I TOOK IT TO BIG O TIRE TO HAVE THE BALL JOINTS REPLACED AS I KNEW THAT SINCE I HAVE OVER SIZE TIRES AND A LIFT KIT THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE BEEN SMELLING OIL FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, AND CHECKED IT WHEN I LEFT WINSLOW AZ. TO GO HOME TO KINGMAN AZ. AND IT WAS JUST A BIT LOW. SO WHEN I PICKED IT UP FROM BIG O TIRE FOR THE BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT THEY TOLD ME IT WAS 3 QUARTS LOW ON OIL (THAT'S A 186 MILE TRIP) AND THEY FILLED IT, I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO MARTIN SWANTY CHRYSLER JEEP IN KINGMAN AZ. WHICH IS WHERE I LIVE. THEY LOOKED IT OVER AND TOLD ME IT WAS A SPILL FROM WHEN I HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT OIL CAN HENRY'S. THEY CLEANED IT UP A BIT AND CHARGED ME 72.00 AND TOLD ME I WAS GOOD TO GO. I TOOK IT TO THE CAR WASH AND FLUSHED THE ENGINE VALLEY OUT REALLY GOOD AND DROVE IT HOME. I LOOKED IN THE ENGINE VALLEY AND VERIFIED THAT THERE WAS ONLY WATER IN THE VALLEY AROUND THE OIL FILTER, BUT WHEN I GOT HOME IT WAS FULL OF OIL AGAIN, SO I GOGGLED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THIS ON HTTP://WWW.WRANGLERFORUM.COM/F274/2014-CRACKED-OIL-COOLER-HOUSINGS-LOOKS-LIKE-A-SERIOUS-ISSUE-698297-13.HTML WRANGLER FORUM AND SEARCHED FOR 2014 JKU OIL LEAK AND FOUND IT TO BE A OIL COOLER LEAK THAT LOOKS LIKE IT IS COMMON ON THE 2014 MODELS AND MOST DEALERS DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT ???? THIS IS FRIDAY 09-12-2014, THIS IS MY WORK VEHICLE AS I WORK PIPELINE. I WILL TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER MONDAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING IN THIRD AND FOURTH GEAR. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000.
WAS TRAVELING IN OUR 3 WEEK OLD 2014 JEEP WRANGLER 2 DOOR AUTOMATIC IN CENTRAL CALIFORNIA. HEADING WEST ON A REMOTE TWO LANE HIGHWAY IN APPROX. 84 DEGREE DRY CONDITIONS. SPEED LIMIT IN THIS AREA IS 55. I CAME UPON A FARM TRUCK WHO WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX. 45-50 MPH. WHEN CONDITIONS WERE SAFE, I PULLED INTO THE ONCOMING LANE AND PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE VERY HARD TO PASS THE FARM VEHICLE IN A SAFE DISTANCE. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON BUT WAS CURRENTLY NOT IN USE. AS I WAS ALMOST AROUND THE FARM VEHICLE I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AT FULL THROTTLE. I FIRST VIEWED THE ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO SEE IF IT WAS CLEAR WHILE AT THE SAME TIME I STOMPED ON THE BRAKE. I ALSO TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL COMPLETELY OFF. AN ERROR MESSAGE FLASHED ON THE DASH HOWEVER DUE TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES I DID NOT SEE WHAT IT INDICATED. THE BRAKING HELPED BUT AS SOON AS I TOOK THE FOOT OFF THE BRAKE IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AT FULL THROTTLE. I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT THE JEEP REACHED A SPEED OF 100 WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I THEN PREPARED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL BUT FIRST REACHED AND GRABBED THE FLOOR MAT AND YANKED IT AS HARD AS I COULD TO PULL IT AWAY FROM THE GAS PEDAL AS I WAS STILL UNSURE OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING. THE ISSUE FELT MORE LIKE AN ELECTRONIC ISSUE THEN A GAS PEDAL CAUGHT ON A FLOOR MAT. HOWEVER THIS DID SEEM TO STOP THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. ONCE HOME I VERIFIED THAT I COULD NOT SEE IN ANY WAY HOW THE FLOOR MAT WOULD HOLD DOWN THE GAS PEDAL AS THE GAS PEDAL SNAPS BACK WITH QUITE A BIT OF FORCE WHEN PUSHING THE FLOOR MAT IN FRONT OF THE PEDAL. THIS VERY WELL MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE FLOOR MAT HOWEVER I WOULD LIKE TO DOCUMENT WHAT HAPPENED. *TR
WHILE PARKED THE DASHBOARD CAUGHT ON FIRE AND CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. *TR
I HAVE A TWO MONTH OLD JEEP WRANGLER 2014, 4 DOOR WITH 1898 MILES ON IT AND IT WOULDN'T START. IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. WE TRIED TO JUMP START IT AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENED. TOWED IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WERE PERPLEXED AND NEEDED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THEY WERE NOT GETTING POWER TO ANYTHING AT ALL AND HADN'T SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. AFTER KEEPING IT FOR A DAY THEY SAID IT WAS THE PDC BATTERY MAIN POWER CABLE THAT WAS NOT ELECTRICALLY TIGHT. THE INTERESTING THING IS IT STILL HESITATES TO START ON OCCASION AND IT IS A BRAND NEW CAR. THIS IS VERY TROUBLING TO ME AS I HAVE HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM IN OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES AND WORRY IT COULD JUST STOP WORKING WHILE I AM DRIVING IT. *TR
OBSERVED OIL UNDER THE VEHICLE. SUSPECTED THAT THE OIL COOLER WAS LEAKING BASED UPON OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. OBSERVED A LARGE PUDDLE OF OIL IN THE VALLEY OF ENGINE AT THE OIL COOLER. ALL THIS WAS OBSERVED AFTER THE SECOND OIL CHANGE (DEALER). PARTS MANAGER AT DEALER STATED THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM ON THE 2014 MODELS WITH THE 3.2 AND 3.6 ENGINE. DEPENDING HOW LARGE THE CRACK IS ON THE COOLER THIS COULD CAUSE ALL THE OIL TO BE EVACUATED FROM THE ENGINE CAUSING A FIRE WITH THE HOT EXHAUST OR SEIZING THE ENGINE CAUSING A CRASH. THE OIL FILTER/COOLER WAS REDESIGNED FOR THE 2014 MODEL YEAR. AT THIS POINT IT SEEMS TO BE AFFECTING THE 2014 MODEL YEAR. *TR
OIL LEAK DUE TO CRACKED OIL COOLER HOUSING. RISK OF ENGINE FIRE. *TR
INCIDENT: WHILE STOPPING IN TRAFFIC WITH THE FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE MY JEEP HAD AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAUSING A REAR IN CRASH. THIS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION HAPPEN BEFORE ON A TRIP TO TENNESSEE IN JUNE BUT WAS THOUGHT TO BE THE FLOOR MAT WHICH NOW IS KNOWN NOT TO BE THE CASE. ( BOTH WERE WITNESSED BY THE PASSENGER) THESE INCIDENTS AND COMPLAINT WERE GIVEN TO CHRYSLER REGARDING THE EXPERIENCE WITH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATING AND SURGING. HOWEVER, CHRYSLER DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY REGARDING THE MALFUNCTION WHICH RESULTED IN THE ACCIDENT. BECAUSE I REALIZED THE JEEP WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER JEEP DEALER. DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS AND TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY. I REFUSE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND BOUGHT ANOTHER CAR. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY NEW VEHICLE WAS TOLD NOT TO SELL IT UNTIL THE TIMP IS REPLACED IN THE JEEP. THIS MISHAP HAS COST ME SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS WHICH SHOULD HAD BEEN PAID FOR BY CHRYSLER. *TR
PURCHASED A NEW 2014 JEEP WRANGLER WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN SEPTEMBER 2013. ON JULY 21,2014 I WAS PARKING THE VEHICLE AND PULLED ON THE PARKING BRAKE AND HEARD A POPPING NOISE. THE PARKING BRAKE FAILED AND WILL NOW NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE IN PLACE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO A JEEP DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE PART FIXED ON JULY 23, 2014 AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE "PARKING LEVER" WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT PART IS ON "BACKORDER" AND THE DEALER COULD NOT GIVE ME ANY TIMELINE ON WHEN THE PART WOULD BE REPLACED. CONSIDERING THIS IS A MANUAL VEHICLE, THE PARKING BRAKE IS NEEDED TO SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP CORPORATE REGARDING MY ISSUE AND HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. UPON DOING FURTHER RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THIS ISSUE IS COMMON WITH JEEP WRANGLERS AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD INCIDENTS WHERE THEIR JEEP HAS ROLLED AWAY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN AN INJURY OR FATALITY. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE OPERATING MY JEEP WRANGLER UNTIL JEEP TAKES ACTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS PULLING OUT OF A RED LIGHT AND IT SEEMED THE JEEP WOULDN'T SHIFT GEARS, THE RPMS REVVED UP AND IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT KEEPING UP WITH THE RPMS. THIS CONTINUED FOR A COUPLE SECONDS AND I PULLED TO THE BIRM OF THE ROAD AND PUT THE JEEP IN NEUTRAL. I THEN PROCEEDED TO PUT IT IN DRIVE AND PULLED OUT. I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALER (JEEP IN NEWNAN GA) AND THEY TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. THE COMPUTER DIDN'T DIAGNOSE ANY PROBLEM. THIS HAS SINCE HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS ON OCTOBER 3RD WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. THE PERSON BEHIND HER ALMOST WRECKED INTO HER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY JEEP AT NIGHT IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. I LOOKED DOWN AND THERE WAS A SHARP TURN IN THE ROAD. BY THE TIME I REALIZED IT, IT WAS TOO LATE AND I HIT THE GUARD RAIL. THE FIRE STARTED RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY WINDSHIELD. I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT BUT WITHIN MINUTES MY ENTIRE JEEP THAT WAS LESS THAT A YEAR OLD AT THE TIME WAS COMPLETELY CONSUMED IN FLAMES. THE FRONT END WAS STILL IN TACT SO THE DAMAGE IN MY OPINION WAS NOT NEARLY ENOUGH TO RESULT IN TOTAL LOSS.
3RD TIME AT THIS POINT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY THE WIPERS TURN ON AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS BEGIN TO FLASH FOLLOWED BY VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF BY ITSELF. ONCE THE VEHICLE DIES IT WILL NOT RESTART. 1ST TRIP TO DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE. 5 HOURS LATER VEHICLE DIED WHILE DRIVING AND WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALER-DEALER ABLE TO REPLICATE AND REPLACED TIPM (TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE). 3 DAYS LATER PROBLEM RETURNED WITH VEHICLE FAILING TO START WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. GOING BACK TO DEALER THIS MORNING. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY AND RANDOMLY DIES WHILE IN MOTION AND IN TRAFFIC. *TR
ON JULY 3, 2014, THE VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING DURING A 150-MILE ROAD TRIP. UPON COASTING FOR A SHORT DISTANCE, ENGINE POWER RESTORED, AND I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND CONTINUE DRIVING WITHOUT FURTHER TROUBLE THAT DAY. I DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR BECAUSE I ASSUMED IT WAS AN ISOLATED EPISODE. HOWEVER, ON JULY 22, 2014, I AGAIN HAD TROUBLE WHILE ON ANOTHER 300-MILE ROUND-TRIP ROAD TRIP. DURING THE RETURN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER AT LEAST SIX TIMES BOTH ON THE INTERSTATE AND ON LOCAL ROADS. EACH TIME, I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SO AS TO NOT BLOCK THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. AFTER A SHORT TIME, ABOUT 30 SECONDS, ENGINE POWER RESTORED, AND I WAS AGAIN ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND CONTINUE ON WITH MY TRIP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER ON JULY 23, 2014, WHERE IT WAS KEPT UNTIL JULY 28, 2014. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE IDENTIFIED. SOFTWARE UPDATES WERE RUN IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I AGAIN HAD TROUBLE WITH THE VEHICLE ON AUGUST 18, 2014, WHEN DRIVING A 400-MILE ROUND-TRIP ROAD TRIP. DURING THE DRIVE, THE VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER FIVE TIMES ON THE INTERSTATE, AT SPEEDS UP TO 70 MILES PER HOUR. UPON THE FIFTH EPISODE THAT DAY, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE CLOSEST DEALER FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, AS I FEARED I WOULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BY LOSING ENGINE POWER WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY INTERSTATE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, BUT THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE SAW SIGNS OF THE PROBLEM I DESCRIBED DURING HIS EVALUATIVE DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS RELEASED TO ME AND I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE USUAL DEALER THE FOLLOWING DAY FOR A MORE COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION. UPON DRIVING IT FOR OVER 100 MILES, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND, THUS, AGAIN HAS BEEN UNABLE TO IDENTIFY AND REPAIR THE ISSUE. *TR
I TOOK MY JEEP IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. THEY FOUND MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL LEAKING, BUT NOT FROM THE OIL PAN. MY CAR WAS BOUGHT IN OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2013 NEW. THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR 5 DAYS. IT APPEARS FROM READING THE OTHER POSTINGS THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING WITH 2014 JEEP WRANGLERS. *JS
I PURCHASED A 2014 JEEP WRANGLER, UNLIMITED FREEDOM EDITION ON FEBRUARY 21, 2014. ON JUNE 28, 2014, I WAS DRIVING THE ABOVE NAMED JEEP ON AN INTERSTATE AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 65-70 MPH. THE JEEP HAS A "SOFT" TOP. (I HAVE NEVER TOUCHED THE TOP BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO PERFORM THE TASK OF RETRACTING THE TOP TO FOLD DOWN OR FOLD IT UP TO REATTACH THE TOP. I DECIDED THAT WHEN I WANTED TO RETRACT THE TOP THAT I'D HAVE TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE JEEP OWNER'S GUIDE AND THEN PERFORM THE TASK. I'VE HAD THE JEEP FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS. I DON'T DRIVE IT MUCH, THEREFORE I HAD NOT DECIDED TO TRY AND PERFORM THAT TASK YET.) AS I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE, AS MENTIONED ABOVE, THE TOP ON THE JEEP UNPREDICTABLY FLEW OPEN AND BACKWARD. THE JEEP TOP, AFTER THE INCIDENT, WAS HANGING ON THE JEEP ABOUT 1/4 PARTS ON THE REAR TOP OF THE JEEP. THE REMAINDER OF THE JEEP TOP HAD BROKEN AND DETACHED FROM THE BODY STRUCTURE OF THE JEEP FROM THE UPPER FRONT TOP TO ABOUT 3/4 PARTS OF THE WAY BACKWARD, TOWARD THE REAR OF THE JEEP. I WAS SO AFRAID AND IN HORRIFIC SHOCK! I PULLED OVER OFF THE INTERSTATE AND TURNED THE JEEP OFF. I WAS SHAKING OUT OF FEAR AND SHOCK FROM THIS INCIDENT. ALL I COULD THINK AT THAT MOMENT WAS..."WHAT IF THAT TOP HAD FLOWN ALL THE WAY OFF OF THE JEEP AND CAUSED ANOTHER PERSON IN A VEHICLE NEAR ME, ON THE INTERSTATE, TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND PERHAPS BEEN KILLED". I AM HORRIFIED!!! I, PERSONALLY, WOULD CONSIDER THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT! *TR
I JUST DROVE MY VEHICLE AND THEN PARKED IT AT MY HOME ON A DRIVEWAY THAT HAS A SLIGHT INCLINE. I PARKED VEHICLE IN 1ST GEAR (6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION), AND APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE. APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES LATER I WAS IN MY YARD AND HEARD A MUFFLED POP NOISE AND THEN A CLICKING SOUND THAT RESEMBLED A ROLLER COASTER RIDE WHEN THE CARS ARE BEING PULLED UP A STEEP HILL. I TURNED AROUND AND SAW MY VEHICLE GOING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. IT COLLIDED WITH MY WIFE'S VEHICLE THEN HIT A TREE. THE VEHICLE HAS 2800 MILES ON IT. WHEN I GOT IN VEHICLE THE SHIFT WAS IN 1ST GEAR, AND BRAKE APPLIED. I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND LET OFF THE CLUTCH AND THE VEHICLE MOVED FORWARD, INDICATING THAT IT WAS IN FACT IN FIRST GEAR STILL. I DUPLICATED WHERE I PARKED IT AGAIN AND IT MOVED BACKWARDS AGAIN. AFTER MULTIPLE REENACTMENTS THE VEHICLE WOULD MOVE UNTIL 3-5 MIN LATER IT WOULD MAKE A SUDDEN MOVEMENT IN REVERSE FOR ABOUT 6-12 INCHES. *TR
2014 JEEP WRANGLER 3.6L ENGINE. MAJOR OIL LEAK FROM CRACKED OIL COOLER HOUSING, WHICH IS ON TOP OF THE ENGINE. IF NOT NOTICED, THIS COULD RESULT IN THE ENGINE SEIZING, OR CATCHING ON FIRE. *TR
STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN NOTICING A LIGHT GRAY SMOKE AROUND THE VEHICLE. CONTINUED FROM THE STOP LIGHT WHEN THE SMOKE STARTED TO GET MORE DARKER AND BLACK. REALIZED THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AND I DROVE TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND SMOKE WERE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. I THEN TURNED THE IGNITION KEY OFF AND EXIT THE VEHICLE. WHEN GETTING ACROSS THE ROAD FROM THE VEHICLE I TURNED AND SAW FIRE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS STATEMENT WAS MADE BY THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE (THE WIFE OF THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE). *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON FREEWAY 880 SOUTH IN MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA ON MONDAY, MAY 5TH AT APPROX 8PM. THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND DRY AND TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT THIS EVENING. I WAS TRAVELING TO CUPERTINO SO I WAS MAKING MY WAY ONTO THE 237 FREEWAY, I WAS CURRENTLY ON THE 237 RAMP, MIDWAY THRU RAMP ONTO 237 AT EXACTLY 65 MPH WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL FAILURE LIGHT FLASHED ON AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER WHILE TRAVELING ON FREEWAY VEHICLE QUICKLY WENT FROM 65 TO 50MPH WHILE LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I WAS COMPLETELY SURPRISED AND LOOKED AT MY DASH AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN RESPONSE, THE LIGHT WENT OUT IMMEDIATELY AND I REAPPLIED THROTTLE PEDAL AND THROTTLE RESPONSE WAS NORMAL. OIL LEAK CONTINUES TO WORSEN AND CALL FOR APPOINTMENT WHICH IS 2 WEEKS OUT BECAUSE LOANER IS NEEDED. OIL DOWN 1/2 QUART FROM LEAKING. COME HOME TONIGHT AND LARGE OIL PUDDLE UNDER JEEP. LIFT HOOD AND TAKE OFF ENGINE COVER AND A LARGE POOL OF OIL ON TOP OF ENGINE RIGHT NEXT TO OIL FILTER HOUSING. DO SOME RESEARCH ON WEB AND IT APPEARS THAT CRACKED OIL FILTER HOUSINGS ARE AN ISSUE ON THE 2014 WRANGLERS. OFF ROAD 4WD CONDITIONS AND TERRAIN CONSISTED OF A 5% GRADE IN LOW CUT HAY FIELD. ALARM INDICATED IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS NECESSARY. VEHICLE TEMPERATURE GAUGES WERE RISING FROM NORMAL TOLERANCES TO ALARM STATUS IN TWO MINUTES. CORRECTIVE ACTION INCLUDED CUTTING ENGINE TO COOL. CORRECTIVE ACTION ALSO REQUIRED BLOWER AND HEATER ON HIGHEST SETTINGS TO COOL BLOCK AND MAINTAIN OPERABLE DRIVING CONDITION TEMPERATURES. ENGAGING IN THE SLIGHTEST LOAD WHILE 4 WHEEL DRIVE TRAIN WAS ENGAGED (OFF ROAD) IMMEDIATELY REPLICATED SEVERE OVERHEATING CONDITION OF BOTH TRANNY AND BLOCK COOLANT. VEHICLE WAS OPERABLE AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURES AT HIGH SPEEDS IN TWO WHEEL DRIVE WHILE ON PAVEMENT ONLY. I AM REQUESTING THAT DOT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE STRESS FRACTURE TO MY FRONT WINDSHIELD WHICH SUDDENLY OCCURRED IN LATE FEBRUARY OF 2015. THE JEEP WAS PARKED IN MY MOTHER'S DRIVEWAY IN NEW JERSEY FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS DUE TO THE BIRTH OF MY BABY AND INCLEMENT WEATHER. DURING THAT PERIOD A GREAT DEAL OF ICE AND SNOW ACCUMULATED. EVENTUALLY I STARTED THE VEHICLE, AND STARTED CLEARING THE CAR. I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE WINDOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE RUNNING FROM THE BOTTOM TOWARD THE TOP, APPROXIMATELY 4"-5" LONG THAT HAD NOT BEEN THERE BEFORE. AFTER 15 MINUTES THE CRACK SPREAD TO 6" ACROSS AND THEN BACK DOWN THE WINDSHIELD TO THE POINT WHERE IT PARTLY BLOCKED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE WINDOW FEELS PERFECTLY SMOOTH, BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. IT CLEARLY FORMED INSIDE THE WINDOW. I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHO SAID IT WAS A STRESS FRACTURE PROBABLY DUE TO FREEZING CONDITIONS ALONG WITH THE HEAT FROM THE DEFROSTER. THE INDIVIDUAL I SPOKE WITH CONCEDED IT WAS IN ALL PROBABILITY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT SINCE HE HAD HEARD OF "A LOT OF OTHER CASES LIKE MINE" BUT WOULD NOT BE QUOTED ON THAT. HE CONTACTED CHRYSLER WHO REFUSED TO COVER THE WINDSHIELD DAMAGE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH I ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR SEVEN MONTHS, THE MILEAGE WAS OVER 12,000. I HAVE CONTINUED TO INVESTIGATE INCIDENCES OF STRESS FRACTURE DAMAGE TO FRONT WINDSHIELDS IN THE JEEPS AND HAVE COLLECTED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF DATA THROUGH NUMEROUS COMPLAINT BLOGS THAT SUPPORTS THE FACT THAT EITHER THE JEEP WINDSHIELDS THEMSELVES ARE DEFECTIVE OR SOME PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE DESIGN ITSELF MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR CONSIDERABLE HEAT TO BE TRAPPED BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND DASHBOARD TO THE POINT WHERE STRESS CAUSES THE WINDOW TO CRACK. RATHER THAN ADDRESS THE ISSUE, CHRYSLER IS INSTEAD FORCING OWNERS TO GO THROUGH THEIR PRIVATE INSURANCE FOR REPAIRS. PLEASE FORMALLY INVESTIGATE." *TR

IN JANUARY 2014 I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2014 JEEP WRANGLER AT RIVER OAKS CHRYSLER JEEP IN HOUSTON, TX AND AROUND MARCH 1ST I NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM MY VEHICLE. I WAS UNSURE IT WAS MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I ASSUMED IT WAS A NEW VEHICLE THAT THERE IS NOT WAY IT COULD BE MY JEEP. ON MARCH 5TH 2014 I HAD A LOT OF OIL SPILL OUT OF MY VEHICLE. I TOOK THE JEEP INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON MARCH 6TH AND THEY NOTICED THE SPILLING OF OIL. I DROPPED OF MY JEEP WITH THEM AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT. THEY SAID THAT MY OIL COOLER WAS LEAKING. AND THEY REPLACED THE OIL COOLER. COME TO FIND OUT THIS IS A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD. A BRAND NEW CAR AND THE OIL COOLER FAILS. WENT TO STOP AT LIGHT, HIT THE BRAKE IT WAS HARD AND DID NOT ENGAGE, I STOPPED BECAUSE I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. BRAKES NEVER ENGAGED, PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BEFORE EXITING THE VEHICLE TO CHECK ON THE PEOPLE IN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND THE BRAKES SEEMED TO LET OUT AIR AND RELAX. DEALERSHIP CLAIMED NOTHING WRONG, SPOKE TO NEUTRAL MECHANICS AND THEY ALL STATED THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM THAT WOULD OCCUR AGAIN AND THAT THE BRAKES WOULD SEEM FINE IN THE MEANTIME. I ALREADY BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER ONCE AND THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG AND NOTHING RECORDED. WHAT HAPPENED, DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND EVERY WARNING LIGHT CAME ON FLASHING THEN STOPS. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STAYED ON. THE SECOND TIME THEY ALL LIT UP WHEN I STOPPED THE JEEP DIDN'T START, EVERYTHING HAD POWER JUST DIDN'T START AND WHEN I TOOK THE KEY OUT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAID KEY STILL IN THE IGNITION. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES THE JEEP STARTED AND THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT WAS ON. TOOK IT IN TO DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG BRING IT IN WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN. AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN AS I DESCRIBED ABOVE. FOUND ON ANOTHER FORUM THAT THEY HAD TO GET THE SENSOR REPLACED. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND IF SO WHAT DID YOU FIND OUT TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES IN EITHER CRASH. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120.

OIL LEAK WAS FOUND TO BE CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE REAR MAIN SEAL. PREVIOUS OIL CHANGE (THE FIRST ONE FOR THIS VEHICLE) PERFORMED PROFESSIONALLY.
