This vehicle is has a power train problem from day one with the 5R55S/W transmission and AWD transfer case. I purchased this vehicle where it stranded my family over 200 miles from home and it's a non running car. This vehicle should have been removed from being sold with this defect and crushed! I will never buy a FoundOnRoad Dead ford pos ever. The transmission went into neutral with out any notice. To repair the faulty drive train I will cost me aprox $2400.00 mileage 152,000 third time the drive train has been worked on.. There tranmissions were failing in a little as 50,000 miles.
MY WINDOWS WERE ROLLING DOWN WHEN I FIRST THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN STOPPED ROLLING DOWN
TAKATA RECALL AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON... ALL THE TIME GRINDING NOISES WHILE TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT SOUNDS LIKE GEARS ARE FREELY SPINNING WHILE ENGAGED AND DRIVING. NO ISSUES WITH CHANGING GEARS AS FAR AS MECHANIC SAYS.
OPERATING THE TAILGATE WINDOW HINGES BROKE OFF SCREWS APPEARED TO HAVE SEVERE CORROSION VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY
HUMMING IN FRONT AT ALL SPEEDS FT WHEEL BEARINGS WHERE BAD. NOW RIGHT REAR BEARING MAKING NOISE. VERY LOOSE . LOTS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE NEED TO BE LOOKED AT
1. PAINT COMING OFF OF ROOF AND DRIVER'S DOOR. 2. REAR PASSENGER SIDE AND DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOWS NOT WORKING. 3. CRACKS IN PLASTIC AREA OF REAR LIFT GATE AROUND WIPER ARM. 4. ALMOST LOST CONTROL AND POTENTIAL ACCIDENT ON INTERSTATE WHEN RIGHT REAR WHEEL CAME LOOSE.
THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS!! RIGHT HINGE BROKE WHICH DROPPED RIGHT SIDE OF GLASS PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE GLASS WHICH MADE IT EXPLODE. GLASS COVERED ME WITH A FEW MINIMAL CUTS
MY SON WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON AUGUST 6, 2015. SOMETHING HAPPENED, AND HE RAN OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE. AT THAT POINT THE AIRBAG COVER FLEW TOTALLY OFF, INSTEAD AND FALLING DOWN AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO. THE COVER ITSELF GASHED MY SONS FOREHEAD FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, AND HE LOST HIS RIGHT EYE. THIS IS A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. THE AIRBAGS CAME OUT SO FAST THAT THEY HAD BURN MARKS ON THEM. THESE AIRBAGS WERE SUPPOSED TO SAVE PEOPLES LIVES INSTEAD OF MANGLING THEIR FACES. SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS HORRIFIC ACT....01/04/17 *BF *TR *CN
REAR TAILGATE WINDOW HINGE BROKE WHILE HAVING THE WINDOW ONLY OPEN AND PUTTING AWAY GROCERIES. UPON CLOSING THE WINDOW, THE RIGHT HINGE BROKE CAUSING THE WINDOW TO ALMOST FALL OFF OF THE CAR. I ATTEMPTED, WITH ASSISTANCE FROM OTHERS IN THE PARKING LOT, TO PUSH THE WINDOW BACK INTO THE FRAME AND HAVE IT LOCK AT THE CENTER LATCH. THE LATCH IS NO LONGER ENGAGED AND I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO PUSH ON THE WINDOW TO CONNECT WITH THE LATCH. I AM NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO DO SO. THE WINDOW IS AT A POINT WHERE IT COULD FALL OFF OF MY CAR. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PART FOR 2000-2003 VEHICLES OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL. FORD IS NOT CARRYING OVER THE RECALL TO 2004 STATING THE DEFECT IS NOT THE SAME (WITH THE DETAILS) AS THE RECALL ITSELF. IT IS STILL THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART! I AM OF SHORT STATURE AND DO NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO PUSH THE WINDOW THE 1" OR SO TO GET IT INTO THE FRAME TO LOCK SUCCESSFULLY. I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR ADVICE BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD I WOULD NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. I AM AT RISK OF HAVING THE WINDOW FALL OFF THE BACK OF MY CAR AND DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR AT THIS TIME. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS NOTED FOR THIS EQUIPMENT FAILURE ON THIS SITE FOR THE 2004 MOUNTAINEER. JUST NOT SURE WHAT TO DO NEXT. MY VEHICLE IS MY BREAD AND BUTTER IN ORDER TO WORK.
MY VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. NO WARNING, LOSES POWER STEERING, LOSES POWER BRAKES. IT WILL START RIGH BACK UP ONCE I SHIFT INTO PARK. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND TEMPERATURES. I COULD HAVE JUST GOT IN THE CAR OR BEEN DRIVING FOR HOURS. HAPPENS AT 15MPH AND 60MPH JUST THE SAME. HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND OF SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED.
WHILE MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON IN A 30 -40 MPH ZONE, SEVERAL LIGHTS CAME ON, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. SHE WAS ON A SMALL 2 LANE ROAD, AND THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE OCCURRENCE. SHE WAS VERY SCARED, SHE TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND CALLED ME IMMEDIATELY. THE VEHICLE THEN RESTARTED AND SHE DROVE HOME. TODAY (JAN. 5, 2016) THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, FORTUNATELY IN A SLOW SPEED ZONE AGAIN. SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE DRIVING. THIS PROBLEM IS POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER, OR THEY NEED TO OFFER A BUY BACK AT FULL VALUE FOR PLACING PEOPLE AT RISK.
REAR LIFT GATE WINDOW HINGES RUSTED/CORRODED. HINGES HAVE BROKEN CAUSING WINDOW TO SHIFT AND MOVE.
ENGINE DIED HAS REPEATED ONLY A FEW TIMES AT OR ABOVE 50MPH OVER SPAN OF TIME

THIS VEHICLE IDLES VERY LOW AND STALLS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. NO WARNING IS GIVEN ENGINE JUST SHUTS DOWN. SPARK PLUGS HAVE BLOWN TOTALLY OUT FROM THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES.
DRIVING AT APPRX 50 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR CURTAINS DEPLOYED!! THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. NO IMPACT FROM OBJECTS. NO POT HOLES OR ROAD HAZARDS. NO WARNINGS JUST A LOUD BANG AND THE NEXT THING I KNEW I WAS HIT IN THE HEAD BY AN AIRBAG!! I HAD NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED. I THOUGHT I WAS STRUCK OR SHOT AT FIRST! I WAS FORTUNATE TO KEEP THE CAR UNDER MY CONTROL AS I WAS ON A TWO LANE SURFACE STREET IN MORNING TRAFFIC. I AM CURRENTLY IN CONTACT WITH FORD TO ATTEMPT RESOLUTION FOR THE DEFECT. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A SAFETY RECALL SHOULD BE CONSIDERED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT WAS RESTARTED. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE PAST 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER TRAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I TOOK MY CHILDREN TO DAYCARE CAME HOME AND PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. I CAME BACK OUT TWO MINUTES LATER AND THERE IS GLASS ALL OVER. THE BACK HATCH WINDOW EXPLODED, IT LOOKS LIKE IT GOT REALLY HOT AS SOME OF THE PLASTIC TRIM IS MELTED. *TR

REAR HATCH HINGE BROKE WHILE OPENING BACK GLASS OF HATCH, NEARLY FELL ON SPOUSE WHILE OPENING. *TR
PLASTIC/FIBERGLASS LIFTGATE CRACKED AROUND EMBLEM. THIS PROBLEM STARTED A FEW YEARS AGO AND HAS COMPLETELY CRACKED IN HALF. FORD EXPLORER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND HALF OF IT FLEW OFF WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE IN COMMUTE TRAFFIC....SEEMS THIS WOULD POTENTIALLY OPEN FAMILY MEMBER UP TO LEGAL LITIGATION IF THIS PART CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND SIMILAR WITH DIFFERENT NAME PLATE. THIS IS THE SECOND VEHICLE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO IN OUR FAMILY. FIRST A FORD EXPLORER XLT AND NOW THE MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS ELECTED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED! WE WERE DRIVING WHEN MY HUSBAND SET THE CRUISE CONTROL AND IT STALLED OUR VEHICLE! HE SET IT FOR 45 MPH AND IT JUST SHUT THE CAR DOWN! THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WE SET IT FOR 35 MPH AND IT STALLED THE VEHICLE WE NOTIFIED THE COMPANY WE GOT THE CAR FROM AND THEY TOLD US THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT WHEN THEY DROVE IT AND SET THE CRUISE CONTROL! USING CRUISE CONTROL GOING DOWN A SLIGHT GRADE THE ENGINE DIED. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS, SO NOW I KNOW TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NETURAL WHILE STILL MOVING AND RE-START THE ENGINE, THEN PULL BACK DOWN INTO DRIVE. THIS ISN'T EASY TO DO, SO BE CAREFUL NOT TO PUT IN REVERSE OR PARK WHILE TRYING TO RE-START THE ENGINE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND THE AXLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,530 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 131,619.

THE BEST WE CAN TELL IS THAT THE RIGHT STRUT/ARM SEIZED AND THE HINGE PINS BROKE, CAUSING THE HATCH TO FALL OFF. WE DON'T HAVE IT IN THE SHOP YET. THE CONTACT WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
04 MOUNTAINEER CLUSTER GAUGE BLACKS OUT THEN METER GAUGE FLICKERS. WAITED FOR 10 MIN I'M PARKING LOT THEN IT COMES ON. STARTED TO DRIVE THEN ABOUT A MILE INTO DRIVING IT SHUTS DOWN. MIND YOU MY SUV WAS STILL GOING BUT GAUGES SHUT DOWN THEN MY LIGHTS GO OFF, THEN MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS GO. BY THE GRACE OF GOT I GOT HOME. WHILE ON ROAD MY ENGINE WAS STRUGGLING. HELP BEFORE THAT INCIDENT I HAD JUST REPLACE THERMOSTAT HOUSING BECAUSE IT CRACKED AND I WAS LOOSING COOLANT. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE LINER AROUND THE WINDOWS AND THE SAFETY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS WILL NOW BE THE 5TH TIME WE HAVE REPLACED A BALL BEARING IN THIS [XXX] TRUCK ... THE FRONT DRIVER TWICE THE FRONT PASSENGER ONCE AND NOW THIS IS THE SECOND TIME FOR THE BACK DRIVER! REAR GLASS TAIL GATE HATCH HINGE - THE HINGE PIN WAS COMING OUT THROUGH THE POT METAL CASTING. EVERY TIME I OPENED IT WORE A BIT MORE. HINGE WAS TWISTED - GLASS HUNG DOWN OUT OF POSITION. I WAS AFRAID IT WOULD FAIL ON THE ROAD AND INJURE A CAR BEHIND ME. I BOUGHT A NEW DEALER HINGE AND INSTALLED IT MYSELF. PARTS AND SERVICE PEOPLE AT DEALER NEGLECTED TO TELL ME TO DISCONNECT THE GAS CYLINDERS. WITH TAILGATE CLOSED GAS CYLINDERS ARE NOT VISIBLE. I REMOVED THE BAD HINGE IN PREPARATION TO INSTALL NEW. THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING BETWEEN GEARS, REVVING WAY HIGHER THAN NORMAL TO SHIFT AND WON'T GO INTO OVERDRIVE. MY RESEARCH OF THE PROBLEM SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON FORD AND MERCURY VEHICLES IN THIS YEAR RANGE. *TR
AFTER REVERSING APPROXIMATELY 6 FT IN MY DRIVEWAY I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND BEFORE TAKING MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED IN THE FRONT SEAT WHERE MY 14 YEAR OLD WAS SITTING. NO ACCIDENT, NO POTHOLES, NOT EVEN MOVING, NO REASON AT ALL THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2004 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER FIRST THE REAR LIFTGATE PLASTIC BROKE AND THERE'S A CRACK BY THE EMBLEM ON SOME OCCASIONS WHEN PUT IN REVERSE IT MAKES A LOUD BANG NOISE OR WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE BUT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THAT ON THE HIGHWAY UP TO 50MPH AND OVER THERE SEEMS TO BE A RATTLE UNDER THE ENGINE AND IT GETS LOUDER WHEN MPH IS HIGHER IM NOT SURE WHAT IT IS BUT IM REALLY WORRIED THAT IT MAYBE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND IF THIS PROBLEM ISN'T RECALLED ME AND MY FAMILY PLUS OTHERS ARE IN REALLY BIG DANGER ITS A FAMILY CAR SO IM STARTING TO WORRY FOR MY FAMILY AND THERE SAFETY THESE VEHICLES NEED TO GO ON INSPECTION AND SOON SO THESE DOESN'T LEAD TO ANY ACCIDENTS. *TR

REAR LIFT GATE IS FRACTURED FROM THE WINDOW DOWN AROUND AND THROUGH THE EMBLEM. THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THE HINGE PIN ON THE REAR LIFT GATE WINDOW ON MY 2004 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER SNAPPED. FORTUNATELY, THE RIGHT SIDE HINGE HELD, PREVENTING THE ENTIRE WINDOW FROM FALLING TO THE GROUND. I DID MANAGE TO GET IT CLOSED DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE ENTIRE LIFT GATE SLIPPED DOWNWARD FROM ITS PROPER POSITION. THIS SEEMS LIKE A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE ADDED STRESS COULD EASILY BREAK THE OTHER HINGE. *TR
WAS LOOKING AT MY VEHICLE WHEN I NOTICED THE CRACK FROM THE TOP TO BOTTOM OF LIFT GATE, NEXT TO MERCURY EMBLEM. NO ACCIDENT OR COLLISION, IT WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER READING ONLINE THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THE SAME EXACT OCCURRENCE ON THE LIFT GATES OF FORDS, MERCURY AND LINCOLNS. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL IN FAIRNESS SO THAT WE MAY ALL HAVE OUR VEHICLES REPAIRED!
