DRIVERS ROCKER COVER LIGHT MALFUNCTIONED AND SHORTED OUT STARTING A FIRE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR WE WERE JUST PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT OUR HOME. THEN THE CAR FILLED WITH SMOKE.
MY ENGINE WAS REPLACE ON ORIGINAL RECALL. I KEEP BRINGING IT BACK FOR OVERHEATING AND RUNNING HOT AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME NOTHING IS WRONG. IS THERE A DEFECT IN THE REPLACEMENT ENGINE AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR CAR IT DOES NOT GET HOT UNTIL YOU DRIVE IT FOR A WHILE OR LONG TRIP
WHILE DRIVING DOWN AN EXPRESSWAY AT APPROX. 45MPH, MY SUNROOF EXPLODED. GLASS WAS FORCED DOWN AND THE COVER SCREEN SAVED ME FROM THE DEBRIS COMING INTO THE CAR. THERE WAS NO OTHER TRAFFIC AROUND ME AND NO FOREIGN MATTER FOUND IN THE DEBRIS. THIS EVENT WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING , AND I HAD MY MOTHER AND MY DAUGHTER IN THE VEHICLE WHEN IT HAPPENED. I MADE A POLICE REPORT OF THE EVENT AND I HAVE PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE.

DEPRESSED PUSH TO START BUTTON, THE CAR MADE A HIGH-PITCHED SQUEELING AND GRINDING SOUND FROM UNDER THE HOOD, BUT WAS NOT RUNNING. COULD NOT GET THE SOUND TO STOP. EVENTUALLY STOPPED AFTER 3-5 MINUTES. RESTARTED THE CAR THIS TIME IT STARTED, DROVE THE CAR WITH NO ISSUES FOR 3 DAYS. DEPRESSED PUSH TO START BUTTON LOUD SOUND CAME FROM UNDER ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE THE STARTER WAS ENGAGED BUT NOT TURNING OVER THE MOTOR. COULD NOT GET IT TO STOP, STARTED SMELLING A STRONG ELECTRICAL SMELL, AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES IT STOPPED SOUNDING AS IF THE STARTER BURNT UP. HAD CAR TOWED TO KIA DEALERSHIP IN MUNCIE, IN. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A BAD STARTER DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF STARTER THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP, HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, HE INSTALLED NEW STARTER, ONCE NEW STARTER WAS INSTALLED ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER, MECHANIC ADVISED ENGINE WAS LOCKED UP.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASH BOARD CAME ON AND THE CAR SHUT OFF. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF ROAD AND INTO A DRIVEWAY. HAD VEHICLE TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME MY ENGINE LOCKED.
TAKATA RECALL MY TRANSMISSION IS MAKING A NOISE WHEN I BRINGING IT TO A STOP AND MY TIRES START GOING TO THE LEFT ALSO IT HAS NO TRANSMISSION OR MOTOR LIGHT FLASHING BUT I CAN FEEL THATS THERES SOMETHING WRONG ALSO WHEN I PARK IT MOVES A LITTLE I HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS ON SO THAT IT WONT BOUNCE INTO GEAR AND MOVE AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE ENGINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD BANG AND OBSERVED A HUGE CLOUD OF BLACK SMOKE EMERGING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE AND OTHER INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WHERE IT CAUGHT FIRE FROM UNDERNEATH NEAR THE TRANSMISSION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. KIA OF LANCASTER (1608, 5250 MAIN ST, EAST PETERSBURG, PA 17520) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FIRE AND STATED THAT THE EXHAUST HANGER HAD MELTED. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT ROD #4 BLEW INTO THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
When I acquired the 2012 KIA Sorento, in 2018, I noticed that it was burning oil; it also has a mild-to-moderate clicking sound. I received a notification from KIA, instructing me to take the unit to the nearest Dealer for repair. Said Dealer flatly refused to repair it, claiming that it had been imported from the Continental US to PR, a US Territory. I appealed their decision to no avail. My wife is the main driver of the Sorento, and I am extremely concerned for her safety. Can a Dealer "refuse" to obey/fulfill an Official Recall from the Manufacturer? Finally, just to give you an idea of the oil-consumption problem, I have to add a quart of synthetic oil every 200 to 300 miles. Now consider the price of oil nowadays. I would truly & humbly plead for your help on this matter. Thank you.

THIS IS STILL HAPPENING. 3. ABOUT A MONTH AGOWHILE SITTING IDLE IN TRAFFIC THE CAR STALLED, TURNED THE IGNITION OFF THEN BACK ON AND IT STARTED BACK UP 4. YESTERDAY I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE IT DOES NOT ENGAGE RIGHT AWAY AND WHEN IT DOES IT JERKS. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. I HAVE HAD MY CAR TO THE DEALER REGARDING THE ISSUES AND EVERY TIME THEY SAY THEY CAN'T DIAGNOSE IT BECAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT AND THAT THEY TEST DROVE IT AND NOTHING WAS WRONG. THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS TO MYSELF AND OTHERS TO DRIVE AND I'M ABOUT TO CONTACT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU IF THIS DOES NOT GET RESOLVED. THERE IS A RECALL OUT ON THE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE BUT NOT ON MY "SPECIFIC" MOTOR. WELL IN TELLING YOU THERE'S A PROBLEM AND I'VE READ ABOUT OTHER KIA'S HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
WHEN YOU ARE SLOWING DOWN FROM ANY SPEED GREATER THAN 20 MPH TO MAKE A STOP, WHILE PRESSING THE BREAK THERE IS A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM GEAR SHIFTER AREA. EVERY TIME WHEN UNDER APPRO 10 MPH THIS CLICKING HAPPENS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT.

WHILE AT THE DEALER, THE ENGINE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE FAILURES OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. HI - TODAY, ON MY WAY TO THE PARK - A 10 MIN DRIVE, THE AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON. I HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND MY CAR HAS ALMOST 130,000 MILES. READYING ONLINE - I AM DREADING TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP. I DID FIND A POST THAT IN FEBRUARY OF 2016 - KIA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT THERE IS NO NUMBER ATTACHED, THEREFORE, I AM GUESSING I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TEAM KIA OF EL CAJON (LOCATED AT 541 N JOHNSON AVE, EL CAJON, CA 92020, (619) 444-7200) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING A NEW ENGINE AND LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE HEADLIGHT FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I HAD BEEN HEARING A NOISE AND MECHANIC ASKED ME TO BRING INTO HIS SHOP TO TAKE A LOOK. ON MY WAY TO THE SHOP MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED. MECHANIC HAD IT TOWED TO HIS SHOP, THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING AND ALL LOOKED GOOD. WHEN THEY TRIED STARTING THE ENGINE IT WAS FROZEN. I HAD NO ENGINE LIGHT WARNING AT ALL.
THERE IS A RECALL ON 2012 KIA SORENTO ENGINE BUT MY VIN WILL NOT SHOW UP THAT THERE IS A RECALL. MY ENGINE SEIZED WITH ONLY 69000+MILES ON IT AND JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER RECALLED VEHICLES. NOW I AM EITHER FORCED TO PAY OVER 5 GRAND FOR AN ENGINE FOR A CAR THAT I HAVE ONLY HAD FOR 2 YEARS OR BUY A NEW CAR. I AM ALSO STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON THIS CAR.

PRICE TO FIX $2000.00 THAT IS RIDICULOUS! I HAVE SEEN TONS OF REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE ON KIA SORENTOS. THEY ADVERTISE FOR THEIR SAFETY AND THAT IS WHY I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY VEHICLE THAT HAD ISSUES WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEMS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED ON THESE VEHICLES. MY MAIN REAR SEALS OF MY ENGINE BEGAN TO LEAK OIL.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNDER NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS THE TACHOMETER WILL DROP TO ZERO AND THE CAR WILL START TO SPUTTER AND STALL. THIS OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY SOMETIMES WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY SOMETIMES AT STOP LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 142K MILES AND HAS HAD THE CAM SENSORS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP BUT IS STILL HAVING ISSUES THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO TRACK DOWN.

WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. IT IS PART OF THE RECALL FOR THE ENGINE. THEY "TESTED" IT AND SAID THE ENGINE PASSED BUT TOOK A VIDEO OF THE SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST AND SENT IT TO THEIR TECHS TO SEE HOW TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. NOW WAITING ON AN ANSWER. NO TRANSPORTATION HAS BEEN PROVIDED. PAID OUT ALMOST $300 IN THE LAST WEEK FOR A RENTAL. THE DEALERSHIP BASICALLY TOLD US WE WERE ON OUR OWN TRANSPORTATION WISE.

I AM NOT A VERY STRONG PERSON SO THIS SURPRISED ME GREATLY. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO GOOGLE I SEE THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHICH IS INSANE AND IF I HAVE TO GO REPLACING ALL MY DOOR HANDLES AS THEY BREAK I WILL NOT BE BUYING A KIA AGAIN. 2012 KIA SORENTO WAS SERVICED AT DEALERSHIP ON REGULAR BASIS. OCTOBER 7, 2017 CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNT TO THE GROUND. CALLED KIA AND THEY WOULD DO NOTHING! STATED THEY DID NOT DEAL WITH CONSUMERS AND TO DEAL WITH MY INSURANCE. INSURANCE ONLY PAID BOOK VALUE AND WAS UNABLE TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE WITH THAT AMOUNT! I DID EVERYTHING BY THE BOOK AND KEPT MY KIA IN EXCELLENT SHAPE AND THEY DID NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT! I HAD A APPOINTMENT TO SERVICE ON MONDAY AND IT BURNT ON SATURDAY! I FOUND OUT THAT THEY HAD ISSUED A RECALL AND I AM SURE THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF IT AT SERVICE ( I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE). MY NIECE WAS DRIVING FROM KENTUCKY TO MY HOME IN VIRGINIA (HER VEHICLE WAS BROKE DOWN AND THE DRIVE WAS A HOUR AWAY). THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A NOISE AT WHICH TIME SHE PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND THEN THE VEHICLE DIED AND STARTED SMOKING. IT WAS NIGHT TIME AND SHE CALLED ME AND I STARTED ON MY WAY TO MEET HER. SHE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WENT TO RAISE THE HOOD BUT TWO GUYS HAD STOPPED TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP AND ONE SEEN THE RED OF THE FIRE IN THE CRACK OF THE HOOD AND ADVISED HER TO GET AWAY. WITHIN SECONDS FLAMES ENGULFED THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND BURNT COMPLETELY BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED. THE FIRE CHIEF TOLD ME WHEN I ARRIVED THAT IT WAS DEFINITELY ELECTRICAL. WE WERE BLESSED THAT MY NIECES 6 MONTH OLD WAS WITH ME AND NOT IN THE VEHICLE WITH HER BECAUSE SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET HER OUT! VERY DISAPPOINTED IN KIA AND I WAS A HUGE FAN BUT NOT ANYMORE AFTER DEALING WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE! I DO NOT FEEL IT IS FAIR THEY ARE NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PRODUCT! THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME AT ALL!
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS KEEP FAILING ON MY CAR. NUMEROUS BULBS, LENS, ETC... AND THEY BLOW WITHIN 2 DAYS. SO, WE DRIVE AROUND WITH ONE BULB. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS WIDESPREAD ON THESE MODELS, BUT THEY WILL NOT ADMIT. WE DO NOT HAVE $600 TO $1000 TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE ENTIRE WIRING AND ASSEMBLY. FOR WHAT I PAID, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FOR AN ENGINEERING/DESIGN FLAW. THE LACK OF CONCERN KIA HAS SHOWN THIS WIDESPREAD ISSUE SHOWS A DISREGARD FOR CONSUMER SAFETY. THIS WILL BE MY LAST KIA UNLESS SOMETHING IS DONE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH REAR PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS, WHICH FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO A HOSPITAL FOR A FRACTURED COLLAR BONE, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. JENKINS KIA OF GAINESVILLE (3345 N MAIN ST, GAINESVILLE, FL 32609, (855) 764-9404) WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO READ THE DATA FROM THE BLACK BOX IN THE VEHICLE. MY PASSENGERS HAVE NOTICED, AND ONCOMING TRAFFIC OFTEN FLASHES THEIR LIGHTS AT ME. I NEED IT FIXED IMMEDIATELY, BC I DRIVE UBER/LYFT FOR EMPLOYMENT. I WAS DRIVING IN A DIMLY LIT AREA, WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THAT I COULDN'T SEE WELL IN FRONT OF ME. LATER, THAT HOUR, AN UBER CUSTOMER, INFORMED ME MY LIGHTS WERE OUT. AFTER THE BULBS WERE REPLACED, I WAS DRIVING WHEN I STILL NOTICED THE ROAD WAS DARK. THE NEXT DAY FRIENDS WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME & SPONTANEOUSLY INQUIRED ABOUT WHY MY HEADLIGHTS WEREN'T WORKING. MY RESEARCH SHOWS A RECALL RE HEADLIGHT CONNECTORS WHICH CORRODED, BUT IT DOES NOT INCLUDE MY CAR'S YEAR YET.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE RECEIVED A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE ON THE DAY OF THE RECALL INSPECTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OIL PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP WHERE THE OIL LEVEL WAS CHECKED AND RECORDED LOW AS WELL, BUT NO LEAKS WERE FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WERE THEY ALSO FOUND THE OIL LEVEL TO BE LOW WITH NO OIL LEAKS. THE VEHICLE WAS SET UP FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT 2,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE SHOWED EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY INSPECTED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND THE ENGINE WAS NOT MAKING NOISE, THE ENGINE COULD NOT BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
PURCHASED CAR IN APRIL 2016 USED. A WALMART BATTERY WAS IN CAR. I MENTIONED TO SALES PERSON THAT IT HAD A WALMART BATTERY, HE SAYS "O YEAH, THEY HAVE GOOD BATTERIES". SO, CAR IS AT LEAST ON SECOND BATTERY. THAT BATTERY DIED IN APRIL 2017. NEW BATTERY FROM O'RIELLY'S. THAT BATTERY IS NOW LOSING IT'S CHARGE WITHIN 5 DAYS OF NOT DRIVING. NOT NORMAL. ALTERNATOR IS THROWING 14.1 TO BATTERY. NOTHING IN CAR IS EVER LEFT ON.
AFTER 88,000 MILES, THE SORENTO'S ENGINE STARTED MAKING A LOUD SOUND WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE ENGINE STAYED ON BUT CONTINUED TO MAKE A LOUD SOUND. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO PEAK KIA IN LITTLETON, CO WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED AT A COST OF $7000-$10,000 DOLLARS. THE VEHICLE HAD REGULAR OIL CHANGES UP TO THIS POINT. THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED AN MY VIN NUMBER AND SAID THAT I DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL FOR ENGINE PARTICLES. AS A SECOND OWNER, I DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY. I FEEL AS IF THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED AND HONORED. MY 5 YEAR OLD WELL MAINTAINED CAR HAD NO REASON TO HAVE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT IS DANGEROUS AND THAT IS EFFECTING OWNERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

ISSUE WITH HEADLIGHTS AND WIRING ECT. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR OWNERS WITH THESE VEHICLES FOR YEARS. NOT ONLY IS IT EXPENSIVE FOR THE OWNERS BUT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHEN IT IS DOCUMENTED. LOOK AT ALL THE COMPLAINTS WHY KIA HAS NOT BEEN MADE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. INSTEAD OF LETTING THEM CONTINUE MANUFACTURING VEHICLES WITH THE SAME HEADLIGHTS. MY LOW BEAM PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. I PURCHASED A NEW BULB BUT WHEN MY HUSBAND INSERTED THE NEW BULB IT WOULDN'T WORK. MY HUSBAND DOES ELECTRICAL WORK AND SAID THIS HAS TO BE A SHORT OR SOMETHING IN THE WIRING. WHY DOES THE OWNERS HAVE TO CONTINUE DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE AND SUBJECTED TO THE POSSIBILITY OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT DUE TO NO WORKING LIGHTS OR POSSIBLE FATALITIES. IF WE HAVE SERIOUS INJURIES OR FATALITIES THEN WILL YOU RECOGNIZE HUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM. LOOK AT THE COMPLAINTS. THESE GO BACK FOR YEARS. AND STILL OCCURRING ON NEWER VEHICLES. ON 09/10/2017 WHILE DRIVING A 2012 KIA SORENTO DOWN THE HIGHWAY I HEARD A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE WITH A LOUD BANG A FEW SECONDS LATER.THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT ON 03/17/2017 KIA ANNOUNCED A RECALL FOR 2012 SORENTOS. KIA'S RECALL: SC147: " BEARING WEAR MAY RESULT IN ENGINE SEIZURE" THIS IS ON KIA'S AND NHTSA'S WEBSITES. [ NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 17V224000 "MACHINING ERRORS DURING THE ENGINE MANUFACTURING PROCESS MAY CAUSE PREMATURE BEARING WEAR WITHIN THE ENGINE"] I CONTACTED KIA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1800-333-4542 AND BETHANY TOLD THAT MY 2012 KIA SORENTO WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL BECAUSE THE VIN # WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. SHE SAID THAT I COULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY WOULD CHECK THE OTHER 2 RECALL THOUGH. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE TO SEE OIL POURING OUT FROM A 3 INCH HOLE IN THE BLOCK, TOWARD THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, WHERE THE THROWN ROD BROKE THE BLOCK. OIL IS CHANGED EVERY THREE MONTHS AND THE VEHICLE HAS 120,129 MILES ON IT. THE COST OF A USED ENGINE ALONE IS NEAR $3000, PLUS LABOR TO INSTALL A MOTOR THAT COULD DO THE SAME THING. I WOULD LIKE KIA MOTORS TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE WITH A NEW ENGINE AT NO COST.

DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON A NICE DAY WHEN SUDDENLY MY SUNROOF EXPLODED. HAD NO WARNING . LUCKILY I HAD THE INSIDE COVER CLOSED SO WE DIDN'T HAVE GLASS RAINING DOWN . BUT IT WAS QUITE THE EXPERIENCE.
AIRBAG LIGHT SENSOR ITS ON, THEY CHANGE THE AIRBAG SENSOR ON 2015 BUT KNOW ALMOST 5 YEARS AND 81K ARE NOT COVERING IT. SAYING ITS NON SECURITY ISSUE

I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO CARRY A BACK UP. PLUS MY PLASTIC POS DOOR PANELS DETACH AND TRAP MY KIDS IN THE CAR..WE HAVE TO BEAT THEM DOWN SO SO WE CAN OPEN DOORS. OH AND WE HAD TO CUT THE GAS COVER OFF CAUSE IT WOULDNT OPEN...AND THE SEATS WONT GO DOWN ANYMORE, HATCH WONT STAY UP..AND MY BLUTOOTH SYSTEM ONLY WORKS ABOUT 20 PERCENT OF TIME! NEVER AGAIN KIA!
ON 08/10/12017 WHILE DRIVING MY 2012 KIA SORENTO ON I-40. I HEARD A "RATTLING NOISE" FROM THE ENGINE. AS I SLOWED DOWN THE SOUND GOT LOUDER. I TURNED ON A SIDE STREET INTO A SAFE AREA AND PARKED MY VEHICLE. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER MY HOOD. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW 2 SMALL PATCHES OF FIRE. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THEM OUT, THEN RAN TO A BEST WESTERN HOTEL AND ASKED FOR A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN CASE A FIRE WOULD ERUPT AGAIN. I RESEARCHED AND DISCOVERED THAT ON 03/17/2017 KIA ANNOUNCED A RECALL FOR 2012 SORENTOS. ON 08/12/17 I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO BATTLEGROUND KIA WHERE THE ADVISOR & TECHNICIAN SHOWED ME THE PROBLEM A "THROWN ROD".THIS HOLE IS 3" TO 4" DIAMETER. (PICTURES ATTACHED). I ASKED WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE ROD TO BE THROWN? I HAD MY OIL CHANGED ON SCHEDULE THE LATEST WAS 07/26/2017. THIS VEHICLE HAS 123,937 MILES ON IT. HE REPLIED HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT. ON 08/15/2017 I WAS INFORMED THAT TO REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A USED ONE WITH 99,000 MILES WAS $6400 PLUS LABOR. [THAT IS ABOUT 24,000 MILES LESS THAN MINE CURRENT MILEAGE WITH THE SAME POTENTIAL PROBLEM LINGERING TO HAPPEN AGAIN] IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE PROBLEMS WITH THE RECALL ENGINES ARE IDENTICAL WITH MINE. I WOULD LIKE KIA MANUFACTURING TO REPLACE MY DEFECTIVE ENGINE WITH A NEW ENGINE AND RENTAL VEHICLE AT NO COST TO ME. I'LL LIKE TO PARTNER WITH THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO RECTIFY THIS. SRS LIGHT HAS COME ON. INITIALLY TOOK IT INTO A DEALERSHIP IN 8/2017, WAS TOLD THEY WERE ABLE TO RESET THE SENSOR AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. IT HAS SINCE COME BACK ON AND NOW I AM TOLD I HAVE TO REPLACE THE OCS MAT AND IT WILL COST ME $1900. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. SRS LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO REASON
ISSUE #1: THE LF HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY ON MY VEHICLE EVEN AFTER BEING REPAIRED AND THEN REPLACED CONTINUES TO STOP WORKING. IN AUGUST 2017, MY LF HEADLIGHT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY GOING OUT AND BY SEPTEMBER 2017 FAILED PERMANENTLY. I CHECKED THE LIGHT BULB WHICH WASN'T THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THE CONNECTOR TO THE BULB WAS BURNT OUT WITH ONE OF THE PRONGS MELTED. I CUT OFF THE END AND REPLACED IT WITH A NEW SOCKET (A H8/H11 HEADLIGHT WIRING HARNESS SOCKET - DORMAN# 84783). AFTER REPLACING THE SOCKET, I DROVE MY VEHICLE A COUPLE DAYS AND LF HEADLIGHT FAILED ONCE AGAIN. FIRST SHUTTING OFF INTERMITTENTLY AND THEN COMPLETELY. I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, DARCARS LANHAM KIA, 9020 LANHAM SEVERN RD, LANHAM, MD 20706. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLE HAD A SHORT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME, ORDERED A NEW HEADLIGHT, INSTALLED IT AND THEN DROVE MY VEHICLE FOR A COUPLE MORE DAYS. ONCE AGAIN, THE HEADLIGHT STARTED TO FAIL INTERMITTENTLY, SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THE NEW HEADLIGHT FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW ASKING ME TO BUY ANOTHER HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WHILE THEY REACH OUR TO KIA TO IDENTIFY ANY OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR THE FAILURE. ISSUE #2: IN SEPTEMBER 2017, BOTH THE LF AND RF FOG LIGHTS STARTED ALSO FAILING INTERMITTENTLY. AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAY THAT PIECES OF THE HOUSINGS FOR BOTH FOG LIGHTS HAVE FALLEN INTO THE LIGHTING AREA AND ARE HITTING THE LIGHT BULBS CAUSING THEM TO INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT. AND, OF COURSE MY EXPENSE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER THE LF HEADLIGHT NOR THE FOG LIGHTS! MY VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 85,000 MILES AND THE PREMIUM WARRANTY WHICH LAST UP TO 100,000 MILES IS COMPLETELY USELESS. SO NOW, MY VEHICLE NOW ONLY HAS ONE WORKING HEADLIGHT AND ITS A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE!
WE HAVE A KIA SORENTO 2012. PASSENGERS SMELLED GAS 4.5 HOURS INTO A 5 HOUR TRIP TO PHILADELPHIA. STOPPED AT REST STOP AND DID NOT THINK IT WAS COMING FROM CAR. WE DROVE APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 30 MINS INTO PHILADELPHIA AND GOT OFF THE HIGHWAYS ONTO LOCAL STREETS. JOGGER ON SIDE OF ROAD FLAGGED US DOWN WITH "YOUR CAR IS ON FIRE!" WE PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR. THE KIA SORENTO'S ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. A LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND PUT OUT THE ENGINE FIRE WITH WATER. NO INJURIES.
AS I CAME AROUND A BEND AT ABOUT 20 MPH, MY 2012 KIA SORENTO DIED. THERE WAS NO WARNING, AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS ON A CITY STREET, AND HAD JUST PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN FOR THE TURN. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT, AND NOT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN. I TRIED TO CRANK THE CAR AGAIN, AND IT STARTED, RAN FOR A BRIEF MOMENT, SOUNDED NORMAL, THEN DIED. I TRIED TWICE MORE WITH THE SAME RESULT, THEN CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO GET HOME. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY TO NOTIFY THEM OF THE ISSUE, AND THEY SENT OUT A TOW TRUCK. WHEN THEY TRIED TO CRANK IT, IT RAN ROUGH AND THEN DIED. WE ARE AWAITING APPROVAL FROM CORPORATE KIA, AS WE BELIEVE THAT THIS IS RELATED TO THE ENGINE RECALL THEY HAVE ISSUED.
