NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2011 Mercury Milan. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
1) The electric power steering system failed. The dashboard displayed the message “Service Power Steering Now,” and the steering assist stopped working, making the steering extremely stiff. The vehicle also lost reverse gear, where the engine revs but the vehicle does not move when shifted into reverse. The vehicle is still in my possession and available for inspection upon request. 2) When the power steering assist failed, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn, which made the vehicle harder to control. This created a safety risk when attempting to turn or maneuver the vehicle in traffic or parking areas. Additionally, the inability to use reverse gear could create a hazardous situation if the driver cannot back out of traffic, parking spaces, or other areas. 3) The problem has not yet been inspected or confirmed by a dealership or independent service center. 4) No, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other parties. 5) The dashboard displayed the message “Service Power Steering Now,” and the steering assist stopped working. The problem appeared suddenly when the vehicle was started. The steering immediately became extremely stiff, and the warning message appeared at that time. This failure created a serious safety hazard because the steering assist stopped working without warning, making the vehicle extremely difficult to control. A sudden loss of steering assist can increase the risk of a crash, especially when turning, parking, or driving in traffic. I am concerned that other drivers could experience the same sudden steering failure. The vehicle displayed the message “Service Power Steering Now,” and the steering immediately became extremely stiff. The vehicle is currently undriveable in reverse and difficult to steer safely.
on 10/27/25 my son was driving car (2011 Mercury Milan) and light came on dash and car suddenly lost all power steering. Luckily car was able to be driven to side of the road when steering went out. I went to the Ford recalls website and it indicated "Epas steering efforts" was on the website as requiring free service. This recall is specifically for loss of power steering in car. Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) systems provide variable steering assistance but can experience issues leading to increased steering effort and loss of control. Upon checking with dealer, this was to be fixed under safety recall bulletin 15S18. This was initially repaired in 2015 under that recall bulletin. This did not fix the issue as the car requires a power steering gear replacement for same issue. Warranties on this recall are not being honored and this is deceptive as the final repair did not correct the problem. Federal law dicates warrenties do not expire on safety recalls. Upon checking the ford recall website, Ford is now indicating it can be fixed under a "Customer Satisfaction Program" to cover the original safety recall which has already expired. Now I am faced with almost a $3k repair on a safety recall which was never fixed and not being honored by Ford.
Passenger side brake light assembly failed June 2025. I found it our at an oil change inspection. Ford discontinued manufacturing this LED brake light assembly, so it is difficult to replace this safety critical part. The part number is 9N7Z 13404 A.
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for servicing, the contact was informed that the electronic brake control module had failed. The contact was informed that the electronic brake control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My car was recalled for the steering control module issue in 2016, Recall 15S18 and 15N01. Brought it into my Ford dealer in 2016 and Ford declined to fix the steering control module repair. In 2016, car was well within the 10 year window and mileage restriction. Now, my car still is under 150K miles, is at 124,000. The power steering stopped working last week. The error message on dashboard states, power steering control error. Brought it into shop and mechanic diagnosed it as error with power steering control module and loss of power steering assist. Mechanic advised me to return to Ford as this problem was under recall 15V34. Ford refuses to repair my car as it is past the 10 year warranty window. If Ford would not have denied this repair in 2016, my car power steering control module would not have failed last week. Now my car is unsafe to drive. Ford should have fixed my car and now it is undrivable. They know that 2011 Mercury Milans have this issue and have abdicated responsibility for the safety of my car.
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the power steering assist intermittently failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the "Service Power Steering Now" message was displayed. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not under recall or warranty. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
Steering went out on vehicle, very difficult to steer. Got it to the dealership, they say it is not in the recall. The power steering assist fault light came on and service advance trac. Is costing almost $1500 to fix.
I've been reading on all these recalls for my car and only one recall was fix which was when I took care of it but these past recalls on my car, and some of the recalls match up to the way my car is acting like and I bought this car used and I am concerned about the recalls and not being fix I would like to get my car checked for the past recalls on it bc I don't want to drive a car that has recalls that's not been fix and I do not want to put my life or anyone else in danger
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the steering wheel locked. The power steering assist warning light was illuminated, and the message "Service Advance Track" was displayed. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. No further information was provided. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.
Power steering service light came on, and the power steering on vehicle was impaired and almost impossible to turn the wheel while operating the vehicle .,after contacting Ford dealership, a recall is listed on that year of this make and model, but the Vin number is not included in the recall for maintenance repairs
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering functionality. A message indicating power steering failure was displayed. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics, where it was determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the repair of Ford Campaign Number: 15N01 could not be completed due to the vehicle's mileage. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, she heard an abnormal sound coming from the front-end of the vehicle, and the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly. The "Service Power Steering Now" and "Service Advance Track" messages were displayed. Additionally, the traction control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V34000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 186,000.
The first symptom was the steering wheels failure to return to center after going around a corner. That went on for about 3 weeks before the Service Advance Trac warning came on. The vehicle started to have a terrible noise when turning the wheel which can only be described as the sound of bones breaking. The sound is increasing louder at slow speeds. Then the Advance Trac System Failure message came on, and the vehicle lost all power steering assist. When turning a corner the steering wheel almost gets stuck at the 2,3,4,5 positions. There was a massive Ford recall for this make and model with the exact same failed part, but for some reason Ford decided to not include my vehicle in this recall, despite it having the failure. This is a very expensive repair, and at this point in the vehicles life basically renders it a total loss. This should be remedied by Ford for all vehicles with this part.
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The failure was more evident during the cold weather. The Service Power Steering warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 260,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that the vehicle had been experiencing power steering failure. The contact stated while reversing out of the driveway and attempting to make a turn, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The messages "Power Steering Assist Fault" and "Service Advancetrac" were displayed. The contact stated that she was unable to turn the steering wheel. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.
The power steering is out and the car is very hard to turn and control. The recall has been confirmed by the dealer but it appears that they cannot fix due to my vin number not showing a recall for the power steering control module.
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The contact stated that the power steering fault warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it remained awaiting the diagnostic test and repair. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
power steering doesn't work some or all the time. Pulling over and turning the car off is no longer working to reset.
Power steering locked on me while driving
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the power steering failed while accelerating to merge onto the highway. The vehicle veered off the roadway. The contact pulled over to avoid a crash. The contact stated that the steering angle sensor fault message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer who stated that the power steering failed. The failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) however, their VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 212,000.
Loss of power steering and steering assist light comes on. The local dealership diagnosed it needing the power steering gear assembly replaced which they stated was a recall on the vehicle but then stated the codes they entered into Ford rejected the recall approval. Recall # 15N01
While driving normally, suddenly my power steering turned off on the highway and SERVICE Advancetrac and SERVICE Power steering came in with no warning or dashboard indicator lights. This caused serious driving issues and I was barely able to get home safely. This issue was addressed in the 2015 15S18 recall but the issue is still there.
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that upon the start of the vehicle, the power steering assist failed to operate as needed as the "service power steering" warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact stated that her vehicle was placed under NHTSA Campaign Number:15V340000(Steering) and was previously serviced by a dealer. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer where she was informed that the recall had expired and that they could not offer any more assistance. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and was given the same information as the dealer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
RE: Safety Recall Notice 21S12 / NHTSA Recall 21V-158 ISSUE: "In the event of a crash that causes deployment of the driver airbag, the driver airbag inflator in your vehicle may explode." RISK: "If an airbag inflator explodes, sharp metal fragments could strike the driver or other occupants causing serious injury or death." MY COMPLAINT: I received this notice from Ford Motor Co. in APRIL 2021. Today is May 27, 2022, and the manufacturer has failed to remedy this situation or even to contact me with a possible resolution date for this situation. My life and safety as the only driver of this vehicle is seriously at risk every time I am on the road. This is a most egregious situation and I demand immediate repair. CONCLUSION: I need to know exactly what is being done by the NHTSA and the manufacturer to fix this problem immediately. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My vehicles electric power assisted steering failed. Luckily my 8o year old wife was not at the wheel at the time! Ford is aware of the EPAS problem but earlier refused to correct the problem before it entered full failure mode! Dash Panel warning was displayed after the steering went into failure mode.
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while his great-nephew was driving at an unknown speed, the brakes failed. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The driver pumped on the brake pedal until the vehicle stopped. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the brake master cylinder, hydraulic module, and brake filler cap to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,077.
The electric power steering assist is failing. The car is becoming more difficult to steer and makes an intermittent grinding noise when turning the wheels. The problem is most noticeable at low speeds when making turns.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET MY POWER STEERING COMPLETELY GAVE OUT AND IT SAYS A WHOLE BUNCH OF STUFF ON THE DASH. I ALMOST WRECKED THE CAR BECAUSE IT VEERED OFF TO THE RIGHT. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TOW THE CAR HOME.
The contact's girlfriend owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that upon start-up of the vehicle, excessive effort was needed to steer the vehicle without warning; however, the power steering assist would return after a few minutes of driving. Recently, the contact stated that the power steering assist failed with the power steering assist fault warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had called the manufacturer and was referred to the local dealer for assistance. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where he was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) and that the warranty on the vehicle for the power steering was expired. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE A WARNING CAME ON STATING POWER ASSIST FAILURE. CAR HAD MANUAL STEERING ONLY. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT WENT AWAY WHEN THE CAR WAS RESTARTED. NO SUCH LUCK THIS TIME, WARNING STAYS ON AND NO POWER STEERING. LUCKILY I WAS ON STRAIGHT ROADS BOTH TIMES. I SEE THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NONE??
DUE TO THE RECALL OF THE STEERING GEAR WE HAD IT REPAIRED OCT 10 2018. THE VEHICLE HAD 94,430 MILES AND QUALIFIED UNDER THE RECALL. THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN 15,311 MILES AND THE SAME PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I ASKED IF THE PART HAS A WARRANTY I WAS TOLD 1 YR OR 12,000 MILES,SO THE REPAIR WOULD BE 1800.00. I ASKED IF THE SAME REPAIR WAS DONE WHAT KIND OF WARRANTY WOULD THERE BE. 2 YRS OR 50,000 MILES. MY CONCERN IS WHY THE RECALL PART IS ONLY WARRANTED FOR 12,000 AND THE NEW REPAIR WARRANTY IS 50,000. DID FORD INSTALL AN INFERIOR PART ON MY RECALL? THE VERY DANGEROUS RECALL PART THAT WAS PUT ON MY CAR LASTED BARELY OVER 15,000 MILE. I FIND THIS VERY ALARMING TO THINK THAT LIKE I THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DRIVING AN UNSAFE CAR PUTTING THEMSELVES AND OTHER ON THE ROADS AT RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH! YOU CANNOT STEER THE CAR WHEN THE PART FAULTS.
AS I WAS DRIVING A LOW TRACTION WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE STEERING BECAME IMPOSSIBLE WHILE PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND WENT THROUGH OUR GRASS LEAVING RUTS IN IT. APPARENTLY ONCE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND A WARNING SIGN CAME ON IN VEHICLE IT NOW WILL NOT GO OFF AND ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. THERE IS A RECALL ON CERTAIN VIN CARS OF OUR MAKE, YEAR AND MODEL HOWEVER NOT SPECIFICALLY OURS. IT IS OBVIOUS IT IS DUE TO THE SAME FAULTY POWER STEERING COMPUTER THING.
GETTING POWER STEERING ASSIST CODE. WAS ABLE TO TURN CAR OFF AND RESTART AND IT WOULD CLEAR THUS ALLOWING THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN AS EXPECTED. BUT NOW IT WON'T CLEAR. LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE CAR FROM 7-ELEVEN TO WORK WHICH WAS NOT TOO FAR FROM MY JOB. WHEN LOOKING UP ISSUE ON LINE I CAME ACROSS RECALL, BUT WHEN I LOOKED UP MY VIN IT SAYS THERE ARE NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE!!! THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW SO MANY CARS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM YET RECALL IS NOT BEING HONORED. AGAIN AT HIGH SPEEDS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.
POWER STEERING CONTINUALLY GOES OUT. HAVE ALREADY HAD WORK DONE FOR IT AND STILL GOES OUT. HAVE SEEN RECALL FOR POWER STEERING BUT WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. NOT SURE WHY SINCE VEHICLE IS 2011 MERCURY MILAN AND RECALL 15V340000 ALSO LISTS THIS VEHICLE, BUT VIN DOES NOT SHOW IN RECALL SYSTEM?? NEED TO BE FIXED.. DANGEROUS AND HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE AN INFANT WHEN STEERING INTERMITTENTLY GOES OUT

POWER STEERING STOPPED WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE. I NOTICED MANY 2011 MILIAN'S MANUFACTURED JUST ABOUT THE MINE WAS BUILT HAVE THIS MAJOR RECALL. WHEN I PUT MY VIN IN MY DOES NOT COME UP WITH THE VERY COMMON RECALL. I COULD HAVE INJURED MY BABY AND OTHERS AROUND ME. THIS IS SERIOUS! WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MERCURY MILAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING ABILITY AND 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE' APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW MINUTES. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE HOME. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWO OTHER TIMES. POWER STEERING HAS FAILED WITH "POWER STEERING FAULT" NOTICE IN DASHBOARD. THIS HAPPENED AS I STARTED THE CAR. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND IT IS COVERED BY A REAL (#15S18) BUT FORD DOES NOT HAVE MY CAR REGISTERED FOR THIS RECALL.
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY STEERING STOPPED AND A MESSAGE POPPED UP POWER STEERING SERVICE NOW SERVICE ADVANCETRAC ALSO MY TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO PULL THE CAR OVER WHICH WAS VERY DIFFICULT BECAUSE I HAD VERY LIMITED STEERING BUT THANK GOD IT WAS LATER AT NIGHT AND NOT MUCH TRAFFIC. I HAD THE CAR TOWED WHICH I FOUND OUT IT WAS THE POWER STEERING THAT HAD FAILED AND THE POWER STEERING IS ELECTRICAL. UPON RESEARCH AND REPORTING THIS TO THE NHTSA. I HAVE SEEN THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND HAS ALREADY HAD A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE EXCEPT THE RECALL IS NOT VALID FOR MY VEHICLE AND MANY OTHERS WHO COMPLAIN OF THIS SAME ISSUE. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE LIKE THIS AND IT IS VERY HARD TO CONTROL WHERE THE CAR IS GOING. THEY NEED TO EXPAND THIS RECALL IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND IS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR THIS REPAIR COSTS ANYWHERE FROM $2000- $2,300 AND IS GOING TO CREATE SO MUCH HARDSHIP FOR MY FAMILY TO GET THIS REPAIR DONE. I AM HOPING YOU WILL LOOK INTO THIS AND OPEN ANOTHER INVESTIGATION AND EXPAND THE RECALL JUST AS YOU DID WITH THE AIRBAG RECALL THAT MY CAR WAS ALSO NOT A PART OF LAST YEAR YET IT IS A PART OF THE RECALL THIS YEAR FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. I WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER FORD EVER AGAIN I HAVE ONLY THREE FORD IN MY LIFETIME AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT CONSTANT ISSUES WITH ALL OF THEM. FORD DOES NOT LIKE ACCEPTING THEIR MISTAKES AND THEY NEED TO REALIZE THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT EXIST WITH ALL OF THESE MODELS NOT JUST SOME OF THEM.
POWER STEERING ASSIST AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND LOST POWER STEERING CAUSING MAJOR UNSAFE CONDITION. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE BUT WITH GREAT AMOUNT OF DIFFICULTY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. TOOK VEHICLE A SHOP WHERE THEY GOT A CODE OF U3000-96 THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2011 MERCURY MILAN'S 15V340000 IT COVERS VEHICLES MADE 9/2010-2/2012 MY MILAN WAS BUILT 3/2010 YET NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL EVEN THOUGH MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE CLAIMED THE SPECIFIC POWER STEERING ASSIST FEATURE FAILED IN THEIR CARS AS WELL. WHAT IS ONES RECOURSE AS THERE IS CLEARLY A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPONENT: THANK YOU
RIGHT REAR BRAKE LIGHT DOESN'T WORK AT ALL NOW. HAD BEEN WORKING OFF AND ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS BUT EVERY TIME I HAD IT LOOKED AT, IT WORKED. NOW COMPLETELY INOP. TOOK CAR TO HAROLD ZIGLER FORD IN ELKHART FOR RECALL 19S01 AND THEY LOOKED AT BRAKE LIGHT AND SAID I NEEDED THE COMPLETE HOUSING REPLACED FOR OVER $400???? LOOKED UP RECALL 14M03 FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND I NEED IT FIXED UNDER THIS RECALL ASAP. WHY DIDN'T DEALERSHIP OFFER THIS FIX? THANK YOU I. ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS FAULTY AND IT REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE TO STEER. THE FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO HIS FRONT YARD UPON ENTERING THE DRIVEWAY. THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST" MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
DURING A WINTERY MORNING I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN WENT OFF. BRAKING WAS ONLY NORMAL NOT URGENT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. AFTERWARDS THE BREAK PEDAL TRAVEL HAS INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY AND HAVE BECOME SPONGY. BRAKING DISTANCE HAS INCREASED DRAMATICALLY. SAFETY IS A BIG ISSUE HERE BECAUSE AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH I'VE LEARNED THAT THIS IS ACTUALLY BECOMING A TYPICAL ISSUE FOR ANYONE WHO OWNS THIS CAR OR A FORD FUSION. MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME THAT IT IS PROBABLY THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL MODULE WHICH IS PART OF THE ABS SYSTEM AND SURE ENOUGH I BELIEVE THEY ARE CORRECT. I CALLED THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND PARTS AND LABOR COME TO ABOUT $1,700.00!!! THIS PART SHOULD NOT FAIL AND IF IT DOES A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED BECAUSE I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS COMPLAINT.
STARTED CAR AND WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON SAYING "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". AND STEERING BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. I FOUND OUT THAT MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE POWER STEERING RECALL. I AM CONCERNED THE STEERING WILL GO OUT WHILE DRIVING, AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO GET THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED, AND IT SHOULD BE FORD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO INCLUDE ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES IN THEIR RECALL. MY MILAN HAS ABOUT 66,000 MILES.
SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN BRAKING, PEDAL DESCENDS APPROXIMATELY 75% BEFORE PEDAL PRESSURE BECOMES FIRM. THIS OCCURS WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR NOT. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED BUT DID NOT SOLVE THE SOFT BRAKE PEDAL ISSUE. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SAFELY DRIVEN IN IT'S PRESENT CONDITION. FORD DIAGNOSIS WAS TO REPLACE THE ABS CONTROL MODULE AND ABS PUMP. THE TOTAL COST FOR THIS REPAIR IS $3,000.00. I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS INVOLVING FORD AND ABS SYSTEM REPAIRS.
ELECTRONIC STEERING RACK AND PINION CAUSED CAR TO LOSE STEERING. SOME 2011 MODELS HAVE PREVIOUSLY HAD THIS CONCERN. FIRST THE ABS BRAKE STARTED PULSATING THAN CHECK BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND THAN CAR LOST THE POWER STEERING. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSTICS SHOW THE ELECTRONIC STEERING RACK AND PINION HAS STOPPED WORKING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MERCURY MILAN. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING BECAME INOPERABLE INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING) AT BILL COLD FORD LINCOLN (2119 GREENUP AVE, ASHLAND, KY 41101, 606-329-2120); HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY SERVICED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000. *TT CONSUMER STATED POWER STEERING WAS DEFECTIVE. UPDATED 12/11/18*JB
SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW MESSAGE CAME UP. ALONG WITH SERVIVE ADVANCETRAC MESSAGE. POWER STEERING IS OUT COMPLETELY BUT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY SPECIFIC VIN. WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. FORD NEEDS TO RECOGNIZE THAT THEIR ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST IS FAULTY. NOT JUST IN SOME VEHICLES BUT ALL WITH THIS SYSTEM.
