VEHICLE DOING DEATH WOBBLE FROM REPETITIVELY FROM SPEEDS 50 ON UP TO 70 AT TIMES LOWER. HARD TO CONTROL.
BOUGHT WRANGLER IN MAY OF 2018. HAVE ALWAYS NOTICED THAT THE STEERING ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN OFF, OR THAT IT HAS AT LEAST 1 INCH TO 2 INCHES IN PLAY. MEANING THAT I CAN MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT AND IT DOES NOT IMPACT STEERING DIRECTION. VEHICLE ALSO DOES NOT TRACK STRAIGHT, IT PULLS TO THE LEFT. NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS I AM AT 20K MILES NOW. STEERING DAMPER HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE NOW FIRST TIME WAS AT 14,000 MILES. SECOND TIME AT 19,000. . HITTING AN EXPANSION JOINT OR POTHOLE AT SPEEDS NORTH OF 70MPH WILL CAUSE SEVERE SHAKING TO THE POINT I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO SPEEDS OF AROUND 50MPH FOR IT TO GO AWAY. NOT SAFE AT ALL ON THE FREEWAY. THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT. FCA SHOULD BUYBACK THE WRANGLERS AND WORK ON FIXING THE OBVIOUS FLAW IN FRAME ENGINEERING, THE STEERING DAMPER IS JUST A BANDAID. THE STEERING DAMPER IS GOING TO CONTINUE GOING OUT AND CAUSING THE DEATH WOBBLE.
LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING, THE STEERING NEEDS TO PAST CENTER THEN BACK TO GET IT STRAIGHT THEN REPEATED TO MAINTAIN IN THE LANE REQUIRING CONSTANT CORRECTIONS. A GUST OF WIND HAS CAUSED THE CAR TO CHANGE DIRECTION WITH NO FEEDBACK IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE PROBLEM IS LESS NOTICEABLE AT LOW SPEED, BUT CHANGES THE LONGER IT IS DRIVEN.
2018 JEEP WRANGLER HAS TERRIFYING STEERING ISSUES. CONSISTENTLY WHILE STEERING A HIGHWAY CURVE AT 40-55 MPH MY JEEP STEERING DISENGAGES AND RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE INABILITY TO MAINTAIN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE STEERING CAN BE DESCRIBED AS LOOSE AND COMMONLY DESCRIBED BY PASSENGERS AS THE UNSETTLING FEELING THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS COMING OFF THE WHEELS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE NOT BEEN INJURED YET BUT IF THIS CONTINUES I DON'T THINK IT WILL REMAIN THAT WAY.
MY 2018 JEEP WRANGLER WAS PURCHASED IN JULY 2019 AND THE FIRST WEEK OF OWNING I NOTICED THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE JEEP'S FRAME APPEARED TO BE RUSTY. FIRST OWNER, HAD NOT BEEN THROUGH A MICHIGAN WINTER... YET. RECENTLY THE JEEP STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH LEAKING COOLANT AND ONCE I GOT UNDER THE VEHICLE, I WAS IN COMPLETE SHOCK WITH THE APPEARANCE OF THE FRAME. IT STILL IS RUSTY BUT THE ENTIRE FRAME LOOKED LIKE A 6TH GRADE ASPIRING ENGINEER DESIGNED THE VEHICLE AND USED PARTS FROM GRANDPAS GARAGE TO CONSTRUCT THE FRAME. THERE HAS GOT TO BE A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE FRAME OF 2018 JEEP WRANGLERS.
CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 7/1/2019. THE STEERING WAS WONDERING ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP. WE ACTUALLY DID NOT GET TO TEST DRIVE THE CAR WE PURCHASED AS THEY WERE CLEANING IT SO WE TEST DROVE ANOTHER VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NORMANDIN IN SAN JOSE BECAUSE MY EXPERIENCE WITH SOUTH COUNTY GILROY WAS SO BAD, I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. NORMANDIN MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME TO COME IN ON THE 10TH OF JULY TO GET THE ENGINE START STOP SYSTEM FIXED AND TAKE A LOOK AT THE STEERING. TURNS OUT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO US WITH A RECALL IN PLACE THAT THE DEALER DID NOT MENTION AND SHOULD NOT HAVE SOLD THE VEHICLE. STEERING WANDERS SO JEEP REPLACES TRACK BAR AND STEERING STABILIZER. PARTS CAME IN AND APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR 7/23 FOR NEW PARTS TO BE INSTALLED. JEEP SEEM TO WANDER LESS BUT WAS STILL DID NOT DRIVE AS GOOD AS MY JK. 7/29 I WAS DRIVING JEEP ON FREEWAY AROUND 60 MPH AND I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE THE STEERING WHEEL SHIMMER/ DEATH WOBBLE. EVERY TIME I CROSSED A JOINT ON THE FREEWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE PRETTY VIOLENTLY FOR ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS BEFORE IT MELLOWED OUT. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 8X DRIVING ABOUT 16 MILES DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THE JEEP WAS DROPPED OFF AT THE DEALER AUGUST 1ST FOR THEM TO EVALUATE IT AND I WAS TOLD IT COULD COST ME $100 AN HOUR FOR THE EVALUATION. I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING A RENTAL*DT *JB
I DO NOT KNOW THE EXACT CAUSE, BUT THE VEHICLE HAS EXTREMELY LOOSE STEERING AND WANDERS ALL OVER THE LANE WHILE DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS. VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL VEHICLE WHICH MAKES IT EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. COMBINE THE TWO WITH A BUMP IN THE ROAD, AND THE VEHICLE JUMPS TO THE SIDE. LOOSE STEERING IS EASILY NOTICED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND PARKED.
MY CAR HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING THE 'DEATH WOBBLE' AS SOME DEALERSHIPS HAVE TOLD ME THAT. THE STEERING GETS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND ITS SUPER HARD TO CONTROL SOMETIMES. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW CAR AND IT FEELS LIKE IM DRIVING A LEMON. ALMOST EVERY OTHER DAY SINCE I PURCHASED IT (ONE MONTH AGO) SEEMS LIKE IVE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT.
LOOSE STEERING THAT DOES NOT TRACK STRAIGHT WITHOUT CONSTANT CORRECTION. STEERING HAS BEEN BINDING DURING OPERATION CREATING AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION
VEHICLE HAS SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS AN IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD WAY.
VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT START, ANTI-THEFT LIGHT FLASHING. VEHICLE WILL RESTART AFTER SITTING 10-15 MINIUTES
STEERING HAS 2+ INCHES OF PLAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DEALER SAYS IT IS A JEEP THING BUT OTHERS WITH THE EXACT SAME VEHICLE HAVE NO PLAY IN THEIR STEERING. I HAVE HAD IT IN 4 TIMES AND IT IS NOW WORSE THAN WHEN I BOUGHT IT. MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE SHE FEELS IT IS UNSAFE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE PARKING, THE VEHICLE MADE A REVVING SOUND BEFORE THE CONTACT PRESSED THE IGNITION BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE SOME HOW REEVED UP AND ACCELERATED AND JUMPED THE CURVE AND HIT A BUILDING. THE CONTACT WAS CURRENTLY TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER STEVE LANDERS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM 401 COLONEL GLENN PLAZA LOOP, LITTLE ROCK, AR 72210 (501) 374-4848 TO GET THE ISSUE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. TF. *DT *DT*JB
HEAVY AMOUNT OF RUST THROUGHOUT THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. RUST IS LOCATED ON FRAME WELDS, SUSPENSION CONNECTION BRACKETS, AND AXEL COMPONENTS. PHOTOS WERE TAKEN 10 DAYS AFTER PURCHASING FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I TOOK THE JEEP BACK AND ASKED THEM TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS SAFE. THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS CRAZY AND SAID YEP THAT IS NORMAL TO HAVE RUST. I ASKED IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE THIS MUCH RUST ON A BRAND NEW CAR. THAT IS CRAZY. THE STEERING JERKS TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT CONSTANTLY AND YOU ARE ALWAYS HAVING TO FIGHT IT TO STAY IN A STRAIGHT LINE. I HAVE READ FROM OTHER REPORT THAT THIS HAS BECOME A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS MODEL YEAR. I HOPE THIS ISSUE WILL BE RESOLVED. I BOUGHT MY CAR ON 06/29/2019. THE REDESIGN OF THE 2018 JEEP WRANGLER (JL) INCLUDES AN UNSAFE DESIGN OF THE FREEDOM TOP. WHEN THE FRONT FREEDOM PANELS ARE REMOVED, THE EDGES OF THE BACK PANEL EXTEND ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE SOUND BAR AND ARE NOT FINISHED WITH ANY TRIM, WHICH LEAVES A SHARP EXPOSED FIBERGLASS EDGE TO DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE FRONT FREEDOM PANELS REMOVED IN THE MANNER INSTRUCTED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND BY MOPAR VIA THEIR YOUTUBE TUTORIALS. WHEN HE EXTENDED HIS HAND UPWARD TO REACH FOR HIS HAT, THE EXPOSED EDGE OF THE BACK PANEL OF THE FREEDOM TOP CUT HIS HAND DEEPLY ENOUGH TO SEVER A NERVE AND AN ARTERY, REQUIRING EMERGENCY CARE AND SURGERY. THIS OCCURRED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE NEWER 2019 MODEL APPEARS TO HAVE ADDED PLASTIC TRIM TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER THIS UNREASONABLY UNSAFE CONDITION SHOULD BE ADDRESSED FOR ALL OF THE 2018 JL MODELS AS WELL. *DT *DT*JB *DT *TR *DT *DT *TR
THERE HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH LOOSE AND WANDERING STEERING MOSTLY NOTICED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OVER 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE THERE IS TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TRYING TO KEEP A STRAIGHT LINE OR IN THE CENTER OF THE LANE. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER THREE TIMES TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. ON THE LAST VISIT, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TRACK BAR WHICH ONLY SLIGHTLY IMPROVED THE PROBLEM. WHEN I RECENTLY DROVE THE VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY AT 65MPH IN WINDY CONDITIONS, IT WAS EXTREMELY EXHAUSTING TO KEEP IN THE SAME LANE AND FELT VERY DANGEROUS. I SHOULD NOTE THAT AT LOWER SPEEDS BELOW 45MPH THE LOOSE STEERING IS NOT AS NOTICEABLE. WHEN I HAVE MADE FOLLOW UP CALLS TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER (MOST RECENT 9/23/19), I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THIS STEERING FEEL WAS NORMAL FOR THE JEEP.
I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW CAR JEEP WRANGLER 2018 JL. WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE CAR STARTED SHAKING THIS WAS HAPPENING MORE CONSTANTLY.. I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH MY CHILD. I TOOK THE CAR WITH A DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT HAS MISSING DAMPERS...IT HAD LESS WAS THEN 2K MILLAGE. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?
STEERING HAS A DEAD SPOT IN THE WHEEL WITH ABOUT 2 INCHES OF PLAY. CONSTANTLY HAVE TO MAKE CORRECTIONS LEFT AND RIGHT AS YOU DRIVE DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW ABOUT ONE MONTH AGO AND NOW HAS 452 MILES ON IT. DEALER JUST REPLACED THE TRACKER BAR, WHICH WAS A POSSIBLE FIX PROVIDED BY CORPORATE. HOWEVER, ONLY A SLIGHT DIFFERENCE WAS MADE TO THE STEERING PROBLEM AFTER THIS REPAIR. VERY UNSAFE WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY DOING 65-70 MPH. SERVICE MANAGER STATED THE ONLY THING CORPORATE HAS LISTED SO FAR TO REPLACE, IF THIS ISSUE ARISES, IS THE TRACKING BAR.
REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER HAS SHORT CIRCUITED, VEHICLE WAS DROPPED OFF ON JULY 02, 2019 AND PICKED UP ON AUGUST 13, 2019 WITH NOTHING DONE FOR ISSUE. JEEP HAS SB 08-037-19 ISSUED AGAINST THE PROBLEM BUT NO ACTION HWAS DONE.
WOBBLY STEERING AND REQUIRES LOTS OF CORRECTION ON HIGHWAY. DEALER DENIES THERE IS AN ISSUE
OVER 50 MPH VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN LANE -- WANDERING ISSUE + DEAD ZONE IN STEERING. HAD TO INSTALL AFTERMARKET PARTS TO HELP CORRECT WANDERING TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY. BETTER NOW BUT STILL HAD DEAD ZONE "SLOP" IN STEERING WHEEL. THE BUILD QUALITY IS SO POOR THAT THE TORQUE SPECS HAD TO BE CHECKED AND THE ALIGNMENT WAS WAY OFF FROM FACTORY. I HAVE HAD MANY NEW VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS AND THIS IS THE CHEAPEST MADE AND HAS THE WORST QUALITY OF ALL! THESE NEW JL JEEPS HAVE A REAL PROBLEM WITH BEING ABLE TO KEEP THEM DRIVING STRAIGHT OVER 50 MPH. I HAVE HAD OTHER JEEPS TJ, XJ, JK AND NONE ARE THIS BAD. CHECK THE WRANGLER JL FORUMS AND SEE THE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE STEERING. ADDITIONALLY JEEP HAD A RECALL ON THE STEERING STABILIZER AND THE DEALER INSTALLED IT UPSIDE DOWN. TOLD THEM IT WAS WRONG AND THEY WERE UNHAPPY WITH ME BECAUSE I POINTED IT OUT. THIS WAS AFTER I TOLD THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT IT NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED IN THE PROPER DIRECTION AND ALL HE SAID WAS WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING , WE DO THAIS ALL THE TIME. TOTAL INCOMPETENCE FROM THE FACTORY TO THE DEALERS. PICKED THIS 2018 UP EARLY JULY 2019 AND NOTICED THE PROBLEM ON THE WAY HOME.
KEEP WRANGLER DEATH WOBBLE, CAUSE ME TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD WHILE MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR. SINCE THEN MY DAUGHTER HAD BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT NECK PAINS. MY NECK AND BACK ALSO HAS BEEN IN PAIN SINCE THEN. GOING TO SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT.
THE VEHICLE HAS 800 MILES ON IT AND HAS NEVER BEEN OFFROAD BUT THERE IS VIBRATION AND LOOSE STEERING, IT'S MY WIFE'S DAILY COMMUTER SO IT DOESN'T EVEN SEE POTHOLES YET I CHECKED AND THE TRACK BAR CAN BE MOVED AROUND BY HAND ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. SHE EXPERIANCED DEATH WOBBLE AT 65MPH TWICE WHICH PROMPTED ME TO CHECK THE BAR.
STEERING WHEEL SHAKE ABOVE 50 MPH AND DEATH WOBBLE MAKING A HAZARD CONDITION
WHILE STEPPING ON THE BRAKES, THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COMES ON, POWER STEERING GOES OUT, THEN THE DASHBOARD GOES CRAZY WITH ALL SORTS OF WARNINGS BLINKING AND DINGING: SWAY BAR, STABILITY CONTROL, BLIND SPOT ALERT, AUTO PARK, ETC. TEMP GOES UP AND DOWN, SPEEDOMETER GOES CRAZY. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF AND RE-STARTED, IT USUALLY STARTS AS NORMAL. MOST OCCURRENCES HAVE BEEN WHEN SLOWING DOWN (IN LINE AT A DRIVE THRU, APPROACHING A STOPLIGHT). THE JEEP HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES. THIS SERVICE SHIFTER LATE FIRST CAME ON JUNE 23 AND IT OCCURRED FOUR TIMES THAT DAY.FIRST THEY REPAIRED THE POWER STEERING. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN AND THEY REPLACED THE MODULE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN AND THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT IS STILL SITTING
STEERING DOWN THE ROAD IS LOSE AND HARD TO KEEP JEEP STRAIGHT WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER TO FIX THE "DEATH WOBBLE" BUT THE STEERING PROBLEM IS STILL THERE AND WORSENING
REAR WINDOW SWITCH NOT WORKING TO ROLL WINDOWS DOWN BUT REAR WINDOWS WORK IF U USE THE FRONT SWITCH'S
PURCHASED NEW 2018 WRANGLER. STEERING HAS PLAY SIDE TO SIDE. VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND TO CORRECTION UNTIL YOU REACH THE THRESHOLD OF THE STEERING WHEEL PLAY TO EITHER SIDE. MAY BE DANGEROUS IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS. NO RECALL FOUND. DID FIND NUMEROUS ONLINE SITES, VIDEOS, AND BLOGS DOCUMENTING THIS ISSUE, BUT JEEP SEEMS TO THINK EVERYTHING IS OK.
WRANGLER JL SPORT WONDERS FROM ONE SIDE OF THE LANE TO THE OTHER. WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING IF I HIT A BUMP IT WILL LAUNCH THE VEHICLE INTO THE OTHER LANE OR ON THE SHOULD. I SHOULDN'T FEEL AFRAID TO DRIVE A VEHICLE I SPENT $52,000.00. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! THE BEST PART IS IF YOU ASK A MECHANIC ABOUT IT AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT OR HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS, WHAT A JOKE!!
MORE THAN ONCE I HAVE EXPERIENCED EXTREME SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND VEHICLE. IT HAPPENS WHEN I AM ON THE HIGHWAY AND HIT A BUMP. EACH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED I TENSE UP FOR FEAR OF LOSING CONTROL. I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 35MPH FOR IT TO STOP. THIS IS NOT SAFE TO DO ON THE HIGHWAY. IT IS ALSO ILLEGAL TO DO AS THE MINIMUM SPEED LIMIT IS 45MPH. I BROUGHT MY JEEP INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON 11/11/2019 FOR AN OIL CHANGE, TIRE ROTATION AND TO HAVE SOME DAMPENER THING INSTALLED DUE TO A RECALL. THE VERY NEXT DAY IT DID THE SAME THING. I HAVE NOW BEEN TRYING TO AVOID GOING OVER 45 MPH.
TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. REQUIRES A LOT OF WORK TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT. ITS DANGEROUS IN CONGESTED AREAS OR NARROW ROADS. I WOULD DESCRIBE AS A DEAD SPOT IN THE CENTER. THIS HAPPENS 100% OF TIME BUT IS REALLY BAD OVER ABOUT 35 MPH. JEEP TRIED A NEW DAMPER AND NEW STEERING BOX. NEITHER HELPED AT ALL.
JEEP JL WRANGLER, STEERING LOOSE AND JEEP WANDERS AT HIGHWAY SPEED. ATTENTION NHTSA: THIS IS NOT A JEEP THING! PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE THIS! IF SOLVABLE, THEN BY DEFINITION NOT INHERENT TO ANY PLATFORM! SOLVES INCLUDE A COMBINATION OF NEW STEERING GEAR, NEW TENSION BOLT THAT CONNECTS THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE GEAR, AND NEW TRACK BAR. FCA IS GETTING AWAY WITH SUBSTANDARD STEERING AT THE HAND OF ITS TECHS THAT STATE THAT THIS IS JUST A JEEP THING WHEN IT IS NOT! FORCE A RECALL NOW OR FACE BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS! THIS IS FIXABLE! THIS IS WHY WE HIRED YOU TO DO THIS JOB! ACT NOW! THIS IS YOUR MOMENT!

THE FRAME WELDS ON SOME OF THE WRANGLERS ARE OUTSIDE OF THE ACCEPTABLE QUALITY. THERE ARE A PLETHORA OF PORES, CRACKS, INCOMPLETE WELDS, AND SLAG. I HAVE ATTACHED MULTIPLE IMAGES OF MY JEEPS WELD ISSUES. NOTICE HOW SEVERE THE WELDS ARE. THERE IS ONE SPECIFIC ONE WITH A TON OF PORES AND CRACKS ON THE FRAME RAIL JUST BEHIND THE FRONT WHEEL. IF I WERE TO FULLY ARTICULATE, THE FRAME WOULD LIKE FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY. THESE JEEPS SHOULD BE BOUGHT BACK AND REPLACED IN ORDER TO PREVENT CATASTROPHIC FAILURES.
RUST BUBBLING UP UNDER PAINT AROUND FOR HINGES. THE RUST IS ONLY EVIDENT ON THE TOP HINGES OF BOTH DOORS (VEHICLE ONLY HAS TWO DOORS). THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX IT AND CALLED IT A PAINT IMPERFECTION. HOWEVER THE RUST SPOT IS INCREASING IN SIZE AND NEW SPOTS ARE DEVELOPING. THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE PAINT (I.E. CHIPS, SCRATCHES) THAT WOULD EXPLAIN THE RUST. IT SEEMS TO HAVE COME FROM THE FACTORY/ MANUFACTURER.
WHEN HAVING AC ON AND SPEEDING BETWEEN 60-75 MPH A BURNT LIKE SMELL COMES THROUGH AC VENTS TEMPORARILY
HAVE HAD MY JEEP SERVICED TWICE FOR IT WANDERING ALL OVER THE ROAD FOR LITTLE TO ZERO IMPROVEMENT. I RECENTLY TOOK A 6.5 HOUR HIGHWAY TRIP AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC ALL OVER THE ROAD VERY UNSAFE AND THERE WAS LITTLE WIND AND DRY ROADS SO WEATHER WAS NOT THE CAUSE. CAN NOT STAY STRAIGHT CONSTANTLY MAKING ADJUSTMENTS WHEN YOU SHOULD BE GOING STRAIGHT. IT IS ALL THE TIME IN TOWN AND HIGHWAY BUT HIGHWAY DRIVING IS AMPLIFIED THE EFFECTS. I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE AND WE HAD IT PARKED FOR ABOUT 40 DAYS NOT USING IT BECAUSE MY FIANCE AND I FEEL IT'S U SAFE. AFTER THE MOST RECENT SERVICE STILL ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGE IN FACT THE HIGHWAY DRIVING IS MUCH WORSE.
LOOSE STEERING WITH TOO MUCH PLAY IN EITHER DIRECTION. VERY DANGEROUS AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND CAUSES WANDERING ALL OVER THE ROAD. ALSO, STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AFTER TURNING THE WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT AND BACK CENTER. I WAS DRIVING, MADE A U-TURN AND TRIED TO BRING THE WHEEL BACK CENTER, BUT THE WHEEL LOCKED AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GET INTO A COLLISION. I AM NOW NOT DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE. WE OWN A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED (4-DOOR) RUBICON, ORIGINAL OWNER, CURRENTLY HAS 2625 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE WANDERS ON ALL ROAD SURFACES. THE STEERING IS VERY LOOSE AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN IN THE LANES WHILE IN MOTION. THIS EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING MAKES FOR A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVE AS YOU ARE CONSTANTLY CORRECTING THE DIRECTION OF THE VEHICLE TO KEEP IT FROM GOING OFF THE ROADWAY OR INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS STEERING ISSUE IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND THEY HAVE FOUND NOTHING.
WHEELS HAVE A GROOVE BEHIND THE SPOKES THAT ACCUMULATE WATER AND DIRT THAT SETTLES TO THE BOTTOM WHILE PARKED AND AFFECTS TIRE BALANCE, CAUSING DANGEROUS SHAKING WHILE DRIVING. IT IS ESPECIALLY PROBLEMATIC ON WET WINTER ROADS WHERE THEY FILL WITH WATER DURING WHILE DRIVING THAT POOLS IN THE BOTTOM AND FREEZES OVERNIGHT. IN LESS THAT 10,000 MILES I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM THREE TIMES WITH WATER/ICE AND TWICE WITH MUD.
THIS WAS FOUND DURING A TIRE REPLACEMENT. THE LEFT REAR BRAKE WAS COATED WITH "OIL" THAT I WAS TOLD CAME FROM THE REAR TRANSMISSION SEAL NEXT TO THE WHEEL LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS, AT TIMES, HARD TO STOP. I WAS FORCED TO "SLAM" ON THE BRAKES TO GET VEHICLE TO STOP. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FEATURE SEEMED TO STOP WORKING AND I WOULD SKID TO A STOP. THERE WAS NO CONSISTENCY IN THE OCCURRENCE OF THIS SYMPTOM. THE DEALER TOLD US THAT THEY WERE REPLACING THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
MY REVERSE LIGHTS NO LONGER COME ON WHEN I HAVE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE. THE BACKUP CAMERA IS ALSO SUPPOSE TO ENGAGE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN REVERSE AND THE SCREEN JUST STAYS ON THE RADIO SCREEN AND DOES NOT SWITCH OVER TO THE BACKUP CAMERA. I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE EITHER. WE DID A SOFT RESET AND ALSO UNHOOKED THE BATTERY FOR 15 MINUTES.
JEEP WRANGLER JLU RUBICON WITH ONGOING STEERING ISSUES. AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, AT OR ABOVE 60 MPH, THE JEEP WANDERS AND THERE IS 1.5 TO 2 INCHES OF PLAY IN THE STEERING. CONSTANT CORRECTION AND STEERING INPUT IS WARRANTED TO MAINTAIN LANE LIMITS. THE JEEP HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3-4 TIMES WITHOUT RESOLUTION. DEALER STATED THE PLAY WAS NORMAL. THE STEERING DAMPER WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL WITHOUT RESOLUTION. I PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR A NEW FRONT TACK BAR AND STEERING GEAR WITHOUT RESOLUTION. ON EVALUATION FROM A JEEP INDEPENDENT ALIGNMENT FACILITY, IT WAS IDENTIFIED THE TIE ROD CONNECTED TO THE PITMAN ARM HAD EXCESSIVE PLAY. AT 13500 MILES, THE STEERING HAS COSTED ME $1500 AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED. DEALER RECOGNIZES THE ISSUE. SERIAL CALLS TO THE FCA CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE HAS LED TO 'COMPLAINT NUMBERS' BUT NO RESOLUTION. MY STEERING ISSUES ARE REPORTED BY OTHERS ON JEEP JL FORUMS AND YOUTUBE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED ABOUT THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED "DEATH WOBBLE" THREE TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED MY JEEP WRANGLER IN DECEMBER OF 2018. ALL THREE TIMES IT OCCURRED AFTER HITTING A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE NOT MODIFIED ANY ELEMENTS OF THE SUSPENSION - IT IS ALL FACTORY.
DRIVING DOWN ROAD YESTERDAY WITH NO RAIN, COMPLETELY DRY AND 89 DEGREES, ALL THE SUDDEN MY JEEP MAKES A DINGING NOISE AND THE SERVICE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. I CALLED DEALERSHIP THEY SAID IF IT CAME BACK ON OR DIDN'T GO OFF TO SCHEDULE AN APT. I ASK IF SAFE TO DRIVE, RESPONSE WAS I GUESS NOT SURE, SHOULD NOT HURT ANYTHING. THIS SAME DEALERSHIP HAD TO ENTER A CODE INTO MY COMPUTER LAST WEEK BECAUSE MY JEEP WAS AUTOMATIC, BUT WHEN YOU GOT IN IT, IT SAYS DEPRESS CLUTCH AND TURN KEY, FOR STRAIGHT DRIVE. ALSO THE CENTER CONSOLE LIGHTS SOME TIME WOULD WORK AND SOMETIME NOT, AFTER THE UPDATE THAT STOPPED. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE ESC LIGHT, IT DID GO OFF.
ELECTRONIC SWAY BAR DISCONNECT IS AFFECTED BY WATER AND BECOMES INOPERABLE. NOW THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE SINCE THIS MOTOR AFFECTS THE FRONT SWAY BAR AND VEHICLE STABILITY AND IS NOT BEING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DO TO WATER DAMAGE. THIS MOTOR IS VISIBLE FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE AND IN A LOCATION THAT IS EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS.
THE 2018 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED JL HAS AN ISSUE WITH "LOOSE STEERING" OR " OVER CORRECTING". WHEN TRYING TO KEEP THE JEEP IN A STRAIGHT LINE IT TENDS TO "DRIFT". CAUSING THE DRIVER TO CONSTANTLY MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. IT IS WORSE IN AREAS WITH HILLS OR ROADS WITH MANY TURNS. DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY IN SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH POSES AN ISSUE WHEN GOING AROUND A CURVE. IF THE DRIVER TURNS THE WHEEL EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT TOO CLOSE YOU CAN END UP IN A WALL.
JUST BOUGHT A 2018 WRANGLER JL LEFTOVER/ BRAND NEW OFF THE LOT. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE STEERING IS VERY LOOSE AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE IN WIND OR IF DRIVING 55 MILES PER HOUR OR MORE. MY HUSBAND REFUSES TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE HE FEELS UNSAFE DOING SO. I GET VERY NERVOUS AS WELL. I'M CONSTANTLY HAVING TO ADJUST THE WHEEL TO STAY ON THE ROAD. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT SOMETIMES WHEN I SET THE CRUISE CONTROL IT WILL JUST KEEP GOING PAST MY DESIGNATED SPEED I CHOSE UNLESS I TURN IT OFF. LASTLY MY CAR SEEMS TO NOT SHIFT GEARS DOWN. IT THROTTLES AND REVS. WHEN I TOOK IT TO BE LOOKED AT I WAS TOLD IT'S NO BIG DEAL. WELL IT IS! EVEN MY LOCAL MECHANIC SAID HE FEELS THAT IT'S NOT SWITCHING PROPERLY BETWEEN GEARS. EVERY TIME I DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY OVER 45 MPH I HAVE TO PLAY WITH THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH AROUND 1 INCH BECAUSE IF I DON'T DO THAT MY WRANGLER PULLS TO LEFT OR RIGHT MOVING OUT THE LANE, I HAVE INFORMED THAT AT DEALERSHIP WHEN I TAKE MY WRANGLER FOR SERVICE AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPER BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2019, BUT THE ISSUE STILL NOT FIXED.
