AS I WAS TRYING TO PICK UP SPEED FROM 35 MPH MY CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT THE MECHANIC TO GET THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST RAN ON IT. IT SHOWED THAT I HAD A BAD IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUGS. I BOUGHT THE COIL FROM FORD AND WHEN I GOT IT PUT IN MY CAR 3 MINUTES LATER THAT SAME COIL I BOUGHT EXPLODED AGAIN! IMA MECHANIC CALLED FORD THEY SAID IT WAS A RECALL ON THIS CARS PCM. I'VE READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FROM NUMEROUS PEOPLE. FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!
I GOT INTO THE CAR WITH MY ONE MONTH OLD GRANDDAUGHTER AND HER MOM AND MY SON, THE CAR HESITATED TO START, GOT ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND TRIED TO PICK UP SPEED AND THE CAR GOES ONLY TO 55 SPEED AND IT DON'T PICK UP SO I HAD TO GET OFF THE EXPRESSWAY WITH MY FAMILY BECAUSE THE CAR WASN'T ACTING RIGHT, .THEN THE NEXT THING I KNOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE AIRBAG CAME ON AND THAT TOOL BAR ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE DASH BOARD CAME ON.AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THIS IS A 2006 MERCURY MILAN PREMIER , I HEARD A LOT OF CLICKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME, WHEN I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR HESITATE AND ANOTHER CAR ALMOST HIT ME AND MY FAMILY AND ONE MONTH OLD GRANDDAUGHTER. I REACH OUT TO FORD AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY RECALL IN THE SYSTEM FOR MY CAR . I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO THIS IS SO WRONG , THESE ARE SOME OF THE CODES THAT HAS COME ON THE CAR AS WELL P0403, P0161,P0155,P0141,P0135,P0102, P0020,P0010,P0179,P1489,P0443.
WHILE DRIVING AT 40-50MPH AND THEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO PASS OR GO UPHILL THE TRANSMISSION WOULD CLUCK OUT OF GEAR AND THEN SLAM BACK IN VIOLENTLY. IT WAS SO VIOLENT THAT IT SNAPPED THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE MOUNT. WHEN IT DOES THIS THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD WITH LOSS OF POWER AND THEN SNAPS BACK WHEN IT SLAMS BACK INTO GEAR. I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AND AFTER CONSULTING WITH SONNAX TECHNICAL SUPPORT, THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE VALVE BODY AND UPDATE THE PCM/TCM WITH THE LATEST SOFTWARE. HOWEVER, THEY DID SAY THAT THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE AISIN/FORD HAVE NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE WITH THE VALVE BODY, THEY KEEP THROWING UPDATES AT THE PROBLEM BUT BUY THEN DAMAGE HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE AND FORD WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS IS NOT JUST A CONSUMER COMPLAINING, THIS IS A CONSUMER THAT BELIEVES THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND AISIN/FORD SHOULD STEP UP AND RECALL THIS VALVE BODY AND FIX THE ISSUE AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER BECAUSE THEY KNEW THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THAT TRANSMISSION BUT IGNORED IT AND KEPT THROWING UPDATES AT IT INSTEAD OF DOING THE RIGHT THING AND RECALLING IT AND FIXING IT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO FIX A FAULTY PART WITH SOMETHING THAT IS NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK. FORD STEP UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING. *TR
HARD SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS FROM 30 MPH TO 60 MPH. HAVE TO PULL OVER SOMETIMES. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ENTERING THE FREEWAY OR NEEDED ACCELERATION OR REDUCTION IN SPEED IN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS. HAVE HAD FORD UPDATE COMPUTER WITH NO RESULTS.
TAKATA RECALL: WE HAVE ATTEMPTED MANY TIMES OVER THE YEARS TO GET SERVICE RE: THE TAKATA RECALL ON OUR VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE NOTIFIED US EACH TIME THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO GET THE PART(S). WHERE CAN WE TAKE OUR CAR TO GET THIS RESOLVED? I FEEL WE'RE IN DANGER AND NO ONE IS HELPING US.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN I75S IN VERY SLOW TRAFFIC. AS I WAS APPROACHING AM ACCIDENT. I NOTICED THE CAR STALLING OR JERKING A LITTLE. THE WRENCH SENSOR CAME ON IN THE CAR. I GOT OVER 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER & CHECKED THE CAR. I DIDN'T SEE ANY OBVIOUS PROBLEMS SO I TURNED IT OFF WAITED A FEW SECONDS & STARTED IT BACK UP. THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OFF BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I GOT OFF THE EXIT & TURNED AROUND TO COME HOME. THE CAR DID FINE. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST & THEY SAID THE THROTTLE BODY WAS FAILING & WOULD EVENTUALLY LEAVE ME STRANDED. I AM TRYING TO GET THIS ISSUE TAKEN CAR OF SOON. I'VE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUES AS MINE ONLINE WITH NC CARS & WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANY RECALL INFO REGARDING THIS SUBJECT. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO WORK BC THIS IS MY ONLY CAR & IM SCARED TO GET STRANDED. *TR
TURNED MY CAR ON ONE MORNING AND A WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT UPON DRIVING TO MY REPAIR SHOP TO GET PROBLEM LOOKED AT NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN ACCELERATION POWER AND VEHICLE WAS IN "LIMP MODE" MY MECHANIC TOLD ME. LOOKED UP THE ISSUE AND FOUND IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH MY MAKE AND MODEL AND THAT A COMPLAINT HAS BEEN SUBMITTED FOR A RECALL OF THE THROTTLE BODY ON MY VEHICLE AND MANY OTHERS SO I AM SUBMITTING MY COMPLAINT TO HELP GET THIS ISSUE PUT INTO RECALL STATUS AS THE PART IS FAIRLY EXPENSIVE AND I DON'T BELIEVE WE AS A CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR A DEFECT FROM FAULTY PARTS INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE AT THE FACTORY. *TR
"TAKATA RECALL" I WAS NOTIFIED BACK IN 2014 THAT I HAD A TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THAT WAS NEEDING TO BE FIXED. I CONTACTED FORD AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO COME IN. WHEN I GOT THERE, THEY SAID THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE PARTS TO DO IT AND SAID THAT I WOULD BE RECEIVING A LETTER IN THE MAIL FROM FORD ONCE THAT PART CAME IN. I CALLED APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS LATER BECAUSE I HAD NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING IN THE MAIL AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHECK INTO IT AND GET BACK WITH ME. I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP. I WAS WORKING WITH BUCKEYE FORD IN LONDON, OH. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THEY WOULD HAVE CONTACTED ME BY NOW.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR.A TOOL LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND DROPPED TO 5MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. A CAR NEARLY HIT ME FROM BEHIND. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO START. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SURGED FORWARD WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS REQUIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED REPEATEDLY BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE A TUNE UP WAS PERFORMED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING AT 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
I WAS SITTING IN MY CAR AND I WAS ABOUT TO GET OUT AND WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE SO NOW I HAVE TO ROLL MY WINDOW DOWN TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE AND THE HANDLES ON THE REAR DOOR ARE STARTING TO BREAK ALSO. *TR
MY VEHICLE SOMETIMES STALLS IN MOTION OR IT WILL SUDDENLY JERK FORWARD WHEN ACCELERATING. THIS INCIDENT ALSO OCCURS WHEN ACCELERATING TO HIGH SPEEDS, SUCH AS GETTING ON THE FREEWAY. THE SPEED VARIES AS IT HAS ALSO OCCURED IN TOWN DRIVING. IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON.
THE DRIVES INSIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE, IT WILL NO LONGER OPEN THE DOOR. I HAVE TO KEEP THE CAR RUNNING, ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN, STICK MY HAND OUT THE WINDOW TO OPEN THE DOOR,FROM THE OUTSIDE THEN KEEP THE DOOR OPEN BEFORE I CAN REMOVE THE KEY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MILAN. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS VERY SOFT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE ON AN UNEVEN ROAD OR WHEN BRAKING ABRUPTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING, CAR IS BUCKING AND SOMETIMES THE ENGINE SLIPS TO A REDUCED SPEED. I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT ON AND OFF THE ACCELERATOR SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE SPEED WILL INCREASE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS DURING RUSH HOUR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET WHEN MY CAR BEGIN TO A LOSE SPEED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A LITTLE WRENCH SO I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND I HAD IT REPLACED AND NO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH ARE BACK ON AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT FORD HAS A RECALL ON THE THROTTLE BODY THAT THEY USE IN THE FORD FUSION AND THE MILAN AND FUSION ARE BASICALLY THE SAME CAR AND I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO SHELL OUT ANOTHER 300.00 FOR A PART THAT'S NO GOOD THEY SHOULD REALLY DO A RECALL ON THE MILAN THROTTLE BODY AS WELL. *TR
RADIO LIGHT WENT OUT AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON HAD TROUBLE GETTING THE KEY OUT AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. *TR
WE WERE GOING UP A HILL ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70MPH WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I'M TOLD IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE. THERE HAD BEEN NO WARNING OF A PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW FELL DOWN INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE DOOR APART AND DISCOVERED THAT THE MOTOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 169,119. *TR
PUT MY CAR INTO PARK AND MY KEY REFUSED TO COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. I TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK/DRIVE TO SEE IF THE IGNITION WILL UNLOCK, BUT IT IS NOT COMMUNICATING THAT IT IS IN PARK (STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT LOCK, I ALSO CAN'T TURN THE KEY BACKWARDS AND PUT INTO AUXILIARY MODE. IT WOULDN'T BE A BAD THING IF I DIDN'T LIVE IN THE CITY. BESIDES THE FACT THAT THE STUPID DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH IS BUSTED TOO WHICH IS A SECURITY ISSUE ALONG WITH A SAFETY ISSUE. CAN'T A CONSUMER RELY ON A CAR MANUFACTURE TO ISSUE PARTS THAT DON'T BREAK OR MALFUNCTION... I SEE ONLINE THAT LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE... AS THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN, WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO GET THIS FIXED WHEN IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE? MAYBE ITS TIME TO BUY A CHEVY. *TR
WELL WE WERE DRIVING THROUGH THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS ON THE HIGHWAY, WE WENT TO PASS A CAR THAT WAS SLOW. WE STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND IT TRIED TO SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE (BECAUSE EVERYONE IF FLYING THROUGH THERE). BUT, AS THAT HAPPENED THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND SENT THE RPMS TO A REALLY SCARY AREA WHERE WE THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BLOW UP. LUCKILY, THEY CAME BACK DOWN BUT AS WE WOULD DRIVE UNTIL IT STOPPED. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER WE FIGURED OUT IF WHEN THAT HAPPENED IF WE PULLED OVER TURNED THE CAR OFF LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE THEN TURN IT BACK ON AND IT WOULD WORK FINE FOR A WHILE THEN. SO, TO ME IT ALMOST SEEMS LIKE ITS A COMPUTER ISSUE BUT ITS NOT BECAUSE WE WENT TO AN AS-E CERTIFIED SHOP AND HAD THE COMPUTERS FLASHED THEN REPROGRAMMED AND IT STILL DOES IT WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MILAN EQUIPPED WITH FUTURE TOURING VR 545 TREAD DEPTH TIRES, SIZE 225/50/R17. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THE TIRES SPUN OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TIRES WERE PERFORMING TO STANDARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 40,000. UPDATED 4/1/13 *CN UPDATED 4/5/13 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE PURCHASED FOUR TIRES, AND PRESENTLY THEY HAVE 70% TREAD LEFT. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IN RAINY WEATHER, HE FELT THE WHEELS SPIN, AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR PANEL AND FAILED TO CLOSE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE TOLD THAT THE WINDOW WOULD NEED A NEW MOTOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW ALSO FAILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT MOTOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DECELERATING FROM 30 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION KNOCKED AND SLIPPED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST RESULTS SHOWED A DEFECT VALVE BODY ON THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE VALVE BODY. 44,000.
MY DRIVER'S SIDE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE. I WAS TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AFTER PARKING IT BUT COULDN'T. I HAD TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPEN THE DOOR USING THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY PROBLEM AND SINCE THIS ISN'T AN ISOLATED EVENT, (NOTICE THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AND THE NUMBER OF MULTIPLE REPAIRS/REPLACEMENTS) FORD SHOULD REPLACE THEM OR UPGRADE THEM TO SOMETHING MORE RELIABLE. AT SOME POINT SOMEONE WILL BE INJURED OR WORSE BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO EXIT THEIR CAR QUICKLY. *TR
THE PLASTIC INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BROKE WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THEM. BOTH FRONT HANDLES BROKE WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER. I DIDN'T KNOW THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WAS BROKEN UNTIL MY WIFE ASKED ME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR TO LET HER OUT ON HER SIDE. AND THEN APPROXIMATELY A WEEK LATER THE DRIVER'S SIDE INTERIOR HANDLE BROKE ALSO. NOW NEITHER DOOR CAN BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. THE WINDOW NEEDS TO BE ROLLED DOWN AND THE OUTSIDE HANDLE NEEDS TO BE USED. WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR (USED) THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE INTERIOR HANDLE PLASTIC WAS BROKEN AND WE KNEW THIS. EVEN BROKEN YOU CAN STILL USE IT TO OPEN THE REAR DOOR. I WAS IN THE DRIVERS SEAT WHEN THE DRIVER'S INTERIOR HANDLE BROKE. I WAS PARKED, AND I HEARD A CLICK BEFORE I TRIED OPENING MY DOOR FROM THE INSIDE AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THERE IS DEFINITELY A BIG PROBLEM WITH THESE CHEAP PLASTIC DOOR HANDLES THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY NEEDS TO ADDRESS. THREE OUT OF FOUR INTERIOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN. IT IS TRULY A SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU CANNOT EXIT YOUR CAR USING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES. *TR
MY POWER STEERING FAILED AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. I HEARD A FAINT NOISE LIKE A MARBLE DROPPING ONTO A SURFACE AND ROLLING AS I STARTED THE CAR. I QUICKLY REALIZED I WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. HE INFORMED ME THAT THE BOLT ON THE IDLER PULLEY BROKE, AND PART OF THIS BOLT FELL INTO THE ENGINE. WHEN I ASKED HIM HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN, HE INFORMED ME THAT HE BELIEVED IT WAS DUE TO THE FAULTY DESIGN - PLACING TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THIS BOLT, CAUSING IT TO EVENTUALLY BREAK IN TWO. THEY HAD TO TAKE THE ALTERNATOR OFF TO RECOVER THE PIECE OF THE BOLT THAT FELL INTO THE ENGINE. THE IDLER PULLEY WAS THEN REPLACED. I BELIEVE THAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, ESPECIALLY AT A HIGH SPEED, IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS IF NOT FATAL ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 MERCURY MILAN AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE TWICE. ONCE WAS UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO THE "CHROME" PEELING OFF. THE SECOND TIME IT WAS REPLACED THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE AND I ENDED UP PAYING $54 FOR A NEW PLASTIC HANDLE. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE TO BREAK IN THE SAME SPOT AND HAD TO REPLACE IT AND THAT COST ME $35 AT THE TIME DUE TO ME WORKING FOR A LOCAL FORD COMPANY. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IF THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE OR YOU HAD AN ACCIDENT AND THE HANDLE HAPPENS TO BREAK AT THE SAME TIME YOU WOULD HAVE TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN TO OPEN THE HANDLE FROM THE OUTSIDE OR CRAWL TO THE PASSENGER SIDE TO GET OUT. ANYONE OF LARGER SIZE WOULD HAVE TROUBLE CRAWLING TO THE PASSENGER SIDE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I ALSO FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL THESE HANDLES AND PUT SOMETHING WITH HIGHER QUALITY IN THAT WILL NOT BREAK. I PERSONALLY FORESEE THIS BEING A LAWSUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
WHEN SWITCHING LANES ON A HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH, ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE BUT CAR WHICH IS AN AUTOMATIC WOULD NOT SHIFT. HAD TO GET TO SHOULDER TO GET CAR SLOWED DOWN AND GET IT TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. AFTER THAT INCIDENT IT WOULD ONLY DRIVE IN THE LOWER DRIVE GEAR NOT IN THE NORMAL DRIVE GEAR. AFTER CAR HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 30 MINUTES, THE CAR WOULD WORK IN NORMAL DRIVE GEAR BUT STILL DID A HARD POP TO SHIFT GEARS WITH A HARD ACCELERATION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL AND THAN POP INTO GEAR. FORD IS AWARE OF ISSUE AS HAD ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON CORRECTING THE ISSUE. A TRANSMISSION WITH ONLY 70000 MILES SHOULD NOT BE SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL BY ITSELF WHICH CREATES A POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT ESPECIALLY ON A HIGHWAY THAT MAY NOT HAVE SHOULDERS FOR THE DRIVER TO MOVE ITS NOW SLOW VEHICLE OUT OF TRAFFIC. *TR
VEHICLE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL ATTEMPT TO DOWNSHIFT TO LOWER GEAR ON AN UPWARD HILL OR GRADE. WITHOUT WARNING, TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES, SLIPS, AND SUDDENLY JERKS INTO GEAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD, SOMETIMES FORCEFUL ENOUGH TO POSSIBLY LOSE CONTROL. MANY OTHER FORD VEHICLE MODELS WERE ALSO AFFECTED. FORD ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #08-24-1 IN 2008 ABOUT THE KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRATION. *TT
THE FIRST INCIDENT MY CAR WAS BUCKING AND SHAKING. I TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER THAT RAN THE TRANSMISSION AND 3 COILS. NOW AT 77,000 IT AGAIN IS HAVING SLIPPING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THESE ISSUES SEEM TO HAPPEN AT RANDOM TIMES, BUT USUALLY BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH. WHEN YOU PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE FROM 40-50MPH THERE IS A LOUD BANGING SOUND WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND YOU LOSE ACCELERATION. YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS AND TRY REPEATEDLY AGAIN TO GET THE CAR TO ACCELERATE. I ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE LANES, BUT COULD NOT ACCELERATE DUE TO THE SLIPPING PROBLEM. IT TOOK IT TO MECHANIC WHO HAD THE CAR FOR 2 WEEKS AND COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. MECHANIC TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY PUT ON COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS AND COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. I HAVE FOUND COUNTLESS OTHER REPORTS ON THE INTERNET OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND EVEN PEOPLE WHO HAVE REPORTED EITHER HAVING TO DRIVE OFF THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THE LACK OF ACCELERATION AND ALSO OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE GOTTEN INTO ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM OF NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE. DOOR HANDLE ON REAR PASSENGER SIDE BROKEN OFF AT 40K, SON UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. *TR
PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT WITH MY SON IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND ATTEMPTED TO PULL THE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. IT (THE HANDLE) BROKE IN HALF AND WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE QUICKLY OR SAFELY. I BEGAN TO PANIC AS I FELT TRAPPED. SO I ROLLED DOWN THE POWER WINDOW FOR AIR AND TO CALM DOWN. BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO THINK CLEARLY AND TRY OPENING THE DOOR WITH THE EXTERIOR HANDLE FROM THE INSIDE, I EXITED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE DRIVER WINDOW. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE HANDLES ARE A CHRONIC PROBLEM ON ALL 4 INTERIOR DOORS. SOMEONE WILL NEED TO EXIT THEIR VEHICLE QUICKLY. IF THIS HAPPENS THEY ARE SLOWED DOWN IF NOT TRAPPED INSIDE. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE THIS A RECALL ISSUE? I AM UNABLE TO OPEN DRIVER SIDE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE OF CAR. THE HANDLE REMAINS IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION AND CAN ONLY BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. THE CAR CAN'T BE LOCKED WITH THE REMOTE, ONLY WITH THE KEY. IN THE EVENT THERE WAS AN EMERGENCY, THE DRIVER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR UNLESS THEY COULD OPEN THE WINDOW AND THEN OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE PREVALENT WITH THE 2006 MODELS BOTH FORD AND MERCURY. JUST SEARCH THE INTERNET. IT APPEARS THE RESOLVE IS TO HAVE THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE REPLACED. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON OTHER FORD MODELS FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS BUT NOT THE FUSION OR MILAN, WHICH HAVE THE MOST COMPLAINTS SEEN ON THE INTERNET. THE DEALER WILL FIX THE PROBLEM FOR A FEE BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS NOT DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 44,344 MILES, IS WELL CARED FOR AND IT IS EVIDENT THAT OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH MUCH LESS MILEAGE. I AM SURPRISED THAT THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED TO ASSIST WITH 10% OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.
THE KEY TO MY MERCURY MILAN WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY CARS, AND ONE DAY I WAS SIMPLY UNABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT AFTER PARKING. I CALLED MY HUSBAND, AND UPON HIS SUGGESTION I TRIED TURNING THE KEY ON AND OFF (GENTLY), SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF PARK, AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, ETC., BUT TO NO SUCCESS. AS THE LOCKING MECHANISM (FOB) IS ACTUALLY ON THE KEY, I HAD NO WAY OF LOCKING THE VEHICLE WHICH IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE ON A UNIVERSITY CAMPUS AT NIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT OPEN YET, BUT I WILL TAKE IT IN ON MONDAY. UNTIL THEN, I AM LEFT WITH A CAR THAT CANNOT BE LOCKED WITHOUT AN EXTRA KEY, AND IF SOMEONE BREAKS INTO MY VEHICLE THEY NEED ONLY TO TURN THE KEY AND DRIVE AWAY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000.
