TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE FRAME BEING RUSTED AND CORRODED FROM THE FRONT CONTROL ARM TO THE REAR CONTROL ARM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS AND NOTICED AN UNUSUAL NOISE UNDER MY JEEP AND GOT OUT TO CHECK IT OUT AND FOUND THAT MY FRAME HAD CRACKED UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT WHERE THE CONTROL ARM IS WELDED TO THE FRAME. AFTER LOOKING MORE CLOSELY, THE FRAME HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND IS A HOLE HAS DEVELOPED FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 INCHES ALONG THE CENTER OF THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME RAIL AND UP AND THROUGH WHERE THE CONTROL ARM BRACKET IS WELDED TO THE FRAME. THERE IS ONLY ABOUT 1 INCH OF WELD STILL HOLDING ON THE OUTSIDE BRACKET. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE HOME. FROM THE LOOKS OF THE RUST, THE ENTIRE FRAME COULD BUCKLE AT ANY TIME. I AM NOT A ROCK CRAWLER AND DO NOT ABUSE MY JEEP. IT IS ALL STOCK AND HAS REALLY ONLY BEEN DOWN DIRT ROADS AND NOT TRAILS. UPON SEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND THAT MANY OTHER WRANGLER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING A SIMILAR PROBLEM SEVERAL ACTUALLY HAD THEIR CROSSOVER SUPPORT FOR THE TRANSMISSION FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I KNOW THESE VEHICLES ARE 10 YEARS OLD BUT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE FRAME HERE. THIS IS UNSAFE AND CERTAINLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT OR DESIGN OVERSIGHT. AFTER ALL, IT IS A JEEP WHICH IS EXPECTED TO GET SOME USE OFF ROAD. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE IF I TRULY SPENT SOME TIME OFF ROAD. PLEASE TAKE THE NECESSARY STEPS TO AT LEAST LET OWNERS KNOW THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM. I NORMALLY DON'T LOOK UNDER MY VEHICLE AND THIS COULD HAVE EASILY GONE UNNOTICED AND COMPROMISED THE ENTIRE FRAME STRUCTURE IF I HAD AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO VIBRATE. THE CONTACT ALSO CONFIRMED THE FRAME WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,105.
THE DASH BLOWER CONTROL WAS NOT WORKING. WHEN THE MECHANIC CHECK IT AND THE SYSTEM, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BLOWER HAD OVER HEATED THE PIGTAIL CONNECTORS AND MELTED THEM. THE BLOWER CONTROL WAS VISIBLY MELTED AND MULTIPLE SIGNS OF OVERHEATING WERE APPARENT. THE BLOWER CONTROL, ALL PIGTAIL CONNECTORS AND THE BLOWER HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS CAUGHT JUST SHORT OF ME HAVING TO DEAL WITH A FIRE BEING CAUSED BY THIS OVER HEATING OF THE ELECTRICAL PARTS OF THE A/C-HEATER SYSTEM. THIS IS THE SAME SITUATION AS REPORTED IN OTHER COMPLAINTS. REFER TO ODI ID NUMBERS: 10364281, 10283272, 10181912 AND 10145512. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, HE DROVE OVER A BUMP AND THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY VIBRATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO STOP THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE CONTACT DROVE OVER BUMPS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
RE: MAJOR FRAME ROT: WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE AND ALWAYS MAINTAINED IT PER THE SCHEDULE. I BOUGHT THE JEEP TO MY MECHANIC FOR SOME ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. WHEN HE REMOVED THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL HE NOTICED SERIOUS FRAME ROT. HE TOLD ME THE JEEP IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE AND NOT WORTH PUTTING ANY MORE MONEY INTO. WHEN I GOT HOME, I SCRATCHED THE RUST WITH MY FINGERNAIL AND WAS EASILY ABLE TO POKE MY FINGER RIGHT THROUGH THE FRAME. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THE FRAME ROT IS A VERY COMMON DESIGN FLAW FOR THE WRANGLER TJ SERIES. APPARENTLY MOISTURE, ROAD DEBRIS, ETC. IS ALLOWED TO ENTER THE INTERIOR OF THE FRAME BUT NOTHING IN THE DESIGN ALLOWS FOR ITS EXIT. SINCE THIS CREATES A CONDITION THAT ALLOWS THE FRAME TO ROT FROM THE INSIDE-OUT, BY THE TIME IT IS DISCOVERED IT IS TYPICALLY TOO LATE. MANY COMPANIES NOW MANUFACTURE SPECIAL FRAME PIECES TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES WHO ARE MADE AWARE OF WHAT TO LOOK FOR BEFORE TOO MUCH DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE. I SINCERELY HOPE JEEP WILL TREAT THIS DEFECT THE WAY TOYOTA DID WITH THE TACOMA IN 2008-2009! *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING OVER WATER, THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A TREE. THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY FRACTURED AND THE VEHICLE WAS CRUMPLED AS A RESULT OF THE SEVERE IMPACT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A SEVERE CONCUSSION AT THE LEVEL TWO DEGREE. THE POLICE ARRIVED ON SCENE TO ASSIST AND STATED THAT DUE TO THE SEVERITY AND FORCE OF THE IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHO ALSO STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR THE CAUSE OF THE HYDROPLANING FAILURE OR THE AIR BAGS FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH AT ALL POINTS WHERE SKIDPLATE ATTACHES TO FRAME!! THE UNDERSIDE OF THE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH/GONE AT THE AREA WHERE SKIDPLATE BOLTS TO. AS A RESULT THE SKIDPLATE IS HANGING DOWN AND NOT PROPERLY SUPPORTING TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE.. BECAUSE OF THIS HANGING IT IS CAUSING MISALIGNMENT OF THE DRIVETRAIN.. DAMAGING COMPONENTS OF THE DRIVETRAIN. I CANNOT IMAGING IF THIS GOES UNDETECTED AND THE FRAME CRACKS AND/OR BREAKS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, AT WHAT IS THE MIDDLE OF THE FRAME. *JS
LOOKS LIKE THERE WAS A SMALL FIRE BEHIND THE HEATER CONTROLS ALL THE WIRES AND THE BACK OF THE SWITCHES ARE MELTED THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE FAN MOTOR CONTROL SWITCH HAS BEEN MELTED. *TR
KEY DISENGAGES AND FALLS OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH AND CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I HAVE EXPERIENCED A TERRIBLE WOBBLE IN MY FRONT TIRE THAT MAKES MY VEHICLE HARD TO MAINTAIN TO EVEN KEEP ON THE ROAD IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I COULD NOT EVEN STEER. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE IS ALLOWED ON THE ROAD WITH THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE SERIOUSLY HURT. JEEP FRONT END WOBBLES WHEN HITTING A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. AKA DEATH WOBBLE. MUST SLOW DOWN IMMEDIATELY, LOSS OF CONTROL.
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK, GAS WILL SPIT BACK OUT AT YOU, GETTING ON YOUR HANDS AND CLOTHES. *TR
I HAVE AN 01 JEEP TJ WRANGLER, I HAVE RECENTLY NOTICED A DROP IN PERFORMANCE ALONG WITH SLOWLY VANISHING COOLANT. SEVERAL DAYS AGO WHILE IN TRAFFIC, THE OIL PRESSURE DROPPED LOW ENOUGH TO SET OFF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AS SOON AS I BEGAN DRIVING AGAIN THE OIL PRESSURE RAISED HIGH ENOUGH TO TO CLEAR THE LIGHT. HOWEVER AS SOON AS I CAME TO THE NEXT LIGHT THE OIL PRESSURE DROPPED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. UPON RETURNING HOME I LOOKED UP THE SYMPTOMS ON THE INTERNET AND IT ALL LED ME TO A VERY COMMON CRACKED HEAD BETWEEN THE 3-4 CYLINDER. I WAS ALL TOO SURPRISED TO FIND OUT HOW EXTREMELY COMMON THAT IS. *KB
FRAME RUSTED OUT AND TRANSMISSION WAS HANGING UNDER VEHICLE. FURTHER INSPECTION AND THE FRAME IS ROTTED AT REAR SUSPENSION MOUNTS. CHECKING ON WRANGLER FORUMS AND MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME FRAME ISSUES. I'D HATE TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WHEN ONE OF THE REAR FRAME PIECES LETS GO WHILE SOMEONE IS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE OVERHEATED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED TWICE AND THE ENGINE SEAL WAS ALSO REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE HEAD GASKET WAS CRACKED, CAUSING PISTONS 3 AND 4 TO FAIL. IN ADDITION, THE RADIATOR FLUID BEGAN TO DRAIN ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 148,000. ..UPDATED 11/28/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE HEAD WAS CRACKED. UPDATED 12/03/12
JEEP WRANGLER SE, 2001. THE FRONT WINDSHIELD GLASS CRACKED THREE TIMES IN THE SAME LOCATION (NEAR THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER). I THINK THE STRESS CRACK IS DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD STRUCTURE OF POSSIBLYALL 2001 JEEP WRANGLER SE MODELS. *TR
2001 JEEP WRANGLER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RUSTED AND CRACKED FRAME. *TGW CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL LETTER *TGW THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE HORN AND CRUISE CONTROL HASN'T WORKED IN YEARS AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS ALSO BEEN ON FOR YEARS. *JB
FRAME IS RUSTING DUE TO LACK OF ENGINEERING AND ABSENCE OF DRAIN HOLES IN PROPER LOCATIONS. INSIDE OF FRAME IS FLAKING OFF AROUND CONTROL ARM FRAME MOUNTS FRONT AND BACK. JEEP IS GARAGE KEPT AND TAKEN CARE OF. WATER POOLS UP AND HAS NO WHERE TO GO SO A HOLE HAS RUST THROUGH PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BEHIND CONTROL ARM MOUNT. LOTS OF FLAKING OFF FROM INSIDE OF FRAME. INCREDIBLY BAD PLANNING ON MANUFACTURER'S PART AND NOW I HAVE A POTENTIALLY UNSAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT SOME MAJOR FRAME WORK TO PERFORM. TOYOTA TRUCKS HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE AND THEY REPLACED THE FRAME.
THIS IS ONE MORE CONSUMER COMPLAINT REGARDING THE HEATER/FAN/BLOWER WIRING DESIGN FAILURE FOR THE 2001 MODEL OF THE JEEP WRANGLER. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS CONTINUES TO OCCUR IN OTHER TJ MODEL YEARS AS WELL SO I THINK IT IS A SYSTEMIC DESIGN PROBLEM THAT IF NOT CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. MY CASE IS TYPICAL OF THE FAILURES DESCRIBED BY OTHER 2001 WRANGLER OWNERS IN THAT THE HEATER BLOWER FAN SWITCH BEGAN TO DROP SPEEDS UNTIL ONLY THE HIGHEST SPEED WAS LEFT OPERATIONAL [WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS HOW THE UNDERLYING ELECTRONICS SPECIFICALLY A RESISTOR BANK FAIL IN THIS MODEL]. RECENTLY, THIS 4TH SPEED HAS FAILED AND I AM NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL I CAN RECEIVE SOME ASSURANCE THAT THE HEATER BLOWER WILL NOT CONTINUE TO HEAT UP UNTIL IT CATCHES FIRE AS HAS BEEN REPORTED IN OTHER INSTANCES. AS I WRITE THIS COMPLAINT, IT IS ABOUT 25 DEGREES OUTSIDE, SO DRIVING MY 2001 WRANGLER WITHOUT HEAT IS NOT AN OPTION. I GUESS I AM LUCKY THAT (A) IT FAILED COMPLETELY IN COLD WEATHER FORCING ME TO (B) RESEARCH THE ISSUE LEARNING THAT (C) THIS OBVIOUS VEHICLE DEFECT CAN RESULT IN THE WRANGLER CATCHING FIRE WHICH HAS FORCED ME TO (D) GO WITHOUT THE USE OF THE WRANGLER UNTIL A FACTORY DESIGNED AND SPONSORED FIX IS ENGINEERED AND INSTALLED. SO, IN SUMMARY, 2001 WRANGLER ' FAILED HEATER/FAN/BLOWER SWITCH ' MANY OTHER CASES FOR THIS MODEL YEAR AND SURROUNDING MODEL YEARS ' HAS A HISTORY OF CAUSING VEHICLE FIRES ' THIS NEEDS TO BE A FACTORY SPONSORED RE-ENGINEER AND RECALL, AND NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW BEFORE A FIRE SITUATION CAUSES A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR INJURY OR DEATH ! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH WHEN THE BOLTS THAT HELD THE FUEL TANK BECAME LOOSE AND FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FUEL TANK WAS HANGING TWO INCHES FROM THE GROUND. THE DEALER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,004.
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND MY ENTIRE JEEP STARTED TO SHAKE SO BADLY THAT I COULD BARELY HOLD ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL. I THOUGHT THAT I MAY HAVE BLOWN A FRONT TIRE BUT IT DIDN'T FEEL LIKE THAT. SO I STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND MAKING MY WAY TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY. WHEN MY SPEED DROPPED DOWN TO ABOUT 45 MPH IT JUST STOPPED. IT DID THAT ONE OTHER TIME APPROXIMATELY 1 YR LATER AND IT'S NEVER DONE IT AGAIN. *TR
FRAME BEGAN ROTTING OUT AT ROUGHLY 100,000 MILES. I DISCOVERED THIS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON MY COMMUTE HOME FROM WORK. WHILE ACCELERATING I FELT A SUDDEN POWER LOSS. THIS WENT ON FOR ANOTHER ROUNDTRIP THE FOLLOWING DAY. UPON RETURNING HOME THE FOLLOWING DAY I SAW SOMETHING HANGING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. IT WAS THE SKID PLATE, HANGING BY THE PASSENGER'S SIDE BOLTS, SUPPORTING THE ENTIRE WEIGHT OF THE DRIVETRAIN. THE DRIVESHAFT BEING AT THAT UNNATURAL ANGLE IS WHAT CAUSED THE LOSS OF POWER. TO THINK THAT I HAD DRIVEN 100 MILES THAT WAY WAS SLIGHTLY UNSETTLING. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD THE FRAME WELDED, WHICH RAN $1,200. I HAVE SINCE HAD THE REAR RAILS (BEHIND REAR WHEELS) REPAIRED FOR AN ADDITIONAL $400. MY FRONT BODY MOUNT HAS ALSO ROTTED OUT, WHICH I FIXED MYSELF FOR $10, BUT SHOULD PROBABLY BE WELDED BY A PROFESSIONAL. BOTH MECHANIC AND WELDER SUGGESTED THAT FRAME ROT OCCURRED DUE TO LACK OF HOLES FOR WATER TO DRAIN OUT AND THAT THE SITTING WATER AND SALT JUST ATE AWAY AT EVERYTHING. THE CAR NOW HAS 215,000 MILES ON IT. I AM OTHERWISE HAPPY WITH THE CAR, BUT IT UPSETS ME THAT I COULD HAVE HAD A MAJOR ACCIDENT DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN OF THE FRAME. SEEMS STRANGE THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A FIX FOR THE ISSUE, NOR A RESPONSE FROM CHRYSLER TO ADDRESS THE FACT THAT PEOPLE CAN DIE AS A RESULT OF THE FRAME ROTTING OUT. MAYBE THAT'S WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN FOR A FIX?!? AT 200,000+ MILES YOU WOULD THINK I WOULD GO STRAIGHT BACK TO A WRANGLER ONCE THIS ONE BITES IT, BUT I WILL NEVER BUY A JEEP AGAIN BASED ON THIS ISSUE. I BOUGHT THIS AS A 25 YEAR OLD WITHOUT KIDS. WITH A 2 AND 4 YEAR OLD AT HOME, I WOULD NOT TRUST A JEEP TO TRANSPORT THEM (TOO BAD, AS MY SON LOVES MY JEEP DESPITE NEVER BEING IN IT). I LIVE IN THE NORTHEAST, SO RUST/ROT EXPECTED TO AN EXTENT. MY BROTHER OWNS A FORD F-250 USED FOR PLOWING..SAME YEAR, SAME MILAGE...NO ROT!
EVERY TIME I FILL MY JEEP UP WITH GAS IT OVER FLOWS I THOUGHT IT MIGHT JUST BE THE PUMP BUT IT HAPPENS AT EVERY STATION I GO TO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE ENGINE OVERHEATED AND THE RADIATOR RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. THE CONTACT DISPENSED COOLANT INTO THE RESERVOIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BLOWN HEAD GASKET. ONE WEEK AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THERE IS A SERIOUS PRODUCT DEFECT IN THE FAN MOTOR-SWITCH-RESISTER ASSEMBLY IN MY 2001 JEEP WRANGLER. THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN REPAIRED SEVEN TIMES, SIX TIMES UNSUCCESSFULLY (THE FIRST TIME WAS IN 2004, THE YEAR I BOUGHT MY JEEP FROM A DEALERSHIP) AND THE LAST ONE ACCOMPLISHED AUGUST 20, 2009 AND WHO KNOWS HOW LONG THIS WILL LAST. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE FAN SWITCH SUDDENLY FAILS TO OPERATE AND WHEN THE MATTER IS INVESTIGATED THE MECHANIC FINDS THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR, RELAY AND SWITCH HAVE MELTED. THERE IS SOME SORT OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEM OR SURGE WHICH SIX REPAIRS HAVE FAILED TO CORRECT AND MY FEAR IS MY JEEP WILL CATCH ON FIRE AS HAS BEEN REPORTED IN A NUMBER OF CASES. *TR

THIS JEEP HAS THE 2.5L 4-CYLINDER ENGINE AND 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. ON JUNE 23, 2009 MY SON DROVE THE JEEP TO HIS AUTOMOTIVE CLASS AT CAPE FEAR COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO CHANGE THE OIL. WHILE ON THE LIFT, THE TEACHER NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS MISSING A SECTION OF TREAD. THEY REMOVED THE TIRE AND INSTALLED THE SPARE. THE JEEP HAS 80,104 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THIS MEANS THAT THE TIRE FAILED WITH ONLY 10,201 MILES AND APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS OLD. IF MY SON HAD BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. JEEP WRANGLER SPORT, 4.0L WAS PURCHASED AS SUBSEQUENT OWNER IN 2003(?) IN SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO. THE PROBLEM APPEARED IN MAYBE 2008 AFTER MOVING TO PANAMA CITY (PANAM). AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WAS OBSERVED, INTERMITTENTLY, WHEN FIRST STARTING. USUALLY A SECOND ATTEMPT WAS SUCCESSFUL. GRUPO Q CHRYSLER JEEP REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH, AT MY EXPENSE. I WAS UNAWARE THAT CHRYSLER DAIMLER HAD RECALLED THESE VEHICLES FOR IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS IN 2003/04, I THINK. MY RESEARCH REVEALED THAT GM/AC-DELCO WAS OEMING THESE SWITCHES TO CHRYSLER-DAIMLER, AND MAYBE OTHERS. HOWEVER, USED THE SAME PRESSURE TESTER WITH ENGINE RUNNING, PER THE INSTRUCTIONS, AND THE SYSTEM GRADUALLY BUILT PRESSURE FROM 18 LBS TO 25 LBS BEFORE I STOPPED THE TEST. TOOK IT BACK TO JEEP AND THE WILL NOT COVER THE WARRANTY SAYING I HAVE WATER AND DIRT MARKS IN AIRBOX. THESE WERE IN THERE WHEN THEY FIRST REPLACED ENGINE AND I AM NOW SEEKING LEGAL COUNSEL. *TR

THE A/C,HEATER BLOWER SWITCH MOPAR PART 305011214AA OVER HEATS AND THE WIRING START TO MELT,THE SWITCH STARTS TO MELT AND THEN THE SWITCH FAILS. THERE APPEARS TO BE TO MUCH CURRENT DRAW FROM THE BLOWER MOTOR. IT CAUSES THE DARK GREEN POWER LEAD CONNECTED TO THE SWITCH TO OVERHEAT MELTING THE INSULATION ON THE LEAD AND THE CONNECTIONS ON THE SWITCH. THIS HAS OCCURED AGAIN TODAY SEPTEMBER 22,2012. THIS CAUSED THE SAME PROBLEM,WIRES OVERHEAT,CONNECTIONS AND WIRES MELT AND SWITCH HOUSING AT CONNECTIONS START TO SMOLDER UNTIL SWITCH FAILS,WHEN SWITCH FAILS CURRENT CEASSES TO FLOW TO BLOWER MOTOR AND EVERYTHING COOLS DOWN ENOUGH TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE TO SWITCH WIRING. FUSE FOR THE CIRCUIT DOES NOT BLOW OUT. TO REPAIR, SWITCH MUST BE REPLACED AND NEW WIRE CONNECTORS INSALLED,AND THE DARK GREEN WIRE WILL START TO GET HOT ENOUGH TO BE UNCOMFABLE TO THE TOUCH. AS OF 10-05 THE AIR BAG FAILURE LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY REMAINED LIT AFTER TURNING ON THE VEHICLE AND THE HORN & CRUISE CONTROL ITEMS HAVE FAILED TO FUNCTION AT ALL. THESE ITEMS ARE ALL UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE CLOCK SPRING MECHANISM LOCATED IN THE FRONT STEERING, COMMON TO THE JEEP WRANGLER AND CHRYSLER MINI-VANS. CHRYSLER MINI-VANS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS FAILURE. WHEN I ASKED HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE FOR THIS ITEM TO COME IN, I WAS TOLD BY THE CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALER THAT THIS MECHANISM GETS REPLACED IN MASS VOLUME AND THEY KEEP THEM AS A STOCK ITEM AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF IT. THE DEALERS SERVICE REP ALSO ADDED THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS BECOME A SAFETY RECALL ITEM. AS OF 12-05 THE SAFETY ITEMS WILL BE RESTORED BY REPLACING THE CLOCK SPRING MECHANISM AT A CHARGE TO THE OWNER. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO 2 DEALERS, A MECHANIC AND A TIRE STORE. SINCE STARTING TO TRY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM I HAVE HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS DONE. THE TIRES WERE CHECKED, THE BALANCE WAS CHECKED, THE ALIGNMENT WAS CHECKED, NEW TIRES WERE PUT ON, SHOCKS WERE REPLACED, BRAKE ROTORS WERE REPLACED, TORSION BAR CLIPS WERE REPLACED, AND I DO NOT REMEMBER THE MANY OTHER THINGS THAT WERE REPLACED OR REPAIRED. THE LAST DEALER THAT IT WAS TAKEN TO TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND SAID THAT HE COULD FEEL THE SHAKE BUT HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS OR HOW TO FIX IT. HE SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE IT TO A FRAME SHOP. SINCE THEN I FOUND OUT THAT OTHER WRANGLERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND THAT IT EVEN HAS A NAME. THEY CALL IT THE "DEATH WOBBLE." WHEN THIS STARTS THE VEHICLE SHAKES ALL OVER THE AND THERE IS LITTLE CONTROL UNTIL YOU GET THE VEHICLE UNDER 40. *TR
