05 LIBERTYS IM REFERENCE TO THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS WHERE THE DEFECT IS ALLOWING MOISTURE TO GET IN DAMAGING THE BALL JOINT AND IT'S CRACKING AND RUSTED AND BAD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VIN WHEN I PUT MY VEHICLE INTO GEAR AND START DRIVING FORWARD OR REVERSE I GET LOUD POPS AND. CRACKING NOISE ALSO ANYTIME I HIT A BUMP AND SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY I WAS TOLD THE RATE AT WHICH IT'S DETERIORATING AND HOW BAD IT IS IS EXCESSIVE AND NEEDS FOR A SAFETY CONCERN
MY HEATED SEAT WAS ON LOW AND IT HAS BEEN GETTING EXTREMELY HOT LATELY, WELL TODAY IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. AND ABOUT A MONTH AGO MY BALL JOINTS ALL WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING.
WHILE TRYING TO AVOID A REAR END COLLISION AT 30MPH STEERING AND BREAK PEDAL GOT HARD CAUSING ROLLOVER WHERE THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY NOT DID THE SEATBELT RESTRAIN
PURCHASED A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY IN THE STATE OF WISCONSIN, A STATE THAT HAS EXCESSIVE COLD AND ICY WEATHER, STREETS ARE HEAVILY SALTED. THE JEEP I PURCHASED HAS HAD SEVERAL RECALLS, MAJOR WAS THE REAR END CONTROL ARM, WHICH THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED. 2005 JEEP LIBERTY ALSO HAS MAJOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WHICH CAUSES THE ENGINE COOLING FAN TO SHORT OUT. HAVING IT TO BE FREQUENTLY REPLACED ONCE A YEAR. 2ND MAJOR PROBLEM IS THE FRONT RIGHT CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY FRONT UPPER LEFT AND RIGHT. ALONG WITH WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY, BOTH CORRODES AND CAN CAUSE THE STEERING TO BRAKE INTO, RESULTING IN A LOST OF STEERING CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING. THESE MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS NEEDS SHOULD BE RECALLED, SO THEY CAN BE REPLACED OR REPAIRED. I'VE TAKEN THE JEEP TO DIFFERENT REPAIRS SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE JEEPS ARE KNOWN FOR SAFETY ISSUES INCLUDING ELECTRICAL AND CONTROL ARM PROBLEMS AND TO CHECK FOR RECALLS. *TR
DRIVER'S SEAT BELT COMES UNBUCKLED FOR NO REASON. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT DISENGAGES PERIODICALLY. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO PATTERN TO THE OCCURRENCES . IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. I AM VERY DILIGENT IN MAKING SURE THE BELT IS SECURE BECAUSE I AM AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. BUT, IT STILL DISENGAGES WITHOUT BEING TOUCHED.
WHEN I TURN SHARPLY BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT THE CAR STOPS, THE WHEELS ARE HITTING SOME BAR UNDER THE VEHICLE.
ANOTHER ISSUE MY JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE HAS, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT GO ALL THE WAY INTO PARK POSITION, AND ALLOW THE IGNITION TO BE TURNED COMPLETELY TO THE OFF POSITION SO THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED. I HAVE TO PUSH VERY HARD ON THE GEAR SHIFTER TO GET IT TO GO INTO PARK, IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE KEY. THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE NOT TO BE COMPLETELY IN THE PARK POSITION, OR THE VEHICLE TO JUMP OUT OF PARK AND ROLL AWAY, WHICH COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, OR FATAL INJURY. WHEN I DO A SEARCH ON ACTIVE RECALLS FOR 2005 JEEP I BERRY RENEGADE, IT SHOWS ONE ACTIVE FOR THIS ISSUE, REGARDING TRANSMISSION, AND IMPROPER PARK ANCHOR INSTALLATION, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO NOT BE IN PARK AND/OR COME OUT OF PARK. HOWEVER, WHEN I SEARCH MY VEHICLE VIN IT DOESN'T SHOW THIS RECALL ACTIVE PER MY VIN NUMBER. *TR
EVERY TIME I GET GAS, THE LIBERTY CANNOT TELL WHEN TO STOP THE PUMP FROM PUMPING GAS. GAS ENDS UP OVERFLOWING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR, ON THE GROUND AND EVEN SOMETIMES ON ME. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
EVERY TIME WE PUT GAS IN OUR 2005 JEEP LIBERTY THE PUMP DOESN'T STOP AND GAS OVERFLOWS ONTO THE GROUND AND ONTO THE PAINT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, IS THERE A RECALL OR SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN, THE VEHICLE WAS GOING ALL OVER THE ROAD AND FELT LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THE RIGHT CONTROL ARM WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT ABOUT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V085000 (SUSPENSION). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS IN THE STATE OF OH, AND THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 205,400.
EVERY TIME WE PUT GAS IN OUR 2005 JEEP LIBERTY THE PUMP DOESN'T STOP AND GAS OVERFLOWS ONTO THE GROUND AND ONTO THE PAINT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM,
BUSHING AND BODY BUSHING ON FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, SQUEAK VERY LOUDLY ANYTIME THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, OR WHEN SOMEONE ENTERS OR EXITS THE VEHICLE, THE ADDED WEIGHT TO THE VEHICLE, CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SQUEAK FROM THE FRONT UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, EVERY BUMP OR RUFF SPOT IN THE ROAD, TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL EITHER DIRECTION, EVEN THE SLIGHTEST CAUSES VERY LOUD SQUEAKING, THE SQUEAKING IS PRESENT WITH SIMPLE ROCKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE STEERING FEELS TIGHTER AND SIMPLE TURNS REQUIRE MORE BODY MUSCLE USE, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BOTH IN MOTION AND STATIONARY. THE SQUEAKING/RUBBING IS PRESENT, AT ALL TIMES, WHEN EVEN THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF MOVEMENT OR POSITION CHANGES FROM DRIVER/PASSENGERS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. FEELS LIKE THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE IS ABOUT TO FALL OUT, OR THAT THE FRICTION FROM THE RUBBING OR PIECES IN THE FRONT/ FRONT SUSPENSION, IS GOING TO CAUSE SOMETHING TO WEAR DOWN AND BREAK, WHICH COULD CAUSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE TO BE LOST, AND COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT, THAT COULD POTENTIALLY BE FATAL. WHEN I DO A GENERAL SEARCH FOR RECALLS ON MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE MAKE AND MODEL, IT SHOWS 2 REGARDING THE FRONT SUSPENSION, AND BALL JOINTS, HOWEVER WHEN I SEARCH RECALLS USING MY VEHICLES VIN NUMBER, IT SHOWS '0 UNREPAIRED RECALLS' BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY RECALLS REPAIRED ON MY VEHICLE, AND THE RECALLS THAT SHOW ACTIVE, FIT THE ISSUES GOING ON WITH MY VEHICLE, AND I'M NOT SURE WHY MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE, FITS INTO THE VEHICLES WITH THE RECALL CONCERNS PRESENT AND ACTIVE, BUT MY VEHICLE DOESN'T SHOW AND ONE THAT NEED TO BE REPAIRED BASED ON THE ACTIVE RECALLS. *TR
I NOTICED WHEN DRIVING MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY, WHEN I CAME TO A STOP OR PULLED OFF, I WOULD HEAR A NOISE UNDERNEATH THE BACK OF MY CAR, SOUNDING LIKE A JARRING SOUND , LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE..MY CAR'S STEERING WASN'T AS RELAXED AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN WHEN TURNING ESPECIALLY..THIS NOISE KEPT GETTING LOUDER, I EVENTUALLY HAD IT TOWED TO THE SHOP BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND A ISSUE WITH THE THERMOSTAT..TO FIND OUT MY REAR DRIVE SHAFT HAD POPPED.
I HAVE A JEEP LIBERTY 2005 SPORT THEY HAVE A RECALL ABOUT THE CORROSION ON MY CAR AND THEY DON'T WANT TO TO FIX IT. I AM REALLY SCARED ON DRIVING LIKE THAT.
I HAVE MY BROTHER'S 2005 JEEP LIBERTY WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES. IT IS A VERY IMPORTANT VEHICLE TO ME AS HE PASSED FROM CANCER. TO DATE I HAVE FILLED THE CAR 3X AND EVERY TIME I GET A GAS GUSHER COMING OUT OF THE TANK. THE LAST TIME I WAS EXTRA CAREFUL AND STILL ENDED UP GETTING GAS ALL OVER THE CAR AND MYSELF. NOW I TRY TO ESTIMATE GALLONS SO IT DOESN'T SPRAY OUT AND I STAND OFF TO THE SIDE. 600.00 IS A LOT OF MONEY TO SPEND FOR A NEW FUEL NECK REPLACEMENT. OBVIOUSLY NOT EVERYONE IS REPORTING THIS AS THEY ARE TRYING TO FIX IT THEMSELVES. TRY GOOGLING THIS ON THE INTERNET. THIS IS NOT A SAFE SITUATION, ALTHOUGH GAS ON THE OUTSIDE DISSIPATES QUITE QUICKLY. ONE SPARK AND THE GAS STATION COULD BE TOAST. I AM VERY LEERY OF CHRYSLER & DODGE GAS TANKS, THANKFULLY MY MAGNUM WHICH STARTED ACTING UP HAD A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE FUEL TANK, WHICH DODGE IS NOT VERY QUICK TO POINT OUT. MY MAGNUM JUST STARTED DYING AFTER IT WAS FILLED UP, FIXED NOW I HOPE. HOPING YOU CAN COME UP WITH A RE-CALL FOR THESE JEEPS. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FUELING UP ISSUES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE SUSPENSION SNAPPED AND THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SWERVED TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND DROVE HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT NEW TRAILING ARMS NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,000.
THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS FAILED A SECOND TIME AND WERE REPLACED AGAIN PER NHSTA ID # 06V-288 RECALL F23. THE OFFICIAL MOPAR WEBSITE SAYS FAQ SAYS THAT "Q ONCE THE RECALL IS COMPLETED, WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON THE REPAIR IF THE RECALLED COMPONENT FAILS AGAIN? A IF THERE IS A SUBSEQUENT FAILURE, WE WILL REVIEW THE SITUATION AND IF, IN FACT, IT IS FOR THE SAME CONDITION AS THE RECALL, FCA US WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR FREE." I AM BEING TOLD BY A FCA CASE MANAGER THAT THERE IS A 2 YEAR 24 MONTH WARRANTY ON THE PARTS INSTALLED AS PART OF THIS SAFETY RECALL. THE MOPAR WEBSITE FAQ MAKES NO MENTION OF THIS AND I CAN NOT BE TOLD WHERE TO FIND THIS 2 YEAR 24 MONTH WARRATY. WHY ISN'T FCA FOLLOWING THEIR OWN POLICY STATED TO THE PUBLIC? WHY IS FCA BEING DECEPTIVE AND INACCURATE? HOW SHOULD THIS FALSEHOOD BE ADDRESSED?
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT COMES UNLATCHED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. IT HAS BECOME UNLATCHED AT STOP SIGNS AND RED LIGHTS. IT DOES NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR NOT, THE SEATBELT COMES UNLATCHED . THIS STARTED HAPPENING A FEW MONTHS AGO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND AN ABNORMAL FLOPPING NOISE WAS HEARD. ALSO, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS FRACTURED. THE CONTACT CALLED GRIEGER'S MOTOR SALES CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1756 W US HWY 30, VALPARAISO, IN 46385, (219) 462-4117) WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V278000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH IN A PARKING LOT, THE BALL JOINT DETACHED AND THE AXLE BECAME LOOSE FROM THE BASE OF THE WHEELS, WHICH CAUSED THE WHEELS TO DETACH. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND LATER TOWED TO AUTONATION CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM & FIAT NORTH PHOENIX (LOCATED AT 1646 N 26TH AVE, PHOENIX, AZ 85023, (480) 630-2825) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BALL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V278000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
