WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT SPEEDS OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR, HITTING A BUMP OR A POTHOLE DESTABILIZES THE FRONT AND CAUSING THE WHEELS TO VIBRATE LOSING CONTROL TEMPORARILY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHILE GOING AROUND A CURVE AND THE CAR IS UNABLE TO BE CONTROLLED.
I HAVE ISSUES WITH THE FRONT END WHEN DRIVING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE FRONT END STARTS VIOLENTLY SHAKING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS 2 TIMES THIS WEEK AND BOTH TIMES ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT THROUGH ME ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A 2019 WITH LESS THAN 8,000 MILES ON IT. I ALSO HAVE MADE NO MODIFICATIONS TO IT- STANDARD FACTORY STOCK MODEL. I CAME HOME AND GOOGLED WHAT HAPPENED AND AM NOW LEARNING THIS IS THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE. WHY IN THE WORLD IS THIS VEHICLE ALLOWED TO BE DRIVEN WITH SUCH A KNOWN ISSUE?!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. KOONS TYSONS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP AND RAM (2050 CHAIN BRIDGE RD, VIENNA, VA) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.
UNCONTROLLABLE "WANDERING" AND "DRIFTING" ISSUE WITH VEHICLE AND STEERING AS WELL AS EXCESSIVE PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL. VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES THUS FAR AND THE ISSUE HAS BEEN VERBALLY ACKNOWLEDGED BY TECHNICIANS. HOWEVER, OUR UNDERSTANDING IS TECHNICIANS ARE CURRENTLY UNWILLING TO GO ON RECORD OR TO FIX IT PER JEEP CORPORATE INSTRUCTIONS.
PLEASE CHECK IF THERE IS A FLAW IN 2018-20 JEEP WRANGLER WINDSHIELDS. THEY EASILY CRACK, MULTIPLE TIMES. THERE ARE ENTIRE WEBSITES AND COMMUNITY GROUPS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO OWN A 2014 WRANGLER, AND HAVE REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD TWICE. WITH MY 2019 MODEL, I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE CRACKS AND REPLACED TWO WINDSHIELDS IN UNDER 3500 MILES OF A BRAND NEW CAR. YET, THE 2019 MODEL HAS A MORE ANGLED WINDSHIELD THAN THE PREVIOUS MODEL. THE ISSUE OCCURS AT ROAD TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND SIMPLE PEBBLES. AGAIN, MY TWO REPLACED WINDSHIELDS HAD MULTIPLE STREAKS, CRACKS, SPIDERS, ET AL BEFORE REPLACING. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE GLASS JEEP/MOPAR USE.
1300 MILES ON A 2019 NEW JEEP WRANGLER 2DR, 100% STOCK. AT 60MPH ON THE FREEWAY, IN SPEED CONTROL, SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LOST ALL CONTROL OF STEERING AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY, NEARLY CAUSING A MAJOR FREEWAY COLLISION. I'VE NOW LEARNED THIS IS THE WELL KNOWN 'DEATH WOBBLE'. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THE VEHICLE HAS THE DAMPER SUPPOSEDLY PREVENTING THIS ALREADY INSTALLED. THE DEALER HAS NO EXPLANATION, REPLACED THE 'DAMPER' AND BASICALLY SAID THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN. IF I HAD BEEN KILLED, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO HAVE IDENTIFIED THE CAUSE AS THE 'DEATH WOBBLE'. I SIMPLY DO NOT BELIEVE NO ONE HAS BEEN KILLED BY THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT. THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE DEALER DENIES HE HAS EVER HEARD OF THE DEATH WOBBLE, AN OBVIOUS LIE. THE SERVICE MANAGERS AT TWO DEALERS CLEARLY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM BUT SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I CAN'T BELIEVE THE WRANGLER HASN'T BEEN RECALLED AND REMOVED FROM SERVICE. THE LEMON LAW PROVIDES NO RECOURSE UNLESS IT HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES AND I'M LUCKY ENOUGH TO SURVIVE. THIS IS CRAZY! I HOPE SOMEONE NHTSA WILL REACH OUT TO ME.
AT SPEEDS OF 45-55 ANY BUMP OR EXPANSION JOINT ON HIGHWAY CAUSES SHAKING IN STEERING WHEEL FOR A SUSTAINED PERIOD OF TIME. IT LASTS WELL BEYOND THE IMPACT AND IF I MAINTAIN SPEEDS THE SHAKING IN THE WHEEL AND FRONT END CONTINUES. I HAVE TO ACTUALLY SLOW DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY FOR THE SHAKING TO GO AWAY. I DO NO'T FEEL SAFE TRAVELING WITH THIS VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAVE A PIT IN MY STOMACH THINKING ABOUT OTHERS WHO MAY HAVE THIS ISSUE. I WISH I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THESE ISSUES BEFORE I BOUGHT THE 2019 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED SAHARA. MY JEEP ONLY HAS 1,300 MILES ON IT.
Driving 60+ miles you hit a bump and the truck starts shaking real bad the whole truck That the only way to make the vehicle stop from shaking is slowing down the speed to 30 mph or complete stop until it goes away the terrible shaking. I already reemplace many suspension parts like the track bar,tie rod and the drag link and still having that issue
LEAVING FOR WORK IN THE MORNINGS AFTER THE TEMP HAS DROPPED BELOW 40 DEGREES THE STEERING WHEEL WILL BIND WHILE TRYING TO TURN LEFT. NORMALLY ONLY A SLIGHT RESISTANCE BUT ONE MORNING IT ALMOST CAUSED ME TO RUN OFF THE ROAD AROUND A LEFT HAND TURN, I HAD TO FORCE THE WHEEL TO TURN.
AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL FOR STEERING DAMPER TO FIX THE STEERING WHEEL WOBBLE WHEN DRIVING OVER A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I HAVE GOTTEN THE WOBBLE TWICE NOW. RECALL WAS APPROX 5,131 MILES. WOBBLE INCIDENT OCCURRED ONCE BEFORE RECALL AT 3,000 MILES. WOBBLE HAS ALSO OCCURRED AT APPROX 5,500 MILES AND APPROX 5,800. IT IS A VIOLENT WOBBLE THAT MAKES ME UNCOMFORTABLE AND SUSCEPTIBLE TO AN ACCIDENT ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK. *TR
THE VEHICLES WANDERS THE ROAD AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT IS A NIGHTMARE TO KEEP IN THE LANE . I AM ALWAYS STEERING TO KEEP IN BETWEEN THE LINES OF TRAVEL, AT LOW SPEEDS AND DEFINITELY HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
VEHICLE CONSTANTLY PULLS TO THE RIGHT ON STREET AND HIGHWAY. DEALER CANNOT FIX WITH ALIGNMENT. CHANGED GEARBOX. SWAPPED BRAKES. NOTHING HAS SOLVED PROBLEM.
Clutch failed at 4000 miles and 3 months of ownership on a brand new 2019 Wrangler Unlimited. Blame placed on me, 2 dealerships before they would do it with out charge. 3 months later 1st recall comes out. Also when clutch was failing the Start/Stop system said it needed service. The clutch went a second time after 30,000 miles. was forced to pay 2900, second recall came out at same time and the recall was done when new clutch was installed. Took almost a month and no loaner car or rental available. Now clutch starting to smell and fail, 30,000 miles later. Poor clutch, recalls did nothing to actually address the prob. The start/stop system failed twice leaving my jeep in run but the engine off and would not start. Kept saying push in clutch and start, but it would never start. all electrical in the car stayed on for 2 hours. A PCM needed to be replaced, 2+ weeks without a vehicle. Start/Stop failed again in traffic this time, needing to be pushed. Replaced battery, thought that it failed because the battery needed replacement. The problem still persists.
AFTER ABOUT 2 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP THE STEERING BECAME LOOSE AND AFTER GETTING UP TO ABOUT 40MPH THE CAR WILL START TO SWAY ON THE ROAD BY ITSELF WITH ABOUT 3IN OF NEUTRAL STEERING SPACE THAT HAS TO BE DEALT WITH TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD.
JEEP SLIPS OUT OF LOW RANGE INTO NEUTRAL. WHEN OFF ROAD ON STEEP TERRAIN, TRANSFER CASE SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL. THIS IS WHEN GOING UP OR DOWN DIRT TRAILS WITH AXLES LOCKED. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THIS OCCURS CAUSING JEEP TO LOSE MOMENTUM AND SLIDE UP OR DOWN HILLS. GENERALLY HAPPENS A FEW MINUTES AFTER ENGAGING LOW RANGE. *TR
WRANGLER STEERING IS LOOSE AND VEHICLE WANDERS WITHIN A LANE, OFTEN CROSSING LANES IF NOT PERFECTLY CONTROLLED. HANDS MOVE TWO TO FIVE INCHES WHILE YOU TRY TO KEEP A STRAIGHT CENTER PATH WITH THE VEHICLE. ANY MOVEMENT, SAY TURN UP THE RADIO SOUND VIA THE KNOB, OFTEN RESULTS IN THE VEHICLE SWERVING INTO ANOTHER LANE. DIFFICULTY IS MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER RECEIVING VEHICLE FROM DEALER. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO DEALER AND SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED ALL SPECS WERE CORRECT AND VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS IT SHOULD. DEALER STATED THAT FCA CHANGED THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE TO BETTER HANDLE OFF ROAD DRIVING AND THAT THE WANDERING DURING NORMAL DRIVING WAS NORMAL. I FEEL THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE IF THE UTMOST CONCENTRATION TO KEEP THE JEEP STRAIT IS NOT FOLLOWED. AT 60 YEARS OLD I AM NOT CONCERNED FOR MYSELF AS MUCH AS THE YOUNGER TEENAGERS AND ADULTS THAT EASILY GET DISTRACTED ETC.
VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER STEERING. FIRST OF MANY TIMES. WAS DRIVING AS NORMAL AND POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME ON.
THE STEERING HAS A HUGE DEAD SPOT WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL TURNS BUT DOES NOTHING TO EFFECT THE DIRECTION OF THE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WANDERS FROM ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO THE OTHER. THE DRAG LINK IS ALSO EXTREMELY LOOSE.
NEW WRANGLER WANDERS ON ROAD AND IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN LANE. TRIED ADJUSTING AIR IN TIRES TO MULTIPLE PRESSURES WITH LITTLE TO NO IMPROVEMENT. TOOK TO ATLANTIC DODGE/JEEP AND WAS TOLD "DRIVES COMPARABLE TO OTHER WRANGLERS WITH ELECTRIC STEERING AND SIMILAR TIRES. I DO NOT THINK IT IS NORMAL TO CONSTANTLY HAVE TO FIGHT THE VEHICLE TO REMAIN IN LANES.
THE WINDSHIELDS ON THE JEEP WRANGLERS CONTINUE TO BE A BANE OF OWNERS EVERYWHERE. THEY ARE MUCH TOO EASILY CHIPPED, CRACKED, AND DAMAGED OTHERWISE BECAUSE OF THE TERRIBLE LACK OF RAKE AND AERODYNAMICS TO REFLECT SMALL OBJECTS HARMLESSLY OFF THEM LIKE MOST OTHER AUTOS. THEY ARE ALSO A VISIBILITY HAZARD AS THEY ATTRACT SO MANY BUGS THAT CANNOT BE EASILY WASHED OFF WITH THE CONVENTIONAL WIPERS/FLUID. THIS HAPPENS ON A CONSISTENT BASIS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. JUST RESEARCH ALL THE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT CLAIMS FOR JEEP.
THE STEERING IS LOSE WITH A DEAD ZONE IN THE CENTER. I'M AFRAID TO TAKE IT ON THE INTERSTATE BECAUSE IT WONDERS INTO OTHER LANES AND DOES NOT DRIVE STRAIGHT. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD THE ALIGNMENT DONE AND A NEW STABILIZER BAR INSTALLED FROM THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO IMPROVEMENT TO THE STEERING. THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH MY 2019 JL WUR.
THE STEERING IN MY JLR FEELS DISCONNECTED AND UNPREDICTABLE'ESPECIALLY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. IT'S BEEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES FOR THIS AND I'VE ADDED SOME AFTERMARKET PARTS, WHICH HAVE HELPED. DESPITE THAT, IT IS STILL NOT RIGHT. THERE ARE TIMES THAT WHEN DRIVING CONSTANT CORRECTIONS ARE REQUIRED. THERE IS AROUND 2 TO 3 INCHES OF PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE STEERING SYSTEM DON'T FEEL IN SYNC. THIS OCCURS AT ANY SPEED ON THE FREEWAY OR SURFACE STREETS, BUT I'S MOST OBVIOUS ONCE UP TO FREEWAY SPEEDS. TURNING ON THE FREEWAY, SPECIFICALLY OFF RAMPS AND MOUNTAIN HIGHWAYS WITH TURNS ON ACCENTS AND DESCENTS CAN BE HARROWING. WE WERE ON US 50 ON THE WAY TO LAKE TAHOE BUT HAD TO TURN AROUND BECAUSE WE DIDN'T FEEL SAFE. I PUT TODAY'S DATE ON THE WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN FIELD, BUT IT'S BEEN SINCE NEW IN APRIL, 2019.
I PURCHASED A 2019 JEEP WRANGLER JL IN SEPTEMBER 2019 BRAND NEW 8 MILES ON THE CAR . I GAVE THE CAR TO MY WIFE AS A GIFT . SO SHE STARTED COMPLAINING ABOUT THE STEERING SO WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A COUPLE OF STEERING PARTS LEFT THE DEALER AND RIGHT AWAY I NOTICED THAT IT WAS STILL DRIVING THE SAME WITH TO MUCH PLAY ON THE STEERING . CALLED THEM RIGHT AWAY AND THEY SAID BRING IT BACK THEN A STEERING BOX WAS REPLACED STILL NO CHANGE HARD TO KEEP IN THE LINES SOME TIME IT HAS A HARD SHAKE ON THE RIGHT FRONT . SO WE TOOK IT BACK THEY MAID ADJUSTMENT, STILL THE SAME WIFE IS SCARED TO DRIVE IT . SO TOOK IT BACK 7 DAYS LATER THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG IT DRIVES AS DESIGNED SO 1 1/2 TO 2' PLAY ON THE WHEEL IS NORMAL STILL THE JEEP IS ALL OVER THE LINES AND TO TOP IT OFF MY WIFE WAS PULLED OVER BY FL KEY POLICE THING SHE WAS DRUNK AND HAD TAKE A ALCOHOL TEST AND SHE WAS CLEAN AND LET GO. STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY AFTER GOING OVER A MINOR BUMP OR ROAD ROUGHNESS WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS (55+) ON THE HIGHWAY. IT WILL SOMETIMES CORRECT ITSELF AND HAS NOT BEEN TOO BAD OF A SHAKE BUT OVER THE WEEKEND, I HAD TO SLOW DOWN FROM 70MPH TO 45MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF I95 B/C THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SO BAD AND WOULD NOT STOP SHAKING UNTIL I SLOWED MY SPEED DOWN. THIS WAS AS A RESULT OF GOING OVER A MINOR BUMP IN THE ROAD. ONE TIME IT HAPPENED WHILE GOING AROUND A CURVE IN THE HIGHWAY AND THE "RUMBLE STRIPS" TRIGGERED IT. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR THAT I PURCHASED IN JUNE. THIS WHEEL SHAKING JUST STARTED A FEW WEEKS AGO. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. IT IS UNSAFE AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHETHER SOMEONE REAR ENDS MY VEHICLE WHILE I AM ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN OR I LOSE CONTROL OF MY CAR B/C I CANNOT GET THE WHEEL SHAKING IN CONTROL.
I JUST PURCHASED A NEW 2019 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON WITH A MARCH 2019 BUILD DATE. AS OF RIGHT NOW, THE MILEAGE IS ABOUT 300 MILES. IT'S A PHENOMENAL VEHICLE, EXCEPT FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING THAT MAKES DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE. THERE IS EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE POINT WHERE IT'S DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE CENTERED IN THE LANE, PARTICULARLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE MOST CONCERNING SITUATION IS WHEN THERE IS AN ONCOMING CAR ON A NARROW ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE TENDS TO WANDER BACK AND FORTH, AND WHEN YOU CORRECT IT, IT SOMETIMES OVER-CORRECTS. I HAVE NOT YET RAISED THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEALER, BUT WILL VERY SOON. WHEN I RESEARCHED TO SEE IF THE STEERING CAN BE ADJUSTED, I DISCOVERED NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS ABOUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THERE CLEARLY IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING ON THE WRANGLER JL'S THAT JEEP NEEDS TO ADDRESS.
THIS VEHICLE WANDERS BADLY ON THE ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THERE IS SEVERAL INCHES OF PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. YOU CAN TURN IT SEVERAL INCHES AND THE VEHICLE DOESN'T TURN. THERE IS SIGNIFICANT WANDER IN THE STEERING. DEALER LOOKED AT IT, SAID YES THERE IS PLAY, BUT ALL JEEPS ARE LIKE THAT. SO, ALL JEEPS ARE DANGEROUS? NEED YOUR HELP TO GET FCA TO FIX THIS.
THIS ENTERPRISE RENT A CAR OWNED JEEP HAS UNDER 14,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. AT HIGHWAY SPEED ABOVE ABOUT 70 MPH, A SMALL BUMP OR TRIGGER SUCH AS AN OVERPASS EXPANSION JOINT, INITIATES VIOLENT SHAKING AND BOUNCING OF THE FRONT END. THE SHAKING DOES NOT DISSIPATE UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SLOWED TO ABOUT 30 MPH. THIS PROBLEM IS EASILY REPEATABLE. HIGHWAY SPEED + LITTLE TRIGGER YIELDS VIOLENT SHAKING. THE SHAKING IS SO STRONG THAT 2 HANDS ON THE WHEEL ARE NEEDED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM CAREENING OUT OF CONTROL.
STEERING FEELS EXTREMELY LOOSE AND REQUIRES CONSTANT MINOR CORRECTIONS WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED.
REAR SIDE WINDOWS ON 2019 JEEP WRANGLER BLEW OUT WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, EVEN WHEN INSTALLED PROPERLY. ON OUR JEEP, THE WINDOW DIDN'T COMPLETELY FALL OUT, SO IT WAS DISCONNECTED AND WAS HANGING. OTHERS I HAVE KNOWN HAVE LOST THEIR WINDOWS ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO WAIT WEEKS OR MONTHS FOR REPLACEMENT WINDOWS BECAUSE THERE AREN'T ENOUGH AVAILABLE TO DEALERS.
ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2019, I RENTED A 2019 JEEP WRANGLER IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA. OVER THE COURSE OF 8 DAYS THIS VEHICLE HAD THREE INCIDENTS OF EXTREME STEERING SYSTEM VIBRATION, AKA, DEATH WOBBLE. THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED ON PAVED HIGHWAYS WHILE TRAVELING AT 45MPH, 60 MPH AND 65 MPH. DURING THESE EPISODES OF DEATH WOBBLE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, SIMILAR TO EXPERIENCING A TIRE BLOWOUT AND WAS DIFFICULT TO KEEP UNDER CONTROL. APPLYING THE BRAKES SLOWLY TOOK THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE WOBBLE ONCE THE SPEED WAS REDUCED TO ABOUT 10 MPH. FORTUNATELY NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF THESE INCIDENTS, HOWEVER THESE WERE EXTREMELY VIOLENT EPISODES AND COULD LEAD TO TRAGIC CONSEQUENCES IF THE NECESSARY REPAIRS ARE NOT ADDRESSED.
JEEP IS STILL LOOSING CONTROL WHEN YOU GO OVER ANY UNEVEN PAVEMENT ON HIGHWAY GOING OVER 60MPH AFTER I DID THE RECALL ALMOST KILLED MY SELF, BRAKES BRAKE EXTREMLY HARD AND DONT STOP WITHOUT JERKING YOU FORWARD
MY 2019 WRANGLER JLU RUBICON STEERS LIKE A BOAT. IT WANDERS LEFT AND RIGHT WHEN GOING STRAIGHT....HAS SINCE NEW AND I HAVE OVER 7300 MILES ON IT NOW. I'VE UPGRADED THESTEERING DAMPNER WITH AN AFTERMARKET FOX DAMPNER. IT HELPED JUST A BIT, BUT THE STEERING STILL REQUIRES CONSTANT CORRECTIONS.
SUNDAY 22 SEPT 2019 JEEP WRANGLER JL DRIVING BACK HOME FROM WORK AT ABOUT 40-60 MPH THE STEERING WAS ALL OVER THE ROAD. I ALMOST HIT 3 VEHICLES JUST TRYING TO GET HOME. SOMETHING WAS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE STEERING . BOUGHT THE JEEP IN APR DROVE FANTASTIC LIKE A CAR FOR THE LAST 4 MONTHS. LAST WEEK I GOT A U-CONNECT NOTICE SAFETY RECALL TO AVOID DRIVING IT AND TAKE TO A DEALERSHIP SOONEST FOR A STABILIZER ISSUE. CALLED A DEALERSHIP RIGHT AWAY, THEY GOT ME IN NEXT DAY SATURDAY AT 0630AM. 0830 THE WORKMANSHIP OR ADJUSTMENTS WERE DONE. ONLY DROVE IT TWICE SINCE THEN YESTERDAY - SUNDAY ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK, IT TOTALLY SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME. CALLED JEEP NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER 877..... THEY SAID TRY TO TAKE TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AGAIN. I TOOK A VIDEO ON HOW IT WAS ACTING ON THE ROAD I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING OBVIOUS WRONG ANYWHERE. BOLTS WERE TIGHT NO LEAKING OR WET SPOTS ANYWHERE NOTHING LOOSE TO THE TOUCH THIS IS MY 3RD JEEP IN MY LIFE AND SOMETHING WAS SERIOUS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. LAST 35 YEARS OF DRIVING , THIS ONE DROVE SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT JT
STEERING IS LOOSE, MOST NOTICEABLE AROUND 50MPH WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING STRAIGHT. IT CAN OFTEN BE WHITE KNUCKLE DRIVING WHEN CARS ARE AROUND. THE RESPONSE FOR SLIGHT CORRECTIONS IS LACKING. THERE SEEMS TO BE AN INCH OR TWO OF PLAY IN THE WHEEL BEFORE IT RESPONDS. YOU DRIFT IN THE LANE AND FEEL UNSAFE. MY JEEP IS AROUND 1 MONTH OLD, ONLY HAS ABOUT 800 MILES ON IT. BOTH MY WIFE AND I COMMENTED ON IT WHEN NEW. IT'S OUR FIRST JEEP, SO WE CHALKED IT UP TO JUST BEING A 'JEEP THING'. AFTER READING ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION, WE REALIZED THIS IS LIKELY A BIGGER PROBLEM AND IT'S NOT A 'JEEP THING'.
FOLLOW ON TO LAST WEEKS INITIAL INPUT OF CASE NUMBER 11257557 NHTSA # REF: VIN NUMBER [XXX] RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTE TO IMMEDIATELY COME TO A DEALERSHIP AND GET THE STEERING STABILIZER FIXED OR REPLACED. (NOTE I DIDN'T HAVE ANY ISSUE DRIVING FOR THE PAST 4 MONTHS UNTIL THIS RECALL NOTE.) I DID THAT (WENT TO FARICY BOYS COLORADO SPRINGS DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED A PART OR TWO.IN APPROX. 2 HOURS. NEXT DAY DROVE IT AND IT WAS A LOT WORSE, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP.....THEY THEN REPLACED THE STEERING BOX AND THE PITMAN ARM. (RECEIPT ATTACHED) IT TOOK THEM 2 DAYS TO DO THAT. I THEN DROVE IT AGAIN.....IT WAS A LOT WORSE I PULLED OVER ON THE ROAD AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED WET MARKS ALL OVER THE PARTS UNDER THE VEHICLE AS IF SOMETHING WAS LEAKING (PICTURES ATTACHED) I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN ALL THEY DID WAS USE A CLEANER ON THE ONE SECTION UNDERNEATH AND SAID ALL IS GOOD. I TOOK MORE PICTURES OF THE ISSUE AND YOU CAN SEE MORE WET AREAS UNDER THE VEHICLE. I STATED EITHER THEY SPILLED SOMETHING WHEN THEY PULLED THE PART OR SOMETHING WAS NOT TIGHTENED AT THIS POINT CAUSING THE LEAKING NOW. THEY SAID ALL WAS GOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS SMELLING OF SOMETHING BURNING UNDER THE VEHICLE. I THEN TOOK IT TO A VEHICLE CLEANING SERVICE TO GET THE WHOLE UNDERCARRIAGE CLEANED TO STOP THE BAD SMELL AND DE-GREASED THE COMPLETE UNDERNEATH OF THE VEHICLE. TODAY AGAIN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVING (WANDERING AS DRIVING ON THE ROAD) I TOOK ANOTHER VIDEO AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT WAS WONDERING AND PULLED INTO THE RIGHT LANE AS I AM DRIVING ....TOTALLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS MOMENT. I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2019 JEEP JL 4 DOOR WRANGLER SPORT, HAS LESS THAN 1000 MILES AND NOTICE THE PROBLEM RIGHT AFTER PURCHASE DRIVING HOME 2 HOMES FROM DEALERSHIP. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME AFTER DRIVING A DODGE RAM PICKUP FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS AND FIGURED IT WAS A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE STEERING. TOOK OUR FIRST 4 HOUR TRIP AND NOTICE THAT THE JEEP WAS PULLING TO RIGHT AND THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF PLAY (2-4 INCHES) IN THE STEERING, THAT BY THE TIME I GOT DONE MY DRIVING I WAS EXHAUSTED. TOOK THE JEEP INTO LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP SERVICE TO HAVE CHECKED. THEY DETERMINED THAT ALIGNMENT WAS OUT OF SPECS AND FIXED. TOOK ANOTHER 4 HOUR TRIP LAST WEEKEND AND THE STEERING WAS WORST. TO KEEP JEEP DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE I HAD TO KEEP STEERING WHEEL TURNED TO LEFT SLIGHTLY. WHENEVER I TRIED TO STRAIGHTEN STEERING WHEEL THE JEEP WOULD DRIFT TO RIGHT AGAIN AND STEERING HAD JUST AS MUCH OR MORE PLAY IN IT AS BEFORE. JUST TOOK IT BACK INTO SERVICE AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT WAS PROBABLY JUST THE "CROWN IN THE ROAD" THAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I CAME HOME AND RESEARCHED MY PROBLEM AND FOUND THIS WEBSITE WHERE I SEE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THE PROBLEM. THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND RECALLED TO FIX PROPERLY OR THERE WILL BE CRASHES AND I PRAY TO GOD NO FATALITIES.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HWY AT 70MPH IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP MY JEEP IN ITS LANE. A FEW TIMES I WAS VERY NERVOUS AND EVEN FELT A LITTLE UNSAFE. JEEP SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. THERE IS NO WAY THAT IT CAN BE 'NORMAL' TO HAVE A VEHICLE DRIVE THIS WAY.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES VIOLENT SHAKING AFTER GOING OVER A SERIES OF BUMPS. IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN YOUR LANE. IT IS ONLY REMEDIED BY SLOWING TO LESS THAN 60MPH. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES. IT HAS HAPPENED OVER A DOZEN TIMES OVER THE PAST MONTH. I HAVE 8000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.
AS I DROVE OFF THE LOT I NOTICED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAD A DISTORTION ON IT. DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO FIX (AFTER A SOFTWARE UPGRADE). MORE CONCERNING IS THE CAR SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. I TOOK IT IN 3 TIMES WITHOUT RESOLUTION. ALWAYS ON THE HIGHWAY, AT FIRST AT HIGH SPEEDS, NOW EVEN GOING BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT. SOMETIMES IT RESOLVES ON IT'S OWN, BUT LATELY I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP TO MAKE THE SHAKING STOP. (WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING ON A 65MPH HIGHWAY), THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES LEFT TO RIGHT AND IS VERY LOOSE DURING THESE TIMES. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE AND IT FEELS LIKE THE WHEELS ARE GOING TO FALL OFF. THIS IS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. IT HAPPENED 5 TIMES ON A 15 MILE TRIP TO WORK THIS MORNING AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN LATE FEBRUARY 2019.
HARD TO CONTROL AT FREEWAY SPEED. WORRIED ABOUT WELDS ON MINE. DRIVE WITH KIDS ALL THE TIME.*DT *AS
I NOTICED STEERING PLAY WITH THE VEHICLE DURING SOME POINTS ITS DIFFICULT TO KEEP IT IN A LANE ESPECIALLY DURING HIGHWAY TRAVEL. THEN WHEN I WAS UNDER THE VEHICLE INSTALLING A TRAILER HITCH I STARTED NOTICING PITTED, INCOMPLETE, DISCONNECTED AND (POSSIBLY RUSTY) WELDS ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS A BUILD DATE OF ONLY TWO MONTHS PRIOR.
SINCE NEW, VEHICLE HAS WANDERED FROM SIDE TO SIDE ON THE ROAD WITH NO STEERING INPUT. STEERING FEELS LOOSE AND DOES NOT RESPOND INSTANTLY TO INPUT. WE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY PERFORMED A STEERING "FLASH" THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THE FLASH DID NOT SEEM TO CHANGE ANYTHING WITH THE WAY THE VEHICLE STEERS AND WANDERS FROM SIDE TO SIDE. WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS IS JUST HOW ALL JEEPS STEER. IT SEEMS UNREASONABLE THAT YOU MUST CONSTANTLY PROVIDE STEERING WHEEL INPUT TO ATTEMPT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE WITHIN IT'S LANE. A RELAXING DRIVE IN THIS VEHICLE IS IMPOSSIBLE. IT REQUIRES YOU TO BE HYPER AWARE OF EXACTLY WHERE THE VEHICLE IS DRIFTING WITHIN IT'S LANE TO PROVIDE CORRECTIVE INPUT. SIMPLY STATING THIS IS HOW THEY ALL DRIVE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. BOTH THE LOOSE STEERING FEEL AND LANE DRIFTING/WANDERING HAPPEN AT ALL SPEEDS. HIGHWAY OR CITY.
Since new Jeep has experienced "excess play in the steering" the Jeeps steering "wanders" and vehicle pulls to both the left and right. Steering wandering increases in hot temperatures and at higher speeds and becomes UNSAFE to operate the vehicle. When purchasing new, I noticed the "excess play in the steering", but was told by the Jeep salesperson that "that's how Jeeps drive" and "They do not drive like typical passenger vehicles". I did not take my Jeep in for service for this issue because the salesperson told me that this is how the vehicle is designed to drive. However, I recently found out that Jeep issued a Technical Service Bulletin #08-074-20 REV.B back on September 26, 2020 that addresses this issue of "excess play in the steering" and "wandering" and the TSB gives recommendations to fix the steering by installing a new and improved Steering Gear Box that is made from steel as opposed to aluminum. I took my Jeep into a Jeep dealership with regards to this issue. The Jeep dealership confirmed that I have the "old style" steering gearbox mentioned in Technical Service Bulletin #08-074-20 REV.B and recommended that I replace it with the new design as recommended by the TSB. I asked Jeep to repair by vehicle free of charge as this is a "known" issue on Jeep Wrangler JL 2018-2020 as described in the TSB, but Jeep refused to pay for the safetly modification to my steering, stating that I am "out of the warranty period". This is a KNOWN manufacture defect. Jeep installed inferior aluminum steering gear boxes on their Jeep Wrangler JL 2018-2020 and 2020 Jeep Gladiators and they have since upgraded that critical safety component to a "steel version." Jeep should without question issue a "recall" to fix all current Jeep owners 2018-2020 Wrangler JLs and 2020 Jeep Gladiators that have a faulty aluminum steering gear box and replace it with the upgraded steel version that fixes the "wandering steering" and "excess play in the steering".
THE FRONT WHEELS SHIMMY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS WHEN HITTING A SLIGHT UNEVEN SEAM OR JOINT IN THE ROAD BED, THE DEALER PUT A DAMPENER ON BUT THE ISSUE IS STILL THERE, JUST NOT AS PRONOUNCED. THE DRIVE TRAIN / TRANSMISSION / DIFFERENTIAL HAS "LOCKED UP" VIOLENTLY STOPPING THE JEEP, THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE SO FAR BUT I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR A FEW MONTHS. BOTH TIMES I WAS MOVING SLOWLY FORWARD IN DRIVE JUST LEAVING A PARKING SPACE ON THE SIDE OF THE STREET. I PUT IT IN PARK, THEN BACK IN DRIVE AND IT MOVED NORMALLY. IT SOUNDS LIKE METAL ON METAL WHEN IT HAPPENS AND IS VERY SUDDEN!
HANDLING WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS IS TERRIBLE. THE STEERING CONSTANTLY WANDERS AND REQUIRES NOT STOP CORRECTIONS TO MAINTAIN LANE POSITION. IF ANY BUMPS IN THE ROAD OR WIND IS PRESENT, THE RISK OF WANDERING INTO ANOTHER LANE IS GREATLY INCREASED AND I HAVE NARROWLY AVOIDED SEVERAL COLLISIONS WITH OTHER VEHICLES ALREADY.
VEHICLE WANDERS AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME IT IS DRIVEN ON FREEWAYS. REQUIRES CONSTANT STEERING CORRECTIONS IN ATTEMPT TO REMAIN IN ITS OWN LANE. IT IS EXHAUSTING TO DRIVE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. HAS BEEN TO DEALERS 3 TIMES FOR OVER 9 WEEKS WITH NO RESOLUTION. TYPICAL DEALER RESPONSES INCLUDE, NO PROBLEM FOUND, CANNOT DUPLICATE OR ITS A JEEP THING. *TR
I PICKED UP MY NEW JEEP AT THE DEALER AND WENT NOT EVEN A COUPLE BLOCKS AWAY AND NOTICED THE STEERING WAS REALLY SLOPPY. THE DEALER CALLED TO GET MY EMAIL AND I TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. THEY SAID BRING IT BACK, WHICH I DID TODAY( THE NEXT MORNING.) TOO MUCH PLAY, CONSTANT CORRECTIONS, DRIFTED. I JUST DROPPED IT OFF AND THEY SAID IT HAD A STEERING DAMPER RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IS MY 3RD JEEP WRANGLER(1999 AND 2004) WERE MY OTHER ONES AND THEY WERE FINE. JEEP NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ASAP. IT IS NOT SAFE AND I AM NOT VERY HOPEFUL THIS RECALL WILL FIX IT.
THE STEERING IS SLOPPY WITH 2-4 INCHES OF "PLAY" IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN DRIVING. I HAVE HAD THE RECALL DONE FOR DAMPENER REPLACEMENT, BUT IT STILL TRIES TO "WALK" THE ROAD SIDE TO SIDE DUE TO THE SLACK IN THE STEERING. I AM TOLD THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRICAL ASSIST, BUT IT NEEDS ADDRESSED. I DRIVE FOR HOURS AND HAVING TO FIGHT THIS BACK AND FORTH THE ENTIRE TIME IS UNSAFE. ALSO, THE WINDSHIELDS ARE NOT SLOPED ENOUGH FOR AREAS WHERE THERE ARE MANY BUGS. THE WINDSHIELD BECOMES SO CONGESTED WITH SPLATTERED BUGS IT'S HARD TO SEE. THE WASHERS AND WIPERS CANNOT SCRAPE AWAY THE DEBRIS EITHER BECAUSE THE IMPACT IS SO HARD IS PLASTERS THEM TO THE GLASS, AND TAKES HIGH PRESSURE WATER OR VIGOROUS SCRUBBING TO REMOVE. THIS IS A POOR WINDSHIELD DESIGN FLAW THAT MOST EVERY OTHER AUTOMOBILE DOES NOT HAVE AN ISSUE WITH.
FROM THE MOMENT WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE (09/10/2019) THE STEERING HAS BEEN A PROBLEM. THE CAR REQUIRES CONSTANT INPUT FROM THE DRIVER TO MAINTAIN THE LANE OF TRAVEL. THE STEERING PROBLEM BECOMES WORSE WITH SPEED AND IT IS A HANDFUL AT FREEWAY SPEEDS.
DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING MY JEEP WRANGLER DRIFTS SLOWLY BACK AND FORTH. I HAVE NOTICED THIS SINCE THE FIRST TIME DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. I HAVE COMPLAINED AT DEALER IN PADUCAH, KENTUCKY AND WAS TOLD IT'S NORMAL. I ALSO HAVE HAD ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHERE THE AIR CONDITIONER QUIT WORKING. AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS TO FIX, THE DEALER SERVICE MAN FOUND A SHORT IN A JUNCTION UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER THAT WAS PREPARED, THE RADIO, INFO. SCREEN WENT BLANK. IT CAME BACK ON. A SEAT BACK RELEASE HAD TO BE REPLACED TOO. ALL OF THIS AND LESS THAN 4000 MILES ON ODOMETER.
