WHILE DRIVING A 2014 KIA SOUL ON THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE A SUDDEN AND LOUD POPPING SOUND. WHEN EXITING THE FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP AND STALLED. IT WOULD NOT START BACK UP. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM KIA WITH 27K MILES ON IT. IT ONLY HAS 76K MILES ON IT NOW. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL KIA DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED IT AS A SPUN BEARING OR ENGINE FAILURE. NO OBVIOUS SIGNS OF DAMAGE AND NO LEAKS. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS OR ANY OTHER ISSUES PRIOR TO ENGINE FAILURE AND THE OIL WAS JUST CHANGED WITHIN THE LAST MONTH. NO STORED ENGINE CODES OR FAULTS. *TR
DRIVING THE CAR AT 50MPH ON A ROAWDAY ON 5-25-2020 AND THE CAR MADE A HORRIBLE ENGINE NOISE, SLOWED AND WOULD NOT START. IT WAS TOWED TO KIA OF STREETSBORO WHO FOUND THE ENGINE FAILED AT 95183 MILES. WE CHANGED OIL CONSTANTLY AT 3-4000 MILES AND ARE ORIGINAL OWNERS. NEVER HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATE. ONLY ISSUE EVER WAS A WARRANTY CLAIM ON A STARTER THAT FAILED. KIA FOUND METAL IN THE OIL PAN AND VERIFIED OUR CONCERNS, INSTALLING A REMANUFACTURED ENGINE. APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES LATER, THE CAR STALLED AT 35 MPH AND DIED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED AND WE HAD IT TOWED TO WAIKEM KIA. THEY DIAGNOSED A $1500.00 CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE INDICATING A HIGH AMOUNT OF CARBON BUILD UP CAUSING FAILURE. CONTACTED KIA WHO REFUSES TO ACCEPT ANY CUPLABILITY FOR THE CAT FAILURE. THAT'S TWO TIMES WHERE A CRASH COULD HAVE HAPPENED DUE TO FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE ON THE ROADWAY.
AS WITH THE 1.6 ON THE 2014 SOUL, A ROD BLEW THROUGH THIS 2.0 ENGINE AND KILLED IT. THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THE 1.6, WHICH WAS RECALLED. JUST DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT STARTED TO SLOW QUICKLY AND VERY ERRATIC, WHILE KNOCKING LOUDLY. DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. LUCKILY IT STOPPED RUNNING WHILE ON AN OFF RAMP TO GET OUT OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC.
The contact's neighbor owned a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in his neighbor’s garage, another neighbor noticed smoke coming from the walls of the garage. The contact then stated that his neighbors were awakened by another neighbor alerting them of the fire. The contact’s neighbor was able to exit the home and notified the fire department that extinguished the fire. No injuries were sustained. No medical attention was required. A police and fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The vehicle was inspected by an investigator who determined that the fire was started in the engine compartment. Additionally, the contact stated that prior to the failure, on three separate occasions, while his neighbors were driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that oil had leaked profusely from an unknown location and the catalytic converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired three times. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact then stated that upon research, the VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine). Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 118,006.
WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT NORMAL SPEEDS WITH NO PRIOR ISSUES, ENGINE SEIZED UP. REQUIRED FLOORING TO ACHIEVE 25 MPH. STALLED REPEATEDLY. TOOK TO SHOP AND ENGINE DESTROYED, NO OIL FOUND WITH NO PRIOR LEAKS AND REGULAR CHANGES. NO PRIOR ENGINE TROUBLE/HISTORY. CAR HAS 68,000 MILES. *TR
CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDS REPLACING, CLOGGED AND BROKEN. WENT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE SAID CATALYTIC CONVERTER SHOULD NOT BREAK/CLOG LIKE THIS FOR YEARS. CAR HAS WEAK ACCELERATION, AND MAY EVEN SEIZE AND STOP ACCELERATION WHILE THE GAS IS BEING APPLIED.
WHILE DRIVING ON A STREET AT 55 MPH MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLED AND THE FRONT WHEELS LOCKED FOR SECOND. LUCKILY IT WAS DRY STRAIGHT PAVEMENT SO I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR BUT IT HAD A VERY LOAD KNOCK SO I IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE CAR BACK OFF. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON EVEN AFTER THE ENGINE FAILED. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING KIA HAS RECALLED THIS SAME 2.0 LITER ENGINE IN OTHER MODEL CARS BUT NOT THE SOUL. THE CAR ONLY HAS 75K MILES AND HAS THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 5K MILES. IT SEEMS THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE CAUSING ENGINE SEIZE AND FIRES IN OTHER MODELS AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED IN THE RECALL. THE ONLY SOLUTION AFTER THE FAILURE IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AND WHO KNOWS HOW LONG THE REPLACEMENT ENGINE WILL LAST BEFORE SUFFERING THE SAME FAILURE. *TR
WHILE OUR DAUGHTER-IN-LAW WAS DRIVING OUR 2014 KIA SOUL ON THE HIGHWAY IT SHUT DOWN SHE COASTED OFF AN EXIT RAMP, CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. MECHANIC CHECKING IT SAID ENGINE IS BAD,OIL WAS CHANGED @ 5 WEEKS AGO AND LEVEL WAS GOOD. NO WARNING SIGNS. *TR
LOSING OIL AND HAVING A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE. KIA MOTORS HAD US TAKE A VEHICLE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THAT REVEALED LOSS OF 1/2 QUART EVERY 500 MILES. THEY ALSO HAD US TAKE A COMPRESSION TEST, AND THREE SEPARATE TRIPS TO THE DEALER FOR VIDEO ANALYSIS. AFTER SIX WEEKS THEY FINALLY DECLARED THE CAR UNDER WARRANTY. THEY ORDERED A SHORT BLOCK ENGINE AND SENT THE 'HEAD OF THE ENGINE OUT TO BE RETOOLED BY A LOCAL SHOP. AFTER OVER THREE WEEKS WE GOT THE CAR BACK. IN A TIME PERIOD OF ONE WEEK THE CAR HAD A SERIES OF EVENTS. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC ON MY WAY TO WORK, IT ALSO HAD A PERIOD WERE WHEN STARTING THE CAR, IT SHOOK LIKE CRAZY, BUT STARTED. THE TOP COVER I FOUND OUT LATER THAT IT SHOOK OFF ITS PEGS AND WAS RESTING LOOSE ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND WAS LOSING OIL. I HAD TO ADD 1/2 QUART. THE DIAGNOSTIC ON MY PARTNER'S WI-FI IN THE CAR HAD A DIAGNOSTIC ERROR STATING THE CAM-SHAFT WAS HAVING PROBLEMS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT A NEW ENGINE WAS JUST BREAKING IN, BUT THE FINAL STRAW WAS A LARGE POOL OF AUTOMOTIVE FLUID ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TAKEN THE CAR BACK TO WORK ON IT FURTHER. BOTH THE MECHANIC WHO PUT THE ENGINE BACK TOGETHER AND THE SERVICE MANAGER WHOM I INITIALLY TALKED TO ARE NOW GONE. I STARTED THIS PROCESS ON 06/10/20, PICKED UP A REPAIRED CAR ON 09/29/20, AND RETURNED IT IN A WEEK. AS I WRITE THIS COMMENT IT IS NOW 10/17/20 AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND IF THERE IS ANY MORE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE WITH ALL THAT HAS OCCURRED AFTER THE WARRANTY REPAIRS. THE CAR IS IN MY PARTNER'S NAME OF PATRICIA A HOLCOMB.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE OF MY CAR. AT FIRST IT HAD STALLED OUT A FEW TIMES, THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS MY BATTERY, SO I GOT A NEW BATTERY AND STILL WAS NOT RUNNING RIGHT. IT WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME ACCELERATING AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON, HAD SOMEONE LOOK AT THAT KNOWS CARS AND HAS WORKED ON THEM BEFORE AND THAT THE NOISE IT WAS MAKING, THE CLICKING NOISE, WAS THE STARTER. WELL I GOT A NEW STARTER FOR IT AND STILL NOTHING. IT WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME ACCLERATING, WOULD MAKE THIS CLICKING, TICKING NOISE WHEN YOU BARELY TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD STAY ON AND THE OIL LIGHT WOULD BLINK. RECENTLY JUST HAD THE OIL CHANGE AT A SHOP AND THEY THINK IT IS THE MOTOR. WELL HAD ANOTHER PERSON CHECK IT OUT AND NOW THEY DEFINITELY THINK IT IS MY EXHAUST CAMSHAFT. SO NOW MY CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY TIL I CAN GET IT FIXED.
I FIRST STARTED NOTICING THAT MY VEHICLE WAS BURNING OIL FASTER THAN NORMAL IN AUG. 2018. I TOOK IT TO MIDAS TO GET MY OIL CHANGE AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT MY CAR WAS BURNING OR LEAKING OIL BECAUSE I HAD TO PUT MORE OIL IN MY CAR. HOWEVER THERE IS NO LEAKING NO WHERE. MIDAS TOLD ME TO COME IN SOONER FOR MY OIL CHANGE AND THAT'S WHAT I DID. THEN IN LATE PART OF 2019 AND EARLIER 2020 I WILL BE DRIVING AND MY CAR WOULD STALL AND ACT LIKE IT IS GOING TO SHUT OFF. IN JUNE 2020 I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND LOSING POWER. I PULLED OVER AND WAITED A LITTLE BIT. I THANK GOD I WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT. MY ENGINE THEN STARTED KNOCKING ONCE I GOT HOME AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CODE WAS MY O2 SENSOR. I GOT THAT REPLACED BUT MY ENGINE KEPT KNOCKING. SO I TOOK IT TO FORT WAYNE KIA BE A TWO REPAIR SHOPS STATED THAT IT SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE, AND KIA DEALERSHIP SAID IT WASN'T MY ENGINE KNOCKING IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT IS BAD AND CAUSING THE KNOCKING/NOISE. BUT THAT'S PART OF MY EXHAUST SYSTEM AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NOISE COMING FROM MY ENGINE, AND BURNING OIL. OF COURSE THAT PIECE SUPPOSEDLY ISN'T COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. KIA SAID IT WAS GOING TO COST OVER $2000 TO REPLACE THE PART BUT NEVER EXPLAINED WHY MY CAR IS BURNING OIL SO QUICKLY. I HAVE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW THINKING I WOULDN'T HAVE THE SAME ISSUES THAT COME WITH BUYING A USED CAR BUT NOPE. I NEED MY VEHICLE TO GET AROUND AND WORK. WHY ISN'T KIA UNDERSTANDING THAT IN THE 2014 KIA SOUL + 2.0 LITER THERE IS A MAJOR MALFUNCTION THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the oil warning light was illuminated after an oil change. Upon inspection, the contact noticed there was no oil in the oil reservoir. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where various unknown tests were performed. The dealer diagnosed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil, which caused the engine to fail. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The consumer took the vehicle to Kia of Cherry Hill, NJ, who stated the engine could seize at anytime even though with the car having regular oil changes.
MY WIFE AND I ARE THE FORMERLY PROUD OWNERS OF A 2014 KIA SOUL 2.0 OUR FIRST KIA WAS A 1996 SPORTAGE, WE BOUGHT IT NEW AT ONE OF THE FIRST FOUR KIA DEALERS IN THE US, BOB LANPHERE IN BEAVERTON OR. WE HAVE BEEN KIA EVANGELISTS FOR MANY YEARS. HOWEVER, OVER SOME TIME, OUR 2014 SOUL SEEMED TO BE SLOWLY LOSING POWER, AND ALSO LOSING SOME OIL BETWEEN CHANGES. WE USED IT IN TOWN, RARELY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I GUESS IT IS AN EXAMPLE OF SLOWLY TURNING UP THE HEAT ON THE POT OF WATER FOR THE FROG; BUT WE JUST DIDN'T PAY MUCH ATTENTION. WE HAPPENED TO TAKE IT TO OUR MECHANIC TO HAVE THE BRAKES DONE, HE CALLED UP, SAID THE BRAKES WERE READY BUT THAT THE CAR HAD LITTLE POWER AND ASKED 'HOW DID WE DRIVE IT LIKE THAT?' HE FURTHER VOLUNTEERED THAT THE EXHAUST EMITTED A METALLIC ODOR HE ASSOCIATED WITH A DYING CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND THAT A CLOGGED CONVERTER CAN SIGNIFICANTLY HAMPER THE POWER. WE WERE SURPRISED TO HEAR THE NEWS BUT THE GENTLEMAN HAS PROVED HIS ACUITY AND INTEGRITY A NUMBER OF TIMES OVER THE YEARS WITH OTHER VEHICLES. WE SUBSEQUENTLY HAD THE ENTIRE CONVERTER REPLACED WITH AN AFTERMARKET PRODUCT FOR A "MERE" 900 DOLLARS. AFTER THE FACT, WE THOUGHT THERE WAS STILL SOME HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATION WAS REQUIRED, BUT IT CLEARLY RAN MUCH BETTER. THEN WE FOUND OUT ABOUT THE 1.6 RECALL, AND A CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR THE 2.0! NOW WE WORRY THAT IF THERE IS A PROGRAMMING ISSUE IT COULD DAMAGE ANOTHER CONVERTER AND EVEN WORSE IF THE CONVERTER IS NOT THE INSTIGATOR THEN THE CAR MIGHT STOP DEAD AND/OR CATCH ON FIRE AT ANY TIME REGARDLESS OF A NEW CONVERTER. IT RUNS VERY HOT, AND HAS LESS POWER THAN IT SHOULD. NOBODY CAN EXPLAIN WHY THE BAD ECU PROGRAMMING WOULD NOT EFFECT THE 2.0 ENGINE'S CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WE HAVE ASKED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE KIA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER TO EXPLAIN THE DISTINCTION BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING WITH NO REAL ANSWER.
VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING WITHOUT ANY WARNING, KIA DIAGNOSED IT AS ENGINE FAILURE REQUIRING NEW ENGINE AND WOULD NOT CONSIDER ANY PORTION OF THE REPAIR COST AS ITS OBLIGATION EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD BE WARRANTIED TO A FIRST OWNER WELL BEYOND THE APPROXIMATELY 74,000 MILES IT HAS. ULTIMATELY, GAVE A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS TOWARDS A TRADE. I HAVE ATTACHED THE DISPUTED CASE INFORMATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE A CLICKING NOISE AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PULL OVER, THE VEHICLE ALSO BEGAN TO STALL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE TO A PARKING LOT AS SMOKE BEGAN TO EMIT FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC INFORMED HER THAT STEERING ROD HAD BROKEN OFF AND WENT THROUGH THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN DIAGNOSED AS AN ENGINE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WENT TO NORTH COUNTY KIA LOCATED AT 1501 AUTO PARK WAY S, ESCONDIDO, CA 92029 WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
CAR WASN'T GETTING POWER TO GO UP HILLS OR ACCELERATE ON HIGHWAY, AND BURNING THROUGH OIL. TOOK IT TO KIA DEALER SHIP AND WAS TOLD CATALYST CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF THE SAME MODEL CARS HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS AS ME. *TR
MAY 13, 2020 RECURRING ISSUES WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. ERROR CODE PO5OA REPROGRAM POWERTRAIN CONTROL. COLD START IDLE AIR CONTROL SYSTEM. OUTSIDE TEMP WAS 67F LIGHT WENT ON WHILE CAR WAS IN FLIGHT ON A HIGHWAY. CAR IDLES ROUGHLY WHEN THE LIGHT GOES ON. *TR
MY KIA SOUL 2014 SINCE MARCH HAS BEEN CONSUMING ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF OIL HAD IT CHECKED NO LEAKS. I HAD THE OIL CHANGED ON FEB 28TH 2020 AND THEN BY THE END OF MARCH NOTHING ON THE DIP STICK HAD TO PUT 3 MORE COURTS IN, NOT EVEN 4000 MILES. TOOK IT IN TO CHANGE THE OIL TWO DAYS LATER, THE NEXT DAY APRIL 1ST WENT TO MARYLAND CHECKED OIL WHEN WE CAME BACK, DOWN JUST A LITTLE. CHECKED AGAIN TWO WEEKS LATER DOWN HALF AND PUT OIL IN. ON MAY 2ND CHECKED THE OIL BEFORE MY HUSBAND WENT TO ASHEVILLE FOR WORK AND NO OIL ON THE DIP STICK ADDED OIL AND TOOK TO KIA ON THE 4TH. STARTED A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST ON MAY 4TH BY MAY 11TH WAS HALF WAY IN BETWEEN LOW AND FULL SO I WENT TO KIA AND THEY TOPPED IT OFF. THEY ALSO SAID IT IS A KNOW ISSUE BUT NO RECALL AND THEY HAVE THREE VEHICLES IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW WAITING FOR NEW ENGINES. THEY COULD QUOTE ME ON AN ENGINE OR I WOULD JUST HAVE TO KEEP ADDING OIL. IT IS SHAMEFUL THAT THEY NOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT WILL NOT CORRECT IT. *TR
I HAD BEEN USING OIL, HAD LOSS OF POWER, MPG TANKED, ENGINE VIBRATION, ENGINE IDLING ROUGH, JUST OVER ALL IT NOT RUNNING RIGHT. IT DIDN'T MATTER IF I WAS IDLING, DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR CITY STREETS, THE PROBLEMS WHERE THERE. I HAD THE GDI SERVICE DONE, BUT THE PROBLEMS GOT WORSE. I THEN HAD THE PLUGS REPLACED, STILL DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. I WENT TO GET IT DIAGNOSED AND THEY TOLD ME THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS SEVERELY STOPPED UP AND THAT I SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT IS FIXED.
I BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY AND THE NEXT DAY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CUT OFF AND MY CAR TURNED OFF A WEEK LATER AT STOP LIGHT. ALSO, A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I TRY TO TURN.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. I TURNED DOWN THE RADIO DUE TO HEARING A SHAKING NOISE. THE SHAKING NOISE BEGAN TO GET LOUDER AND SHOOK MY WHOLE CAR. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND TURNED MY CAR OFF RESULTING IN SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I IMMEDIATELY GOT OUT OF THE CAR. I RETURNED TO MY CAR THE FOLLOWING MORNING TO SEE IF THE CAR WAS IN NEED OF COOLANT OR OIL. THE OIL RESERVOIR WAS FULL BUT THE OIL PAN WAS EMPTY FOR SOME REASON. WE FILLED IT WILL OIL WAITED A BIT AND TRIED TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON. THE ENGINE SHAKING ONLY GOT WORSE. I CALLED ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP. ONCE AT THE DEALERSHIP AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH THERE IS A RECALL OUT ON MY CAR FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT I WAS MADE AWARE OF PREVIOUSLY BY AUTO ZONE AFTER DOING A FREE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON MY CAR LAST YEAR. WHILE READING INTO THE RECALL IT STATES A PISTON ROD CAN BE THROWN FROM THE CAR PUNCTURING THE ENGINE CAUSING OIL TO ESCAPE FROM THE ENGINE. THIS IS THE EXACT WORDS THE SERVICE GUY AT KIA HAD SAID HAPPENED TO MY CAR. HE SAID SINCE MY CAR WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE ON LONG ENOUGH WHILE SEIZING TO CHECK IF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS THE CAUSE THAT HE WOULD NOT FIX THE CAR EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL SPECIFICALLY STATES WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR AND WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF NOT TAKEN CARE OF. AS WE EXCITED THE FREEWAY, THE CAR STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AT THE STOP LIGHT. AS I PULLED INTO THE GAS STATION THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING ON ITS OWN AND I HEARD A LOUD "PING". AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO RE-START THE CAR, WE HAD TO LEAVE IT AT THE GAS STATION OVER NIGHT. WHEN I WAS TRYING TO RE-START THE CAR I NOTICED THE ENGINE WASN'T CRANKING AT ALL, ALMOST LIKE IT WAS A DEAD BATTERY. IN THE MORNING THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP BUT WITH A HORRIBLE LOUD KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I HAD TO DRIVE IT HOME WHICH IS ABOUT 3MILES, I HAD NO OTHER OPTIONS. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME IT WAS A ROD KNOCKING. I STILL OWE $8,247.89 AND TO FIX IT IS GOING TO BE WELL OVER $5,000. THE CAR HAS 109,776 MILES, MY HUSBAND MAINTAINED IT RELIGIOUSLY, AND TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN SO CLOSE INTO PAYING IT OFF IS DEVASTATING AS THIS WAS OUR ONLY CAR. WHILE DRIVING OUR 2014 KIA SOUL BASE 2.0L ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED MAKING A VERY LOUD KNOCKING NOISE. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF AT THE NEXT RAMP TO CHECK THE OIL. THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE STICK AND IT HAD A BURNT SMELL. THERE OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED BY THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 6 WEEKS PRIOR, AND WE HAD NO INDICATION THAT THE OIL WAS LOW, THE ENGINE HASN'T BEEN SMOKING, AND THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE GROUND. THE SHOP HAS NEVER MENTIONED OUR OIL BEING LOW WHEN WE CAME IN FOR A CHANGE. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE SINCE TOLD US THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. OF COURSE WE ARE JUST PAST THE WARRANTY WITH ABOUT 109,000 MILES ON IT.

The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil and the seals needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the shaking and excessive oil consumption recurred. Additionally, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS AT THE SHOP, THE KIA HAS BEEN BURNING OIL. THERE IS NO SMOKE OR LEAKS. A COMPRESSION TEST WAS NOT DONE AT THE ORIGINAL INSPECTION OF THE CAR, AND THERE IS NO OIL IN THE CAR AFTER ABOUT 500 MILES. THIS ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING OIL SINCE 85000 MILES AND THERE IS "NOTHING" THAT KIA CAN DO FOR OUR ISSUE. THUS, IN LINE WITH OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE THERE SHOULD BE SOMETHING DONE FOR THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THE OTHER ENGINES, BUT THE 2.0L ENGINE IS NOT UNDER RECALL....YET. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AND A GENERAL CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO MONITOR OIL CONSUMPTION OF AN ENGINE AT 60-80K MILES. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINES AND IT COULD BE A REAL CONCERN FOR SAFETY.

THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST $6,000.00 WHICH IS CLOSE TO THE OVERALL VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. I AM NOW FACING A VERY DIFFICULT FINANCIAL DILEMMA AND HARDSHIP FOR SOMETHING BEYOND MY CONTROL.

ONE MORNING THE ENGINE STARTING MAKING A LOUD CLATTER (SOUNDING LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE) AND HAD A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING ON A COUNTY ROAD NEAR MY HOME. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO TURN AROUND AND RETURN HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. I LATER TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION THEY DETERMINED THE ENGINE HAD SPUN A ROD BEARING CAUSING INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE. THERE WERE NO SYMPTOMS OR ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE LEADING UP TO THIS FAILURE. THROUGH RESEARCH I LATER DISCOVERED THE MANY ISSUES KIA HAS HAD WITH THIS ENGINE RELATED TO SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED LIMIT, 75MPH, THE CAR STARTING LOSING POWER AND STARTED TO SHAKE, THEN IT SPED UP AGAIN AND LEVELED OUT. ONCE I REACHED THE NEAREST GAS STATION, IN PARK, IT WAS SHAKING AND RATTLING. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND UPON HIS INSPECTION, FOUND A HOLE IN THE PISTON. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD REPLACE THE ENGINE FOR $9000.00. I HAD INFORMED THAT THERE MAY BE A RECALL, SO I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD NO. THEY DID NOT ASK FOR A VIN OR ANYTHING.
VEHICLE STALL ON THE HIGHWAY, IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE BLEW A PISTON . THIS ALL HAPPENED ON THIS VEHICLE AT 21,000 MILES. LEAVING MY YOUNG DAUGHTER STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY ALONE AT NIGHT . AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND OUT THERE HAS BEEN RECALLS ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTERS OVERHEATING AND CAUSING PISTON PROBLEMS IN THE ENGINE . AFTER READING MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE VERY SAME REASON MORE MODELS OF KIA SHOULD BE RECALLED
ENGINE BURNING OIL. NO SIGNS OF LEAKAGE OR "BLUE SMOKE". USUALLY HAVE TO PUT IN BETWEEN 3 AND 5 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. KIA WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED, DIDN'T KNOW IT HAD AN ISSUE. OIL GOT DANGEROUSLY LOW WITHIN 30 DAYS OF OWNING THE CAR. THAT'S WHEN I FOUND OUT IT WAS BURNING OIL. IT HAS 11,0000 MILES ON IT AS OF THIS COMPLIANT. ISSUES STARTED FOR ME AT AROUND 100,000 MILES. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE KIA DEALER, THEY SAID THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD BROUGHT IT IN TO HAVE AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST DONE. KIA DEALER SAID ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
