BOUGHT A 2018 JEEP JLU NEW. HAD IT FOR ONLY 5 MONTHS AND ALL OF THE WELDS ON THE FRAME AND AXLES AND OTHER COMPONENTS HAVE RUSTED. HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN ON THE ROAD AND NEVER SEEN ITS FIRST WINTER
STEERING WONDERS AND IS UNRESPONSIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS REQUIRING CONSTANT CORRECTION. THIS PROBLEM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DAMPER OR TRACK BAR, AS I HAVE HAD THESE REPLACED, YET THE PROBLEM PERSISTS (9/29/2019). I ALSO, HAD THE BCM BODY CONTROL MODULE FAIL (7/11/2019) WHILE IN MOTION WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING TO LOCKUP AND THE JEEP NOT RESPOND (THANKFULLY THIS WAS A LOW SPEED INCIDENT).
VEHICLE HAS PLAY IN THE STEERING AT ALL SPEEDS.
ON THREE OCCASIONS IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS, I EXPERIENCED A TERRIFYING VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS.HARROWING EVENT, THOUGHT WAS GOING TO GET INTO A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT. THIS IS A LEASE VEHICLE WITH ONLY 5500 MILES AT THE TIME THESE SCARY EVENTS TOOK PLACE.
LOOSE STEERING AND WANDERS
I HAVE BROUGHT MY 2018 JL WRANGLER IN FOR SPEED WOBBLES 4X. WHILE I WOULD CONSIDER MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES WITH THIS ISSUE MINOR, WHAT I EXPERIENCED ON 9/27/2019 WAS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE WHEN I HIT A BUMP AT APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH THE JEEP STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET IT TO STOP WAS TO RAPIDLY DECELERATE TO APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. THERE WAS NO BREAKDOWN LANE IN THE FAST LANE, SO I HAD TO SKIRT ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC. A TRUCK SLAMMED ON ITS BREAKS BEHIND ME. I AM VERY LUCKY TO HAVE AVOIDED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE TO CALL THIS A SAFE CAR TOR DRIVE. I CALLED JEEP AND THEY OPTED ME INTO A "RECALL" CAMPAIGN THAT I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE IMMEDIATE AND URGENT. THIS IS NOT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE, THIS IS NOW MY 3RD STEERING DAMPENER. I HAVE DRIVEN JEEPS FOR MANY YEARS AND NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING BEFORE PEOPLE GET KILLED. I CALLED JEEP AND FILED A COMPLAINT, BUT NOBODY SEEMS TO BE TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY. THE ANSWER WAS THAT I WOULD BE "OPT-ED" IN TO THE RECALL. IF THERE ARE ANY JEEPS OUT THERE WITH THE OLD DAMPENER THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED NOW. MY CAR IS COMPLETELY STOCK HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED IN ANY WAY.
WHEN DRIVING AT A HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 70-80 MPH AND HITTING A BUMP THE JEEP GOES INTO CONVULSIONS "DEATH WOBBLE" TO THE POINT WE HAVE TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE WE ARE SO SCARED, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US SEVERAL TIMES SINCE OWNING IT. WE DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS 2018 JEEP WRANGLER JL. JEEP DOES HAVE A RECALL FOR THE STEERING DAMPER BUT I DON'T FEEL THIS WILL FIX THE ISSUE AS WE ALREADY HAD THIS REPLACED ONCE. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THAT THE STEERING WANDERS AT ANY SPEED, ALWAYS HAVING TO RE-CORRECT THE STEERING, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AND SEEMINGLY UNSAFE.
EXTREME STEERING WOBBLE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS WHEN FRONT WHEELS EXPERIENCE A BUMP OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT/POTHOLE.
I PURCHASED MY 'NEW' 2018 JL JEEP WRANGLER/RUBICON LESS THAN ONE MONTH AGO. IT HAS UNDER 1400 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE HAD TO GET OUT AND CHECK MY TIRES NUMEROUS TIMES THINKING ONE WAS FLAT BECAUSE IT WAS PULLING TO ONE SIDE. IT IS VERY HARD TO CONTROL AND IT LOOKS LIKE I AM INTOXICATED WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. IT LOOKS LIKE ONE RECALL ON THE STEERING DAMPER WAS REPLACED BEFORE THE PURCHASE, BUT NOT EVEN SURE IF IT WAS REALLY REPLACED. THE LEFT REAR SHOCK WAS LEAKING AND SUPPOSABLY REPLACED TOO. UNDER WARRANTY OF COURSE. I WILL BE CONTACTING A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP TOMORROW AND CALLING JEEP. I WANT THEM TO CHECK THE ALIGNMENT, STEERING AND MAKE SURE THE RECALL WAS COMPLETED PROPERLY. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP THAN THE ONE THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM. I AM DEVASTATED AND WORRIED ABOUT MY SAFETY, MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS ON THE RODE. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. I WILL ALSO BE HAVING A SPECIALIST CHECKING THE WELDS AS WELL AFTER READING THROUGH THESE COMPLAINTS. WITH WINTER ON ITS WAY, I WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT. IT WILL BE SCARY ON TREACHEROUS WINTER ROADS. I ALSO WAS DRIVING AN AVG OF 68 ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY AND WENT OVER A SMALL SMOOTH BUMP IN THE ROAD... THE KIND THAT MAKES YOUR STOMACH TICKLE.... I ABOUT LOST CONTROL. IT IS SO HARD TO KEEP IN YOUR DRIVING LANE. I HAVE DROVE A JEEP SINCE 2010 AND ALWAYS SAID I WOULDN'T BUY ANYTHING ELSE. I REALLY HOPE CHRYSLER WILL TAKE CARE OF THEIR JEEP FAMILY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. MAKES ME SICK TO THINK I JUST SPENT $43000 ON A VEHICLE I SHOULDN'T DRIVE. THE PREMIUM AUDIO IS ALSO 'NOT PREMIUM'.... AWFUL. VARIOUS SPEEDS, VARIOUS MILEAGE AT TIME OF EVENTS- NOTICE RIGHT AWAY AFTER PURCHASE, HOWEVER THOUGHT I JUST NEEDED TO GET USE TO DRIVING A NEW VEHICLE.
I NEVER LIKED HOW THIS JEEP DROVE FROM DAY 1, AS ALWAYS FELT SOMETHING IN THE FRONT END WAS LOOSE AND THE RIDE WAS WOBBLY AT VIRTUALLY ALL SPEEDS. AFTER THE FIRST OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION THE PROBLEM SEEMED WORSE. BROUGHT IT BACK AND 1 FRONT TIRE WAS SLIGHTLY OFF BALANCE, SO WAS REBALANCED AND OFF WE WENT. PROBLEM NATURALLY HASN'T GONE AWAY. ANNOYING AND OF CONCERN THAT I FINALLY BROUGHT IT BACK TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT WHEN THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID "OH THERE IS A RECALL ON YOUR JEEP FOR THE STEERING STABILIZER... I HAVE NOT EVER RECEIVED ANY MAIL FROM JEEP TO THIS REGARD.. HOWEVER THEY WILL BE REPLACING IT THIS WEEKEND. WITH THIS NEW INFORMATION, I NOW SEARCH THIS SITE AND SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT STEERING ISSUES I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING, AND NEED TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT....AS I TOO HAVE FELT THE VEHICLE FEELS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND COULD POTENTIALLY BE A PROBLEM. SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE SMOKE UNDER THESE JEEPS AND THE BUILD OF THEM, AND JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE PEOPLE WILL SUFFER SIGNIFICANT INJURY TO THEMSELVES OR OTHERS IF THIS ISSUE ISN'T FIXED AND BAD VEHICLES ARE BOUGHT BACK BY FCA. I BEGIN MY JOURNEY WITH JEEP SATURDAY, AND AFTER READING ALL THE ISSUES HERE HAVE LITTLE FAITH THAT THIS FIX IS REALLY THE SOURCE OF MY PROBLEM BUT A BANDAID ON A MUCH LARGER ISSUE FOR OWNERS LIKE MYSELF. 50K FOR A VEHICLE ONE WOULD THINK SHOULD BUY ONE A SENSE OF CONFIDENCE. IN MY CASE, THERE IS ZERO AT THIS POINT, BUT UNLESS IM PARKING THE VEHICLE AND EATING MY $500 MO PAYMENT WHAT CHOICE DO I HAVE BUT TO DRIVE IT AND JUST PRAY NOTHING HAPPENS? I WILL UPDATE THIS POST AS NEED BE AS WE MOVE FORWARD WITH JEEPS "FIX" I WILL MAKE SURE TO HAVE THEM INSPECT THE WELDS ON MY FRAME AS WELL, WITH A BUILD DATE OF JULY 2018 AND FRAME #186, MINE IS JUST A FEW OUTSIDE OF THE RANGE OF ONES WITH KNOW PROBLEMS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED SEVERAL CRACKS IN THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS POORLY WELDED AND THE METAL IS CONTAMINATED. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH STONERIDGE CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE (2700 STONERIDGE DR, PLEASANTON, CA 94588, 925-479-9090) AND PLEADED WITH THE DEALER TO EITHER CANCEL HIS CONTRACT WITH THE VEHICLE OR ALLOW HIM TO TRADE IN THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER ONE. THE DEALER REFUSED HIS REQUEST AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT REACHED OUT TO THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD CALL HIM BACK. THE CONTACT HAD YET TO HEAR BACK FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000. *DT *DT*JB
MY BRAND NEW, 2018 JEEP HAS 768 MILES ON IT AND THE STEERING IS LOOSE TO SAY THE LEAST. IF THE FRONT TRACK BAR BRACKET (SOLID FRONT AXLE IN LINE WITH THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE) STILL HAS WELDS THAT ARE OFF SEAM, CAN CAUSE THE BRACKET TO DETACH FROM THE FRAME AND CAN CAUSE LOOSE, VAGUE STEERING TO A COMPLETE SYSTEM FAILURE. RECALL STATEMENT: "THE SEPARATION OF THE FRONT TRACK BAR BRACKET FROM THE FRAME MAY CAUSE A REDUCTION IN THE STEERING RESPONSE, WHICH CAN CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING," THIS IS MY THIRD JEEP AND 2ND JEEP WRANGLER. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THEY REPAIRED THE RECALL, 2 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE DATE, BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY DID. IF THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THE REPAIR TO JEEP I AM SURE THEY POCKETED THE MONEY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK AS THE STEERING IS RECALLED AS A SAFETY RECALL - THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE LIABLE AND JEEP NEEDS TO INSPECT THAT THE RECALLS AT THE VERY LEAST ONE AND THOSE THAT CLAIM TO DO THE REPAIRS AND DO NOT - SHOULD HAVE THEIR ABILITY TO OFFER JEEP PRODUCTS REVOKED.
OCCASIONALLY WHEN I TURN, THE CAR WILL SWERVE. THERE WAS A STEERING RECALL IN JUNE. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY DISAGREED MY ISSUE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR.
MULTIPLE SUB FRAME WELDS ARE INCOMPLETE OR NOT DONE PROPERLY. SEE PHOTOS.
2018 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA UNLIMITED. 15,000 MILES. NO MODIFICATIONS. DREADED 'DEATH WOBBLE' OCCURRED 3 TIMES IN THREE DAYS AFTER PURCHASING CAR USED. SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME AND THE PASSENGERS, JEEP NEEDS TO FIX THIS NOW!,
ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2019 I TOOK MY JEEP WRANGLER IN FOR A STEERING DAMPER CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION (RECALL). ON SEPTEMBER 20TH, 2019 I WAS DRIVING 65MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE JEEP BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE, NOT STOPPING UNTIL I ACTIVATED MY BRAKES AND BEGAN TO PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY TO MAKE SURE MY TIRES WERE FINE AND I COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. THE JEEP RAN NORMAL AFTER THIS OCCURRENCE, BUT THE SHAKE WAS INTENSE, AND SCARY WHILE GOING 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE STEERING DAMPER BEING REPLACED DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE RECTIFIED THE SITUATION.
HAVE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE OCCASIONAL "DEATH WOBBLE" ALONG WITH CONSISTENT SHIMMYING OF THE VEHICLE WHEN SPEEDS REACH 65MPH+. THIS ECHOES WHAT MANY OTHERS HAVE POSTED AS WELL. I HAVE OWNED 7 JK WRANGLERS PREVIOUSLY AND KNOW THIS IS NOT HOW STEERING SHOULD FEEL. MARCH 16, 2019 I WAS PROACTIVE IN ASKING THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE STEERING DAMPER, WHICH THEY DID (PARTS 68251580AD, 6104242AA, 6510774AA, 6512425AA, 6104718AA). THIS HELPED A LITTLE, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2019, AFTER THE OFFICIAL RECALL #V41, I WENT IN AND THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPER (PARTS CCUKV411AA & CCUKV413AA). THE PAST 2 WEEKS THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. YES, AT THE MOMENT IT'S SIMPLY AN ANNOYANCE AND NO DEATHS OR ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED, BUT I FEAR SOMETHING COULD HAPPEN. AND ON TOP OF THAT, A $40K+ VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE STEERING RELATED ISSUES SUCH AS THIS.
MY 2018 JL CONSTANTLY PULLS/DRIFTS TO THE RIGHT. BOTH STEERING DAMPER AND FRONT TRACK BAR REPLACED, YET PULL IS CONSISTENT. HAPPENS ON ANY ROADWAY AT ANY SPEED.
ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2019, WE WERE TOWING OUR JEEP WRANGLER BEHIND OUR 25 FOOT COACHMAN PRISM RV ON HIGHWAY 95 IN MARYLAND. WE HIT A BUMP IN THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 70 MPH AND OUR RV WAS SHAKING SO BAD AND SOUNDED LIKE WE HAD A FLAT TIRE. THE SHAKING WOULDN'T STOP SO WITHIN A HALF MILE WE MANAGED TO PULL OVER TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE AND STOP. WE GOT OUT AND CHECKED ALL THE TIRES BECAUSE WE THOUGHT WE HAD A FLAT TIRE. NOTHING WAS WRONG. WE CONTINUED ON A TRIP ABOUT 5 MILES FURTHER UP THE ROAD IT HAPPENED A SECOND TIME. THIS TIME WE COULDN'T PULL OVER BUT WE SLOW DOWN AND THE SHAKING WENT AWAY. WE REACHED OUR DESTINATION AND MET UP WITH FAMILY AND BEFORE WE COULD TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED MY SISTER WHO HAD JUST BOUGHT A JEEP WRANGLER TWO WEEKS EARLIER ASKED IF WE HAD HEARD ABOUT THE DEATH WOBBLE. I WENT ONLINE AND LEARNED ABOUT THE DEATH WOBBLE AND I'M CERTAIN THIS IS WHAT WAS OCCURRING TO OUR JEEP WHILE BEING TOWED. WE HAD ALREADY REPLACED THE DAMPER AS A RECALL AND THIS STILL OCCURRED. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND OVER THE WEEKEND THEY'RE REPLACING SOME BARS UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF THE JEEP. THE REASON FOR MY REPORTING THIS IS I LEARNED THAT THE DAMPER BEING REPLACED IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FIX AND SINCE WE ALREADY HAD IT REPLACED BUT DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WERE REPLACING IT MONTHS AGO IT'S STILL OCCURRED TO OUR JEEP.
Within 1 year of getting our Wrangler we experienced issues with the instrument panel short circuit and also the rear camera stopped functioning. I brought it to the dealership and they said it would require hours to repair them and it wasn't covered under warrantee. I've now seen 2 recalls regarding these issues, Short Circuit: [XXX] : [XXX] While I intend to inquire about these and the latter recall is fairly new, i haven't received notice of either. Additionally, in 2022, far within my warranty, the aux battery that restarts the car for the stop/start function, failed to maintain a charge. The car shut off in the middle of an exit ramp on the highway. It was particularly concerning because the engine was stalling anytime I stepped on the brakes. I brought it in for service and Jeep charged me for the entire replacement of the aux battery since it wasn't under warranty. MY 2018 JEEP WRANGLER, STOCK, HIGHWAY DRIVEN ONLY, HAD ITS DAMPER RECALL COMPLETED AND IMMEDIATELY HAD THE DEATH WOBBLE HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES. VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. THE DEALERS TELL YOU THEY DID THE FIX, BUT IT DOES NOT WORK. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. JEEP MUST BE MADE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM NOW. THERE FIX IS ONLY A PUBLICITY STATEMENT, NOT A FIX. PLEASE HELP. OTHERS SAY THEY CAN FIX IT BUT IT COSTS ABOUT $3,000. THE WARRANTY SHOULD FIX IT.
JEEP HAS A EXTREMELY BAD WOBBLE/SHAKE WHEN YOU HIT BRIDGE JOYCE'S AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. REPLACED STEERING DAMPER A WEEK AGO THE SHAKE/WOBBLE IS WORSE NOW THAT IT PULLED ME IN THE OTHER LANE. DEALER CANT GET IT TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM FOR THEM. 100% STOCK JEEP
WHEN TRAVELING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, RIDING OVER SMALL IMPERFECTIONS IN THE ROAD LEAD TO THE VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL.
WHILE EXITING A DRIVE THRU, I NEEDED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN. AS I WAS IN MOTION TO MAKE THAT LEFT HAND TURN, THE STEERING LOCKED UP & IT SENT ME CRASHING STRAIGHT INTO A METAL POLE, WHICH JUST HAPPENED TO BE FOR THE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO PEDESTRIANS AROUND THAT WERE PUT IN HARMS WAY. HOWEVER, MY 2018 JEEP WRANGLER JL WAS NOT SO LUCKY. CURRENTLY WE ARE BEING ESTIMATED AROUND $8,000 - $15,000 IN DAMAGE BUT THAT IS NOT FINAL YET.
I BOUGHT THE JEEP WITH 3K MILES, AFTER 6500 MILES I NOTICED MY TIRES WERE NOT WEARING CORRECTLY, I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO HAVE THEM ROTATED MORE OFTEN & IT WOULD ELIMINATE THAT, WHILE IT WAS THERE THEY FIXED THE RECALLED STEERING DAMPER. AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH MY AIR, THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL PER CHRYSLER. I EXPLAINED WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS NOT WHAT CHRYSLER STATED. AFTER DEALING WITH THIS, I STARTED NOTICING MY JEEP SHAKING WHEN I WOULD CROSS OVER CERTAIN BRIDGES. TOOK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID I NEEDED A FRONT END ALIGNMENT & AFTER CONVINCING THEM THAT MY AIR WAS NOT RIGHT THEY DECIDED TO FIX THE INTEGRATED CENSOR. AFTER KEEPING MY JEEP OVER A WEEK WHEN I PICKED IT UP, IT WAS WORSE THAN WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT BACK DUE TO THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE BALANCED, IN THE MEANTIME EVERY BUMP IN THE ROAD I WOULD HIT IT WOULD SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLE. IT REALLY SCARES ME ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM ON THE HWY GOING 70, HIT A BUMP, THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO SLOW DOWN A RIDICULOUS SPEED, WITH CARS/TRUCKS GOING 70+ ON THE HWY, I CAN GET REAR ENDED. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN & WAS TOLD BASICALLY THIS WAS A NORMAL THING WITH JEEPS & THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WELDING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR WAS CORRODED, FRACTURED, AND EMITTED A NOISE FROM UNDERNEATH. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER (SOLOMON CHRYSLER JEEP) SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT LOOSE STEERING / A DEAD SPOT. THE FIRST COUPLE TIMES THEY TOLD ME THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND IT WAS A JEEP THING. THE LAST TIME I TOOK IT TO THEM THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THAT HE THOUGHT IT WAS LOOSE COMPARED TO HIS DAUGHTERS JEEP. HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND SOME INFO STATING TO REPLACE THE TRACK BAR. I BROUGHT IT BACK AT A LATER DATE FOR THEM TO REPLACE IT AND WHEN I WENT TO PICK IT UP HE TOLD ME THAT HE THOUGHT IT WAS A LITTLE BIT BETTER BUT NOT COMPLETELY. HE ASKED ME TO DRIVE IT AND GET BACK TO HIM ON WHAT I THOUGHT. I DROVE IT FOR A DAY AND CALLED HIM BACK TO LET HIM KNOW THAT IT WAS NOT FIXED. HE SAID HE WOULD GET WITH CHRYSLER AND GET BACK TO ME. A COUPLE WEEKS WENT BY AND HEARD NOTHING SO I CALLED THEM AND HE SAID THE TECH REP FROM CHRYSLER SAID TO TELL ME THAT THE JEEP WAS NORMAL. I ASKED WHAT I COULD DO AT THIS POINT AND HE SAID I COULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER. I DID CALL THEM AND THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER. I SET UP AN APPOINTMENT WITH CAR RIGHT CHRYSLER JEEP IN MOON TOWNSHIP PA AND THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM. THE CASE WORKER FROM CHRYSLER CALLED ME BACK AND SAID SHE GOT THE INFO FROM THE DEALER THAT THEY ALSO FOUND NOTHING WRONG. SHE SAID I COULD TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER OR FILE A COMPLAINT HERE. I DID NOT SEE MUCH SENSE IN TAKING IT TO ANOTHER DEALER. I AM NOT GOING AS FAR AS TO SAY IT IS UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE BUT I AM SAYING IT IS NOT RIGHT. I GUESS THAT THE BEST WAY TO EXPLAIN IT IS IT GETS TIRING TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE YOU CONSTANTLY HAVE TO MAKE CORRECTIONS BACK AND FORTH WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP IN THE LANE. FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH I HAVE A DAUGHTER THAT IS A NEW DRIVER AND I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE TO LET HER DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF THE STEERING.
THE STEERING WANDERS AND REQUIRES CONSTANT CORRECTION FROM DRIVER. CROSSING OVER BUMPY TERRAIN CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JERK, EVEN AFTER I HAD THE STEERING DAMPER REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THAT THIS IS JUST THE WAY THE WRANGLERS DRIVE. I THINK THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTED AS THE "WAY WRANGLER DRIVE"
HIGHWAY SPEED OF 50MPH+ FRONT END SHAKES VIOLENTLY AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN ROAD. THE VIBRATION CONTINUES UNTIL SPEED IS REDUCED. STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES. 2018 JEEP WRANGLER WITH 3000 MILES. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES.

HAVE HAD THE JEEP FOR ONLY 3 WEEKS NOW AND ON THE SECOND WEEK THE "ENGINE LIGHT" TURNED ON, TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO NOT CLOSING TIGHT THE GAS CAP TIGHT WHEN I PUT GAS BUT THE THING IS THAT "I" HAD NOT EVEN FUELED IT BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE THE JEEP LONG ENOUGH TO NEED TO FUEL IT UP. THE "SESPENSION", STEERING IS VERY WOBBLY TO AND FROM ANY WHERE I DRIVE IT IN TOWN OR CITY AND MORE SO WHEN I DRIVE IT ON THE FREEWAY, IT IS A TASK AND SRUGGLE; ARMS AND HANDS ARE SORE AFTER I GET HOME FOR ME TO TRY TO KEEP IT STEADY , IF I DO NOT STAY FOCUS AND HOLD TIGHT ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN DRIVING IT , THE JEEP WILL GO ON EITHER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. I HAVE TO BE VERY EXTRA FOCUSED AND CAREFUL WHEN CHANGING LANES AS THE MANOUVER WHEN DOING SO OR STREERING TO DRIVE/CHANGING LANES IS NOT PLEASANT NOR STEADY BUT WOBBLY AND IF I DO NOT HOLD ON TIGHT TO THE STEERING WHEEL, THE JEEP WILL GO OFF THE ROAD. THE "BREAKS", WHEN I BREAK, THE JEEP IS LATE IN STOPING, I HAVE TO CALCULATE TO BREAK WAY AHEAD IN ORDER NOT TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME ALSO WHEN STARTING BACK UP FROM MY FOOT ON THE BREAK, IT DOES NOT TAKE OFF AS SOON AS I LET OFF THE BREAK AS I EXPEXT IT TO BUT JERKS INSTEAD TAKING TIME TO DRIVE ON AND MOVE. MY 2018 JL WRANGLER HAS A SIGNIFICANT "DEAD BAND" IN THE CENTER OF THE STEERING. THE STEERING WHEEL CAN BE TURNED SIDE TO SIDE WITH NO CHANGE IN WHEEL DIRECTION BOTH WHILE STATIONARY AND MOVING. THIS NECESSITATES EXAGURATED INPUTS TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE AND MAKES MAINTAINING A STRAIGHT LINE DIFFICULT. IT REQUIRES WHITE KNUCKLED DRIVING WHILE DRIVING NEXT TO A SEMI ON THE FREEWAY. IT ALREADY HAS THE UPDATED DAMPER AND TRACKBAR INSTALLED BY THE DEALER. THE DEALER CURRENTLY CLAIMS "IT'S A JEEP THING" AND THERE IS NO ISSUE. THERE IS A 4000 POST THREAD ON THE JL FORUM THAT DISAGREES.
MY WRANGLER JEEP JL 2018 HAS TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING. IT IS BAD ENOUGH THAT IT CAN BE HARD TO STAY IN MY LANE AT TIMES. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS MOST NOTICEABLE AT SPEEDS ABOVE 30 MPH, MORE NOTICEABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ONE TIME I ALMOST HIT A CEMENT MERIDIAN WHICH DIVIDES LANES ON THE HIGHWAY. I NOTICED ON THE JEEP FORUMS THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS EXACT TOPIC FOR THE JEEP WRANGLER JL. WHY IS JEEP NOT DOING A RECALL ON THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE? THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO SNETHKAMP CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (313-429-0013, LOCATED AT 11600 TELEGRAPH RD, REDFORD, MI 48239) WHERE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED BY REPLACING THE STEERING DAMPER. THE CONTACT REQUESTED THAT THE NEW PART BE REPLACED WITH THE ORIGINAL STEERING DAMPER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DROVE BETTER AFTER THE NEW PART WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,500.
THE CAR SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND AFTER HITTING A BUMP OR IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD. I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED ONCE BEFORE A FEW MONTHS AGO. THE CAR SEEMED TO SHAKE AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND I WOULD HAVE TO PULL THE CAR OFF THE ROAD TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP TO MAKE THE SHAKING STOP.I ALSO HAD THE CAR REPAIRED FOR THE SAME ISSUES AT SCAP JEEP IN FAIRFIELD CT A FEW MONTHS AGO. THEY SAID IT WAS THE STEERING DAMPER. THE CAR WAS FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AGAIN. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 8/25. WE FEAR TAKING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY.

MY FIVE WEEK OLD MANUAL JEEP WRANGLER JL WITH APPROXIMATELY 1500 MILES ON IT WAS IN MOTION TRAVELLING WESTBOUND ON A 55 MPH ROAD WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE JEEP HAD BEEN IN MOTION FOR APPROXIMATELY 1/4 OF A MILE WHEN IT WAS SHIFTED INTO THIRD GEAR AND PART OF THE TRANSMISSION FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN SHIFTED INTO 4TH GEAR, AGAIN MORE PARTS FELL FROM BENEATH THE JEEP. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE GEAR CHANGE THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH ALL LIT UP AND BLACK SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE SEEN SIMULTANEOUSLY ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE JEEP WAS IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE 911 WAS CALLED. THE FIREFIGHTERS FOUND PIECES OF THE TRANSMISSION HUNDREDS OF YARDS FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES.
PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO . HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE STEERING IS OFF. IT HAS ALOT OF PLAY AND HAS A DEAD SPOT IN THE MIDDLE WHICH HAS MADE IT VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. 2 DEALERSHIP HAVE TRIED FIXING THE ISSUE, HAVE THROWN PARTS AT IT BUT HAVE STATED THAT THE ISSUE IS A "CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE" AND SO THEY HAVE WASHED THEIR HANDS BY SAYING THIS. PURCHASING DEALERSHIP HAS ALWAYS BEEN UNWILLING TO WORK WITH US BUT HAVE LIED TO US ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. REACHED OUT TO JEEP CARE AND HAD CASE ESCALATED TO A LEVEL 2 CONTACT BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN OF MUCH ASSISTANCE EITHER AS THEY HAVE JUST GONE WITH WHAT THE DEALERSHIPS STATE. WE WERE NEVER OFFERED TO HAVE JEEP ENGINEERS COME OUT AND CHECK THE VEHICLE. WE WERE TAKEN ON A TEST DRIVE WITH OTHER 2018 MODELS AND THEY DRIVE EXACTLY THE SAME BUT THE SECOND THAT YOU ASK THE DEALERSHIPS TO ALLOW YOU TO DRIVE A 2019 THEY BECOME EXTREMELY HESISTANT AND SAY THAT IT'S A DIFFERENT YEAR SO IT DOES NOT APPLY. ONE DEALERSHIP ALLOWED US TO DRIVE A 2019 MODEL OF OUR VEHICLE AND THERE IS NOT STEERING ISSUE OF ANY TYPE WHICH ONLY LEADS US TO BELIEVE THAT JEEP RECTIFIED THE ISSUE WITH THE NEWER MODELS AND ARE REFUSING TO SPEAK UP ABOUT THE 2018 MODEL, OURS.

I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL JEEPS OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS AND THIS PARTICULAR EVENT WAS THE WORST THAT I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED AND WAS ONGOING. WE WE TRAVELING ON DRY SMOOTH ASPHALT PAVEMENT ON HIGHWAY 82 10 MILES EAST OF BASALT CO AT APX. 750 PM WITH OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE OF 67* HEADING TO ASPEN AT APX 55 MPH. ALL STOCK NO ADD ON'S ON THIS VEHICLE. ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE ENTIRE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE AND RATTLE SO HARD THAT I HAD NO TIME TO PULL OVER AND HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE HIGHWAY. THE WOBBLING WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL WE REACHED 15 MILES PER HOUR. STARTED TO HEAD TO ASPEN AGAIN AND IN ANOTHER 3 MINUTES THE SAME WOBBLING, VIOLENT SHAKING STARTED AGAIN AT APX. 50-60 MPH. THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A SMALL INDENTATION IN THE PAVEMENT. THIS WAS SO UPSETTING FOR MY AUNT, THAT SHE REFUSED TO GET BACK IN MY JEEP AND ALSO REFUSED TO DRIVE BACK TO TEXAS AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE. WHEN DRIVING BACK TO TEXAS, EVERY TIME I HIT THE SMALLEST HOLE I WOULD SLOW DOWN WITH ANTICIPATION THAT THE WOBBLE WOULD START AGAIN. I DROVE 55 MPH ALL THE WAY BACK SO THAT I WOULD FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE IF IT OCCURRED AGAIN. THIS IS A SITUATION THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED. WHEN A PASSENGER REFUSES TO RIDE IN A VEHICLE AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS FIRST HAND IT PUTS A BURDEN ON THE FAMILY AND THE JOY OF OWNING A CAR. I DO HAVE A DASH CAM VIDEO IF NEEDED THAT I WILL KEEP ON FILE. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES BEFORE AUGUST AND TWICE IN AUGUST, MY JEEP WAS JUST SERVICED AND INSPECTED ON AUGUST 15 2019. I AM EXPERIENCING THE WRANGLER DEATH WOBBLE. GOING OVER 60 HITTING UNEVEN PAVEMENT AND FRONT END SHAKES. I FIRST REPORTED ISSUE TO DEALER AS LOOSE STEERING AROUND 5000 MILES. NOW AT 18000 FULL BLOWN WOBBLE. THEY PERFORMED THE STEERING DAMPNER RECALL WHICH ONLY MADE IT WORSE. WENT BACK TO DEALER SAID THEY RE ADJUSTED DAMPNER. DRIVING HOME SAME ISSUE AGAIN BACK TO DEALER. SAID THEY ARE HAVING ONE OF THE JEEP REPRESENTATIVES COMING TO LOOK AT IT. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE WITH MY 2010 WRANGLE BUT THAT HAD OVER 85K MILES. HAVING TO ABRUPTLY SLOW DOWN WHEN YOU ARE IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC TO 40 OR LESS FROM 70 -75 IS A SAFETY HAZARD.

FIRST TIME I NOTICED IT VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION I HIT A SMALL POTHOLE AND STEERING OF THE VEHICLE WAS UNCONTROLLABLE FOR 10 15 SECONDS (THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WE WERE ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL WITH OUR NEWBORN AND PULLED OVER THINKING A TIRE POSSIBLY BLEW). NOW, EVEN THE SMALLEST BUMP IN THE ROAD WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHIMMY AND WOBBLE ALMOST TAKING OVER COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE STEERING. WHEN I BROUGHT THE JEEP IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE THEY DID NOT MENTION THE RECALL UNTIL I ASKED THEM ABOUT A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLES STEERING. I HAVE ALSO RECEIVED NO NOTICES OR PHONE CALLS FOR THIS STEERING RECALL. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF IT WAS TO HAPPEN WITH AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER. WE HAVE TO DRIVE ON A ROAD DAILY THAT IS PROBLEMATIC AS IT IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION WITH ALL KINDS OF BUMPS AND UNEVEN SURFACES. MY VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED FOR THE SERVICE RECALL REPAIR. THIS CONDITION WAS REPEATEDLY INDUCED AT HI-WAY AND FREEWAY SPEEDS (40-70 MPH) WHEN A SLIGHT IMPERFECTION WAS ENCOUNTERED. EXAMPLES OF SUFFICIENT IMPERFECTIONS INCLUDE FREEWAY IRREGULARITY, TRANSITIONS AT OVERPASSES, SLIGHT POTHOLES, AND SIMILAR DISTURBANCES. THE VEHICLE WOULD ENTER A VIOLENT LEFT-TO-RIGHT SHAKING EVIDENCED BY A STEERING WHEEL THAT WAS DIFFICULT TO RETAIN A GRIP ON, TERRIFIED PASSENGERS, AND DANGEROUS CIRCUMSTANCES DUE TO HAVING TO SLOW TO APPROXIMATELY 35-45 MPH TO ALLOW THE VIBRATIONS TO SUBSIDE AND CONTROL TO BE REGAINED. ON DAILY COMMUTES ON THE FREEWAY. JEEP WAS TAKEN TO JEEP DEALERSHIP IN ARCHBOLD OHIO WHERE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN FIXED BUT THE ISSUE REMAINS TO THIS DAY.
I HAVE HAD A DEATH WOBBLE ON MY 2018 JEEP WRANGLER JL. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS REPAIRED. ON MY WAY HOME 82 MILES AWAY. IT CONTINUED TO HAVE THE DEATH WOBBLE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. THE NEXT CLOSEST IS OVER 2 HOURS AWAY AND A RENTAL WOULD BE REQUIRED. I HAVE HAD SO MANY ISSUES GETTING THIS RESOLVED.
THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO STEER, ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS 45 MILES PER HOUR AND UP. THE VEHICLE HAS PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND TENDS TO WANDER ON THE ROAD AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHEN DRIVING ON A STRAIGHTAWAY. PROBLEM IS WORSE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS. FCA HAS BEEN NO HELP.
2018 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA, COMPLETELY UNMODIFIED, EXHIBITED VIOLENT STEERING SHAKE OR "DEATH WOBBLE" WHEN ENCOUNTERING ROAD IMPERFECTIONS SUCH AS BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINTS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CONDITION INTENSIFIES UNTIL SPEED IS BROUGHT DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH (VERY DANGEROUS IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC). THE DEALER WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE AND WAS EASILY ABLE TO REPLICATE DURING A TEST DRIVE. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE TRACK BAR AND REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER. UNFORTUNATELY THE VIOLENT STEERING SHAKE (DEATH WOBBLE) PERSISTS WHEN ENCOUNTERING UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE NEW STEERING STABILIZER HELPS THE VEHICLE RECOVER FROM THE CONDITION, BUT THE VEHICLE STILL CONTINUES TO GO INTO FULL BLOWN DEATH WOBBLE. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION THAT ENDANGERS NOT ONLY THE OCCUPANTS OF THE JEEP BUT ALSO FELLOW HIGHWAY USERS. I HAVE DRIVEN MORE THAN 400,000 MILES IN JEEP WRANGLERS AND HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED SUCH A DANGEROUS DEFECT IN ANY VEHICLE.
BODY: WATER LEAK FROM HARDTOP (RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER) AND (FRONT CENTER - WHERE HARDTOP MEETS WINDSHIELD PILLAR). MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT (REPLACED ALL SEALS) AND THERE IS STILL A LEAK FROM FRONT CENTER (WHERE HARDTOP MEETS WINDSHIELD PILLAR). SUSPENSION: LOUD 'CLUNK' OR 'THUMP' COMING FROM REAR WHEN ACCELERATING FROM BOTH A DEAD STOP AND WHILE MOVING AT LESS THAN (5) MPH AND ACCELERATING.
