HEADLIGHTS WENT DARK WITHOUT WARNING AND WOULD NOT WORK REGARDLESS OF SETTING. I COULD ONLY GET HIGH BEAMS IF I HELD THE DIRECTIONAL LEVER UP. VERY SCARY. ALMOST RESULTED IN ACCIDENT!!!!! *TR

SIMILAR TO EVENTS AS PUBLISHED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE08066, I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT NIGHT AND THE HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT DARK. NO WARNING, JUST WENT OUT. PULLED OFF ONTO SHOULDER AND COULD NOT AVOID SLIDING OFF THE ROAD - VERY DANGEROUS. FINALLY FIGURED OUT IF YOU PULL THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER ALL THE WAY TOWARDS YOU IT WILL TURN THE BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS ON, BUT YOU HAVE TO HOLD IT ON POSITION .. IF YOU LET GO THE HEADLIGHTS GO BACK OUT. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND APPEARS WITHOUT WARNING. 1000'S OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE ALL OVER THE INTERNET - SO I CAN'T BELIEVE THE AGENCY CLOSED THE ORIGINAL INVESTIGATION?? WHAT COULD BE MORE DANGEROUS THAN LOSING YOUR HEADLIGHTS AT NIGHT?? THERE SHOULD BE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL FROM FORD MOTOR CO. ON THIS ISSUE! MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND COMMUNICATIONS TO FORD MOTOR CO. I DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY FROM TO WORK. DURING THE WINTER MONTHS, IT IS DARK AT 6 AM. THIS MORNING, AS I USUALLY DO, THE LIGHT SWITCH WAS ON AND IT WAS ON LOW BEAMS. SUDDENLY, THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED. THE SIDE MARKERS AND THE PARKING LIGHTS WERE ON. I SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES TO DECIDE HOW TO GET HOME WITH NO LIGHTS. THEN THE HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK ON. I TOOK A CHANCE, THEY REMAINED ON, THAT DAY. IT WOULD OCCUR PERIODICALLY THEN DAILY, SOMETIMES TWO (2) TO THREE (3) TIMES ON THE DRIVE TO WORK. *TR
I WENT TO HAVE MY LIGHTS FIXED DUE TO A TRAFFIC VIOLATION FOR HIGH BEAMS.I TOOK IT TO BE REPAIRED AT MALL OF GEORGIA FORD. MY LOW BEAMS WOULD NOT TURN ON. THEY REPLACED THE WRONG PART WHEN THERE WAS A WARRANTY OUT FOR THE LIGHTING MODULE. THEY REFUSED TO FIX ISSUE AND MY LOW BEAMS CONTINUED NOT TO WORK. IN ORDER TO MAKE THE LIGHTS WORK YOU HAVE TO HOLD DOWN THE HIGH BEAM LEVER . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V385000 (STEERING ) HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE TIME FOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTIFICATION IN AUGUST OF 2013 AND FELT THAT REPAIRS SHOULD BE COMPLETED BEFORE JANUARY OF 2014. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND ADVISED THAT THE RECALL NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED BUT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THERE ARE NO FAILURES AT THIS TIME.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE,SUDDENLY THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I PARKED FOR A WHILE, THEN I TURNED IT ON AND THE LIGHTS CAME ON. NOW THE LIGHTS GO OFF SOMETIMES, WHILE DRIVING ,AND I HAVE TO HOLD THE LEVER BACK TOWARDS ME, TO HAVE THE HIGH BEAMS ON UNTIL I REACH MY DESTINATION. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE. I HAD JUST GOT BACK ON I-75 NORTH, WHEN BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT ONCE! HALF AN HOUR LATER THEY CAME BACK ON! SINCE THEN, THE LAST 2 WEEKS IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES, UNTIL TONIGHT WHEN IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN A 10 MILE RADIUS. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE PARKING LIGHTS AND REAR LIGHTS ARE ON. THE HIGH BEAMS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU HOLD THE FLASHING UNIT. I TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY ABOUT IT, AND HE SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE MY LIGHT MODULE, WHICH RUNS ABOUT $700.00! THAT DOES NOT EVEN INCLUDE IF I WANT THEM TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THEM! THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS! NOT EVEN COUNTING THE NUMEROUS TIMES I GET FLASHED, AS IF I DON'T ALL READY KNOW MY HEADLIGHTS ARE OUT! *TR
WHILE DRIVING WITH HEADLIGHTS ON AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF. AFTER STOPPING AND TURNING CAR OFF AND RESTARTING ENGINE THE HEADLIGHTS EVENTUALLY START WORKING AGAIN. HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES THE SAME NIGHT. *TR
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ILLUMINATED. THIS HAPPENS VERY FREQUENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I CALLED THE DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HE SAID THE PART WOULD BE ABOUT $600, AND WITH LABOR ALL COST WOULD RUN ABOUT $800!THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,100. REMANUFACTURED LCM IS ABOUT $300 OR NEW ABOUT $500 FROM AN INDEPENDENT AUTO PARTS STORE. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF RANDOMLY. THE RUNNING LIGHTS STAY ON BUT THE NORMAL HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OFF RANDOMLY AND THEN COME BACK ON SEVERAL TO TENS OF MINUTES LATER. I CAN HEAR A CLICKING SOUND WHEN THE LIGHTS DO GO OFF AND BACK ON. WHEN THE LIGHTS DO GO OFF, I CAN HOLD THE HIGH BEAMS ON IF I HOLD THE STICK TOWARD ME. SOMETIMES INITIATING A TURN SIGNAL WILL CAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS TO COME BACK ON. *TR
MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR A FEW MILES, AFTER DARK, AT NIGHT. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE FUNCTIONING FINE. THEY MADE A BRIEF STOP AND WHEN THEY DROVE THE CAR OFF AND OUT OF THE LIT PARKING LOT, THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT COME ON IN AUTOMATIC MODE OR MANUAL MODE. THE PARK LIGHTS WORKED AND ALSO THE DASH LIGHTS WORKED. IT WAS NOT TILL THEY RAN OUT OF STREET LIGHTS BEFORE THEY DISCOVERED THEY HAD A PROBLEM. I GOT ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD PRODUCTS OF THAT MODEL. IT IS A POOR DESIGN AND IF THE HEADLIGHTS GO OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT COULD BE DANGEROUS. THE PART THAT USUALLY FAILS IS A DEALER ITEM THAT LIST FOR OVER $500.00 . FORD HAS UPGRADED THE NEW PART, SO THEY KNOW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.

HIGH AND LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED ON DARK 2 LANE HIGHWAY IN UPSTATE NY. FUMBLED WITH LIGHT CONTROLS UNTIL BY RANDOM CHANCE DISCOVERED THAT BY HOLDING "FLASH TO PASS" STALK BACK, HIGH BEAMS COULD BE ACTIVATED. MADE IT HOME STEERING WITH THE RIGHT HAND AND HOLDING FLASH TO PASS WITH LEFT, BLINDING ONCOMING DRIVERS WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ALL THE WAY. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM IN THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE (LCM) THAT CAN SOMETIMES BE CURED BY KICKING THE LCM, WHICH IS LOCATED UNDER THE DASHBOARD ABOVE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. HARD TO DO AT NIGHT, ON A DARK ROAD, AT HIGH SPEED, IN TRAFFIC, WHILE HOLDING THE FLASH TO PASS STALK WITH THE LEFT HAND AND STEERING WITH THE RIGHT HAND. THIS INTERMITTENT LIGHT FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN THE WEEK OF MAY 25, 2014. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN AT NIGHT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR

THE SEAT BELT WARNING AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WON'T GO OFF. IT HAPPEN BACK IN AUG 2011 AT 40,598 MILES NOW TWO YEARS LATER AT 53,631 SAME PROBELM AGAIN. I FILED A COMPLAINT THEN AND NOW ONCE AGAIN , WHEN ARE YOU PEOPLE GOING TO MAKE FORD FIX THESE CARS RIGHT. IF YOU LOOK AT ALL THE COMPLAINTS FILED CONCERNING THE SEAT BELT PROBELM IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT YOU ARE DOING ABSOULETY NOTHING EXCEPT LETTING THESE CAR MANUFACTURES GIVE US CONSUMER A BUNCH OF BS AND CHARGE US AND ARM AND LEG TO FIX SOME THING THAT SHOULDN'T BE FAILING THAT SOON. I MEAN COME ON IN 13,000 MILES AND IT FAILS AGAIN. IT WILL COST ME ANOTHER $450.00 TO FIX THE SAME PROBELM AND IF I DON'T THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK SO WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE ME???
THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE VEHICLE WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. PARKING LIGHTS STAYED ON AND FLASHERS WORKED ALLOWING TO GET THE CAR TO THE BREAK DOWN LINE. THIS HAS HAPPEN ABOUT 8-10 TIMES SINCE THE FIRST. IN CHECKING FOR A FIX, I FOUND THERE ARE A NUMBER OF COMPANIES OFFERING A REPAIR SOLUTION AND THIS LOOKS LIKE A COMMON AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT OCCURS OFTEN. I NOTICED THIS HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED BEFORE BUT NOTHING DONE. HAVING YOUR HEADLIGHTS GO OUT SEEMS DANGEROUS ENOUGH TO ME. THE REPAIR PART TO DO IT YOURSELF IS SOLD FOR ABOUT $10. $125 + TO PURCHASE A REPAIRED LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE. MY FORD DEALER WILL REPLACE THE LCM FOR $650. *TR

I OWN A 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS GS ORIGINAL OWNER WITH 37,700 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. A WEEK AGO MY DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AND IT REMAINS ON WHILE DRIVING. AFTER CHECKING WITH ONE OF MY MECHANICS, I WAS TOLD THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IF I AM IN A FRONT END COLLISION. I THINK THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM OTHERS 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS' HAVE HAD WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER, AND THINK IT WILL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WILL BE CONTACTING MY LINCOLN(FORMERLY MERCURY) DEALERSHIP ON BELL ROAD IN PHOENIX, AZ, TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIRS. WHILE I HAVE NEVER HAD A ACCIDENT WITH THE CAR, I CAN'T TAKE THE CHANCE THAT ME OR MY WIFE WILL NOT HAVE THE AIR BAG DEPLOY IN THE CASE OF A FRONT END COLLISION. I PURCHASED THE AUTO IN DECEMBER, 2004, AND AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WITH ONLY 37,700 MILES ON THE CAR. I WAS INFORMED THIS HAD OCCURRED IN OTHERS SAME EXACT THING. RIGHT AFTER THAT NEXT THING WAS DASH LIGHTS FOR ABS, AIRBAG, AND ANTI SKID STAY ON. I TOOK IT TO 2 PLACES. WAS TOLD IT WAS A MODULE UNIT BY ONE PLACE THE OTHER COULDN'T FIND A REASON. I HAVE NOT HAD IT FIXED SINCE I COULDN'T GET A CLEAR REASON FOR IT, ALSO THE CAR RUNS FINE. THE LIGHTS MUST MEAN SOMETHING. I'M GOING TO SELL IT BUT NEED TO GET AS MUCH A POSSIBLE FOR IT AND THIS WILL TAKE AWAY FROM THE BUYING PRICE. I OWN A 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ONCE THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AND REMAINED ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR DIAGNOSIS AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT PRETENSIONER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $501 IN ADDITION TO THE $103 CHARGED FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. I WILL INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. I OBSERVE FROM OTHER WEBSITES/REPORTS WHAT I BELIEVE MAY BE A PATTERN OF PREMATURE FAILURE OF GRAND MARQUIS SEATBELT PRETENSIONERS ESPECIALLY IN THE 2005 MODEL YEAR. I WAS RETURNING HOME WITH MY WIFE FROM A TRIP TO CHARLESTON, SC, AT ABOUT 10:00 PM, DRIVING AT 60 MPH, WHEN MY HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THAT HAPPENS IN THE VICINITY OF AWENDAW AND THERE ARE NO STREET LIGHTS IN THE AREA. BOTH MY WIFE AND I SCREAMED IN PANIC WHILE I WAS TRYING TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR AND STAYING IN MY LANE ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS THANKFUL THAT THE TURN SIGNALS, MARKER LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS STILL WORKED, SO ANY OTHER CARS WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE ME. WHEN I FINALLY PULLED UP THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT ANY MISHAPS, I INSPECTED THE CAR AND FOUND OUT THAT ALL THE FUSES WERE GOOD. I THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND STILL DID NOT GET MY HEADLIGHTS TO COME ON. I PLAYED WITH THE TURN SIGNAL/ LOW BEAM/HIGH BEAM LEVER AND GOT THE FLASHING HIGH BEAM POSITION TO WORK, SO I DROVE HOME TO MYRTLE BEACH HOLDING THE FLASHING HIGH BEAM LEVER UP TO LIGHT MY WAY. OTHERWISE, I WOULD HAVE TO HIRE A TAXI, SPEND THE NIGHT IN THE NEAREST HOTEL TO WAIT FOR DAYLIGHT TO RESUME MY TRIP HOME. APPARENTLY, THE PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS SHUTTING OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT COMES FROM THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE INSTALLED THE 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS THAT MALFUNCTIONS WHEN THE CARS REACHED AN AVERAGE MILEAGE OF 69,000 MILES (SOME AS EARLY AS 30,000 MILES, UP TO 114,000 MILES DOCUMENTED). *TR

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY FORD. I HAVE HAD MORE PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL THAN I HAVE EVER HAD WITH ANY OTHER CAR. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE A/C - HEATING SYSTEM, FRONT LIGHT SYSTEM (AFTER TONS OF COMPLAINTS BY OTHER PEOPLE FORD FINALLY RECALLED AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. WHY DO YOU WAIT? IF ONE PERSON COMPLAINS, MUCH LESS NUMEROUS OTHERS IT SHOULD BE FIXED BY FORD DUE TO FAULTY PARTS. OF COURSE NOW I WILL HAVE TO HAVE IT FIXED AND IT IS EXPENSIVE! I USE TO HAVE ALL THE FAITH IN THE WORLD IN FORD BUT NO MORE. THE MANUFACTURE AGAIN STATED NO THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 MILES.
