The airbag clock spring has failed causing an airbag light and shut down of airbag system. The part, Airbag clock spring with speed control has been discontinued by Jeep and nobody makes the 2001-2002 clock springs aftermarket.
There is a known problem with the electrical wiring to the climate control panel including the blower motor fan switch. The wiring attached to the assembly gets too hot and melts the blower motor fan switch. When this happens, you are unable to turn on any heat/ac/air speeds. You are not able to select any speed to turn on the air which means you can’t use it to defrost the windshield. This can lead to a poor visibility situation. I am the original owner of my 2001 TJ and I’ve had to have this problem fixed multiple times. There are several videos & discussions about this problem in Jeep forums. Chrysler should’ve recalled it years ago..
MY JEEP WAS MAKING GRINDING SOUNDS WHEN I SHIFTED GEARS. AT FIRST IT WAS JUST A QUICK GRIND (METAL AGAINST METAL). THEN IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS THIS LAST WEEK WENT BY. IT BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE AND IT WOULD POP OUT OF GEAR UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD.LUCKILY I DIDN'T DRIVE IT MUCH. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID I WAS LUCKY- MY TRANSMISSION(?) WAS TILTED AND SITTING ON SOMETHING AND THAT WAS CAUSING THE NOISE (THE LUCK WAS THAT THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T FALL ALL THE WAY DOWN). THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM FROM PRESTIGE HI-TECH IS "CHECK FOR NOISE/ GRINDING IN DRIVETRAIN. FRAME BADLY RUSTED OUT, CROSS MEMBER UNDER TRANSFER CASE, BOLTS PULLED OUT OF RUSTED FRAME." I WAS THEN TOLD IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. VISUALLY IT IS IN GREAT CONDITION WITHOUT RUST ON THE BODY. PRESTIGE SAID BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME ARE RUSTED THROUGH BECAUSE OF POOR DESIGN. THERE WERE NO HOLES FOR TRAPPED WATER TO ESCAPE THROUGH.
FRAME ROTTED BY TRAIL ARMS AND CENTER BY SKID PLATE WHY DID CHRYSLER NEVER RECALL THESE FAULTY FRAMES?
SPONTANEOUS VEHICLE FIRE WHILE PARKED FOR TWO WEEKS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE'S FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRAME WAS NO LONGER BEING MANUFACTURED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
THE FRAME ROTTED OUT WHERE THE SUSPENSION CONNECT TO THE FRAME
DEFINITELY HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THE DEATH WOBBLE IN MY JEEP ALMOST CAUSING ME TO BE IN A CAR ACCIDENT. I FEEL THE PAIN IN BACK AND NECK. WILL HAVE TO GO TO DOCTORS TO GET THAT CHECKED. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 83 WHEN I HIT A BUMP ON THE ROAD NEAR CONSTRUCTION AREA WHEN JEEP BEGAN TO WOBBLE OUT OF CONTROL. LUCKILY ANOTHER JEEP ON THE ROAD SAW WHAT WAS GOING ON AND MADE SPACE FOR ME TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY. I CALLED THE TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED. *DSY
ENTIRE FRAME IS RUSTED CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO FALL OUT. ALMOST MADE MY SON CRASH INTO A TREE AFTER LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
FRAME ROTTING FROM INSIDE OUT.THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY CONCERN.THIS IS A PROBLEM RELATED TO CERTAIN YEARS OF WRANGLERS. THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM SHOULD RESULT IN A RECALL AS HAS BEEN WITH OTHER MANUFACTURERS WITH SAME PROBLEM TO RESOLVE THIS VERY UNSAFE CONDITION.

FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED ONLY 90K MILES. THE TRANSMISSION DROPPED BECAUSE THE STRUCTURE HOLDING IT UP WAS BOLTED TO THE FRAME AND BECAUSE THE ENTIRE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED IT CANT BE FIXED. ITS SO BAD A NO BODY SHOP WILL FIX IT, RUST KIT IS NO HELP WITH HOW BAD THIS FRAME IS RUSTED. THIS IS COMPLETELY RIDICULES THAT A FRAME IS THIS BADLY RUSTED AT 90K MILES.
I WAS DRIVING WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON WHEN I SMELLED BURNING PLASTIC, THEN SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE AIR VENTS. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE AIR CONDITIONER AND GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT 15 MIN THE SMELL DISSIPATED AND I CONTINUED ON WITHOUT THE AIR CONDITIONING. LATER I REMOVED THE COVERS AND FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN A FIRE IN THE PLUG THAT GOES TO THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR
FUEL LEAKS FROM UNDER TANK AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS AT GAS STATION
COMPLETE CORROSION THROUGH THE FRAME JUST BEHIND THE REAR UPPER AND LOWER TRAILING ARMS MOUNT LOCATIONS. TWO LARGE HOLES APPROXIMATELY 1" IN DIAMETER. STRESS CONCENTRATIONS DUE TO CORRODED METAL AND CYCLICAL FATIGUE HAS CAUSED CRACK PROPAGATION AND CONNECTION OF THE TWO HOLES WITH ONE ANOTHER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS EXTENSIVE RUST AND CORROSION TO THE FRAME. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO RECOMMENDED SOLUTION TO PREVENT THE CONDITION THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND A DEALER. FRAME RUSTED COMPLETELY
I LEFT MY TOP OFF OF MY JEEP WRANGLER AND IT RAINED HARD INTO THE NIGHT AND NEXT MORNING. I HEARD THE HORN GOING OFF RANDOMLY SO I RAN OUTSIDE AND THE DRIVERS SIDE DASH AND STEERING COLUMN WERE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I QUICKLY OPENED THE HOOD, DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND THEN PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH THE HOSE. THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN AND SURROUNDING DASH AND WIRING HARNESS ARE COMPLETELY MELTED. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE THE JEEP WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY
I HAD A FIRE DUE TO A RECALLED IGNITION SWITCH THAT WAS NEVER REPAIRED, I HAD NO IDEA WHEN I BOUGHT THE USED JEEP FROM THE DEALER. CHRYSLER IS NOW DENYING ANY REQUEST TO FIX THE PARTS DAMAGED BY THE FIRE
I HAVE A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER WITH ONLY 89,000 MILES. THE ENTIRE FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE IS RUSTED OUT AND THE TRANSFER CASE HAS FALLEN OFF. I'M UNABLE TO DRIVE IT IS SO UNSAFE!! I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT A VEHICLE ONLY 15 YEARS OLD WOULD BE IN THIS CONDITION!! I WILL BE GETTING AN ATTORNEY!! APPARENTLY THERE IS NOT PROPER HOLES FOR DRAINAGE IN THE FRAME AND IT HAS CAUSED THE WATER TO POOL AND RUST OUT THE FRAME. I STILL OWE $6000 ON THIS VEHICLE! I WILL NEVER BUY A JEEP AGAIN! FRAME RUSTING FROM INSIDE REAR CONTROL ARM FELL OFF CAUSING WRECK
TAKATA RECALL MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION TRAVELING ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN IT LOST CONTROL ON A WET ROAD. THE CAR SLID ACROSS THE ROAD, OVER A SMALL DITCH, AND HEAD ON INTO A TREE. THE CAR BOUNCED FROM THE TREE AND SWIPED THE DRIVERS SIDE WITH ANOTHER TREE AND FINALLY BOUNCING BACK TOWARDS THE ROAD. THE ROAD WAS SLIGHTLY CURVED DOWNHILL IN A SMALL TOWN. I ATTEMPTED TO USE MY BRAKES WHILE OUT OF CONTROL BUT THEY WERE INEFFECTIVE. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE THUNDERSTORMS ON AND OFF, RAINING IN THE AREA OF THE ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THE AIRBAG IS THE SAFETY RISK. THE CAR HIT THE TREE IN THE CENTER OF THE GRILL WHICH CRACKED THE RADIATOR, TWISTED THE MOTOR MOUNTS, DAMAGED THE SUSPENSION, FOLDED THE FRAME AND SEVERAL OTHER FRACTURES. THE AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED, BOTH A BODY SHOP AND THE TOWING COMPANY SAID IT SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE CAR IS CONSIDERED TOTALED. I WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. INJURY'S TO THE DRIVER INCLUDE BROKEN RIBS, SPRAINED ANKLE, BRUISED MUSCLES, AND A CUT ON MY FOREHEAD THAT REQUIRED 5 STITCHES AMONG A FEW MORE MINOR INJURY'S. I ALSO BELIEVE THE TALL STEERING WHEEL KEPT ME FROM BEING EJECTED.
2001 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT, FRAME IS RUSTING FROM INSIDE OUT DUE TO IMPROPER DRAINAGE HOLES. CURRENTLY WITH 139,000 MILES THE CENTER SKID PLATE/TRANSFER CASE MOUNT IS READY TO DROP OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT CONTROL ARM HAS ALSO BROKE OFF REQUIRING ESTENSIVE REPAIRS.
FRAME IS RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THERE ARE SPOTS IN THE FRAME WHERE PARTS ARE NOW MISSING, CREATING HOLES AND WEAKENING THE FRAME AS A WHOLE. THERE ARE NO ADEQUATE DRAIN HOLES IN THE FRAME, FROM THE FACTORY, TO ALLOW WATER TO DRAIN FROM THE FRAME. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER TIME.
MY 2001 JEEP IS IN REAL GOOD SHAPE VISIBLY AND NO RUST ANYWHERE I CAN TELL ON THE BODY OR OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME. HOWEVER, WHEN PULLING THE CROSSMEMBER OFF THAT HOLDS THE TRANSMISSION/TRANSFER CASE TO THE FRAME, I NOTICED A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST IN THE FRAME. IT LOOKS AS IF THE FRAME CAME OUT OF A 1920 MODEL CAR OR WORSE UNDER THERE. I MAY ATTEMPT TO HAVE THAT SECTION FIXED, BUT I HAVE NOTICED THE BOXED FRAME ON THE JEEP HAS NO WHERE FOR WATER TO GO ONCE INSIDE OF IT. MY ONLY OPTION WOULD BE TO MAKE DRAINAGE HOLES FOR WATER AND TRY TO SPRAY COSMOLINE OR SOMETHING INSIDE THE FRAME AND JUST "HOPE" THE REST OF THE FRAME IS NOT ROTTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I WOULD NOT EVEN COMPLAIN BUT A VEHICLE THAT IS BARELY 15 YEARS OLD ALREADY RUSTED OUT THIS BAD ON THE FRAME MUST HAVE BEEN DESIGNED POORLY OR MADE WITH GARBAGE STEEL AND COATED POORLY. I AM SURPRISED PEOPLE IN THE SALTY AREAS OF THE US HAVE NOT HAD THEIR CROSSMEMBER SIMPLY FALL OFF WHILE DRIVING. IF YOU NEED A PICTURE OF THE RUST IT IS IN MY PHONE AND CAN NOT ACCESS IT FROM THIS PC.
ANOTHER VICTIM OF THE 2000-2001 JEEP 4.0L CYLINDER HEAD CRACKING BETWEEN CYLINDERS 3 AND 4 ON THE CYLINDER HEAD. CRACKED HEAD HAS CAUSED MANY OTHER EXPENSIVE PROBLEMS THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE SUCH AS (COOLANT SYSTEM FAILURE, CRANKCASE BEARING FAILURES, OIL PUMP FAILURE, VALVE STEMS BEING WARPED, ETC.) AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND BEING A PART OF MANY ONLINE POLLS THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH JEEPS OF ALL MODELS THAT HAVE THE 4.0L INLINE 6 CYLINDER HEADS OF THESE YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN CRACKED HEAD OCCURRED CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AS WELL AS OIL PRESSURE TO DROP. ALSO CAUSED MALFUNCTION AND RUINED O2 SENSORS ON VEHICLE. THE CYLINDER HEADS IN THESE 2000-2001 JEEPS OF ALL MODELS ARE FAULTY AND IT IS OBVIOUS CAUSE JEEP CHANGED THE HEADS THE FOLLOWING YEAR IN 2002. THEY CLAIM THAT THESE HEADS ARE CRACKING DUE TO THE ENGINE OVERHEATING. THIS PARTICULAR JEEP HAS NEVER BEEN OVERHEATED IN ORDER FOR IT TO CAUSE THE CYLINDER HEAD TO CRACK. THEY ARE FAULTY.
THIS 2001 JEEP WRANGLER TJ FAILED NY STATE SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO FRAME RUST. PURCHASED NEW ON 06/01/2001 FROM A JEEP DEALERSHIP IN LINDENHURST, NY AND ONLY HAS 116,097 MILES ON A 4.0 ENGINE. THIS TUBULAR FRAME RUST IS PREMATURE DUE TO LACK OF "WEEP HOLES" THAT ALLOWS WATER TO EXIT THE FRAME, THEREBY PROMOTING RUST FROM THE INSIDE, OUT AND IS COSTLY TO REPAIR (SEE ATTACHMENT). NOTE... TOYOTA HAS HAD SIMILAR "RUSTY FRAME" ISSUES, BUT TOYOTA HAS DONE THE "RIGHT THING". WHILE RETRIEVING SOMETHING OUT OF THE BACK SEAT, I STEPPED UP ON THE RUNNING BOARD (AKA. SIDE STEP) AND AS I LEANED IN, IT RIPPED RIGHT OUT OF THE FRAME. WITHIN A MONTH OF THIS, MY SKID PLATE ROTTED OUT OF THE FRAME AND LEFT MY TRANSMISSION UNSUPPORTED AND MY UNIVERSAL JOINT HANGING AT 30 DEGREE ANGLE. I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC, WHO TOLD ME TO TAKE IT STRAIGHT TO A BODY SHOP. IT'S BEEN THERE TWO WEEKS NOW! I PURCHASED 2 SKID PLATE MOUNT REPLACEMENTS WHICH THEY ARE WELDING ON RIGHT NOW. *NOTE: I'D UPLOAD PICTURES OF MY FRAME, BUT MY JEEP IS STILL IN THE SHOP. SO... (ATTACHED) ARE SOME PICTURES OF THE RUNNING BOARD AND RUSTED-OUT MOUNTS.
THE FRAME ON THE TJ MODEL YEARS WRANGLERS ARE MADE IN A BOX DESIGN WITH NO DRAIN HOLES AT THE BOTTOM SO WHEN WATER OR OTHER CORROSIVES GET IN THEY ARE TRAPPED AND THIS MAKES THE FRAME RUST FROM THE INSIDE OUT. BY THE TIME THIS IS DETECTED IT'S TO LATE ,THE FRAME IS UNSAFE AND WON'T PAS INSPECTION. DON'T WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE IS KILLED BECAUSE OFF THIS VERY UNSAFE DESIGN, DO SOMETHING NOW.
WAS TRAVELING DOWN DIRT ROAD AT AT 20 TO 25 MPH, THEN HEARD DIFFERENT NOISE LIKE METAL SCRAPING. SHIFTING SEEMED A LITTLE HARDER BUT WAS STILL WORKING. AFTER RETURNING HOME I LOOKED UNDER THE JEEP AND FOUND THE TRANSMISSION SKID PLATE HAD RUSTED AWAY FROM THE FRAME AND ONLY 3 BOLTS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HOLDING THE TRANSMISSION IN PLACE. IF TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND IF BOTH SIDES BROKE LOOSE THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT STORY. I'VE DONE SOME CHECKING AFTER THIS HAPPENS AND LEARNED THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AS WELL AS RUSTING OUT IN OTHER PLACES WITH JEEPS AND THINK THE MANUFACTURER HAS AND LEAST SOME LIABILITY WITH THIS ONGOING ISSUE.
THIS IS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE THE FRAME IS PRETTY MUCH COMPLETELY ROTTED AWAY BASICALLY SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT IT IS COST ME ALMOST $4000 TO GET THE FRAME REPAIR OF REPEATABLY. ONE SUCH TIME MY TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE ACTUALLY FELL OUT BECAUSE THE SKID PLATE ROTTED OUT FOR BOLTS ON. THIS SPECIFIC REPAIR COST ME ALMOST $3000 TO FIX AS I HAD TO GET ANOTHER TRANSFER CASE AND A NEWPORT OF RAIL MADE. I ALSO HAVE MY REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM MOUNTS RUST OFF OF THE FRAME DESTROYING MY REAR AXLE . THAT WAS ANOTHER $2000 REPLACEMENT. I HAVE SEEN INSTANCES AT THE SHOP WHERE PORTS OF FALLING OFF OF THESE VEHICLES DUE TO THE SAME ISSUE. I RESPECT THE TOYOTA RECALL THE RUSTED FRAMES AND I THINK IT'S FINALLY TIME TO MAKE CHRYSLER DO THE SAME . THEY HAVE KNOWN THIS IS AN ISSUE SINCE THE 80S AND CONTINUE TO DO THIS.
THE WRANGLER FRAME IS EXTREMELY PRONE TO RUST AND IS VERY EASILY ROTTED OUT OVER THE YEARS. I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW ON CHRYSLERS PART. THERE ARE NO DRAINAGE POINTS AT THE LOWEST PARTS OF THE FRAME WHICH HOLDS IN WATER AND ROAD SALT AND ACCELERATES RUST. *TR
I HAVE A JEEP THAT HAS A FRAME THAT IS RUSTED IN THE REAR TRAILING ARMS AND WERE THE TRANSMISSION IS HELD. NO INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED YET BUT IF THIS WERE TO BREAK ON THE ROAD COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WORK FOR HYUNDAI WHO HAS A RECALL ON QUITE A FEW CARS AND SUVS FOR THE FRAME ROTTING OUT ON CARS AS OLD AS 2000 I ALSO NO TOYOTA AND NISSAN AND OTHER MANUFACTURES HAVE RECALLS ON FRAMES WHY NOT JEEP I REALIZE IT MAY BE SPECIFIC TO SALT BELT AREAS BUT THOSE OTHER COMPANIES ARE FIXING THE PROBLEM. ALSO THE CLIMATE CONTROL MELTED COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE I KNOW THIS IS ALSO A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR

IF I WAS GOING ON FREEWAY AT 55 OR PLUS THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD SITUATION....LOOKING INTO FRAME I SEE THAT THIS IS COMMON WITH WRANGLERS FROM LIKE 1997 TO 2002 AND IT IS A FACTORY DEFECT....YOU HAVE RECALLED MAZDAS, TOYOTAS AND OTHER 2000ISH VEHICLES DUE TO RUSTED FRAMES...THESE SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FRAMES REPLACED BEFORE MORE FATAL THINGS HAPPEN....I AM LOOKING IN GETTING MINE REPLACED...BUT IF I DO AND THEN IT IS RECALLED DO I GET JEEP TO PAY ME BACK FOR MY REPAIRS??? *TR
THE HVAC SYSTEM IN MY 2001 JEEP WRANGLER WAS BURNT AND MELTED, DUE TO LACK OF PROPER EQUIPMENT. THE HVAC BLOWER FAN, DUE TO BEING OLD, CAUSED RESISTANCE, SENDING TOO HIGH OF A CURRENT TO THE CLIMATE CONTROL HEAD UNIT, MELTING AND BURNING ALL WIRES, CONNECTORS, AND THE HEAD UNIT ITSELF. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN REMEDIED WITH THE EXISTENCE OF RELAYS FOR EACH SOURCE OF POWER HEADING INTO THE HEAD UNIT. *TR
FRAME RUSTED ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AT BRUSH GUARD/TRANS SUPPORT, AND TRANSMISSION DROPPED WHILE DRIVING. BOTTOM OF FRAME UNDER DRIVER/PASSENGER SEAT WERE BRUSH GUARD ATTACHES IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY AND THE FRAME HAS STARTED TO CRACK UP THE SIDES. I WOULD THINK THIS WOULD BE A CRASH SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FRAME COMPLETELY RUST AWAY ON A 14 YEAR OLD CAR.
MY JEEP FRAME RUSTED OUT, FORCING US TO PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE IN 2015. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, FEMALE, NEVER WENT OFF-ROAD WITH IT AND IT WAS GARAGE KEPT. LESS THAN 90,000 MILES ON IT TODAY. UPSET THAT I CANNOT DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF THE FRAME AND CANNOT FIND FRAME TO REPLACE IT. I STILL OWN IT AND STILL WAITING TO FIND A FRAME FOR IT. NOW SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE FRAME HAS RUSTED TO A UNSAFE CONDITION BECAUSE OF BAD METAL AND BAD DESIGN.
I WENT TO START JEEP THOUGHT DEAD BATTERY AND TRIED TO CHARGE BATTERY GAUGES ON DASH JUMPED AROUND FINALLY BATTERY ENOUGH TO TURN OVER BUT WOULD NOT START SAW WARNING LITE FOR KEY ON DASH.ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START.TOOK TO JEEP DEALER REPLACED COMPUTER MODULE AND FOUND CORRODED MAIN POWER FEED IN ENGINE WIRING HARNESS SPLICED IN NEW WIRE AND SERIAL DATA ALL CAME BACK.I WAS RETURNING HOME JUST PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY ENGINE LITE CAME ON ALONG WITH OTHER LITES ENGINE STALLED TRIED TO START SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE.RETURNED JEEP TO DEALER CURRENTLY WAITING FOR ANSWER TO PROBLEM COMPUTER DOES NOT ACCEPT MY KEY?I BROUGHT THIS JEEP USED THAT IS WHY I AM LOOKING INTO ANY RECALLS OR KNOWN PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE. *TR
DRIVING OVER A RAILROAD TRACKS, HEARD A POP. DISCOVERED THE FRAME BY THE TRAILER ARM, ON RIGHT HAND SIDE BECAME COMPLETELY DETACHED, AS IT HAD RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
THE BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH GROUND, CONNECTED TO THE MODE SELECTOR HAS MELTED IN MY JEEP. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. BACK IN JULY 2013 THE CONNECTION TO THE MODE SELECTOR MELTED. I REPLACED THE HVAC AC A/C & HEATER CONTROL WITH BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH ONLY TO HAVE IT MELT AGAIN ONE YEAR LATER. *TR
HIT A SMALL ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROAD, NOTICED A RUMBLING RIGHT AFTER. STOPPED TO CHECK - NOTICED SKID PLATE HANGING DOWN ON ONE SIDE . FRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH ALLOWING SKID PLATE AND TRANSMISSION TO SAG. FURTHER CHECKING REVEALED FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH IN MULTIPLE PLACES. IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING AN ESTIMATE OF POSSIBLE REPAIR THOUGH THE MECHANIC WAS NOT ENCOURAGING.. APPARENTLY THIS IS VERY COMMON ON THE TJ SERIES OF WRANGLER. DISAPPOINTING, CONSIDERING A FEW WELL PLACED DRAINAGE HOLES MAY HAVE PREVENTED IT. HOPEFULLY JEEP HAS TAKEN STEPS TO PREVENT THIS HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE . I HAD A FORD F150 FOR 13 YEARS & THE FRAME WAS STILL SOLID THE DAY I PARKED IT. I REALLY ENJOY MY JEEP , BUT IT MAY BE TIME TO SWITCH. :-( UPDATED 4/24/15 *JS
REMOVED TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER TO REPLACE CLUTCH. FOUND COMPLETE BOTTOM OF FRAME RUSTED FROM INSIDE SO AS TO MAKE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. SINCE HAVE FOUND THAT NEW FRAME IS NOT AVAILABLE AND IF A USED FRAME IS FOUND IT TO IS RUSTED AS TO BE DANGEROUS. HAVE CHECKED ONLINE AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I WORK IN COLLISION REPAIR AND FIND THIS TO BE A SERIOUS FAULT. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED QUICKLY BEFORE A DEATH OCCURS. MY SON'S JEEP WOULD KILL HIM IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
ALL JEEP WRANGLERS FROM 1987-2006 HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE FRAMES RUSTING OUT CAUSE THEM TO BE UNSAFE FOR DRIVING ON PUBLIC ROAD UNLESS THE FRAME IS REPAIRED OR REPLACED, MY FRAME ON MY 2001 JEEP RUSTED OUT WITH ONLY 92000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS CAUSED BY THE FRAME NOT BEING PREPED, PAINTED, AND DESIGNED PROPERLY ALLOWING WATER TO SIT IN THE FRAME BECAUSE THERE ARE NO DRAIN HOLES AT THE LOWEST POINT OF THE FRAME. *TR
TIRE TREAD SEPARATION ,AT 60MILES PER HOUR IN 110 DEGREE WEATHER AT 19292 MILES OF USE ONE TIRE COMPLETELY THREW THE TREAD 3 OTHER TIRES STATED TO DISPLAY TREAD SEPARATION. ONE TIRE COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND REPLACED BY THE DEALER WHERE THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED PN 04/17/2009 UNDER ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY THE OTHER 3 TIRES THEY REFUSED TO ACCEPT ASROAD HAZARD DAMAGE AND WOULD ONYLY PRO RATE A REPLACEMENT COST .
MY FRAME RUSTED OUT. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON JEEP WRANGLERS. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING MY TRANSMISSION FLUID WHEN I FOUND THE ISSUE. THE PART OF THE FRAME WHERE THE TRANSMISSION MOUNT ATTACHES TO COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND NOTHING WAS HOLDING THE TRANSMISSION/REAR ENGINE MOUNT TO THE FRAME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, YEARS LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,468.
