TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, FUEL SPEWED OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. IN ORDER TO FILL THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL, ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF FUEL COULD BE PUMPED AT A TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE BEGAN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V252000 (FUEL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO NOT HIT A DEER, THE VEHICLE FLIPPED AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL BEGAN TO LEAK OUT AFTER THE VEHICLE LANDED UPSIDE DOWN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE MINOR INJURIES TO THE CONTACT'S FOOT AND ARM THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

WE RECEIVED THE NOTICE ABOUT THE GAS/FUEL TANK POTENTIAL TO CATCH FIRE, WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT WE HAVE TOO MUCH CORROSION ON OUR VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED. THE COST TO REPAIR EXCEEDS THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE, CURRENTLY WE ARE STILL DRIVING WITH A VEHICLE THAT MAY CATCH FIRE. WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AS WE STILL ARE PAYING OFF THE VEHICLE, WE WHERE GIVEN THE RUN AROUND UNTIL FINALLY ONE ASSOCIATE TOLD US SIMPLY, THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU. PRIOR TO THIS RECALL NOTICE WE HAVE CONSTANTLY HAD ISSUES WHEN FILLING UP WITH GAS AND THE GAS WOULD LEAK OUT IN LARGE QUANTITIES INSTEAD OF SHUTTING OFF. WE REPLACED THE OIL PAN RECENTLY AFTER IT RUSTED OUT, WE ARE ABOUT TO REPLACE TO TRANSMISSION FLUID PAN AS THAT IS ABOUT TO RUST OUT, THE TRANSMISSION LINES ARE ALSO RUSTING AND CORRODED. OUR JEEP MAY BE AN 05 BUT IT LOOKS AS IF ITS BRAND NEW ROLLING OFF THE LINE, WE TAKE CARE OF OUR VEHICLE. WE ARE INFORMED CONSUMERS AND KNOW THERE IS A RECALL FOR CHRYSLER FAILING TO FIX THE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION ISSUES, WHEN WE LOOKED UP THE VIN FOR OUR VEHICLE IT WAS NOT SHOWING THAT IT IS ONE OF THE ONE'S BEING RECALLED. OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND WE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. WE WANT TO KNOW IF OUR VEHICLE WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WE STILL HAVE ALL THE PAPERWORK FROM VISITING THE DEALER. WHEN WE TOOK THE VEHICLE UP FOR THE RECALL, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US THAT JEEP HAS ISSUES WITH RUST TO BEGIN WITH AND THAT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT HAS YET TO BE CORRECTED.
THERE IS UNCOMFORTABLE NOISE WHEN DRIVE THROUGH AND TURN. AFTER INSPECTION, THEY TOLD ME THAT BOTH UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS IN FRONT ON BOTH SIDES WERE DAMAGED.
JEEP LIBERTY 2005, LESS THAN 70000 MILES. GAS OVERFLOWS UPON FILLING UP TANK. AT FIRST THOUGHT, IT WAS FUEL PUMP. HOWEVER, THIS HAPPENS AT ALL STATIONS EVERY TIME IT IS TO BE FILLED UP. RIGHT REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING, CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WENT UNDER THE FENDER CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HIT AN ONCOMING VEHICLE HEAD-ON. UPON INVESTIGATION, I REALIZED THAT THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS ON THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECALLED IN APRIL 2012 IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES DUE TO RUST. ALTHOUGH I LIVE IN KENTUCKY, WHICH I AM TOLD IS NOT THE SALT BELT, IT IS STILL OBVIOUS THAT THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS WERE USED ON MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2005 AND HAD NO PREVIOUS OWNERS. A MECHANIC HAS ALSO VERIFIED THAT THE RIGHT LOWER CONTROL ARM BROKE DUE TO RUST AND THAT THE LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARM IS RUSTED. AND ALTHOUGH I HAVE BEEN A REPEAT CUSTOMER HAVING ALSO PURCHASED A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY NEW AND A 2012 DODGE RAM NEW, THE COMPANY HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THESE OBVIOUSLY DOCUMENTED DEFECTIVE PARTS. I HAVE RECENTLY CONTEMPLATED PURCHASING A NEW JEEP LAREDO; HOWEVER, I AM DONE WITH JEEP, DODGE AND CHRYSLER PRODUCTS AND INTEND TO GO WITH FORD, GM AND/OR CHEVROLET IN THE FUTURE. *TR
AT APPROX 8:00 ON THE MORNING OF 2/16/15 MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY, 3.8L V-6 WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO ACCELERATE OUT OF CONTROL WHILE BRAKING FOR A STOP SIGN. THE ENGINE WAS COLD, I HAD JUST STARTED IT AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE MID TO UPPER 50S. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 27 MPH, AND BEGAN TO SLOW FOR THE STOP. AT ABOUT 10-15 MPH, I NOTICED THE CAR WAS NO LONGER SLOWING DOWN. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. AT THE SAME TIME, THE ENGINE BRIEFLY REVVED ON ITS OWN. THIS MADE THE CAR ACCELERATE. I COULD NOT STOP AT THE STOP SIGN AND THE CAR ACCELERATED INTO 50 MPH CROSS TRAFFIC. I MADE A HARD RIGHT TURN TO BRING THE CAR NEXT TO THE CURB, ALLOWING ROOM FOR TRAFFIC TO GO BY. AT THE SAME TIME, I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND THAT ALLOWED THE CAR TO STOP. I THEN PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND REVVED THE ENGINE. IT SEEMED TO RESPOND NORMALLY AT THAT POINT (ENGINE WOULD RETURN TO IDLE IMMEDIATELY AFTER TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE GAS). AFTER SHIFTING BETWEEN PART TO DRIVE, THEN REVERSE, ETC. SEVERAL TIMES, IT STILL SEEMED TO WORK NORMALLY SO I CONTINUED TO WORK WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH WHILE COMING TO A STOP, THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT DOWN SHIFT OR DISENGAGE. AS THE ENGINE RPMS WERE REDUCED BELOW IDLE DUE TO THE CAR SLOWING, THE COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEM TRIED TO BRING THE ENGINE SPEED BACK UP, CAUSING IT TO ACCELERATE. A COUPLE OF FACTS - THE CAR HAS APPROX. 159,800 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I PURCHASED IT USED A FEW MONTHS AGO AND HAVE PUT 13,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I PURCHASED IT I HAD IT EXAMINED BY A MECHANIC AND HAD ALL THE HOSES, BELTS, ETC. REPLACED. I'VE HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT ABOUT 5,000 MILE INTERVALS. I DRIVE WITH ONE FOOT ONLY, I DON'T USE SEPARATE FEET FOR THE GAS AND THE BRAKE. THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT MOVED BEFORE OR AFTER THIS INCIDENT, AND IS NOT CLOSE TO THE GAS PEDAL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS HAD RUSTED OUT. MY SON TOOK HIS 2005 JEEP LIBERTY IN FOR THE RECALL WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO INSTALL A TRAILER HITCH TO PREVENT THE GAS TANK FROM RUPTURING DURING A REAR END COLLISION. THEY TOLD HIM HIS FRAME HAD TOO MUCH RUST ON IT AND THAT THEY COULD NOT PUT ON THE HITCH. IT IS A NY CAR AND HE NOW LIVES IN ARKANSAS. IT IS IN NORMAL CONDITION FOR A 10 YEAR OLD CAR DRIVEN YEAR AROUND IN UPSTATE NY. I AM SURE THAT THEY HAVE NOT SEE AS MUCH RUST ON VEHICLES IN ARKANSAS SO I THINK THEY ARE ANTSY ABOUT ANY RUST AT ALL. OR, THEY ARE LOOKING FOR ANY EXCUSE NOT TO DO THE REPAIR. THE AMOUNT OF RUST JUST SPEAKS TO THE ORIGINAL DESIGN/MANUFACTURING QUALITY IF ANYTHING. IT BEEN OVER 2.5 YEARS SINCE THE RECALL WAS FIRST ANNOUNCED AND OVER A YEAR TO THE POINT THAT THEY HAD ENOUGH HITCHES. HE'S BEEN TRYING TO GET IN FOR REPAIR THE LAST 6 MONTHS. I'M SURE 3 YEARS AGO THERE WAS LESS RUST ON THE FRAME BUT IT HAS TAKEN THIS LONG TO GET IT IN. IS JEEP OFF THE HOOK BECAUSE OF RUST? SHOULDN'T JEEP BE REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM ON ALL VEHICLES THAT ARE STILL ON THE ROAD? SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE ANOTHER FIX IN PLACE FOR JEEPS THAT CAN'T ACCEPT THE "HITCH" FIX? IT APPEARS FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THAT JEEP PURPOSELY DELAYED THE RECALL SO THERE WERE FEWER VEHICLES LEFT ON THE ROAD AND NOW THEY GET TO MAKE THE CALL WHEN THERE IS TOO MUCH RUST. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FEEL THAT MY SON IS SAFE IF JEEP IS ALLOWED TO SAY "PASS" ON REPAIRING HIS VEHICLE. WHO ALLOWED JEEP TO DECIDE IF A VEHICLE GETS THE FIX OR NOT. WHY WAS JEEP ALLOWED TO HAVE A FIX THAT CAN'T WORK ON ALL VEHICLES STILL ON THE ROAD? I HAVE READ THERE HAVE BEEN ADDITIONAL JEEP FIRES AND DEATHS JUST IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS AND JEEP STILL HAS THE ABILITY TO REFUSE TO FIX SOME VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE. BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND INSPECTED IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS MODEL IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTO-ADJUSTING SYSTEM THAT DOES NOT AUTO ADJUST AS STATED IN THE SERVICE MANUAL. VEHICLE HAS POPPED OUT OF GEAR AND COASTED FROM ITS PARKING SPOT WITH PARKING BRAKE FULLY APPLIED. (SEE COMPLAINT 10897627 FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION COMPLAINT). NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETIN RELATING TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTED FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THERE WAS ALSO FLUID LEAKING AND THE PRESSURIZED HOSES WERE RUBBING TOGETHER. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE WAS 96,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I HAVE CALLED AND CONTACTED JEEP HOT LINE AT 18774265337 BUT NO LUCK. FUEL OVERFLOWS FROM FILLER AFTER AUTO-SHUTOFF OF PUMP OCCURS. OCCURS EVERY TIME FUELING OPERATIONS OCCURS REGARDLESS OF FUEL STATION. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ISSUE BUT NO SERVICE BULLETINS OR RECALLS. POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD.
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY, THE BACK TAILGATE WILL NOT UNLOCK AND OPEN UP. I CAN UNLOCK THE WINDOW AND IT DOES LIFT UP BUT THE TAILGATE WILL NOT OPEN.
TWO VEHICLES TRAVELING NORTH BOUND ON A HIGHWAY WITH A SPEED LIMIT POSTING OF 50MPH. WE WERE HIT ON THE PASS. SIDE FRONT FENDER, SENDING US HEAD-ON INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER, SENDING US AIR BORN AND SPUN AROUND, COMING DOWNWARD, LANDING NOSE FIRST BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY, STRIKING THE OTHER VEHICLE UPON LANDING, AND SLID ANOTHER 100 YARDS INTO THE RIGHT SIDE EMERGENCY LANE OF THE HIGHWAY. PASS. WAS CUT OUT OF THE VEHICLE BY EMS. BOTH OCCUPANTS TAKEN TO HOSP. ONE OF THE SEVERAL INJURIES WAS A LACERATION TO THE NECK OF THE PASS. FROM THE SEATBELT, LEAVING A PERMANENT SCAR. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED! PASS. ALSO RECEIVED CERVICAL AND LUMBAR INJURIES AND BRUISED LEFT KNEE. DRIVER RECEIVED RIGHT & LEFT SHOULDER, RIGHT UPPER & LOWER QUADRANT, AND NECK TRAUMA. BOTH OCCUPANTS ARE HAVING CONTINUOUS HEADACHES TO DATE. BOTH OCCUPANTS HAVE BEEN FIRE & RESCUE FOR OVER 35 YEARS EACH, THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE GONE OFF! *TR

DRIVER HAD JUST PULLED OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND WAS GOING DOWN THE STREET. AFTER ABOUT 150 FEET FROM DRIVEWAY, VEHICLE SUDDENLY PULLED TO THE LEFT, HIT A PARKED VAN, RODE UP ON THE VAN'S FRONT TIRE AND ROLLED OVER. INSPECTION OF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE REVEALED THE THE DRIVERS SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM HAD SNAPPED CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL.

TYPICALLY, WHEN REFUELING, UPON REACHING THE FULL LEVEL WITH THE FUEL PUMP NOZZLE IN THE AUTO SHUTOFF POSITION THE PUMP NOZZLE WILL SHUT OFF BUT GASOLINE WILL CONTINUE TO FLOW AND SPEW OUT OF THE FILL TUBE, DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR, ONTO THE GROUND AND ONTO ME. I'VE LEARNED TO MANUALLY STOP ADDING FUEL PRIOR TO THE FULL LEVEL TO AVOID THE RISKS THIS SITUATION PRESENTS. ON 11/22/2014 WITH THE FUEL TANK NEARLY EMPTY I ATTEMPTED TO REFUEL WITH FUEL NOZZLE IN AUTO POSITION FOR THE INITIAL FILL PERIOD. AFTER ADDING APPROXIMATELY 2 GALLONS GASOLINE BEGAN SPEWING OUT. TO STOP THE FLOW I HAD TO GRAB THE NOZZLE AND DISENGAGE THE LEVER MANUALLY AND IN THE PROCESS SOAKED MY HAND, ARM AND LOWER LEG WITH GASOLINE. I ATTEMPTED TO BEGIN REFUELING AGAIN WITH AN IDENTICAL OUT COME. I MOVED TO A DIFFERENT PUMP STATION AND TWICE ATTEMPTED TO FILL BY MANUALLY OPERATING THE NOZZLE LEVER. GASOLINE POURED AND SPEWED OUT BOTH TIMES. AFTER HAVING ADDED JUST 5 GALLONS TOTAL I STOPPED ATTEMPTING TO ADD FUEL. I AM NOW IN THE PROCESS OF FINDING SERVICE/REPAIR BEFORE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AGAIN AS I DON'T BELIEVE IT IS SAFE TO ADD FUEL IN CURRENT CONDITION. *TR

DRIVER SEAT BELT UNLATCHES FROM TIME TO TIME. I COULD BE JUST SITTING AT LIGHT, OR DRIVING DOWN ROAD AND IT JUST UNLATCHES. I PUT IT BACK ON, AND SOMETIMES IF IMMEDIATELY UNLATCHES AGAIN FOR NO REASON. I HAVE HAD TO KEEP DOING IT 5 OR MORE TIMES WITHIN 10-20 MINUTES. I WENT TO START MY JEEP AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. ALSO, IT SOMETIMES DOESN'T START, WHEN IT DOES AND I'M DRIVING, IT STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. MY GIRLFRIEND OF 21 YEARS, WENT INTO THE DOCTOR AND WHEN SHE CAME OUT HER JEEP LIBERTY WOULD START AND THEN STALL. SHE SAID THERE WAS CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. I GET THERE AND CALL AAA AND HAVE IT TOWED TO A PLUS TRANSMISSION AND AUTO REPAIR IN BRIGHTON MICHIGAN. THEY SAID THE ROCKER ARM CAME LOSE FROM THE ADJUSTER AND THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. NOT SO, TURNS OUT IT WAS A BROKEN VALVE SEAT ALSO THAT HAD DROPPED DOWN INTO THE CYLINDER CAUSING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. WE ARE LEFT WITH THE EXPENSE OF REPLACING THE ENGINE AT A COST TO US OF $5600.00. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE CHRYSLER 3.7 V6 ENGINE. IT HAPPENS JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. WITH TODAYS TECHNOLOGY I BELIEVE THAT ENGINE SHOULD HAVE HAD LASTED UP TO 200000 MILES. SINCE WE CANT AFFORD A NEW CAR THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN GO. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE JEEP ISSUED A RECALL ON (#L27), IN MARCH 05, 2012, FOR JEEP LIBERTY MY 2004 - 2007. CONTACTED JEEP RECALL HOTLINE AND THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE RECALL SINCE MY JEEP WAS BOUGHT IN KENTUCKY. RECALL IS ONLY VALID FOR JEEPS SOLD IN STATES NORTH OF KENTUCKY. ACCORDING TO RECALL FRACTURE IS LINKED TO THE EXCESSIVE CORROSION DUE TO THE APPLICATION OF ROAD SALTS DURING WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS. EVERY SINGLE TIME WE FILL UP THE CAR (NO TOPPING OFF), THE GAS SHOOTS OUT OF THE TANK BACK AT US. WE BOUGHT THIS USED CAR FOR HOPING IT WOULD BE RELIABLE, BUT THIS IS A RECURRING DANGEROUS PROBLEM. WE LOWER THE FLOW OF FUEL FROM THE PUMP, BUT IT STILL HAPPENS. VERY DANGEROUS! WE HAVE HEAD THAT THE PLASTIC O RING SWELLS WITH GASOLINE THAT CONTAINS ETHANOL AND FAILS TO CUT THE BACK FLOW OFF. AFTER A LONG WAIT BEING TOLD THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE I FINALLY GOT IT INTO A DEALER WHO TOLD ME THEY WERE UNABLE TO INSTALL THE TRAILER HITCH BECAUSE OF RUST AND THAT CHRYSLER STATES THAT IT IS A LEVEL 5 CORROSION SO THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE I NOTICED A RUMBLE NOISE WHILE CLIMBING A MODEST HILL. AN INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE REVEALED THAT THE REAR AXLE HAD MOVED FORWARD SEVERAL INCHES AND THE DRIVER REAR WHEEL HAD MOVED INTO A POSITION WHERE IT WAS CONTACTING THE INNER FENDER WHICH CAUSED THE NOISE. FURTHER INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE LEAD ME TO NOTICE THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM HAD FAILED DUE TO CORROSION WHICH ALLOWED AXLE TO MOVE FORWARD.
