THE PAINT IS PEELING IN SEVERAL AREAS ON THE HOOD, AROUND THE FRONT WINDOW AND ABOVE THE DOORS.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY DIM. I have changed the bulbs and you can not see out of this vehicle at night. I have checked to see if there is a recall or something. A lot of people have issue with this year make and model of this vehicle. The other problem I am having is the paint peeling with the Snow white color of my vehicle. Large spots of paint is coming off and missing. this vehicle is kept under the carport. Yet, large spots of paint comes off.
MY CAR PUTS OUT EXHAUST AND LOSES POWER WHILE STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDDLE. OIL DISAPPEARS WHEN THIS HAPPENS. HAVE TO PUT OIL IN MY CAR ABOUT EVERY 2 WEEKS. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR WON'T GO. BEEN IN SHOP 4 TIMES BUT KIA WILL NOT FIX IT CORRECTLY BECAUSE THE ENGINE CODE THAT THEY NEED TO FIX THE ENGINE DOESN'T COME ON SO I NOW DON'T HAVE A CAR TO DRIVE BECAUSE THEY SAY THE ONLY FIX IS A NEW ENGINE BUT THEY WON'T FIX IT. ON GOING ISSUE FOR PAST 5 MONTHS. SAME THING EVERYTIME. THEY PUT A BANDAGE ON IT AND THEN IT LASTS FOR ABOUT 2 TO 5 WEEKS AND THEN DIES AGAIN. SAME ISSUE EVERY SINGLE TIME. THIS HAPPENS WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION AND THEN WHEN IT LOSES POWER MY CAR JUST SLOWS DOWN VERY QUICKLY AND WON'T GO. DANGEROUS/SCARY WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR ALSO DOES THIS BUCKING WHERE IT FEELS LIKE IT IS TRYING TO GO BUT WON'T.
TOLD I NEED A NEW ENGINE BUT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I CALLED KIA AND THEY SAID TO GET A SECOND OPINION. MY ENGINE IS GETTING WORSE IN THE MEANTIME AND IT CONCERNS ME TO DRIVE IT. FROM A QUART AFTER 800 MILES TO 2.5 QUARTS AFTER 950 MILES IN ONLY A COUPLE OF MONTHS. WAS TOLD PIL CONSUMPTION IS NOT PART OF THE CURRENT RECALL, THOUGH MANY MECHANICS HAVE TOLD ME OTHERWISE. I HAVE LESS THAN 100K MILES ON IT MY CAR SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA OPTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CHECK OIL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING SOUND WAS DETECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT STALLED. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE MOTOR SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON A SENSOR WAS REPLACED BUT IT STILL COMES ON
WHILE DRIVING OR AT AN IDLING POSITION WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS STRAIGHT AND YOU MOVE IT LEFT OR RIGHT ABOUT AN INCH THERE IS A CLICKING NOISE. IT ALSO DOES THIS WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. IT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 3WKS NOW. I CALLED THE RECALL CORPORATE OFFICE AND APPARENTLY THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS HOWEVER, THERE ARE NOW 120 COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM... IS SOMETHING GOING TO BE DONE OR ARE WE WAITING FOR AN ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN??
'GLOW RELAY RECALL' VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND REQUIRED ME TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS SCANNED FOR THE CODE AND CAME UP AS P1326 'GLOW RELAY STUCK ON'. I LOOKED IT UP AND SAW THAT IT CAN BE COMMON IN THE HYUNDAI SONATA WHICH IS HYUNDAI'S VERSION OF A KIA OPTIMA WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND HYUNDAI DOES HAVE A RECALL FOR THAT ISSUE.
ENGINE SEIZED WHILE DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY ALMOST CAUSING A ACCIDENT. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS MATTER AND WAS NOT INFORMED TO ME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA OPTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE HORN FAILED TO SOUND. KIA OF IRVINE (LOCATED AT 45 OLDFIELD, IRVINE, CA 92618, 949-612-9514) WAS CALLED AND STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE NOT COVERED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V363000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
WHILE STEERING THE STEERING WHEEL MAKE A CLICKING SOUND ALMOST LIKE SOMETHING IS BROKEN. THIS STEERING ISSUE HAPPENS WHETHER STATIONARY OR MOVING. THE SOUND ONLY HAPPENS WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. ONCE HOME, AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON. DRIVING THE NEXT MORNING WE PAID ATTENTION TO THE BRAKE LIGHT IN THE REAR WINDOW AND EVERY TIME THE CAR WOULD START TO SLOW DOWN OR SEEM TO LOSE POWER THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON. IT IS ALMOST AS IF THE BRAKES ARE ENGAGING ON THEIR OWN. YOU COULD SEE THE LIGHT FLICKERING BUT IF YOU HOLD YOUR FOOT UNDER THE PEDAL TO KEEP IT FROM MOVING THERE WAS NO ISSUE.
STERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IS GETTING STUCK WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT.STERING WHEEL HAS A SIZEABLE PLAY.IT SEEMS THAT IS GETTING WORST BOTH PROBLEMS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CONCORD KIA (2199 MERIDIAN PARK BLVD, CONCORD, CA 94520) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN AN UNKNOWN RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE UNKNOWN RECALL. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT A YEAR LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I OWN A 2013 KIA OPTIMA MY CAR WOULDN'T START. THEN AFTER A FEW TRIES IT STARTED UP. THEN IT DID IT AGAIN. MY CAR WOULDN'T START. MY CAR WOULD STALL OUT. THEN IT STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE. THE NEXT DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. MY ODOMETER JUST HIT OVER 100,000 A FEW WEEKS BEFORE. I MADE AN APPT AT A KIA DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT BUT IT'S NOT UNTIL NEXT WEEK. I'VE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 3 MONTHS. I JUST PURCHASED IT. NOW I'VE LEARNED ABOUT THE KIA RECALL SC147 & NHTSA RECALL 17V224000 ON BEARINGS THAT LEAD TO ENGINE SEIZURE & THAT CAN LEAD TO METAL IN THE OIL. AND IT CAUSES A KNOCKING NOISE. I AM POSITIVE THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY CAR. I HOPE THE KIA DEALERSHIP WILL FIX MY CAR NEXT WEEK THAT'S THE EARLIEST APPOINTMENT THEY HAVE. I HOPE I CAN GET A CAR LOANER.
THE VIN DID NOT GET THAT THIS IS AN OPTIMA HYBRID, WHICH ISN'T IN THE RECALL, SC145, BUT HAS SIMILAR SYMPTOMS, ONLY KIA OPTIMAS. DRIVING AT 75MPH, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO GET AROUND A CAR AND I FELT/STARTED HEARING ROD KNOCK. AT IDLE THE SOUND IS WORSENED ONLY BECAUSE I'M NOT GOING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I'M WORRIED THAT THE ENGINE COULD HAVE SEIZED AND CREATED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS ROD FAILURE AT THE KIA DEALERSHIP. THE CAR HAS 116,000 MILES AND IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY. THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP OUT IN ANY WAY BECAUSE IT'S NOT PART OF THE RECALL PROGRAM.
WHILE ACCELERATING VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER EVEN THOUGH GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED. THERE WERE NO RPMS SHOWING AT ALL NO MATTER WHAT SPEED I WAS DRIVING. CAR WOULD ACCELERATE UNTIL ENGINE POWER LOST, I WOULD LET OFF THE GAS, CAR WOULD SHIFT HARD AND THEN I COULD ACCELERATE AGAIN UNTIL JUST PRIOR TO NEXT GEAR. SAME THING WOULD HAPPEN. ALSO, WHEN THIS OCCURRED, I LOST ALL AIR CONDITIONING COOLING. FAN WOULD BLOW BUT NO COLD AIR.. DROVE FINE PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING AND DROVE FINE AFTER CAR SAT OVER NIGHT. HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE ISSUE BUT HAVE VIDEO AND PICTURES SHOWING NO RPM, BUT TRAVELLING/ ACCELERATING
MY DAUGHTER REAR ENDED ANOTHER CAR. HER AIR BAGS DID NO DEPLOY AND HER SEAT BELT DIDN'T LOCK. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS HURT.
WHILE I WENT ON THE HIGHWAY THE ACCELERATION FELT VERY SLUGGISH AND HAD A HARD TIME SPEEDING UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT. THE CAR ONLY GOT WORSE AS I WENT ON A STREET AND IT FELT AS THOUGH IT DID NOT WANT TO GO, LIKE IT LOST MOST OF ITS POWER. TURNS OUT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE ENGINE BUT I FEEL THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE UNDER A NEWER RECALL BUT ISN'T, AS SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE EXHAUST AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WASN'T EVEN ON. SOMEHOW THE CAR WAS OUT OF OIL WITH NO LIGHT COMING ON TO INDICATE THAT AND RECENTLY ABOUT A WEEK AGO OIL WAS PUT IN, AND WEEKS PRIOR OIL WAS PUT IN.
BACK IN 2016 THE STEERING RECALL ISSUE WAS REPAIRED ON MY VEHICLE. IN FED 2017 DURING THE 50K MILE WARRANTY INSPECTION KIA REPLACED THE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY. ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY STEERING BEGAN TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, LOTS OF PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL, VIBRATIONS FELT THROUGH THE PEDALS INTO THE STEERING. KIA IS NOW SAYING IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL THAT IT IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR TO A VEHICLE STEERING SHAFT OR ASSEMBLY. WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING IS VIBRATING AND DOES NOT FEEL TOTALLY CONNECTED TO THE WHEELS.
My paint has been peeling off over the years and it just really got bad to the point I could not take it any more. So I finally look to see if the was other vehicles within that year make and model had the same problems and this is why I am doing this.
MY ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL BOX HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH ONLY 66,000 MILES. THE STEERING BECAME BUMPY WITH NOISE. IT HAPPENED WHEN SLIGHTLY TURNING THE WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION.
DROVE TO GET ICE CREAM AND CAR WAS RUNNING WELL, WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. SHIFT THE CAR OFF TO ORDER ICE CREAM, AND WHEN GETTING BACK IN THE CAR, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. ALL THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND MY MUSIC WOULD PLAY AS WELL AS THE AC TURNED ON, BUT NOTHING MORE THAN AN ALMOST SILENT TICKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. HAD MY HUSBAND TRY TO JUMP THE CAR TO SEE IF THAT HELPS, AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME AND THE NEXT MORNING, MY HUSBAND AND I REPLACED THE IGNITION SENSOR FUSE AND THE CAR STARTED. THEN A COUPLE HOURS LATER I TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN, AND IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING. CAR HAS BEEN DISABLED EVER SINCE AND IS GOING ON 1 WEEK NOW. CAR BROKE DOWN ON WEDNESDAY 31 JULY, 2019. NOT TO MENTION THAT I JUST HAD MY RADIATOR COOLING FAN REPLACED TWO DAYS PRIOR TO THIS BREAKDOWN. I ALSO HAD MY REPLACEMENT RECALL ENGINE PLACED IN JUST ABOUT A MONTH AGO. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE HAPPENING AFTER THE RECALL HAS BEEN PLACED, AND THE ONLY THING I GET IS KICK BACK WHEN I SAY THIS CANNOT BE COINCIDENTAL. I GET TOLD THAT MY CAR HAS MANY MILES ON IT SO THINGS ARE EXPECTED TO BREAK. UNACCEPTABLE AND UNAPPRECIATED AND JUST DOWN RIGHT WRONG. *TR
Around approximately 76,000 miles on the vehicle, I noticed paint (snow white pearl) started bubbling and coming off the hood. I assumed it was from a rock chip. The paint bubbling and chipping is now occurring all over the vehicle. I've spoken with two different KIA dealers (in Charlotte, NC and Salisbury, NC) and they've both said there are no recalls from KIA and there's nothing they can do but offer to repaint the car for THOUSANDS of dollars. I'm finding new spots every month. There are now 93,000 miles on the car, and I do NOT feel like the paint should be failing like this at all. I will attach pictures if allowed. I doubt I can upload all of the places on my car that have chips at this point.
THE STEERING STICKS AND THERE IS OBVIOUS EVIDENCE OF RESISTANCE WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO PATTERSON KIA IN ARLINGTON, TX AND THEY PERFORMED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THIS IS A MECHANICAL ISSUE AND OF GREAT SAFETY CONCERNS. THIS IS SUBSEQUENT TO PRIOR RECALL SERVICE PERFORMED ON THE STEERING.
MY KIA HAS LESS THAN 40,000 MILES AND THE LINE BESIDE THE TURBO IS LEAKING OIL LIKE CRAZY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA OPTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSUMED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL AND THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL CLINKING NOISE. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE AND OIL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND FLASHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SOUTHWEST KIA OF ROCKWALL (1790 INTERSTATE HWY 30, ROCKWALL, TX 75087, (469) 402-2900) WHERE AN ENGINE KNOCKING TEST WAS PERFORMED, BUT IT FAILED TWICE. IN ADDITION, OIL WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO WHAT WAS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,,856. *TT *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME A FEW GUYS I WORK WITH AND HAD NO PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE BEFORE, AND ON MY DRIVE HOME I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT AS THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THE LIGHT THEN TURNED GREEN AND I CASUALLY FOLLOWED THE SPEED OF THE TRAFFIC NO MORE THAN 150 FT BEFORE THE MOTOR STARTED SQUEALING AND KNOCKING, COME TO FIND OUT IT'S A RECALL THE REGULAR KIA OPTIMAS HAVE, IT'S SPUN A BEARING IN THE 3RD CYLINDER AND KIA REFUSES TO REPLACE IT SAYING THAT IT ISN'T COVERED BECAUSE IT'S THE HYBRID WITH THE SAME ISSUE. KIA NEEDS TO OWN UP TO IT. I USED THIS VEHICLE AS A WORK TRANSPORT AND HAS ALWAYS HAD ITS MAINTENANCE DONE. NOW I'M OUT A VEHICLE AND KIA IS IGNORING MY MESSAGES TO THEM. I'M VERY UNSATISFIED WITH THE WAY KIA HAS TREATED ME. NO ONE HAS REACHED OUT TO ME, JUST IGNORING ME AS A CUSTOMER. DISSATISFACTION, MAJOR DISSATISFACTION.
THE IGNITION SWITCH WON'T TURN, CAR SEEMS TO BE ON EVEN THOUGH LETS AREN'T IN IGNITIINNSWITCH, RADIO COMES ON BUT CAR LET STICK IN ON POSITION AND WON'T TURN..DOORS WON'T LOCK UNLESS KEY IS USED
ENGINEERING DIED WITH NO WARNIGS ON STATE HIGHWAY 33 WHILE MOVING
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START MY VEHICLE EVERYTHING TURNED ON IN THE CAR EXCEPT THE CAR ITSELF. BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF AND NOTHING WOULD TURN THE ENGINE ON. IT TOOK OVER 10 MINUTES AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO FIRE. HAS HAPPENED TWICE TODAY 7/13/19. THE VEHICLE IS A PUSH BUTTON START WITH BATTERY CHARGE OF 95% AND NEW BATTERIES IN THE FOB.
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY MY KIA SUDDENLY STALLED CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO STEER THE CAR OFF THE FREEWAY BARELY AVOIDING GETTING STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. LUCKILY TRAFFIC WASN'T BAD BUT I DID HAVE TO AVOID GETTING HIT BY ONCOMING CARS.

WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AND MOMENTS LATER SMOKE AND FLAMES WAS PRESENT COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
The hid headlights. Specifically low beams go dim.They are so dim you can not drive safely at night. Change the bulbs and still the same issue.My understanding the reflector housing on the projector gets worn out and does reduce the light output of low beams. This is a driving hazard at night.this issue affecting the sx and sxl models with hid projector headlights.

THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS IT CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS BURNED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT SURE IF A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
CAR STOPPED WORKING MOTOR MAKING LOUD POPPING SOUNDS AND STOPPED ON ME..THERE WAS NO INDICATION OR WARNINGS..
I HAVE OWNED MY VEHICLE FOR 3 YEARS. MY AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT HAS COME ON FIR I THE 2ND TIME. I SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY ARE SHOWING NO DESIRE TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM WITHOUT THE BEING A SIZABLE EXPENSE TO MYSELF. ALSO MY BACK UP CAMERA IS SHOWING SIGNS OF CONNECTION ISSUES. BOTH I FEEL ARE A SSFETY CONCERN OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE.
MY BRAKES FELT LIKE THEY LOCKED UP AND GAS PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR SO I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT. I WASN'T SURE OF THE PROBLEM AT ALL. I LEFT IT THERE FOR APPROXIMATELY 4HOURS BEFORE COMING BACK TO IT. I WANTED TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED BEFORE CALLING A TOW TRUCK. AFTER I HIT THE IGNITION TO START MY CAR IT BEGAN TO SMOKE IN THE ENGINE. I CALLED 911 AND BY THE TIME THEY GOT THERE IT BEGAN TO SHOOT FLAMES FROM THE ENGINE. ALL THE DAMAGE WAS IN THE ENGINE AND IT WAS COMPLETELY MELTED TO NOTHING. MY INSURANCE ADJUSTER SAID SHE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING SO BAD LIKE THAT IN AN ENGINE. THE MAN AT THE COLLISION CENTER TOLD HER THAT IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS FUELED BY GASOLINE IN THE ENGINE. OBVIOUSLY THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG IN THE ENGINE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. I AM JUST GLAD I WASN'T DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN IT HAPPENED. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A VEHICLE CAN BE SITTING STATIONARY AND CATCH ON FIRE. MY CAR IS AT A TOTAL LOSS ACCORDING TO MY INSURANCE ADJUST TODAY. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH WHAT HAPPENED AND NOW I AM WITHOUT A CAR. I WANT SOME ANSWERS AS TO WHY MY ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND I FEEL THAT KIA NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT HAPPENED. THIS WAS THE FIRST CAR I HAVE EVER PURCHASED ON MY OWN AND I HAVE NOT EVEN HAD IT A YEAR AND THIS HAPPENS.
My (pearl) white 2013 KIA Optima is peeling paint from its front hood and A-pillars. This has been happening since I first bought it in 2018. My car had 55K miles on it and has never been in an accident. I have taken it to the KIA dealership of Fishers with no success. THEY LIED TO ME! Each time, I was told that my car had been previously painted by someone else, and that business did a bad paint job. I have been to KIA of Fishers 3 different times about this concern. There are MANY, MANY sites and now several class action suites pending against KIA for this problem. THE MOTOR IN MY 2013 KIA OPTIMA SPUN A ROD BEARING ON THE WAY TO A OUT OF TOWN SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT FOR MY DAUGHTER THE WEEKEND OF JUNE 28TH THRU JUNE 30 2019. MY FAMILY AND I WERE ABOUT 40 MILES AWAY FROM HOME ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER. WE STOPPED TO CHECK THE CAR TO SEE WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM AND THAT'S WHEN I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE MOTOR. AT THAT POINT I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC SHOP IN ANOTHER CITY AND STAR WHERE THE CAR STILL IS TODAY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN STARTED SPENCE THE DAY OF BREAK DOWN.(JUNE 28TH 2019)THE MECHANIC RECOMMENDED ME TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND WITH YOUR VIN LOOKUP TOOL I WAS ABLE TO FIND OUT THAT THE MOTOR DOES HAVE A RECALL ON IT FOR THIS VERY REASON. (OIL PASSAGES MAY BE BLOCK DUE TO DEBRIS FROM MANUFACTURER CLEANING DEFECT. CAUSING PREMATURE ROD BEARING WEAR FROM NOT CLEANING ENGINE PROPERLY BEFORE ENGINE ASSEMBLY).. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE IN THE MAIL ABOUT A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE NOR DO I HAVE RECALL NUMBER. THE MECHANIC IS WILLING TO FIX THE ENTIRE PROBLEM FOR US BUT I NEED TO KNOW IF I SHOULD ALLOW HIM AND WILL RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT AFTER PAID REPAIRS OR WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A KIA AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THIS CONCERNS KIA RECALL SC147. I HAVE A 2013 KIA OPTIMA EX THAT I PURCHASED USED WITH 98,000 MILES ON IT IN FEBRUARY 2019. THE CAR DROVE PERFECT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I RECENTLY HAD THE OIL CHANGED IN JUNE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER THE MOTOR STARTED KNOCKING SLIGHTLY FOR NO REASON AFTER A RECENT TRIP TO MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE. THE ENGINE STALLED IN TRAFFIC SO I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND I WAS ABLE TO CRANK IT BACK UP. THE NEXT MORNING IT WAS REALLY KNOCKING LOUDLY SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THE ENGINE WAS TRYING TO THROW A ROD.
MY FRIEND WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND WHILE IN THE TURNING LANE MY CAR SHUTS OFF. CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON AND IT WOULD NOT TAKE A JUMP. THE LOCATION WAS A BUSY STREET IN MEMPHIS.
VEHICLE STALLS OUT AND LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING. AT TIMES ENGINE LIGHT MAY FLICKER. SOMETIMES ON START UP ENGINE WILL PUTTER LIKES ITS NOT FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS. AFTER RETSTART SEVERAL TIMES THE RPM GAGE WILL NOT MOVE WHILE DRIVING. DEALER DROVE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT FUND ANY CODES APPEARING AND PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR WHILE IN SHOP. PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS OFF AND ON. ON ONE OCCASION I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED ON THE FREEWAY WHEN VEHICLE STALLED OUT AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH.
THERE IS A SMALL RUBBER-LIKE COUPLING IN THE STEERING MECHANISM. IT FAILED AND PRODUCED ABOUT A QUARTER TURN OF SLACK IN THE STEERING WHEEL. IN READING TO ONLINE POSTS IT APPEARS THAT FAILURE IS COMMON. THE PARTS TECHNICIAN AT THE KIA DEALERSHIP DIDN'T NEED TO LOOK UP THE PART NUMBER...HE JUST REACHED IN A DRAWER NEARBY AND PULLED A NEW ONE OUT. THE PROBLEM CHANGED FROM A OCCASIONAL CLICK TO VERY SLOPPY STEERING WHILE DRIVING ON A 2 MILE STRETCH OF RUTTED ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH.. I HAVE ATTACHED A PICTURE OF THE FAILED PART AND ONE OF THE NEW PART.
