EXCESSIVE FRONT BRAKE REPLACEMENT, LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY ALMOST HIT TWO PEOPLE, DOES NOT STOP RIGHT AWAY WHEN BRAKES ARE PRESSED. TGE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL ON ITS OWN AND HIT MY NEIGHBORS PROPERTY AFTER VEING PARKED FOR DAYS.THESE ARE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE LOOKED AT. I CAN NOT AFFORD A DIFFERENT VEHICLE RIGHT NOW SO I'M STUCK. I'M AFRAID EVERYDAY I DRIVE THE VEHICLE THAT MY KIDS AND I WILL CRASH DUE TO THESE SERIOUS ISSUES. I TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS EITHER. AS I'M READING I SEE IT VERY WELL MAY BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH THEN BECOMES A LIABILITY TO THE MANUFACTURER IF WE ARE HARMED DUE TO THESE BRAKING ISSUES.
APPROXIMATELY SIX BLOCKS FROM HIS HOME, THE OWNER OF A 2000 MAZDA MPV MINIVAN WAS IN THE LEFT TURN LANE OF A HIGHWAY WAITING TO TURN LEFT. WHILE STOPPED AND WITH NO IMPACT, THE SIDE AIRBAGS SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE STRIKING THE DRIVER. THERE WERE TWO CHILDREN SEATED IN THE REAR. AS REPRESENTED IN THE ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPHS, THERE IS NO BODY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THIS AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT CAUSED SEVERE INJURIES TO THE DRIVER AND NECESSITATED HIS TRANSPORT VIA AIR AMBULANCE TO A LEVEL ONE TRAUMA CENTER. THESE INJURIES NECESSITATED SURGERY TO REPAIR A LACERATED SPLEEN AND ULTIMATELY RESULTED IN $88,537.00 IN MEDICAL BILLS. THE CLAIM WAS PRESENTED TO MAZDA, HOWEVER NORTH CAROLINA'S STATUTE OF REPOSE WOULD HAVE LIKELY PREVENTED A SUCCESSFUL SUIT. MAZDA, HOWEVER, DID CONDITION A CONFIDENTIAL SETTLEMENT OFFER TO THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE ON THE DESTRUCTION OF THE VEHICLE. PLAINTIFF REQUESTED THAT PROPER NOTIFICATION BE MADE TO NHTSA AND NO REASSURANCE WAS GIVEN THAT SUCH REPORT WAS MADE. IN LIGHT OF THE INJURIES TO THE DRIVER AND THE DEMAND MADE BY MAZDA TO DESTROY THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER, BY COUNSEL, CONSIDERS NOTIFICATION TO NHTSA APPROPRIATE. CLAIMANT WILL NOT ENGAGE IN SPOLIATION OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL NHTSA DETERMINES IF EXAMINATION OR INVESTIGATION IS NECESSARY. THE VEHICLE IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION AND WILL BE UNTIL NOTIFICATION FROM NHTSA IS RECEIVED BY THE UNDERSIGNED.
I GOT INTO MY CAR AND PLACE MY SEAT BELTS ON. I SHIFTED THE CAR IN REVERSE GEAR AND STARTED REVERSING FOR 3 SECONDS AND WITHOUT ANY IMPACT OR COLLISION TO THE CAR, THE SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND EXPLODED ON MY WHOLE LEFT CHEST WALL, ARM AND SHOULDER THROWING ME TO THE RIGHT. I WAS IN SHOCK AND DIDN'T REALIZED WHAT HAPPEN. I SOUGHT MEDICAL ATTENTION 3 TIMES AT THE HOSPITAL AND WENT TO MAKE A COMPLAINT TO THE MAZDA DEALER WHERE I PURCHASE THE CAR AT AND CHECK A CAR FAX REPORT ON THE HISTORY OF THE CAR. THERE ARE NO REPORTED ACCIDENTS ON THE CAR OR AIRBAG RECALL LETTERS SENT TO ME OR ON THE RECALL LIST. THE DEALER WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND I WAS DISSATISFIED AND THEN I CALLED THE CORPORATE MANUFACTURERS AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT EITHER BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT'S A TAKATA AIRBAG THAT PARTICULAR TAKATA AIRBAG IS NOT ON THEIR RECALL LIST. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE SEAT AIRBAG INFLATED FOR NO REASON AT ALL. EMERGENCY CARE WAS REQUIRED. CAUSED A CRACKED RIB AND SEVERE PAN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND JERKED VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE BUT ADVISED THAT AN ALIGNMENT NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 147,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND APPLIED EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN DAILY, THE ENGINE WOULD FAIL TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000.
I WAS TRYING TO START MY "NEW" USED MAZDA MPV USING ETHER SPRAYED INTO THE AIR FILTER-BOX THROUGH A SMALL HOLE, AND MY DRIVER'S-SIDE -IMPACT AIRBAG WENT OFF WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY. I WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AT THE TIME. I HAD BEEN TRYING TO START THE CAR FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, AND HAD SPRAYED "STARTING FLUID" INTO THE BOX ONE OTHER TIME SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE. THIS PROCESS HAD WORKED FOR ME TWO TIMES IN THE PAST WITH NO PROBLEM. THE STARTING FLUID WAS SPRAYED THROUGH A 1/4" HOLE I HAD DRILLED ON THE UPSTREAM SIDE OF THE AIR FILTER, BECAUSE I WAS HAVING STARTING PROBLEMS AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE FILTER BOX IN THIS CAR. I INSPECTED THE FILTER BOX FOR SIGNS OF AN EXPLOSION INSIDE, THINKING THAT MIGHT HAVE TRIGGERED THE AIRBAG, AND IT WAS INTACT; THE RETAINING CLIPS ARE NOT DISTORTED, AND THE FILTER (BRAND NEW) WAS NOT DISPLACED OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE DEPLOYMENT, BUT I MENTION IT FOR THE SAKE OF COMPLETENESS; I THINK THAT THE PARTICULAR SEQUENCE OF KEY CYCLES I USED IN TRYING TO START THE CAR SOMEHOW TRIGGERED THE AIRBAG. *TR
I PURCHASED AN MAZDA MPV IN 2007 FROM A CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHO SAID IT WAS IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. IT WAS A 2000 MODEL. AS SOON AS WINTER CAME THE O2 SENSOR ON THE REAR BANK WENT OUT. PAID $400.00 TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE. IT LASTED ONLY A SHORT TIME. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT SHOULD LAST 100.000 MILES, SO THEY REPLACED IT AND ONLY CHARGED ME ANOTHER $400.00. TO DATE I HAVE HAD THE O2 SENSOR REPLACED A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES. THE LAST TWO TIMES IT WAS AT A MAZDA DEALERSHIP. THEY ALSO TOLD ME IT SHOULD LAST 100,000 MILES. BUT EVERY TIME IT GETS BELOW 40 DEG F, IT FAILS, OR AT LEAST THE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. I HAVE SPENT A TOTAL OF $1,200.00 IN REPLACING THE SENSOR. I KEEP DOING IT BECAUSE MY WIFE USES IT TO DRIVE OUR GRANDDAUGHTER TO DANCE CLASS AND I DON'T WANT THEM TO GET STRANDED ON THE ROAD WAY. I HAVE ALREADY LOST MY AUNT'S DAUGHTER TO A ROAD SIDE KILLER AND DON'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN ONCE MORE. *TR
DRIVERS DOOR WILL NOT UNLATCH. ELECTRIC LOCK FUNCTIONS - UNLOCKING ALL OTHER DOORS. THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE HANDLE ARE EASY TO MOVE, BUT DO NOT APPEAR TO BE LINKED TO THE LATCH, SO THE DOOR WILL NOT UNLATCH AND OPEN. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SAFETY PROBLEM, AND SEVERAL REPORTS APPEAR ON MAZDA OWNER WEBSITES NOTING THE INTERNAL BAR CONNECTED TO THE LATCH MECHANISM CAN COME LOOSE, ROTATE AND UNLINK SO THE DOOR CAN'T BE UNLATCHED USING EITHER HANDLE. *TR
THE REAR SUPPORT CYLINDER THAT HOLDS UP THE REAR DOOR HAS RUSTED AROUND THE BALL AND SNAPPED IN HALF IN THAT AREA. LEAVING ONLY ONE SUPPORT ARM TO HOLD THE DOOR UP. FORTUNATELY, IT BROKE WHILE WE WERE PUTTING THE DOOR BACK DOWN, SO THERE WERE NO INJURIES. I BELIEVE THIS RUSTING OCCURRED DUE TO WATER GETTING IN THROUGH THE CRACKS OF THE DOOR FROM RAIN/WASHING, ETC. THIS HAS CAUSED THE DOOR TO BE EXTREMELY HEAVY AND THE OTHER SUPPORT CYLINDER IS NOT ABLE TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT. WE HAVE 5 CHILDREN SO THIS COULD CAUSE SOME SERIOUS INJURY IF THE DOOR WERE TO FALL CLOSED WHILE ONE OF THEM IS AROUND. I FOUND A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM FOR CANADA ONLY HOWEVER THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH US MAKES AS WELL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. HE STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE WEARING PREMATURELY. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BRAKES; HOWEVER, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 01V382000. THE BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED ACCORDINGLY. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO TAKE ANY LIABILITY FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 122,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RETRIEVE ITEMS OUT OF THE HATCHBACK, THE DOOR SPONTANEOUSLY SLAMMED ON HER BACK. SHE WAS MODERATELY INJURED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 105,000.
LEFT FRONT TIRE CAME APART OR SEPARATED. TIRE MAKE IS A YOKOHAMA AEGIS LS4 THE ENTIRE TREADED SECTION CAME APART WHILE ON FREEWAY,AND SEVERELY DAMAGE VEHICLE CAUSING THE FRONT BUMPER ,LEFT FRONT FENDER AND UNDER SKIRT, LEFT FRONT LOWER DOOR OUTER PANEL ,LEFT FRONT CORNER LIGHT AND WIRING HARNESS UNDER FENDER TO BE SEVERED. THE VEHICLE IS A 2000 MAZDA MPV.THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AFTER TRYING TO PULL OF FREEWAY BARLEY ESCAPING WITH MY LIFE. DAMAGE IS ESTIMATED TO BE APPROXIMATELY.$2000.00. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, SHE ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND WOULD NOT RESPOND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH FORCE IN ORDER TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER SHE STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DISCONNECTED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 170,000.
GOOD MORNING .MY MUFFLER SYSTEM SOUNDS LIKE AN AIRPLANE. PLEASE ASSIST ME WITH THIS PROBLEM AS I MIGHT HAVE RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS REAR HEATER WAS CORRODED AND LEAKING COOLANT. THE LEAK WAS NOTICED ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE CONTACT ORDERED TSB NUMBER 07-002/05, WHICH INDICATED THE COOLANT SEEPAGE FROM THE REAR HEATER PIPE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000. UPDATED 09/10/08. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD A COOLANT LEAK. THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE ALTERNATOR DRAINING THE BATTERY. UPDATED 09/12/08. *JB
I LOST THE TREAD ON MY TIRE ON HWY 77 NORTH OF STATESVILLE, NC. ZACK'S TOWING TOWED MY CAR TO HIS SHOP. TERRY, THE OWNER, SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE OTHER FRONT TIRE SO HE PUT ON TWO NEW TIRES. BOTH 215/65/15 ONE WITH DOT H29XYPO1 4803 AND THE OTHER DOT H29YPO1 4304. NOT THE CORRECT SIZE AND OLD TIRES. CONTACTED TERRY, HE SPOKE WITH MY STEP DAUGHTER AND SAID WE WERE FULL OF "CRAP" ABOUT ASKING FOR A REFUND AND ISSUES WITH THE TIRES AND SAFETY. THE TIRES ARE SITTING AT MY STEPDAUGHTER'S HOUSE, FOR I HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON BEFORE TRAVELING BACK TO FLORIDA- I DID NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL. I JUST LOST MY HUSBAND AND I AM 70 YEARS OLD, I DON'T THINK IT IS RIGHT TO BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AND CREATING A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE AT MY AGE OR ANY AGE. *TR
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL CAME ON AND STAYS ON INTERMITTENTLY FLASHING. *TR
THE BALL STUD THAT HOLDS THE RIGHT REAR LIFTGATE CYLINDER SNAPPED AND THE LIFTGATE CRASHED DOWN BECAUSE THE CYLINDER BECAME DISENGAGED. LUCKILY, NO CHILDREN WERE UNDER THE LIFTGATE. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE BALL STUD THAT HOLDS THE LEFT REAR LIFTGATE CYLINDER ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO. WE WERE LUCKY THERE WERE NO CHILDREN UNDER THE LIFTGATE AT THAT TIME ALSO. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM AND MAZDA WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT AS SUCH. MAZDA ALSO WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE HAD THE LEFT SIDE REPAIRED ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO, THUS INDICATING A PATTERN OF FAILURE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY FLEW UP AND STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SHOP AND REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVEN MONTHS LATER WHILE TRAVELING 25 MPH. THIS TIME THE WINDSHIELD SHATTERED. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THERE MUST BE A DEFECT WITH THE HOOD LATCH. MAZDA IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
ALL OF A SUDDEN 200 MAZDA MPV ES ON FIRE ON MARCH 1, /2008 AROUND 8:45PM WHEN THE CAR WAS ON THE PARKING LOT. *TR
REAR HATCH OF VEHICLE HAS TWO SUPPORT CYLINDERS THE FIRST ONE BROKE OFF ON THE DRIVER SIDE A YEAR AGO, HITTING MY WIFE ON THE HEAD. I REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE $75.00. THE NEXT TIME AS OF DATE BELOW THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE DOOR BROKE OFF AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE THE PART. THE METAL FATIGUED AND IT JUST SNAPPED WITHOUT WARNING. PROBLEM: DAY BEFORE MY TWO KIDS WERE SITTING ON THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE REMOVING THERE SKI BOOTS. IF AT THAT POINT THE DOOR LET GO, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. THAT DOOR IS HEAVY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE PART IS INADEQUATELY DESIGNED. IT IS A DANGEROUS HAZARD AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE LOOSES THEIR LIFE!!!!!!! IF MY WIFE HAD NOT BEEN STANDING THE DOOR WOULD HAVE HIT HER HARDER AND QUITE POSSIBLY KILLED HER. THIS IS A WAKEUP CALL FOLKS. SOME ONE IS GOING GET KILLED WITH THIS VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH,THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SKID. SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND STRUCK THE CENTER DIVIDER. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A CHIPPED TOOTH AND BOTH SHOULDERS WERE INJURED. SHE ALSO HAS PAIN IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF HER CHEST AND RIGHT HIP. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE LOCAL DEALER AND WAS INFORMED TO CONTACT HER INSURANCE COMPANY. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 98,000.
THE GAS STRUTS TO HOLD UP THE BACK HATCH KEEP BLOWING AND THE HATCH WILL FALL DOWN AND HIT YOU IN THE HEAD
LIFTGATE MECHANISM FAILURE. MY WIFE TOOK THE KIDS TO THE POOL. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE AND OPENING THE LFITGATE, WHICH BEGAN TO LIFT UPWARD, A "POP" WAS HEARD AND THE LIFT GATE CAME CRASHING BACK DOWNWARD. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS STANDING UNDER THE LIFTGATE AT THE TIME. THE BALL STUD ATTACHED TO THE DOOR AND PISTON HAD SNAPPED, CAUSING THE PISTON TO FALL FROM THE DOOR. THE WEIGHT OF THE DOOR THEN CAME CRASHING DOWN. INSPECTION OF THE STUD SHOWED A TOTAL FAILURE OF THE STUD, WHICH SNAPPED IN HALF. *JB
MY TRANSMISSION ON MPV MAZDA VAN JUST STOPPED WORKING , ONCE ON THE EXPRESSWAY. ONCE ON A TRIP. BOTH COST FOR A TOW & REPAIR .MAZDA SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. ALL OF THE MPV VANS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS AT LOW MILEAGES. SOME REPAIR SHOPS ARE REPLACING HOLE TRANS, SOME THE COILS ON THE TRANS . I FEEL THE VANS ARE UNSAFE. IT HAPPEN AGAIN ,MY VAN SITES BECAUSE I CAN'T KEEP PUTTING GOOD MONEY INTO BAD. I HOPE SOMEONE CAN PLEASE HELP THE PEOPLE AND MAKE MAZDA RECALL THE TRANSMISSIONS AND PUT THE TRANS THAT WORKS IN THE VANS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. GOD BLESS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END, THREE CAR CRASH. HER VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED AND SHE CRASHED INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE AT 25 MPH. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT HAS PHOTOS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 81,000.
COOPER TIRE FAILURE: TIRE EXPLODED WHEN TREAD AND BELTS SEPARATED WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY IN RHODE ISLAND. RUBBER FRAGMENTS DESTROYED FRONT BUMPER, FRONT LEFT FENDER,LEFT HEADLAMP/PARKING LAMP, LEFT ROCKER PANEL AND ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. VEHICLE DECLARED AS TOTALED BY INSURANCE COMPANY. FAILED TIRE HAD BEEN DRIVEN 43,200 MILES, HAD COMFORTABLE 5,000-7,000 MILES OF TREAD LIFE REMAINING, HAD BEEN ROTATED AT REGULAR INTERVALS, HAD PSI CHECKED MONTHLY, HAD BEEN REBALANCED 10 WEEKS PRIOR TO FAILURE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH FAILED TIRE. I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. THE CONTACT STATED THAT COOLANT BEGAN LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE WHEEL BEARING COVER WAS REMOVED, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE HEATING TUBING HAD RUSTED AND CONTAINED A HOLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 80,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
HAD A 2000 MAZDA MPV WITH 68,000 MILES ON IT. ALL WAS WELL UNTIL MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. A NOISE AND FUEL SMELL FOLLOWED SOON AFTER. THE VAN WAS DIAGNOSED AT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP AS HAVING BAD OR CRACKED MANIFOLDS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE COST WOULD EXCEED THE VALUE AND IT WOULD NOT BE WORTH FIXING AND TO CONSIDER TRADING. THE PRICE ESTIMATED WAS OVER $4000. I HONESTLY THINK THAT BECAUSE THIS IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE, WE SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THIS CAR DID NOT EVEN HAVE 100K MILES. *TR
THE 2000 MAZDA MPV LX WITH 51,300 MILES SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT ON FIRE ,AND THE FRONT HALF OF THE CAR WAS INCINERATED ON MAY 11, 2007. I HAD DRIVEN THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES BACK TO MY HOUSE, WHEN I WENT INSIDE TO GET A DRINK OF WATER AND CAME BACK OUT THERE WAS A BURNING, VISCOUS SUBSTANCE DRIPPING FROM UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE QUICKLY BURST INTO FLAMES, SENDING BILLOWS OF SMOKE TOWARD THE FRONT OF MY HOUSE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT OUT THE FLAMES, BUT NOT BEFORE THE CAR WAS TOTALED. THE DRIVEWAY SCORCHED, AND GARAGE DOOR DAMAGED. I PRESUMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, SO I FELT VERY LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. ALSO, IF I HADN'T PARKED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE THE FLAMES SURELY WOULD HAVE SET FIRE TO THE HOUSE. *AK
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAZDA MPV. THE CONTACT'S CIGARETTE LIGHTER DIDN'T WORK PROPERLY, IT CURRENTLY WAS NOT WORKING . THE PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS DID NOT UNLOCK WITHOUT THE CONTACT MANUALLY UNLOCKING THEM OR USING THE KEY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS FOR THE FAILURES. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A LOUD ROARING NOISE, IT BEGAN TO SHAKE AND APPEARED TO LOSE POWER, BUT NEVER STALLED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 44000. *AK
MAZDA MPV SPARE TIRE CARRIER. THIS DEVICE LOWERS AND RAISES THE SPARE WHEEL FROM UNDER THE BODY OF THE CAR. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT IS SO POORLY DESIGNED THAT IT BREAKS AFTER ONE USE. AFTER TALKING TO SALVAGE YARDS ALL THE PARTS THEY HAVE ALSO BROKE. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN TWO OF MY FAMILY CARS. ALSO THE WIRE TO LOWER THE TIRE ISN'T LONG ENOUGH SO THE TIRE CRASHES ON PERSONS HAND. *JB

ADDITIONALLY, WITH OR WITHOUT THE CHILD RESTRAINED IN THE INFANT SEAT, THE BASE SLID FROM SIDE TO SIDE WITHOUT WARNING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT WAS A DOREL JUVENILE GROUP, MODEL EDDIE BAUER, # 22-630FMT, AND THE DATE OF MANUFACTURER WAS FEBRUARY 2, 2006. *AK
2000 MPV CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TS THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE SHE WAS WAITING FOR THE PARTS FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO ARRIVE AT THE DEALER, SHE AND HER HUSBAND EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE IDLED HIGH AND FOR SEVERAL MINUTES THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN, BUT IT CONTINUED TO IDLE OVER 4000 RPM. AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS TO GET THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN, THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE OR DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER DECIDED TO LOWER THE IDLE. THE PROBLEM DID RECUR FOR A SECOND TIME. *JB
VEHICLE: 2000 MAZDA MPV LX VIN: [XXX] MILEAGE AT INCIDENT: 24,816 I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE, PURCHASED IN AUGUST, 1999 MY WIFE WAS BACKING THE VAN OUT OF OUR GARAGE, AND WHEN SHE PLACED HE FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW HER BACKING, A SNAPPING NOISE OCCURRED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. WE HAVE A 2000 MAZDA MPV VAN. MY WIFE SAID THAT THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A LOUD ROARING NOISE. I FOUND A MAZDA MPV SITE THAT INDICATED AS "SUBJECT"-FOG HORN/MOANING NOISE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT...WHICH MAY OCCUR WHEN ENGINE IS HALF-WARMED UP OR IN DECELERATION. SITE CALLS FOR IAC VALVE WITH A MODIFIED PART TO BE REPAIRED. I ASKED THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP ABOUT A POSSIBLE RECALL. THEY WERE QUICK, AND I MEAN QUICK TO SAY THAT THERE ARE NONE. I MENTIONED THAT THERE ARE TWO OTHER RECALLS DOCUMENTED ON THE CONSUMER REPORTS WEBSITE. ONE ABOUT A POSSIBLE FAILING CHILD-LOCK ON THE DOOR AND ANOTHER ONE THAT COULD RESULT IN A POSSIBLE FUEL LEAK AND SUBSEQUENT FIRE. HOW CAN MAZDA BE SO QUICK TO SAY THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS? THEY DID NOT EVEN ASK FOR MY VEHICLES VIN NUMBER. BELIEVE ME, THE SMALL COST FOR MAZDA TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM WILL PALE IN COMPARISON TO MY CHILD FALLING OUT OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO FAILING CHILD LOCKS OR TO A FIRE CAUSED BY LEAKING FUEL. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE LATCH SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE. HE TOOK THE CAR TO A CERTIFIED INSPECTION STATION IN HIS CITY ON 11-02-05 TO HAVE THE SAFETY SEAT INSPECTED AND TURNED TO FACE FORWARD. THEY TOLD HIM THEY WOULD NOT TURN THE SAFETY SEAT BECAUSE THE LATCH SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT WORK PROPERLY WITH A FORWARD FACING CHILD SEAT. THE CLIP BETWEEN THE SEATS WAS FACING FORWARD, INSTEAD OF VERTICAL, CAUSING THE SEAT BELT TO GET TWISTED AND BUNCHED UP. THIS CAUSED THE SAFETY SEAT TO LURCH FORWARD WHEN INSTALLED IN A FORWARD FACING POSITION. THE LATCH SYSTEM WILL ALLOW PROPER INSTALLATION OF A REAR FACING INFANT SEAT.*AK 11/15/05. *JB

PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR BROKE IN 2004 NOW DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR BROKEN. IN SEPTEMBER 2003, 2000 MAZDA MPV VAN (APPROX 80K MILES) WOULD NOT PASS EMISSIONS ALTHOUGH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. WAS TOLD THE VAN'S OBD SYSTEM COULD NOT COMMUNICATE WITH STATE'S EQUIPEMENT. WAS ISSUED WAIVER. ONE MONTH LATER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND O2 SENSOR WAS REPLACE PER RECOMMENDATION. FOUR DAYS LATER, LIGHT CAME BACK ON. SINCE THEN, LIGHT HAS INTERMITTENTLY GONE ON AND OFF WITH NOONE BEING ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. A STRONG ODOR HAS COME INTO THE PASSENGER AREA AND THE VAN HAS RUN ROUGH. FINALLY, IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THERE IS NO REASON A 3 1/2 - 5 YEAR OLD VAN SHOULD HAVE A CRACKED MANIFOLD. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM THE SAME ISSUE AS NOTED ON EVERY MAZDA MESSAGE BOARD. THE PART CANNOT BE PURCHASED AFTERMARKET OR EVEN USED, BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL CRACKED. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD BY OTHER GARAGES THE WELDING SUGGESTED AT THE DEALER'S SHOP IS INEFFECTIVE AND WILL NOT SOLVE THE LEAK. THE DEALER IS UNWILLING TO HELP BECAUSE THE VAN OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I AM WONDERING HOW MANY MANIFOLD FAILURES THERE HAVE TO BE, WHICH AFFECTS OUR AIR QUALITY AND CANNOT PASS FEDERAL EMISSIONS, BEFORE THERE IS A RECALL ISSUED FOR AN OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PART.
ON MY MAZDA MPV, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR EXTERIOR HANDLE DETACHED FROM THE BACK CONNECTION TO THE DOOR AND THEN COMPLETELY CAME OFF IN MY HAND ON THE FOLLOWING OPENING. NOW THE ENTIRE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE IS MISSING. TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE, I WENT TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A PART THAT WAS NOT EVEN STOCKED AT THE DEALER AND WOULD NEED SPECIAL ORDER. IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO ME TO SEARCH FOR THE PART MYSELF. IN DOING SO, I HAVE FOUND THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHERS ARE ALSO SEARCHING FOR EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES TO THE SLIDING DOORS ON THE MAZDA MPV VAN. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ERROR, NOT A CONSUMER ERROR. *NM
MAZDA MVP 2000 MINI VAN AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE CONSUMER HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE.
THE SPARE TIRE ON MY 2000 MPV BROKE AND LEFT THE TIRE DANGLING UNDER THE VAN. THERE IS ONLY 40,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DESIGN IS VERY POOR. IT IS UNSAFE IF THE SPARE TIRE IS NOT SECURE UNDER THE VEHICLE. IT IS UNSAFE TO BE UNABLE TO QUICKLY ACCESS THE SPARE ON THE ROADSIDE. THIS PART SHOULD BE MORE RELIABLE. I AM MOST ANGRY AT MAZDA. THE COST IS $500 TO REPAIR. IT ONLY CARRIES THE SPARE TIRE. I AM AWARE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. SURELY AND MORE SAFE AND RELIABLE DESIGN IS POSSIBLE.
