INVOICE TICKET 3311383 PHONE# 678-797-0447 SO [XXX] ARE DRIVING FROM ATLANTA TO HOUSTON ON I-20 INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, WHEN IN TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA THE KUMHO TIRE EXPLODES AND PAM BARNWELL IS DRIVING TRYING EVERYTHING TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE MINI COOPER NOW THE FRONT LEFT TIRE IS NOW JUST A RIM AND WITH RIM DAMAGE. [XXX] ARE SHAKEN AND FRIGHTENED BUT UNHARMED ONLY BECAUSE PAM IS MORE EXPERIENCED DRIVER. SO WE HAVE FILED CLAIMS WITH BOTH KUMHO AND DISCOUNT TIRE AND BEEN DENIED REPLACEMENT AND OR REFUND! THERE IS TOWING CHARGES, HOTEL CHARGES, RIM REPLACEMENT CHARGES, TIRE REPLACEMENT AND LABOR CHARGES THAT [XXX] INCURRED. TWO ALABAMA STATE TROOPERS WERE ON THE SCENE AND COULD NOT BELIEVE THE TIRE WAS BRAND NEW AND THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE TIRE AND RIM. THEIR NAMES ARE MOORE AND ROGERS. WILLIAM SULCA WITH KUMHO TIRE USA CLAIM DEPARTMENT 800-445-8646 EXT 358 DENIED OUR CLAIM AND HAS NOT RETURNED THE TIRE WE SENT TO HIM FOR THEIR DETERMINATION EVEN THOUGH WE REQUESTED THE TIRE BE RETURNED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MINI COOPER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT SPORADICALLY ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MINI COOPER S. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO COOL DOWN SO THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN A FEW MILES WITHOUT IT OVERHEATING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 7,400. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,234. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
YESTERDAY MY 23-YEAR DAUGHTER EXPERIENCED A DANGEROUS INCIDENT, WITH BURSTING OF THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL TIRE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. SHE ALMOST KILLED HERSELF. IT IS A NEW CAR (MINI COOPER, 2008) WITH ONLY 11,000 MILES TRAVELED. THE AAA WHICH WAS CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE DID NOT FIND ANY SIGN OF EXTERNAL PERFORATION AND THOUGHT THAT IT WAS AN EXPLOSION OF THE TIRE. *TR
2008 MINI COOPER S SPONTANEOUS ENGINE FIRE 10/02. I HAD JUST RETURNED HOME FROM WORK AND I HAD DRIVEN THE CAR FOR ABOUT 45MINS AND THEN 10MINS AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR DOWN A FIRE HAD STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *TR

TAILPIPE BURNED LEG WHILE GETTING ITEMS OUT OF TRUNK OF 2008 MINI COOPER 2 DOOR SEDAN. *TR
FAULTY PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR WHEN AN ADULT PASSENGER WEIGHING BETWEEN 130 AND 140 LBS SITS. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM TURNS OFF AND THERE IS NO WAY TO OVERRIDE THIS AUTOMATIC SENSOR. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP MINI (SAN ANTONIO) TWO TIMES WITH NO RESOLUTION. MINI STATES THERE IS NO ERROR FROM THE SYSTEM, SO THEY CANNOT REPLACE THIS SENSOR. I DEMONSTRATED THE ISSUE TO SEVERAL PEOPLE AT THE MINI DEALERSHIP BUT STILL NO RESOLUTION. *TR
NOISE IN ENGINE AFTER COLD START. ENGINE WAS REPLACED BY MINI OF PEABODY MA AFTER A INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE. THIS IS A 2008 COOPER S JCW AND THE ENGINE HAS BEEN NOISY SINCE IT WAS REPLACED. NOISE GOES AWAY AFTER IT WARMS UP. DEALER TELLS ME NOTHING IS WRONG. ORIGINAL ENGINE FAILED AT 8,000 MILES AND SO DID THE TRANSMISSION AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. NOW AT 17,000 MILES TRANSMISSION OK BUT ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS KNOCKING AT START UP. *TR

CAR WILL NOT START, LEAVING YOU STRANDED. PUSHING IN CLUTCH THEN START BUTTON, AND NOTHING. FIRST TIME WAS 5 WEEKS AGO, TOWED TO DEALER, DID TESTS, FOUND NO PROBLEM. HAPPENED AGAIN ON 4/23/2009, GIGGLED DEAD MAN SWITCH ON CLUTCH PEDAL AND THEN STARTED. HAPPENED AGAIN 4/27/2009, TRIED GIGGLE THING, NOTHING THIS TIME. SAT OVERNIGHT, THEN STARTED. ONLY COMMON FACTOR HAS BEEN ON WARM SPRING DAYS AROUND 90 DEGREES. WILL BE TAKING BACK TO DEALER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MINI COOPER S. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CLUTCH FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE CENTER OF AN INTERSECTION. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO ABUSIVE OPERATION OF THE CLUTCH. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE DEFECTIVE COMPONENT IS NOT COVERED IN THE SERVICE WARRANTY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 11,000.
MY 2008 MINI COOPER S, WHEN COLD, OFTEN STARTS UP WITH A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF RATTLING FROM THE ENGINE. SO MUCH SO THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL (BUT ITS NOT A DIESEL MOTOR). NUMEROUS ONLINE FORUMS HAVE DOCUMENTED THIS PROBLEM, INCLUDING SOME COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURES. IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PROBLEM TO FIX AND I WOULD LIKE MINI TO ISSUE A RECALL TO PERMANENTLY FIX THE PROBLEM AND TO HAVE AN UNLIMITED WARRANTY ON THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2008 MINI COOPER SPEEDOMETER IS OFF BY APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES AN HOUR. SO THAT IF I AM ACTUALLY DRIVING AT 50 MPH THE SPEEDOMETER WILL SHOW 56 MPH. ADDITIONALLY, IF I DRIVE 100 MILES, THE ODOMETER WILL ACTUALLY SHOW AS IF I DROVE 106 MILES. THIS IS BOTH A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE INSTRUMENTATION IS WRONG, AS WELL AS A FRAUD ISSUE AS THE CAR LOSES VALUE BECAUSE OF THE PERCEIVED ADDITIONAL MILES DRIVEN AND WOULD BE OUT OF WARRANTY SOONER BECAUSE OF THE PERCEIVED MILEAGE AMOUNT. ALSO, IF THIS WERE A LEASE AND I WENT OVER THE AMOUNT ALLOTTED BY SAID LEASE, MINI WOULD PENALIZE THE DRIVE PER THE MILEAGE. BMW/MINI HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND SAY ITS NOT A PROBLEM AS THEY GIVE ALOT OF LEEWAY FOR THE ACCURACY OF THE SPEEDOMETER. *TR
MY 2008 MINI COOPER S HAS A TERRIBLE RATTLING NOISE OCCASIONALLY DURING STARTUP. THE PROBLEM CAN BE REPRODUCED 100% OF THE TIME UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: - START CAR FOR SHORT PERIOD OF TIME (BACK OUT OF GARAGE / WASH CAR) - RESTART CAR FOR SHORT PERIOD OF TIME (MOVE INTO GARAGE) - LEAVE CAR FOR 8 OR MORE HOURS - RESTART AND DRIVE AWAY. FOR THE FIRST 2 MINUTES THERE'S A TERRIBLE RATTLING SOUND. *TR
PASSENGER AIRBAG DISABLED LIGHT ILLUMINATES WITH FULLGROWN ADULT (WEIGHING MORE THAN 160 POUNDS) PROPERLY SEATED WHILE WEARING SEATBELT. CAR HAS BEEN TO DEALER TWICE BEFORE TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND NEXT VISIT WILL BE THE THIRD TIME REPORTING THIS PROBLEM FOR REPAIR. *TR

IN EARLY DECEMBER 2008 MY WIFE WAS PUTTING ITEMS IN THE BACK OF THE MINI COOPER AND HER LEG TOUCHED THE EXHAUST, PIPE BURNING HER LEG. WE TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED US THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. ON A RECENT VISIT TO THE SERVICE CENTER THE NEW SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED US THAT THERE WAS A RECALL BUT NOT FOR THIS MODEL. WE ARE CONCERNED FROM A SAFETY STAND POINT. *TR

ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF 08 MINI COOPER S GETS SO HOT IT HAS MELT THE HOOD SCOOP. MY HOOD SCOOPING IS BOWING DOWN AND THE CAR HAS 2700 MILES ON IT. I SUGGEST A RECALL AND A HEAT SHIELD TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. TOO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE FORUMS. *TR
HERE IN OREGON THE ELECTRIC VEHICLES ARE SEVERELY RESTRICTED TO 20 MILES PER HOUR AND ONE CAN NOT GET A LICENSE TO DRIVE THEM ON THE STREETS. IN LIGHT OF GLOBAL WARMING THIS IS A DISGRACE. PEOPLE WILL NOT BUY VEHICLES THAT ARE SO SEVERELY RESTRICTED YET THE GOVERNMENT IS BRAGGING ABOUT HOW MUCH IT IS DOING FOR THE COUNTRY. I INTEND TO KEEP LOOKING FOR PROPER AGENCIES TO RESPOND TO THIS SERIOUS BREACH OF TRUST TO THE CITIZENS OF THIS NATION. I REQUEST A RESPONSE IN REGARDS TO WHAT STEPS YOU CAN TAKE AND WHAT HELP YOU MIGHT NEED FROM ME. I BOUGHT CAR NEW IN NOV 2007. CAR WAS USED AS TRANSPORTATION EVERY DAY TO AND FROM WORK (~100 MI TOTAL). CAR WAS WELL CARED FOR, SERVICE WAS PERFORMED AS REQUIRED, ETC. IN SEPT 2008 AFTER SITTING UNDRIVEN FOR 10 DAYS WHILE I WAS AWAY ON VACATION, I DROVE 50 MI TO WORK AND THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF TROUBLE EXCEPT THAT AN INDICATOR FOR A BLOWN HEADLAMP CAME ON WHEN I INITIALLY STARTED UP. WHEN I ARRIVED AT WORK AND PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE I NOTICED WISPS OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE GRILL AND INTAKE AND SUSPECTED OVERHEATING. I PEERED INTO THE INTAKE AND SAW GLOWING ORANGE, AND SMELLED THE SMOKE AND REALIZED THIS WAS A FIRE NOT AN OVERHEATING. I HAD A COLLEAGUE CALL 911 AND GRABBED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE CAR SMOKE WAS POURING OUT OF THE HOOD. NOT WANTING TO OPEN THE HOOD I AIMED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER INTO THE GRILL, INTAKE, AND GAPS BUT IT DIDN'T DO MUCH. AT THAT POINT I GRABBED VALUABLES FROM CAR AND WALKED AWAY. FLAMES BEGAN COMING OUT OF THE HOOD OVER THE WINDSHIELD. CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED WITHIN 10 MINUTES. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR PROPERTY DAMAGE EXCEPT FOR THE CAR ITSELF. INSURANCE DECLARED IT A TOTAL LOSS. MINI WAS NOTIFIED. I HAVE PHOTOS OF IN-PROGRESS AND AFTERMATH. HAVING SEEN THE RECENT PUBLICITY ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE ENGINE FIRES I THOUGHT I SHOULD LOG MY VERY RELEVANT EXPERIENCE. *TR
WE PURCHASED A 2008 MINI COOPER FOR MY DAUGHTER. LAST NIGHT WHILE SHE WAS PUTTING THINGS IN THE TRUNK, HER LEG GLANCED THE TAILPIPE AND SHE RECEIVED A PRETTY SIGNIFICANT BURN. I BORROWED MY FRIEND'S MINI COOPER S FOR THE WEEK TO TEST DRIVE IT. AS I WAS UNLOADING CARGO FROM THE TRUNK, MY LEG WAS BURNED WHEN IT TOUCHED THE EXHAUST TIP. YESTERDAY, I READ ABOUT AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE SAME PROBLEM ON EDMUNDS.COM. *TR
ON 9/3/08 I LEANED INTO THE REAR OF MY 2008 MINI COOPER TO RETRIEVE GROCERY BAGS AND MY BARE LEG (RIGHT LEG) CAME INTO CONTACT WITH THE TAIL PIPE OF THE VEHICLE. THE TAIL PIPE WAS HOT AS IN "LIKE A RED-HOT POKER" AND I RECEIVED AN EXTREMELY PAINFUL CRESCENT SHAPED BURN ON MY LOWER LEG FROM THE TAIL PIPE. THE TAIL PIPE PROTRUDES BEYOND THE BUMPER BY AT LEAST AN INCH. I MEASURED IT AND ON THE RIGHT SIDE IT MEASURES 2 AND ONE-HALF INCHES BEYOND THE BUMPER AND ON THE LEFT SIDE IT STICKS OUT ONE AND ONE-HALF INCHES BEYOND THE BUMPER. ON MY MINI COOPER, I HAVE ONE TAIL PIPE WHICH IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I REQUIRED TREATMENT AT AN EMERGENCY ROOM LESS THAN 36 HOURS LATER WHEN I BECAME CONCERNED THAT THE WOUND MAY BECOME INFECTED. THE ATTENDING DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT WOUND WAS HEALING WELL AND THAT IT WAS NOT INFECTED. I WAS PRESCRIBED 1% SILVER SULFADIAZINE CREAM (TOPICAL) TO TEND THE WOUND. *TR UPDATED 09/26/08. *JB

MY COMPLAINT IS NOT ABOUT AN ACCIDENT BUT RATHER AN UNSAFE CONDITION IN MY RELATIVELY NEW MINI COOPER. THE SIZE AND POSITION OF MY INTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR SIGNIFICANTLY OBSCURES THE VIEW OF THE ROAD ON RIGHT HAND TURNS (ESPECIALLY ON EXIT RAMPS). I THINK THAT THIS SHOULD BE CORRECTED. *TR

SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. NO IMPACT OR OTHER INCIDENT. SIMPLY DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 85 IN SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA. LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND, COVERED IN GLASS WITH HANGING SUNROOF. REPORTED INCIDENT TO 911 THEN TO CHP. NO ASSIGNABLE CAUSE.

WHILE REMOVING GROCERIES FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT BURNED HER LEG ON THE EXHAUST PIPE, WHICH WAS LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER GAVE HER THE NUMBER TO THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD GET BACK WITH HER. SINCE THAT TIME, THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. SHE WAS ADVISED TO NOT GET TOO CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 1,400. UPDATED 08/04/08.*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE DESIGN ITSELF WAS FLAWED. FULL-GROWN ADULT PASSENGERS (WEIGHING IN EXCESS OF 120 POUNDS) SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT CAUSES THE PASSENGER-SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, WHICH STATES, "PASSENGER-SIDE AIRBAG DISABLED". *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW MINI COOPER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION MONITOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE MONITOR. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED THE SAME REPAIR. THREE DAYS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER A THIRD TIME. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS BECAUSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE CANNOT BE DETERMINED. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND IS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 539.
