EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE FUEL TANK AT THE GAS STATION (ANY GAS STATION) THE GAS OVERFLOWS AND SPILLS OUT ON THE GROUND. *TR
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE "DEATH WOBBLE" ON MY JEEP SINCE I BOUGHT IT USED IN 2007. IT ONLY OCCURS WHEN I AM BETWEEN THE SPEED OF 45 AND 50 MPH. MY JEEP SHAKES SO VIOLENTLY I HAVE TO GRAB THE STEERING WHEEL TO HOLD IT STRAIGHT AND DECREASE MY SPEED DRAMATICALLY TO GET IT TO STOP. I'VE READ 1000'S OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE - I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE. IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS DONE. THEY REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPENER AND FRONT AXLE. I WAS TOLD THAT AFTER THAT WHEN IT STILL OCCURRED THAT I NEEDED DIFFERENT TIRES - SO I SPENT $600.00 ON NEW TIRES AND IT STILL HAPPENS. DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE TIME - BUT ENOUGH TO WHERE I FEEL UNSAFE. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO GET A NEW CAR RIGHT NOW BUT IF I COULD I WOULD!!! I CALLED JEEP AND FILED A COMPLAINT AND THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO BE DONE AND AFTER THAT THEY WOULD HELP ME WITH SOME OF THE COSTS OF THE REPAIRS. THEY TOLD ME SOMEONE WOULD BE IN TOUCH WITHIN 24 HOURS TO SCHEDULE THE DIAGNOSTIC (WHICH I THINK I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR SINCE I TOOK IT YEARS AGO AND ITS NEVER BEEN FIXED) BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD FROM ANYONE. JEEP NEEDS TO OPEN THEIR EYES-- WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN BEFORE THEY ACT ON THIS? AN ACCIDENT? HOPEFULLY THIS COMPLAINT CAN BE USED TO WARN OTHERS NOT TO BUY A JEEP PRODUCT. *TR
FUEL OVER FLOWS OUT OF FILLER NECK AFTER FUEL NOZZLE SHUTS OFF. THE JEEP, GROUND AND MYSELF END UP COVERED IN FUEL EVERYTIME I FUEL UP. *TR
BRAND NEW, 2006 JEEP WRANGLER 4X4, LESS THAN 5,000 MILES ON IT WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (FIRST INCIDENT,50 MPH), ENGINE STALLS. TRY TO RESTART...PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAIT ABOUT 5 MINUTES, AND THE JEEP FINALLY RESTARTS. SECOND INCIDENT, DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, MIDDLE LANE, APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES PER HOUR, JEEP ENGINE STALLS AGAIN. LOSS OF ALL POWER, STEERING COMPONENTS, NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS FLASH. JUST COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. ALMOST GET REAR-ENDED BY SEVERAL CARS BEFORE MANAGING TO GET THE JEEP OFF ON THE SHOULDER. SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR 45 MINUTES BEFORE THE JEEP WOULD RESTART. FIRST DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO REFUSED TO LOOK AT IT BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, AND SAID THEY COULD GET TO IT IN A WEEK OR SO. I TOLD THEM I DIDN'T HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS GOING TO DIE, AND SECONDLY I WASN'T DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT WAS UNSAFE AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. I WAS THEN REFERRED TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED HE WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE DEFECT...SO NOTHING HAS BEEN FIXED AND I'M STILL DRIVING AN UNSAFE CAR. *JB
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL FORCES, DEALER CLAIMS STRESS FRACTURE, MANUFACTURE REFUSES TO REPLACE DUE TO MILEAGE OVER 12,000, VEHICLE IS A LITTLE OVER 14,000 MILES AND ONLY ONE YEAR OLD. THIS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO MANUFACTURES DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE REPLACED REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE ON VEHICLE. IN THE PROCESS TO REPLACE WINDSHIELD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, VEHICLE BEING USED ONLY IN EMERGENCY IF NEEDED!!*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED AND SHOOK WHEN THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A BUMP. THE CONTACT HAD TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL AGGRESSIVELY, SLOW DOWN, AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHOCKS AND TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PARTS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO HIS RESIDENCE WHERE IT FAILED TO RESTART. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLER REGARDING THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 18,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,588.
WHILE DRIVING @ 55-60 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES MY 2006 JEEP WRANGLER SHAKES LIKE IT IS GOING TO FALL APART. IT HAS LESS THAN 12000 MILES ON IT AND THIS IS THE 2ND PAIR OF ROTORS WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, AROUND 3 MONTHS. NOW I'M TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT ITS MY DRIVING STYLE, THAT I SHOULD DOWN SHIFT TO MAKE IT EASIER ON THE BRAKES. WHICH I ALREADY DO DOWN SHIFT. THE REPAIR WAS TAKEN CARE OF FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE OF THE SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BETWEEN THE ROTOR CHANGES. BUT, THAT THE NEXT TIME I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!! LET ME TELL YOU THAT I'M PISSED!!! THIS IS BULL &*$# AND I'M NOT GOING TO BE PUSHED OVER AND TOLD ITS THE WAY I DRIVE, WHEN ITS APPARENT THAT THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. BRAKE ROTORS KEEP HAVING TO BE REPLACED EVERY 3-4 MONTHS. *TR
THE DW'S, A DEFECT JEEP REFUSES TO ADDRESS. TELL ME WHERE JEEP HAS PUBLICLY ADDRESSED THIS WIDE AND WELL KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THEIR CONSUMERS. ENOUGH WITH THE BAND-AIDS!! BECAUSE I DID NOT BRING MY JEEP IN FOR A 30,000 ML CHECK UP (EVENTHOUGH I WAS ONLY AT 28,000) MY DEALER TOLD ME MY WARRANTY WOULD BE NULL AND VOID. ALTHOUGH, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE ENGINE HAD TO DO WITH THE STEERING, I WAS UNABLE TO GET HIM TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM ANY FURTHER. "ROTATE YOUR TIRES FOR YOU, THAT'S ALL I CAN DO" WAS WHAT I WAS TOLD. SO, AFTER THROWING MONEY AT MY JEEP TO TRY AND FIX IT THIS WAY OR THAT WAY (BTW MY JEEP IS ENTIRELY STOCK) THE ONLY THING I'VE FOUND TO RID THE PROBLEM IS TO REPLACE MY TIRES EVERY 25,000 ML OR SO AND ROTATE EVERY 5,000 ML. SO, IF YOU DON'T MIND BUYING NEW TIRES EVERY TWO YEARS OR SO, PROBLEM SOLVED. IF THIS A PROBLEM JEEP IS TELLING YOU THAT YOU CAN PRETTY MUCH SUCK IT!
GAS TANK OVERFLOWS ON EVERY FILL - NO MATTER WHICH GAS STATION, PUMP, ETC (ALL OVER THE EAST COAST) THE AUTO SHUTOFF FIRES ONLY AFTER A CUP OR MORE OF GAS IS SPILLED. THIS HAS RESULTED IN ME BEING COVERED IN GASOLINE REPEATEDLY, NOT TO MENTION THE AMOUNT OF GAS SPILLED TO THE GROUND EACH TIME IT IS FILLED. (EVEN FILLING EXTREMELY SLOWLY RESULTS IN A SPILL.) *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE FELT UNSTABLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED A LARGE BUBBLE AND TREAD LOSS ON THE RIGHT REAR FIRESTONE TIRE. THE TIRE SIZE WAS P23575R15. THE DOT NUMBER AND TIRE INFORMATION WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 14,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,500.
ROTATED TIRES, 2 FRONT WHEEL STUDS BROKE AT LESS THAN 100 FEET. TOOK VEHICLE TO TIRE RETAILER TO REPLACE BROKEN STUDS, AND THEY DISCOVERED 3 OTHER STUDS WERE SEVERELY STRETCHED. 5 OF THE 10 FRONT WHEEL STUDS WERE REPLACED. I HAVE ALL 5 DEFECTIVE STUDS.*AK
MORE THAN HALF OF THE TIMES I FILL THE FUEL TANK, THE FILLER NOZZLE DOES NOT SHUT OFF, SPRAYING FUEL OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. *TT
EACH TIME THE FUEL TANK IS FILLED, GASOLINE GUSHES OUT THE FILL SPOUT ON TO THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND OR PAVEMENT. THIS CAN NOT BE AVOIDED IF COMPLETELY FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL. FUEL TANK CAN ONLY PARTIALLY BE FILLED. THIS PROBLEM POSES AN EXTREME FIRE DANGER TO ANY PERSON FILLING THE FUEL TANK.
THE PROBLEMS FIST STARTED AROUND 3,000. MILES. IT STARTED PINGING ( METAL TO METAL SOUND ) BETWEEN SHIFTING GEARS. WHEN I FIRST TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL AND NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. LESS THAN A MONTH LATER IT WAS BACK IN THE SHOP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THEN THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH, BECAUSE IT WAS WEAK, AND THE PRESSURE PLATE. I JUST HAD IT IN THE SHOP YESTERDAY FOR THE SAME PINGING SOUNDS AGAIN, ALL OVER AGAIN. AND WAS TOLD, IT WAS FINE, DRIVE IT ANY WAY YOU LIKE. SO NOW I'M EXPECTING TO HAVE TO GO BACK ONCE AGAIN IN A MONTH TO HAVE THE SAME REPAIRS, AND MY JEEP ONLY HAS 5,700 MILES ON IT. *JB
EVERY TIME YOU FILL THE VEHICLE UP WITH GAS, GAS COMES POURING OUT OF THE FILLER OPENING. THIS HAPPENS ON ALL TYPES OF GAS PUMPS. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE TANK OF VENTING SYSTEM BECAUSE THE PUMPS NEVER AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. GAS SPILLS ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE CAR. MANY OTHER JEEP OWNERS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM.
THE GAS ALWAYS OVER FILLS AND SPILLS OUT WHEN YOUR FILLING IT UP. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME I FILL UP THE GAS. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT STATION I AM AT OR WHAT THE WEATHER IS LIKE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE JEEP. EVERYONE I KNOW THAT OWNS A JEEP HAS THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRING. THIS IS A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD AND ALSO NOT WHAT I WANT TO HAPPEN WHEN GAS IS ALMOST $4.00 A GALLON. *TR
WHEN FILLING GAS TANK. FUEL SPITS OUT OF FILL TUBE BEFORE PUMP AUTO SHUT OFF KICKS IN. FUEL IS SPILLED ON VEHICLE, FILLING STATIONS GROUND AND FUEL GET ON THE PERSON FILLING THE TANK. HAS HAPPENED TO MYSELF AS WELL AS PEOPLE AT "FULL SERVICE" STATIONS. *TR
MY WIFE AND I WERE ON A TRIP IN OUR 2006 WRANGLER (WITH 10,802 MILES ON IT),IT WAS VERY COLD THIS NIGHT AND WINDOWS WERE FOGGING UP. WE TURNED ON THE DEFROSTER FOR THE FIRST TIME AND WITHIN A MINUTE OUR WINDSHIELD CRACKED. I CALLED OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THIS ITEM AND I HAD TO PAY THEM TO REPLACE MY WINDOW. I LATER FOUND OUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED. 12 MONTH OR 12,000 MILES. I THINK THEY MIGHT HAVE A SAFETY ISSUE WIT THIS SO MORE PEOPLE NEED TO COMPLAIN. *TR
DEFROSTER/HEATER FAN DOESN'T WORK. EACH TIME I TAKE IT IN TO SERVICE DEALER, AM TOLD IT'S FIXED, BUT IT STOPS WORKING. HEATER CONTROL AND HARNESS HAS BEEN REPLACED 2 TIMES AND STILL DOESN'T WORK. IT IS WINTER IN WI, NEED THE FAN FOR HEAT AND DEFROSTING.*CN
EVERY TIME I TRY TO FILL THE GAS TANK UP TO FULL, THE FUEL WILL OVERFLOW OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. ALSO, WHEN I PUMP GAS, THE FUEL WILL OFTEN BACKFLOW INTO THE PUMP, CAUSING IT TO SHUT OFF PREMATURELY (ABOUT EVERY 10 SECONDS, REGARDLESS OF AMOUNT OF GAS IN TANK). THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM EVER SINCE I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. MY ONLY CHOICE IS TO NEVER FILL MY GAS TANK ALL THE WAY, AND PUMP THE GAS SLOWLY. *TR
PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEN DRIVING OVER 45 MPH. THE FRONT WHEEL MOVE RAPIDLY LEFT AND RIGHT CAUSING A LOT OF VIBRATION ON THE BODY, FRONT SHIMMY. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE VIBRATION IS REDUCING THE SPEED OF THE JEEP. *JB
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON MANUAL 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION WITH LESS THAN 15,000 MILES ON IT WHEN WITHOUT WARNING IT STOPPED ACCELERATING. I WAS IN 4TH GEAR AT THE TIME. I TRIED TO SWITCH GEARS AND WAS UNABLE TO PUT IT INTO ANY GEAR AND WAS STUCK COASTING IN NEUTRAL. I STOPPED THE CAR AND WAS AGAIN UNABLE TO PUT THE CAR INTO ANY GEAR WHILE THE ENGINE WAS ON. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, PUT THE CAR INTO SECOND GEAR AND RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO SAFETY IN 2ND GEAR TO A GAS STATION A MILE DOWN THE STREET BEFORE THE CAR GAVE A PUFF OF BLACK SMOKE FROM THE TAILPIPE AND WOULD NO LONGER DRIVE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A WEAR ITEM - AND THAT MY CLUTCH WAS BURNED UP. THIS WAS NOT A WARN OUT/BURNED OUT CLUTCH BUT I COULD NOT PROVE IT. 1200.00 WORTH OF REPAIRS FOR SOMETHING THAT I AM POSITIVE WAS NOT MY FAULT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER X, THERE IS A FAULT FROM THE FACTORY GAS TANK, WHICH WHEN I FILL MY TANK WITH FUEL IT DOES NOT ALLOW THE PUMP TO AUTO SHUT OFF, AND SPEWS A DECENT AMOUNT OF GAS FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN EVER I FILL UP. I HAVE NOT FOUND A WAY TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE, AND THE ONLY THING THAT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING TO FIX IT, IS REPLACING THE TANK WITH AN OE STYLE TANK THAT HAS THE SAME FAULTY VALVE INSIDE IT. *TR
WHEN REFUELING FUEL TANK ON THIS VEHICLE THE FUEL PUMP WILL NOT SHUT OFF WHEN FUEL ENTERS FILLING TUBE OF VEHICLE THUS CAUSING FUEL TO BE SPILLED OUT OF THE FILLING TUBE AND ONTO EXTERIOR OF VEHICLE, DRIVING SURFACE AND FUEL FILLING SYSTEM INCLUDING THE HOSES AND PUMP(S). THE FUEL FLOW HAS SUCH FORCE THAT THE PERSON OPERATING FILLING PUMP WILL ALSO BE SPRAYED WITH FUEL ON THEIR PERSON AND CLOTHES AS WELL AS AREAS MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY. THIS CAUSES A SEVERE EXPLOSIVE ENVIRONMENT IN THE PROXIMITY OF STATIC ENERGY. I HAVE NEVER REFUELED MY VEHICLE WITHOUT THE OVERFLOW HAPPENING UNLESS I ONLY PARTIALLY FILLED MY FUEL TANK, WHY HAVE A 19 GALLON TANK IF YOU CAN ONLY USE 2/3 OF IT? THERE IS A SEVER DANGER OF FIRE/EXPLOSION DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT IS SPILLED BEFORE THE PUMP IS STOPPED. *TR
WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF AND SPLASHES OUT DOWN THE SIDE THE VEHICLE, ONTO THE GROUND AND ALL OVER THE PERSON FUELING THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE REFUELED. NOTHING HAS BEEN FOUND TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING. THE DEALER IS UNWILLING TO ASSIST IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2006 JEEP CHEROKEE IN OCTOBER 2006 AND SINE THE DAY WE BOUGHT IT WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT END STEERING. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT IT AND THEY TOLD US THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE STEERING. THE NEXT TIME WE TOOK IT IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, A FEW DAY LATER, THEY TOLD US IT NEEDED BALANCING. THE THIRD TIME WE TOOK IT IN THEY TOLD US IT NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT. WE HAVE NOW DONE BALANCING AND ALIGNMENTS APPROXIMATELY EVERY 2-3 MONTHS. WE HAVE REPLACED THE STABILIZER ARM THREE TIMES SINCE WE BOUGHT THE JEEP AND NEED TO REPLACE IT AGAIN. THE STEERING GETS SO BAD IT ALMOST PULLS THE WHEEL OUT OF YOUR HAND AT 45 MILES PER HOUR. THE DEALERSHIP STILL SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON (11,000 MILES) ON THE FREEWAY, WHEN IT TOTALLY LOST POWER. IT LITERALLY SHUT DOWN. I WAS ABLE COAST TO THE CENTER MEDIUM. (THIS HAD HAPPENED JUST 4 DAYS BEFORE ALSO) I WAS ALMOST IN A CRASH AS I TRIED TO COAST TO A SAFE PLACE. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR UP, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I BOUGHT THE JEEP TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP NEAR BY. THEY PUT THE CAR ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE, AND ON THE RACK TO CHECK IT, AND TOLD ME EVERYTHING CAME OUT FINE, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT IS A VERY VERY DANGEROUS CAR TO DRIVE. IT IS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD AND UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING OVER A ROAD BUMP, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THEY COULD INSTALL A DAMPENER TO LESSEN THE VIBRATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000.
WHEN FUELING THE THE TANK BURPS FUEL OUT THE VEHICLE FILL TUBE AFTER THE FILL NOZZLE HAS SHUT OFF. THIS OCCURS OFTEN. AT FIRST OCCURRENCE I ASSUMED THAT THE FLOW INTO THE TANK WAS TOO FAST, AND BEGAN SLOW FILLING TO PREVENT IT THIS INITIALLY HAS SOME SUCCESS, AS IT DID NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE, AND NOW IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME EVEN WHEN FILLING SLOW.
OUR JEEP HAS HAD THE DEATH WOBBLE SINCE IT WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN REACHING APPROXIMATELY 50MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHAKE/OSCILLATE UNCONTROLLABLY TO WHERE IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN ITS LANE. THE BRAKES HAVE TO BE PRESSED HEAVILY IN ORDER FOR IT TO STOP AND PRESENTS A CONCERN FOR REAR END COLLISION. TO PREVENT THE WOBBLE FROM HAPPENING, THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE DRIVEN 30MPH BELOW HIGHWAY SPEED LIMIT, CAUSING SAFETY CONCERNS. JUST EARLIER, THE DEATH WOBBLE HAPPENED AND WE VEERED INTO THE NEXT LANE AND ALMOST HIT A CAR. I ALSO SPRAINED MY ARM ONCE WHEN TRYING TO KEEP IN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE DEATH WOBBLE HAPPENED GOING DOWN HILL. *TR
FRONT END SHAKES AND SHIMMIES SINCE I GOT IT IN SEPT 06, TAKEN TO SEE WHY, AND OF COURSE I BEEN TOLD IT IS THIS THAT OR THE OTHER, AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED, I HAVE REPLACED TIRES, BRAKE AND CALIPERS, SHOCKS, STABILIZER SHOCKS, HAVE HAD THE FRONT END LINED DUE TO THE SHAKING AND SHIMMY, IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ON THIS MATTER . AFTER APPROXIMATELY 500 MILES THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO EXHIBIT DIFFICULTY IN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. PROBLEM IS VERY APPARENT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD, BUT STILL NOTICEABLE AFTER THE VEHICLE WARMS UP. WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND, IT FEELS AS IF SECOND GEAR IS NOT FULLY SYNCHRONIZED. IF IT IS DONE AT A NORMAL SHIFT RATE IT ACTUALLY CLIPS SECOND GEAR (AND MAKES AN ASSOCIATED CLIPPING/GRINDING NOISE). PAUSING IN NEUTRAL AND RESTING THE SHIFTER AGAINST SECOND, YOU CAN ACTUALLY FEEL TWO OR THREE GEAR TEETH GO BY BEFORE IT WILL DROP INTO GEAR. TO GET IT TO SHIFT SMOOTHLY WITHOUT CLIPPING GEAR TEETH REQUIRES A LONG ENOUGH DELAY IN NEUTRAL THAT FOLLOWING TRAFFIC ALMOST REAR ENDS THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER IS ESSENTIALLY FACED WITH THE DECISION OF DAMAGING THE TRANSMISSION OR RISKING GETTING REAR ENDED. DOUBLE CLUTCHING THE VEHICLE HELPS, BUT OBVIOUSLY SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED FOR A FULLY SYNCHRONIZED TRANSMISSION. TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER AT 1164 MILES AND 1306 MILES, BUT THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS CLAIM THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY ADJUSTED AND LUBRICATED THE LINKAGE AS A PREVENTIVE MEASURE. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE MANAGER AND ANOTHER DEALER EMPLOYEE WHO DROVE THE VEHICLE HAVE NOTICED THAT SECOND GEAR DOESN'T FEEL THE SAME AS OTHER WRANGLERS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. I HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND THEY AGREE THAT THE TRANSMISSION ISN'T SHIFTING CORRECTLY. I AM SCHEDULED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN AGAIN FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT VIA PHONE THE DEALER DOESN'T APPEAR TO HAVE AN IDENTIFIED CAUSE OR FIX. WHILE FUELING UP MY 2006 JEEP UNLIMITED TJ, THE GAS SPILLS OUT ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE JEEP ONCE IT'S FULL INSTEAD OF TURNING OFF THE PUMP. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE DAY ONE, WHICH MEANS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AS MANY OTHER 05 & 06 JEEPS HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. *TR
OUR WRANGLER RUBICON WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM A DODGE/CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALERSHIP IN BULLHEAD CITY DURING MODEL YEAR, 2006. SINCE THAT TIME, THE JEEP HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THE WINDSHIELD RUBBER SEAL THAT CONTINUES TO SEPARATE FROM THE WINDSHIELD AND THE WINDOW FRAME. FIRST IT SHRANK IN THE LOWER LEFT CORNER. THIS CAUSED WIND NOISE AND EXCESSIVE DRAFTS. THEY PUSHED IT BACK INTO PLACE. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE ENTIRE GASKET SEPARATED AND FELL ONTO THE DASH! GOOD VISTA GLASS CAME TO OUR HOME CHECKED THE SEAL AND TOLD US IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE WHOLE RUBBER GASKET WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS. NOW THIS WEEK, WHILE THE JEEP JUST SAT IN OUR DRIVEWAY, WE DISCOVERED THE ENTIRE RUBBER SEAL AGAIN HANGING FROM THE WINDOW FRAME ABOVE THE DASHBOARD. THIS MAKES DRIVING THE JEEP TO GET IT REPAIRED DANGEROUS. AS I TYPE THIS, GOOD VISTA GLASS AGAIN IS PLACING A NEW GASKET INTO PLACE. I AM NOT COMPLETELY SURE ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF THE WINDSHIELD WHEN THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN BUT AT THE VERY LEAST, THERE IS A DANGER OF THIS GASKET FALLING INTO MY VIEW AND/OR LAP WHILE DRIVING. MY VEHICLE HISTORY IS IMPORTANT TOO. I, LIKE A LOT OF 4 X 4 OWNERS, DO NOT EVEN TAKE THE JEEP OFF ROAD. I "BABY" THE VEHICLE AND KEEP IN IMMACULATE CONDITION. I PURCHASED A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT ON SEPT 25, 2008. WITHIN ONE WEEK OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE I EXPERIENCED SEVERE WOBBLE (AKA "DEATH WOBBLE") WHILE TRAVELING AROUND 55MPH TWICE. IT HAPPENED WHEN I RAN OVER ROUGH AREAS IN THE ROAD THAT HAD BEEN PATCHED UP POT HOLES. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I HAD TO ALMOST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE IT WOULD STOP DO THIS. I FELT I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING. AFTER THE FIRST TIME I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM AND THAT MANY, MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. IT IS REFERRED TO AS THE "JEEP DEATH WOBBLE". I CONTACTED THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE JEEP IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THEM THEY ACTED AS IF THEY NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. THEY REPLACED THE DAMPER ON THE STEERING BUT I KNOW FROM MY RESEARCH THAT THIS IS JUST A SHORT TIME \"FIX\" AND THAT ALTHOUGH CHRYSLER HAS RECEIVED MANY LETTERS FROM CONSUMERS SUCH AS MYSELF, THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT THAT THEIR DESIGN IF DANGEROUS THEREFORE, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL TO PERMANENTLY FIX THE PROBLEM. I THEN CONTACTED X-TREME JEEPS IN TAMPA FLORIDA AND THE OWNER INFORMED ME THAT THE ONLY WAY TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM IS TO ELIMINATE THE DAMPER ALL TOGETHER AND INSTALL THE RUGGED RIDGE STEERING KIT WHICH ACTUALLY BRINGS THE MECHANISM BACK TO THE OLDER WAY THE JEEPS WERE MADE BACK WHEN AMC BUILT THEM. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE JOB, COSTING APPROX. $330. I CAN NOT AFFORD THIS PLUS THE MONTHLY CAR PAYMENT BUT THEN AGAIN, I CAN\'T AFFORD TO WRECK MY VEHICLE DO TO POOR DESIGN. I LIVE 17 MILES FROM MY JOB AND CAN\'T AFFORD TO GO WITHOUT MY TRANSPORTATION. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE VEHICLE CHRYSLER DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE RESPONSIBLE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON 06/01/06 THE VEHICLE'S DASH LIGHTS WENT OUT, WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH ON A CLEAR NIGHT. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE FUSE IMMEDIATELY AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE WHOLE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WOULD NEED TO BE ORDERED. ON 06/21/06, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE REPLACEMENT HOWEVER THE REPLACEMENT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAD NOT BEEN ORDERED. THE DEALER ALERTED THE CONTACT THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONDUCTING MORE TESTS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS BECAUSE THERE WERE SEVERAL VEHICLES OF THE SAME MODEL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.
