I WAS DRIVING ON ROUTE 55 WITH MY 2YR OLD DAUGHTER AND I WAS GOING 70MPH WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE CAUSING MY CAR TO FISHTAIL IN BETWEEN BOTH LANES ON THE HIGHWAY UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL AGAIN AND GOT MY CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. THE DEFECTIVE TIRE IS A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT 225/70R15
TIRES ARE STILL OVER 1/2 TREAD BUT BIG BULGES IN TREAD AREA
I GOT THESE TIRES FROM WAL MART ON 07/03/2012 IN JULY I WENT TO TAKE WIFE TO WORK FOUND MY TIRE FLAT CHANGED OUT FOUND SIDE WALL CAME APART. THIS WAS A 60000 MILE TIRE WHY WOULD THIS HAPPENED I HAVE BEEN MECHANIC FROM OVER TEN YRS. NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH TIRES. COULD YOU TELL ME WHY?
DEAR OFFICER, I HAVE PURCHASED 2 SETS OF FOUR TIRES (ASSURANCE TRIPLETRED, 215/70R15) IN SUMMER 2010 AND 2011 (HYUNDAI XG AND KIA SEDONA). I FOUND THAT ONLY ONE OF TIRES SHOWS A KIND OF CRACKS A LOT ON THE SIDE (I HAVE THE PICTURE) RELATIVELY. I CHECKED THE DATE OF MANUFACTURING ON THE TIRE AND FOUND 'BLANK'. THREE OF FOUR SHOW THE YEAR AND WEEK (0923...). I ALSO FOUND THAT ONE OF FOUR TIRES IN MY ANOTHER CAR HAS NO DATE EITHER. IT'S ODD AND SUSPICIOUS TO ME. I HAVE GOT THEM ALL FROM A GOODYEAR STORE. I HAVE SOME PICTURES TO SHOW THE EVIDENCE. I AM SO SCARED WHEN I REALIZED THAT I HAVE DRIVEN MY CARS ON ILLEGALLY UPDATED OR SOLD TIRES. [XXX] P.S. IN JUNE AND JULY OF 2011 I PURCHASED 4 YOKOHAMA 215/70R15 98S AVID TOURING S TIRES FOR MY 2005 KIA SEDONA VAN. WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 3 TIRES DUE TO SEPARATION. DRIVING IS BOTH HIGHWAY AND CITY WITH AT LEAST 80 MILES HIGHWAY 5 DAYS EVER OTHER WEEK. SINCE PURCHASING THE TIRES I HAVE DRIVEN 46,000 MILES. THE FIRST SEPARATION OCCURRED AUGUST 1, 2012 WITH MILLAGE AT 157,000. THE SECOND ON NOVEMBER 21, 2012 AT 164,000 MILES. THE THIRD SEPARATION OCCURRED FEBRUARY 1, 2013 AT 176,000 MILES. THE SYMPTONS INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES ARE; A. WOBBLING OF THE VEHICLE AT VERY LOW SPEED, B. PULLING TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT, C. INTENSE VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEED (>55). WE ARE LUCKY THERE HAVE BEEN NO ACCIDENTS RELATING TO THESE DEFECTIVE TIRES. THE FIRST TWO TIRES WERE REPLACED UNDER THE TIRE DEALERS WARRANTY PROGRAM. I LOST CONFIDENCE IN THE MANUFACTURER AND MODEL AFTER THE THIRD SEPARATION AND WITH CREDIT FROM YOKOHAMA PURCHASED FOUR NEW TIRES; DIFFERENT MAKE AND MODEL. ALL THE TIRES WERE RETAINED BY THE DEALER. THE LAST TIRE HAD A MANFACTURE DATE OF 81S0610. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 KIA SEDONA. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC FOR REPAIR. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V232000 (WHEELS); HOWEVER, HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. SHE FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE VERY UNSAFE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH HER PARTICULAR VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,800.
2ND COMPLAINT FOR THE 2005 KIA SEDONA - REAR TIRE WEAR. EVERY SET OF TIRES I PUT ON THE VEHICLE NEED TO BE REPLACED IN THE BACK AFTER 6 MONTHS DUE TO EXTREME INSIDE WEAR. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A PRIVATE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THERE WAS NO WAY TO ADJUST AND SUGGESTED TAKING TO A DEALER. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND GOT THE SAME RESPONSE - PLUS NO AFTERMARKET PART TO PUT ON IT EITHER. OF COURSE IT TOOK ME 3 MONTHS TO GET A RESPONSE OUT OF THE DEALER ON THE AFTERMARKET QUESTION. NOW, EVERY 10,000-15,000 MILES I REPLACE THE FRONT TIRES WITH NEW, AND PUT THE OLD ONES ON THE BACK. I EVEN TOOK THE TIRES TO THE DEALER FOR SHOW AND TELL....THEY HAD NO ANSWER FOR THE PROBLEM. *TR
IN REFERENCE TO CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V232000. MY KIA SEDONA HAS THE DEFECTIVE WHEEL BEARINGS AS INDICATED BY THE REPORT, BUT SOMEHOW HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL. MY VEHICLE IS BEING SERVICED BY KIEFER KIA IN EUGENE, OREGON. THE DEALERSHIP IS MAKING, AND PAYING FOR, NECESSARY REPAIRS. TO MY UNDERSTANDING, HAD WE NOT FOUND THIS ISSUE BEFORE OUR WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED WE WOULD HAVE BEEN LIABLE FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 KIA SEDONA. THE VEHICLE HAS KUMHO, SIZE P195/55R15 TIRES. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS FLAT. THE TIRE WAS REMOVED TO REVEAL THAT THE INSIDE SIDE WALL WAS CRACKED. NO NAILS OR HOLES WERE FOUND IN THE TIRE. THE INNER RING OF THE TIRE APPEARED AS IF IT WOULD POP. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A FULL SIZE TIRE AND DROVE TO THE DEALER WITH THE TIRE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIRE HAD BEEN DRIVEN ON WHILE IT WAS UNDERINFLATED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DISAGREED. THE TIRE HAS YET TO BE REPLACED. THE WEATHER WAS COOL AND DRY AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. NO PICTURES WERE TAKEN AND NO INVOICE WAS ISSUED. THE DOT NUMBER AND OTHER TIRE INFORMATION WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 20,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 KIA SEDONA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE WHEEL HUB SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE CAUSED HER TO CRASH INTO A TREE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SHOP AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. SHE THEN SEARCHED ONLINE AND DISCOVERED RECALL NUMBER 05V232000 (WHEELS). THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE IT APPLIED TO ALLOY WHEELS, NOT ALUMINUM. SHE BELIEVES THAT HER VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 78,041.
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN PULLING TO THE RIGHT AND TO THE LEFT EVER SINCE I PURCHASED IT. IT ALSO ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. IT SEEMS AS IF THE GAS PEDAL STICKS FROM TIME TO TIME. WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH THE BBB AND MANUFACTURER.THERE IS NO SPECIFIC INCIDENT DATE.
I BOUGHT MY 2005 KIA SEDONA IN SEPTEMBER 2005. IN THE MONTH OF APRIL I NOTICED MY HUB CAPS WERE PEELING. WHEN I CONTACTED MY KIA DEALER HE INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NOT A DEFECT BUT INSTEAD THEY WHEELS MUST HAVE BEEN CLEANED WITH AN ACID BASE CLEANER. I TOLD HIM I HAD ALREADY CONTACTED MY CAR DETAILER AND THEY SAID THEY DO NOT USE ANY CLEANER LIKE THAT BECAUSE THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THE FACT THIS CAN HAPPEN. WHEN I RELAYED THIS TO THE SERVICE MANGER AT THE DEALERSHIP HE SAID THEY MUST BE WRONG. BUT IN ANY CASE HE WOULD REPLACE ONLY THE ONES THAT WERE PEELING AND WOULD ONLY DO IT THIS ONE TIME. FROM NOW ON I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE THEM. HE ALSO SAID HE HAD OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND HE ONLY REPLACED THEIRS ONCE AND SOME HAVE PAID TO HAVE THEM REPLACED UP TO FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR. BUT AGAIN HE SAID IT'S NOT KIA'S PROBLEM. I THINK HE NEEDS TO RETHINK THIS AND KIA DOES TO. THEY USE CHEAP PLASTIC HUB CAPS AND NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. *NM
DT: THE CONSUMER MADE A COMPLAINT ON JUNE 30TH, 2005 FOR HIS KIA. HE RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM, KIA HAS HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER WEEKS. BEFORE THE CONSUMER TOOK IT THERE THEY ASSURED HIM THEY HAD THE PART IN STOCK. HE CONTACTED THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER, AND THE MANUFACTURER. AMY REPRESENTING THE MANUFACTURER SAID THEY WERE SETTING THE PART ASIDE WITH HIS NAME ON IT AND THAT WAS 10 DAYS AGO. THE DEALER STILL DOES NOT HAVE THE PART. THE RECALL IS FOR THE BEARING ASSEMBLY ON BOTH REAR WHEELS. *JB
DT: ON JUNE 13, 2005 CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL 05V232000, AND THE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. AT THAT POINT HE WAS WAITING ON THE PARTS TO COME IN. ON JUNE 20,2005 AMY AT KIA IN CARTERSVILLE CALLED THE CONSUMER AND INFORMED HIM THAT THE PARTS WERE IN AND THEY WERE RESERVED IN HIS NAME. ON JUNE 29,2005 HE CALLED TO ARRANGE FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE TAKEN IN AND HAVE THE RECALL WORK DONE. WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO PARTS.
