ONE DAY I HEARD A RATTLING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. THE NEXT DAY, THE NOISE TURNED INTO A VERY LOUD TICKING/KNOCKING SOUND. I KEEP MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES SO IT COULD NOT BE THAT THERE WAS NOT ANY OIL IN THE VEHICLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AS I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE I HAD HEARD THAT THE CARS WERE CATCHING ON FIRE. I INQUIRED ABOUT THIS AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NOT ANY OPEN RECALLS ON ENGINE DAMAGE WITH KIA SOULS AND A DIAGNOSTIC WOULD BE PERFORMED. A FEW DAYS LATER I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS GONE AND ADVISED $6800 TO REPAIR. THE FUNNY THING IS I HAVE BEEN ASKED REPEATEDLY, HOW WOULD THE ENGINE GO OUT IN A 4 YEAR OLD CAR? I WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY REMAINING ON THE CAR FROM THE MANUFACTURER AS I WAS THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND THE WARRANTY ENDED AT 60,000 MILES. IRONICALLY, MY ENGINE FAILED AT 68,729. NOW, I'M STUCK WITH A CAR THAT DOESN'T RUN AND OWE ALMOST $10000 ON IT. I AM BEYOND HEATED WITH ANGER. I CAN'T TRADE IT DUE TO THE NEGATIVE EQUITY AND IT COSTS MORE TO REPAIR IT THAN WHAT THE CAR IS ACTUALLY VALUED AT.
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE (PLASTIC) RUPTURED, VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY PULLED OVER AND PASSER-BY STOPPED WITH FIRE EXTINGUISHER. COST OF REPAIR IN EXCESS OF $5000, KIA CORPORATE REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 KIA SOUL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, A CLICKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND A PASSERBY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE THAT IGNITED UNDER THE HOOD. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. A FIRE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 KIA SOUL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STOPPED BY AND CHECKED THE OIL. THE TECHNICIAN ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AS SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALL STAR KIA EAST (225-490-7679, LOCATED AT 27700 JUBAN RD, BUILDING 3, DENHAM SPRINGS, LA 70726) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE ENGINE. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED A NEW SHORT BLOCK BE INSTALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,704.
SUDDEN LOSS OF OIL WHILE IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY RESULTED IN ENGINE FAILURE.
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH BOUND ON RTE 295 IN WARWICK RI TRAVELING APPROX. 65 MPH IN A STRAIGHT PATTERN WHEN I HEARD A SNAP UNDER MY CAR. MY CAR SKID AND MY HYDROPLANE LIGHT, OIL LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SAW SPARKS. I PULLED OVER AND AT THIS TIME MY CAR STALLED. WHEN I EXITED MY VEHICLE THERE WAS A FIRE IN THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY ENGINE. 911 WAS DISPATCHED AND MY CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES IN MINUTES AND WAS A TOTAL LOSE. THERE WAS A RECENT RECALL IN THE PISTONS CAUSING FIRE DAMAGE TO THE MODEL, MAKE AND YEAR OF MY CAR. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL AND IT WAS NEVER REPAIRED. I BELIEVE THE ISSUE MAY HAVE BEEN IN THE PISTONS AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER; NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V120000; KIA'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS SC176. I AM A AWAITING MY ACCIDENT REPORT AS THE INCIDENT JUST HAPPENED
The KIA Catalytic Converter recall update from 2019 did not work. My check engine light kept coming on after that and KIA did not replace the catalytic converter or car, as they were supposed to, even though my car WAS under the emissions warranty at that time. They said the update to the computer took care of it, but the engine light kept coming on. Now the catalytic converter failed, no surprise, and it has also damage my air conditioner. Kia is paying for NOTHING. The dealership was sold to a new owner and my car is no longer under warranty, but this is not an isolated sequence of events with the Kia Soul catalytic converter recall. Kia should've replace my catalytic converter, or the whole car/engine, at the time I brought it in...but now here I am with 4 grand in repairs (catalytic converter & exhaust manifold, gaskets, a/c blower, and resistor...common issues occuring from a bad catalytic converter)...NOT to mention more than $500 in car rentals, etc. I am furious that Kia did not listen to me about the engine light after the catalytic converter recall, when it turned on my engine light. Additionally, it has caused oil leakage, which can lead to fire. The recall number is SC176, my case number is 14760972
MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND GO OFF. MY OIL IS ALWAYS LOW.

THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND HAD IT TOWED TO TAYLOR KIA OF BOARDMAN (7870 MARKET ST, YOUNGSTOWN, OH 44512, (330) 886-4942). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I HAD MY CAR INTO THE DEALER FOR UNKNOWN OIL LOSS, THE CAR WAS NOT BURNING IT OR LEAKING. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT IT WAS AN ISSUE BUT THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON IT. THEY TOOK THE ENGINE APART AND TOOK PICTURES TO SUBMIT TO KIA FOR ADVICE. KIA REFUSED TO AUTHORIZE THEM TO FIX THE ENGINE. ON MY WAY HOME ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CAR THE ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING WHEN ACCELERATING, THE CAR LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 111000 MILES AND IT'S BEEN SITTING FOR 2 YEARS NOW BECAUSE IT NEEDS THE ENGINE AND CATALYTIC CONVERTED REPLACED. I HAD TO BUY ANOTHER CAR TO DRIVE. I HAVE PERIODICALLY CALLED CAR TO SEE IF THEY WERE GOING TO DO A RECALL ON THE 2.0 ENGINE LIKE THEY DID FOR THE 1.6 BECAUSE THE 2.0 WAS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. IT BEEN 2 YEARS AND FINALLY I GOT A RECALL LETTER THAT THEY NOW HAVE THE RECALL. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO SUNTRUP KIA TO GET A NEW ENGINE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE KIA COMPUTERS HAD BEEN HACKED AND THEY COULD NOT GET APPROVAL TO FIX THE ENGINE. THEY HOPED IT WOULD BE UP NEXT WEEK. NEXT WEEK CAME AND THEY CALLED AND SAID THEY FIXED THE RECALLS. I ASKED IF THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT QUICK. THEY SAID NO MY CAR DID NOT FAIL SOME TEST THEY DID. I CALLED KIA TO GET THE ISSUE RESOLVED AND THEY ALSO TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE THERE COMPUTER'S WERE DOWN AND HAD NO ETA ON WHEN THEY WOULD BE BACK UP. NOW I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED HOME AGAIN. SUNTRUP KIA RECOMMEND ME NOT TO DRIVE IT.
ENGINE LIGHT ON CATALYTIC CONVERTER MAKE NOISE CAR BURNING ALOT OF OIL NO LEAKS GET OIL CHANGE EVERY 3,000 MILE HAVE TO PUT 3 QT. IN LESS THEN A MONTH

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, A KNOCKING SOUND EMERGED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR FLASHED, AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO HESITATE AND LOSE POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LA FONTAINE KIA (2027 S TELEGRAPH ROAD, DEARBORN, MI 4812) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V120000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO SUBMIT THE RECEIPTS TO DETERMINE IF THERE WAS REIMBURSEMENT ELIGIBILITY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SONS KIA (100 SONS DR, MCDONOUGH, GA 30253, (678) 619-1393) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT CUTS OUT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE IN USE. UPON INSPECTION THE CONNECTION TO THE BULB SOCKET WAS FOUND MELTED AND BLACK

CARMAX (3147 TOM WATSON DR, TUPELO, MS 38804, (662) 844-1017) INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE COULD NOT TRADE THE VEHICLE IN WITH THE FAILURES AND THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT OIL WAS COMING OUT OF THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V120000 (ENGINE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT CURRENTLY HAD THE VEHICLE PARKED AT HER HOUSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
2015 Kia Soul engine failure with approximately 71k miles, Jan 1029. This particular VIN was not part of a prior recall. A recall was issued after this date to request owners of these particular vehicles to bring their cars in to the dealership to have them checked and a possible software update to prevent engine failures. What recourse do I have as there is not a recall for my particular VIN to replace a failed engine and since the engine has already failed and modifications to software abviously is not a solution at this point? How does a consumer get protection from a clearly known failure mode for these particular engines? Please Help!!!

AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE FLAMES WERE PRESENT COMING FROM UNDER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FLAMES WERE EXTINGUISHED BY THE OWNER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER COURTESY KIA OF BRANDON ( 9205 EAST ADAMO DR., TAMPA FL.) WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE PISTON HAD FAILED CAUSING A PUNCTURE TO THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED OIL TO LEAK ONTO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER (13524294) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 19V12000 (ENGINE). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
THE BRAKE PAD COVERING THE BRAKE PEDAL SLID OFF. THIS MAY IMPACT BRAKING IN SUDDEN STOP SITUATIONS.
ENGINE OIL IS DISAPPEARING. NO LEAKS TO BE FOUND. EXHAUST CLEAN, NO OIL BURN SMOKE. WHILE DRIVING ENGINE MADE TAPPING NOISE. CHECKED OIL DIPSTICK AN FOUND NO OIL SHOWING. ADDED 2 QTS.... I CHANGE OIL EVERY 5,OOO MILES. I CHANGED OIL AND FILTER AND CHECKED THE OIL AFTER 2K MILES AND HAD TO ADD ANOTHER QUART. CAR HAS 119K MILES NOW. I HAVE WORKED ON ENGINES OF ALL SORTS FOR 50YRS, AND THIS PUZZLES ME. I SEE NO EVIDENCE OF WHY OR HOW THE OIL IS DISAPPEARING.
KIA SOUL 2015 STALLS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, SERVICE CENTER BLAMES BAD BATTERY. ALSO CAR STRANDS ME BY FAILING TO START TWENTY MINUTES LATER IT STARTS FINE. I BLAME ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT MAY HAVE TAKEN OUT MY BATTERY. BAD BATTERY OR NOT, A CAR SHOULD NOT FAIL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DUE TO A BAD OR LOW BATTERY. THIS IS INCREDIBLY UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED.
I WAS PULLING INTO A DISABLE PARKING SPACE. I PUSH MY BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR AND THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND TO THE BRAKE. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT WORK MY CAR CONTINUE TO GO WITHOUT STOPPING. I PUSH MY BRAKES MANY TIMES, PUSHING IT AS FAR AS I CAN. THE ONLY WAY IT STOP IS WHEN THE CAR HIT THE FAT ROUND CEMENT POLE. I KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING BRAKES. I'M JUST HAPPY THAT I WAS NOT ON ROAD. PLEASE REVIEW, THIS A DANGEROUS ISSUE,WHICH MAY CAUSE LIVES.

A SECONDARY DIAGNOSTIC FOUND A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
DECEMBER 2018 ENGINE LIGHT COME ON 99,000 MILES HAVE ENGINE LIGHT CHECK CODE P0420 WEEK LATER LIGHT OFF.HAD A OIL CHANGE DONE 103,37 TWO WEEK LATER ADD 3 QT OF OIL.EVERY TIME I DO A OIL CHANGE WEEK OR TWO ADD 3 QT OF OIL.TOOK IT TO KIA IN FEB THEY SAY I NEED A NEW CAT CONVERTERS.MONTH LATER I GET A RECALL ON THIS CAR.I HAVE MY OIL CHANGE RECIPE
HAD OIL CHANGE OCTOBER 2018. DECEMBER 2018 CAR STALLED TOOK TO DEALER 2.5 QUARTS OF OIL LOW WITHOUT ANY VISABLE LEAKS. THE ROD WAS THROWN IN VEHICLE. MECHANICS THEORY WAS THE ENGINE BURN UP THE OIL AND BLEW ROD. THE ENGINE IS A 2.0 6 CYL ENGINE. THE SAME CAR WITH A 1.7 ENGINE WAS RECALLED FOR THE ABOVE PROBLEM.
I bought this vehicle new (under 3k miles) from the dealer Kiefer Kia. The very next day I brought the car back as there were obvious problems with it immediately. The car would hesitate, almost as if it were about to die, while driving or even sitting at a light. When I took it in the repair person heard the problem but said "that's normal for a new car". I wanted to reopen the car but they said there were no returns. I came in 2 other times. On the 4th time they finally replaced the computer. It did nothing to fix the problem but from that time I had electrical problems. They denied the electrical problems. 2 more visits they replaced the computer again and some other recall. Both problems continued. I've had to replace the battery more than once a year. It still hesitates but covid happened and now I'm in a wheel chair and have problems getting around so brining it in is even more difficult. I don't trust any more repairs they're doing I just want my money back. I stopped driving it on the highway as I'm to afraid of the engine catching fire with how it eats oil. If I want to go out of town I have to rent a car!
RIGHT SIDE HEAD LIGHT WILL NOT ALWAYS GO ON ( I DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO WORK) , I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED BY MECHANIC ALSO/ THERE IS NO SPECIFIC TIME OF WHEN MY LIGHT WILL WORK OR NOT . THIS IS NOT NORMAL.
TAKATA RECALL THE ENGINE KNOCKS AFTER 60K. IT STARTED LIKE A FAN HITTING A PIECE OF PLASTIC, BUT AFTER A WEEK- ESPECIALLY WHEN I RUN THE HEAT OR AIR, IT GETS EXTREMELY LOUD). NOW IT'S LOUD ALL OF THE TIME. I GET MY OIL CHANGED REGULARLY AND THEY COULDN'T EVEN FIGURE IT OUT. MY ENGINE GETS HOT SOMETIMES I WAS WONDERING IF YOU GET A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THAT. EVEN THOUGH I GOT THE OVERHEATING UNDER CONTROL, THE FAN STILL BLOWS SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER BEING PARKED LIKE IT'S HOT. TAKATA RECALL
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THE CAR MADE A SOUND LIKE A BLOWN TIRE. I PULLED OVER ONLY TO FIND THAT IT WAS ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO SOUNDS, NO CUES NO WARNING LIGHTS. TOTAL LOSS BY THE TIME FIRE DPT GOT THERE, NOTHING BUT A FRAME.
ON 11/19/18 OUR 2015 KIA SOUL WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AT APPROX 4:30 PM AFTER ARRIVING HOME FROM WORK, 4 HOURS LATER IN EVENING WHILE WATCHING TV AT APPROX 8:33PM WE HEARD A LOUD POP OUTSIDE, WE BOTH RAN TO FRONT DOOR TO SEE THE KIA SOUL FRONT END INGULFED IN FLAMES RISING SO HIGH HITTING ROOF OF OUR GARAGE. I CALLED 911 WHILE BACKING OUR OTHER CAR OUT OF DRIVEWAY AWAY FROM FLAMES, WHILE MY HUSBAND TRIED TO PUT OUT FIRE WITH EXTINGUSER AND WATER HOSE. THE FIREMEN ARRIVED AND FINISHED PUTTING OUT FIRE BUT KIA SOUL WAS TOTALED. KIA DEALERSHIP IN SARASOTA FL HAS NOT OFFERED ANY HELP OR ANSWERS. WE WENT ONLINE AND SEE WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THESE KIAS BURSTING INTO FLAMES...THE MANUFACTURER HAS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! DAMAGE TO OUR HOME WAS ALSO DONE MELTING STUCCO, CHARING GARAGE DOOR AND CEMENT DRIVEWAY WHERE CAR BURNED. OUR HOME IS ONLY 1-1/2 YEARS OLD!
HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED AFTER HAVING VEHICLE IN MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THE ENGINE VIBRATION ON 8/18/2018. CAR CONTINUED TO VIBRATE. TOOK CAR TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE RECOMMENDED FUEL INJECTION AND OIL CHANGE. I HAD THIS WORK PERFORMED IN SEPTEMBER 2018. DROVE VEHICLE AND MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED OVER AND NOTICED CAR WAS EXTREMELY LOW ON OIL. ADDED OIL AND DROVE TO FIND A PARTS STORE TO HAVE PUT ON A MACHINE AND NEVER MADE IT. CAR STARTED HESITATING AND SQUEALING AND I PULLED OVER AND HAD IT TOWED. ON WEDNESDAY 11/7/18 THE BUBBLING NOISE WAS VETY LOUD, THEN A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO KIA DEALERSHIP THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO LOOK AT IT. TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE THEY CONNECTED IT, IT WAS THROWING P0014. I TOLD KIA WHAT CODE IT WAS THROWING THEY TOLD ME IT WAS OKAY TO KEEP DRIVING IT TILL FRIDAY WHEN THEY COULD LOOK AT IT. THURSDAY 11/8/18 MORNING I DROVE 6.2 MILES BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SHUT OFF AND THE LOUD KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE STARTED. TRAILERED SOUL INTO DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IT DROPPED A VALVE BUT THE HEAD WAS FINE. THEY SAID IT WAS THROWING THE P0014 CODE WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, BUT THE OCV WAS WORKING PER KIA MECHANIC.

NEED ENGINE REPLACED. USING AT LEAST 1QT OF OIL OR MORE EVERY FEW HUNDRED MILES. HAVING TO REPLACE COIL PACKS. SMELL BURNING PERIODICALLY . HAVE BEEN TOLD BY LOU SAAB KIA THAT KIA QUIT REPLACING ENGINES A FEW MONTHS AGO. THAT TELLS ME THEY HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINES. KNOW OTHERS WHO ARE HAVING TO REPLACE COIL PACKS & ARE BURNING OIL ALSO.
CAR WON'T START WHEN COLD. IT HAPPENED WHEN IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME OVER 3 OR 4 HOURS. CAN BE JUMPED TO START ,AND IF I CHARGE IT OVER NIGHT IT WILL START 2 OR 3 TIMES BUT WILL THEN NOT START. WHEN TRYING TO START IT MAKES A SERIES OF CLICKS AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL FLICKER. THE CONTACT CALLED BONIFACE HIERS KIA AT 321-951-9595 (LOCATED AT 880 S APOLLO BLVD, MELBOURNE, FL 32901) AND WAS INFORMED TO CALL THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD BE INVESTIGATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

I WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED AND I NOTICED A STRANGE NOISE. I WAS GOING UP A HILL AND EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER AND THE NOISE GOT WORSE. I PULLED OVER AND SAW THE OIL LIGHT FLICKERING BELOW 1500 RPM SO I SHUT IT DOWN. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND CHECKED THE OIL. THE OIL WAS FULL. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP TO DIAGNOSE AND THEY TOLD ME AN INTERNAL ENGINE COMPONENT HAS FAILED AND THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. I HAD IT TOWED TO A KIA DEALERSHIP TO CONFIRM. I RECEIVED THE SAME DIAGNOSIS. THE CAR HAS 65K MILES ON IT AND REQUIRES A NEW ENGINE. THE CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AND WAS NOT NEGLECTED. I REACHED OUT TO KIA FOR ASSISTANCE AND THEY ARE UNWILLING TO ASSIST. THEY HAVE ALSO DISCONTINUED THE LONG BLOCK ENGINE REPLACEMENT SO THE REPAIR COSTS MORE NOW. THERE SEEMS TO BE A SHORTAGE OF THE 2.0L ENGINE SO IT ISN'T AVAILABLE FROM REBUILD SHOPS OR JUNKYARDS. I SUSPECT THAT THE HIGH RATE OF FAILURE OF THE 2.0L ENGINE IS TO BLAME FOR THE SHORTAGE.

THE AIR AND HEAT STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. I TOOK IT TO ARAPAHOE KIA IN CENTENNIAL, CO. THEY TOLD ME THE BLOWER MOTOR HAD FAILED. I HAD ANOTHER SHOP LOOK AT IT AND THEY TOLD ME THE WIRING TO THE BLOWER MOTOR HAD COMPLETELY MELTED. IT LOOKS LIKE THERE WAS A SHORT THAT LIT THE WIRES ON FIRE. LUCKILY, IT DID NOT IGNITE THE WHOLE CAR LIKE SOME OTHER CASES.

A 35 MINUTE DRIVE TOOK ME A HOUR AND A HALF BECAUSE THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO GET HOME BUT THE INTERSTATE. 9/1/18 I STARTED THE CAR, DROVE IT A COUPLE MILES, GOING TO THE DEALER, IT STARTED KNOCKING, ALMOST STALLING, OIL LIGHT FLICKERING AND THEN DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. HAD IT TOWED TO KIA OF RIVERGATE. 9/5/18 THEY ASK FOR ALL MY OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS, WHICH I DON'T HAVE BECAUSE I GET THEM WHERE EVER I HAVE A COUPON FOR.(I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO BACK TRACK AND GET THE RECORDS) MAC, AT THE DEALERSHIP) TELLS ME THERE IS "SLUDGE" AND THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE MAINTENANCE WAS NOT DONE. MY CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD, 112,000 MILES AND MY AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR WENT OUT. THE FIX IS OVER $800. I HAVE OWNED 6 CARS IN MY LIFETIME AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN, I'VE NEVER EVEN RAN OUT OF FREON IN MY CARS.

ALL THE GAUGES SHOWED NORMAL. I PULLED OVER THINKING I MAY HAVE PICKED UP SOMETHING UNDER MY CAR. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER AND EXAMINED UNDER THE CAR AND SAW NOTHING. I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND CHANGED MY DESTINATION TO THE KIA DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR. I NOTICED THE NOISE INCREASING AND IT SEEMED AS IF THE ENGINE LOST LOST COMPRESSION. I THEN TURNED ON MY FLASHERS TO ALERT THE DRIVERS BEHIND ME. ABOUT THIS TIME THE LCD SCREEN TURNED WHITE AND HAD THE MESSAGE THAT THE SYSTEM MAY HAVE RECEIVED AN ERROR MESSAGE FROM THE ENGINE AND NOTED THAT I SHOULD GET TO A KIA DEALER ASAP. THE SCREEN THEN WENT BLANK. I DROVE FOR ABOUT ANOTHER HALF A MILE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE DIED. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER AND I NOTICE "STEAM" COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. UPON OPENING THE HOOD I SAW THE STEAM WAS SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE SHOOTING FROM THE TOP OF THE ENGINE, FROM UNDER THE OIL CAP. I TOOK A BLANKET FROM THE BACK OF MY CAR TO BEAT OUT THE FLAMES AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. AT THAT TIME I GOT AWAY FROM THE CAR AND DIALED 911. AT THAT TIME A TRUCKER HAD PULLED OVER AND CAME RUNNING BACK WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND DOUSED THE FLAMES. A FIRE TRUCK ARRIVED AND WROTE A REPORT WHICH I DO NOT HAVE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO SONS KIA OF MCDONOUGH, GA.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
