TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V668000 (AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
DRIVING ON DIRT ROAD AT APPX 7,000 FT, TEMP APPX 58DEG, SLIGHTLY HILLY. ACCELERATOR CUT OUT AND TACH WENT TO 3,000, SPEED REMAINED CONSTANT AT AROUND 30 MPH, FLOORED PEDAL AND THEN PUT TOE UNDER IT AND PULLED BACK BOTH WITH NO EFFECT. TRANNY GEAR INDICATOR SAID 6, HIT BRAKE AND SLOWED DOWN BUT NO EFFECT ON RPM, SHIFTED GEAR SHIFT LEFT THREE TIMES AND RPM DROPPED TO 800, USED MANUAL SHIFTING ABOUT NEXT THREE MILES. PULLED OFF TO SIDE AND TURNED OFF ENGINE. RESTARTED AND EVERY THING WAS NORMAL. SECOND OCCURANCE OF SAME PROBLEM.
ON MARCH 8 2016 AT 2.00 AM I WAS GOING TO PICK UP MY DAUGHTER FROM WORK AND WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE OVER 40 MILES. I TRY TO PICK UP. SPEED AND IT SOUND LIKE THE ENGINE WAS FALLING APART I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED I EXITED OFF THE EXPRESSWAY DROVE HOME ON THE SIDE STREET AND CALLED A FAMILY MEMBER FOR A RIDE I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED I AM GOING TO CALL THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND GET THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BECAUSE THIS CAR IS NOT EVEN 2 YEARS OLD.
WATER LEAKS FROM THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD AND, IF IT IS RAINING HARD ENOUGH, INTO AND OUT OF THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS, WHICH IS WORRISOME BECAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL FACTOR. WE NOTICED THE LEAKAGE AFTER GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH 2 DAYS AFTER PURCHASING OUR USED JEEP. WE BROUGHT IT IN FOR REPAIRS AND IT SEEM LIKE IT WAS FIXED FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS UNTIL IT RAINED HEAVILY AND WE NOTICED WATER STREAMING IN, YET AGAIN. WE HAVE ALSO SINCE NOTICED THE FLOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE GETS SOAKED AFTER IT RAINS AS WELL AND WE DON'T KNOW WHERE THAT IS COMING FROM. IT SEEMS OVERALL THAT OUR JEEPS SEALANTS ARE VERY FAULTY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE ETC WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. IN ADDITION, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
NORTHERN MINNESOTA - THE SIDE WINDOWS COMPLETELY FROST OVER MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE. I HAVE TO SCRAPE THE WINDOWS TO SEE OUT AT INTERSECTIONS. THE WINDSHIELD ITSELF WILL ONLY DEFROST 70%. I HAVE TO USE EITHER FULL DEFROST MODE -- LEAVING MY FEET TO FREEZE -- OR ALTERNATE BETWEEN 50/50 FEET/DEFROST AND FULL DEFROST. I HAVE TRIED CRACKING THE WINDOWS OR TURNING ON THE AC WITH HEAT BUT TO NO AVAIL. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION. THE WINDOWS OFTEN FREEZE SHUT SO IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO WIND THE WINDOW DOWN AT INTERSECTIONS EITHER. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ALL WINTER. TODAY IT WAS -5 DEGREES HERE AND THE COLDER IT IS THE WORSE THE FROST OVER ON THE WINDOWS IS. I CAN NOT SEE AT ALL OUT OF EITHER THE DRIVERS OR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS.
LEAKS WATER FROM OUT OF HEADLINER IN REAR HATCH AREA AFTER RAIN
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH 34, 000 MILES DEC 2015. IT RAN WELL UNTIL 3000 MI INTO DRIVING IT, SOME DAYS IT WOULD NOT START. IT WOULD TAKE ME MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS OF TURNING THE IGNITION......NO CRANKING .....JUST NOTHING. SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY SAID IT STARTED FINE, NO PROBLEMS. WELL IT CONTINUED TO OCCUR WITHOUT ANY NOTICE AND I RETURNED TO THE DEALER 5000 MI. LATER AND THEY SAID FOR AN XTRA $40.00 THEY COULD PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST! I EXPLAINED I FELT THEY SHOULD DO THAT AT THEIR EXPENSE SINCE I ONLY BOUGHT THE CAR IN DEC. THEY DECLINED AND SAID IF I WERE CHANGE MY MIND THEY WOULD RUN A TEST.....6 MONTHS LATER THE CAR SOMETIMES STARTS AND NOW ITS LOOSING POWER ON HILLS AND HIGHWAY.....POOR PICKUP....IM FEDUP AND READY TO SELL THIS VEHICLE AND I HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS CAR THAT IM PAYING FOR AND CANT EVEN DEPEND ON IT.
MY CAR WOULD NOT START, THERE WAS STILL POWER TO THE LIGHTS AND RADIO. MY JEEP HAS ONLY 20,673 MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN DECEMBER 2013. IT IS STILL UNDER MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE CLOSEST CHRYSLER DEALER. SAN LEANDRO CHRYSLER IS WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND HAVE IT SERVICED REGULARLY. I PURCHASED THE SERVICE CONTRACT FROM THE DEALER. THEY TOOK 5 BUSINESS DAYS TO LOOK AT IT. I HAD TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. THE SERVICE TECH DETERMINED IT WAS THE WCM WAS NON RESPONSIVE. THEY SAID SINCE I HAD AN AFTERMARKET ALARM THE WARRANTY WAS VOID. I HAD THE ALARM INSTALLED BY AN ALARM SPECIALIST. THEY CHARGED ME $185 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC, AND MY CAR STILL DID NOT WORK. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR WCM. IT TURNS OUT THIS PROBLEM GOES BACK TO 2008 IN JEEP, CHRYSLER AND DODGE VEHICLES. ONE OF THE FORUMS RECOMMENDED I DISCONNECT THE BATTERY OR A CERTAIN FUSE. I DID THAT, THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP ! I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE SAID THAT HE WAS NOT GOING TO REFUND MY MONEY. THIS WCM CAN ONLY BE INSTALLED BY A DEALER BECAUSE IT HAS TO MATCH THE VIN #. THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED ! YOUR VEHICLE COULD JUST TURN OFF WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING IT !
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION COMBINED IMPACT OF ABOUT 40 MPH. DRIVER ENDED UP OUT OF SEAT DRAPED OVER STEERING WHEEL. PHYSICAL EXAM OF DRIVER SHOWED BRUISE ON LEFT CLAVICLE AREA INDICATING SHOULDER STRAP WAS IN USE. DRIVER SUFFERED SEVERE CONTUSION AND POSSIBLE FRACTURE OF STERNUM. INCIDENT TOOK PLACE ON DECEMBER 3RD, 2015. ACCIDENT REPORT AVAILABLE FROM WAUKESHA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT. INTERSECTION OF ELMHURST AND NORTHVIEW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD, BACK, SHOULDER, AND NECK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
FIRST DAY ,I DROVE OUT OF DEALER,WITH MY NEW JEEP PATRIOT,A ROLLING NOISE WAS COMING FROM MY WHEELS,NEVER IN OTHER AUTOS I HERD,SUCH A LOUD BEARING NOISE,AS I DRIVE. I THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL,BUT I HAD TO CLOSE MY WINDOWS,THINKING THAT IT WILL HELP. AS TIME GOES,WITH 30,000 MILES IS GETTING WORSE!,IT SOUNDS LIKE A THOUS OLD METAL SKATE BOARDS,WITH METAL ROLLING WHEEL BEARINGS. I TURNED OFF MY ENGINE,I PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL,COAST DOWN IN A DOWN SLOPED STREET,AND THE LAUD BEARING NOISE IS THERE. I JACK MY CAR UP,WITH MY FLOOR JACK,PUT STANDS,TURNED WHEELS BY HAND ,NO BEARING NOISE!.START ENGINE,WHILE IN JACKS,PUT IN DRIVE,NOISE AND JERK AT 25 MPH.
At long rides in hot weather traveling over 65 miles a hour car slows down to a sto was in fast lane at time had to put hazards on to make to shoulder a message on dashboard lights up red circle with ! Inside of circle looked on manual its marked as transmission overheat when vehicle cools down can start driving again I've brought to dealer in NJ and fla for problem mechanics state can't duplicate message so did unwanted repairs when today 10/30/2023 after complaining to Chrysler now they can dupicate message and states theres a problem with transmission this problem had been with me since I brought car in 2014 i looked online and have seen many complaints about the cvt transmission my car is at dealer now with price tag of 9000 to repair please help me get my repairs
I WAS ON A 300 MILE ROAD TRIP. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON AROUND 70-73 MPH AND DRIVING ON FAIRLY LEVEL ROAD (NO HILLS). THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED AND THE ENGINE RPM WENT UP BETWEEN 4500-5000. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT DOWN SHIFT AUTOMATICALLY. I HAD TO TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND SLOW DOWN FOR IT TO SHIFT. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES ON THE TRIP. THERE IS LESS THAN 25000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THINKING SERIOUSLY ABOUT GETTING RID OF THIS VEHICLE BEFORE I GET STUCK WITH IT.
A GOOD YEAR EAGLE TIRE EXPLODED. THESE TIRES WERE ON MY JEEP WHEN I BOUGHT IT 2 YEARS AGO. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES TO MANY DRIVERS. TWO OF THE TIRE DEALERS IN MY AREA REFUSE TO SELL THAT MODEL TIRE DUE TO SUCH PROBLEMS. I HAVE CONTACTED BRIGHTON CHRYSLER IN BRIGHTON MICHIGAN TO ALERT THEM TO THE PROBLEM. I HAVE AS YET TO CALL CHRYSLER OR GOOD YEAR, BUT I INTEND TO FIND OUT WHO PUT THESE TIRES ON MY CAR, AND REPORT THIS PROBLEM. THIS COULD CAUSE INJURIES OR DEATH AND RESULT IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. THERE ARE A GREAT MANY REVIEWS ON THE INTERNET REPORTING PROBLEMS WITH GOOD YEAR TIRES OF THIS, AND OTHER MODELS.
MY CAR HAS STALLED COMPLETELY OVER A DOZEN TIMES WHILE DRIVING OR EVEN JUST FROM BEING PARKED AND TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WAS AFTER I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I TURNED ON MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND MOVED TO THE LEFT SHOULDER. THANKFULLY OTHER VEHICLES REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND LET ME MOVE OUT OF THE WAY. I COULD'VE HURT SOME ONE ELSE OR MYSELF. I WAS PARKED FOR 5 MINUTES WHEN I TRIED TO START IT AGAIN BUT THE CAR WAS HESITANT. I TRIED AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE FREEWAY SAFELY AND IT SHUT OFF AGAIN A FEW MILES FROM THERE. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY STATED THAT THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES AND THAT THE CAR WAS OKAY. NOW AGAIN ON OCT 8TH 2015 IT DID IT AGAIN WILL DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. AFTER LETTING IT SIT I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME AND AFTER 20 MINUTES I DROVE IT TO THE DEALER AND IT STALLED AGAIN DOWN THE STREET FROM THE DEALER. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED IN CASE THERE WERE ERROR CODES ON THE SOFTWARE. THEY'VE HAD MY CAR FOR 4 DAYS AND THEY HAVE ALREADY CALLED THAT THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES. THEY HAVE HAD TECHNICIANS TRY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BOTH TIMES BUT NO LUCK. I REFUSE TO DRIVE THE CAR. I WILL NOT PUT MY LIFE OR ANY ONE ELSE IN DANGER.

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL COVER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED A PUDDLE OF OIL ON THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.

VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING ON HW THEN CAR WAS SHIFTING CHECKED AND FOUND TIE ROD END WAS LOSE ALMOST GOING TO BRAKE HAVING LOSE TIE ROD PUT THE LIFE OF DRIVER AND ALL IN THE CAR AT HIGH RISK I CAME TO KNOW THAT THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM IN JEEP CARS
FOR THE FOURTH TIME, WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON HWAY AT 65 TO 70 MILES PER HOUR, OVERHEAT LAMP GOES ON EVEN THOUGH GAGE DOES NOT RISE AND CAR STARTS TO SLOW DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN ACCELERATION IS ATTEMPTED THE VEHICLE MAKES A LOUD WINDING SOUND AND SLOWS DOWN TO LESS THAN 20 MPH. EVENTUALLY ACCELERATION DOES NOT MATTER AS VEHICLE MOVES NO MORE THAN 20 MPH AND WE HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE FOR 30 OR MORE MINUTES. WHEN WE START THE VEHICLE AGAIN, THE VEHICLE STARTS AGAIN WITHOUT ISSUE. WE ALSO HAVE THE LOW TIRE SIGNAL GO ON REGARDLESS OF WHETHER TIRES ARE INFLATED.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME THROUGH PA, MY CAR'S TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I LOST SPEED, HORSEPOWER, AND TORQUE; I STRUGGLED TO MAKE IT UP HILL (DIDN'T GO PASS 40 MPH), WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY CARS BEHIND ME. I PULLED OVER AND LET MY CAR REST FOR 30 MINUTES AND MADE IT HOME AT 65 MPH. I NORMALLY TRAVEL ANYWHERE BETWEEN 70 & 75 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP IN WHEELING, WV THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. THE SERVICE DEPT. TOLD ME THERE WERE NO RECORDED MESSAGES (CODES) IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AND, THEREFORE, NO SERVICE WAS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE. THE TECH EVEN INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM HE SEES, BUT CHRYSLER HASN'T FIXED IT AND HOPES THERE'S A RECALL. FAST-FORWARD TO AUGUST 31ST, 2015, I ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM TWICE WHILE DRIVING HOME THROUGH OH. I HAD AUTOZONE RUN A DIAGNOSTIC AND AGAIN, NO RECORDED CODES IN THE SYSTEM. I SEE A MECHANIC TOMORROW (FRIDAY, SEPT. 4TH) AND JEEP ON AUGUST 10TH. I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON VARIOUS FORUMS AND YOUTUBE (HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=VNKEZT0MR-4; HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=3-4STCTCGKW). AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REOCCURRING ISSUE WITH JEEP, DODGE, AND CHRYSLER FOR A LONG TIME. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN REPORTING THIS ISSUE AND TAKING IT TO THEIR LOCAL DEALERSHIP WITH NO SERVICE. THERE'S A PROBLEM HERE AND CHRYSLER HAS KNOWN THIS FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

AFTER A STORM I GOT INTO MY NEW 2014 JEEP PATRIOT WHICH ONLY HAS 8,000 MILES ON IT AND I NOTICED THAT MY DOME LIGHT ABOVE THE CD PLAYER IN THE HEADLINER WAS COMPLETELY FULL OF WATER. I WAS UNABLE TO TAKE IT OUT SO I HAD TO DRIVE HOME LIKE THAT AND EVERYTIME I WENT AROUND A CURVE WATER GUSHED OUT OF MY DOME LIGHT ALL OVER ME AND MY DASH AND CD PLAYER. THEN ANOTHER DAY IT WAS RAINING AND I WAS DRIVING THE JEEP AND WATER DROPLETS KEPT FALLING FROM THE HEADLINER/LIGHT AREA. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE HAD TO TAKE THE HEADLINER DOWN AND WORK ON IT FOR OVER 2 WEEKS TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,500.
TRAVELING EAST ON HY89 AT APPROX 08:30 WITH CC SET AT 70. ON 6% UPHILL GRADE RPM DROPPED TO 2300 AND SPEED TO ABOUT 35, PRESSED ACCELER AND FUEL SHUT OFF. CAR HAS AUTO TRANS WITH CVT TRANS. MADE SAME TRIP SEVERAL TIMES PRIOR WITH RPM AROUND 3500 AND SPEED ABOUT 60 IN SAME SPOTS.
A LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR STARTS SLOWING DOWN SO YOU MUST PULL OVER UNTIL THE LIGHT GOES OUT, BUT IT HAPPENS AGAIN AND AGAIN. IT IS SO DANGEROUS TO BE STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE CAR MANY TIMES AND SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY. IT IS LIKE OWNING A GOLF CART. OUR SEAT BELT LIGHT STARTED TO MESS UP IN JUNE 2015, WE TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND AFTER THEY TRIED TWO SWITCHES I WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD NOT BE FIXED AND THAT ALL 2014 JEEP PATRIOTS DO THIS! IF YOU PULL THE SEAT BELT OUT AN INCH FROM HOME POSITION THE LIGHT GOES OFF, WHEN YOU ACTUALLY HAVE IT CLICKED IT WILL STILL BEEP AT YOU TELLING YOU THAT YOUR NOT WEARING YOUR SEAT BELT! WE HAVE ONLY HAD THIS JEEP SINCE FEB. 2014 AND PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW! IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION ON BASE, SO TECHNICALLY WE ARE NOT EVEN SUPPOSE TO BE DRIVING THIS UNSAFE JEEP THAT CAN'T BE FIXED! THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH METAL CHROMED LUG NUT COVERS WHICH ARE PRESSED ONTO THE LUG NUTS. TWICE NOW AFTER A TIRE ROTATION AND HAVING ALL 4 WHEELS REMOVED AND REINSTALLED THESE LUG NUT CAPS HAVE COME FLYING OFF. ONCE WHEN SPEEDS WERE 45MPH+ THE OTHER AT 70MPH. DUE TO HAVING MY ARM OUT THE WINDOW I WAS STRUCK BY ONE OF THESE CAPS AND WAS CUT AND BRUISED. DEALER HAS REPLACED THE AFFECTED LUG NUTS BUT THEY ARE REPLACING THEM WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE LUG NUTS USED AT THE FACTORY. 2 TIMES NOW AFTER TIRE ROTATION THIS HAS OCCURRED WHERE SEVERAL OF THESE CAPS HAVE COME FLYING OFF OF THE VEHICLE. DEALER KEEPS REPLACING THEM AND I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER TO INFORM THEM OF THE ISSUE AND DESIRE TO HAVE THE LUG NUTS REPLACED WITH SOLID NUTS. CHRYSLER AND THE DEALER HAVE SO FAR REFUSED TO REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE LUG NUTS WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE SAME FAULTY ONES. AS THESE ARE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AT HIGH SPEEDS THE CONCERN IS THAT BYSTANDERS COULD BE SEVERELY INJURED IF STRUCK BY ONE OF THESE CAPS, AND OR SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO OTHER VEHICLES, OR PROPERTY.
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AROUND 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, VEHICLE STOPPED PULLING AND ENGINE RPM SHOT UP OVER 6 ON THE NEEDLE. IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN 4 MONTHS.

I CONTACTED CHRYSLER TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE RECALL AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR MY JEEP. I EXPLAINED THAT NHTSA HAD THE RECALL INFORMATION ON THEIR WEB SITE, AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT IS NOT THE NHTSA WHO PUTS RECALLS. RECALLS ARE VIN SPECIFIC. I'M A LITTLE BAFFLE BY THE WOMAN AT CHRYSLER'S COMMENT, DUE TO THE FACT THAT SHE HAS NO IDEA OF WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH MY VEHICLE. I THANK THE WOMAN AND STATED THAT I HONESTLY HOPE THE INFORMATION GIVEN IS CORRECT AND THAT I AM SAFE ON THE ROADS. PERSONALLY I DON'T TRUST THE MANUFACTURES DUE TO HAVING PAST RECALLS ON VEHICLES AND RECIEVING NO NOTIFICATION. I WORK FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WITH ONE OF OUR SHARED FLEET VEHICLES. ON 5/11/15, I WAS DRIVING A 2014 JEEP PATRIOT FROM PITTSBURGH, PA TO ERIE, PA ON INTERSTATE 79 NORTH. APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 HOURS INTO THE TRIP, I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE AND ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER CAR. I NOTICED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS QUICKLY LOSING POWER. I WAS UNABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD ON THE LEFT DUE TO AN EMBANKMENT. AFTER SEVERAL CARS AND TRACTOR TRAILERS HAD TO BRAKE AND SWERVE TO PASS ME ON THE RIGHT, I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD JUST BEFORE IT STOPPED COMPLETELY. I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CALLED FOR A TOW.

IN MARCH, TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED WHILE ON HIGHWAY, LOST SPEED VERY QUICKLY. TOOK VEHICLE IN, TRANSMISSION FILL TUBE WAS MISSING AND THEN REPLACED. OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, I NOTICED EXTREMELY LOUD WHINING NOISES COMING FROM VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. FUEL MILEAGE IS EXTREMELY LOW. IN JULY, THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED AGAIN, TOOK IT IN TO DEALERSHIP WITH NO DIAGNOSIS, OPENED UP A STAR CASE WITH FIAT-CHRYSLER, AFTER 2 WEEKS, NO DIAGNOSIS, PICKED UP THE VEHICLE, DROVE IT FOR 1 WEEK AND TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED WITH A CRACK IN TRANSMISSION FILL TUBE AGAIN. THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATS AND DOES NOT REPORT A REPAIR CODE TO THE MAIN COMPUTER IN THE VEHICLE AND THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT REPAIR IT WITHOUT. VEHICLE HAS BROKEN DOWN MULTIPLE TIMES ON HIGHWAY DUE TO TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING.
I HAVE A 2014 JEEP PATRIOT THAT I PURCHASED IN DEC 2013. I KEEP EXPERIENCING THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING THAT LOTS OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT. IT NEVER HAPPENED AFTER THAT LAST YEAR, BUT I NEVER REALLY WENT ON ANY MORE TRIPS. YESTERDAY, ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK, GOING TO DOWN A MAJOR INTERSTATE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, MY "TRANSMISSION TEMP LIGHT" CAME ON AND I LOST ALL POWER PRETTY MUCH AND HAD TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE I IMPAIRED TRAFFIC. SINCE MARCH OF 2015 THE CAR HAS EXPERIENCED 43 NON-STARTS. WHEN YOU INSERT THE KEY AND TURN IT TO START THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENS IS THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON. I HAD JUST EXITED THE HIGHWAY WHEN I SAW SPARKS FROM THE TAIL END OF MY JEEP. I THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD THROWN OUT A CIGARETTE, BUT THEN I SAW MORE SPARKS FLY. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY INTO A GAS STATION. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, WHICH HAD STARTED TO SMOKE FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES THE WHOLE HOOD WAS ENGULFED IN SMOKE AND IT WAS COMING IN TO THE INSIDE OF THE JEEP THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. I CALLED MY BROTHER FOR HELP. WHEN HE GOT THERE WAS STILL SMOKE, BUT HE LOOKED THROUGH THE GRILL OF THE JEEP AND THAT'S WHEN HE SAW FLAMES. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 AND WITHIN MINUTES THE FIREFIGHTERS WERE THERE AND HOSED DOWN UNDER THE HOOD. I RENTED A 2014 JEEP PATRIOT FROM ONE OF THE RENTAL CAR COMPANIES ON FEB 17 2015 AND USED IT FOR ABOUT FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT HAPPENED. ON FEB 22 , I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON I-5 GOING SOUTH. I MADE AN EXIT AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS ON THE FREEWAY TO REFUEL WHICH I DID. IT WAS BRIGHT SUNNY DAY THE TIME WAS AROUND NOON. I MOVED AWAY FROM THE GAS PUMP AND WANTED TO PARK IT BEHIND THE GAS STATION. I FOUND A SPACE BETWEEN TWO CARS AND AS I WAS SLOWLY MOVING TOWARDS THE PARKING SPACE THE CAR ACCELERATED AT AN INCREDIBLE SPEED, BROKE INTO A FENCE OF A PRIVATE RESIDENCE, THEN HIT A PLAY HOUSE (FOR CHILDREN) AND LANDED IN THE SWIMMING POOL. BECAUSE OF MY IGNORANCE ABOUT SUCH INCIDENCES WHEREBY CARS SELF-ACCELERATE, I THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE ACCIDENTALLY STEPPED ON THE GAS AND WHEN THE POLICE ARRIVED AT THE SCENE AND ASKED ME WHAT HAPPENED, I SAID, "MAY BE I STEPPED ON THE GAS". UPON DISCUSSING THIS MATTER WITH FRIENDS AND CHECKING ON THE INTERNET, I DISCOVERED THAT CARS ACCELERATED ON THEIR OWN FROM TIME TO TIME. I HAVE NO DOUBT IN MY MIND NOW THAT THE JEEP PATRIOT JUST DID THAT. I HAVE OVER 40 YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND I DON'T REMEMBER A SINGLE INSTANCE WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL WHILE TRYING TO BRING A CAR TO A STOP. THE RENTAL CAR COMPANY SAID THAT THEY HAD THE CAR INSPECTED AND SENT ME A LETTER THEY RECEIVED FROM THE MANUFACTURER STATING THEY DID NOT FIND ANY MALFUNCTION PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT THE SIDE AIR DEPLOYED SENDING A SHARP METAL OBJECT UNDER HIS LEFT ARM SEVERING HIS ARTERY, WHICH CAUSED HIM TO BLEED OUT AND DIED. UPON BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I NOTICED A VIBRATION AND RELATED NOISE COMING FROM BEHIND THE FIREWALL OF MY JEEP; HOWEVER, AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL WHILE SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE THE NOISE WENT AWAY. UPON PLACING THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND ACCELERATING TO 5-10 MILES AN HOUR THE VIBRATION AND NOISE, WHICH I CAN ONLY DESCRIBE AS A IDLING MOTORCYCLE RETURNS. IF THE JEEP IS TRAVELING AT A SPEED UNDER 20 MPH OR SITTING IN DRIVE AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN THIS ISSUE IS PRESENT. WITHIN ABOUT A WEEK OF THIS HAPPENING, THE JEEP HAD ISSUES STARTING. ONCE THE KEY WAS PLACED IN THE IGNITION AND AN ATTEMPT TO START THE CARE WAS MADE, THE ENGINE HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING. IT WOULD ENGINE WOULD TURNOVER SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WOULD FINALLY START. I CAN ONLY DESCRIBE IT AS THE SAME EXPERIENCE AN INDIVIDUAL WOULD EXPERIENCE WHEN STARTING A CAR AFTER REPLACING THE CARBURETOR. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE JEEP WILL STALL WITHOUT ABY EXPLANATION. OF COURSE, WHEN IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY ARE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND EXPLAIN THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
REAR DRUM BRAKES SQUEAL WHEN BACKING UP AND SOMETIMES WHEN APPLYING BRAKES WHILE DRIVING FORWARD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE AND THEY SAID IT MIGHT BE DUE TOP DUST BUILD UP IN THE DRUM. THEY CLEANED AND INSPECTED THE REAR DRUMS AND SAID THEY WERE IN GOOD SHAPE. WITHIN AN HOUR OR SO THE SQUEALING CONTINUED. A FEW DAYS LATER I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE JEEP CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THEY INSPECTED THE REAR DRUM BRAKES AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THEM. NOTHING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR FIXED. I WAS TOLD BY THE JEEP SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT DRUM BRAKES SQUEALING/SQUEAKING IS NORMAL. I AM HAVING A HARD TIME ACCEPTING THIS ANSWER. I CAN'T BELIEVE JEEP WOULD PRODUCE A CAR WITH BRAKES WHERE SQUEALING/SQUEAKING IS NORMAL!! I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW FROM A DEALERSHIP ON 11/01/14. ON 11/28/14 I WANTED TO DRIVE IT BUT IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK INTO ANY GEAR. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY TOWED IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CHECKED THE GEARSHIFT AND IT SHIFTED EVERY TIME FOR THEM. THEY TOLD ME TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE, WHICH I DID. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED A SECOND TIME ON 01/02/15. IT WAS AGAIN TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIANS ALSO COULD NOT SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. THEY SERVICED THE VEHICLE FOR SEVEN DAYS. THEY CALLED ME AND SAID THEY REPLACED A SO-CALLED INTERLOCK CABLE AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER BECAUSE THE CABLE HAD A 'KINK' AND IT WAS CAUSING "BINDING". THEY SAID THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED AND FOR ME TO PICK IT UP, WHICH I DID. THE "MILEAGE OUT" WAS 231. SINCE THEN AND UP UNTIL TODAY, 02/27/15, I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN IT AN ADDITIONAL 57 MILES AND THAT INCLUDES THE 15 MILES DRIVEN BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I ONLY DRIVE IT VERY SHORT DISTANCES AND PARK IT IN AN OPEN SPACE THAT IS EASILY ACCESSIBLE TO A TOW TRUCK IN CASE THE PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN. MY WIFE IS RELUCTANT TO DRIVE IT AND I DON'T BLAME HER. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE 'KINKED' CABLE WAS NOT A RANDOM 'FLUKE' BUT, RATHER, THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE TOWING PROCESS WITH THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED IN PARK AND THE WHEELS BEING DRAGGED ALONG THE GROUND AND ONTO THE FLATBED TOW TRUCK BODY. I FEAR THAT THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM REMAINS WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. *TR
ON NOVEMBER 1, 2014 I PURCHASED A NEW JEEP PATRIOT FROM A CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALERSHIP. SHORTLY AFTER THAT I NOTICED THAT THE OWNER'S INFORMATION (A DVD OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND U.S. WARRANTY) AND THE USER GUIDE (AN ABRIDGED VERSION OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL) DID NOT MATCH MY VEHICLE IN MANY WAYS. ALSO AT THAT TIME I NOTICED THAT MY 2014 JEEP PATRIOT DID LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE 2015 PATRIOTS BEING SOLD, AND MATCHED THE 2015 PATRIOT OWNER'S INFORMATION. APPARENTLY CHRYSLER/JEEP STARTED MANUFACTURING 2015 PATRIOTS, BUT TITLING THEM AND SELLING THEM AS 2014 PATRIOTS, LONG BEFORE THE PUBLISHED MODEL YEAR CHANGEOVER DATE OF THE FIRST WEEK OF AUGUAT, 2014. HOWEVER THE OWNER'S MANUAL, USER GUIDE AND WARRANTY INFORMATION WERE NOT REVISED, EVEN DOWN TO THE OLDER PATRIOT MODEL COVER PAGE PICTURES! WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER/JEEP ABOUT THE ISSUES THEY SAID THAT THEY DEEMED THE VEHICLE TO BE A 2014 BECAUSE IT WAS MANUFACTURED BEFORE AUGUST AND THAT THE DIFFERENCES IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND USER GUIDE WERE NOT SIGNIFICANT. I WENT THROUGH THE 2014 AND 2015 OWNER'S MANUALS, COMPARING THEM PAGE-BY-PAGE AND COMPILED THREE PAGES OF OMISSIONS AND INACCURACIES, SOME SAFETY RELATED, IN THE UNREVISED 2014 OWNER'S MANUAL AND USER GUIDE. THOSE DIFFERENCES INCLUDED 12 MISSING WARNING! BLOCKS AND SIX MISSING CAUTION! BLOCKS IN THE UNREVISED 2014 OWNER'S MANUAL AND USER GUIDE. WARNINGS! ARE "AGAINST PROCEDURES THAT COULD RESULT IN A COLLISION OR BODILY INJURY". CAUTIONS! ARE "AGAINST PROCEDURES THAT COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLE...OBSERVE ALL WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS."
