2007 MAZDA CX-7 WITH 44,000 MILES AND THE AC COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP AND LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ENGINE BEGAN TO SMOKE AND SMELL LIKE BURNING RUBBER WITH NO ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS OR SIGNS OF TROUBLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD APRIL 10, 2010, IN MY 2007 MAZDA CX 7 WHEN THE A/C STARTED BLOWING HOT AIR, NEXT THING I KNEW PEOPLE ARE FLAGGING ME DOWN AND TELLING ME MY CAR IS ON FIRE! THE CAR WAS NOT ON FIRE, JUST VERY HOT AND SMOKING WITH A VERY BAD BURNING SMELL. DEALERSHIP SAID A/C COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP WHICH CAUSED OTHER DAMAGE. DEALERSHIP SAID "THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF PROBLEMS WITH A/C COMPRESSOR". LOW AND BEHOLD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUES, BETWEEN 30 - 50K MILES, SOME EVEN LOSING POWER STEERING OR COMPLETE OPERATION OF THEIR VEHICLES DUE TO A/C COMPRESSOR FAILURE. MAZDA HAS NOT RECALLED? THIS IS A PROBLEM AND IT MAY COST SOMEONE THEIR LIFE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE... *TR
PULLED INTO A GAS STATION, ONCE PLACED IN PARK POSITION, NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM PASSENGERS FRONT SIDE. OPENED THE HOOD AND SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. DROVE HOME (5 MINS) AND LEFT UNTIL I RETURNED CAR TO DEALERSHIP. ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP, THE AIR COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP AND THE RADIATOR CAP WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE ARE REPLACING RADIATOR CAP AND REPLACING AIR COMPRESSOR WITH BELT. *TR
DRIVING ON FREEWAY AND A/C BEGAN TO BLOW HOT. SMOKE AND BURNT RUBBER SMELL COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST BUT WAS STILL ABLE TO BARELY STEER VEHICLE TO SIDE OF FREEWAY. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO SHOP. A/C COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP AND DESTROYED DRIVE BELT. HAD COMPRESSOR REPLACED AND IT FAILED 20 MILES LATER, BEFORE I EVEN GOT HOME. HAVE TO REPLACE IT AGAIN. COMPRESSOR FAILURE IS A SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. *TR
I DID ALL MY MAZDA CX7 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE, I PAID A LOT FOR IT. THEN MY CAR STARTED MAKING NOISES, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER SO MANY TIMES AND THEY SAID THAT THE NOSE WAS NORMAL BECAUSE ITS A TURBO CAR. ONE DAY, RUNNING AT APROX 40 M/H MY CAR LOWER THE SPEED AT NO MORE THAT 20 M/H, IT WAS SUNDAY AFTERNOON SO I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC (MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY) AROUND 68 K MILES. THE PROBLEM WAS THE TIMING CH. AFTER WAS SOME FIXED, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY STAYED WITH THE CAR 21 DAYS ( I PAID FOR THE RENT A CAR) THEY TOLD ME THAT WAS ABOUT SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND THEY NEEDED TO WAIT FOR THE PART, SO THEY CHANGED IT BUT IT WASN'T THAT PART, SO THEY PUT EVERYTHING BACK AND SAID THAT WAS THE ENGINE. I INSTALLED A NEW ONE IN ANOTHER MAZDA DEALER PAYING CLOSED TO $8K . ITS NOT FEAR. PLEASE HELP. MY STORY IS LONGER BUT I MADE SHORT. THANK YOU. *TR
2007 MAZDA CX-7 STARTED MAKING A GRINDING SOUND FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, WITH SMOKE BELLOWING FROM THE ENGINE. COME TO FIND OUT THAT THE A/C PUMP AND OR COMPRESSOR HAS SUDDENLY SEIZED CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND VEHICLE ITSELF. *TR
AN EXCESS OF WHITE SMOKE EMITTED FROM EXHAUST UPON ACCELERATION AFTER A BRIEF PERIOD OF IDLE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A FAULTY TURBO CHARGER WAS TO BLAME. SO THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 7 DAYS WHILE THEY REPLACED THE TURBO. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE CAR WOULDN'T START AFTER SITTING IN A HEATED GARAGE OVERNIGHT. IT SOUNDED AS THOUGH THE CYLINDERS WEREN'T FIRING PROPERLY. CAR WAS TOWED TO MECHANIC WHO IDENTIFIED ISSUE AS FOULED CYLINDER HEADS FROM PRIOR FAILURE OF TURBO. THIS TIME THE ENTIRE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. AGAIN THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR APPROXIMATELY SEVEN DAYS. SOME MONTHS LATER AN OPPRESSIVE AMOUNT OF ROAD NOISE APPEARED AT ALL SPEEDS ON ALL ROAD SURFACES. WE WERE DIRECTED THAT THE TIRES WERE TO BLAME. AFTER REPLACING ALL 4 TIRES AT A COST OF NEARLY $800 THE SOUND PERSISTED. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS ON THE REAR WHEELS HAD FAILED ALLOWING WATER TO SEEP IN AND RUST REAR WHEEL BEARINGS. ALL FOUR WHEEL BEARINGS WHERE REPLACED. TODAY THE VEHICLE IS AGAIN IN FOR ENGINE REPAIR TO REPLACE THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND A DEAD BATTERY. AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR 18 MONTHS IT IS HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR A TOTAL OF APPROXIMATELY 4 WEEKS. *TR
2007, MAZDA CX-7, 40,000 MILES (4,000 OUT OF WARRANTY) THE AIR COMPRESSOR STOPPED WORKING. SPEWED ONLY HOT AIR. I HAD IT AT THE DEALER AT 32,000 MILES FOR A COMPRESSOR/BELT SQUEAK. DEALER FOUND "NOTHING UNUSUAL". FOUR DAYS NOW WITH OUT THE CAR AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. *TR
2007 MAZDA CX-7 - 39 MONTHS OLD WITH 35,000 MILES, THE AIR CONDITIONING A/C COMPRESSOR CAUGHT ON FIRE, MELTED THE COMPRESSOR AND MADE THE CAR SMOKE, HAD TO STOP THE CAR AND WAIT TO BE TOWED BACK HOME. SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM HAPPENING TO A LOT OF OTHER CX-7 OWNERS. WOULD LIKE FOR MAZDA TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND PAY FOR ANY PARTS AND REPAIRS ON THIS MATTER. *TR
I JUST GOT A MAZDA CX 7 4 MONTHS AGO. THE A/C SYSTEM IS FRIED. THE FACTORY WARRANTY WAS NO GOOD AND I HAVE TO PAY$1900. PLEASE I AM READ THESE ARTICLES AND DO NOT BUY. *TR
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2007 MAZDA CX-7 A FEW YEARS AGO, AND OVER THE LAST THREE MONTHS IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP WITH MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. FROM AN OIL LEAK, TO A BAD COMPRESSOR, THEN THE TIMING CHAIN GONE BAD AND NOW ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE EGR. THE CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 38K MILES AND TO ME IT SEEMS VERY ODD FOR A CAR BEING THIS YOUNG IN MILES, TO HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS SUCH AS THESE. AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH THE MAZDA CORPORATE OFFICE, THEY FIRST AGREED TO PAY FOR THE PARTS FOR MY LATEST PROBLEMS SINCE I'M NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. I WAS FINE WITH THAT UNTIL I FOUND OUT THE LABOR WAS OVER $500 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. WHEN I CALL THE CORPORATE OFFICE TO TRY TO DISCUSS SPLITTING THE LABOR COSTS, THEIR SUPERVISOR CONTACTED ME BACK WITH AN ATTITUDE LIKE I DID SOMETHING WRONG AND DECIDED THEY WERE NOW NOT GOING TO HELP AT ALL. THAT IS JUST POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE BEHIND A VEHICLE THAT WAS NOT READY TO BE PUT ON OUR US ROADWAYS. IN MY OPINION, THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED. I OWN A 2007 MAZDA CX7 THAT THE A/C COMPRESSOR SEIZED UP ON CAUSING A NEAR FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. I HEARD AN AWFUL NOISE AND SAW SMOKE BILLOWING UNDER THE HOOD. I SHUT IT DOWN IMMEDIATELY KNOWING THAT WHAT WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN COULDN'T BE GOOD. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY CX7S NOW THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT BECAUSE I'VE OWNED THIS FOR 37 MONTHS, (35,000 MILES) THAT IT ISN'T COVERED BY THE 60,000 MILE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY, (IF I CAN'T DRIVE IT, ITS A DRIVETRAIN PROBLEM TO ME)...THIS NEEDS TO BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT..OR A RECALL YOU'RE CHOICE. *TR
NO EVENTS OR WARNING LEADING TO FAILURE. A/C COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP AT 53K MI. JUST QUIT WORKING, HOT RUBBER SMELL COMING FROM ENGINE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A SNOW-PACKED INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR AHEAD OF ME STOPPED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY. MY SPEED WAS ABOUT 25 MPH. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM IMMEDIATELY RESPONDED, BUT MY SPEED DID NOT DIMINISH APPROPRIATELY. I STRUCK THE CAR AHEAD. ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, I TRIED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO CONTINUE WITH LITTLE OR NO BRAKE FORCE ACTUALLY BEING APPLIED. THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM SEEMED OVERLY SENSITIVE. *TR
TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND DAMAGED ENGINE MAZDA CX-7 - 2007. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AT HIGHWAY SPEED, NOISE STARTED TO COME FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SEEMED TO COME AND GO, BUT SUDDENLY SMELLED SMOKE AND LOST POWER STEERING. NEARLY HAD A HEAD ON COLLISION. THIS WAS A VERY SERIOUS NEAR MISS. MANAGED TO GET CAR TO NEIGHBORHOOD CAR REPAIR SHOP. AFTER INSPECTION, CAUSE WAS DETERMINED TO BE SEIZED A/C COMPRESSOR THAT LED TO CASCADING FAILURES. COST TO REPAIR ALL DAMAGE WAS $2250. I HAVE SINCE READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE ON MAZDA CX-7 AND STILL NO RECALL? I WILL BE SENDING A CLAIM TO MAZDA USA AND WOULD ALSO BE INTERESTED IN JOINING ANY CLASS ACTION SUITE TO RECOUPE ALL MY COSTS AND TO FORCE MAZDA USA TO MAKE A RECALL. FAMILY'S LIVES ARE AT STAKE. *TR
A/C COMPRESSOR AND/OR CLUTCH SEIZES-UP AND CAUSES CASCADE FAILURE OF BELT DRIVEN ACCESSORIES WITH LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS HAPPENED SUDDENLY AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND IS CONSIDERED A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT. I SEARCHED THE NHTSA SITE AND FOUND MORE THAN 50+ OTHER SUCH COMPLAINTS. AC COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP CAUSING CAR TO STALL IN MIDDLE OF STREET AND SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING WE HEARD A NOISE FROM THE ENGINE, WE WERE ABOUT A MILE FROM OUR DESTINATION. WHEN WE PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT WE SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHEN MY HUSBAND OPENED THE HOOD, WE SAW FLAMES. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 AND RAN TO THE BUILDING TO PROCURE A FIRE EXTINGUSHER. WE WERE ABLE TO LOCATE ONE AND MY HUSBAND PUT OUT THE FIRE. WE WERE TOLD BY THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP THAT THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH HAD FAILED, CAUSING THE FIRE. WE HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE, UNFORTUNATELY, IT ONLY COVERED TO 60,000 MILES AND THE VEHICLE HAD 61,000 MILES. THE SERVICE MANAGER SUGGESTED THAT WE SHOULD FILE A CLAIM ON OUR INSURANCE, BUT SINCE WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET A DETAILED ESTIMATE ON THE DAMAGES, WE HAVEN'T PROCEEDED THAT FAR YET. THEY HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR THREE DAYS AND THERE IS NO COMPLETE INFORMATION ON THE DAMAGES. *TR
APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS AGO, I NOTICED INCREASING DIFFICULTY MANEUVERING MY CAR AND TWO WEEKS AGO, AS I TURNED ONTO MY STREET, (TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH), MY CAR ACTUALLY SLID ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND INTO THE CURB ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET. FORTUNATELY, NO PEDESTRIANS WERE NEARBY AND NEITHER MY CAR NOR I SUSTAINED ANY INJURY. CURIOUS AS TO WHY THIS WOULD HAVE OCCURRED, MY HUSBAND INVESTIGATED AND MUCH TO OUR DISMAY, WE DISCOVERED THAT MY BRIDGESTONE TURANZA TIRES ' WITH JUST 18,800 MILES ON THEM ' WERE BALD EXCEPT FOR THE GROOVES THAT RUN ALONG THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRE. AT THIS TIME, WE CALLED TWO AREA BRIDGESTONE DEALERS WHO JOINTLY CONSENTED THAT THE TIRE HAD NO TREAD WEAR WARRANTY WHICH FURTHER SERVED TO REINFORCE THE FACT THAT BRIDGESTONE IS AWARE THAT THE TURANZA IS A POOR QUALITY TIRE NOT WORTHY OF WARRANTY. WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT THE POOR STATE OF THE TIRES AFTER JUST 18,800 MILES, THEY INDICATED, THAT OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT THE TURANZA WAS A 'CHEAP' TIRE (THEIR SPECIFIC VERBIAGE), IT COULD ALSO BE DUE TO POOR DRIVER HABITS OR AN OUT-OF-ALIGNMENT VEHICLE OR BOTH. BECAUSE I AM THE SOLE DRIVER OF MY VEHICLE AND COMMUTE JUST 21 MILES ROUND-TRIP TO MY JOB VIA A STATE-MAINTAINED ROAD WITH A MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT OF 50 MPH, POOR DRIVER HABITS IS ELIMINATED. FURTHERMORE, INVESTIGATION ALSO REVEALED THAT THE CAR WAS, IN FACT, NOT OUT-OF-ALIGNMENT, AS WE HAVE NOW REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES ON THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS FINE. FRANKLY, WE FIND IT NOTHING SHORT OF DESPICABLE THAT BRIDGESTONE CONTINUES TO SELL THESE TIRES WHEN FULLY AWARE OF ITS POOR QUALITY AND IT IS PARTICULARLY DISHONORABLE THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO RISK PEOPLES' LIVES BECAUSE THEY ARE UNKNOWINGLY DRIVING ON INFERIOR, NON-WARRANTED TIRES. *TR
2007 MAZDA CX-7 - A/C COMPRESSOR WENT OUT ON WAY HOME FROM FL TO ATL. WHITE SMOKE FROM RIGHT SIDE ENGINE BAY. WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF A/C IN TIME TO KEEP VEHICLE RUNNING. SEEMS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MAZDA. $900 TO REPLACE PARTS AND LABOR. MAZDA OF ROSWELL STATES ISSUE WAS UNKNOWN TO THEM. MAZDA USA IS AWARE AS WELL AS ALL THE FORUMS AND THIS SITE AS WELL FROM OTHER CUSTOMERS. MANY CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES. SOME WITHIN THE 36K BTB WARRANTY, SOME AFTER. POWERTRAIN IS UP TO 60K. WITH THIS BEING A KNOWN ISSUE, SHOULDN'T THIS BE A RECALL IF IT IS A PROBLEM THAT WILL OCCUR ON MOST 2007 CX-7'S WITH THE PART? I HAVE EMAILED MAZDA USA AS WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MAZDA CX7. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD NOISE AND THEN SMOKE WAS CAME FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. SHE THEN PULLED OVER TO A MECHANIC SHOP. SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENGINES OIL LEVEL WAS DEPLETED. HOWEVER SHE WAS NOT SCHEDULED FOR ANOTHER OIL CHANGE UNTIL THE 25TH OF DECEMBER . THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TURBO FAILED IN HER VEHICLE . THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. CAR'S A/C STOPPED WORKING AND SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE. THEN THE CAR STALLED AND THE CONTROL VIA POWER STEERING WENT NON-EXISTENT. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2007 CX-7 WITH APPROXIMATELY 28K MILES ALONG A FOUR LANE MAJOR ROAD WHEN CAR LOST POWER AND BECAME BASICALLY UNDRIVEABLE. LEAVING HER SITTING ON A EXTREMELY BUSY SECTION OF ROAD WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK SEAT AS PEOPLE ARE FLYING OFF AN ENTRANCE RAMP FROM ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND. SHE FOUGHT IT TO THE SHOULDER OF US ROUTE 40 NORTH OF BALTIMORE, LEAVING HER IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. MAZDA DEALERSHIP WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WAS LESS THAN A HALF MILE FROM FAILURE LOCATION AND AFTER TRAFFIC HAD DIED DOWN I WAS ABLE TO LIMP VEHICLE TO DEALER WITH WIFE FOLLOWING ME AT 10 MPH. TURBOCHARGER FAILURE HAS BEEN BLAMED, AS USUAL MAZDA HAS DENIED WARRANTY WORK DUE TO ENGINE SLUDGE, EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED. AFTER THOROUGH RESEARCH FOR THE LAST MONTH, WHILE MY VEHICLE HAS SAT AT THE DEALERSHIP, VIA MANY WEBSITES EDMUNDS FORUM, MYCX7.COM, MAZDAS247.COM ETC. MAZDA IS CLAIMING SAME ENGINE SLUDGE IS CAUSE OF FAILURE OF NUMEROUS TIMING CHAINS, TURBOS, VVT ACTUATORS ETC. EVEN ON VEHICLES THAT HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED BY THEIR DEALERSHIPS. THERE HAS BEEN A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN RELEASED BY MAZDA (TSB# MTOL - 5505) THAT STATED THE FLAWED DESIGN OF THEIR PCV SYSTEM NOT ALLOWING OIL TO DRAIN PROPERLY FROM THE TURBOCHARGER. NO FIX HAS BEEN MADE AVAILABLE WITH RECENT INFORMATION I HAVE READ IN REGARDS TO THE FLAWED PCV NOT CIRCULATING THE OIL. HOPE SOMEONE CAN BRING THIS FLAWED DESIGN ENGINE TO LIGHT BEFORE SOMEONE OR A FAMILY IS KILLED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT WHERE THEIR CAR LEAVES THEM STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY LIKE I-95. I HAVE A MAZDA CX-7 2007. IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS I HAD TO REPLACE AC CONDENSER TWICE. IT LOCKED UP AND STARTED SMOKING. AND THE CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE. NOW THEY HAVE 300 BACK ORDERS FOR THIS PART BEFORE I CAN FIX MY CAR. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER LIGHT CAME ON, NO POWER WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDDLE. SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED ENGINE. LIGHT STILL ON BUT HAD POWER. DROVE TO REPAIR SHOP AND HAD ENGINE DIAGNOSED. THROTTLE BODY HAD TO BE REPLACE. OLD PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
I GOT INTO A MAZDA FORUM WHERE MANY COSTUMERS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING CLUTCH FAILURE (SEIZED) LOOSING POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. TURBO FAILURE, CAUSING ENGINE OVERHEATING. TIMING BELT FAILURE. I CAN NOT FIND ANY RECALLS ABOUT THESE FAILURES. *TR

DEALER SAID IT WAS A DIRTY CABIN FILTER. 53,951 MILES SUDDEN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR AND CLUTCH. HEAVY SMOKE AND BURNING ODOR FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT WIFE AND KIDS EVACUATED WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS A BURNING CAR ON A BUSY STREET. IT WOULD BE A LITTLE EASIER TOO SWALLOW IF IT WAS JUST ONE PART BUT NO IT USUALLY ENDS IN MOST OF THE SYSTEM BEING REPLACED! THE MAZDA TECH TOLD US THAT THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH ASSEMBLY FAILED/IMPLODED AND WAS IN FACT GLOWING RED/BURNING INSIDE THE HOUSING. THIS LEFT US STRANDED AT THE MOTEL, AND UPON OPENING MY HOOD - THERE WAS COOLANT ALL OVER THE ENGINE BAY AND THERE WERE SHREDS OF RUBBER FROM THE BELTS THAT HAD SNAPPED OFF. THE SHREDDED BELTS WERE STILL SITTING INSIDE THE ENGINE BAY, AND EVERYTHING WAS STILL SMOKING. THE CAP HAD POPPED OFF OF THE RADIATOR, WHICH IS WHY THERE WAS A COOLANT MESS EVERYWHERE. WE HAVE A 2007 MAZDA CX-7. WE WERE DRIVING HOME FROM CAMPING AND STARTED TO SMELL THIS HORRIBLE BURNING RUBBER SMELL COMING FROM THE TRUCK. AFTER A FEW MINS I STARTED SEEING SMOKE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HOOD. AT THAT TIME OUR FRIENDS CALLED US. WE HAD THEM FOLLOWING FROM CAMPING. THEY SAID THEY SEEN ALOT OF SMOKE AND SMELLED SOMETHING BAD. WE GOT OFF AT FEDERAL WAY AND PULLED INTO A SHELL STATION TO LOOK AND GET GAS. MY HUSBAND LIFTS THE HOOD AND THERE IS A SMALL FIRE AND LOTS MORE SMOKE COMING FROM THE A/C COMPRESSOR. HE THEN NOTICES THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT IS ALMOST MELTED THREW. SO WE PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT AND OUT OF THE WAY WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND SNAP. THE BELT CAME OFF. SO WE HAD TO CALL MAZDA ROADSIDE SERVICE AND GET IT TOWED TO THE AUBURN DEALERSHIP. IT WAS SUNDAY NIGHT SO WE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL MONDAY MORNING TO CALL. WE HAD OUR 3 YEAR OLD SON WITH US. WE THOUGHT WE WERE BUYING A SAFE CAR AND WOULDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH SOMETHING LIKE A SMALL FIRE WITH 2007 SAFEST VEHICLE OF THE YEAR. NOW IT TURNS OUT OUR WARRANTY ENDED 2,000 MILES AGO WE HAVE 38,000 AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO TO HELP, OTHER THAN SAY ITS 1500 TO FIX YOUR CAR. WE ARE A SINGLE FAMILY INCOME AND THAT'S ALOT OF MONEY TO COME UP WITH. I HAVE FOUND OUT THERE ARE A HUNDRED OR SO PEOPLE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ALREADY? IT OBVIOUSLY CAUSES SMALL FIRES AND IS NOT SAFE FOR CHILDREN. PLEASE CONSIDER RECALLING THE A/C COMPRESSORS, CLUTCH PACKS, AND SERPENTINE BELTS. MAZDA MUST KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM. VEHICLE DRIVING ON ROUTE 95 SOUTH AT 60-65 MPH LOST POWER IMMEDIATELY FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON. DRIVER ABLE TO GET CAR TO BREAKDOWN LANE WITHOUT POWER. UNABLE TO START VEHICLE. VEHICLE TOWED 100 MILES TO SERVICE STATION. DETERMINATION TIMING CHAIN BROKE AT 72,000 MILES. DEALER REPLACE TIMING CHAIN. UNSUCCESSFUL. NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. NEW ENGINE ORDERED. PARTS ARE AT DEALERSHIP. POTENTIAL FOR INJURY OR DEATH WAS VERY GREAT DUE TO RATE OF SPEED TRAVELING ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE AND SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER OF THE VEHICLE. I DRIVE A 2007 MAZDA CX-7. DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, I NOTICED MY AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOT AS COLD AS IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN. I PULLED OFF THE INTERSTATE AND CAME TO A STOP WHERE I NOTICED WHITE SMOKE FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY HOOD, I HEARD A LOUD AND UNPLEASANT NOISE AS WELL AS A HORRIBLE SMELL COMING FROM MY CAR. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR BACK TO MY RESIDENCE; HOWEVER, AFTER TURNING MY CAR OFF IT WOULD NO LONGER START. I HAD TO TOW MY CAR TO THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. TURNS OUT THE AIR COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THE AIR COMPRESSOR IS $900+. MY CAR HAS NOT YET TURNED 40,000 MILES. AFTER A COUPLE INTERNET SEARCHES (WWW.EDMUNDS.COM) IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THIS INSTANCE OF THE AIR COMPRESSOR LOCKING UP AND MAKING THE AUTOMOBILE UNUSABLE IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY PARTICULAR MODEL AND YEAR CAR. ALL OF THE SITUATIONS I READ ABOUT WERE ALSO ON CARS WITH LOW MILEAGE. *TR
