THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY FAILURE ON THE VEHICLE OR IN RELATION TO THE RECALL BUT STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR VEHICLES IN THE SALT BELT STATES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO A LOCATION IN A SALT BELT STATE FROM GEORGIA TO CHICAGO, ILLINOIS AND WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND REGISTERED IN GEORGIA, WHICH IS NOT PART OF THE STATES LISTED ON RECALL. CHRYSLER STATES THAT BECAUSE I DON'T LIVE IN LISTED STATES IN THIS RECALL, THAT I AM NOT COVERED. INCIDENTALLY, I LIVE IN KENTUCKY, LESS THAN 10 MILES FROM OHIO BORDER, WHICH IS COVERED. I OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE NEW AND ALWAYS GARAGED KEPT. I CAN PROVIDE PICTURES, ETC. OF VEHICLE. IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF VEHICLE IS RUST FREE EXCEPT THESE CONTROL ARMS. WHEN FILLING UP MY JEEP FOR THE FIRST TIME (I HAD JUST BOUGHT IT THE PREVIOUS DAY), THE PUMP KICKED OFF, AND BEFORE I HAD TIME TO PUT MY HAND ON THE PUMP HANDLE, GAS CAME SPEWING BACK OUT AT ME. ABOUT 1 - 2 GALLONS CAME OUT. I ENDED UP GETTING GAS ALL OVER MY SHOES AND THE BOTTOM OF MY PANTS, AND ALL OVER THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND THE TIRE. *JS
THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE DUE TO WEAR OF A PLASTIC COMPONENT. THE WINDOW SLIDES DOWN COMPLETELY AND CAUSES THE CAR TO BE OPEN TO THE ELEMENTS/THIEVES. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR HAD THE SAME ISSUE THE PREVIOUS YEAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN REFUELING, GASOLINE WOULD SPEW OUT OF THE FILLER NECK WITHOUT WARNING WHICH PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM REFUELING TO CAPACITY. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING OVER A TWO YEAR SPAN. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V252000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE , STRUCTURE). HOWEVER , THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE VEHICLE WAS BEING FILLED WITH FUEL FROM A STANDARD FUEL PUMP EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF SENSOR. WHEN THE FUEL TANK BECAME FULL, THE SENSOR WAS NOT TRIGGERED, RESULTING IN FUEL SPRAYING FROM THE FUEL TANK, COVERING THE SIDE PANEL OF THE VEHICLE, THE GROUND, AS WELL AS THE PERSON FUELING THE VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RECURRING 100% OF THE TIME WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FILLED USING AN AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF PUMP. DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS HAVE BEEN USED WITH THE SAME RESULTS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY HAZARD CONSIDERING THAT THE PERSON FILLING THE TANK AND THE CAR ARE BECOMING SOAKED IN FUEL, AND AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF FUEL BEING SPILLED ONTO THE GROUND. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 25 MPH WHEN THE LEFT FRONT BALL JOINT FAILED AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FALL. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BALL JOINT FAILED AND AS A RESULT, THE UPPER CONTROL ARM ALSO FAILED. IN ADDITION, THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE BALL JOINTS. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT BALL JOINS AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS UNDER THE MANUFACTURER'S RECALL. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE BALL JOINTS WOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL, BUT NOT THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000. THE CONTACT HAD PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V085000 (SUSPENSION:REAR). THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE TO DETERMINE WHAT REPAIRS WERE NEEDED. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SAFETY RECALL L27/ NHTSA 12V-085 *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE CALLED THE DEALER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, SHE WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A PARTS SHORTAGE AND THEY WERE TAKING NAMES, VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS, AND PHONE NUMBERS AND SHE WOULD BE CONTACTED WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVED. THE CONSUMER STATED IT HAS BEEN TWO MONTHS AND THE PARTS WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. *JB
RECEIVED NOTICE ABOUT THE RECALL OF REAR SUSPENSION LOWER CONTROL ARM AND THE DETAILS OF APPROXIMATELY HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO FIX GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN MADE AND PART WAS ORDERED. MADE AN APPT. WITH DEALER TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE AND ACCORDING TO THE RECALL STATEMENT THE WORK WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR BUT GIVE IT MORE TIME IN CASE OF A CONGESTED SCHEDULE OAT DEALER. AT NO POINT WAS I MADE AWARE THAT THE WORK WOULD APPARENTLY TAKE HALF OF THE DAY. THIS DEALERSHIP IS APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR FROM MY HOME AND WAS NOT PREPARED TO SPEND HALF OF THE DAY SITTING IN THE DEALERSHIP, NOR WAS I MADE AWARE THAT I SHOULD BE PREPARED TO SPEND HALF THE DAY THERE WHEN THE RECALL NOTICE SAYS THE WORK ONLY TAKES AN HOUR. THEREFORE, MY CAR IS STILL NOT FIXED AND I WILL HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER JEEP DEALER THAT WILL BETTER ADHERE TO THE APPOINTMENT TIME THEY HAD ME MAKE. *JS
NO PARTS MAY FIX BY END OF MAY AND IT IS NOW THE MID OF APRIL I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER FOR MY JEEP LIBERTY 2005. "SAFETY RECALL L27/NHTSA 12V-085" REAR SUSPENSION LOWER CONTROL ARMS" INFORMING ME THAT REAR SUSPENSION LOWER CONTROL ARM MAY BE CORRODED AND COULD BREAK WITHOUT WARNING AND IT COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF CONTROL AND CAUSE A CRASH. THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERS INFORM ME THAT THEY HAVE NO PARTS AND CHRYSLER SEND THEM FEW AND WILL NOT FIX MY CAR BY THE END OF MAY AND IT IS NOW THE MIDDLE OF APRIL. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, A LOUD METAL TO METAL NOISE EMITTED FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO TRAVEL UNCONTROLLABLY; HOWEVER THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V288000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT). THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE RECALL PART WAS ON A MASSIVE BACK ORDER AND THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN ARRIVAL DATE. THE CONTACT HAD SIGNIFICANT CONCERN OF A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD WHILE WAITING ON THE PART. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 168,000.
MY JEEP RECENTLY WAS UNABLE TO START THE ENGINE. IT WAS FINE JUST THE NIGHT BEFORE WITH NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM, BUT IN THE MORNING I TURNED THE KEY AND ALL I GOT WAS A CLICK AT THE RELAY; THE STARTER NEVER ENGAGED AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER MUCH DIAGNOSIS IT WAS DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE END BREAKING OFF OF A SMALL METAL CYLINDER WHICH ROTATES TO ENGAGE THE STARTER; THE CYLINDER IS LOCATED ON THE LEFT UNDERSIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN. I WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE CYLINDER, NOR THE HOUSING CONTAINING THE CYLINDER, IS SOLD AS A SEPARATE PART... I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY TO THE TUNE OF $300 (THE LABOR WAS ANOTHER $200, AND A NEW IGNITION CYLINDER AN ADDITIONAL $30), TO FIX THIS ONE SMALL PART THAT PROBABLY COST ABOUT $5 TO MAKE. IN MY RESEARCH ONLINE, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON, WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM WITH JEEPS, WITH MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ON FORUMS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. THE ONLY ACTION I KNEW TO TAKE WAS TO FILE A COMPLAINT HERE TO HOPEFULLY INITIATE A RECALL OF THIS PART SO THAT IT EITHER A) IS REPLACED WITH A PART MADE OF BETTER MATERIAL SO AS TO STOP SO MANY FROM BREAKING, AND B) STOPS LEAVING PEOPLE STRANDED WITH A NON-WORKING VEHICLE WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE TAILLIGHT BULB WAS BURNED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BULB BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE DRIVER SIDE TAIL LIGHT ALSO BURNED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO OVERHEATING, WHICH HAD MELTED THE ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE ONLY REQUIRED TO REPAIR WHAT WAS STATED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V288000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT) ONE TIME, AND DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH ANY FURTHER REPAIRS TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 134,755.
WHILE MERGING ONTO ROUTE 17 IN NJ ( A HIGHWAY) IN MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY AND GOING APPROXIMATELY 45MPH THE UPPER BALL JOINT ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE BROKE CAUSING THAT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL TO COME OFF AND BECOME WEDGED BETWEEN THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND THE ROAD . LUCKILY I MANAGED TO GET THE JEEP TO SLIDE TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WITHOUT COLLIDING WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLES. UNFORTUNATELY THIS SAME TYPE OF INCIDENT OCCURRED JUST 7 MONTHS EARLIER IN AUGUST OF 2011 WHILE I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON THE TACONIC STATE PARKWAY AT 60MPH THE FRONT PASSENGER UPPER BALL JOINT BROKE APART CAUSING THAT WHEEL TO FALL OFF AND UNDER THE JEEP, ONCE AGAIN A MIRACLE THAT I MANAGED TO GET THE TRUCK TO SLIDE OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT INVOLVING ANY OTHER CARS ! *JS
THE LEFT OXYGEN SENSOR WIRING HARNESS CONTACTED THE EXHAUST PIPE AND BURNED THE HARNESS. THEY IS A RECALL ON THIS FOR 06 JEEP LIBERTY I WOULD LIKE MINE TO BE INCLUDED IN THIS 06 JEEP NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V036000. *TR
GAS TANK WOULD NOT TAKE FUEL. FOR 177.00 THE DEALER TOLD ME THE SAFTY VALVE WAS STUCK IN THE FILL TUBE AND I NEEDED 1400.00 FOR A NEW TANK. ONLY 72,000 MILES AND ALL NEW VALVES ,2 RECALLS AND NOW THIS. NEVER AGAIN. *TR
TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS OPENED INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE WINDOW MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. KMJ
FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK, THE AUTOMATIC FUEL DISPENSER DOES NOT STOP ALLOWING FUEL TO SPURT OUT. I LOSE ABOUT 1/4 -1/2 GALLON EVERY TIME. I SLOW FILL TO HELP ALLEVIATE, BUT IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. CONSISTENT FUEL SPILLS ON THE PAVEMENT AND SIDE OF VEHICLE. ALSO GAS SMELL INSIDE VEHICLE AFTER FILLING UP. *TR

LEFT AND RIGHT REAR A=ARMS RUSTED AT WELDINGS. A-ARM'S FELL APART LEAVING VEHICLE UNSTEERABLE. VEHICLE TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. QUOTED AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT $1050.00 NO JEEP REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE. *TR
LATE NIGHT I HAD STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND HAD BEGUN TO MOVE WHEN I HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK END OF THE JEEP. I WAS THEN DRIVING AT ABOUT 30 - 35 MPH WHEN THE BACKEND STARTED TO "SLIDE" OUT LIKE I WAS ON ICE. SINCE THERE WAS NO ICE I PULLED OVER TO CHECK IT OUT WITH A FLASHLIGHT. I CHECKED THE WHEELS, PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON, AND SINCE I WAS PRETTY CLOSE TO HOME I DROVE BETWEEN 10 - 15 MPH. TODAY I FOUND OUT THE ONE OF THE CONTROL ARMS WAS SO RUSTED THAT IT BROKE AND THE OTHER WAS RUSTED BADLY WHERE IT WAS WELDED. NOTHING ELSE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE JEEP LOOKED SO RUSTED AND I TAKE GOOD CARE TO GET THE UNDER BODY WASHED OFTEN IN THE WINTER. THE ARMS LOOKED LIKE THEY HAD BEEN SITTING IN A JUNK YARD FOR 20 YEARS OR SO, THEY WERE THAT BAD! WE CALLED THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER TO ASK ABOUT A WARRANTY OR EVEN A RECALL BUT WERE INFORMED THERE WAS NEITHER. SHE GAVE US A NUMBER TO CALL AT CHRYSLER WHICH WE DID IMMEDIATELY. WE WERE TOLD THE SAME THING THERE BUT THEY GAVE US A CASE NUMBER. I DID FIND AN ARTICLE ON THE INTERNET FROM SEPT. 20, 2011 THAT SAID THERE WERE AT LEAST 11 COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT IT WAS BEING INVESTIGATED BY NHTSA. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH THAT I WASN'T DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY 70 + MPH SINCE I USUALLY LEAVE FOR ARIZONA THIS WEEK. SINCE THERE MAY BE OTHER JEEP OWNERS OUT THERE UNAWARE THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN, I DECIDED TO MAKE THIS COMPLAINT. I THINK THAT THIS IS EXCESSIVE RUST ON A VEHICLE ONLY 7 YEARS OLD. EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR A DEATH, PLEASE TAKE THIS COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY. I DO HAVE SOME REALLY GOOD PICTURES OF THE PARTS BEFORE THEY WERE REMOVED FROM THE JEEP IF YOU NEED THEM. *TR
FOR THE SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN A MONTH MY GAS TANK HAS OVERFLOWED WHILE FILLING. I WENT TO A DIFFERENT PUMP THAN THE PREVIOUS TIME. THIS TIME THE PRESSURE OF THE GAS GOING IN WHEN IT OVERFLOWED WAS ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE GAS TO SPRAY BACK OUT AND UPWARD TOWARDS MY FACE. I HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD WHO RIDES IN MY VEHICLE ALL THE TIME INCLUDING WHEN I STOP FOR GAS. I HAVE TO TAKE HER OUT OF HER CARSEAT AND CARRY HER INSIDE TO PAY. I WAS TRAVELING 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I VERY SLIGHTLY LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AS I CAME OVER A BRIDGE. AT THAT POINT, PART OF THE JEEP WANTED TO GO STRAIGHT AND THE OTHER PART WANTED TO GO OFF THE ROAD. IT TRULY FELT LIKE THE JEEP WAS GOING TO ROLL. I SLOWED DOWN AND MANAGED TO KEEP IT GOING STRAIGHT UNTIL I COULD SAFELY PULL OFF THE FREEWAY. HAD IT TOWED TO MY DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE LEFT REAR LATERAL ARM CONNECTING AXLE TO THE FRAME RUSTED THROUGH AND BECAME DISCONNECTED. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE RIGHT LATERAL ARM IS CLOSE TO RUSTING THOUGH AS WELL. ALTHOUGH THE LATERAL ARMS WERE ON BACKORDER FROM CHRYSLER, THE DEALER MANAGED TO FIND ONE FROM ANOTHER DEALER AND REPLACED THE LEFT ARM. WE AGREED TO ORDER THE RIGHT LATERAL ARM AND REPLACE IT BEFORE IT TOO BECOMES DISCONNECTED. *TR

WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH DURING RUSH HOUR WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE, FOLLOWED BY A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. NOISE WENT AWAY AND I PICKED UP SPEED RETURNING TO ABOUT 35 WHEN VEHICLE LOST ALL CONTROL OF BACK TIRES. FISHTAILED AS IF I WAS SLIPPING ON AN ICE PATCH. I PURCHASED A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY FROM A DEALER LOT 01-27-2012. TODAY I FILLED UP THE GAS TANK FOR THE FIRST TIME AND IT OVERFLOWED ON ME, GOT ON MY JEANS LEGS, JACKET, ON THE GROUND AND ON THE LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL OF THE JEEP. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V288000 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT); HOWEVER THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN ESTIMATION ON WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

AT APPROXIMATELY 0520 A.M. ON JANUARY 23, 2012 I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON WEST VIRGINIA ROUTE 26 JUST OUTSIDE OF KINGWOOD, WEST VIRGINIA ON MY WAY TO WORK. I WAS DESCENDING A HILL AROUND SEVERAL SHARP TURNS AT A RATE OF SPEED APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON DRY BUMPY PAVEMENT. WITHOUT WARNING I FELT A VIBRATION WHICH SEEMED TO ORIGINATE IN THE REAR OF MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. SEVERAL SECONDS LATER A HARD THUMP WAS FELT UNDERNEATH THE FLOOR BOARDS ACCOMPANIED BY A METAL SCRAPING NOISE. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR TO INVESTIGATE BUT BEFORE I COULD BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE HALT THE REAR OF THE CAR BEGAN TO COME AROUND TOWARD THE FRONT OF THE SUV FROM THE RIGHT. ONCE I GOT THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED I PUT IT INTO PARK, APPLIED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE, TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND THEN GOT OUT TO INVESTIGATE THE SITUATION. AS I EXAMINED THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT ALMOST TOUCHING THE BACK OF THE WHEEL WELL. I THEN SHINED MY FLASHLIGHT UNDERNEATH OF THE CAR AND SAW THE FRONT END OF THE DRIVE SHAFT LYING ON THE STREET. I COASTED MY CAR INTO A NEARBY DRIVEWAY TO GET IT OFF OF THE STREET. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST JEEP DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. DIAGNOSIS: RIGHT HAND REAR CONTROL ARM FAILURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE EROSION/RUSTING. I HAD THE FAILED PART REPLACED AND AS A PRECAUTION I HAD THE LEFT HAND CONTROL ARM REPLACED AS WELL. BOTH OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAVE OCCURRED IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS? HOPEFULLY, I CAN BE COMPENSATED BY CHRYSLER CORPORATION FOR THE COST OF MY REPAIRS AND TOWING. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE WAS FELT TO SLIP CAUSING A MOMENTARY LOSS OF CONTROL. ON INSPECTION, FOUND THE LEFT REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS RUSTED THROUGH ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE ARM ON THE OUTER AND INNER SIDES. THIS ALLOWED THE ARM TO BUCKLE. THE RIGHT REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS RUSTED SIMILARLY AND IN IMMINENT DANGER OF FAILING.

WHEN GOING TO THE GAS PUMP TO GET FUEL AND PLACING IT ON AUTOMATIC, WHEN FULL THE PUMP SHUTS OFF AND THEN IT "BURPS" BACK AT ME. SPILLING GASOLINE ON ME AND EVERYTHING AROUND ME. IT IS ALSO RUINING THE PAINT ON MY VEHICLE, SPILLING ALL OVER IT EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENS. I HAVE OWNED THE JEEP SINCE 2006 AND IT JUST STARTED DOING IT ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AGO. MY TECH SAID IT MUST BE A FAULTY FUEL TANK FILLER NECK. IT WAS REPLACED AT THE COST OF $443.50. AND THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. HE THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD TRIED TO STEAL MY GAS AND DAMAGED IT. I TOOK MY JEEP TO MY MECHANIC AND HE CANNOT FIND ANY BLOCKAGES OR ANYTHING BENT. HE CALLED TWO DIFFERENT LOCAL JEEP DEALERS AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM.
