TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 KIA SEDONA. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS HAVING HER VEHICLE SERVICED, SHE WAS INFORMED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A LOWER END NOISE AND THAT A SCREW WAS MISSING ON THE THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 91,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 KIA SEDONA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; THERE WAS A BURNING ODOR INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. UPON VEHICLE INSPECTION HE OBSERVED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER WHEELS HAD EXCESSIVE HEAT BUILD-UP. HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V232000 (WHEELS). THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 103,000.
ON MY 2003 KIA SEDONA, I HAVE REPLACED OVER 3 WHEEL BEARINGS AND HAVE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE STEERING HAS LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. *TR
2003 KIA SEDONA EX PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING REAR DOOR OUTSIDE HANDLE BROKE. CAR ONLY HAS 65,000 MILES AND IS GARAGE KEPT. I WAS UNABLE TO TAKE MY CHILD OUT OF THE CAR SEAT PROMPTLY, AND HAD TO USE THE OTHER SLIDING DOOR, WHICH WAS IN THE LINE OF TRAFFIC. I FOUND OUT EVEN WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED. ONCE THE HANDLE WAS REMOVED FROM VAN, I FOUND OUT IT WAS MADE PLASTIC, NO WONDER IT BROKE, IT NEEDS TO BE MADE OF STRONGER MATERIAL, LIKE METAL. *TR
ONE BOLT HOLDING THE REAR SEAT BACK OF MY 2003 KIA SEDONA TO THE SEAT BASE HAS SHEARED OFF AND BROKEN ON BOTH OF MY REAR SEATS. THIS ISSUE OCCURRED AT OCCURRED AT SOMETIME PAST 124,000 MILES OF VEHICLE USE. THE PROBLEM WAS NOTICED WHEN THE FOLDED SEAT BACKS WERE PUT INTO THE UPRIGHT POSITION AND THE SEAT BACK WOULD NOT LOCK INTO PLACE, BUT INSTEAD MOVED BOTH UP AND DOWN AND FORWARD AND BACKWARD ON ONE SIDE WHILE THE OTHER SIDE WAS LOCKED IN PLACE IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THE PROBLEM WAS THEN VERIFIED BY REMOVING THE PLASTIC COVER ON THE SIDE OF THE SEAT HINGE ASSEMBLY AND VISUALLY LOOKING AT THE SHEARED OFF BOLTS. BOTH REAR SEATS HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED ON THE SIDE CLOSEST TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR SEAT THE SHEARING TOOK PLACE ON THE SIDE CLOSEST TO THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE (THE LEFT SIDE AS YOU FACE THE REAR OF THIS SEAT).AND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR SEAT THE SHEARING TOOK PLACE ON THE SIDE CLOSEST TO THE EXTERIOR SIDE OF THE SEAT. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN SINCE OUR CHILDREN COULD HAVE EXPERIENCED SIGNIFICANT INJURY IF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT PRIOR TO DISCOVERY OF THE PROBLEM. THE FACT THAT NOT ONE BUT TWO BOLTS WERE SHEARED OFF ON TWO SEPARATE SEATS IS ALSO VERY TROUBLING. THE BOLTS ARE HOLDING ON BOTH REAR SEAT BACKS ARE SCHEDULED TO BE REPLACED ON JUNE 23, 2009 IF THE DEALERSHIP HAS THE PARTS. IT IS UNCLEAR WHETHER THE DEALERSHIP WILL COVER THESE REPAIRS UNDER THE PRODUCT WARRANTY DUE TO MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS GETS REGULAR USE. BOLT BROKE WHEN SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE SEATBACK WAS RELEASED AND FOLDED FORWARD FOR ACCESS TO THIRD ROW SEATING. THE SEAT HAD NOT BEEN USED FOR THE PREVIOUS 2-3 WEEKS. SEAT IS STILL IN FOLDED POSITION. I AM RETIRED AND CANNOT AFFORD REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF SEAT. *TR
HOSES, LINES CORRODED LEAKING COOLANT ALL OVER THE GARAGE AND CAR OVERHEATING ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. BREAK LINES IN REAR VERY CORRODED AND READY TO FAIL. REPLACE ASAP, MECHANIC SAYS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 KIA SEDONA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHANGED THE SEAT BELT BUCKLES ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS. THERE WAS AN INNER CONNECTION WITH THE CIRCUITS, WHICH CAUSED THE AIR BAG INDICATOR TO ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000. UPDATED 05/06/09. *LJ UPDATED 05/07/09.*JB
2003 KIA SEDONA - MILEAGE ON THIS VAN 48,177 1. STEERING STIFFNESS, MAKE IT HARD TO TURN ABOUT 90% OF THE TIME WHILE DRIVING. 2. ROUGH ENGINE - MISSED FIRE DUE TO THE COIL LEAKAGE AND ABOUT STARTED ABOUT 6-8 MONTHS AGO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 KIA SEDONA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SEAT BELT CAME APART AND WAS NOT PROPERLY SECURING HER CHILD SEAT. THE CLIP THAT ENTERS THE LATCH ON THE SEAT BELT WAS THE PART THAT FAILED. SHE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE OTHER SEAT BELTS IN HER VEHICLE WERE BEGINNING TO FAIL IN THE SAME MANNER. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,632. UPDATED 03/12/09. *LJ THE SEAT BELT CLIP THAT HELD THE SEAT BELT WHEN LATCHED, BROKE OFF. IT WAS THE PART THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE ACTUAL SEAT. THE INSIDE WIRES WERE FRAYED. UPDATED 03/16/09. *JB
1)HAPPENED TWICE: CAR STOPPED SUDDENLY AFTER A BEEPING NOISE AND ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON BRIEFLY. THERMOSTAT, THERMOSTAT GASKET HAD TO REPLACED TWICE IN 7 MONTHS (REPAIRS DONE ON 5/11/10 AND 12/13/2010). NOTE: ENGINE FLUSH 11/24/09; COOLING SYSTEM PRESSURE TESTED 2/22/10, RADIATOR FLUSHES 6/8/09 AND 7/30/10 IN ADDITION TO LOF EVERY 3,000 MILES) COOLING SYSTEM /CORROSION ISSUES/COOLING SYSTEM CORROSION CONTROL KIT INSTALLED: 12/30/05 & 4/8/08, 2) CAR CAREENING AND TIPPING WHEN STEERING HARD TO RIGHT: FRONT HUB AND WHEEL BEARING, SEAL HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL - 3 TIMES (1/2/09; 12/13/10, 8/1/2011). 3) CAR LOST POWER ON FREEWAY DUE TO BAD ALTERNATOR WHICH DISCHARGED BATTERY 6/23/06. *TR
05V232000 - THIS MORNING MY LEFT REAR WHEEL CAME OFF MY 2003 KIA SEDONA AT THE HUB -- NOT THE LUGS AT THE HUB - FORTUNATELY I WASN'T DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND DUE TO THE NOISE IT WAS MAKING REALIZED THAT I HAD A PROBLEM. PER KIA - THE ABOVE MENTIONED RECALL DID NOT PERTAIN TO MY VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 KIA SEDONA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT HER CHILD SAFETY SEAT WOULD INAPPROPRIATELY MOVE WITHIN THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIDDLE ROW SEAT WHEN IT WAS RESTRAINED BY THE SAFETY BELT. THE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RETRACT PROPERLY, WHICH LEFT THE CHILD VULNERABLE TO SERIOUS INJURY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT UNIT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
I HAVE A 2003 KIA SEDONA AND I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES. ANYWHERE FROM HAVING TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR, WHICH I WILL SAY WAS A PAIN IN THE BUTT...TO MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES. FROM READING MANY DIFFERENT SITES THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS JUST SO FRUSTRATING THAT YOU PURCHASE A VAN BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS GREAT THEN YOU GET THIS PIECE OF JUNK. THE SAD THING IS MOST PEOPLE WHO OWN THESE ARE YOUNG COUPLES WITH CHILDREN AND CAN NOT AFFORD THE REPAIRS BUT HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM AND WE ARE STUCK WITH THESES TRASH BOXES BECAUSE WE HAVE CHILDREN AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO GO OUT AND TRADE IT IN, LOSE OUR BUTTS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE MONEY WE OWE ON THEM. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO KEEP FIXING THIS HEAP OF JUNK BUT I AM STUCK WITH IT. I HOPE THAT SOMETHING GETS DONE WITH THESE...THEY ARE WORTHLESS AND MY CHILDREN ARE PAYING FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 KIA SEDONA EX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING SHE WOULD HEAR A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE WHEEL BEARINGS. AFTER THE REPAIR THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE EXPLODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY FOR INSPECTION. UPON INSPECTION A MECHANIC CONCLUDED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT. HOWEVER, HE ADDED THAT BECAUSE THE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE NOT ONLY DEFECTIVE, THEY WERE IMPROPERLY INSTALLED, THEREFORE NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 72,000.
HEAVY FUEL FUMES IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT UPHILL. FUEL FUMES CONCENTRATE TO THE POINT OF REQUIRING THE OWNER TO STOP THE CAR TO VENTILATE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN HOT CLIMATE (TEMP OVER 95DEG, SOUTHWESTERN STATES). THE FUMES SEEM TO APPROACH THE IDLE. DEALER KNEW OF THE PROBLEM; HAD CUSTOMER PAID FIX. KIA WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX. COST IS $175 TO INSTALL TUBING TO DIRECT FUMES OUT OF CARBON FILTER ASSEMBLY TO REAR OF CAR. THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY KIA. IT IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE OCCUPANTS. I HAD REPEATED INCIDENTS WITH DOCUMENTATION OF REPORTS TO TWO DEALERS. ULTIMATELY, A DEALER HAD A PARTIAL REPAIR FOR IT. DEALER NOTED THAT, SINCE ISSUE IS RESTRICTED TO SOUTHWESTERN STATES IN HOT WEATHER, KIA WOULD NOT FIX IT; LETTING CUSTOMERS PAY FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 KIA SEDONA. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE POWER WINDOWS WERE INOPERATIVE. UPON INSPECTION, A TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE CONSOLE BECAUSE IT WAS BLOWING THE FUSE IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE FUSE MELTED AND SMOKE ENGULFED THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS AND THE CONSOLE AND CONNECTOR WERE REPLACED. NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAVE CORRECTED THE FAILURE. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS REFERRED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,284 AND CURRENT MILEAGE IS 48,000. UPDATED 02/05/09 *BF UPDATED 02/06/09. *JB
MY 2003 KIA SEDONA AIR BAG LIGHT KEPT COMING ON TOLD KIA DEALER ABOUT IT THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING FOR IT. SAID WAS NOT A PROBLEM. UPON A ACCIDENT THE PASS. AIRBAG DEPLOYED WITH KNOW ONE IN THE SEAT OR ANY ITEM IN THE SEAT IT DEPLOYED SO HARD THAT IT TORE THE SUN VISOR OFF ITS ARM AND TURNED IT INTO A PROJECTILE. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2003 SEDONA USED IN 2007 WITH ABOUT 50000 MILES AND HAVE NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS EVER SINCE. 1ST IN 7/08 I WENT TO A LOCAL SHOP (NOT KIA) BECAUSE MY ENGINE SEEMED VERY LOUD. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME I NEEDED NEW MOTOR MOUNTS N THAT IT WAS KIND OF UNUSUAL FOR A CAR TO NEED THEM SO SOON. I DID CALL KIA N ASK THEM ABOUT THIS AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD TO BAD FOR YOU. SO I HAD THEM FIXED ($556.36). NOT EVEN A FEW WEEKS LATER MY AC WAS BLOWING HOT. SAME MECHANIC TOLD ME MY AC WAS OUT N THAT ONE OF THE HOSES NEEDED REPLACED. HAD TO WAIT A FEW YEARS BUT HAD IT REPLACED ($1050.72). HAD MY 1ST BRAKE JOB DONE IN 2008 EVER SINCE I'VE HAD TO HAVE MY BRAKES REPLACE 2-3 YEARLY PLUS HAD TO HAVE NEW CALIPERS. NO ONE CAN TELL ME WAY THE BREAKPADS WEAR OUT SO QUICKLY. I DONT DRIVE A UNUSUAL AMOUNT. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE 2 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE AND NOW HAVE A BROKEN EXTERIOR HANDLE. MY AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE I DRIVE WHICH SCARES ME READING OTHERS AIRBAG STORIES. WHEN I TRY TO FILL MY CAR WITH GAS THE PUMP WILL CLICK OFF AFTER A DOLLAR OR 2 LIKE ITS FULL BUT ITS NOT. AND JUST A WEEK OR SO AGO I WAS OB THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUUSE CONTROL ON ALL OF A SUDDEN I SMELT THIS OVERPOWERING SMELL OF GAS. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED BUT DIDNT SEE ANYTHING WRONG. CONTINUED DRIVING AGAIN SMELLED GAS TRIED TURNING OFF THE AC DIDNT HELP. TRIED TURNING OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL THE SMELL INSTANTLY STOPPED. I HOPE THAT SOMETHING CAN B DONE TO HELP ME AND THE OTHERS WITH KIAS. I HAVE SOME OF MY REPAIR PAPERWORK. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS FOR ME PLEASE CALL ME. *TR
DRIVING A 2003 KIA SEDONA APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN A CAR MADE A LEFT TURN RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. WE HIT THEM ALMOST HEAD ON, THEN WERE THROWN TO THE RIGHT, UP OVER A CURB AND CAME TO REST AGAINST A BRICK WALL. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING, HE SUSTAINED CUTS TO HIS FOREHEAD WHEN HE STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD, AND YES, WE WERE BOTH PROPERLY BELTED IN. HE ALSO BROKE THE STEERING WHEEL, LEAVING BRUISES ON HIS CHEST. I WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND SUSTAINED A FRACTURED RIGHT RADOIS AND A FRACTURED LEFT FEMUR, BOTH REQUIRED SURGERY TO PUT IN PLATES AND SCREWS. I SPENT A WEEK IN THE HOSPITAL;, ANOTHER WEEK IN A REHAB HOSPITAL BEFORE BEING ALLOWED TO RETURN HOME. I AM NOW IN A WHEELCHAIR FOR THE NEXT 3 MONTHS, WHILE UNDERGOING PHYSICAL THERAPY AND NEED DAILY ASSISTANCE TO GET BY.. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS ON MY 2003 KIA SEDONA DEPLOYED DURING THE ACCIDENT. THE OTHER VEHICLE, I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE BEEN A TOYOTA, HAD ALL THEIR BAGS DEPLOY. THE FIREFIGHTERS ON THE SCENE WERE ASTOUNDED THAT NONE OF THE BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CAR WAS TOTALED BY OUR INSURANCE CARRIER, STATE FARM. *TR
VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING NORMALLY UNTIL A RIGHT HAND TURN WAS ATTEMPTED AT A STREET INTERSECTION AT WHICH TIME THE STEERING WHEEL JAMMED AT APPROXIMATELY THE TWO O'CLOCK POSITION. IT TOOK ALL OF MY STRENGTH TO GET THE WHEEL TO TURN PAST THIS POSITION. ONCE ACCOMPLISHED I AGAIN HAD THE SAME DIFFICULTY RETURNING TO THE TWELVE O'CLOCK POSITION. THIS SITUATION CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO DRIFT INTO THE OPPOSITE TRAFFIC LANE. FORTUNATELY THE LANE HAD NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC'S SHOP. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE UNIVERSAL JOINT IN THE STEERING COLUMN (INTERMEDIATE SHAFT). THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD SEEN SEVERAL CASES RECENTLY INVOLVING THE SAME VEHICLE AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD USED UP THE FOUR IN STOCK FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON 02 AND 03 KIA SEDONA VEHICLES. THE PART IS CURRENTLY ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER BECAUSE OF DEMAND. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP WAITING FOR PART AVAILABILITY. *TR
AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND IN MY 2003 KIA SEDONA VAN ACCIDENT, I WAS ALMOST KILLED. I AM STILL UNDER THE CARE OF SEVERAL DOCTORS BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS WHICH DEVELOPED FROM THE ACCIDENT. THIS HAS BECOME A HUGE FINANCIAL BURDEN DUE TO NUMEROUS MEDICAL BILLS. I CAN OBTAIN A COPY OF THE ACCIDENT REPORT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT. I THINK KIA SHOULD HAVE TO ASSUME THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUGE AMOUNTS OF MEDICAL BILLS SINCE SAFETY EQUIPMENT APPARENTLY DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. I WOULD APPRECIATE HEARING FROM YOU. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 KIA SEDONA EX. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTS TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, IT WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY RETURN TO THE PROPER POSITION. THE FAILURE OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STEERING COUPLER ASSEMBLY WAS BEGINNING TO FREEZE. THE FAILURE IS CAUSED BY LACK OF LUBRICATION THAT CAUSES THE COUPLER ASSEMBLY TO RUST. AS A RESULT, THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKS INTO ONE POSITION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 103,000. UPDATED 04/03/08: KIA DID NOT MAKE THE STEERING COUPLER ASSEMBLY WITH GREASE FITTINGS AND THE STEERING IS STARTING TO FREEZE UP INTERMITTENTLY MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GUESS WHEN IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL WHILE DRIVING. IT'S VERY UNNERVING.
I PURCHASED MY 2003 KIA SEDONA IN NOVEMBER 2005. SO FAR THE FOLLOWING HAVE BEEN REPAIRED OR REPLACED: FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY LEFT SIDE ONCE, RIGHT SIDE 2X'S, THE ALTERNATOR, THE WIPER MOTOR, TWO RECALLS, THE BATTERY, NOW AT 65,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE TIMING BELT HAS BEEN REPLACED. IT HAD ABOUT 45,000 MILES ON IT WHEN WE GOT IT- AND NOW IT HAS ABOUT 74,000. 2 MONTHS INTO HAVING IT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHENEVER THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED BELOW 20 DEGREES(F). THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD USUALLY GO OFF BY THE NEXT DAY IF IT WAS WARMER OUT OR WOULD STAY ON FOR UP TO 3 DAYS IF IT WAS VERY COLD) IT STARTED TO BUCK A LOT (ABOUT 6 MONTHS INTO HAVING IT) AND WE BROUGHT IT TO THE SHOP AND HAD THE SPARK PLUGS, WIRES, BOOTS, AND COILS REPLACED. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER THOSE WERE REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WENT AND WE NEEDED TO REPLACE THAT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL COMES ON WHEN THE TEMPERATURES DROP-BUT THEY CANT FIGURE OUT WHY. (THIS USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN IT'S COLD OUT) WE WERE STUPID AND BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (WHICH DOESN'T COVER ANYTHING THAT HAS GONE WRONG!- ALTHOUGH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS COVERED BY THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY) WE OWE TOO MUCH ON IT TO SELL IT OR TRADE IT IN SO NOW WE'RE STUCK WITH AN UNRELIABLE VEHICLE THAT I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY DAUGHTER AROUND IN- THERE'S NO TELLING WHERE THE CAR MIGHT STALL NEXT! I HAVE A KIA SEDONA VAN WITH APPROXIMATELY 65,000 MILES. IT HAS HAD NUMEROUS HEADLIGHTS BULBS THAT HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED. IN AN ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THIS, THE DEALERSHIP HAS EVEN REPLACED THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT. THE LAST TIME A BULB BURNED OUT THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED BOTH BULBS EVEN THOUGH ONLY ONE BULB BURNED OUT. THE RATIONAL FOR REPLACING BOTH BULBS WAS THAT ALL OF THE CURRENT WAS DIVERTED TO THE HEADLIGHT THAT WASN'T BURNED OUT, HENCE IT SHORTENED THE LIFE OF THE BULB THAT WAS WORKING. HOWEVER, SIX WEEKS LATER A NEW BULB WAS ALREADY BURNED OUT. AS I UNDERSTAND FROM TALKING WITH REPRESENTATIVES AT MY DEALERSHIP, THIS IS A COMMON OCCURANCE WITH THE KIA VAN. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM TWICE WHEN TRAVELLING OUT OF STATE -- ONCE WHEN IT WAS FOGGY AND BOTH TIMES AT NIGHT. THE HYDRAULICS THAT KEEP THE HOOD AND THE BACK OF THE VAN OPEN ARE NOT WORKING. SO YOU ARE STUCK HOLDING THEM OPEN (AND THEY ARE VERY HEAVY) TO PUT IN GROCERIES, ETC. MY DAUGHTER HAS HURT HER HEAD A COUPLE OF TIMES TRYING TO HELP ME KEEP IT OPEN TO GET THE GROCERIES OUT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO BE DOING THIS. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THE INSIDE SOMETIMES WORKS, SOMETIMES NO. THE BACK AIR ADAPTER FOR THE A/C KEEPS FALLING OUT OF THE CEILING. THE A/C ITSELF SOMETIMES WORKS AND SOMETIMES DOESN'T. THE SEATS IN THE BACK KEEP COMING UNDONE. THE VAN EATS THE TREAD OF THE TIRES EVEN WITH CONSTANT REPLACEMENT AND ROTATIONS AND BALANCES. THE SLIDING DOORS STICK ALL THE TIME AND MY DAUGHTERS HAVE ALL HURT THEM SELVES TRYING TO GET IN OR OUT FROM THE SLIDING DOORS. I AM AFRAID OF CUTTING OFF FINGERS HAVING TO FORCE IT OPEN OR CLOSED. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE HAS A LATCH THAT BROKE SO THE HANDLE IS HALF ON HALF OFF. NOW WHEN I FILL UP ON GAS MY VAN WILL JERK WHEN I DRIVE IT OUT OF THE GAS STATION FOR A GOOD 20 MINS. I HAD GONE TO LUNCH AND STOPPED BY THE GROCERY STORE FIRST AND THEN WENT BY THE GAS STATION FOR A MOMENT. WHEN I CAME OUT, I GOT INTO MY VAN AND IT WOULD NOT CRANK. NO WARNING, NO PRIOR TROUBLE, NOISES, SLOW CRANK, NOTHING. IT WOULD NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO CRANK. I HAD TO WALK BACK TO WORK. I LOOSE SLEEP OVER THE FACT THAT MY WIFE AND CHILDREN ARE IN THIS VEHICLE EVERY DAY TO GET TO AND FROM SCHOOL AND OTHER DAILY ACTIVITIES AND ERRANDS. THE DEALER MY DAD TAKES IT TO SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN GETTING TO THE PROBLEMS THIS VEHICLE HAS, BUT WAITING UNTIL SOME OTHER PROBLEM OCCURS LIKE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, THEN MAYBE THEY'LL SPEND SOME TIME ON IT. BUT THE VEHICLE COMES OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP FINE BUT WITHIN A DAY OR TWO IT'S THE SAME OLD PROBLEMS. THE JUNCTION BLOCK (FUSE BOX) LOCATED BEHIND THE COVER NEAR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL PARTIALLY BURNED AND MELTED AT TWO PIN CONNECTORS. THE ADJACENT WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR ALSO PARTIALLY BURNED AND MELTED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE DASH INDICATOR FOR THE DEFROSTER ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH THE DEFROSTER WAS NOT TURNED ON. WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF, THE DASH INDICATOR FOR THE DEFROSTER REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE BATTERY WAS DEAD THE NEXT DAY. AFTER JUMP STARTING THE VAN, IT WAS DRIVEN TO THE LOCAL KIA DEALER WHERE THE MACHANIC IDENTIFIED THE JUNCTION BLOCK DAMAGE. KIA HAS PROPOSED TO REPLACE THE JUNCTION BLOCK AND ENTIRE DASH WIRING HARNESS FOR $1,934.19. THE COST OF THE JUNCTION BLOCK IS $19.95, BUT THE COST OF THE WIRING HARNESS IS $1,067.65. THE BALANCE OF THE PROPOSED COST IS LABOR AND TAXES. KIA DOES NOT PROVIDE THE HARNESS CONNECTOR AS A SEPARATE PART. I CALLED THE KIA HELP LINE AND PROVIDED A VERBAL REPORT TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT, AND WAS TOLD THAT KIA CAN DO NOTHING ELSE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I LOCATED 12 RELEVANT ODI COMPLAINTS FOR 2003 SEDONAS AND 2 RELEVANT ODI COMPLAINTS FOR 2003 SEDONA EX MODELS, ALL RESULTING IN DASH FIRES. I DID NOT SEARCH OTHER MODEL YEARS. IT MAY HAVE BEEN MY GOOD FORTUNE NOT TO EXPERIENCE A VEHICLE FIRE, AS WELL AS COMPELLING EVIDENCE RELATED TO THE CAUSE OF THESE OTHER REPORTED FIRES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE CENTER WHERE THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE AND BOTH REAR TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TIRE TREAD EXHIBITED PREMATURE WEAR. THE SIMILAR FAILURE RECURRED ONE YEAR AND NINE MONTHS AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE THREE TIRES. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE TIRE CENTER FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE INSPECTED AND TO DETERMINE WHICH TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN.

THIS IS NOT THE KNOWN CABLE FREEZING PROBLEM, SINCE WE LIVE IN FLORIDA. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM IF IN TRAFFIC AND CAN'T REACT FAST ENOUGH TO HIT THE BRAKES BEFORE IMPACTING A CAR IN FRONT. 2003 KIA SEDONA WITH PROBLEMS WITH LOSING POWER, CHOKING. **NAR**CC THE BUTTERFLY PLATES WERE FOUND LOOSE IN THE PLENUM AND THE SCREWS WERE MISSING. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THEY WERE NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY FROM THE FACTORY. WHEN THE BUTTERFLY'S FAILED THE CONSUMER WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 70 MPH THE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE A/C FAILED IN THE MIDDLE F THE SUMMER.
