TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING. TOOK VEHICLE (3.8L V6 4X4) IN FOR TRANS COOLER LINE REPLACEMENT. WAS TOLD BY DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT COOLER LINE CONNECTION PARTS WERE BAD (NOTE: THIS IS A RECALL ITEM ON THE 2009 3.6 L ENGINE). *TR
DEATH WOBBLE, UNCONTROLLABLE VIOLENT SHAKING BETWEEN 30 & 50 MPH. SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BEING UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE'S STEERING OUT OF HARMS WAY. I HAVE HAD IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AND I'M TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. IT'S OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE. CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD DRIVE SIDE, BROKEN BOLT ON PASSENGER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD
ON MY 2009 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DASHBOARD, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT FLASHES EVERY FEW MINUTES WITH A CHIME, AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONING OR INTERFERING WITH THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS. I HAVE MY 2009 JEEP WRANGLER AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT HAS A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING WITHIN THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE AND CONCERN FOR MANY 2008, 2009 AND LATER JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) OWNERS. THIS FAULTY CLOCKSPRING IS THE CULPRIT FOR POTENTIAL AIRBAG FAILURE IN THE 2009 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DURING AN ACCIDENT OR PREMATURE DEPLOYMENT WHEN SIMPLY DRIVING AROUND. I HAVE CALLED JEEP/CHRYSLER AND THEY REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY CONCERN OF THEIR FAULTY CLOCKSPRING THAT CAN CAUSE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS FROM PROPERLY DEPLOYING. I EVEN POINTED OUT TO THEM THAT 2007 (LHD) JEEP WRANGLERS HAD THEIR WARRANTIES EXTENDED TO 150,000 MILES OR 10 YEARS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE AND ALL 2008-2012 (RHD) HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11019. RECALL 11V528). TO SUPPORT THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE, WHEN I CALLED A JEEP DEALERSHIP'S PARTS DEPARTMENT THEY TOLD ME THE CLOCKSPRING FOR MY 2009 JEEP WRANGLER HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED BY 8 PART NUMBERS. THAT IS 8 TIMES THEY HAVE WORKED ON FIXING THIS PART, BUT THEY REFUSE TO WARRANTY ON MY 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. *TR
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT AND WARNING TONE STARTED COMING ON AND TURNING OFF IN APPROX. ONE MINUTE CYCLES.I LOOKED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND IT WARNED OF A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH MY AIR BAG AND IT NEEDED TO BE RETURNED TO THE DEALER ASAP. THE DEALER CHECKED IT AND SAID THAT THE AIR BAG CLOCK SPRING, IS BROKEN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER SERVICE CONSULTANT WARNED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY GO OFF ON ITS OWN WHEN BEING OPERATED NORMALLY OR, NOT AT ALL IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THIS JEEP IS A LEFT HAND DRIVE VEHICLE AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IN DOING ON LINE RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME KIND. I FEEL THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPLACE IT AT THEIR COST BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE ON A FAIRLY NEW VEHICLE, ALSO THE RIGHT HAND DRIVE CARS ARE UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
DRIVING ON I10 NEAR CASA GRAND AZ OCT 4 2013 NOTICED VIBRATION. PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED TIRES AND ALL OK. DROVE SLOWER AND HEADED TO HOME... HEARD BANG... HEAVY RUMBLE VIBRATION PULLED OVER WITH FLAT TIRE AND INCREDIBLE DELAMINATION DAMAGE TO TIRE AND WHEEL WELL. *TR
I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN THAT MY 4 YEAR OLD VEHICLE HAS A MAJOR FAILURE IN ITS AIR BAG SAFETY SYSTEM. I'VE CALLED THE DEALER AND ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ON MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD NO. I THEN WROTE TO JEEP WHICH INVOLVED A TIMELY PROCESS OF JOINING A JEEP MEMBER CLUB. AFTER COMPLAINING TO JEEP I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL OR WARRANTY LEFT ON MY VEHICLE. HOW CAN YOU SELL A VEHICLE AND OFFER FINANCING BUT THEY CANT WARRANTY A PART THAT HAS FAILED , AND IS NOT A COMMONLY REPLACED OR WEARABLE ITEM. ONLY TO FIND ITS REPLACEMENT PART IS ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH THE DEALER. I HAVE OWNED AND OPERATED A REPAIR FACILITY FOR 7 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A CLOCKSPRING ON SUCH A NEW VEHICLE . BEING A RARE FIX EVEN ON AN OLDER VEHICLE. USUALLY ONLY REPLACED AFTER AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE HELP!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO SPECIFY WHY THE FAILURE OCCURRED, BUT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,907. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BOUGHT MY 2009 WRANGLER X 2 DOOR AUTOMATIC WITH 13K MILES AND PERFECT CONDITION WITH ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES. SIGNED LOAN PAPERS AND DROVE AROUND THE CORNER TO MY WORK TO FILL UP ON GAS. WHILE PUMPING GAS, GAS SQUIRTED BACK OUT OF THE FILLER NECK AND COVERED MY PANTS, BOOTS, THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND RAN DOWN THE PAINT AND ONTO THE TIRES AND RIMS AS WELL. GAS EVERYWHERE! HAD NO CHANGE OF CLOTHES AND NOTHING TO WIPE GAS OFF THE PAINT, TIRES, AND PLASTIC FENDER. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! EVERY FILL UP RESULTS IN GAS SPEWING OUT ONTO THE JEEP AND GROUND AND IF MY WIFE, KIDS, OR ME ISN'T PAYING ATTENTION THEN WE ARE WEARING THE GAS AS WELL. THANK GOD NO OPEN FLAME OR KABOOM. I SEE FIXES FOR 2007/2008 BUT APPARENTLY OTHER YEARS SUFFER AS WELL WITH THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. IMMEDIATE FIX NEEDED. MAY CONSULT LEGAL ADVICE ON THIS MATTER AS DEALERSHIP REFUSES HELP. *TR
WARNING LIGHT FOR AIRBAG SYSTEM IS ACTIVATING EVERY 30-50 SECONDS. CONTACTED MY SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THEY STATED IT IS A "CLOCK SPRING" IN THE STEERING SYSTEM. APPARENTLY, THERE ARE MANY CLAIMS FOR THIS FROM JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS. *TR
WHEN YOU TRY TO TAKE OFF YOUR SEAT BELT IT IS STUCK AND WONT RELEASE. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. YOU HAVE TO RIP IT OUT. *TR
DRIVERS AIR BAG LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY AND RANDOMLY. *TR
GAS SPRAYS OUT OF FILLER NECK DURING FUELING OF VEHICLE. DURING FILL UPS GAS WILL SPRAY OUT OF FILLER NECK BEFORE THE GAS NOZZLE CAN SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY. THIS RESULTS IN HAVING GAS SPRAYED ON MYSELF, MY JEEP AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. THIS IS NOT A SAFE SITUATION. *TR

CONSUMER STATED THAT AROUND 32,000 MILES, HIS VEHICLE DEVELOPED WHAT IS CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE", UNCONTROLLED SHIMMY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHICH ONLY RESOLVES BY BRAKING AND COMING TO A NEAR STOP. AFTER GREAT EFFORT, CHRYSLER REIMBURSED THE CONSUMER $849.07 OF THE $ 1793.47 HE PAID TO HAVE THE ENTIRE FRONT END REBUILT. *LN THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPER WITH AN UPDATED ASSEMBLY WHICH REQUIRED DIFFERENT HARDWARE, TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER FOR REIMBURSEMENT, FOR $336.67. THEY REIMBURSEMENT HIM FOR THE PARTS ONLY. THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS, SO THE DEALER DID A COMPLETE EXAMINATION OF THE VEHICLE, AND FOUND ALL 4 BALL JOINTS AND DRAG LINK WERE OUT OF SPECIFICATIONS. *JB
AIR BAG LIGHT/CHIME BEGAN ILLUMINATING FREQUENTLY (APPROXIMATELY ONCE EVERY FEW MINUTES) THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF EVERY DRIVE, REGARDLESS OF DISTANCE OR SPEED. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE CLOCK SPRING WAS DEFECTIVE. PART WAS REPLACED UNDER A CONSUMER PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTY. *JB
WHILE TRAVELING DOWN A PUBLIC DIRT ROAD (FIRE ROAD) AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH A "DING" WAS HEARD. WHEN I LOOKED DOWN A THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THE AIRBAG INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HUNTER DODGE LOCATED IN PALMDALE, CA. ON 21AUG13 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED TO HAVE A BAD CLOCK SPRING MECHANISM. *TR
IN AUGUST 2013 MY JEEP WRANGLER BEGAN TO DEVELOP AN UNPREDICTABLE, UNCONTROLLABLE, VIOLENT SHIMMY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SOMETIMES A SMALL BUMP OR A LANE CHANGE WOULD SET AN EVENT OFF. SHIMMY DID NOT STOP WITHOUT HARD BRAKING AND COMING TO A NEAR STOP. COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS "DEATH WOBBLE". THE FIRST ATTEMPT AT REPAIR, MILEAGE 30,381, WAS TO REPLACE THE FACTORY INSTALLED STEERING DAMPER WITH A UPGRADED STEERING DAMPER. THE NEW STEERING DAMPER REQUIRED DIFFERENT HARDWARE TO INSTALL. MY COST, $366.77 WHICH CHRYSLER REIMBURSED THE COST OF PARTS @ $266.77. I AM $100.00 OUT OF POCKET FOR LABOR COSTS TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE PART WHICH WAS INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY! THE PROBLEM OF UNCONTROLLED SHIMMY WAS NOT FIXED! THE SECOND ATTEMPT TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE, MILEAGE 32,982, WAS TO BALANCE AND ROTATE ALL TIRES. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED! THE THIRD ATTEMPT TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE, MILEAGE 33,902, INVOLVED REPLACING ALL FOUR DEFECTIVE BALL JOINTS AND A DEFECTIVE DRAG LINK ASSEMBLY. COST TO ME, $1793.47. CHRYSLER EVENTUALLY REIMBURSED THE COST OF PARTS @ $849.07. ON THIS REPAIR I AM OUT OF POCKET $944.40 LABOR COSTS TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE PARTS AS INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY! I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU (CASE #9919310) AND THE CASE IS STILL ONGOING. NO VEHICLE OPERATED UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS SHOULD HAVE TO HAVE MAJOR COMPONENTS, WHICH AFFECT VEHICLE CONTROL AND SAFETY, FAIL AND NEED REPLACEMENT AT LESS THAN 34,000 HIGHWAY DRIVEN MILES! I DO NOT READ ANYWHERE ON MY SERVICE RECEIPTS STATING THE PARTS THAT HAVE BEEN REPLACED CARRY ANY WARRANTY. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT GENUINE JEEP PARTS ARE OF THE SAME QUALITY AS ORIGINALLY USED BY JEEP TO MANUFACTURE MY VEHICLE, AND WILL FAIL AGAIN WITHIN THE NEXT 30,000 TO 35,000 MILES, IF NOT SOONER! *TR
GASOLINE SPLASHES BACK FROM TANK UPON FILLING, SPILLING FUEL ON ME, THE VEHICLE, AND GROUND. THIS HAPPENS AT EVERY GAS STATION WITH EVERY FILL-UP FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS. DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO PROBLEM. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE PULLING OUT OF RESIDENCE. THE HORN NOR THE CRUISE CONTROL CURRENTLY WORK. AFTER SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, DISCOVERED THERE ARE MANY INSTANCES OF THIS EXACT PROBLEM (CLOCKSPRING). CHRYSLER ACKNOWLEDGES PROBLEMS WITH THE CLOCKSPRING IN THE RIGHT HAND DRIVE VERSION OF JEEP WRANGLER, AND THE 2007 LEFT HAND DRIVE MODELS, BUT NOTHING AFTER. AFTER SPEAKING WITH CHRYSLER, THEY TOLD ME THEY SIMPLY "DON'T CARE, BECAUSE WE'VE NEVER HEARD OF A SINGLE COMPLAINT REGARDING IT", WHICH IS QUITE SURPRISING CONSIDERING ALL THE COMPLAINTS I WAS ABLE TO FIND ONLINE. *TR
THE IGNITION COIL CRACKED CAUSING LOSS OF POWER. THIS IS THE FOURTH IGNITION COIL TO BE INSTALLED IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR

DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAS REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY CONCERN OF THEIR FAULTY CLOCKSPRING THAT CAN CAUSE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS FROM PROPERLY DEPLOYING. I HAD TO HAVE THE JEEP SEALER IN BAKERSFIELD, CA. REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS COST ME $569.43 AND I FEEL IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. *TR
EVERY TIME I PUMP GAS INTO MY VEHICLE, IT SPITS BACK GAS AS IT NEARS THE FULL PORTION OF GAS TANK. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I PUMP GAS INTO VEHICLE EITHER WITH AUTO PUMP OR BY HOLDING FUEL PUMP NOZZLE. *TR
AIRBAG FAILURE ILLUMINATION, TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY INDICATE THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS THE ISSUE AND MAY CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY WITH OUT A CRASH. I CONTACTED JEEP THEY INDICATED THAT THIS WAS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, THEY DID SAY THEY WOULD CHIP IN AND ONLY CHARGE ME $600.00.BUT THAT OFFER WAS ONLY GOOD FOR 30 DAYS AFTER I REPORTED THE ISSUE. THIS LEFT ME WITH NO OTHER RECOURSE OTHER THEN PAYING THE $600.00 TO PULL THE FUSE TO THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. I NOW NOTE THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM ON RIGHT HAND DRIVE VEHICLES LIKE MINE. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY HAVE REFUSED TO COVER THIS ISSUE. SO KNOW I TURN TO YOU.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT ACTUATED AND UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT IT IS SYMPTOMATIC WITH THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. I CONTACTED A DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER WITH NO RESOLUTION. THERE IS A RECALL OUT FOR THE CLOCK SPRING IN 2008-2012 MODELS BUT IT IS IN A LIMITED LOT NUMBER. THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS INTERMITTENT AND ONLY WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS ROTATED. *TR
I'M SURE YOU'RE AWARE THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH JEEP WRANGLER YEARS 2007, 08 AND 09 WHERE UPON FILLING UP THE TANK AND ONCE IT REACHES THE TOP, INSTEAD OF THE PUMP CLICKING OFF, FUEL (A LOT OF IT) SPITS OUT OF THE TANK AND ALL OVER THE BUMPER AND THE GROUND. TO CHRYSLER'S CREDIT, IF YOU COMPLAIN, THEY WILL REIMBURSE YOU FOR THE REPAIRS BUT IT IS TEDIOUS AND OFTEN TIMES, PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD THE MONEY UP FRONT SO CHRYSLER WINS BY ATTRITION ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY WEREN'T FORCED TO HAVE A RECALL. I UNDERSTAND THAT NHTSA HAS CLOSED THIS ISSUE BUT IT IS BAD. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE FUEL POURING OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE AND ONTO YOUR SHOES, CAR AND THE GROUND, EVERY TIME YOU FILLED UP? MY NEXT STEP IS TO REPORT IT TO THE EPA FOR CERTAINLY, FUEL SPILLS OF THIS MAGNITUDE CANNOT BE LEGAL. IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, CAN YOU RE-ADDRESS THIS FOR THE INEVITABILITY IS THAT A 'PERFECT STORM' SCENARIO WILL OCCUR AND WHILE FUEL SPEWING PROBLEM IS HAPPENING, STATIC ELECTRICITY FROM THE CONSUMER COULD IGNITE IT OR EVEN SOME CARELESS AND UNSAFE SMOKER IS TOO CLOSE. AFTER DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE AND PARKING, I RETURNED TO FIND ONE TIRE FLAT. I CHANGED THE TIRE AND RETURNED HOME. THE FOLLOWING MORNING I CHECKED THE DAMAGED TIRE AND FOUND THE VALVE STEM MISSING. I DROVE TO A SERVICE CENTER AND HAD THE TIRE REMOVED. THE STEM (WITH SPEED SENSOR ATTACHED) WAS LOOSE INSIDE THE TIRE. WE CHECKED THE REMAINING THREE WHEELS AND FOUND ALL WHEELS HAD BADLY CORRODED STEM NUTS, AND THAT ONE OF THE NUTS WAS CRACKED INTO THREE PIECES. REMOVING ALL STEM NUTS DAMAGED THE SENSORS AND ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE "NEW" PARTS ARE ALL OF THE SAME MATERIALS AS THE ORIGINAL ITEMS, THUS I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE SENSORS, STEMS, AND STEM NUTS EVERY 2-3 YEARS UNLESS A FIX IS INITIATED. *TR
AT HIGHWAY SPEED (50-70 MPH) VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY AFTER HITTING A BUMP. VEHICLE NEEDS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP TO CORRECT THE WOBBLE. AFTER A LITTLE ON LINE RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED "DEATH WOBBLE." SERVICE WRITERS AT BOTH MILOSCH PALACE JEEP AND AL DEEBY JEEP KNEW RIGHT AWAY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS. IT SEEMS EVERYONE WITH KNOWLEDGE OF JEEPS IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ON HIGHWAYS\INTERSTATES, ESPECIALLY FOR INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO COME TO A STOP TO IN ORDER TO STOP THE WOBBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BOTH AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE STEERING DAMPER WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,900. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ON THE 2009 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DASHBOARD, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT FLASHES ON EVERY OTHER MINUTE WITH A CHIME, AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONING OR INTERFERING WITH THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS.THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE AND CONCERN FOR MANY 2009 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) OWNERS, INCLUDING MYSELF, AND HAS BEEN SHOWN TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING WITHIN THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL. THIS FAULTY CLOCKSPRING IS THE CULPRIT FOR POTENTIAL AIRBAG FAILURE IN THE 2009 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DURING AN ACCIDENT OR PREMATURE DEPLOYMENT WHEN SIMPLY DRIVING AROUND. DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAS REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY CONCERN OF THEIR FAULTY CLOCKSPRING THAT CAN CAUSE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS FROM PROPERLY DEPLOYING. *TR
VEHICLES AIR BAG LIGHT BLINKED AND ALARM SOUNDED. THIS WOULD GO ON AND OFF FOR A FEW DAYS THEN STAYED ON ALL THE TIME. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER AND THEY INDICATED IT WAS A BAD CLOCK SPRING. THE REPAIR COST WAS $507.39 TO HARR JEEP IN WORCESTER MA JULY 13, 2013. I CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY INDICATED ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE AND PART FELL INTO A RECALL PERIOD, ONLY RH DRIVE VEHICLES WERE RECALLED. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH MANY WRANGLERS, DIFFERENT YEARS AND CONFIGURATIONS, AS WELL AS OTHER JEEP VEHICLES INCLUDING THE CHEROKEE AND LIBERTY. JEEP INFORMED ME THE PART WAS NOT DESIGNED TO LAST FOR THE "LIFE OF THE VEHICLE", AND THEREFORE WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY. I BELIEVE THIS ONGOING PROBLEM FOR JEEP EXTENDS TO MY VEHICLE AND MANY OTHERS LIKE IT. I HAVE GREAT CONCERN WHEN THE PRIMARY SAFETY COMPONENT IN THE VEHICLE DOES NOT LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS SAFETY ISSUE CAN CAUSE A FAILURE OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. JEEPS IRRESPONSIBILITY IN RECALLING THIS PUTS THOUSANDS OF DRIVERS AT RISK EACH DAY. THE HIGH COST OF REPAIR WILL LEAD TO MANY OPERATORS USING THE VEHICLE WITH THE SYSTEM COMPROMISED BY THIS FAULT. I REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FROM JEEP FOR THIS REPAIR STATING THE SIMILARITIES OF MY PROBLEM TO OTHERS IDENTIFIED BY JEEP AS RECALLS. I ALSO SHARED MY CONCERN OF CONSUMER SAFETY. WHILE FUELING MY VEHICLE THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF ON THE FUEL NOZZLE SHUTS OFF AND SHORTLY AFTER FUEL BEGINS TO COME BACK UP OUT OF THE JEEP AND DOWN THE SIDE. HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. *TR
TODAY WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH KIDS HIT A BUMP IN ROAD AT 35 MPH AND THE JEEP WENT INTO DEATH WOBBLE. THEN SOMETHING BROKE AND I LOST ALL STEERING POWER AND COULD NOT TURN WHEELS. ALMOST HAD A WRECK. WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE TO A PLACE TO LOOK AT IT THE STEERING BOX HAD BROKEN OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE SPEED WAS REDUCED TO 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SOME FRONT END PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE SPECIFIC PARTS THAT NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE MECHANIC BUT THE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
DRIVING AT 50 MPH AND FASTER, WHEN THE VEHICLE HITS A BUMP THE STEERING STARTS TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THE WHEELS SHIMMY FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND ONLY STOPS WHEN THE VEHICLE SLOWS TO BELOW 40 MPH, AND IN SOME INSTANCES ONLY STOPS WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS IS EXTREMELY SCARY AND DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN IT OCCURS ON THE HIGHWAY, AS YOU NEED TO WEAVE THROUGH TRAFFIC AT A HIGH SPEED TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. THIS ISSUE IS WELL KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE JEEP COMMUNITY, AS IT HAS IT'S OWN NICKNAME THE "DEATH WOBBLE". CHRYSLER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS HAS BECOME A COMMON ISSUE AMONG THEIR VEHICLES; HOWEVER, HAS DONE NOTHING IN THE FORM OF RECALLS OR SERVICE TO HELP CUSTOMERS FIX THE ISSUE. IN A REPORT BY ABC NEWS, THEY STATED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 600 REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUE I HAVE EXPERIENCED. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A CHRYSLER CERTIFIED AUTO SHOP TO GET IT FIXED AND THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. THEY DID A FRONT END ALIGNMENT ON MY CAR SAYING THAT MIGHT FIX THE PROBLEM; HOWEVER, IT DID NOT. THE "DEATH WOBBLE" HAS OCCURRED IN MY VEHICLE 5 TIMES SINCE THE INITIAL INCIDENT IN APRIL. *TR
LAST NIGHT I TURNED MY CAR ON...I NOTICED THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYED ON LONGER THAN USUAL IT WENT OF BUT A COUPLE MINUTES LATER IT LIGHTED UP AGAIN FOR A COUPLE SECONDS AND FROM THEN IT HAS BEEN DOING IT, WHILE DRIVING IT I NOTICED THAT MY CRUISE CONTROL AND HORN ARE NOT WORKING. I READ A LOT ABOUT THE ISSUE AND I CAN FOR SURE SAY ITS THE CLOCK SPRING, THIS MAKES A LOT OF SENSE WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2009 I RECEIVED THE CAR WITH A BROKEN CLOCK SPRING I HAD TO GO BACK THE NEXT DAY SO THEY COULD REPLACE IT. *TR
MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OUT. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL AUTO SERVICE. AFTER TESTING IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A NORMAL LEFT HAND DRIVE JEEP WRANGLER 2009. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM IN PREVIOUS YEARS AND WAS ON RECALL DURING THOSE YEARS. DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE LIGHT ON IS A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE YET RESOLVED BY JEEP. I AM LOOKING TO HAE MY MONEY REFUNDED FOR THE CORRECTION OF THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. FUEL SPURTS OUT OF GAS TANK ALL OVER AFTER GAS NOZZLE IS REMOVED WHEN GETTING GAS. VEHICLE HAS TROUBLE STARTING AND FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL OUT AT ALL SPEEDS. *TR
GAS IS EJECTED OUT OF FUEL FILLER WHEN TANK IS FILLED EVERYTIME. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT STATIONS ALL WITH THE SAME RESULT OF ABOUT 3 CUPS OF FUEL EJECTED ON CAR AND THE GROUND. TWO SERVICE STATIONS HAVE ASKED THAT I DO NOT RETURN BECAUSE OF THE FUEL SPILL DANGER THIS CREATES AT THE SERVICE STATION. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP AND TWO DEALERSHIPS BOTH ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND RECALLED THE 2007 AND 2008 WRANGLERS FOR THIS BUT 2009 HAS NOT BEEN ADDED TO THE RECALL. THIS IS A FIRE AND EVIROMENTAL HAZARD TO HUMANS AND THE ENVIROMENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45MPH I EXPERIENCED A VIOLET SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE SPEED SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 15MPH. I RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND SOMEONE SAID JEEP USED A BOLT SMALLER THAN THE HOLE ON A TRACK BAR THAT CONNECTS THE FRONT AXLE TO THE VEHICLE AND THIS GETS WALLOWED OUT AND CAUSES THIS. *TR
FUEL SPITS BACK DURING REFUELING CAUSE: VALVE INTEGRATED IN FUEL TANK IS DEFECTIVE, TANK REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND A SERVICE-BULLETIN WAS ISSUED (14-001-11) WITH UNLIMITED TIME AND MILEAGE EXPIRATION. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE GAS TANK HAS A DESIGN FLAW AND SOMEHOW A DEFECTIVE TANK WAS PLACED IN MY VEHICLE, I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE SHOULD APPLY TO THE SERVICE BULLETIN THE SYMPTOMS AND CORRECTIVE ACTION ARE THE SAME
I HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT A YEAR AGO I STARTED HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES INSIDE THE STEERING WHEEL OF MY 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. I WAS TOLD IT IS CALLED THE CLOCK SPRING. WITH A BAD CLOCK SPRING, MY HORN AND CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK, AND ALSO MY AIR BAG LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE KNOWING MY AIR BAGS ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. ALSO, WITH A BAD CLOCK SPRING THERE ARE CHANCES OF MY AIR BAG ACTIVATING RANDOMLY FOR NO REASON SO THAT REALLY WORRIES ME. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN WRECKED INTO SEVERAL TIMES AND I AM NOT ABLE TO HONK MY HORN. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, I WAS BASICALLY TOLD THAT IT HAS BEEN A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN 2008-2012 JK JEEP WRANGLERS BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART TO FIX IT. I FIGURED THERE WOULD BE A RECALL FOR IT SINCE IT IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT ONLY THE RIGHT HAND DRIVE JEEP WRANGLERS HAD A CLOCK SPRING RECALL. I BELIEVE THE RECALL NUMBER FOR THOSE ARE M31 AND L37. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE LEFT HAND DRIVE 2009 JK JEEP WRANGLERS ARE EXCLUDED FROM THIS RECALL. THIS IS VERY HAZARDOUS AND I FEEL UNSAFE KNOWING MY AIR BAGS MAY NOT WORK AND ALSO KNOWING I COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF MY AIR BAGS GO OFF RANDOMLY. I WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH WHEN I HEARD A SOUND FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO DISCOVER MY TIRE WAS COMPLETELY FLAT AND THE VALVE STEM HAD COME LOOSE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, THE FIRST WAS BACK IN NOVEMBER. THE TIME SPAN FOR THE LATEST INCIDENT WAS APPROX. 10-15 SECONDS. A RAPID DEFLATION. I HAD JUST PUT NEW TIRES ON THE JEEP IN NOV. NOW ONE OF THEM IS DESTROYED. I TALKED TO TWO JEEP DEALERS SINCE THE EVENT ON 3/8/13. BOTH OF THEM SAID THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE PARTS FAILING IN NORTHERN STATES DUE TO CORROSION AND THAT IF " I LIVED IN CALIFORNIA, THIS WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE." I WAS OFFERED NEW RUBBER TMPS STEMS FOR $433.00. NOT SATISFACTORY. I FEEL I WAS LUCKY THAT THIS WAS NOT A FRONT TIRE! *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP WRANGLER 2009, I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE CAR WENT INTO THE DEATH WOBBLE - VIOLENTLY SHAKING FROM SIDE-TO-SIDE. AIR BAG LAMP ILLUMINATES INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER RAN DIAGNOSTIC ON VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THE CLOCK SPRING IS BAD. PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND MAYBE A MONTH BEFORE IN STOCK. AIR BAG IS DEACTIVATED WHEN LAMP ILLUMINATES. DEALER IS NOT COVERING REPAIR DUE TO WARRANTY EXPIRED. *TR
RECURRING PROBLEM OF FUEL OVERFLOW SPILLAGE AT THE GAS PUMP FOR THE PAST YEAR. REGARDLESS OF WHICH FUEL STATION I USE, THE PUMP DOES NOT SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY CAUSING FUEL TO SPILL OUT OF THE VEHICLE ONTO THE GROUND. IN RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM IT APPEARS IT MAY BE BASED ON A FAULTY MANUFACTURER PART (FUEL TANK). IF THIS OCCURS ON OTHER JEEPS, THE FUEL SPILLED AT THESE GAS STATIONS CREATE POTENTIAL TPH CONTAMINATION ON THE PROPERTY. I AM CONCERNED WITH THE ROLE I PLAY ON A POTENTIAL BENZENE PLUME IN GROUNDWATER DUE FROM SPILLS AT GAS STATIONS AS WELL AS THE DAMAGE I AM DOING TO THE EXTERIOR OF MY VEHICLE FROM FUEL SPILLING OVER THE SIDE CAUSING ACCELERATED CORROSION ON THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
