EVERY TIME SINCE FEBRUARY WHEN I HIT A BUMP THE JEEP STARTS SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I KEEP HEARING OF IT BEING THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE. IT HAS TORN UP MY TIRES AND AFFECTED MANY PARTS AND NOW I CAN NOT EVEN HIT A BUMP AT 30 MPH WITHOUT IT STARTING TO SHAKE. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO TO FIX. I CALLED MY DEALER TO SEE WHAT THEY SUGGESTED AND THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE WHICH CHRYSLER HAD APPARENTLY SENT OUT A NOTICE TO ALL COMPANIES ABOUT IT. I HAVE HEARD OF SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THIS. MY JEEP IS STOCK AND NEVER BEEN MODIFIED AND NEVER BEEN TAKEN OFF ROAD. IT IS A FAMILY VEHICLE AND NOW I JUST WANT TO GET RID OF IT! *TR
DRIVING TO WORK AT 5 AM, AND HIT A UNEVEN PATCH OF PAVEMENT AND FRONT END OF JEEP BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY; LIKE BOTH TIRES WENT FLAT. I INSPECTED, BUT TIRES WERE NOT DAMAGED. AFTER A FEW MORE DAYS OF THIS HAPPENING ON REGULAR OCCURENCE, I MADE APPT. AT AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP IN MY HOMETOWN. THEY INSPECTED AND SAID STEERING DAMPNER WENT BAD. A COUPLE DAYS LATER, SAME PROBLEM STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN. MADE APPOINTMENT AND DEALER SUGGESTED THAT BALANCE AND ROTATION WAS NEEDED TO CORRECT PROBLEM. HAD THAT DONE AND PROBLEM STARTED UP AGAIN VERY NEXT DAY. MADE ANOTHER APPT. WITH SAME DEALER AND THEY INSPECTED. I WAS TOLD THE DAMPNER THAT WAS INSTALLED WEEK PREVIOUS WAS BAD, SO THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN. WHEN THEY FINISHED INSTALLING SECOND DAMPNER, I ASKED WHAT NEXT STEP WAS IF THIS DIDN'T REMEDY ISSUE. THEY SIMPLY TOLD ME "WE DON'T KNOW. REPLACING DAMPNER AND BALANCE/ROTATION OF TIRES USUALLY FIXES IT." WHILE SEARCHING THE WEB FOR SIMILAR ISSUES ASSOCIATED, I CAME ACROSS ARTICLE AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE JEEP "DEATH WOBBLE." AFTER READING THRU NUMEROUS ONLINE FORUMS, AND WATCHING RELATED VIDEOS, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT MY JEEP IS EXPERIENCING EXACT AFFECTS. CALLED CHRYSLER AND REGISTERED COMPLAINT ON 11 MARCH 2013. ODDLY ENOUGH, THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE "DEATH WOBBLE" NOR HAD ANY RECENT COMPLAINTS OF THESE ISSUES. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE!!!! *TR
VEHICLE WILL SPIT BACK FUEL WHEN PERFORMING A FILL UP (AT TIME OF FILLING.). THE FUEL FORCEFULLY SHOOTS OUT OF THE REFUILING ACCESS POINT. AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT SPITS BACK IS CONDIDERABLE (THE BETTER OF A PINT;) ENOUGH TO COVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE REAR BUMPER (AS WELL AS ON MYSELF) AND WILL LEAVE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF FUEL ON THE PAVEMENT AT THE GAS STATION. I WILL POINT OUT THAT I NEVER TOP OFF THE TANK. I SIMPLY FILL UNTIL THE FUEL NOZZLE STOPS - A NORMAL WAY OF FUELING. THE "SPIT BACK" OCCURS WITHIN 1-2 SECONDS AFTER FUEILING IS COMPLETED. I HAVE CHECKED WITH CHRYSLER, AND THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. IN FACT, A TSB (14-001-11) AS WELL AS A WARRANTY EXTENSION WAS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE THE EXTENSION WAS ONLY ISSUED FOR 2007 AND 2008 MODELS. MY MODEL (2009) IS THE SAME VEHICLE, HOWEVER, I AM NOT BEING AFFORDED (BY CHRYSLER) THE SAME CONSIDERATION SIMPLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY MODEL YEAR EXCEEDS 2008. I VIEW THIS AS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE FACT THAT I AT MANY TIMES, I HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICL WHEN I NEED TO FUEL UP. I TRULY FEEL THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RECTIFIED FOR THE 2009 MODEL YEAR, AND FURTHER BELIEVE THAT I SHOULD BE AFFORDED THE SAME BENEFIT TO HAVE THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE - AS I AM EXPERIENCING THE IDENTICAL ISSUE. AGAIN, THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS IT REALLY IS A SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE NOTE THAT I SELECTED THAT THERE WAS AN "INJURY" DUE TO THE FACT THAT I HAD BEEN COVERED IN GASOLINE, WHICH IS KNOWN TO BE TOXIC. -THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP/CONSIDERATION. I WAS DRIVING HOME AT 60-65MPH FROM BALTIMORE WITH MY COUSIN, FIANC AND AUNT WHEN I HIT A MINOR POTHOLE. THE ENTIRE STEERING WHEEL/FRONT SECTION STARTS TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP IT UNTIL I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND SLOWED THE CAR DOWN TO ALMOST 25 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALMOST DROVE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENED 4 OTHER TIMES FOLLOWING THAT INCIDENT IN A MATTER OF 2 WEEKS? TIME. FINALLY I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE STEERING DAMPENER AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE IT. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE PART, EVEN THOUGH I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS VERY COMMON ON JEEPS AND ALTHOUGH THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY REPORTED DEATHS, I AM POSITIVE THIS WILL ONE DAY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT AND /OR DEATH. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT ON JEEP'S PART AND THEY NEED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE BEFORE THEY KILL SOMEONE. BY THE WAY, MY CAR ONLY HAS 37K MILES ON IT. STILL FAIRLY NEW! *TR
I HAVE EXPERIENCE WHAT IS COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS THE "WRANGLER DEATH WOBBLE" ON OVER THREE OCCASIONS. THESE ARE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHERE THE STEERING BEGINS TO WOBBLE UNCONTROLLABLY SIDE TO SIDE. THE VIOLENCE OF THE WOBBLE INCREASES QUICKLY MAKING IT TOUGH TO HOLD ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND MAINTAIN CONTROL, ESPECIALLY IF THIS OCCURS IN MULTI-LANE ROADS. INCREASING SPEED RESULTS IN THE WOBBLE BECOMING MORE VIOLENT. THE ONLY WAY TO RECOVER IS TO BRAKE QUICKLY AND BRING YOUR VEHICLE TO A NEAR STOP (AT LEAST UNDER 5 MPH) BEFORE THE WOBBLING SUBSIDES. THE "DEATH WOBBLE" APPEARS TO BE BROUGHT ON BY THE JEEP TIRES HITTING A POT HOLE, RAILROAD CROSSING, OR OTHER ROUGH SPOTS IN THE ROAD AT A SLIGHT ANGLE. USUALLY AROUND 35+ MPH. FASTER SPEEDS, SUCH AS HIGHWAY (55-75) DO NOT SEEM TO CREATE THE ISSUE BUT ACCELERATING TO ENTER A HIGHWAY DOES, AND HAS IN MY CASE AS YOU PASS BETWEEN 30-40MPH. TO RECOVER THE DRIVER AGGRESSIVELY APPLY THE BRAKES (WITHOUT WARNING TO THOSE BEHIND THEM) AS THE WOBBLE SEVERITY INCREASES QUICKLY. THIS CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE. THE WOBBLE ALSO HAS AN ADVERSE AFFECT ON THE STEERING DAMPERS WHICH SOON BEGIN LEAKING FLUIDS FROM THE VIOLENT WOBBLES. *TR
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND CONTINUES TO BEEP WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 65 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE JEEP STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO WRECK AND I WAS IN A PANIC. I SLOWED DOWN TO AN UNSAFE SPEED TO MAKE IT STOP. THEN I EXITED AND CHECKED THE VEHICLE OUT TO MY SURPRISE EVERYTHING WAS FINE. SO I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD AND CONTINUED ON. THEN I HAD TO EXIT AND IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. THIS TIME IS WAS SO VIOLENT I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO GO OFF THE EXIT AND CRASH. I HAVE NEVER HAD A LIFT ON MY JEEP OR ANYTHING IT IS ALL MANUFACTURE PARTS. I BELIEVE WITH ALL MY HEART THAT JEEP HAS MADE A FAULTY FRONT END. WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. PLEASE RECALL THIS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND GOING TO GET SOMEONE KILLED. *TR
MY 2009 WRANGLER HAS AN OVERFILLING PROBLEM EVERY SINGLE TIME I FILL UP AT THE GAS STATION. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I USE THE LOWEST SETTING ON THE GAS PUMP OR IF I MANUALLY USE AS LITTLE PRESSURE AS POSSIBLE. IT OVERFILLS EVERY SINGLE TIME AND GAS POURS OUT OF THE FILL SPOUT RUNNING DOWN THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE ON MY HAND ON MY CLOTHES AND ON THE GROUND. MY MECHANIC HAS BEEN IN TOUCH WITH JEEP WHO CLAIMS THEY HAVEN'T HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM, AND HE HAS ALSO CONTACTED CHRYSLER CORPORATION WHO HAS NOT RETURNED HIS PHONE CALLS. AT THIS POINT I JUST WANT THE PROBLEM FIXED BECAUSE THIS IS A HAZARDOUS MATERIAL THAT IS POURING OUT ONTO MY CAR, MY BODY, MY CLOTHES, AND THE GROUND. SOME ANSWERS AND/OR ACTION FROM JEEP/CHRYSLER WOULD BE GREAT! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V234000 (POWER TRAIN, STEERING) HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE TIME FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER ADVISED THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT DID NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE.
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
2009 JEEP WRANGLER X 2 DOOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION FIRST GEAR POPS OUT OF GEAR DURING ACCELERATION. SHIFT TO FIRST, LET OFF OF CLUTCH WITH OR WITHOUT THROTTLE APPLIED AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL KICK OUT OF FIRST GEAR, LEAVING THE VEHICLE AND OCCUPANTS IN NEUTRAL IN AN INTERSECTION, OR ON TRAIN TRACKS FROM A STOP, FORCING QUICK CLUTCH PEDAL APPLICATION AND SHIFTING INTO FIRST AGAIN, WITH THE PROBLEM MOST OFTEN RECURRING. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IN 3RD OF 5TH GEAR. DEALER DID A DIAGNOSIS PAID FOR BY OWNER, AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE 1/2 GEAR AND SYNCHRO GEARS. CHRYSLER HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT I WAS INELIGIBLE. VEHICLE HAD 20K MILES WHEN PURCHASED, 25000 WHEN DIAGNOSED, NOW AT 46,000 MILES, WITH AN EVEN MORE OFTEN OCCURRENCE. *TR
THE PAST 3 TIMES FILLING UP THE 2009 WRANGLER, FUEL GUSHED OUT OF THE TANK WHEN THE PUMP SHUT OFF. I TRIED DIFFERENT FUEL PUMPS EACH TIME, AND THEY WERE NOT THE CAUSE. I LOOKED ON LINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND RECALLED ON THE 07 AND 08 YEAR GROUPS, BUT NOT RECALLED ON THE 09 YEAR. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD FIX IMMEDIATELY. *TR
WHILE FUELING THE VEHICLE, AFTER THE PUMP AUTO-SHUT OFF ENGAGES, COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF FUEL ARE PROPELLED FROM THE TANK INLET; SPILLING ON THE VEHICLE, SERVICE STATION FLOOR, AND SOMETIMES THE DRIVER. THIS RECENTLY STARTED AND HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY SINCE THE INITIAL TIME, AT SEVERAL STATIONS AND SEVERAL PUMPS. OUR OTHER VEHICLES DO NOT DISPLAY THIS BEHAVIOR. *TR
WHEN FUELING, GASOLINE WILL SPLASH BACK FROM THE FILLER BEFORE THE PUMP STOPS CAUSING GAS TO SPILL ON THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ON THE GROUND. IT HAPPENS AT ANY GAS STATION ANYTIME THE VEHICLE IS FILLED UP. *TR
FUEL SPILLS OUT AFTER FUELING. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUALLY GOES OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING. *TR
ABOUT THREE OR FOUR DAYS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, I NOTICED UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE(2009 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON - LHD), THAT THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WAS LIT, INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. I HAD NOTICED PREVIOUSLY THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON, AND THEN GO AWAY, SO I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT. HOWEVER, ON THE DATE OF THE INCIDENT, AS I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A THIN PLASTIC WRAPPER "CRINKLING" AS IF CAUGHT BETWEEN THE STATIONARY PART OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE ROTATING REAR SECTION OF THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN I STOPPED THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED A FLAT STRIP PLASTIC ENCASED COPPER WIRE LEADS APPEARED TO BE UNRAVELING FROM BETWEEN THE STATIONARY PORTION OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE ROTATING REAR SECTION OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO MY AUTO REPAIR GARAGE, AND THE TECHNICIAN IDENTIFIED THE PART AS THE AIRBAG CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY. THE ASSEMBLY APPARENTLY FAILED DURING NORMAL VEHICLE USE AND NOW RESULTS IN A REDUCED LEVEL OF PROTECTION FOR MYSELF IN THE EVENT OF ACCIDENT. AFTER RESEARCHING THE MATTER, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF 2008, 2009 AND 2010 JEEP WRANGLERS (LHD) HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR FAILURES WITH THEIR AIRBAGS. THE REPAIR GARAGE ADVISED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON RHD JEEP WRANGLERS OF THE SAME MODEL YEARS FOR THE SAME ASSEMBLY. *TR
STARTING LAST FALL, THE VEHICLE SPITS BACK A CUP OR TWO OF FUEL EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE TANK. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE DOWN THE INTERSTATE FOR ABOUT 10 MIN AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 72MILES PER HR, MY JEEP STARTED SHAKING FROM THE FRONT AND BACK. IT WAS SO INTENSE I FELT AS THOUGH I WAS GOING TO CRASH. I HAVE HAD TIRES BLOW AND U JOINTS GO BAD AND THIS DIDN'T COMPARE. I DON'T DRIVE IN A ROUGH TERRAIN AND NOT OFTEN AT THESE SPEEDS. BUT I FELT AS THOUGH I HAD NO CONTROL. WHEN I DECELERATED TO 50 THE SHAKING HAD STOPPED. THERE HAD BEEN NO PREVIOUS WARNING OF THIS PROBLEM. WHEN TAKING IT IN TO GET LOOKED AT THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND MY UNIVERSALS NEED REPLACED, AXLE SEALS ARE BAD AND MY DRIVE SHAFT NEEDS TO BE REPLACE. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP THE GAS TANK A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL WILL SPIT BACK OUT OF THE TANK. THIS HAS OCCURRED EACH TIME I FILL MY TANK FROM 3 SEPARATE GAS STATIONS. IT APPEARS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL UP GAS. IT'S SPIT OUT GAS ON THE SIDE OF MY CAR AND ON THE GROUND. THIS HAPPENS FROM THE DAY I OWN THE CAR. THE GAS ATTENDANT TOLD ME THAT IT DOESN'T THAT WITH ALL THE NEWER JEEP.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. IT IS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HAPPENED AND THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG BUT OBVIOUSLY THERE IS. I SEE ALL OVER ABOUT PEOPLE ALL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOCK THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. THERE NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT. *TR
EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS FILLED, REGARDLESS OF GAS STATION, THE GAS ALWAYS GUSHES OUT THE FILL SPOUT. THE PUMP SHUTS OFF AND THEN A RUSH OF AIR, FOLLOWED BY FULE SPITS OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE AMOUT OF FULE IS PROBABLY ON THE ORDER OF 2 CUPS. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON HORN WONT WORK AND CRUISE CONTROL IN-OP COMMON PROBLEM AND EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR
EVERY TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK, EVER SINCE I FIRST BOUGHT IT, IT WILL SPILL GAS UPON SHUTTING THE PUMP OFF AT TOP OFF. THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE 07/08 MODELS TO THE POINT OF A FACTORY TANK REPLACEMENT, BUT THE 09 MODEL IS NOT COVERED FOR SOME REASON AND SHOULD BE. IT WILL EVENTUALLY RUIN THE PAINT AND POSSIBLY THE BUMPER COSMETICS AS WELL. PLEASE HELP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS DEFLATED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE VALVE STEM HAD FRACTURED CAUSING THE TIRE TO LOOSE AIR PRESSURE. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE VALVE STEM. THE VALVE STEM ON THE SPARE TIRE WAS ALSO REPLACED WITH A RUBBER VALVE STEM. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE VALVE STEM ON THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVER SIDE AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRES WERE ALSO CRACKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
GASOLINE SPIT-BACK AFTER PUMP AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF. REPEATED INCIDENT, OCCURS EVERY FILL-UP, AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. SEEMS LIKE THE PUMP NOZZLE SITS HAPHAZARDLY IN PLACE. THE JEEP REGURGITATE A FAIR AMOUNT OF GAS, WHICH GUSHES OUT ALL OVER THE GAS CAP, SIDE OF THE CAR, AND BUMPER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER SHIFTING INTO FIRST GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED ABNORMALLY, ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD NOISE. MY AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT TURNED ON. IT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY TURN ON AND OFF AFTER THAT UNTIL I HAD IT FIXED. IT WOULD TURN ON AND OFF WITH A FREQUENCY OF ABOUT ONE EVERY OTHER MINUTE SOUNDING OFF A WARNING CHIME. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND LEARNED THAT THIS SYMPTOM IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY MODEL YEAR OF VEHICLE AND HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH MODEL YEARS 2007 AND UP. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE CLOCKSPRING MECHANISM IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE AIR BAG. IT APPARENTLY HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUNCTION OF THE AIRBAG AND IS ALREADY THE SUBJECT OF RECALLS ON OTHER MODEL YEARS AS WELL AS A RECALL ON THE 2009 RHD VERSION OF THE WRANGLER. THEY CLEARLY ARE USING THE SAME PART ON THESE MODELS AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL MODELS THAT HAVE THIS PART. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER TO GET FIXED AND JEEP DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING MECHANISM AND I HAD IT REPLACED AS IT OBVIOUSLY IS A SAFETY RISK. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AND HAVE THEM RECALL ALL MODELS WITH THE SAME CLOCKSPRING MECHANISM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED. PULLING AWAY FROM A STOPLIGHT THE PLASTIC GAS PEDAL SNAPPED OFF - RESULTING IN THE INABILITY TO ACCELERATE OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. I PURCHASED A REPLACEMENT FROM THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP THAT SAME WEEK - AND THIS HAS JUST OCCURRED AGAIN (FEBRUARY 22ND 2013). WHILE CROSSING 2 LANES OF ON COMING TRAFFIC IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY THE ABS, ESP AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND WOULD NOT LET ME PUSH THE GAS ALONG WITH THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE "LOCKING UP". BECAUSE OF THE TRACTION CONTROL COMING ON WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, EVEN SLOWLY, THE ENGINE RESPONDS AS IF I WAS SLIPPING AND LOSING TRACTION, SPUTTERING POWER AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT JUST STOPS. NOW THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS WHICH IS VERY SCARY CONSIDERING THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING AND CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED WHILE DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH ON A SLIGHT TURNING RADIUS, THE RIGHT FRONT STARTED TO VIBRATE, THEN IT WENT TO THE LEFT SIDE, BACK TO THE LEFT SIDE,BACK AND FORTH. EACH TIME IT TRANSFERRED, IT INCREASED.THE SEVERITY OF THE WOBBLE EFFECT. I HAD TO PUT A "DEATH GRIP" ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE ONLY WAY THAT I COULD STOP THE "DEATH WOBBLE" WAS TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WAS LIKE A DEMON TOOK CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY DAUGHTER(AGE 29). THIS TIME ON A STRAIGHT SECTION OF ROAD GOING AT 45 MPH. SHE THOUGHT THAT THE TIRE FELL OFF! UNDER NORMAL DRIVING OF THE JEEP IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH RANGE, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING OF OVERTEMPERATURE COMES ON. THIS IS TO WARN OF A HIGH TEMPERATURE AND HELP PREVENT THE OIL FROM OVERFLOWING ONTO THE EXHAUST AND CAUSING A FIRE. THIS WARNING HAPPENS EVERYTIME THE JEEP IS DRIVEN IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH RANGE ON ANY SANDY SURFACE. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE PROPER SIZING OF THE TRANSMISSION COOLER. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH NUMEROUS PERSONS WITH THE SAME RESULTS. THE DEALERSHIPS RESPONSE IS TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION COOLER WITH THE AUX COOLER NOW OFFERED, BUT THIS IS A THE OWNER'S COST. THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORS AND VALVE STEMS IN THE JEEPS NEED TO BE LOOKED AT. WE HAVE HAD TWO LITERALLY "BLOW OUT" OF OUR TIRE IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS. THE LAST TIME MY HUSBAND AND SON WERE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND LUCKY THEY WEREN'T HURT OR KILLED AS AFTER IT BLEW OUT THE TIRE SHREDDED AND THEY ENDED UP ON HIS RIM. I CALLED CHRYSLER/JEEP AND THEY HAVE ME A CASE #. OUR LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND A LOCAL TIRE STORE APPARENTLY TOLD ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT THE VALVE STEMS/MONITOR RUST AND THE SEAL ISN'T GOOD ON THE TIRE ANYMORE SO THEY BLOW OUT...WE COULD REPLACE FOR $80 IF WE WANTED...HOWEVER THERE IS NO GUARANTEE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS TO REPLACE ALL MONITORS WITH RUBBER VALVE STEMS. I WASN'T WILLING TO WAIT ON THE "CASE" AND HAVE MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AT RISK SO I HAD THEM REPLACED ON OUR JEEP. OF COURSE CHRYSLER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO NOW B/C WE HANDLED IT OURSELVES. THERE IS NO BALL JOINTS, TIE RODS, BUSHINGS ETC. THAT HAS WEAR THAT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS VEHICLE TO HAVE THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE. MY WIFE HAD JUST TAKEN OUR 2009 JEEP WRANGLER TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, WHICH INCLUDED AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. ON HER WAY HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING DRAMATICALLY SO SHE PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND CALLED ME. I TOLD HER THAT IF THE TIRES WERE REBALANCED THEN A WEIGHT MIGHT HAVE FALLEN OFF CAUSING ONE OF THE TIRES TO BE OUT OF BALANCE AND TOLD HER TO TRY AND DRIVE IT HOME AT A SLOW SPEED. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME AND THE SHAKING DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. A COUPLE DAYS LATER SHE TOOK THE JEEP BACK TO THE DEALER AND ASKED THEM TO RECHECK THE TIRE BALANCING. THEY INDICATED THAT ONE OF THE TIRES WAS OUT OF BALANCE SO THEY FIXED IT AND WE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. A COUPLE WEEKS LATER I WAS DRIVING THE JEEP AT ABOUT 55MPH WHEN WE HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD AND IT STARTED A RATHER VIOLENT SHAKING AND WOBBLING IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO SLOW DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. MY WIFE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DROVE THE VEHICLE BUT SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET IT TO DUPLICATE THE SHAKING AND THEY INDICATED THAT THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVE SHAFT. I STARTED DRIVING THE VEHICLE MORE OFTEN IN ORDER TO TAKE NOTE OF ALL THE CONDITIONS PRESENT WHEN THE SHAKING OCCURS AND TO TRY TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I WAS SURPRISED WHEN I STARTED TO RESEARCH IT ON THE INTERNET AND IMMEDIATELY FOUND SEVERAL WEBSITES DISCUSSING A CONDITION REFERRED TO AS A "DEATH WOBBLE". THE SYMPTONS DESCRIBED ARE PRECISELY WHAT WE HAVE EXPERIENCED. THERE IS A VIOLENT SHAKING AND WOBBLING OF THE VEHICLE AND YOU HAVE TO SLOW DOWN IMMEDIATELY TO REGAIN CONTROL. OUR JEEP IS STOCK AND NO AFTER-MARKET MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY.
