TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HE WAS APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT BUT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. HE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED BY THE DEALER TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT NOT TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER SINCE THE DEALER WOULD NOT DISCLOSE THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES, WHEN BRAKING WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 29,000. 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE, STRUCK A DITCH, OVERTURNED AND WENT THROUGH THE RIGHT OF WAY FENCE. *BF ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, ALL FOUR TIRES WERE EXTREMELY WORN, SOME BEING COMPLETELY BALD. OHIO TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT # 10-0141-89
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHERE THE MECHANIC FOUND RUST AND CORROSION ON THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,300.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED A SMALL FIRE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED ACCORDINGLY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD THE EGR VALVE REPLACED BUT COULD NOT CONFIRM IF IT WAS LINKED TO THE CURRENT FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,376 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,385.
EVERY TIME I PUT FUEL IN MY CAR, THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF DOES NOT ENGAGE. I SPLASH GAS ALL OVER MY CAR AND IT DRIPS TO THE GROUND. IF I AM NOT SUPER CAREFUL, I ALSO END UP WITH GAS ON ME AND I HAVE THE SMELL OF FUEL ON ME. I MUST STAND CLOSELY TO MY CAR, AND I MUST LISTEN TO THE FUEL AND GUESS WHEN TO STOP PUMPING. I WORRIES ME EVERYTIME I FUEL MY CAR. *TR
WHILE FILLING FUEL TANK AIR TRAPPED IN THE TANK DOES NOT VENT PROPERLY RESULTING IN FUEL SPILLAGE ON THE VEHICLE AND GROUND. THIS HAPPENS AT EVERY FILL UP
THE WINDOW REGULATORS CONTINUOUSLY BREAK. THE WINDOWS CREEP DOWN AND CANNOT BE ROLLED BACK UP. OFTEN, THE WINDOWS FALL DOWN INTO THE DOOR CAUSING A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD FOR CHILDREN OR PETS THAT COULD FALL OUT OF A MOVING VEHICLE. THERE IS ALSO A CONSIDERABLE THEFT AND SAFETY OPPORTUNITY AS THE WINDOW REGULATORS BREAK WITHOUT NOTICE, ALLOWING SOMEONE TO REACH INTO THE VEHICLE. THE LEFT REAR WINDOW REGULATOR IN MY VEHICLE HAS BROKEN FOUR TIMES NOW (IT HAPPENS APPROXIMATELY EVERY NINE MONTHS), AND THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW HAS BROKEN ONCE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE SERVICE REPAIR TECHNICIANS TO EXPECT THE PROBLEM TO CONTINUE TO OCCUR, AS THE PLASTIC PART THAT IS BEING REPLACED HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED IN DESIGN. THIS LAST TIME THAT THE LEFT REAR WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE, A THICK METAL CABLE LODGED ITSELF INTO THE LATCH IN THE DOOR. THE REAR LEFT DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD IN THE EVEN OF AN ACCIDENT AS AN EMERGENCY CREW WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE DOOR OPEN, NOR COULD A PASSENGER GET OUT IF NEED BE. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW MECHANISM BROKE - THE WINDOW FELL INTO THE BOTTOM OF DOOR PANEL. THIS HAPPENED LAST YEAR ON MY LEFT SIDE PASSENGER DOOR WINDOW AND IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO JEEP. HOWEVER, INSTEAD OF RECALLING THIS AND FIXING IT, I HAD TO PAY $520 FOR A REPAIR TO THE DEALER. THIS IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE IT HAPPENS AT ANY TIME WITHOUT WARNING, AND THERE IS NO WAY TO PUT THE WINDOW UP ONCE IT FALLS DOWN INTO THE DOOR. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT FAR FROM HOME OR ON A TRIP WHEN THIS HAPPENED, OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THERE ARE THOUSAND OF PEOPLE OWNING JEEP LIBERTIES WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
2005 JEEP LIBERTY FUEL TANK OVERFLOWS DURING FULL TANK FILL-UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT MULTIPLE FILL-UP STATIONS AND IS ALMOST CERTAINLY NOT A RESULT OF ANY PARTICULAR PUMP DEFECT. DURING A FULL-TANK FILL UP THE AUTO-SHUT WILL ENGAGE BUT ONLY AFTER SPILLING FUEL OVER THE CAR AND ONTO THE GROUND CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE FREQUENCY OF THE ISSUE HAS BEEN INCREASING OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. THE PROBLEM NOW OCCURS AFTER ALMOST EVER FILL-UP. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM EXPERIENCED BY MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY SUDDENLY TURNED OFF COMPLETELY AND MINUTES LATER IN THE PARKING LOT OF A BANKING ESTABLISHMENT WENT UP IN FLAMES. THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE BAY AND QUICKLY MOVED THROUGH THE REST OF THE CAR. THE FIRE DESTROYED THE VEHICLE AND ALL OF MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS. THERE WERE NO PRIOR SIGNS TO INFORM ME THAT A FIRE WAS SOON TO COME OTHERWISE I WOULDN'T HAVE DRIVEN IT. *TR
REAR DRIVER WINDOW JUST FELL INTO THE DOOR. SEEMS THE POWER WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE AND YOU MUST BUY THE ENTIRE UNIT NOT JUST THE PIECE THAT BROKE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND THIS IS USUAL OCCURRENCE ON THIS VEHICLE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. ALSO CHRYSLER SEEMS TO DRAG THEIR FEET ON RECALLS. I TURNED IN MY RECALL CARD OVER A YEAR AGO ON THE BALL JOINT RECALL AND HAVE YET TO GET A CALL TO BRING MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY IN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE ESPECIALLY SINCE THE BALL JOINTS ARE SUCH AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE SUSPENSION.....I AM AFRAID OF MY SAFETY WHENEVER I GET ON THE HIGHWAY FEARING THESE JOINTS ARE GOING TO GIVE OUT. 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. APPROX 62,000 MILES. GASOLINE WILL OVERFLOW FROM TANK WHEN FUELING BEFORE PUMP AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF. THE GASOLINE WILL OVERFLOW AT EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED TO "FULL", REGARDLESS OF STATION LOCATION OR BRAND. MOST OF THE TIME THE AMOUNT OF OVERFLOW IS ESTIMATED AT LESS THAN A CUP, BUT HAS BEEN AS MUCH AS A PINT ON A FEW OCCASIONS. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN FOR THE FIRST 4 YEARS THE VEHICLE WAS OWNED, AND THEN WOULD ONLY HAPPEN OCCASIONALLY. THE TANK NOW OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME. SINCE THE ISSUE IS PRESENT REGARDLESS OF THE PUMP USED, THE VEHICLE ITSELF IS THE LIKELY DEFECTIVE COMPONENT. I HAVE READ MANY REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE ONLINE, BUT AS OF YET THIS ISSUE HAS NOT LED TO A RECALL. THIS IS A HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE AS IT IS A FIRE HAZARD. IT IS ALSO A HAZARD FOR THE PERSON PUMPING THE GAS AS THE PERSON HAS THE GASOLINE SPILLED OR SPRAYED ON THEM. THE SPILLAGE WILL ALSO CAUSE THE CAR TO SMELL OF A GASOLINE ODOR AND FUMES ARE LIKELY PRESENT. I MUST NOW MAKE SURE MY 2 MONTH OLD IS NOT IN THE VEHICLE WHEN I REFUEL AS I AM WORRIED ABOUT HIM BEING EXPOSED TO THE FUMES. *TR

THE GAS TANK ON MY JEEP 2005 LIBERTY RENEGADE OVERFLOWS EACH TIME I FILL UP THE CAR NOW. THIS HAPPENED THE LAST THREE TIMES I FILLED UP, EVEN THO WE USED DIFFERENT BRANDS AND GAS STATIONS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AS IT SPILLS GAS ALL OVER THE PERSON FILLING AND THE GROUND! *TR

TREAD ON GOODYEAR WEATHERHANDLER FUEL MAX TIRES GONE AFTER 13,000 MILES. TIRES SQUEALED WHEN GOING AROUND CURVE, MAKINGS TURNS. TIRES WERE PURCHASED AT SEARS WITH A 65,000 WARRANTY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS DEFECTIVE AND MADE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN ONE YEAR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
2005 JEEP LIBERTY DIESEL WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS DUE TO TORQUE CONVERTER. JEEP REPLACED THE FIRST ONE AT 28,000 MI AND I AM REPLACING THE 2ND AT 83,000 MI. I AM REPLACING IT BECAUSE BETWEEN 25 AND 45 MPH THE RPM'S CONSTANTLY VARY BY 200 TO 500 RPM AS WELL AS OCCASIONALLY A SHIFTING SHUDDER OCCURS WHICH CAN CAUSE RUPTURE OF THE TC AND SUBSEQUENTLY DESTRUCTION OF THE TRANSMISSION AT TIME OF ACCELERATION. I HAD TO DO SOMETHING TO AVOID BEING STRANDED ON A HILL SOMEWHERE. *TW
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY CRD DIESEL. I BOUGHT IT USED ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO AT 56,000 MI. FROM A PRIVATE OWNER. IT NOW HAS 86,000 MI. I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING A WEEK AGO. THE CAR STARTS AND RUNS FOR 30 SECONDS AND STALLS. THEN YOU CANNOT RESTART IT. THE STARTER SPINS THE ENGINE BUT IT WONT START. IF YOU OPEN THE HOOD AND PUMP THE HAND PUMP ON THE SIDE OF THE FUEL FILTER, WHICH IS MOUNTED ON THE LEFT FIRE WALL, THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY START AND RUN. YESTERDAY, AS I WAS PUMPING THE FUEL FILTER HAND PUMP I NOTICED A DROP OF FUEL COME FROM THE CONNECTOR FOR THE FUEL HEATER ON THE SPIN ON FILTER HEAD. WHEN I TRIED TO START IT, IT STARTED RIGHT UP AS IT HAD BEFORE WHEN I PUMPED THE HAND PUMP. AS I WALKED AROUND TO SHUT THE HOOD I COULD SEE THE FUEL DRIBBLING OUT BETWEEN THE WIRES OF THE FUEL HEATER PLUG ON THE HEAD OF THE SPIN ON FILTER. HALFWAY HOME I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF DIESEL FUEL, OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW THAT THE LEAK WAS GETTING WORSE BECAUSE THE PLUG WAS SOAKED IN FUEL AND RUNNING THRU THE HEATER PLUG DOWN THE FIREWALL. THE DEALER (TYSON MOTORS OF JOLIET IL) DENIES THAT THERE IS ANY PROBLEM AND SAID I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I HAVE GONE TO WEB SITES AND THERE ARE SCORES OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME DANGEROUS CONDITION WITH THEIR VEHICLE. MANY HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE. SO FAR I AM TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL. I GUESS THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE DEAD YET. *TR
THE VEHICLE IS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY 4 CYLINDER GAS ENGINE. THERE WAS A PRESSURE BUILD UP THAT CAUSED CAM SEALS TO GIVE WAY. ENGINE WOULD REQUIRE 3 QUARTS OF OIL EACH DAY UNTIL FIXED. MECHANIC REPLACED SEALS AND WHEN ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY PUT TOGETHER AND STARTED THE SEALS BOTH BLEW AGAIN. THE OIL PUMP AS REMOVED TO BE CHECKED FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE PUMP BUT WHEN THE PUMP WAS REMOVED FROM ENGINE, PIECES OF CAST IRON (FROM ENGINE BLOCK) FELL OUT. *TR
THE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT ON THE STEERING COLUMN UNLOCKS AND RELEASES OFTEN WITH NO WARNING. I FIND THE LOCK BAR DROPPED DOWN AND FULLY RELEASED. WHEN RESETTING IT IS NOT FIRMLY HELD IN PLACE. IT IS A REAL CHALLENGE TO CONTROL A STEERING WHEEL THAT MOVES UP AND DOWN. *TR
WHEN REFUELING GAS TANK, FUEL SPEWS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK, SPRAYING OWNER AND SURROUNDING AREA REGARDLESS OF THE STATION OR PUMP USED. WHEN TANK NEARS THE FULL STATUS, IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF AS IT SHOULD BUT BUILDS UP PRESSURE AND THEN SPEWS OUT OF THE TANK. THIS HAS OCCURRED 5 TIMES NOW. *TR
THREE TIMES WHEN I FILLED MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY, THE PUMP SHUT OFF AND THEN GAS OVERFLOWED ALL DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND ONTO MY HAND AND SLEEVE. I OBVIOUSLY DON'T FILL IT ANYMORE, BUT THIS IS ALSO CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON SO IT WON'T PASS INSPECTION. JEEP SAYS THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE SEVERAL WEBSITE FORUMS WHICH TALK ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND ALSO VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE SHOWING IT. MY OWN MECHANIC SAID HE'S HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING WITH OTHER CHRYSLERS ALSO. JEEP IS WORKING WITH ME TO COVER PART OF THE COSTS, BUT THERE'S A SERIES OF PARTS THAT MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND IT NEEDS TO BE RETESTED EACH TIME. BY THE TIME ALL IS SAID AND DONE, EVEN MY PART OF THE REPAIRS COULD BE SUBSTANTIAL. I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND JEEP SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEBODY IS SERIOUSLY HURT. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP GAS TANK FOR 2005 JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE, IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF WHEN TANK IS FULL, CAUSING GAS TO GUSH OUT. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK THE FUEL SPEWS OUT AND DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF. THIS HAPPENS AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND STARTED HAPPENING AT APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES. *TR
OVER TIME, THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF ON FUEL PUMPS AT GAS STATIONS BEGAN TO NOT SHUT OFF UNTIL AFTER A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF FUEL HAD SPILLED OUT (UP TO A HALF GALLON). AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT MAY BE THE DESIGN OF DIFFERENT PUMPS, SO I EXPERIMENTED WITH DIFFERENT STATIONS. I FOUND THAT NO MATTER WHAT STYLE PUMP OR STATION I AM AT, THIS CONTINUES TO OCCUR. I HAVE HAD TO RESORT TO ESTIMATING HOW MUCH GASOLINE I NEED BASED ON MY GAGE PRIOR TO TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. ANOTHER OPTION IS TO UNDERESTIMATE AND NEVER REALLY HAVE A FULL TANK. I HAVE FOUND THAT SEVERELY SLOWING THE PUMP DOWN TOWARD THE END OF WHAT I THINK IS THE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE I NEED FOR A FULL TANK WILL USUALLY (BUT NOT ALWAYS) GET THE PUMP TO SHUT OFF IN TIME PRIOR TO OVERFLOWING. ALTHOUGH I HAVE GOTTEN BETTER AT ESTIMATING, THERE ARE STILL TIMES THAT GASOLINE OVERFLOWS. ASIDE FROM A FIRE HAZARD ON THE VEHICLE AND ON THE GROUND AT THE PUMP, THE GASOLINE CAN CAUSE BODY DAMAGE OVER TIME. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ATTEMPTING TO "TOP OFF" THE TANK AFTER THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. THERE IS NO TOP OFF ROOM WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD OTHER VEHICLES THAT COULD TAKE AN EXTRA GALLON OR MORE AFTER THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF, BUT THIS ONE DOES NOT. AFTER LOOKING AT SEVERAL FORUMS AND OTHER ONLINE POSTS, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, LEFT MY INFORMATION WITH THEM TO BE PROCESSED, AND WAS TOLD I'D BE CALLED BACK. THEY CALLED BACK AND LEFT A VOICEMAIL SAYING THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE TAKING ANY ACTION TO FIX IT AND THAT I COULD CALL BACK IF I HAD ANY QUESTIONS. I CALLED BACK AND COULD NOT GET THE AGENT THAT WORKED ON MY CLAIM TO CALL ME BACK. *TR
BOTH FRONT SEAT BELTS CONTINUALLY UNLATCH BY THEMSELVES. ALSO, THEY ARE HARD TO GET LATCHED. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES AND HAD ONLY APPROXIMATELY 25,000 WHEN THE SEAT BELTS FIRST STARTED MALFUNCTIONING, SO THEY HAVEN'T BEEN USED THAT MUCH. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO COMPLAIN BUT THEY SAID THE SEAT BELTS WILL COST $60 EACH WITHOUT INSTALLATION. IT'S SAD THAT SUCH A PREVALENT AND SERIOUS ISSUE SUCH AS THIS ISN'T CURRENTLY BEING RECALLED. MAYBE IT'LL TAKE A FEW PEOPLE BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED FOR JEEP (CHRYSLER) TO PERFORM THIS RECALL...... BUT THEN AGAIN, THEY'LL PROBABLY JUST SAY THE PERSON SIMPLY WASN'T WEARING THEIR SEAT BELT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY DIESEL ENGINE PURCHASED NEW APRIL 2005. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE HE COULD SMELL A BURNING ODOR. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM BOTH THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR WHEELS. HE THEN ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE , BUT IT WOULD NOT ENGAGE INTO DRIVE MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND HE WAS AWAITING THE DIAGNOSIS OF THE VEHICLE. HE SPECULATED THAT HIS FAILURES ARE IDENTICAL TO THE DESCRIPTION REFERENCED IN RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V341000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE TO DATE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 40,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY HAS HAD NUMEROUS ENGINE PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED IT. THREE TIMES WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND I WAS UNDER WARRANTY, THE MECHANIC AT THE JEEP DEALERSHIP TURNED THE LIGHT OFF AND SAID THAT WAS "JUST SOMETHING JEEP'S DO." NOW THAT MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, I NEED AN ENTIRE NEW ENGINE. THE MECHANIC SAYING THAT OIL IS NOT FLOWING THROUGH THE LINES IN THE ENGINE. I RECENTLY REPLACED THE WATER PUMP AND THE MECHANIC MENTIONED IT WAS MUCH TOO SOON FOR THAT. WITHOUT LOOKING AT SERVICE RECORDS OR SPEAKING WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR OR HAD THE CAR SERVICED UNDER WARRANTY, THEY REJECTED MY APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE FOR PARTS AND/OR LABOR WITH THE REPAIR. I GUESS THAT IS THE "NEW" CHRYSLER. I HAVE NOW TRANSPORTATION. COMMUTE F HOURS PER DAY ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN LA AND AM PAYING $45.00 PER DAY STORAGE FEE AT THE GARAGE UNTIL I CAN AFFORD THE REPAIRS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY REPORTS REFERENCING THE FAILURE. THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

I HAD TO HAVE TWO WINDOW REGULATORS REPAIRED. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TO HAVE ALL THE WINDOW REGULATORS REPAIRED SOME OF THEM MULTIPLE TIMES FOR A TOTAL OF EIGHT. I'M AWARE THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT, BUT PERHAPS THERE'S STRENGTH IN NUMBERS. I'VE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY JEEP UP UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AGO, IT HAD BEEN PARKED FOR ABOUT A MONTH WHEN ONE DAY I NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW WAS DOWN ABOUT 3-4". I TURNED ON THE VEHICLE TO DISCOVER THAT THE REGULATOR APPEARED TO HAVE GONE OUT. THIS IS ESPECIALLY ODD CONSIDERING THE WINDOW'S BEEN USED MAYBE 3 TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. NOW, SINCE I REFUSE TO PAY $300 TO FIX SOMETHING THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAS ADMITTED TO BEING DEFECTIVE (I.E. THEIR FAULT), I'M STUCK DEALING WITH A VISUAL IMPAIRMENT AND SECURITY ISSUE THAT COULD LEAD TO ETHER AN ACCIDENT OR THE THEFT OF THE VEHICLE ITSELF. WHEN DRIVING, AS I OFTEN DO IN MY VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY ON THE INTERSTATE, I NEED TO BE ABLE TO LOOK OVER MY SHOULDER AND QUICKLY DETERMINE AT TIMES WHETHER OR NOT IT IS SAFE FOR ME TO MOVE OVER. THE FACT THAT THE WINDOW FALLS AT THE SLIGHTEST BUMP, NOT ALL THE WAY DOWN, BUT JUST ENOUGH SO THAT THE TOP OF THE GLASS PRESENTS A VISUAL IMPAIRMENT THAT CAUSES ME TO HAVE TO UNNECESSARILY MANEUVER TO TRY AND SEE. THERE IS ALSO THE MATTER OF OCCUPANT EXPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS AND THE FACT THAT SINCE THE WINDOW WILL FALL FOR NO APPARENT REASON ANY TIME, DAY OR NIGHT, IN USE OR NOT, THIS PRESENTS A WONDERFUL TARGET FOR WOULD-BE THIEVES AND BURGLARS. *TR

THIS IS A "KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE JEEP LIBERTY" AS STATED BY THE DEALER, BUT THEY WILL NOT MAKE A PERMANENT FIX. ON A LATER DATE, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WOULD OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY AND WAS SLOW TO RETURN TO THE CLOSED POSITION. ALSO, BOTH THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOWS WERE DROPPING BACK INTO THE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL SERVICE SHOP WHERE THEY ADVISED THE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS FAULTY IN DESIGN AND REFERRED HER TO HER LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE SHE WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNDER 36,000 AND THE CURRENT JUST UNDER 59,000.
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY WHOSE IGNITION SWITCH JUST FAILED. HAD IT TOWED AND THE IGNITION SWITCH MUST BE REPLACED (WHICH IS UNDER WARRANTY), BUT IT ENTAILS ALSO EXCHANGING THE STEERING COLUMN (WHICH, IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY). THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY $800.00 TO FIX THIS MY WARRANTY WHICH IS STILL UNDER EFFECT THAT COMPONENTS NOT LISTED ARE NOT COVERED UNLESS REQUIRED AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE FAILURE OF A COVERED COMPONENT. HAVING READ COMPLAINT AFTER COMPLAINT WITH JEEP LIBERTIES STARTING WITH YEAR 2002 TO PRESENT, IT BECOMES OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT AND IT APPEARS JEEP HAS DONE NOTHING TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM AND IS COERCING PEOPLE (EVEN UNDER WARRANTY) TO PAY FOR THIS. 2005 JEEP LIBERTY SHORTED OUT FUEL HEATER CAUSED A FIRE ON THE FUEL AND WATER SEPARATOR WHICH MELTED ONTO THE WIRING HARNESS BELOW CAUSING THE JEEP TO STALL IMMEDIATELY AND FILLING THE DRIVER COMPARTMENT WITH SMOKE. WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK, AS THE FUEL LEVEL NEARS THE FUEL TANK CAPACITY THE GASOLINE SPLASHES OUT OF THE FILLER NECK AND SPREADS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE JEEP LIBERTY AND FORMS A LARGE PUDDLE ON THE PAVEMENT OF THE GAS STATION. THIS LARGE PUDDLE OF GAS COULD CAUSE A FIRE/EXPLOSION IF IGNITED, THEREBY KILLING THE OCCUPANT OF THIS JEEP LIBERTY AND OTHER CUSTOMERS AT THE GAS STATION. IN ADDITION TO THIS IF THE LARGE PUDDLE OF GASOLINE IS NOT IGNITED, AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE SPILLED FUEL HAS ALL EVAPORATED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE CAUSING POLLUTION TO OUR ATMOSPHERE. ONCE I REACHED MY DESTINATION, I WAS UNABLE TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE SINCE I CANNOT SECURE THE WINDOW OR THE CONTENTS. I'VE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHO HAVE INFORMED ME THAT REPAIRS WILL BE IN EXCESS OF $200.00 AND THAT THIS HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL.
