VEHICLE RENDERED INOPERABLE DUE TO A THROWN ROD. ENGINE CONNECTING ROD FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND WITHOUT WARNING POPPED AND FAILED. THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T RUN CORRECTLY AFTERWARD AND REQUIRED A TOW.
AT 10000MI, THIS CAR LOST PICK- UP, THEN CHARGING OUTLETS FAILED. BY 30000MI, THE BRAKES WERE MUSHY AND WEAK, THE ENGINE MAKES NOISE, STEERING ISSUES AND WEIRD SMELLS STARTED TO OCCUR. BY 45000MI, THE BRAKE LIGHT FAILED, VIBRATION/SHAKING, HESITATION AND LURCHING (ON ITS OWN), GAS MILLAGE WAS CUT IN HALF, RMPS/IDLE UNUSUALLY HIGH, FAULTY/ FAILED SENSORS, FUEL GAUGE FAILURE, HEATING/BLOWER FAILURE. DEALERSHIPS WILL NOT LOOK INTO ANYTHING WITHOUT A "CODE" TRIPPING, AND I WAS TOLD BY THEIR MECHANIC THAT KIA CORPORATE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY INVESTIGATION OF ISSUES WITHOUT A DIAGNOSTIC CODE, SO MY WARRANTY WOUN'T COVER THE HIGH PRICE OF FINDING THE ISSUES. I GET IN THE CAR, START IT UP AND THE NOISE AND REV IS NOT NORMAL. I DRIVE 10 FEET AND THE CAR STARTS SHAKING AND MAKING NOISE. WHEN I TRIED TO TURN ON THE HEAT, LOUD NOISES STARTED UNDER THE HOOD, AND THE ENGINE WOULD REV, WHEN THE CAR REVVED, THE HEAT WOULD KICK ON FOR 2 SEC THEN FALL OUT AGAIN. IT NOW DOESN'T PERFORM AT ALL. WHEN I ACCELERATE AFTER A STOP LIGHT, IT WON'T MOVE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, THEN PUTTERS AND GOES. I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO MANY ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS.
My car caught fire upon a drive home. Had to call fire department and extinguished it myself before fire department arrival. Took vehicle to local Kia dealership to have them check car. Documentation of charting from fire. They told me it’s because I needed new snow tires. I purchased new tires. Months later my engine started knocking and vehicle is not drivable. I have filed a national claim with Kia due to safety recall on 4/21/21. I have sent pictures and report. I leave multiple voicemails. No one is calling me back. Case number 14128806. Case manager is Jesse. Twice I’ve been told his supervisor will call me back and no one has. Fire occurred in 2018- engine blew in 2021
RECALL 17V608 DID NOT FIX PRIOR RECALL 14V332 AND 15V736 PROBLEMS, CAUSED FAILURE OF STEERING, AIRBAGS, AND ENGINE. ACCIDENT ENSUED. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ON CITY STREET AT SPEED UNDER 40 MPH. DRIVER WENT TO CHANGE LANES AND STEERING WOULD NOT WORK. REAR-ENDED VEHICLE IN FRONT. AIR BAG DID NOT GO OFF, CHANGE LANE INDICATOR WAS NOTED ON AT SCENE. DRIVER STATES VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE INTO LANE TO THE RIGHT AND, THEREFORE, REAR-ENDED VEHICLE. SEVERE DAMAGE TO FRONT END OF KIA SOUL NOTED. KIA WAS CONTACTED.
RIGHT HEADLAMP BEGAN FLICKERING WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS SINCE FAILED COMPLETELY. BULBS HAVE BEEN CHANGED AND THE ISSUE PERSISTS. DOES NOT MATTER IF VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR DRIVING. APPROXIMATELY 65000 MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LIBERTY KIA (921 S MILWAUKEE AVE, LIBERTYVILLE, IL) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LATER TOWED TO CROWN KIA (903-581-7688, LOCATED AT 4818 TROUP HWY, TYLER, TX 75703) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 124,000.
HEADLIGHTS FLICKER OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN ON AUTO-HEADLIGHTS. HEADLIGHTS DO NOT FLICKER WHEN MANUALLY MOVED TO ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN AND ON THE HIGHWAYS.
CURRENTLY MY GAS MILAGE HAS DECREASED BY APPROX 4 MILES PER GALLON. IN THE WINTER I GET 30 MPG AND USED TO GET 34; IN SUMMER I GET 32.5 MPG AND USED TO GET 37. THINGS CHECKED: BRAKES TIRES AND ALIGNMENT AIR FILTER ENGINE CODES GAS QUALITY ( USED MOBIL PREMIUM GAS) PERFORMED A CARBON CLEANING FOR GDI ENG FUEL SYSTEM CLEANING ENGINE CLEANING WITH OIL CLEANING (FLUSH) ADDITIVE. AFTER ALL CLEANINGS ONLY SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT (APPROX 0.5 MPG). I SUSPECT A FAULTY CAT CONVERTER BUT HAVE NO WAY TO CHECK IT.
DRIVING ON FREEWAY OR STREET, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTING TO HEADLAMPS FLICKER ON AND OFF WHEN USING TURN SIGNALS. THEY WILL STAY OFF SOMETIMES THIS IS DANGEROUS.
RECEIVED AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL ON 12/01/2017 REGARDING THE PINION GEAR THAT MAY SEPARATE FROM THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING & RESULT IN A CRASH. I CALLED IMMEDIATELY TO SET AN APPOINTMENT ON 12/12/2017. I WAS CALLED JUST 1/2 PRIOR TO MY APPOINTMENT TO BE TOLD THEY DO NOT HAVE THE TOOLS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IN FACT, NO KIA DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA HAS IT. I AM DRIVING ACROSS THE STATE OF FL IN A FEW DAYS & AM EXTREMELY WORRIED SINCE I WILL BE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS IN TRAFFIC. SO, KIA ALERTS SOUL OWNERS & FAILS TO PROVIDE THE MEANS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I AM TOLD IT WILL BE SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE THEY HAVE THE TOOLS NEEDED TO REPAIR. MY PARTICULAR CAR HAS HAD A STIFFNESS IN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL A FEW TIMES. I NEED MY VEHICLE FOR THIS TRIP, BUT, WILL INQUIRE ABOUT A LOANER CAR. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. WHILE DRIVING, THE HEADLIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER AND THEN INADVERTENTLY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LAWRENCE KIA (1225 E 23RD ST, LAWRENCE, KS 66046, (785) 856-8700) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIRING OVERHEATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
THE STEERING WHEEL WILL EXHIBIT A STICKY OR NOTCHY FEELING WHEN MAKING SMALL ADJUSTMENTS. IT CAUSES FATIGUE WHILE DRIVING AND MOST DANGEROUSLY ON SWEEPING TURNS THE STEERING WHEEL WILL TAKE EXTRA EFFORT TO ADJUST.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor inside the vehicle. The contact stated that the engine was running hot with a knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and then stated that the VIN was not included even though the VIN tool confirmed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine). A case was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
WE RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER. THE PINION IN THE STEERING IS FAULTY AND COULD COME LOOSE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WHICH MAY RESULT IS SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I BROUGHT IT IN IMMEDIATELY. THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. I ASKED THEM TO KEEP IT AS WE DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. WE ASKED FOR A REPLACEMENT CAR WHILE WE WAITED. THEY SAID NO. WE LEFT THE CAR ANYWAY AND I CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE RECALL NOTICE. IT SAID THEY WOULD REIMBURSE US FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE OR EXPENSES INCURRED. THE WOMAN SAID THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME UNTIL THE CAR WAS LOOKED AT. SHE ASKED ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING AROUND A VEHICLE WITH A KNOWN ISSUE RISKING MY FAMILY'S LIVES BECAUSE THEY WON'T GIVE ME A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. AS MONEY IS VERY TIGHT WE ARE MAKING DUE BUT IT HAS BEEN A SEVERE INCONVENIENCE TO SAY THE LEAST. THIS PROBLEM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH US AND LEAVING THE CAR WITH THEM IS A SAFETY ISSUE. NOT WORK I WANTED DONE OR UPGRADES I CHOSE TO WAIT FOR. IT IS THEIR MISTAKE AND I DON'T BELIEVE A CUSTOMER SHOULD BE FORCED TO PAY FOR IT. I WOULD LIKE COMPANIES WITH RECALLS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE AND SERVICE PEOPLE FAIRLY. I'M GREAT FULL THAT WE HAVE NOT BEEN INJURED DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND TO DRIVE KNOWING IT IS THERE IS FOOLISH. THE COMPANIES RESPONSE ASKING ME TO DRIVE AROUND IN A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS VEHICLE IS ABSURD.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE DASH BOARD STARTED TURN OFF AND ON THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE AND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY.WITHIN A FEW MINUTES SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE CAR FOLLOWED BY A SMALL FIRE. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND THE FIRE GREW AND COMPLETLY BURNED THE CAR.
THE HEADLIGHTS OF MY 2014 KIA SOUL HAVE BEEN FLICKERING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING OR STATIONARY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO A DEALERSHIP BUT AFTER BEING CHARGED THE 80$ DIAGNOSTIC FEE, I WAS TOLD THE ISSUE IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE NEGATIVE BATTERING TERMINAL CONNECTOR. THE ISSUE IS STILL ONGOING EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE NEGATVE BATTERY TERMINAL. THIS IS THE MOST COMMON COMPLAINT WITH THIS MANUFACTURER. WHEN IS KIA GOING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE AND DO A RECALL?
11/10/17: DRIVING SOUTH BOUND ON THE TACONIC STATE PARKWAY MY VECHICLE STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND AND STALLED DURING DRIVING. LUCKILY I WAS ON THE RT HAND SIDE AND MADE IT TO PULL OVER. GOT MY CAR TOLD AND MECHANIC TOLD ME MY ENGINE SEIZED. HE ALSO TOLD ME THIS WASN'T THE FIRST 2014 KIA SOUL THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TOO. TOOK ME BY SURPRISE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER MISSED AN OIL CHANGE. I CALLED KIA AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT.
HI I WAS LOOKING AT RECALLS FOR THE SOUL AFTER I SAW A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD AND ACTUALLY TYPED MY VIN IN AND SAW MY CAR WAS RECALLED FOR A STEERING ISSUE THAT COULD'VE LEAD TO ACCIDENTS AND I WAS ACTUALLY IN AN ACCIDENT IN 2017 IN MY 2014 KIA SOUL BECAUSE OF SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED WITH MY STEERING THAT CAUSED ME TO HIT SOMEONE? A WOMAN IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HER BRAKES AND WHEN I TRIED TO GET OVER IT'S ALMOST LIKE THE WHEEL HAD COMPLETELY LOCKED BUT UP BUT I COULD STILL TURN IT, IF THAT MAKES SENSE. THERE WAS A WEIRD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN IT HAPPENED AND SOMETIMES I STILL HESRIT OCCASIONALLY. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO GO FORWARD WITH THIS. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
ON 10/25/2017 WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MY 2014 KIA SOUL CAUGHT ON FIRE - SPONTANEOUSLY AND WITHOUT WARNING (NO APPARENT ISSUES IN OPERATING THE CAR, WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH, ETC.). TWO FELLOW MOTORISTS HONKED THEIR HORNS AND FLASHED THEIR LIGHTS IN AN EFFORT TO SIGNAL ME. THE BACK WINDSHIELD BEGAN TO 'FOG UP' DUE TO THE HEAT/FIRE, AND WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. IN AN EFFORT TO ESCAPE THIS EMERGENCY, I ALONG WITH MY SON, WHO WAS DRIVING, IMMEDIATELY GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND MOVED A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY BEFORE CALLING 911. AT THIS POINT FLAMES WERE COMING FROM BOTH UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CAR WAS SOON ENGULFED IN FLAMES. MULTIPLE FIRE ENGINES RESPONDED TO THE SCENE IN EXTINGUISHING THE FIRE AND SECURING THE SCENE. THE CAR WAS A COMPLETE LOSS (SEE PICTURES ATTACHED IN THE REPORT). IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT MY 2014 KIA SOUL WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP BETWEEN 10/17/2017 - 10/19/2017 FOR DIAGNOSTICS DUE TO LIGHTS (INTERNAL AND ON THE DASH) FLICKERING AND AN ABNORMAL SOUND. THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE BATTERY, PERFORMED A SAFETY INSPECTION, BUT WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE FLICKERING LIGHTS ISSUE, NOR WERE THEY ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE ABNORMAL SOUND ALTHOUGH THEY DID ACKNOWLEDGE ITS PRESENCE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT RELEASED THE VEHICLE TO ME AND ADVISED ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. MY CAR WAS BROUGHT HOME, PARKED, AND NOT DRIVEN UNTIL THE INCIDENT ON 10/25/2017.
WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT THE LEFT DRIVER SIDE HEAD LIGHT TURNS OFF ON IT'S OWN AFTER BEING ON FOR ABOUT 4 MINUTES. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE LIGHT TO COME BACK ON IT TO TURN THE HEADLIGHT OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN TURN THEM BACK ON. THIS IS NOT SAFE AT ALL AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FLICKER INTERMITTENTLY AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS EITHER STATIONARY OR MOVING, ON THE STREET OR HIGHWAY. ROAD CONDITIONS DO NOT SEEM TO BE A FACTOR.I USUALLY DRIVE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON DURING THE DAY. VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE AUTO-HEADLIGHTS. HAVE BEEN TO DEALER THREE TIMES FOR REPAIRS. PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. I HAVE ENCLOSED COPY OF REPAIR BILLS(OVER $700.00) & A RECALL ARTICLE FROM RECALL MASTERS. (RECALLMASTERS.COM) I REALIZE THAT THE 2014 SOUL IS NOT MENTIONED IN THIS NOTICE BUT, IT HAS ALL THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS.I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAUSES THIS TO HAPPEN. THE DEALER & I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO INDUCE THIS TO HAPPEN. THE DEALER HAS NOT SEEN THIS HAPPEN. THEY CAN ONLY TAKE MY WORD THAT IT DOES.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN OMAN HERE AND NOW DISCOVERED THIS ISSUE, I WOULD LIKE UNDERSAND WHAT'S THE ISSUE WITH CAR AND WHAT CAN BE DONE NOW
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT HAD THE VALVE COVER GASKET AND SEAT BELT RETRACTOR REPLACED AT FOLSOM LAKE KIA (12751 FOLSOM BLVD, FOLSOM, CA 95630). AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO AVOID A CRASH DUE TO THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK STRAIN, HEADACHES, AND INJURED HER LEFT KNEE IN THE PROCESS OF EXITING THE VEHICLE. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER, BUT WAS REFERRED TO THE INSURANCE AGENCY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 12479808. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine light, oil light, and battery light remained illuminated and blinked off and on. Also, a knocking and ticking sound was coming from the engine compartment along with a burning oil odor. Additionally, the vehicle would not exceed speeds over 60 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was later taken to the local service center which determined that the catalytic converter was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 KIA SOUL ON HIGH WAY 45 SOUTH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER STEERING STARTED FAILING , AND SO I PULLED OVER AND THEN I SAW THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY AND WHEN TRIED STEERING THE WHEEL MADE NOICES
THE HEADLAMPS BEGAN TO FLICKER AND THEN SHUT OFF. THE LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE CAR AND ALL LIGHTS ON THE CAR, THE LIGHTS CONTINUED TO FLICKER OCCASSIONAL AND FREQUENTLY ENOUGH TO DRAIN THE BATTERY. NOTHING I DID WOULD MAKE THE DASH LIGHTS AND FLICKERING LIGHTS GO OUT.
I KEEP HAVING ALOT OF ISSUES WITH THE CENTER REAR SEATBELT. IT'S BEEN FIXED BEFORE AND STILL LOCKS UP SO IT WON'T PULL OUT OR GO IN. VERY IRRITATING TO KEEP HAVING THIS ISSUE. WHICH NOW , ISN'T UNDER WARRANTY.
ENGINE CUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE CAR WAS MOVING IN BOULEVARD TRAFFIC, DECELERATING AS I APPROACHED A TURN INTO A SHOPPING PLAZA. OIL LIGHT CAME ON. ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART. MECHANIC SAYS THERE ARE LOOSE LITTLE PIECES OF METAL INSIDE ENGINE AND THAT ENGINE MUST BE REPLACED. I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MAINTENANCE. THIS ENGINE SHOULD NOT HAVE SELF-DESTRUCTED AT 93,000 MILES. I AM FILING THIS INFO WITH NHTSA BECAUSE I SUSPECT THAT PREVIOUS KIA ENGINE RECALL SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED THIS MODEL ALSO.

THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO SWITCH THE HEADLAMP SWITCH ON AND OFF IN ORDER FOR THE HEADLAMPS TO ILLUMINATE. THE ROCK RIVER FORD DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL REGARDING THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED WITH CASE NUMBER: 124-09-938. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.

MY FOUR YEAR OLD SON AND I WHERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND OUT OF NOWHERE IT STARTS SHAKING, SMOKING, AND OIL STARTS SPEWING. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK. WAS TOLD MY ENGINE EXPLODED. CALLED KIA AND THEY WILL DO NOTHING. I AM 1800 MILES OVER MY 100,000 MILE WARRANTY AND HAVE DONE EVERY MAINTENANCE REQUIRED. I STILL OWE ON THIS CAR AND EVEN THOUGH KIA HAS RECALLS ON SORENTOS AND OPTIMAS FOR THIS, THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING.
ONE THE HEADLIGHTS STARTED OUT AS JUST FLICKERING, IT WOULD TURN OFF FOR 2 SECONDS BUT WILL COME BACK ON AS I'M DRIVING. THEN AFTER ABOUT A WEEK, IT WOULD BE A WHILE AND I HAVE TO TURN MY LIGHTS OFF THEN TURN IT BACK ON TO GET IT TO WORK AGAIN. BUT THESE PAST FEW DAYS, IT WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL EVEN AFTER FLIPPING THE SWITCH ON-OFF. I DRIVE HOME LATE FROM NIGHT CLASS AND I'M AFRAID THE OTHER HEADLIGHT IS ON ITS WAY OUT TOO.

I HAVE RIGHT AT 60,000 MILES ON MY KIA SOUL. WAS DRIVING AND PINION BROKE WAS TOTALLY UNAWARE OF RECALL UNTIL I TOOK CAR TO MECHANIC HE ADVISED ME TO GET WITH KIA BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY RECALLED ISSUE. FIRST DEALER I CALLED TOLD ME IT WAS RECALLED BUT THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE PIN NOT THE DAMAGE THAT THE PIN FAILURE CAUSED. THEN TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE GOING TO SEE IF THEY COULD GET IT COVERED ASKED IF THEY COULD CALL ME BACK. NOW I AM CURRENTLY WORKING WITH ANOTHER DEALER CAN'T USE ORIGINAL DEALER I MOVED AND THEY WERE BOUGHT OUT. GUESS WE WILL SEE IF I AM ABLE TO GET SAFETY RECALL FIXED AND HOW MUCH IT COST ME IF IT DID ANY OTHER DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSED BY KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFAULT. STEERING WHEEL POPPED AIR BAG LIGHTS, STEERING WHEEL LIGHT, AND COULD BARELY TURN THE CAR. I AM ALSO GOING TO HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET IT GET CAR TOWED TO KIA DEALERSHIP.
CAR RANDOMLY START VIBRATING, MISFIRING, AND IT WOULD NOT INCREASE IN SPEED. IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO TURN ON FROM A COLD START. THE THE ENGINE FAILED, SENT IT OUT TO THE DEALER TO WORK ON IT UNDER WARRANTY, AND WE'VE HAD AN OPEN CASE SINCE. THEN RECENTLY MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHILE IN MOTION ON ITS OWN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING, MAKING IS HIGHLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE.

THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO THE CURB AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED CUTS AND BRUISES ALL OVER HIS BODY, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A MANUFACTURER RECALL (SC144). PRIOR TO THE CRASH, THE DRIVE SHAFT HUB NUT WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
This vehicle was parked prior to the incident. The 2014 Kia Soul had been backed into parking space number 28 and pulled forward midway through the space where it appears the car was put back into park. It was here the occupant of the vehicle, Mr. Keith Nash perished in a fire that consumed his 2014 Kia Soul while taking his life. The 2014 Kia Soul has an open NHTSA recall 20V-750 and would have been eligible for settlement in the Kia Engine Class Action Settlement. [XXX] (C.D. Cal.) These reports go into great detail of this event. Based on this manufacture, and their parent company Hyundai’s history of non-collision fires and the hundreds of prior complaints on file with NHTSA, one might speculate that while in motion Mr. Nash noticed smoke from under the dash and put the car back into park. An engine fire can go from nothing to fully engulfing a vehicle in seconds, and as documented with these vehicles rendering the electronic door lock inoperable (as noted in the [XXX] incident in the rented 2019 Kia Soul). In a panic he placed his foot on the accelerator causing the motor to rev to a high RPM. It was noted in the report he seemed distorted and unable to escape, this is to be expected. This 2014 Kia Soul would have been one of the 13,114,339 vehicles recalled for non-collision engine fire according to the Center for Auto Safety Hyundai/Kia Fire and Engine Recalls 2010-2024 report, updated on March 28, 2024. Kia was aware of this incident as well as the owner’s insurance carrier Allstate insurance, yet they both failed to fie a complaint with NHTSA. This behavior is inexcusable and jeopardizes the safety of every American on the road and in close proximity to these manufactures’ vehicles. AT 37,000 MILES THE RACK AND PINION BROKE. THIS DISABLED THE CLOCK SPRING WHICH DISABLED THE AIR BAGS. WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 25 MPH AND STEERING FAILED. THANK GOD I WAS NOT ON EXPRESSWAY GOING 55MPH OR WHEN THE RACK AND PINION BROKE MY STEERING ABILITY WOULD HAVE BEEN LOST AND NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. VEHICLE TOWED TO KIA AND RACK AND PINION REPLACED. I HAVE ANOTHER 2014 KIA SOUL AND I WORRY THE SAME THING MAY HAPPEN TO IT. KIA TOLD ME THAT THIS IS NOT A COMMON PROBLEM AND WAS A PART FAILURE.
WHEN MAKING A TURN OF CHANGING LANES WHEN TURN SIGNAL IS SET ONCE IT RESETS ALL LIGHTS TURN OFF OR HIGH BEAMS FLASH TURN ON/OFF AND HAVE TO MOVE OR PLAY WITH TURN SIGNAL HANDLE FOR THE LIGHTS TO TURN ONE AGAIN. NOTE WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AND CHANGING LANES AT NIGHT I SET THE TURN SIGNAL TO CHANGE LANES AND WHEN IT RESET ALL LIGHTS TURNED OFF LEAVING ME DRIVING IN THE DARK AND MY FAMILY SAFETY WAS AT HIGH RISK. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH TURN SIGNAL HANDLE CAUSING A SHORT, NOTE THAT SOME TIMES INSTEAD OF LIGHTS TURNING OFF THE HIGH BEAMS FLASH ON/OFF.
WITH HEADLIGHTS TURNED ON. HEADLIGHTS SOMETIMES WILL NOT COME ON. CAN HAPPEN TO EACH HEADLIGHT INDEPENDENTLY. SOMETIME GOING TO HIGH BEAM WILL MAKE LOW BEAM COME ON WHEN SWITCHED BACK TO LOW BEAM. SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE WHEN COLD. THIS HAPPENS WHILE SITTING STILL OR WHILE MOVING. VIBRATION DOESN'T SEEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. LIGHTS DO NOT FLICKER. THE JUST WON'T COME ON. LIGHTS HAVE JUST GONE OFF AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON. LET SIT THEY WILL COME BACK ON AFTER TURNING LIGHT SWITCH OFF FOR PERIOD OF TIME.
IN MARCH OF 2017, ENGINE FAILED AND LOST POWER WHILE DOING 50MPH AT 78K MILES ON THE CAR. WAS TOLD BY DEAN MCCRARY KIA OF MOBILE, AL THAT A ROD BEARING WAS KNOCKING AND ENGINE LOCKING UP. I WAS CURRENT ON ALL OIL CHANGES AND MAINTENANCE, UNFORTUNATELY I DID NOT FALL UNDER THE 100K MILE WARRANTY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD 500 MILES ON IT WHEN I PURCHASED AND I WASN'T CONSIDERED THE ORIGINAL OWNER. AFTER A MONTH OF BACK AND FORTH WITH KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS TOLD THAT KIA ENGINEERS INSPECTED IT AND FOUND THAT PISTON ROD BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE BLOCK AND METAL SHAVINGS WERE FOUND IN THE OIL PAN. KIA FINALLY SAID THAT THEY WOULD "GOODWILL" THE COST OF THE ENGINE AND REIMBURSE THE MONTH THAT I WAS IN A RENTAL CAR, BUT THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE $1040 IN LABOR CHARGES FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IF THE ENGINE PROBLEM WAS EVER RECALLED, I WOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE LABOR CHARGES. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE NEW ENGINE WAS PUT IN, I GOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR P0420. BACK TO DEAN MCRARY AND THEY REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I WAS TEMPORARILY HAPPY YESTERDAY TO SEE A RECALL ON THE CAT CONVERTER FROM APRIL 2019 THAT SHOWED IT WOULD CAUSE THE SAME ENGINE PROBLEM. CALLED KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE TO SEE IF I COULD BE REIMBURSED THE LABOR FEES AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT THAT IT IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PROBLEM. MY EXACT ENGINE THAT FAILED WAS RECALLED BY HYUNDAI AND FOR OTHER MODELS OF KIA'S. I'M STILL DUMBFOUNDED THAT I HAVE TO EAT THIS LABOR COST AND DON'T KNOW WHERE TO TURN TO. I HAVE ALL THE PAPERWORK TO SHOW WHAT HAPPENED FOR BOTH THE ENGINE AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
SINCE I'VE OWNED MY 2014 KIA SOUL, I'VE HAD TO DEAL WITH A RECALL FOR THE A PIN (SO MY STEERING WHEEL WON'T STOP WORKING) AND MY A PROBLEM WITH MY AXEL NUT 2/01/2017, WHICH BEGAN SHAKING MY VEHICLE ON HWY 16, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I HAD THAT FIXED AND JUST HAD A RECALL SERVICE AND REALIZED THIS WAS SOMETHING I ALREADY PAID FOR, WHICH I'VE REQUESTED A REFUND. IN BETWEEN THOSE INSTANCES, I HAD BOTH HEADLIGHTS STOP WORKING, IN THE DARK, WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A POORLY LIT HWY 302. I HAD THOSE REPLACED AND THE DRIVER SIDE WENT OUT AGAIN, AT NIGHT, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE HEADLIGHT CONNECTIONS WERE MELTED. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE. WITH THAT SAID...THIS CAR HAD A POTENTIAL ISSUE WITH ROLLING, STEERING AND VISIBILITY...PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAPPEN ALL AT ONCE BUT YOU NEVER KNOW. REGARDLESS, I'M STARTING TO WONDER HOW SAFE THIS VEHICLE REALLY IS AND WOULD HOPE THAT KIA WOULD BE A RESPONSIBLE COMPANY AND ASSIST WITH HELPING THE CUSTOMER REMEDY THESE CONCERNS. I REALLY AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND WILL BE DRIVING ANOTHER VEHICLE MORE REGULARLY. KIA TOLD ME THAT SINCE THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL ON THE HEADLIGHTS THAN THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. 2014 KIA SOUL STEERING FAILURE 16 MONTHS AFTER RECALL REPAIR WAS DONE TO PREVENT IT (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 15V736000). THE STEERING MADE A CLUNKING SOUND WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT A STOP SIGN ON A CITY STREET AND THE CAR CONTINUED STRAIGHT ACROSS THE INTERSECTION. STEERING ABILITY WAS COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED. 29,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. DEALER INSPECTION FOUND THE RACK AND PINION PLUG REPAIR PROCEDURE WAS NOT INVOLVED, AND INSTEAD THE CAUSE WAS THE SPLINE SEPARATING FROM THE SHAFT. NO CAUSE WAS IDENTIFIED. MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.

THE LEFT HEADLIGHT WOULD WORK ON AND OFF. I HAD THE DEALER CHECK IT AND THEY REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT ON 12 DEC WITH A SYLVANIA HEADLIGHT BULB I PROVIDED. AFTER A WHILE THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. ON 13 JAN 17 THEY REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT AGAIN. THIS TIME WITH A KIA BULB.. SAME ISSUE. I HAD MORE ISSUES WITH THE LIGHTS WORKING SOMETIMES AND NOT WORKING. THE LIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY FOUND A SHORT. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AND ALSO WHEN IT WAS STOPPED. SOMETIMES IT WOULD BE WORKING WHEN I PARKED BUT WOULD NOT WORK WHEN I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AGAIN. IT WAS AMAZING THAT THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T TROUBLE SHOOT THE ISSUE THE FIRST TIME. THEY SAID THE WARRANTY WAS INVALID AFTER WE CHANGED THE BULB WITH A NON-KIA BULB. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THE FIRST REPLACEMENT BULB WAS COMPATIBLE WITH THE KIA SOUL.
