I STARTED MY VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DASH FLASHES THREE TIMES, THEN ANOTHER THREE TIMES, THAN STAYS ON SOLID. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONERS ARE SHORTED OUT AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1608. THEY TOLD ME MY AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION. I CALLED FORD MOTOR CO AND THEY SAID THERE ARE NO PLANS TO ISSUE A RECALL OVER THIS PROBLEM. THEY DID GIVE ME A CLAIM NUMBER AND TOLD ME THAT IF I GET IT REPAIRED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THERE EVER IS A RECALL, THEY WILL CONSIDER REIMBURSEMENT. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET INDICATES THAT THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 GRAND MARQUIS. GIVEN THAT THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT, HOW IS THIS NOT SUBJECT TO A SAFETY RECALL? *TR
2005 GRAND MARQUIS RECALL NOTICE ON YOUR VEHICLE, IT MAY BE POSSIBLE THAT THE UPPER INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS SERVICED INCORRECTLY DURING PREVIOUS REPAIRS FOR SAFETY RECALL 13S08 OR REGIONAL PROGRAM 13R01. *MW THE CONSUMER ATTACHED RECALL # 14V704000. DOCUMENT IS WRITTEN IN SPANISH. *JB
AIR BAG DASH LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN REMAINED ILLUMINATED STEADILY AFTER A FEW DAYS. DEALERSHIP CONDUCTED DIAGNOSTIC SCAN, WHICH REVEALED PROBLEM WITH BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER PRETENSIONERS, NEEDING REPLACING. THEIR ESTIMATE WAS APPROX. $1,500.00. FROM WHAT WE'VE RESEARCHED, THERE APPEAR TO BE NUMEROUS INCIDENTS OF THIS NATURE. THERE SHOULD BE A FULL INVESTIGATION WITH POSSIBLE RECALL. CANNOT AFFORD THIS REPAIR!!
I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT AND TURNING INTO A DARK DRIVEWAY WITH MY LIGHTS FUNCTIONING FINE AND THEY UNEXPECTEDLY WENT OUT. IT WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND WOULD HAPPEN WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING WITH THE LIGHTS ON. WE REPLACED THE LIGHT SWITCH AND THOUGHT THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN FIXED; THE LIGHTS SEEMED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED, RECENTLY, I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING AT 73 MPH, PASSING A SEMITRAILER, WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. TERRIFYING! FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO GET PAST THE SEMI AND PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER, THROW ON MY FLASHERS, AND FIDDLE WITH THE LIGHT SWITCH UNTIL THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. *TR
THE ISSUE DESCRIBED IN PE08066 HAPPENED TO ME LAST NIGHT. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 50 MPH MY HEADLIGHTS TUNED OFF SPONTANEOUSLY. LUCKILY I HAD OTHER CARS IN FRONT AND BEHIND ME AND COULD STILL SEE THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THEIR LIGHTS. MY TURN SIGNAL FUNCTIONED WHEN I SIGNALED I WAS PULLING OVER, AND IT APPEARED MY SIDE MARKERS WERE STILL ON (YELLOW GLOW OFF CARS AROUND ME). I DO NOT KNOW IF MY TAIL LIGHTS WERE STILL ON. I TURNED MY HEADLIGHT DIAL FROM AUTOMATIC TO MANUAL HEADLIGHTS, AND THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE. THEN, MY HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK ON SPONTANEOUSLY. THEY WERE OUT FOR A TOTAL FOR 10-15 SECOND. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
STARTED VEHICLE TO MOVE IT IN MY DRIVEWAY. PUT IT IN DRIVE AND THROTTLE STUCK OPEN AND VEHICLE SLAMMED MY GARAGE CORNER. TRIED PUTTING IT IN PARK AND IT WENT INTO REVERSE (BRAKE OVERRIDE DID NOT WORK) INSTEAD AND CROSSED STREET, WENT ACROSS NEIGHBORS LANDSCAPING STONES AND SLAMMED INTO THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR'S FRONT PORCH AT WHICH TIME THE IGNITION SHUT DOWN AND THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGES TO ALL THREE HOMES. *JS
NIGHTTIME, TURNED CAR OFF IN DRIVE THROUGH LINE AT FAST FOOD PLACE 185 MILES FROM HOME. HAVE LIGHT SWITCH ON AUTOMATIC. TURNED CAR ON AND DROVE OFF ONLY TO REALIZE THAT MY HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT ON. STOPPED IN ADJACENT PARKING LOT AND BEGAN PLAYING WITH THE SWITCH, TURNING CAR OFF AND ON, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DRIVE THREE HOURS WITH NO LIGHTS... HIGH BEAM FLASH MODE WOULD FUNCTION, BUT WOULD BE VERY UNSAFE ON TWO LANE HIGHWAY. SUDDENLY BEGAN WORKING ON OWN. STOPPED ONE TIME IN ROUTE HOME BUT AGAIN PLAYED WITH IT TILL IT CAME ON AGAIN. FEAR THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON. FORD DEALER SAYS $1,300 REPAIRS NEEDED. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE HEADLIGHTS TO RESUME NORMAL FUNCTION. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE LIGHTING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIGHTING MODULE HAD BEEN REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY UNDER AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER'S RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,300.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG PRETENSIONER FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 7/16/15*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN IN STOCK SINCE 10-10-14. 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED FAILURE OF THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE, CAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS TO GO OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THE ONLY WAY TO TURN THEM BACK ON, WAS TO REACH UNDER THE DASHBOARD AND TAP THE AFFECTED MODULE WHICH WORKED SOMETIMES AND SOMETIMES IT DIDN'T. THE PART WAS ORDERED ON NOVEMBER 6, 2014. HOWEVER, THE DEALER HAD NO IDEA WHEN THE SHIP WOULD BE FOR THE PART. *JB

HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM FORD IN APRIL OF 2014 THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL/LIGHTS PROBLEM AND THEY WOULD REPAIR IF OWNER ACTUALLY HAD THIS PROBLEM. I HAD NO PROBLEM UNTIL OCT 2014. WENT TO MY DEALER QUICK LANE/FORD IN TOPEKA, KS. THEY REPORTED THAT PART HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER SINCE MAY OF 2014. CONTACT ANOTHER FORD DEALER WHO REPORTED SAME. LIGHT HAVE REGULARLY GONE OFF SINCE THAT TIME. WHAT IS A REASONABLE TIME TO EXPECT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE CORRECT PARTS TO REPLACE AS NEITHER DEALER HAD ANY REPORT AS TO WHEN PART MIGHT COME. WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON AUTO-ON, THE HEADLIGHTS ON OUR VEHICLE TURNED OFF. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THEM ON MANUALLY, BUT THEY WOULD NOT COME ON. THIS SITUATION HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS IS A COMPLAINT ON FORD MOTOR CO. WE RECEIVED A LETTER FOR A RECALL IN APRIL, FOR THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE. NOT LONG AFTER, THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. NOTHING COULD GET THEM BACK ON. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE STATED THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART. THAT WAS OVER TWO MONTHS AGO. THE DEALER STILL DOES NOT HAVE THE PART. SO THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING THERE FOR THAT LENGTH OF TIME. WE COULD NOT TAKE A CHANCE OF DRIVING IT WITHOUT ANY LIGHTS. HOW CAN THE DEALER GET THE PART FROM CO? BOTH AIR BAG LIGHTS HAVE STAYED LIGHTED FOUR MONTHS APART. REPLACEMENT WAS A COMPLETE (USING FORD MOTOR CO PARTS) UNIT ON DRIVER-SIDE IN MAY 2014. NOW(SEPT 9,2014) THE PASSENGER SIDE UNIT NEEDS REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF $700.00 FOR EACH SIDE. THE STATE OF VIRGINIA INSPECTION PROCESS REQUIRES REPLACEMENT FOR THE VEHICLE TO PASS. I'M TOLD THE AIR BAG IS IN-OPERATIVE WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT. I HAD RECEIVED A "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM" RECALL FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR ADVISING THAT THE "LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE" (LCM) COULD FAIL CAUSING THE LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. THE CAR WAS EXAMINED, THE DEFECT WAS ACKNOWLEDGED, AND THE REPLACEMENT LCM WAS ORDERED. IT HAS NOW BEEN WELL OVER TWO MONTHS SINCE THE LCM WAS ORDERED. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT THE SUPPLY OF THE LCM IS SHORT DUE TO THE MASSIVE NUMBER OF DEFECTS. I HAVE PLEADED FOR RELIEF BY EMAILING FORD BUT THEY HAVE NOT SEEN FIT TO EVEN RESPOND TO MY COMMUNICATION. IT IS BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION HOW ANY PRUDENT PERSON, CORPORATION, OR ADMINISTRATION COULD CATEGORIZE LOSING THE HEADLIGHTS AS ANYTHING OTHER THAN A SAFETY ISSUE! IT IS FOR THIS REASON THAT LITTLE ACTION IS BEING TAKEN TO CORRECT THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL SITUATION. *TR
HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING AND CANNOT BE REGAINED WITH HEADLIGHT SWITCH. IN FACT, NO POSITION OPERATES WITH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH - NO PARKING LIGHTS, NO HEADLIGHTS, ETC. ONLY AFTER A SEEMINGLY RANDOM COOLING PERIOD WILL THE MODULE ALLOW THE CIRCUIT TO RE-ENGAGE. NO FORD DEALERS NOR AFTER MARKET AUTO PARTS COMPANIES ARE ABLE TO OBTAIN THE PART. EVEN IF THE VEHICLE OWNER ATTEMPTS TO PURCHASE AND REPLACE THE SMALL CIGARETTE SIZED BOX CALLED A "LIGHT CONTROL MODULE" OUT OF POCKET, RATHER THAN WAITING ON FORD, IT CANNOT BE FOUND ON THE MARKET IN COMPANIES LIKE ADVANCE AUTO PARTS. THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A SHRILL COMPLAINT ABOUT FORD. BUT THE DANGER IS HUGE TO THE DRIVER AND OTHER VEHICLES WHEN THIS PART RANDOMLY CAUSES ALL POWER TO BE LOST TO THE HEADLIGHTS. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE TO A STOP IN TOTAL DARKNESS. THE PART FAILURE IS INCREASING IN FREQUENCY, AND IS HAS BECOME A SAFETY MENACE. SOME FORD OR MERCURY OWNERS MAY NOT BE AFFLUENT ENOUGH TO OWN A SECOND VEHICLE TO DRIVE ONLY AT NIGHT. NO DRIVERS WANT TO ENCOUNTER ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THAT KIND OF MALFUNCTION. IN FACT, ALL THE VEHICLES WITH THAT KNOWN HAZARD SHOULD BE OFF THE ROAD AT NIGHT. NO DOUBT FORD HAS BEEN ADDRESSING THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE ISSUE SINCE THE APRIL 2014 RECALL, BUT CERTAINLY NOT WITH THE URGENCY REQUIRED. *TR
ALL HEADLIGHTS AND PARKING LIGHTS SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT IN THE DARKEST PART OF THE ROAD. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE SET ON AUTOMATIC, AND WHEN THEY ARE SET ON MANUAL. THERE WAS ONLY A DITCH ON EITHER SIDE OF THE ROAD (NO SHOULDER) AND NO STREET LIGHTS....SCARY!!!!! *TR
FAILED LAMP CONTROL MODULE, HEADLIGHTS FAIL TO WORK, ONLY HIGH BEAMS WORK WHEN LEVER IS HELD IN FLASH POSITION. FORD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM 14NO1 IN THE SPRING OF 2104 FOR JUST THIS PART FOR 15 YEARS OR 250,000 MILES. NO REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE USA. THE DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE A WAITING LIST THAT GOES BACK SIX MONTHS. HAVE TALKED TO REGIONAL MANAGERS IN DEARBORN, MICH. ALL SAY THEY HAVE NO IDEA OF A SHIPPING DATE, MUCH LESS A DELIVERY DATE, FROM SUPPLIER. WON'T INDICATE HOW MANY VEHICLES ARE EFFECTED, BUT HAS TO BE MANY DUE TO EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM. THEIR SOLUTION IS IF THE LIGHTS DON'T COME ON OR GO OUT WHILE DRIVING IS TO HIT UNDER THE DASH TO THE RIGHT OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND THEY SHOULD COME ON. THIS MEANS THERE ARE CARS ON THE ROAD THAT PEOPLE ARE DRIVING DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS KNOWING THAT THEIR CARS HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, BUT NO PARTS AVAILABLE FROM FORD TO HONOR WARRANTY. THIS MEANS THAT CARS ARE BEING USED THAT MAY NOT BE LEGAL TO DRIVE IN THE RAIN (MOST STATES HAVE HEADLIGHT ON IF RAINING LAW) AND ALSO WILL NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION. I UNDERSTAND THAT PARTS ARE NOT ALWAYS READILY AVAILABLE, BUT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE IN SEVERAL DAYS. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, WHY ARE THERE NO PARTS? NO OTHER HELP OR LOANER VEHICLE PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. DEALER SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF 500.00+. HE MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH 2005 GRAND MARQUIS VEHICLES. HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT WHEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WOULD NOT FUNCTION. I ALSO DID AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS IS INDEED A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH FORD VEHICLES IN GENERAL FOR 2005 MODEL VEHICLES. I HOPE TO SEE THIS ISSUE ADDRESSED BY A RECALL AS I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS 32416 MILES AND HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR

MY 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY DUE TO A MALFUNCTIONING SEATBELT PRETENSIONER. REPAIR/REPLACEMENT WILL COST $1800 TO DO BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER. CAR ONLY HAS 29,250 MILES ON IT. I HAVE FOUND WHERE THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. ALSO, SAW WHERE THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED AIRBAGS NOT TO DEPLOY IN A COLLISION. SOME HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEM REOCCURRING AFTER REPAIR. THIS IS A BAD DESIGN BY MERCURY AND A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED A RECALL! *JS
MANIFOLD HEAT SHIELD FELL OFF AND JAMMED STEERING WHEEL SHAFT, COULD NOT TURN STEERING WHEEL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY @ 65 MPH THE HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT OUT CAUSING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I TRIED THE SWITCH IN EVERY POSITION TO NO AVAIL THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO USE THE FLASH TO PASS BAR. I SAFELY PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND TRIED RESTARTING THE CAR AND MOVING THE SWITCH TO DIFFERENT POSITIONS, NOTHING WOULD WORK. THE ONLY WAY TO USE THE LIGHTS IS THE FLASH TO PASS (BRIGHT LIGHTS) SWITCH WHICH CAUSES NOT ONLY A SAFETY HAZARD TO MY FAMILY AND OTHER DRIVERS BUT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO DRIVE WITH ONLY BRIGHT LIGHTS. FORD HAS ISSUED (CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 14N01) WHICH IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BUT THE DEALERSHIPS ALL SAY THAT THE LCM IS ON BACKORDER AND WILL BE AT LEAST 45 DAYS TO RECEIVE THIS SAFETY HAZARD PART. MT FAMILY IS NOW STUCK IN A VEHICLE THAT CAN ONLY BE SAFELY DRIVEN DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. PLEASE HELP, PARTS STORES HAVE THESE PARTS AND FORD SHOULD HAVE TO BE REQUIRED TO PURCHASE THEM IF THEY CAN NOT PROVIDE THE PARTS UNTIL 45 DAYS LATER. JUNE 10 WHILE DRIVING 65 MILES PER HOUR MY LIGHTS FAILED. I WAS FORTUNATE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED IT WAS THE LIGHT MODULE. DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT FORD ACKNOWLEDGED THIS WAS A FAULTY PART AND THE WARRANTY ON SAID PART HAD BEEN EXTENDED FOR 15 YEARS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ORDERED THE PART 45 DAYS AGO BUT HAS NOT BEEN RECEIVED. I PERSONALLY CALLED FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES BUT FORD STILL CANNOT GIVE ME AN ESTIMATED DATE THE PART WILL BE RECEIVED. THIS SAME DEALERSHIP HAS WORKED ON MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES BUT NO ONE MENTIONED THE DEFECTIVE MODULE. THIS COULD EASILY LEAD TOE DEATH AND DESTRUCTION. IN EARLY JUNE THE HEADLIGHTS STARTED GOING OUT WITH NO WARNING. THEY WOULD ALSO FLASH ON AND OFF WHEN THE WIPERS WERE ON. TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE LCM WAS BAD. $500 TO REPAIR. WAS LOOKING ONLINE FOR A LCM AND SEEN THAT FORD WAS EXTENDING THEIR WARRANTY ON THE LCM UNDER THE NUMBER 14N01. LOOKED AT MY FORD RECALL LETTERS AND SEEN THAT FORD SENT OUT THIS WARRANTY 14N01 TO ME IN APRIL OF 2014. TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER ON 11 AUGUST AND THEY CONFIRMED THE LCM WAS BAD AND WOULD REPLACE IT. IT IS NOW 15 SEPTEMBER AND THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. NOW THE WIPERS AND WIPER WASHER COME ON EVEN WHEN THE WIPER SWITCH IS OFF. LIGHTS COME ON WHEN THEIR NOT SUPPOSED TO. LOST HEADLIGHTS. LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE FAILED. IT WAS DARK AND I WAS OUT OF STATE, APPROXIMATELY 325 MILES FROM HOME. I STAYED IN VA AND RETURNED HOME IN NY STATE THE NEXT DAY DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. I TRAVELED THROUGH A MANDATORY "HEADLIGHT ONE ZONE" ON ROUTE 15 IN MARYLAND. I TRAVELED THROUGH CONSTRUCTION ZONES IN PA ON I81, WHERE HEADLIGHTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE ON. APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS EARLIER I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD(CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 14N01) NOTIFYING ME THAT THIS FAILED PART WAS NOW PART OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. PROBLEM IS THAT THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AND FORD MOTOR CO. CANNOT TELL ME WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY RECALL. I WAS DRIVING ALONG WHEN MY TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CAR SPUN INTO TRAFFIC AND HIT A WALL AND GUARD RAIL BUT DID NOT HIT ANY CARS. AT ABOUT 8 PM, I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE. I TURNED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON AND OFF, BUT THE HEADLIGHTS DID NOT COME BACK ON. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE HEADLIGHTS JUST CAME BACK ON. I TURNED ON MY BLINKER TO GET BACK ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF AGAIN. MY HUSBAND AND I SWAPPED SEATS AND HE TOOK OVER THE DRIVING. THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND HE PULLED ONTO THE INTERSTATE. THE LIGHTS WENT OFF AGAIN AND AS LONG AS HE PULLED THE BLINKER TOWARDS HIM, THEN WE HAD BRIGHT LIGHTS. WHENEVER HE RELEASED THE BLINKER, THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WITH THE BRIGHT LIGHTS ON, THE DIM HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON FOR THE NEXT HOUR AS WE DROVE HOME. HE WAS TOLD AT A FORD DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS THE LIGHT SWITCH, SO HE REPLACED THE SWITCH. THE NEXT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF AGAIN. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON UNTIL WE GOT HOME ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER. WE HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR AT NIGHT SINCE THEN. WE HAVE SINCE LEARNED VIA THIS SITE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE. THE SERVICE MAN IN THE FORD PARTS DEPARTMENT SAID IT WAS HIS EXPERIENCE THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT WAS THE LIGHT SWITCH. SO WE SPENT $137 ON A PART THAT WE DID NOT NEED. *TR
