SEVERE VIBRATION IN FRONT WHEELS/STEERING AT 55 MPH. CEASES AS SPEED IS INCREASED PAST 60 MPH OR DECREASED.. TIRE BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT HAVE NO EFFECT. VEHICLE IS TOTALLY STOCK AND HAS APROX. 26,000 MILES. INTERNET RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. VIBRATION IS SEVERE ENOUGH TO ALMOST CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR THE LAST YEAR. *TR
VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO WORK, APPROX. 15 MILES, AND PARKED. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE TO GO TO LUNCH, THE CLUTCH PEDAL SNAPPED AND DANGLED. THE CLUTCH HYDRAULIC UNIT ACTUATING ROD HAD SNAPPED IN TWO. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE REPLACEMENT PART HAVE TO BE ORDERED AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT BE REPAIRED UNTIL NEXT WEEK. I HAVE REQUESTED THE DEALER TO KEEP THE OLD PART FOR ME. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING IN THE MORNING OR LUNCH TIME TRAFFIC I HAVE NO DOUBT IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
2006 JEEP WRANGLER. CONSUMER STATES CLUTCH PEDAL SNAPPED. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, THE CLUTCH SNAPPED AND DANGLED. THE CLUTCH HYDRAULIC UNIT ACTUATING ROD HAD SNAPPED IN TWO. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER CONTACTED HIM AND STATED THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED IN AUGUST 2006. THE CONSUMER STATED HE FORGOT THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED. BUT APPARENTLY, THE CLUTCH HYDRAULIC UNIT THAT WAS INSTALLED UNDER THE RECALL IS ALSO DEFECTIVE. *JB
EVERYTIME I FILL UP THE JEEP WITH FUEL, IT SHUTS OFF THE PUMP, THEN OVERFLOWS FUEL ONTO THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ONTO THE GROUND. *TR
THE GAS SPILLS OUT EVERYTIME I FILL UP. THE PUMP DOES NOT CLICK OFF UNTIL GAS SPRAYS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. IT IS NOT THE GAS PUMP BECAUSE THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND I FILL UP AND MAY DIFFERENT PLACES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DAMPER WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
FUEL SPILLS WHILE FILLING UP JEEP WRANGLER. AFTER PUMPING FUEL, FUEL DUMPS OUT OF TANK INLET AND SPILLS ON GROUND. *TR
MY JEEP EXPERIENCES WHAT'S KNOWN AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE." IT HAS HAPPENED FOR YEARS, BUT I HAD ALWAYS BEEN TOLD THAT MY TIRES WERE OUT OF BALANCE, OR THAT I NEEDED A FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THOSE FIXES WOULD HELP FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, AND THEN THE SHAKE WOULD RETURN. JUST IN THE LAST 6-8 MONTHS DID A MECHANIC ACTUALLY TELL ME ABOUT THE WOBBLE, WHAT REALLY SEEMS TO CAUSE IT, AND THAT IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE WITH JEEPS. MY JEEP IS STOCK, WITH NO MODIFICATIONS, BUT I STILL GET THE WOBBLE. IT OCCURRED 3 TIMES THIS MORNING ON THE 5 FREEWAY IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY, EACH TIME AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 55-68 MILES PER HOUR. THE FRONT END OF THE JEEP SHAKES VIOLENTLY, AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE SHAKING IS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. LUCKILY, I'VE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY. A FEW MONTHS AGO IT HAPPENED, AND A CO-WORKER WAS FOLLOWING ME IN A DIFFERENT VEHICLE. HE SAID MY FRONT TIRES WERE ACTUALLY SMOKING BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE TIRES MOVED ON THE FREEWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE REFUELING, THE FUEL PUMP FAILED TO SHUT OFF AND CAUSED FUEL TO SPEW OUT WITH FORCE AND SPILL ONTO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A RECURRING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. 1. I GET LOW ON FUEL AND NEED TO REFUEL MY WRANGLER. 2. GAS OVERFLOWS THE TANK FILLER TUBE AND SPILLS FUEL ALL OVER THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE, TIRES, GROUND, AND DEPENDING WHERE I AM STANDING, ME. IT OCCURS JUST ABOUT EVERY TIME I FILL ME VEHICLE UP, AT MANY DIFFERENT STATIONS WITH DIFFERENT NOZZLE TYPES. 3. THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP AT THE GAS STATION GAS SPEWS OUT OF THE TANK WHEN IT NEARS FULL SPLASHING EVERYTHING WITHIN A FOOT OF THE CAR INCLUDING AT TIMES MYSELF. THIS HAPPENS EACH AND EVERY TIME I TRY TO FILL UP. I ALWAYS HAVE TO TRY TO STOP THE PUMP BEFORE IT'S FULL. IF I SO CHOOSE TO TRY TO FILL THE TANK I HAVE TO TRY TO LISTEN TO DETERMINE WHEN THE GAS MIGHT SPEW BACK OUT ON ME AND LET ME TELL YOU THAT'S DEFINITELY NOT A FOOL PROOF METHOD AS I'VE BEEN SPRAYED WITH GAS NUMEROUS TIMES TRYING THIS METHOD. IF I TRY TO FILL THE TANK AND STAND AWAY FROM THE TANK SO AS TO MISS THE SPRAY THEN GAS SPEWS EVERYWHERE; ON THE GROUND, BACK ON THE GAS PUMP ITSELF, AND DOWN THE SIDE OF MY CAR; WHICH BY THE WAY DAMAGES THE PAINT. THIS IS A HUGE DANGER NOT ONLY TO MYSELF BUT TO OTHERS AS WELL. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER OFFERED A RECALL ON OTHER YEARS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT ON THIS MODEL YEAR. THEY'VE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE IN THEIR JEEPS SO WHY NOT OFFER A RECALL ON ALL YEARS WITH THIS PROBLEM? I'M SORELY DISAPPOINTED THAT CHRYSLER CARES SO LITTLE FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY AND EVEN THE SAFETY OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC SINCE THEY COULD BE AFFECTED BY THE SPEWING GAS AS WELL. WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. *TT
GAS TANK OVERFLOWS WHEN REFUELING, RESULTING IN APPROXIMATELY 8 TO 24 OUNCES OF GASOLINE SPILLING OUTSIDE OF THE TANK, DOWN THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ON TO THE PERSON FILLING THE TANK. THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE THAT HAPPENS TO VARYING DEGREES EACH TIME THE JEEP IS REFUELED. *TR
I OWN A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER AND BESIDES EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR WHICH THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CANNOT SEEM TO FIX, MY LATEST PROBLEM IS WITH THE IGNITION SYSTEM . ORIGINALLY I THOUGHT IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A NEW ONE THE PARTS SALESMAN TOLD ME THAT MY PROBLEM WASN'T WITH THE SWITCH (AND HE WAS RIGHT) THE PROBLEM IS A PIECE OF PLASTIC BETWEEN THE SWITCH AND THE TUMBLER AND THAT THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE PLASTIC PIECE WAS TO BUY THE COMPLETE STEERING COLUMN. IN THAT PHONE CALL HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT HE KNEW THIS DUE TO THE FACT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE WRANGLERS 1997 ON UP AND THE FACTORY HASN'T DONE ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS LITTLE 50 CENT PIECE WAS TO BUY A $500.00 STEERING COLUMN. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALLED ITEM DUE TO THE FACT THEY KNOW IT IS A PROBLEM AND I AM AFRAID THAT WHILE I'M DRIVING THE VEHICLE COULD SHUT DOWN SO I AM NOT DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY SO IF IT DOES SHUT DOWN I WONT HAVE AN UNCONTROLLABLE VEHICLE AT HIGH SPEED. *TR
AFTER FILLING GAS TANK, PRESSURE BUILT UP SPRAYS AT LEAST A CUP OF GAS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED TO THE AUTOMATIC STOP POINT AT GAS STATIONS. SPRAYS PERSON OPERATING GAS PUMP, POURS GAS DOWN REAR FENDER. TO CORRECT FAILURE I HAVE STOPPED FILLING MY TANK, ONLY BUYING GAS IN SMALLER INCREMENTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. ON JUNE 8, 2010 WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND THE BRAKES BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A DITCH. HE MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DITCH SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE 2006 CHRYSLER BRAKE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED ON THE DAY THAT THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE DEALER TOLD HIM THAT THEY WOULD INSPECT THE BRAKES, ROTORS, CALIPERS, AND REPLACE ANY PARTS AND IF THERE WAS AN EXISTING RECALL THAT CHRYSLER WOULD REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE PARTS; HOWEVER, THEY HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF A BRAKE RECALL. THE CHRYSLER MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS REJECTED FROM THE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 55,700.
GAS PUMPS DO NOT PROPERLY SHUT OFF AND OVERFLOW OF FUEL IS SPILLED ONTO THE GROUND. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK DESIGN OF MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF JEEP WRANGLERS BUT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY GAS TANK THE PUMP DOESN'T SHUT OFF AND IT OVERFILLS THE TANK CAUSING FUEL TO SPILL EVERYWHERE. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH PUMP OR GAS STATION I USE IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME. THE SOLUTION IS UNKNOWN TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

UNCONTROLLABLE WOBBLE IN FRONT AXLE/WHEELS AND SHAKING OF STEERING WHEEL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,000. UPDATED 07/26/10. *LJ THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. WHILE PUTTING GAS IN MY '06 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT, THE TANK OVER FILLED, CAUSING GAS TO COME OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME A FEW TIMES WITH IN THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED AT VARIOUS GAS STATIONS AND WHILE USING OLDER AND NEWER PUMPS. *TR
TRAVELING AT 55 MPH HIT A SLIGHT BUMP ON THE ROAD AND THE FRONT END STARTED WOBBLE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SIDE TO SIDE VERY QUICKLY. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS TO STOP WAS TO SLOW DOWN TO A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH.
MY 2006 RUBICON HAS A PROBLEM WITH GAS OVERFLOWING EVERY TIME I FILL UP. STARTING TO BECOME A BIG PROBLEM. WASTE OF MONEY AND NOT HELPING THE ENVIRONMENT. ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND RESOLVED,. *TR

I LISTEN TO THE FUEL AS I FILL IT AND SHUT IT OFF MANUALLY WHEN IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS ABOUT FULL. THIS KEEPS IT FROM SPRAYING FUEL BACK OUT THE FILLER NECK MOST OF THE TIME. *TR
DRIVING DOWN A CITY ROAD AND 45-50 MILES THE JEEP SHOOK SO HARD HAD TO PULL OVER. WE TOWED IT TO BROOKINGS OR AND HAD THE FRONT END ALIGNED 00 . IN THE FALL WE TRAVELED TO OKLAHOMA AND WE WERE DRIVING JEEP ON A FREEWAY AND @ ABOUT 55 IT STARTED THAT SHIMMY AGAIN, SO WE BROUGHT NEW TIRES FOR IT. WE JUST TOOK IT BACK TO TIRE SHOP 2 WEEKS AGO FOR ANOTHER ALIGNMENT 00, SERVICE GUY TOLD US WE SHOULD CHECK WITH ANY RECALLS ON OUR JEEP. NEVER COULD GET RID OF THE SHIMMY! WOULD BE HAPPY FOR A FIX. *TR
WHEN REFUELING VEHICLE, GAS PUMP AUTO-SHUT-OFF FAILS AND GASOLINE SPILLS OUT FILLER NECK ONTO REAR PANEL AND GROUND. DEPENDING ON HANDLE SETTING, SPILL IS EITHER BACKSPLASH OR JUST OVERFLOW, BUT ALWAYS SPILLS. *TR

I PURCHASED AN '06 JEEP WRANGLER SE, COMPLETELY STOCK. FROM THE FIRST TIME I REFUELED TO THIS DAY IF I LET IT FILL UP ALL THE WAY GAS COMES POURING OUT AFTER THE PUMP CLICKS OFF. 2006 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON - DURING EVERY FUELING THE FUEL TANK WILL OVERFLOW, THIS ALLOWS GAS TO RUN ON THE GROUND AND ON MY PERSON IF STANDING TOO CLOSE TO THE VEHICLE. *TR
BEGINNING TWO YEARS AGO, GASOLINE BEGAN TO OVERFLOW FROM THE FILL SPOUT OF MY 2006 JEEP WRANGLER WHENEVER I FILLED THE TANK TO ANYWHERE NEAR ITS FULL CAPACITY. TO THIS DAY THIS CONTINUES TO RESULT IN GASOLINE SPILLING ON VEHICLE MYSELF AND THE GROUND ALMOST EVERY TIME I FILL MY TANK. THE ONLY REMEDY I HAVE FOUND IS TO NOT FILL THE TANK ALL THE WAY UP, WHICH IS SOMETIME DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP DETERMINED I NEEDED A NEW FUEL TANK INSTALLED ($700). I HAVE NOT HAD THE TANK REPLACED AS THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE PROBLEM WILL NOT OCCUR AGAIN AS THE PARTS ARE, TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, NOT UPDATED FROM THE PARTS ON THE VEHICLE NOW. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM NOT BEING PROPERLY ADDRESSED OR EVEN ADMITTED TO BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
2006 JEEP WRANGLER. FILLING UP THE TANK AND GAS POURS OUT INSTEAD OF SHUTTING OFF WHEN FULL. *TR
FUEL SPILLS FROM FUEL TANK. THE PUMP WILL SHUT OFF BUT THE FUEL WILL EJECT OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE. I HAVE BEEN SPLASHED WITH FUEL. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM WITH FUELING. EVEN RUNNING THE PUMP AT LOWEST SPEED THE CONDITION STILL OCCURS. IF I SHUT THE PUMP HANDLE OFF EARLY, IT WILL SOMETIMES PREVENT THE SPILL. NOT ALWAYS. *TR
MY 2006 JEEP WRANGLER TJ EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS THE GAS COMES SPEWING OUT INSTEAD OF SHUTTING OFF. I AM VERY CAREFUL & TRY TO LISTEN TO CATCH IT...NOPE ...SPEWS GAS AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I FIND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. ITS A VARIETY OF JEEPS FROM 2000 - 2006. *TR
WHEN I FILL MY 2006 JEEP WRANGLER WITH FUEL IT SPRAYS OUT OF THE TANK BACK TOWARDS THE PUMP BEFORE SHUTTING OFF, EVERY TIME. IT OVERFILLS THE TANK. IT'S DISCOLORING THE PAINT ON MY VEHICLE, IT CAUSES A GAS SPILL ON THE PAVEMENT, AND IT OFTEN GETS FUEL ON MY HAND AND CLOTHES. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SINCE IT HAD 19,000 MILES ON IT. IT NOW HAS 42,000, AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. A COUPLE THOUSAND MILES AGO I INSTALLED A 1" BODY LIFT AS I HAD HEARD THAT SOMETIMES FIXES THE PROBLEM, AND THE ISSUE CONTINUES THE SAME AS BEFORE. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON AND WELL TALKED ABOUT COMPLAINT IN THE JEEP COMMUNITY, AND AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD. FOR INCIDENT DATE I'M JUST GOING TO SELECT TODAY, AS THAT'S THE MOST RECENT TIME IT'S HAPPENED. *TR

HAVE A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER WITH 24,000 MILES WHICH IS EXPERIENCING FRONT WHEEL SHAKING AT ABOUT 40-45 MPH AND WHEN BRAKING. ALIGNMENT, TIRES, ETC. ARE GOOD WITH NO AFTERMARKET MODIFICATIONS DONE TO SUSPENSION. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH WRANGLERS AND IS EVEN CALLED AND KNOWN AS A "DEATH WOBBLE." NO CRASHES, BUT DEALER WILL CHARGE TO INVESTIGATE AND FIX. AS MENTIONED, THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH WRANGLERS, THEREFORE, ISN'T IT A MANUFACTURING FLAW THAT JEEP NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR? *TR
GAS SPURTS OUT OF TANK WHEN I FILL IT UP AND DRIPS ALL OVER GAS STATION FLOOR. THE GAS PUMP DOES NOT STOP ONCE ITS FULL LIKE OTHER CARS AND IM WORRIED SPILLED FUEL COULD IGNITE. ALSO BAD FOR ENVIRONMENT. *TR

I OWN A 2006 JEEP RUBICON WRANGLER... EVERY FILL UP THE GAS TANK OVERFLOWS SPILLING AT LEAST 2-3 CUPS WORTH OF GASOLINE ALL OVER MY JEEP, THE GROUND AND SOMETIMES ON ME. I FEEL THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFTEY HAZARD BUT AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD AS WELL.
