INTERMITTENTLY CAR WILL SHUDDER (JERK FORWARD AND SLOW, JERK FORWARD AND SLOW) MANY TIMES WHEN ACCELERATING, EITHER FROM A STOP OR WHILE ACCELERATING FROM LOW SPEEDS (LESS THAN 45MPH) IT SEEMS POSSIBLE GEAR CHANGING IS NOT SMOOTH. AND CAN BE DANGEROUS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AS CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE AS IT SHOULD. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO KIA WHO REPORT THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH CAR WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT. PROBLEM SEEMS WORSE WHEN IT IS HOT OR COLD OUTSIDE.
WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR ABOUT 2.5 YEARS. 2 DAYS AGO I TOOK IT THROUGH A TOUCH LESS CAR WASH. TODAY I NOTICED THE ANTENNA COVER/ SHARK FIN IS MISSING. I'M NOT SURE IF IT CAME OFF DURING THE WASH OR WHEN I WAS DRIVING. IT APPEARS THE PLASTIC SCREW HOLES HAVE ALL BROKEN OFF. THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE ANTENNA IS EXPOSED. LOOKS TO BE A BIG FLAW IN MANUFACTURING.
A MONTH AFTER DOING THE RECALL FOR THE ENGINE UPDATE, THE HARNESS HAS TO COMPLETELY REPLACED. I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY WENT IT STARTED SHAKING AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 63 MPH. THE ENGINE LIGHT KEPT BLINKING.
STEERING WHEEL LOCKS WHILE DRIVING. INITIALLY HAPPENED 1 YEAR AGO WHILE DRIVING. HAD TO USE SEVERE FORCE TO TURN THE WHEEL. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP, WHO SAID THEY DID SEE SOMETHING ON DIAGNOSTICS; HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO THEY COULD NOT FIX THE CAR. THEY KEPT & DROVE THE CAR. THEY CHECKED THE COUPLING UNIT & CONTACTED KIA HOTLINE BUT STILL COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM, SO THEY RETURNED THE CAR TO ME. ON APRIL 14TH, WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE, THE WHEEL AGAIN LOCKED UP. I JIGGLED THE WHEEL AND IT RELEASED, SO I PULLED OUT & PROCEEDED TO DRIVE. I REACHED THE END OF MY STREET & WANTED TO TURN & COULD NOT MOVE THE WHEEL. LUCKILY, I WAS STILL IN MY DEVELOPMENT WITH A 25MPH ZONE, SO I TURNED OFF THE CAR. WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN, I COULD MOVE THE WHEEL, SO I RETURNED IT TO PARKING SPOT & HAD IT TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 15TH. THE DEALER HAD THE CAR FOR 8 DAYS, DROVE IT FOR 340 MILES & STILL COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, SO THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY RETURNED THE CAR TO ME & SAID IF THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, THEY CANNOT FIX IT. SO I AM NOW DRIVING A CAR IN FEAR THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN & POSSIBLY WHEN ON A HIGHWAY & AT HIGHER SPEED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 KIA OPTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT AXLE STARTED TO FAIL AND MADE ABNORMAL NOISES. PERRIS VALLEY KIA (707 E 4TH ST, PERRIS, CA 92570) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V705000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
MY KIA OPTIMA 2016 HAS AN ISSUE ON 03/31/2019: CHECK ENGINE BLINKING,LACKS POWER(NO MORE THAN 50 MPH). TOOK IT TO DEALER TOWBIN KIA, THEY FOUND A KNOCK SOUND IN ENGINE, SO THEY SAID THEY WITH NO RISK TO REPAIR AND THEY WOULD CHANGE ENGINE. AFTER 17 DAYS CAR DOWN IN DEALER, GOT A PHONE CALL TO PICK UO THE CAR BUT NO ENGINE CHANGED, INSTEAD KIA MOTORS (KMA)ORDER CHANGE WIRING HARNES.CAR WORKED GOOD FOR 10 DAYS. ON SATURDAY 04/27/2019 SAME ISSUE, DROPPED THE CAR 04/29/2019 TO DEALER, MORE TESTS AND KMA ORDERED TO HOOK A FLYING RECORD TO RECORD ERROR CODES WHEN ISSUE SHOWS UP. DEALER STAFF DROVE CAR FOR 300 MILES WITH DEVICE HOOKED UP, NO ISSUES. I WAS CALLED TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT TO DRIVE THE CAR MYSELF WITH DEVICE CONNECTED. I DROVE CAR FOR 3 WEEKS AND NO ISSUES. ON 06/04/2019 DEALER DISCONNECTS DEVICE AND 06/07/2019 DRIVING TO WORK SAME ISSUE CAMES BACK. 3RD TIME DROPPED CAR TO DEALER, ON 06/14/2019 CALLED TO PICK CAR UP, KMA ORDERED TO CHANGE SENSORS. ON 06/21/2019 SAME ISSUE CAME BACK, CAR DROPPED TO DEALER SAME DAY. ON 04/01/2019 DEALER TOLD ME THAT KMA ISSUE A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON ENGINES OF KIA OPTIMA DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS. THAT IS WHY DEALER WANTED TO CHANGE ENGINE. ON 06/24/2019 DEALER TOLD ME THAT KMA IS WORKING IN AN UPDATED REFLASH WHICH MEANS REPROGRAMING SOFTWARE TO CAR. I CAN SEE THAT KMA DOES NOT WANTS TO HONOR LIFETIME WARRANTY TO CHANGE ENGINE. I AM WATCHING AN ATTORNEY TOGET ADVICE FOR LEGAL ACTIONS.
ON MARCH 21, 2019, I BROUGHT MY CAR IN TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP BECAUSE MY OWN PERSONAL MECHANIC SAID THAT THE ENGINE WAS BURNING TOO MUCH OIL. KIA DEALERSHIP DID AN OIL TEST AND SAID THAT THEY NEED TO FIX MY ENGINE DUE TO A RECALL. IT HAS BEEN OVER 2 MONTHS AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVE MY CAR YET. MADE MULTIPLE CALLS TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP AND KIA CORPORATE AND NOTHING WAS RESOLVED.
MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED ON NOVENBER 13, 2015 THE SAME DATE FOR THE RECALL NUMBER SC139 FOR THE POWERTRAIN AXLE BUT WASN'T INCLUDED ON THE RECALL. MY AXLE IS STARTING TO MAKE NOISE LIKE IF IT IS FAIL JUST AS THE RECALL STATES I'M TOWING IT TO THE DEALER TO GET FIXED BUT WAS MY CAR SUPPOSE TO BE APART OF THAT RECALL?
AS I BEGAN CROSSING THE INTERSECTION (HIGHWAY) I ENDED UP GETTING T- BONED HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BY A PICKUP. HE WAS SPEEDING GOING ROUGHLY 60MPH IN A 45MPH ZONE MY KIA OPTIMA SUSTAINED PASSENGER SIDE/ AND FRONTAL IMPACT DAMAGE. THE IMPACT OF THE ACCIDENT SENT ME SKIDDING ACROSS THE HIGHWAY AND NONE OF MY FRONTAL AIRBAGS ACTIVATED NOR DID THE SEATBELT LOCK UP. THIS LEAD ME TO SUSTAIN HEAVY CHEST INJURIES FROM THE IMPACT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. ALSO THE CAR COULD NOT BE SHUT OFF AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE STAYED RUNNING UNTIL EMT DISCONNECTED THE POWER TO IT.
I HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED IN DEC 26, 2018 MARCH 2ND 2019 THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTION PER KIA MOTOR GROUP TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST KIA DEALER I WAS TOLD IT WAS A WIRING HARNESS 'KNOCK APRIL 19, 2019 I PICKED UP MY CAR ONLY TO GET IT A FEW MILES AND THEN RETURNED IT DUE TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AGAIN AND IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE I WAS TOLD THEY HAD ORDERED THE WRONG WIRING HARNESS AND WOULD ORDER THE CORRECT ONE. MAY 3, 2019 PICKED UP MY CAR AND IT SEEMED TO BE OK UNTIL MAY 14TH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE SO RETURNED TO BOB MOORE KIA AUG 1, 2019 PICKED UP MY CAR AND THIS TIME THEY SAID THEY CHANGED THE KNOCK SENSOR. MY CAR WAS GOOD UNTIL OCT 17, 2019 AGAIN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE, MY CARE AGAIN IS A BOB MOORE KIA. I HAVE A CASE WITH KIA MOTOR, THEY HAVE ASSIGNED ME A PERSON NAMED MELISSA AND SHE HAS ALL BUT TOLD ME TO DEAL WITH SOMEONE TO TRADE OR REPORT AS A LEMON, SHE ASKED ME WHAT I WANTED AND WHEN I SAID TO HELP ME GET THIS TRADED WITHOUT BEING UPSIDE DOWN SINCE WAS IN SHOP AND WILL NEVER GET WHAT I SHOULD FOR IT AND SHE SAID IT IS UP TO ME TO DEAL WITH A DEALER. I ALSO CALLED KIA REPAIR DEPARTMENT 10/25/19 AND WAS TOLD THEY ARE PUTTING MY CAR ON THE BACK BURNER AND IT SEEMS THAT THEY ARE NOT IN ANY HURRY TO HELP ME GET IT FIXED, THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY IS I DO HAVE A LOANER TO DRIVE.
SO I GOT THE SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE ENGINE RECALL. ON THE 24TH, ENGINE LIGHT CANE ON. WAITED FOR AN ENGINE REPLACE FOR 2 MONTHS, THEN THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE KNOCK SENSOR WIRE HARNESS. THEY REPLACED THAT AND GAVE ME BACK MY CAR. 1 WEEK LATER, SAME ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK IT IN THEY WIPED OFF THE ENGINE LIGHT, DROVE IT FOR A WEEK AND TILD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. SPEAKLESS ON THE WAY KIA HAS HANDLED THIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 KIA OPTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE MADE AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING SOUND AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURES OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. ON FOUR OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DRIVEN TO SUNSET KIA OF VENICE (179 U.S. 41 BYPASS, VENICE, FL 34285) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW WIRING HARNESS FOR THE KNOCK SENSORS WAS NEEDED ALONG WITH A NEW ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
ENGINE FAILED ON HIGHWAY AND CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING.
THE DRIVER DOOR LOCK DOES NOT WORK. IT IS THE ONLY DOOR THAT WILL NOT LOCK SOMETIMES. OTHER TIMES IT IS THE ONLY DOOR THAT WILL NOT UNLOCK. THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT ALWAYS WANT TO WORK. IT WILL SAY CRUISE BUT WILL NOT LET ME SET IT.
AROUND THE FIRST WEEK OF FEBRUARY THIS YEAR. THEY DID A RECALL ON THE ENGINE ADJUSTMENT AND THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND THE ENGINE FAILED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO KIA NAPLETON CARMEL/INDIANAPOLIS THIS WAS FEBRUARY 11TH I BELIEVE. WITHIN TEN MINUTES THE OPERATIONS PERSON CAME BACK AND SAID THEY HAD A RENTAL COMING TO PICK ME UP. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE DO TO WHATEVER THEY DID TO THE CAR IN THE RECALL. I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS FOR AWHILE, I WAS GOING TO PURCHASE THE CAR AT THE END OF THE LEASE. THE LARGE WARRANTY IS JUST ABOUT UP IN TIME, AND SHOULD ANYTHING OCCUR OUTSIDE OF THE POWER TRAIN, IT IS ON ME. THAT MEAN IF IT TAKES MONTHS OR WEEKS TO FIX THE CAR, I NEED TO LEASE A CAR AND WAIT FOR THE PART. I BECAME VERY IRRITATED ON THE 15TH DAY OF WAITING. THAT WAS NOW ALL MOST A MONTH AGO. KIA NAPLETON HAS NOW HAD THE CAR FOR A TOTAL OF FIVE WEEKS AND NOT ENGINE IN SIGHT. ENTERPRISE TOLD ME MY RENTAL WAS EXTENDED TO APRIL 14TH WHICH KIA MOTORS IF PAYING. I HAVE COMPLAINED FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO KIA LEASE, TO KIA MOTORS AND BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. A LOT OF RUN-AROUND. FINALLY, THEY HAVE ISSUED A LETTER TO PERMIT ME TO PAY $19,040 TO BUY OUT THE LEASE OR AROUND $11,000 TO FIND A NEW LEASE OR JUST $3,000 FOR MY TROUBLES AND KEEP THE CAR. MY WORRY IS IF SOMETHING ELSE GOES WRONG, WHAT IF I AM WAITING FOR FIVE WEEKS OR LONGER FOR A PART TO ARRIVE FROM ASIA, AND WHAT IF IT HAPPENS ON THE OPEN ROAD. I WANT KIA TO TAKE ME OUT OF THE LEASE WITHOUT DAMAGES TO ME. I AM NOT PLEASED TO HAVE HAD KIA DESTROY THEIR OWN ENGINE AND NOW MAKE IT MY PROBLEM. KIA HAS CONTINUALLY REFERRED ME BETWEEN DEPARTMENTS AND ONE INDIVIDUAL TOLD ME TO CONTACT MY OWN INSURANCE AGENT. I CHANGE MY OIL CHANGE IN MY KIA OPTIMA 16 OIL GET LOW BEFORE 3000MILE IT LOSE OIL BEFORE IT REACH 3000 MILES IT LOSE 2 QUART OIL
I WAS INVOLVED UN A REAR END COLLISION. I WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND WHILE STOPPED @ A TRAFFIC LIGHT. SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE REAR END OF THE CAR. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED FROM THE IMPACT. I ENDED UP HITTING MY HEAD VERY HARD ON THE STEERING WHEEL. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED @ ALL FROM THE COLLISION.
I apologize if this is not filed in the correct place. Issue: 2016 Kia Optima, peeling paint on the hood and quarter-panel. New areas are popping up and old areas are getting worse. Color Paint: Snow White Pearl
We bought this car brand new and for the past two or so year it has started to consuming oil like crazy at least 3 to 4 quarts every thousand miles and they wont do anything to see what is causing the issue its not leaking anything at all. Secondly with the head light turned to auto we will be driving down the road and all of a sudden the lights shut off and you have to flip the light to on to get them to turn back on huge safety issues there but they will not do Anything for this issue either. I should have to do what im doing to a very well taken care of vehicle and its only 6 years old i get it if it was 10 years old but to burn this much oil this not right.
THE CAR STUMBLES TO START AND WHEN I ACCELERATE IT FLUTTERS UNTIL PICKING UP SPEED. THIS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY 43.

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED AN EYE INJURY, BUT MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,400.
TAKATA RECALL - MY CAR IS STARTING TO STALL FOR SOME REASON BUT THERE ISN'T A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. MECHANICS CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING IT. THIS HAPPENS AS I DRIVE ON STREETS AND ON HIGHWAYS.

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT, A CLICKING NOISE WAS DETECTED. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ONLY ALLOW THE CONTACT TO TURN APPROXIMATELY ONE INCH TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, AND THE STEERING WHEEL EVENTUALLY SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SOUTH SHORE KIA (1128 SUNRISE HWY, COPIAGUE, NY 11726, (631) 991-3910) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,843.
THE TRANSMISSION HAS A VERY HARSH DOWNSHIFT UPON COMING TO A STOP. SOMETIMES SO BAD THAT IT WILL PUSH ALL PASSENGERS HEADS FORWARD HARSHLY.
HEADLIGHT MALFUNCTION SHUT OFF PROBLEM. AT NIGHT WHEN IN MOTION ON VARIOUS CITY STREETS THE FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS WILL, SUDDENLY AND RANDOMLY, WITH NO DRIVER INPUT WHATSOEVER, SHUT OFF COMPLETELY BOTH IN THE BACK AND IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR! THE HEADLAMPS AND REAR LAMPS WILL, AT THAT POINT STAY COMPLETELY OFF WITH ABSOLUTELY NO EXTERIOR LIGHTING FUNCTION EXCEPT THE BRAKE LIGHTS!! THE ONLY WAY TO GET REAR AND HEAD LAMPS BACK IS TO TURN THE HEADLIGHTS SWITCH OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN. THIS MALFUNCTION SO FAR HAS OCCURRED WHEN HEADLIGHT SWITCH IS IN AUTO MODE. THIS MODE OF LIGHTING DETECTS ENVIRONMENTAL LIGHTING CONDITIONS TO ACTIVATE EITHER DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS OR HEADLIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED FIVE TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN 2016. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND THE CAR HAS BEEN INSPECTED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEY HAVE REPEATEDLY INSISTED THAT THE SYSTEM IS WORKING 'AS DESIGNED' OR SHOWS NO PROBLEMS. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE THE FRONT AND REAR CAMERAS INSTALLED WITH VIDEOS TO PROVE IT. MY VEHICLE MOUNTED CAMERAS HAVE CAPTURED THIS MALFUNCTION AS HAS MY IPHONE VIDEO.I WILL NEED A WAY TO SEND YOU THE VIDEO FILES AS THEY ARE TOO LARGE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS AND COMMUNICATION WITH THE COMPANY, THE CAR WAS KEPT FOR TWO WEEKS AND WAS RETURNED WITH REPAIR TO WHAT THEY ARE CALLING THE "MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH".

THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED, WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPEED UP TO CATCH UP TO THE DESIGNATED SPEED AND COME IN TO CLOSE CONTACT WITH THE VEHICLE AHEAD. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OFF BY THEMSELVES WHILE I HAVE THE SWITCH IN THE AUTO MODE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ON BOTH HIGHWAY AND BACK ROADS. I THEN BROUGHT THE CAR TO A KIA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR BUT THEY FAILED TO FIND THE PROBLEM AND SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE SITUATION. THIS PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A FEW MONTHS AFTER THAT VISIT BUT HAS SINCE STARTED UP AGAIN. I ALSO RECENTLY STARTED EXPERIENCING A NEW PROBLEM WHERE THE PARKING LIGHTS WILL GO ON BY THEMSELVES WHILE THE CAR IS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE OFF OVERNIGHT. THE LIGHTS THEN GO OFF BY THEMSELVES SEVERAL HOURS LATER.
WHILE DRIVING WITH MY AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS ON AT NIGHT, THE LIGHTS HAVE TURNED OFF SEVERAL TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS EACH TIME THEN TURNED ON AGAIN.
IN AUGUST 2018 I NOTICED THAT THE CAMERA ON THE FRONT GRILLE OF MY 2016 KIA OPTIMA WAS PRODUCING A BLURRY IMAGE. IT DID NOT DO THIS THE NIGHT PRIOR WHEN I USED THE CAMERA TO PARK IN MY GARAGE (WHERE I DID NOT HIT OR BUMP ANYTHING, I WAS NOT EVEN NEAR THE WALL AT THE FRONT OF THE GARAGE). THE LENS HAD A CRACK. SOME CONTEXT: THIS HAPPENED BEFORE IN 2017 AND THE KIA DEALERSHIP IN MCDONOUGH, GA REPAIRED IT AS A WARRANT ITEM. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE NAMED JOSE CAMACHO SAID THEY THEY WOULD COVER IT AS A WARRANT TIME AND THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THEY JUST NEEDED TO ORDER THE PART AND WOULD CALL ME WHEN IT ARRIVED. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL, SO WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IN SEPTEMBER 2018 I WAS TOLD THAT THE CLAIM WAS DENIED AS A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR PROBLEM AND THAT THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE REPLACED IT THE FIRST TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I WANTED TO DISPUTED IT, I WOULD NEED TO CALL KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS. KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD CHECK WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER A FEW WEEKS, I CALLED THEM BACK AND THEY SAID THE DEALERSHIP WANTED MY TO COME BACK. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ASKED FOR ME TO BRING THE CAR IN SO THEY COULD TAKE PICTURES. WHILE I WAS THERE I ASK WHAT THE ODDS WHERE THAT THE CAMERA LENS WOULD CRACK TWICE WITH NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE CAMERA UNIT, THE GRILLE OR THE BUMPER, THE SERVICE MANAGER JUSTIN, TOLD ME IT WASN'T LIKELY. I NOTIFIED THEM THAT THERE WAS A 3 PAGE FORUM ON THE INTERNET WHERE OTHER KIA OPTIMA OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM, IN FACT, IF YOU DO A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH FOR KIA OPTIMA CRACKED LENS, IT IS THE FIRST SEARCH RESULT. I ASKED WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL ITEM, AND THEY SHRUGGED THERE SHOULDERS AND SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY. THEY THEN SAID THEY WOULD SUBMIT THE PICTURES AND I WOULD GET A CALL BACK FROM KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS. IT WAS DENIED, NO REASON.

UPON FILLING UP THE CAR THE GAS NOZZLE NEVER SHUTS OFF UNTIL GAS (A LOT OF GAS) IS POURING OUT OF THE TANK. EVEN TRYING TO FILL IT UP ON YOUR OWN HOLDING THE HANDLE IT POURS OUT WHEN FULL. LEAVES GAS EVERY WHERE DOWN THE CAR SPRAYING THE PERSON PUTTING THE GAS IN. RUINING THE PAINT ON THE CAR.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PARKWAY FAMILY KIA (22555 US-59, KIRKWOOD, TX 77339, (281) 312-6200) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THE BULBS BURNED OUT BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,278.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE SHUDDERS & HESITATES. I MUST ALLOW EXTRA TIME & SPACE FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC, WHEN PULLING OUT INTO AN INTERSECTION. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. KIA SAYS THE VEHICLE IS PERFORMING AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO. I THINK A RECALL SHOULD BE CONSIDERED, AS I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS, SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES REGARDING THIS PROBLEM.
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, STOPPED, IN THE WEST CONSHOHOCKEN MUNICIPAL COMMUNITY BUILDING PARKING LOT, 112 FRONT STREET, WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA. THE CAR WAS IN PARK WITH EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED. I WENT TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND WHEN I PRESSED THE IGNITION BUTTON, A LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THEN A LOUD JACK HAMMER SOUND STARTED. CAR SHOT BACKWARDS IN REVERSE AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WERE FLASHING AND A BELL RINGING. I PUMPED THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT STOP. IN HAD JUST BEEN TURNED OFF, AND WAS ALREADY IN PARK AND EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. CAR WENT ON OUT OF NOWHERE, AND WENT IN REVERSE THE LENGTH OF APPROXIMATELY 25 CARS AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED CAR.POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE. THEY REPORTED THE ACCIDENT AND IT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. MURRAY KIA WAS WHERE THE CAR WAS TOWED. THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME IT WAS AN INSURANCE PROBLEM. NOT TRUE!! MY PASSENGER AND I WERE LUCKY NOT TO HAVE ROLLED INTO THE STREET AND ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND COULD BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED, OR INJURED OTHERS. THANK GOD THE PARKED CAR WAS THERE AND ONLY THEN DID THE CAR CRASH INTO IT, AND STOP.

The body paint is cracking and falling down. Since five years ago this problem started.
My 2016 Optima has the Pearl White paint. In April 2018 I noticed that it started peeling on the hood. The dealership told me that since I was past the 36k mile warranty (I was at 39k miles then) that I would have to cover the cost out of pocket. It's sad that the vehicle was not even 2 years old and that the paint was coming off and the dealership basically told me "oh well". I am now scared to hand wash the vehicle for fear of it getting any worse. If Kia knew/knows there was an issue with the paint, why don't they just make it right? It's now all over the car that it has peeled off, not just exclusively to the hood, and theres even rust that has started to show up in aomw of those paintless spots. I have always hand washed the vehicle, waxed, never taken to a car wash either. You can see from the pictures provided that this is not caused by rocks or pressure. You see on the rear driverside how it starts to form bubbles or air pockets before it cracks and then peels off from the frame of the vehicle.

MIRACULOUSL,Y NOTHING HAPPENED TO ME OR THE TRUCK DRIVER. I STILL FEEL THAT SOMETHING WENT WRONG. INSURANCE ESTIMATOR SAID MY SIDE IS SO BAD HE CAN'T TELL IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM.
MULTIABLE OCCASIONS OF POWER STEERING LOSS AT LOW SPEEDS (15MPH OR LESS). THE POWER STEERING UNIT APPEARS TO STOP WORKING WHICH RESULTS IN THE INABILITY TO TURN THE WHEEL. I HAVE DRIVEN CARS WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND THIS CONDITION WITH THE KIA OPTIMA RESULTS IN A NEAR COMPLETE LACK OF STEERING, NOT JUST DIFFICULTY TURNING. THE CONDITION APPEARS TO BE PRECEDED WITH A STICKING OR CLICKING CONDITION THAT INCREASES IN FREQUENCY UNTIL THE SYSTEM FAILS. TURNING OFF THE CAR THEN RESTARTING IT APPEARS TO CLEAR THE ISSUE AND STEERING RETURNS TO NORMAL FOR A DECREASING PERIOD OF TIME BETWEEN EACH EPISODE. THE CAR HAS SPENT OVER TWO WEEKS AT THE LOCAL KIA SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITHOUT THEM BEING ABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE.
TAKING A LEFT FROM A STOP AT MAYBE 5 MPH , AND THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE BROKE IN HALF. I WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE ROAD AND HAVE THE CAR TOWED. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE (RECALL #SC139).
MY OPTIMA SEEMS TO HESITATE OR STUDDER WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. IT REMINDS ME OF A GEAR SLIPPING BUT MY CAR ONLY HAS 11,145 MI ON IT SO THERE'S NO WAY THAT'S POSSIBLE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING OBSERVATION FOR MONTHS NOW. I'VE ALSO HAD ONE OF MY MIRRORS NOT GO BACK TO NORMAL POSITION AFTER I MOVED THE CAR FROM R AND BEGAN TO DRIVE. I HAD TO PULL OVER, PLACE THE CAR BACK IN R, AND FLIP BACK TO D FOR THE MIRROR TO GO BACK TO PLACE. LASTLY I'VE NOTICED MY DRIVER SEAT SEAT WARMER BUTTON ISN'T LIGHTING UP LIKE IT USED TO. WHEN ON HIGH, ONLY 2 LIGHTS ARE ON. I RECORDED A VIDEO OF IT VS HOW THE PASSENGER SEAT WORKS BUT I DON'T THINK I CAN UPLOAD IT. I'VE AT LEAST TAKEN PHOTOS OF IT IN EACH LEVEL. CAR STALLED FOR NO REASON WHILE SITTING IDLE AT AN INTERSECTION. IT WAS TOWED TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP IN SAN DIEGO. THE FIRST DAY, THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED IT FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES. THE NEXT DAY, IT CLAIMED TO FIND A HOLE IN THE OIL PAN. IT REFUSED TO START THE CAR AGAIN UNTIL WE PAID $500 TO FIX IT. THERE WAS NO OIL IN ITS PARKING SPACE OR THE PLACE WHERE THAT IT STALLED. WE TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO FOUND THE HOLE. HE SAID THERE WAS MORE THAN SUFFICIENT OIL TO TURN IT OVER, AND IF THE HOLE HAS BEEN THERE LONG, ALL OF THE OIL WOULD HAVE LEAKED OUT. WE SUSPECT THE DEALER DID THIS INTENTIONALLY TO CREATE AN EXCUSE TO AVOID PAYING FOR A NEW ENGINE IF IT TURNED OUT TO HAVE METAL SHAVINGS AND CATASTROPHIC FAILURE LIKE SO MANY OTHER OPTIMAS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE MULTIPLE INJURIES SUSTAINED BETWEEN THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DEEMED THE VEHICLE DESTROYED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT NOT TO LET ANYONE VIEW THE VEHICLE BECAUSE AN INVESTIGATOR WOULD BE SENT TO PERFORM AN INSPECTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

ON WEDNESDAY MORNING DRIVING TO MY WORK THE SUNROOF EXPLODED WAS A BIG SOUND ,THIS EXPLOSION TERRIFIES ME AND THANKS GOD I DIDN'T LOST IT THE CONTROL OF THE CAR. IMMEDIATELY I DROVE TO THE RIGHT SIDE TO STOP THE CAR AND TRYING FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED.I SAW BIG HOLE AT THE SUNROOF ,I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO . I CALLED TO MY INSURANCE AND EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPEN IF I NEED TO CALL TO POLICE FOR THIS INCIDENT,THEY SAID IS NOT NECESSARY BUT WE NEED TO KIA DEALER BECAUSE COULD A FACTORY PROBLEM. KIA SAID BRING THE CAR TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION.IS ONE WEEK ALREADY AND I DON'T HAVE ANY ANSWER . I BEEN SEARCHING SAME OTHERS COMPLAINTS AND I FOUND IT KIA HAD A LOT OF SIMILAR SITUATION THIS EXPLOSION PUT ME IN A VERY RISK SITUATION COULD BE CRASHED OR HIT OTHERS CARS AND IN RISK OTHERS LIVES.
