REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS RUSTED AWAY ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE ON VEHICLE. VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL CONTROL ARMS WERE REPLACED. CONTROL ARMS REPLACED AT A COST OF $360.00 DOLLARS. *TR
I OWN A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY, EVERY TIME I FILL THE CAR UP WITH GAS, IT SPITS OUT AT ME. NOT JUST A LITTLE, IT GETS ON MY CLOTHES, RUNS DOWN MY CAR AND QUITE A BIT ENDS UP ON THE GROUND. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A LONG TIME. I THOUGHT THIS WAS UNIQUE TO MY VEHICLE, BUT I HAVE FOUND OUT A LOT JEEP LIBERTY OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I DO. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN TO GET FIXED THEY SAID IT COST $2100. THE PEOPLE AT CHRYSLER THAT I HAVE TALKED TO ADMIT THEY HAVE SEEN A LOT OF THIS AND WERE WILLING TO WORK WITH ME, BUT IT WOULD STILL COST ME $500. I BELIEVE THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO ME AND THE ENVIRONMENT AND THESE VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT JUST UNIQUE TO JEEP LIBERTY, BUT TO OTHER JEEP PRODUCTS. *TR
IN BACKING OUT THE DRIVEWAY, THE REAR AXLE SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE RIGHT REAR CONTROL ARM IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE. THERE ARE SIGNS THAT THE LEFT REAR CONTROL ARM IS RUSTED THROUGH AND ABOUT TO FAIL ALSO. I AM LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT ON THE ROAD YET. *TR
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, STARTED HAVING DIFFICULTY FUELING VEHICLE. FUEL SPLASHES BACK UP OUT OF TANK. NOZZLE CONTINUALLY SHUTS OFF BECAUSE GAS OVERFLOWS. OCCURS AT ALL PUMPS-NOT JUST HIGH PRESSURE. THIS HAPPENS DURING ENTIRE FILL PROCESS, EVEN WHEN FILLING AN EMPTY TANK. REQUIRES HAND HOLDING NOZLE AND FILLING AT EXTREMELY SLOW RATE. EVEN AT VERY SLOW RATE, MUST REPEATEDLY STOP ALL FLOW EVERY FEW SECONDS OR PUMP NOZLE WILL AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF DUE TO GAS OVERFLOW. TAKES EXTREME AMOUNT OF TIME TO FILL ENTIRE TANK AND NEVER SURE IT IS FULL DUE TO NOZLE SHUT-OFF CONTINUALLY BEING ACTIVATED WITH BACK UP OF GAS. RESEARCH ON INTERNET SHOWS ONGOING PROBLEM WITH OTHER JEEPS AS WELL. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT UNLATCHES ITSELF WHILE DRIVING, SEEMS TO INITIALY LOCK, BUT WILL UNLATCH ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING. *TR
SHIFT CABLE FAILED WHEN WE ROLLED TO A STOP. WENT TO PUT THE JEEP IN PARK. WOULD NOT GO. WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. MANAGED TO FORCE IT INTO NEUTRAL BUT THAT WAS IT. HAD TO MANUALLY PUSH THE JEEP BACKWARDS TO TRY TO TURN IT AROUND TO TAKE IT TO A SHOP. KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT AS A RESULT MAKING BATTERY GO DEAD. VERY UNSAFE BECAUSE IF THAT SHIFTER CABLE BROKE AT A HIGHER SPEED IT MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE MESSED THE TRANSMISSION UP OR ALLOWED US TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. FOR INSTANCE IT WERE IN DRIVE AND COULD NOT BE SHUT OFF WHAT WOULD WE DO? FOUND OUT FROM LOCAL JEEP DEALERS THAT THEY HAVE TO REPLACE SEVERAL OF THESE A WEEK. MY PERSONAL MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO SECURE ONE FOR SEVERAL DAYS BECAUSE THEY WERE SOLD OUT ALL IN OUR REGION. SUSPECT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM. NO WORD FROM JEEP ON THIS! MECHANIC WAS STUNNED HOW POORLY MADE THE CABLE IS AND WAS SURPRISED IT LASTED AS LONG AS IT DID! *TR
I HAD JUST PULLED OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND HAD STOPPED. I PULLED ON TO THE CITY STREET WHEN I HEARD A NOISE. I AT FIRST THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT TIRE. AND WHEN I WAS TRYING TO PULL OFF TO A SIDE STREET MY JEEP HAD STARTED TO SLIDE SIDEWAY INTO THE OTHER LANE. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE JEEP. I FELT LIKE I WAS SLIDING ON SOMETHING. THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS NEXT TO ME OR COMING IN THE OTHER LANE OR I WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I GOT MY JEEP STOPPED AND THEN MADE MY WAY BACK INTO THE OTHER LANE AND TURNED DOWN A SIDE STREET TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. WHEN I GOT OUT I LOOKED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE LOOKING FOR A FLAT. BUT NO FLAT. I COULD SEE THAT THE REAR TIRE WAS SLIDE BACK CLOSE TO THE UNDER SIDE OF THE WHEEL WELL. I COULD SEE THAT SOMETHING HAD BROKE. I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND WHEN HE GOT THERE AND LOOKED UNDER HE COULD SEE THAT THE REAR TRAILING ARMS HAD BOTH BROKE. THAT THEY WERE RUSTED THROUGH. WE HAD TO HAVE THE JEEP TOWED TO A DEALER THAT WAS CLOSE BY. THEY HAD VERIFIED THAT THEY HAD RUSTED THROUGH. IN ALL THE YEARS THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME BEFORE. I WAS JUST VERY THANKFUL THAT I HAD GOTTEN OFF THE HIGHWAY BEFORE THIS BROKE. I KNOW THAT IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AT A MUCH HIGHER SPEED I COULD HAVE CAUSE A TERRIBLE WRECK. I CAN NOT BELIEVE AFTER SEEING ALL OF THESE COMPLAINT FOR THE EXACT SAME THING THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. HOW CAN A MANUFACTURER OF CARS LET SOMETHING LIKE THIS CONTINUE. THE DAY THIS HAPPENED WAS A CLEAR DRY DAY. TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN I COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY HURT MYSELF OR SOME OTHER PEOPLE. WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR. SOME ONE TO BE KILLED. *TR
TWO YEARS AGO MY JEEP STARTED MAKING METALLIC GRINDING SOUNDS AND VIOLENTLY SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. I LOOKED UNDER MY CAR AT THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT TO SEE IT BREAKING APART FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I NOTIFIED CHRYSLER AND AFTER A LONG CONVERSATION THEY AGREED TO FIX IT ADMITTING IT WAS A FAULTY PART. YESTERDAY THE NOISES AND SHAKING CAME BACK WITH THE NEWLY REPLACED FRONT DRIVE SHAFT. CHRYSLER ADMITS ITS A UNFAIR SITUATION BUT REFUSES TO REPLACE THERE FAULTY PART ONCE AGAIN. THIS WILL CAUSE A ACCIDENT AS IT WILL HAPPEN UNEXPECTEDLY. THANK YOU FOR TAKING MY COMPLAINT. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL MY JEEP LIBERTY (2005) GAS TANK, THE GASOLINE SPLASHES OUT THE FUEL SPOUT ONTO THE VEHICLE, THE GROUND AND ME (THE PERSON FILLING THE TANK). THE AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT SPLASHES OUT ONTO THE CAR AND GROUND WHEN THE TANK REACHES "FULL" IS VERY SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. THIS HAPPENS EACH TIME I FILL THE TANK TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN'T FILL THE GAS TANK TO CAPACITY DUE TO GAS FUME INHALATION AND SPILL ON ME AND VEHICLE. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT AFFECTS MY HEALTH AND SAFETY AND WOULD LIKE IT FIXED. NOW I ONLY FILL THE GAS TANK JUST BELOW CAPACITY SO IT DOESN'T LEAK FUEL. *TR
EVERY SINGLE TIME I FILL UP MY JEEP, IT NEVER FAILS TO OVER FILL. THE GAS PUMP DOES NOT SHUT OFF UNTIL THE GAS IS COMING OUT AND SPILLING ALL OVER MY VEHICLE. *TR
THE REAR CONTROL ARM COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE AS I WAS DRIVING ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY. I LOST CONTROL OF THE JEEP, LUCKILY THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND SO I WAS ABLE TO AVOID A CRASH. THE OTHER ARM IS ALMOST RUSTED THROUGH AS WELL. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE CORROSION IS EXCESSIVE! THE JEEP HAS NOT BEEN USED FOR SNOW PLOWING OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THERE IS NO RUST ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE CAR JUST THE REAR CONTROL ARMS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING OVER A SPEED BUMP IN A PARKING LOT, HEARD A LOUD THUNK. WHILE DRIVING HOME AFTERWARD, OBSERVED THAT THE VEHICLE WASN'T STEERING STRAIGHT AND SWAYED BADLY WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE RIGHT REAR LOWER SUSPENSION CONTROL ARM HAS RUSTED THROUGH, AND SPLIT IN TWO LENGTHWISE. HAD THIS HAPPENED WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED I COULD EASILY HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THIS DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE VEHICLE RUST WARRANTY. *TR
UPON NORMALLY FUELING VEHICLE, GAS WILL EXPEL FROM FILL TUBE WHEN TANK IS NEAR FULL. THIS CAUSES A SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS OUTFLOW OF GASOLINE ONTO PUMP OPERATOR, VEHICLE AND PAVEMENT. GASOLINE HAS ALREADY DAMAGED PAINT FINISH ON VEHICLE. ESTIMATED ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD OF 1 PINT PER FILL-UP OR APPROXIMATELY 100 PINTS PER YEAR. DEALER CHARGED $105 TO TEST FOR CONDITION AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT FUEL SYSTEM SPILLAGE IS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE FILLER TUBE AND VAPOR TUBE. REPAIR COST ESTIMATED AT $640 PARTS AND LABOR. VEHICLE MANUFACTURER MUST BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEFECTIVE VEHICLE SYSTEM AND NOT VEHICLE OWNER. THIS IS NOT A MAINTENANCE ITEM, NOR WAS IT CAUSED BY MIS-USE. THIS VEHICLE DEFECT HAS SERIOUS SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS AND THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN NOTED, CAMPAIGNED AND RECALLED PREVIOUSLY ON MANY OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES. REQUEST THAT VEHICLE OEM PAY TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE PARTS TO AVOID ANY FURTHER CONTAMINATION TO THE ENVIRONMENT, AVOID FURTHER VEHICLE DAMAGE AND ELIMINATE ON-GOING RISKS TO PERSONS. *TR
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM MY JOB EARLY AND I HAD NOTICED A FUNNY GRINDING SOUND WHEN I PULLED OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE. I GOT OUT, CHECKED AROUND THE TRUCK AND SAW NOTHING. I THEN DROVE HOME ABOUT 7 MILES FROM MY HOUSE MY CAR HAD BEGAN GOING RIGHT THEN LEFT AND I WAS UNABLE TO STEER IT AT ALL. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT GOING FAST AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP AND PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. I WOULD HAVE CRASHED IF THIS HAD HAPPENED MINUTES BEFORE WHEN I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST GARAGE AND LEARNED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION CONTROL ARMS HAD BOTH COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND THE ONLY THING KEEPING MY JEEPS REAR END TOGETHER WAS A SWAY BAR. THE MECHANIC SAYS HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER ALSO. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN CONNECTICUT. *TR
IT STARTED BACKING FUEL OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE ALMOST EVERYTIME AS THE FUEL TANK APPROACHED A FULL LEVEL. AT FIRST IT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY BUT LATELY, IT DOES EVERY TIME WHICH RESULTS IN A FUEL SPILL ON THE GROUND, DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, AND ON ME, IF I'M NOT PAYING ATTENTION. IT SEEMS DANGEROUS. THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON MY 07 CHRYSLER ASPEN AND CHRYSLER ANSWERED THE PROBLEM WITH A RECALL AND EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THAT ITEM. IT HAS WORKED PERFECTLY SINCE THEN. I'VE TALKED TO THE DEALER AND THEY DON'T SEEM TO KNOW THE ANSWER...EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS LIKELY TO ME THAT IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE CHRYSLER (MAYBE THE SAME SYSTEM AS THE CHRYSLER). IF THEY SEEMED MORE POSITIVE ABOUT THE REPAIR, I WOULD PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED. *TR
THE FUEL TANK APPEARS TO NOT PROPERLY VENT WHILING REFUELING WHICH CAUSES THE FUEL PUMP TO KICK OFF AND FUEL TO BE EJECTED FROM THE TANK WHILE REFUELING. EVEN WHEN YOU TRY TO REFILL THE TANK VERY SLOWLY THE PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT. SOME FUEL STATIONS DON'T HAVE PUMPS THAT OPERATE AT A SLOW ENOUGH FLOW RATE FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO FILL THE TANK. IT TAKES ABOUT 15 TO 20 MINUTES TO FILL THE 20 GALLON TANK. *TR
WHEN GAS IS FINISHED PUMPING, A PINT OF GAS SPILLS DOWN SIDE OF VEHICLE THEN ONTO GROUND. AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF DOESN'T ENGAGE WHEN FINISHED PUMPING GAS AT ANY GAS STATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD RUMBLE AS THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY TILTED TOWARD THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME FOR INSPECTION BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVESHAFT WAS FRACTURED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-35 MPH DOWN ROAD, WEATHER CONDITIONS DRY, SUNNY, TEMPERATURE 55 DEGREES. HEARD SOMETHING SNAP/BREAK, LOST CONTROL OF CAR, SWERVED INTO ONCOMING LANE. PULLED INTO PARKING LOT AND NOTICED SOMETHING BROKE ON REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR. CALLED LOCAL CAR DEALER, CAR WAS TOWED AND RIGHT REAR CONTROL ARM WAS BROKEN. ARGUED WITH DEALER BECAUSE IT WAS VERY NOTICEABLE THAT IT WAS RUSTED RIGHT THROUGH. HAD NYS INSPECTION DONE ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2011 AND WAS NEVER TOLD THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. AFTER HAVING IT REPAIRED, DEALER NEVER NOTIFIED ME THAT THE DRIVER SIDE WAS ALSO RUSTED. TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP THE FOLLOWING WEEK AND ALSO HAD THAT ONE REPLACED. I TOLD BOTH REPAIR FACILITIES THAT I WANTED THE FAULTY PARTS BACK. AFTER RESEARCHING FOR INFORMATION, REALIZED THERE IS A NHTSA ACTION NUMBER OF EA11013 THAT IS EXACTLY THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED TO ME. I DO HAVE PICTURES OF THE PARTS - BOTH THE BROKEN ONE AND THE ONE I HAD REPLACED IF YOU WOULD LIKE THEM. *TR
DRIVING 2005 JEEP LIBERTY CRD (TURBO DIESEL) ON HIGHWAY AND ENGINE CUT OUT COMPLETELY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. ALL DASH LIGHTS FLASHED ON AND OFF, ASD LIGHT REMAIN ILLUMINATED. COASTED TO SHOULDER. ENGINE WOULD NOT START. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED FUEL PUMP FUSE. CLAIMED THEY COULD FIND NO CAUSE FOR THE BLOWN FUSE. EXACTLY THE SAME ASD CUT OUT REPEATED OVER NEXT FOUR MONTHS, ONCE MORE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, ONCE IN PARKING LOT. DIFFERENT FUSES BLOWN AND REPLACED EACH TIME. FINALLY DEALER TRACED TO FRAYED WIRING IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. TAPED WIRES, NO FURTHER ASD CUT OUTS. TECHNICIAN STATED HE WOULD NEVER DRIVE A LIBERTY OUTSIDE OF CITY AS WIRING HARNESS ROUTINELY FRAYS DUE TO TIGHT FIT OVER MENTAL BODY AND COMPONENTS IN ORIGINAL CONSTRUCTION. CLAIMED VERY COMMON AND VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND OR CORRECT AS MOST WIRING IS INACCESSIBLE BEHIND BODY PANELS. CLAIMS JEEP IS WELL AWARE, HE CLAIMS ENTIRE HARNESS SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH LONGER HARNESS AND THICKER INSULATION. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS CUT OUT IS INSTANTANEOUS AND OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
EVERY TIME I GO TO FILL MY JEEP UP, THE GAS TANK OVER FLOWS. IT SHUTS OFF AFTER A SECOND OR TWO, BUT THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF GAS THAT GOES ON THE FLOOR, AND ALL OVER MY CAR! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD UNTIL SHE SHIFTED INTO PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS SAFELY DRIVEN HOME AND WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 81,859. UPDATED 11/28/11 *CN
WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE NO LONGER CAUSES THE GAS NOZZLE AUTOMATIC CUTOFF VALVE TO OPERATE BEFORE FUEL IS OVERFLOWING DOWN THE SIDE OF VEHICLE AND ON THE GROUND. UNTIL THIS FALL, THE VEHICLE USUALLY CUTOFF THE NOZZLE AS THE TANK WAS FULL - VERY FULL - BUT PRIOR TO OVERFLOW. STARTING TWO MONTHS AGO, THE TANK ALWAYS OVERFLOWS AT EVERY PUMP USED. THIS GASOLINE SPILL SEEMS DANGEROUS AND IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN. I HAVE NOTICED THAT MINE IS CERTAINLY NOT THE FIRST COMPLAINT OF THIS NATURE, AND IT SEEMS TO BE BECOMING A PREVALENT CONCERN WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE.
THE REAR CONTROL ARM OF OUR 2005 JEEP LIBERTY CORRODED AND BROKE IN HALF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT GOING ABOUT 10 MILES PER HOUR. *KB
WHILE DRIVING ON A PRIVATE STREET, HEARD A "POP" NEAR THE BACK OF VEHICLE. I STOPPED AND CHECKED TO SEE IF I HAD A FLAT, AS THE CAR WAS SWERVING AS IF I HAD A FLAT TIRE. HOWEVER, UPON INSPECTION, TIRE WAS FULLY INFLATED BUT IT WAS RUBBING THE BACK OF THE WHEEL WELL. THE WHEEL WAS OFF-CENTER AND THE VEHICLE ITSELF WAS LOWER TO THE WHEEL. I PROCEEDED TO PULL INTO MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER VIEWING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, NOTICED THE RUSTED BROKEN ARM OF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM (LEFT REAR). THE OTHER SIDE IS RUSTED AND CRACKED AS WELL (RIGHT REAR). FORTUNATELY I WAS TRAVELING IN A SUBDIVISION AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED. OTHERWISE I FEEL HAD I BEEN ON A BUSIER HIGHWAY AT HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, MAY HAVE LOST CONTROL AS THE CAR WAS SWERVING WHILE I WAS ONLY DOING 20MPH AND UNDER. *TR
MY JEEP IS MAKING WINDING AND GRINDING NOISES. I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE BALL JOINTS WHICH CHRYSLER EVENTUALLY AGREED TO REPLACE SINCE IT IS CONSIDERED A REPEAT RECALL FOR THEM BUT THE NOISE, VIBRATION AND SHIMMY IN THE STEERING HAS PERSISTED AND THE SERVICE DEPT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THE PERSON ASSIGNED TO MY CASE TOLD ME HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME TO FOLLOW UP. DAYS LATER WHEN I FINALLY TRACKED HIM DOWN IN BETWEEN HIS BREAKS AND PHONE CALLS HE TOLD ME THAT THE DEALER TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS JUST NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I HAVEN'T TAKEN MY CAR OFF ROAD AND IT HASN'T BEEN IN THE SNOW OR ON SALTY ROADS. THE LAST TIME THAT I TRIED TO REACH HIM I WAS TOLD THAT HE DID NOT WORK ON WEDNESDAYS. STILL NO RESPONSE FROM CHRYSLER FROM ANYONE REGARDING WHETHER OR NOT ITS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT THEY WILL COVER OR ASSIST WITH. I UPDATED MY CASE WITH THE INFO THAT I WOULD ADD TO YOUR ONGOING INVESTIGATION IF I DID NOT RECEIVE AN UPDATE REGARDING ASSISTANCE FROM THEM. THE JEEP IS 5 YRS. OLD AND IS STILL MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AND I CANNOT GET A RESPONSE OF ANY KIND FROM CHRYSLER. I HAVE A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY IN EFFECT UNTIL THE END OF NOVEMBER. FIRST THE DRIVERS REAR REGULATOR FAILED, CAUSING THE WINDOW TO FALL AND BREAK INSIDE THE DOOR. I REPLACED BOTH THE WINDOW AND THE REGULATOR. SIX MONTHS LATER THE PASSENGER REAR REGULATOR FAILED AND THE WINDOW DROPPED IN THE DOOR. THIS TIME IT DID NOT BREAK THE GLASS. JUST A MONTH AFTER THE WARRANTY ON THE DRIVER REAR EXPIRED, IT FAILED AGAIN. NOW I HAVE NO WORKING BACK WINDOWS. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AS AN ISSUE BUT STATED THERE IS NO RECALL. HE RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT UP WITH CHRYSLER. AT FIRST I JUST ASSUMED IT WAS RELATED TO A PARTICULAR PUMP, BUT HAVE FOUND THAT IT OVERFLOWS NO MATTER WHERE I PURCHASE GAS. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON LIBERTY OWNERS FORUMS AND TALKED TO OTHERS WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME HAVE HAD THEIR TANKS REPLACED, WHICH SEEMS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS DANGER, ESPECIALLY WITH 3 YOUNG KIDS OF AGES 7,5,2 AND IF GOD FORGIVE SOMETHING HORRIBLE WOULD HAPPEN AND CERTAINLY AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE ESPECIALLY WHEN SUCH EFFORTS ARE MADE TO EVEN CONTROL VAPOR EMISSIONS ON MODERN VEHICLES. I HAVE TO FILL IT HALFWAY AND THEN SLOWLY TOP IT OFF THE REST OF THE WAY OR RISK AN OVERFLOW OF UP TO A LITER OF FUEL ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 72,256. UPDATED 10/19/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HE STARTED THE JEEP AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO IDLE. WHILE IN PARK, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BY ITSELF DEPRESSED AND THE MOTOR ACCELERATOR TO 5,000 RPM ACCORING TO THE INTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO OFF AND PULLED THE KEY OUT. THE MOTOR DID NOT SHUT OFF. THIS CONTINUED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME UNTIL THE MOTOR SEIZED FROM RUNNING AT THAT CAPACITY. UPDATED 10/14/11
IN A CLEAR SUNNY DAY I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY WHEN I HEARD A BIG BANG ON MY LOWER END FRONT OF MY JEEP LIBERTY. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE ROAD THAT COULD HAVE DAMAGED IT. THE ROAD WAS CLEAR OF ANY DEBRIS. AFTER A COUPLE OF YEARS TAKING IT IN INTO MY JEEP DEALERSHIP THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. FINALLY NOT THIRD BUT FORTH WAS A CHARM WHEN THEY TOLD ME THE LOWER FRONT ARMS AND BUSHING NEEDED REPLACING. I HAVE HEARD FROM MANY JEEP OWNERS THAT THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS I WANT TO KNOW WHY THESE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED. *TR
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH BACK PASSENGER WINDOW SYSTEMS. BOTH WENT DOWN WITH SEEMINGLY NO CAUSE AND IT COST HUNDREDS TO REPAIR EACH. NO ONE EVER RIDES IN THE BACK OF MY CAR. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN, BUT I UNDERSTAND IT'S COMMON IN THESE VEHICLES. SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED BY CONSUMER PROTECTION. *TR
