TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 13V252000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE, STRUCTURE). HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIR FOR THREE MONTHS BECAUSE THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE.

I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS STARTING MY JEEP. EVERY TIME I HAVE THIS PROBLEM I TAKE IT TO DEALER TO FIND OUT IT IS THE SAME THING EVERYTIME. I'M TOLD IT IS THE IGNITION ACTUATOR SWITCH. THERE I'D A LITTLE PIN IN IT THAT IF YOU PUT YOUR KEY IN SLIGHTLY THE WRONG WAY YOU CAN BREAK ONE OF THOSE PINS. I HAVE HAD THIS FIXED AND THEN I HAVE NO PROBLEM STARTING MY JEEP FOR A WHILE. WELL THEN IT ALL HAPPENED AGAIN THE OTHER DAY. AGAIN IT WAS THE IGNITION ACTUATOR SWITCH. I HAVE READ A LOT OF PLACES AND MY DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE JEEPS. I REALLY FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PRODUCT AND A BETTER REPLACEMENT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE. I'M SICK OF SPENDING $100 ON THIS PART EVERY YEAR OR TWO. *TR

AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL GAUGE IS THAT WHENEVER I FILL UP I CAN DRIVE ABOUT 20 MILES (MORE OR LESS) AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE LIGHT AND GAS LIGHT COME ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE GOES ALL THE WAY TO EMPTY. WHICH CAN BE PRETTY SCARY THE FIRST TIME YOU SEE IT HAPPEN AND YOU'RE GOING 75 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. THE SECOND PROBLEM IS THE SUSPENSION. ANY TIME I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IT CREAKS. RIDING OVER EVEN BARELY BUMPY ROADS CAUSES MY CAR TO CREAK AND GROAN. IT SHAKES HORRIBLY WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 50-55 OR EVEN IDLING BUT GETS BETTER WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, APPLY THE BRAKES, OR GO AT HIGHER SPEEDS. *TR
SAFETY RECALL NOTICE N46 / NHTSA 13V-252 STATES THAT PARTS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE. THIS RECALL WAS ISSUED MONTHS AGO YET PARTS ARE (STILL) UNAVAILABLE. WE CONSIDER THIS TO BE A HIGH PRIORITY RECALL NOTICE SINCE IT RELATES TO DANGERS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FUEL TANK IN A REAR END ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED OUR DEALER TODAY AND AS OF JUNE 10TH 2014 PARTS ARE STILL UNAVAILABLE AND THERE IS NO TIME-FRAME GIVEN ON WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO CORRECT THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION. WE BELIEVE THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXPEDITED. *TR

I JUST REGISTERED A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY I WENT TO THE GAS STATION TO PURCHASE GASOLINE. THE FUEL TANK WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO PUMP FUEL INTO THE TANK. THE FUEL BACK LASHES AND SHOOT OUT OF THE TANK. IT TOOK 20 MINUTES TO PUMP 20.00 WORTH OF FUEL AT PUMPING .50 CENT WORTH AT A TIME THEN ALLOWING IT TO SETTLE. *TR
I OWN A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY CRD AND THIS WEEKEND I HAD TROUBLE WITH IT STARTING. WE PRIMED IT FROM THE FUEL FILTER AND IT FIRED UP. ON MY WAY TO TAKE IT HOME, THE JEEP STALLED 3 MORE TIMES. I TOOK IT IN TO THE SHOP TODAY, AND FOR ABOUT $400 IT WILL BE FIXED. THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING WENT BAD, THE FUEL FILTER IS BAD AND I HAD SOME WIRING GET FRIED IN THE PROCESS. I AM READING LOADS OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND STATING A FAULTY DESIGN FROM CHRYSLER. WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL THEN? I READ ON A FEW THAT MENTIONED THE RESULTS OF THIS FIX, THAT IT'S BEEN REDESIGNED AND THEY ARE HAVING NO MORE TROUBLE. I HOPE THAT IT THE CASE FOR ME TOO, AND BELIEVE THIS WOULD BE AN IMPORTANT RECALL AS THIS CAN CAUSE FIRE AND ACCIDENTS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN A BUSY HIGHWAY THE STEERING BECOMES HEAVY AND SOME FLUID SPLASHED ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND SUDDENLY LOST STEERING AND GEARING .I FORCED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER AND STEPPED OUT OF IT TO CHECK WHAT WENT WRONG. THERE WAS NO LIGHT INDICATOR OR OVERHEATING. AS SOON AS I STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR IT STARTS ROLLING BACKWARD, SO IT LOST BRAKING AS WELL..I WAS PANICKING AND PICTURING HOW MANY ACCIDENTS AND TOLL DEATH WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE SCENE. ONE MOVING CAR HAD COLLIDED WITH MY VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS ROLLING BACKWARD AND TWO PEOPLE GOT INJURED. THE POLICE HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED AND MY JEEP GOT TOWED AS IT IS NOT DRIVABLE. I HAVE CONTACT CHRYSLER AND THEY RETURN MY CALL AND PROMISE TO SEND THEIR ENGINEER TO INVESTIGATE AND FIND OUT WHAT WENT WRONG WITHOUT WARRING AND IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A TOTAL DISASTER ON 95 NORTH . *TR
WHEN DRIVING FASTER THAN 15 MPH, WHEN I WOULD TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR OR BRAKE, THE CAR WOULD SWERVE VIOLENTLY AND RANDOMLY TO THE RIGHT OR THE LEFT EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V085000, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. *TR
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP TWICE. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN 2006 AT AROUND 27,000 MILES. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 55 WHEN IT WENT OUT MAY 10, 2014. I HAD ABOUT 101,900 MILES THIS TIME. I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SPILLING OUT OF THE TANK WHEN FUELING UP. I NEVER REPORTED THIS BECAUSE I DIDN'T REALIZE THIS WAS A COMMON JEEP PROBLEM.

NO ESTIMATED TIMEFRAME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE GIVEN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I JUST GOT SOME INFORMATION FROM A FRIEND THAT MY JEEP WAS ON A RECALL. *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V288000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, YEARS LATER, THE BALL JOINTS FAILED ON THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BALL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, A YEAR LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THE DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS CAR. I HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE HAVING A RECALL AND PARTS NOT BEING AVAILABLE TO FIX IT. ALSO THIS VEHICLE HAS A BROKEN WINDOW REGULATOR ON THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR. FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THIS PART MULTIPLE TIMES. I THINK THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONSUMER. SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY NOT WORKING IF THIS HAS TO BE REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. *TR
ACCORDING TO NHTSA, THIS VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO A VOLUNTARY RECALL (N46/NHTSA 13V-252) THAT WAS TO COMMENCE IN JULY 2013. I RECEIVED A LETTER CONFIRMING THIS FROM THE MANUFACTURER OVER TWO MONTHS AGO THAT SAID I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN THE PART TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WAS AVAILABLE. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER TWICE AND NO ONE CAN SAY WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. SINCE THE PART TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WAS A FACTORY AND/OR DEALER INSTALLED OPTION WHEN THIS CAR WAS BUILT, AND SINCE THERE ARE MANY MANUFACTURERS WITH SIMILAR PARTS, I CAN ONLY CONCLUDE THAT THE UNREASONABLE DELAY APPEARS TO BE INTENTIONAL. THE LONGER CHRYSLER WAITS, THE FEWER JEEPS WILL NEED TO BE REPAIRED. OF COURSE, EACH DAY WITHOUT REPAIR PRESENTS A SAFETY RISK THAT ALSO DECREASES THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE. *TR
PULLEY RUBBER SEPARATED BETWEEN THE HARMONIC BALANCER AND SERPENTINE PULLEY LEAVING ME WITH NO STEERING FORTUNATELY WE WERE WITHIN HALF A MILE OF HOME. *TR
A YEAR AGO, MY FUEL TANK STARTED TO INTERMITTENTLY OVERFLOW A HUGE PUDDLE OF GAS AT THE FILLING STATION WHEN I FILLED UP. NOW IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FUEL UP. I TOOK TO THE DEALER SATURDAY AND THEY SAID ITS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG CHEROKEES, BUT NOT LIBERTYS AND THERE IS NO RECALL FOR EITHER VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM IS A VALVE CLOG IN THE FUEL TANK. THE FIX IS AN $1800 NEW FUEL TANK. THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! THIS SEEMS TO BE A DANGEROUS PROBLEM GIVEN ALL THE FIRES AT GAS STATIONS RECENTLY. EVERY TIME I FILL UP I LEAVE A LARGE PUDDLE OF GAS ON THE GROUND, ALL OVER MY CAR AND HAVE TO RIDE WITH THE WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN FOR FIRST HALF HOUR AFTER FILLING. ONLY AFFORDABLE FIX IS TO NOT FILL, BUT THAT'S NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO GAUGE. SEEMS LIKE YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS JEEP-WIDE (AND I THINK CHRYSLER-WIDE) PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY THAT EVERY TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK UP IT DOES NOT SHUT THE GAS NOZZLE OFF AND ALWAYS BACK FLOWS OUT AND RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF MY JEEP. *TR
I WAS AT A FULL STOP AT A RED LIGHT, AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN. DURING THE TURN I HEARD A LOUD THUD FROM THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL AREA, AND THE BACK END OF THE CAR SHIMMIED A LITTLE BIT. I PULLED INTO A SHOPPING CENTER ABOUT A 1/8 MILE AWAY, PARKED MY VEHICLE, AND GOT OUT TO INSPECT THE AREA I HEARD THE NOISE COME FROM. MY LOWER CONTROL ARM HAD ALMOST COMPLETELY SNAPPED. I DECIDED TO INSPECT THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM, WHICH WAS CRACKING AS WELL. I DECIDED TO LOOK UP ANY RECALLS ON MY MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR, AS I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE AND FOUND THIS ODD. TURNS OUT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS, THE "L27" RECALL. I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS BY CHRYSLER. I CONTACTED THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION; ALSO, IF I REQUESTED THAT MY VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP, THERE WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL FEE. IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND IT WAS CONFIRMED TO BE THE RECALL. I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY OTHER RECALLS, AND I WAS TOLD BY THE SALES REP THAT THERE IS ANOTHER RECALL, THIS ONE CONCERNING THE FUEL TANK, WHICH CHRYSLER WOULD INSTALL A FREE TRAILER HITCH FOR TO PROTECT IT FROM REAR END COLLISIONS. THE REP THEN INFORMS ME "BUT WE DON'T HAVE THOSE PARTS, NO ONE REALLY HAS THEM, SO WE AREN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW". HITS ME FOR A $4,400 QUOTE FOR OTHER THINGS THEY FOUND WRONG. I HAD MY CAR THERE FOR A WEEK, AND I HAD TO PAY FOR MY RENTAL CAR. I WAS TOLD BY CHRYSLER THAT IT IS UP TO THE DEALERSHIP TO OFFER HELP WITH THAT, WHICH THIS ONE DOESN'T. I TOLD THEM THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY $350 EXTRA TO COVER A RENTAL BECAUSE OF A RECALL THAT IS THEIR BRAND'S FAULT AND RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR. I AM LUCKY I WASN'T ON A HIGHWAY. BOTH CHRYSLER AND DEALERSHIP REFUSE TO PAY FOR RENTAL CAR. *TR

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY AND HAVE FOUND THAT IT DOES NOT STOP WHEN FULL WHEN I ADD GAS. I'VE HAD TO REFILL THE CAR ABOUT 5 TIMES SINCE I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE AND IT OVERFLOWS EVERY SINGLE TIME, SPLASHING ON THE GROUND AND ONTO ME, CREATING DANGEROUS PUDDLES AND A FIRE HAZARD TO EVERYONE AROUND. IT DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF LIKE ALL OTHER CARS DO BUT COMPLETELY BYPASSES THE SAFETY SHUT OFF LIKE IT SHOULD WHEN ITS NEARING FULL. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER JEEP OWNERS WHO HAVE THIS EXACT PROBLEM BUT THERE IS NO OFFICIAL RECALL FROM JEEP ABOUT IT. I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER PICKING UP MY KIDS FROM SCHOOL AND NOTICED THAT MY BACK END WAS SWAYING SLIGHTLY. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE FROM A WET ROAD SURFACE BUT THEN NOTICED A CRACK AND GROAN WHEN I DROVE UP MY CURB ON TO MY DRIVEWAY. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT MY PASSENGER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND MY REAR AXLE WAS SLIGHTLY SKEWED WITH THE PASSENGER TIRE SLID FORWARD IN THE WHEEL WELL. I NOTICED THAT CHRYSLER HAD A RECALL FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM (SAFETY RECALL L27/NHTSA 12V-085 REAR SUSPENSION LOWER CONTROL ARMS) BUT MINE WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE I DON'T LIVE IN A 'SALT BELT' STATE.
