I WENT TO ACCELERATE AFTER A STOP AND THE CAR STARTED TO GO WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THERE WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER AND THE ENTIRE CAR SHUT DOWN. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG.THERE WERE NO INDICATION WARNING LIGHTS TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. ONLY WHEN THE CAR STALLED DID THEY ALL FLASH. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT MADE A HORRIBLE CLATTERING NOISE AND HAD VERY LITTLE POWER. I UTILIZED THE MANUAL SHIFTING FEATURE AND THAT HELPED REDUCE THE NOISE, BUT IT WOULD GET LOUDER AS THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE MOTOR, YET IT WAS CHECKED PRIOR TO DRIVING AND THERE WAS OIL ON THE DIP STICK. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 107,000 MILES AND NEEDS A TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT. ONLY AFTER THE INCIDENT OCCURRED DID WE SEE THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR.
I PURCHASED A 2014 KIA SOUL FROM DOUG SMITH AUTOPLEX ON 11-19-2019. THE CAR PURCHASE INCLUDED A 3 MONTH/3,000 MILE WARRANTY I CALLED IN ON 12-12-2019 TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH SERVICE TO INSPECT A NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. THE APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR 12-20-2019, I ADDED A QUART OF OIL TO THE ENGINE. 12-20-2019, I WENT TO THE APPOINTMENT. RICK LARSEN TEST DROVE THE CAR AND FILLED THE RADIATOR FLUID. RICK TOLD ME TO COME BACK IF THE NOISE RETURNED. RICK DID NOT RUN ANY DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. THE SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY OFFERED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. 02-14-2020 I ADDED ANOTHER 1\2 QUART OIL AND FILLED THE WINDSHIELD FLUID. A NOISE RETURNED TO THE ENGINE ON 02-20-2020. I CALLED AT 2PM ON TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SET THE APPOINTMENT FOR FRIDAY 02-21-2020. THE ENGINE SEIZED WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER COMING ON PRIOR TO IT SEIZING 02-20-2020 EVENING ON I-15 FREEWAY SOUTHBOUND @5:40PM. THE KIA SOUL WAS IMMEDIATELY TOWED TO THE DOUG SMITH DEALERSHIP BY JOHN'S TOWING. I WAS ACCUSED BY THE SALES MGR ED OF DOING A FAULTY JOB OF AN OIL CHANGE AND THAT THE OIL HAD RUN OUT ALL OVER THE UNDERCARRIAGE. I WAS LATER TOLD BY THE SAME SALES MGR ED, THAT THE SEAL ON THE OIL PLUG AND FILTER HAD NEVER BEEN BROKEN.
ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION HAS BEEN .69QTS PER 1K MILES. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW. IN THE BEGINNING I THOUGHT THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WASN`T CHANGING THE OIL. I WENT TO A METALLURGIST I HAD DONE SOME WORK FOR AND ASKED HIM TO OBSERVE MY DRAWING OF AN OIL SAMPLE TO SEND OFF FOR ANALYSIS. THERE WAS NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY IN THE OIL. I STARTED SERVICING THE CAR MYSELF. OVER TIME I KEPT TOPPING UP THE LEVEL IN THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS GETTING CLOSE TO THE END OF WARRANTY AND NEWS HAD REPORTED ENGINE FIRES IN MY MAKE AND MODEL OF AUTO. KIA CALLED IN AUTOS FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION ANALYSIS: AN OIL CHANGE - GOOP UP THE DRAIN PLUG, DIP STICK - OIL FILLER - CAP - DRIVE 1000 MILES - BRING THE CAR BACK - CHECK THE OIL - TOP IT UP - DO IT AGAIN. THREE OF THESE CYCLES WERE CALLED FOR. I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK FOR THE FIRST CHECK BY THIS TIME I HAD ZERO CONFIDENCE IN THIS PROCESS. I MADE THEM ALLOW ME TO OBSERVE THE DIP STICK CHECK FOR CRANKCASE OIL LEVEL. LOW AND BEHOLD IT HAD MADE OIL. THIS INDICATED THE OIL LEVEL HAD BEEN EXCEEDED AND THERE HAD BEEN NO BASE LINE BEEN ESTABLISHED SO THE FIRST 1000 MILE CHECK WAS A WASTE OF TIME. I MADE THEM SUCTION OFF THE EXCESS OIL TO ESTABLISH AN APPROPRIATE POINT OF REFERENCE. IN THE END THEY SENT ME HOME WITH A STATEMENT THAT KIA CONSIDERED .7 QUARTS PER 1K MILES ACCEPTABLE. ONE FREE OIL CHANGE @ 1K MILES THEN 10K INTERVALS MILE TO THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. 10K MILES @ ACCEPTABLE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION OF .7 QUARTS PER 10K MILES = AN EMPTY CRANKCASE BEFORE OIL CHANGE IS DUE. NO WONDER THEY FOUND DEBRIS IN THE CRANKSHAFT. IT DOESN`T TAKE A NUCLEAR PHYSICIST TO EXTRAPOLATE THIS. KIA FEELS ITS THE OWNERS FAULT DEBRIS IS FOUND. WHO WOULD BUY A NEW AUTO WITH KNOWLEDGE OF THESE STATISTICS. AT A MINIMUM THE AUTO WAS MISREPRESENTED.
REGARDING NHTSA CAMPAIGN #19V120000, I REPORTED TO KIA THAT MY VEHICLE IS EXCESSIVELY BURNING OIL, THEY'VE ADVISED ME MY VIN DOESN'T APPLY TO THIS PARTICULAR RECALL. IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES I'M ADDING 5QTS OF OIL BECAUSE THE OIL IS JUST MIA. THERE'S NO LEAKAGE AND NO SMOKE FROM THE VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH I'M LOSING OIL THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHT TO ADVISE OF ANY ISSUE. I CAN GENERALLY DETECT I'M LOW ON OIL WHEN VEHICLE IS SLUGGISH ON AN INCLINE, UPON CHECKING THE DIP STICK HAS NO OIL. AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE I'M REQUESTING THAT MY VIN NUMBER BE ADDED TO THE CURRENT RECALL. LAST OIL CHANGE WAS 01/03/2020; I JUST PURCHASED A 5 QUART CONTAINER 02/15/2020 AND HAD TO ADD 2 QUARTS. MY DAILY DRIVING CONSISTS OF ABOUT 16 MILES A DAY; DRIVE MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL AND MYSELF TO WORK, LOCAL. TOO MANY COMPLAINTS PERTAIN TO THIS VERY ISSUE, HOW MUCH LONGER PLEASE?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GO UP A HILL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AS NEEDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER CRESTING THE HILL, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS INTENDED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLE, THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE AND COOLING EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO KIA GURLEY LEEP KIA LOCATED AT 4028 NORTH, GRAPE RD, MISHAWAKA, IN 46545, WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,511.
NOTICED AFTER GETTING AN OIL CHANGE NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER THE CAR WAS LOW ON OIL. COMPLAINED TO KIA DEALERSHIP THAT THEY DIDN'T FILL MY OIL UP WHEN I GOT AN OIL CHANGE. BROUGHT IT BACK IN FOR A TOP OFF AND IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. MONITORED THE OIL CONSUMPTION FOR 2-3 MONTHS COMING TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IT WAS BURNING 2QUARTS EVERY 2 WEEKS. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION WHERE I HAVE GOTTEN THE OIL TOPPED OFF EVERY OTHER WEEK.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. APPROX 70-75 MPH. THE ENGINE MADE A RATTLING NOISE AND SUDDENLY LOST POWER. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF INTERSTATE AND GET OFF THE ROAD. CAR WAS TOWED AND CHECKED BY MECHANIC. COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AND ROD THROWN THROUGH BOTTOM OF ENGINE. CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED WITH REGULAR OIL CHANGES. NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON. CAR TO THIS POINT WAS ALWAYS VERY RELIABLE AND NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES.
MY CAR HAS BEEN BURNING OIL IN AN ABNORMAL RATE. IT BEGIN AT THE BEGINNING OF 2020. I ALWAYS TOOK MY CAR FOR RECOMMEND MAINTENANCE TO THE KIA OF CARSON IN CALIFORNIA. NOW ABOUT EVERY MONTH I HAVE TO TOP OFF THE OIL. AN ESTIMATE OF LESS THAN 600 MILES PER MONTH. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM AT A LIGHT THE CAR WILL SHAKE A BIT. ALSO IF I USE THE AC THE CAR WILL SHAKE A BIT AS WELL IT DID NOT DO THAT BEFORE. IF AM DRIVING I DON'T FEEL THAT SHAKES. THE FIRST TIME THAT I NOTICED SOMETHING WAS GOING ON I WAS AT STOP LIGHT AND MY CAR SHAKED AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO TURN OFF. AFTER THAT IT SHAKES IF AM TOO LONG AT A LIGHT BUT NOT TOO HARD.
TOOK MY CAR IN TO HAVE OIL CHANGED BEFORE IT WAS EVEN DUE AND IT DIDN'T EVEN REGISTER IN THE OIL DIPSTICK. THEY CHANGED OIL I CHECKED IT ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER AND IT WAS HALF FULL, LATER THE NEXT DAY I CHECKED IT AND SAID IT WAS LOW. I HAVE NO OIL LEAKS, SO ITNIS BRINING OIL FOR NO REASON. TAKING TO MECHANIC THIS WEEK
AT ACCELERATION SUDDENLY BOGGED OUT. TURNS OUT TO BE THE 02 SENSOR AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER OVER HEATED, BURNT OUT NEWLY REPLACED SPARK PLUGS. THIS IS THE SECOND SET OF O2 SENSORS REPLACED. MASTER MECHANIC SAYS ALL DUE OVER HEATING FROM EXHAUST.
THURSDAY I HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND CALLED KIA SERVICE AND THEY SAID AS LONG AS ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT FLASHING I WILL BE OK TO DRIVE IT SO THEY SCHEDULED MY APPT. FOR THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. SATURDAY I WAS DRIVING 45MPH ON A BUSY ROAD AND MY CAR STARTING MAKING TICKING NOISE & LOST POWER AND STEERING. I SMELLED A CHEMICAL SMELL SIMILAR TO GASOLINE. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES FOR THE LIFE OF THIS CAR. CONNECTING ROD CAP TO PISTON ROD CAME OUT OF MY ENGINE. MY KIA IS @ DEALERSHIP WAITING FOR CONSUMER AFFAIRS PROCESS. DIST.MGR HAS ALREADY DECLINED REPAIR. NOW WAITING FOR ESCALATION DEPT TO CONTACT ME. ITS NOW BEEN 19 DAYS. MY KIA IS A 2014 WITH THE 2.0 ENGINE. MY SON HAS A PHOTO OF THE CAP STICKING OUT OF THE ENGINE.(I WILL TRY TO UPLOAD ONCE I GET IT.) WHY DOES THE RECALL FOR THE ENGINE NOT PERTAIN TO ALL ENGINES WHEN THE SAME PROBLEMS ARE HAPPENING? AND WHY HAS KIA NOT SENT EVERYONE LETTERS NOTIFYING OF THE RECALL ESPECIALLY WHEN A CRASH OR ENGINE FIRE IS POSSIBLE? IS THIS SAFE AND ACCEPTABLE WHEN HUMAN LIFE IS AT RISK? OR DO WE WAIT FOR THE FIRST PERSON TO DIE?
I BOUGHT THE CAR MAY 28, 2019. IN AUGUST, THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON SO I GOT AN OIL CHANGE; THE FIRST OF MANY. BY JANUARY 2020, I HAD CHANGED THE OIL 5 TIMES, AND SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGAN TO DRASTICALLY SLOW ACCELERATION. IT WOULD REV UP WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND WAS SLOW TO SHIFT GEARS. IT TOOK A LOT OF EFFORT JUST TO GET IT UP TO A NORMAL SPEED AND IF GOING UP A HILL, IT WOULD DECELERATE. I TOOK IT TO A KIA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE VALVE COVER GASKET, AND THE COILS AND SPARK PLUGS WERE DAMAGED DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL SPATTERING. THEY FIRST TRIED TO SAY IT WAS BECAUSE I DID NOT KEEP THE OIL CHANGED, BUT I WAS ABLE TO SHOW THEM JUST HOW OFTEN I HAD CHANGED IT. THEY TOLD ME THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RED FLAG THAT THE ENGINE WAS BAD, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW THAT AND THOUGHT I WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING BY KEEPING THE OIL CHANGED. THEY REPLACED THE VALVE COVER GASKET, ALL COILS AND SPARK PLUGS BUT THE CAR MADE NO IMPROVEMENT. AFTER I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN, I WAS THEN TOLD THE ENGINE WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS FULL OF SLUDGE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT FOR FEAR OF IT CATCHING FIRE, AND THAT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENT THEN GO OUT. THERE ARE MULTIPLE TECHNICAL BULLETINS ON HEADLIGHTS. LOST LEFT HEADLIGHT BECAUSE CONNECTORS WERE MADE OF SUBSTANDARD MATERIAL. THE SOCKED MELTED. DEALER WANTED $800.00 TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT. PARTS AND TIME TO DO IT MYSELF WAS ABOUT $100.00. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY LOOSING HEADLIGHTS DUE TO A KNOWN ISSUE IS A HARD CALL TO TURN INTO A RECALL. ON MY WAY IN TO WORK THIS MORNING MY RIGHT HEADLIGHT WENT OUT MAKING IT 2 FOR 2. HEADLIGHTS ARE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHEN IT IS DARK. WITH ONE LIGHT OUT IS IS HARD TO SEE, IN THIS CASE, THE RIGHT OF THE ROAD ON THE WINDING MOUNTAIN ROAD I TRAVEL IN TO MY OFFICE. THIS STARTS AS INTERMITTENT AND EVENTUALLY BURNS THE CONNECTOR SOCKETS. YOU CAN DO BETTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY FAILED TO ACCELERATE BEFORE STALLING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED A FAULTY ENGINE NEEDING REPLACEMENT. THERE WERE NO CONSEQUENCES. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEFORE STALLING. AFTER STALLING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WAS FLASHING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER COURTESY KIA OF BRANDON (9205 E. ADAMO DR. TAMPA FL) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND OIL PAN WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED BUT APPROXIMATELY 1,000 MILES LATER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
RECALL CAMPAIGN 19V120000 FOR OVERHEATING CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WAS PERFORMED BY CHANTILLY OURISMAN KIA IN MARCH OF 2019. I BELIEVE THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS NOT PROPERLY INSPECTED AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED DURING RECALL REPAIRS. MY VEHICLE IS NOW DISABLED WITH A BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER AS OF JANUARY 23, 2020. HOW CAN I FIND OUT IF THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PROPERLY DONE?
AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTIFICATION, I TOOK MY 2014 KIA SOUL INTO THE KIA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE RECALL REPAIRS COMPLETED ON 07/29/2019. THE CATALYTIC OVERHEATING PROTECTION ENGINE CONTROL UNIT LOGIC WAS UPGRADED; HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON A FEW DAYS LATER INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. LOCAL REPAIR SHOP INFORMED ME THAT KIA SHOULD HAVE COMPLETELY REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER UNDER THE RECALL. I HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE WITH THE KIA DEALERSHIP AND THEIR CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. BUT I'VE RECEIVED NOTHING BUT THE RUNAROUND (WAITING ON THE DEALERSHIP TO RESPOND TO AN EMAIL FROM CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT) FOR ALMOST TWO MONTHS. MEANWHILE, THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO MISFIRE AND THE CAR EXPERIENCES A SEVERE LOSS OF POWER WHENEVER ACCELERATING.
ON JANUARY 20, 2020 I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 50 MPH ON EL MIRAGE RD WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR LOST POWER. I NOTICED THE SPEED DROP AND TRIED PRESSING THE GAS TO GAIN POWER AND SPEED AGAIN THEN I HEARD A LOUD POP. I LOOKED IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR AND THERE WERE HUGE FLAMES AND OIL SPLATTERED ON THE BACK WINDOW. I QUICKLY GOT OUT OF MY CAR AND THE FLAMES IN THE BACK WERE STILL THERE BUT DYING DOWN AND THERE WAS SOMETHING ON FIRE UNDER THE CAR. I HAD TO USE A BOTTLE OF JUICE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE UNDERNEATH THE CAR. IF I DIDN'T HAVE THAT JUICE I'M ALMOST POSITIVE THE WHOLE CAR WOULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE. I STARTED DOING RESEARCH AND SAW THAT KIA SOUL 2014 HAD A RECALL BECAUSE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER OVERHEATING CAUSING THE PISTON RODS TO BREAK AND PUNCTURE THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING AN OIL LEAK ONTO THE HOT EXHAUST SYSTEM WHICH CAUSES A FIRE. THE RECALL NUMBER IS SC155. THIS RECALL SUPERSEDES CAMPAIGNS 14V-332 AND 15V-736. I HAD TAKEN MY KIA SOUL TO GET A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER BASED OFF THE FIRST RECALL IN NOVEMBER. THEY MUST HAVE PUT ANOTHER FAULTY CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN BECAUSE THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO THE RALLY KIA DEALERSHIP IN PALMDALE, CALIFORNIA AND IT IS CURRENTLY STILL THERE. THEY TOOK 2 DAYS TO GIVE ME A RESPONSE ON IF THE CAR WOULD GET FIXED WITH THE RECALL AGAIN. THEY SAID MULTIPLE MECHANICS HAD TO CHECK IT OUT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. THEY SAID IT HAPPENED BECAUSE I DIDN'T PUT OIL IN THE CAR WHICH CAUSE A PISTON ROD TO BREAK AND PUNCTURE THE ENGINE BLOCK, CAUSING AN OIL LEAK WHICH CAUSE THE FIRE. THEY ARE TRYING TO BLAME IT ON ME AND CHARGE ME $6,000 TO FIX THE CAR. THE CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. I HAD JUST PUT OIL IN IT THE NIGHT BEFORE HENCE THE OIL SPLATTER ON THE BACK WINDSHIELD. AND THE WAY THEY DESCRIBED THE PISTON ROD BREAKING AND THE OIL LEAK IS EXACTLY HOW IT IS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. THEY SHOULD BE FIXING MY CAR WITH THE RECALL.
I GOT IN MY CAR AND LEFT WORK. AS SOON AS I STARTED TO DRIVE IT WAS MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHICH IS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO MY WORK. IT WAS DIAGNOSED BY BOTH THAT SHOP, AND A KIA DEALERSHIP SHOP AS HAVING "CONNECTING ROD KNOCK." I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE. IT IS AT RISK OF EITHER A SUDDEN STALL, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH OR, A ROD MAY BE THROWN OUT THE SIDE OF THE BLOCK, PUNCTURING ENGINE OIL CAUSING A FIRE. CAR WAS BROUGHT IN FOR SC176 (RECALL TO FIX ISSUES WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTER CAUSING FIRES). CAR WAS FINE WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN. NO ERRORS, ETC. ONE DAY AFTER RECALL WAS PERFORMED, MIL LIGHT CAME ON. BROUGHT CAR BACK TO SAME DEALER. DEALER SAID THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, WHICH IS THE ENTIRE PURPOSE OF THE RECALL, BUT WAS NO LONGER ELIGIBLE FOR THIS SERVICE. THE SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT WAS APPLIED CAUSED THE CAR TO DETECT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS INDEED BAD, BUT NOW THAT THE DEALER HAS "COMPLETED" THE RECALL, THEY HAVE WASHED THEIR HANDS OF THE SAFETY ISSUE. THEY HAVE ERODED ANY TRUST OF BRINGING A CAR IN FOR A SAFETY RECALL IN THE FUTURE. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO CALL CORPORATE, WHICH HAS BEEN DELIBERATELY UNHELPFUL AND SEEMS AS IF THEY ARE TRYING TO AVOID THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER ALSO SAID I AM NOT THE FIRST CUSTOMER TO HAVE THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE WITH THIS RECALL.

JANUARY 10TH, 2020 MY 2014 KIA SOUL + LOST POWER IN ACCELERATION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE VEHICLES DASH LIGHTS ONLY HAD THE CHECK ENGINE, BATTERY AND OIL LIGHT ON. THE VEHICLES TEMPERATURE GUAGE STAYED CONSISTENTLY IN THE MIDDLE POSITION AT 50%. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC. MY MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT THE ENGINE HAD LOCKED UP. HE ALSO NOTED THE ENGINE HAD NO OIL AND THE OIL PAN WAS DRY... THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. I CHANGE MY OIL RELIGIOUSLY EVERY THREE THOUSAND MILES. HOW IS THERE NO OIL IN THE VEHICLE WHEN I CHANGE IT REGULARLY? THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 117,171 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT LEAKING OIL. MY DRIVEWAY, WHERE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED, HAS NO SIGNS OF OIL LEAKING. THE AREA WHERE I HAD THE VEHICLE COME TO A ROLLING STOP AFTER IT BROKEN DOWN, HAD NO SIGNS OF OIL ON THE GROUND. DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD BANG IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER. AS THE VEHICLE SLOWED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, FOLLOWED BY THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATING. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER AND SMOKE FILLED THE VEHICLE. FLAMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WERE EXTINGUISHED WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THERE WAS A TRAIL OF OIL BEHIND THE CAR WITH SOME POOLING UNDERNEATH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR EXAMINATION: "FOUND BROKEN ROD PUNCHED HOLE IN BLOCK CAUSING OIL LEAK. OIL GOT ON EXHAUST CAUSING FIRE. NEED TO REPLACE LOCKBLOCK AND SEVERAL OTHER COMPONENTS THAT CAUGHT FIRE OR DAMAGED." REPAIR ESTIMATE WITH USED ENGINE ~$8000. I DECLINED REPAIRS AT THIS TIME BASED ON RESEARCH OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE 2.0L ENGINE AND THUS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL #19V-120.
I WAS WITH ON THE HIGHWAY AND NOTICED A NOISE THAT I HADN'T HEARD BEFORE. I WAS ABOUT 40 MILES FROM HOME SO I HEADED TOWARDS HOME AND AS 8 WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE NOISE WAS GRADUALLY GETTING LOUDER, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS, NOT ONE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THAT I HAD A CAR THAT NEEDED A $6000+ NEW ENGINE AND THAT ENGINE REPLACEMENTS FOR THIS CAR MODEL AND YEAR ARE VERY HARD TO COME BY. I AM DISGUSTED.. I WILL NEVER BUY A KIA AGAIN IN MY LIFE. I HAD JUST CHANGED THE OIL 4 MONTHS AGO AND WAS DUE FOR AN 'OIL CHANGE 'SO CALMLY I WENT TO CHECK MY ENGINE AND I WAS MET WITH AN UNWELCOME SURPRISE, MY ENGINE WAS ABNORMALLY LOW ON OIL. I NEVER HAD ANY INCLINATION OIL WAS LEAVING AS I HAD NO TRACE OF LEAKS AND MY OIL LIGHT NEVER CAME ON INITIALLY I THOUGHT MAYBE I COULD JUST PUT SOME MORE OIL AND TAKE IT TO GET THE OIL CHANGED AND THE ISSUE WOULD BE OVER. I WAS TOLD BY FIRESTONE, I SHOULD TAKE TO THE DEALER TO GET CHECKED SINCE IT MIGHT STILL BE UNDER WARRANTY. I DID DRIVE THE CAR HOME AND THEN TO THE DEALER BECAUSE I NOW HAD FRESH OIL AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE THE ISSUE REMEDIED. IT TOOK THE DEALER OVER A WEEK TO HEAR BACK FROM THE TECH LINE, WITH ME CALLING CONSTANTLY TO GET AN UPDATE. ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE IS NOTHING COVERED BECAUSE I HAVE FRESH OIL IN MY ENGINE. IT WOULD COST ME $5,600 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE.I WAS LEFT WITH NO RECOURSE, SINCE I CANNOT TRADE, BUT TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. I STARTED TO DO RESEARCH AND LEARNED THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THE GDI MOTORS FAILING DUE TO FAULTY RODS. I DISCOVERED, MY RODS WERE SHOT AND EVENTUALLY AS I WAS DRIVING TO THE MECHANIC TO HAVE THE NEW ENGINE INSTALLED, SOMETHING SEEMED TO HAVE SHOT THROUGH MY OIL PAN CAUSING A HOLE IN OIL AND TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE, ON THE HIGHWAY. AT THIS POINT, I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK AND ENDURED SAFETY HAZARDS ON THE HIGHWAY. I INITIALLY SAW NO POINT IN HAVING TOWED TO THE SHOP FOR ALMOST 30 MILES BECAUSE THAT WAS THE BEST DEAL, I COULD FIND TO INSTALL THE ENGINE I BOUGHT. I ALSO FOUND OUT I HAD TO HAVE MY CLUTCH REPLACED. THIS WHOLE SCENARIO CAUSED ME A GREAT DEAL OF STRESS, WORRY, AND FINANCIAL TROUBLE. DEALERSHIP SAID THE DOWNSTREAM CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS VEHICLE HAD THE RECALL SC176 FOR ECU CATALYTIC OVERHEATING PROTECTION (COP) LOGIC UPDATE DONE ON 05/08/2019 AT 32,461 MILES, INVOICE # K1CS806584, THE RECALL SAYS 'THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER MAY BECOME DAMAGED DUE TO OVERHEATING CAUSED BY AN EXCESSIVE INCREASE OF EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES'. THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE DETECTED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS FAILING AND REPLACED IT WHEN THEY DID THE RECALL INSPECTION BUT THEY DIDN'T. NOW ONLY 1300 MILES AFTER, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED. CATALYTIC CONVERTER SHOULD LAST 100K+ MILES. LESS THAN A WEEK AND 130 MILES AFTER THE REAR CONVERTER REPAIR, I HAD FRONT CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED AT 33892 MILES. KIA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT WILL NOT REPAIR WITHOUT CHARGING A FEE FOR VEHICLES OUT OF WARRANTY. ON 05/07/2019, I TOOK MY CAR TO JOE MYERS KIA FOR A REPAIR IN REGARDS TO SAFETY RECALL SC176. MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED AND MY CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME ON 05/13/2019. ACCORDING TO SAFETY RECALL SC176 BULLET 4, THIS RECALL WAS TO PREVENT EXCESSIVE EXHAUST TEMPERATURES, WHICH COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PISTON CONNECTION ROD. DAMAGE TO THIS ROD COULD PUNCTURE THE ENGINE BLOCK, ALLOWING OIL TO ESCAPE AND POTENTIALLY CONTACT A HOT EXHAUST SURFACE. WEEKS AFTER MY CAR WAS REPAIRS I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WAS NOW BURNING OIL AT AN EXCESSIVE RATE, AND I WAS NOW REPLACING OIL EVERY 1,000 TO 1500 MILES. THIS ISSUE CONTINUED FROM JUNE THROUGH OCTOBER. I HAD THE CAR EXAMINED FOR OIL LEAKS, BUT NONE COULD BE FOUND. AFTER MY 10/06/2019 OIL AND GENERAL SERVICE, IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THERE'S A CHANCE THAT OIL WAS GETTING INTO THE ENGINE BLOCK. ON 12/05/2019, MY ENGINE BEGAN TO MISFIRE AND KNOCK LOUDLY WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH. AFTER GETTING THE CAR OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND INTO A GAS STATION I CHECKED THE DIP STICK. IT INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE DID NOT HAVE ANY OIL IN IT, BUT THE OIL LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. I ALSO HAD AN OIL SERVICE IN OCTOBER AND HAD NOT DONE MUCH DRIVING SINCE THEN. ON 12/07/19 I TOWED MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND AFTER EXAMINATION INFORMED ME THAT PISTONS 3 AND 4 WERE MISFIRING AND WERE DAMAGED. I CONTACTED JOE MYERS KIA, AS THEY WERE THE ONES THAT RECENTLY REPAIRED MY CAR UNDER RECALL SC176, AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO BRING THE CAR TO THE NEAREST KIA DEALERSHIP FOR EXAMINATION. ON 12/10/19 I TOWED THE CAR TO FREDY KIA FOR AN ENGINE DIAGNOSIS AND FOLLOWING DAY I RECEIVED A CALL NOTIFYING ME THAT MY 1.6L ENGINE THREW A PISTON ROD AND I WOULD HAVE TO GET THE ENGINE REPLACED. THE SOUL ONLY HAS 109,775 MILES ON IT, IS SERVICED REGULARLY, AND BARELY AVERAGES OVER 12,000 MILES ANNUALLY.

MY 2014 KIA SOUL KEPT GETTING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON CODE P050A WHEN COLD OUTSIDE SINCE NOVEMBER 2019. IT STARTED TO DO SO SINCE I GOT THE ECM FLASHED IN MAY 2019 FOR RECALL SC176. DEALERSHIP DOES NOT HAVE A SOLUTION TO FIX THE ISSUE.
MY CAR HAS STARTED TO FAIL ON THE HIGHWAY WHICH I NEED TO DRIVE ON DAILY. THE ENGINE IS SLUGGISH AND GETS NO POWER PAST 3000 RPMS. I HAVE GOTTEN REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THIS CAR AND FEEL THAT A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS NOT SOMETHING I SHOULD HAVE TO BUY WHEN I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 90990 MILES OR SO.
I WAS DRINK TO WORK GOING 30 MPH WHEN THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND I CHECKED IT OUT AND THERE WAS NO OIL IN IT. DEALER WAS NOT CALLED, BUT I GET OIL CHANGES REGULARLY AND I'M SCHOOLED THERE'S NO OIL IN MY CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER, WAITED A FEW MINUTES UNTIL THE ENGINE COOLED OFF, AND DROVE TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
CHECK INLINE LIGHT IS ON AND IT KEEPS READING CATHOLIC CONVERTER AND IT WON'T GO OFF I SWITCHED MY GAS FROM 87 TO 93 AND DID A FUEL TREATMENT AND AT TIMES IT WON'T GO OVER 35 MILES PER HOUR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING AND MY GAS RUNS OUT FAST I'VE GOTTEN A TUNE UP DONE AND A OIL CHANGE
I HAD THE ORIGINAL 2.0L ENGINE THROW A ROD EVEN THOUGH I STAYED UP WITH ITS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. SO I REPLACED IT WITH A USED MOTOR THAT HAD 30000 LESS MI ON IT THAN THE 65000 THE ORIGINAL MOTOR HAD ON IT. ON THE SECOND MOTOR THE 1ST PISTON DISINTIGRATED AND FELL INTO THE OIL PAN. THIS WAS PROCEDED BY A TICKING SOUND AND EVENTUALLY TURNED INTO A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND AND A INTERMEDIATE LOSS IN POWER, LIKE A PARTIALLY CLOGGED CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE 2.0L ENGINE AS IT IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS THE 1.6L ENGINE WAS DOING.
MY 2014 KIA SOUL EXCLAIM WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS CAUSING DECELERATION. I TOOK MY CAR TO KARP KIA WHERE I PURCHASED IT. IT TOOK KARP KIA 1 WEEK TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. 3 WEEKS LATER I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OIL WAS NOT STAYING IN THE CAR BUT LEAKING ONTO THE ENGINE. KARP KIA WILL NOT HONOR MY WARRANTY NOR MY EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE I CAN'T GET ALL OF MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS DESPITE THE ENGINE RECALL. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2017 AND THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 60000 MILES AND NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. I AM LEGALLY DISABLED AND TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO MAKE THEM HONOR THE RECALL/WARRANTY THAT THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ALL OF MY OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS. PLEASE HELP ME.
CAR IS GOING THROUGH ALL OF ITS OIL. GOES THROUGH APPROXIMATELY 1QT EVERY 1,500 MILES. WHEN I FIRST CAME ACROSS THIS PROBLEM THE CAR WAS MAKING A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND, TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THERE WAS APPROX 1 QUART OF OIL IN THE CAR. I ONLY DROVE ABOUT 3,000 MILES SINCE THE LAST FULL SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGE. THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THIS ISN'T EXCESSIVE AND IT IS COMPLETELY NORMAL. I CAN ONLY DRIVE 1,500 MILES UNTIL THE OIL IS NO LONGER SHOWING ON THE DIP STICK. CURRENTLY STILL WORKING WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO PROVE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES. I GOT A OIL CHANGE APPROX 250 MILES AGO AND HAVE TO DRIVE 1,000 TOTAL AND THEY WILL EXAMINE THE CAR AGAIN.
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, "55 MPH" SPEED LIMIT WAS 60 MPH MY ACCELERATION WENT OUT ON MY CAR AND I COULDN'T GO ANY FASTER THEN 20/25MPH. MY CAR STARTED TO SOUND LIKE A WEED EATER AND I NEVER GOT A SINGLE LIGHT FOR SOMETHING BEING WRONG. AS I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD MY CARS ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE A KNOCKING SOUND. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP CLOSE TO WERE I LIVE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE HAD PIECES OF METAL FLAKES IN IT AND THAT IT WAS LOCKED. THEY ALSO SAID THAT IT WAS 3.5 QUARTS LOW OF OIL BUT I JUST HAD THE OIL CHANGE AND HAD ABOUT 3,500 MILES LEFT BEFORE I NEEDED MY NEXT OIL CHANGE. I'M WRITING ON HERE BECAUSE I CALLED KIA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY 2.0 ENGINE DIDN'T HAVE A RECALL ON IT, BUT AS I RESEARCH I CONTINUE TO FIND MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE A 2.0 ENGINE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE OF THE RECALL ON THE 1.6 ENGINES.
