SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE: AT A VERY BUSY CALIFORNIA INTERSECTION, MY VEHICLE SIMPLY QUIT RUNNING, AT WHICH POINT I WAS ABLE TO RE START SAID VEHICLE AND "LIMP" IT TO A SAFE AREA, LUCKILY I MIGHT ADD. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO A SERVICE FACILITY WHERE THE MECHANIC FOUND A LOSE BATTERY CONNECTION IN WHICH HE THOUGHT HE SOLVED THE MECHANICAL PROBLEM. THE NEXT DAY TRAVELING DOWN HWY 50 IN THE SIERRA MOUNTAINS AT 65 MPH THE VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING AGAIN AND I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE AN EXIT NEARBY THAT I SAFELY COASTED THE DEAD VEHICLE INTO. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC. HE FOUND A FAULTY IPDM ( INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE ). UPON HIS RESEARCH AND MINE, THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM IN WHICH NISSAN IS NOT RESPONDING TO. IT SHOULD BE SAFETY ISSUE AND BE RECALLED BY NISSAN AND THE REPAIR SHOULD BE PERFORMED AT NO CHARGE FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. LETTER FROM SENATOR WARNER ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE AUTO PAINT CHIPPING-NISSAN FRONTIER TRUCK (ATTN: SHANE CLEM). *TGW THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE PAINT. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER FILING THE VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR ALSO WOULD NOT ADJUST TO SHOW AN ACCURATE READING OF FUEL LEVELS AND REMAINED ON EMPTY. AFTER CONSUMING APPROXIMATELY ONE-FOURTH OF GASOLINE, THE FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR THEN BEGAN TO READ FUEL LEVELS. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HIS VEHICLE AND ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR WHENEVER THE FUEL TANK WAS FILLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
NISSAN 2005 FRONTIER FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILURE. THIS CAUSED IMPROPER READINGS ON THE FUEL GAUGE. WHY WERE 2006 > RECALLED AND NOT 2005! REPLACED SENDING UNIT .
NISSAN FRONTIER 2007, FUEL GAUGE ERRATIC, NOT RELIABLE, UNSAFE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHEN STOPPING OR SLOWING DOWN. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. WHILE AT A RESTAURANT DRIVE-THRU, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ON ITS OWN AND CRASHED INTO A PILLAR. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS RIGHT KNEE AND BACK. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND IS WAITING FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO DECIDE IF THEY WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
THE LOWER HINGE ON MY 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER KING CAB PICK UP BROKE FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST TIME, IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 18,050 MILES AND THE MILEAGE AT THE SECOND OCCURRENCE IS 38, 567. I HAVE ALSO SEEN THAT MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING VERY SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THESE TAILGATES. IF THIS HINGE WAS TO BREAK WHILE THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING, IT IS CONCEIVABLE THAT THE TAILGATE COULD FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE AND/OR FALL OFF FROM ONE SIDE. THIS COULD POSE A SIGNIFICANT HAZARD TO THE VEHICLES BEHIND AND/OR TO THE VEHICLE ITSELF. I CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT REPAIRING THE TAILGATE AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FIX WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY. I WILL HAVE IT REPAIRED AT THE DEALER BUT HAVE BEEN GIVEN NO ASSURANCE THAT THE DESIGN HAS BEEN IMPROVED OR MODIFIED TO PREVENT ITS RECURRENCE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. AFTER FILLING UP THE VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EMPTY. THERE WERE NO FAILURES PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED HER TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR INSPECTED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL THE CONTACT BACK WITH AN UPDATE AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 55,000.
2005 NISSAN FRONTIER WITH M226 (DANA 44, V6 ENGINE) REAR END. THE AXLE SEALS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES ARE LEAKING AND OIL IS GETTING ON THE REAR BRAKES CAUSING THEM TO NOT WORK PROPERLY. I HAVE HAD NISSAN FIX THIS 2 TIMES (5/09 AND 8/09) AND IT STARTED LEAKING AGAIN 12/09. THAT MAKES THIS 3 TIMES IN UNDER A YEAR. THIS AXLE IS THE SAME AS USED IN NISSAN TITANS WHICH ARE ALSO EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. EACH TIME THE SEALS WERE REPLACED AND EACH TIME IT STARTED LEAKING WITHIN A MONTH OF THE REPAIR, TAKING A FEW MONTHS TO BECOME DANGEROUS AND GET ON THE BRAKE ROTORS. *TR
GAS GAUGE READS ALL OVER THE PLACE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, WON'T PASS INSPECTION EVEN THOUGH IT HAS NOTHING TO DO W/EMISSIONS....RAN OUT OF GAS ON I-95 - ALMOST RUN OVER. *TR
FUEL SENDING UNIT PROBLEM WITH MY 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. CAUSES FUEL GAUGE TO BE NON FUNCTIONAL. BASICALLY THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE IN MY TANK. PROBLEM STARTED AT 59000 MILES, I NOW HAVE 80000. NISSAN REFUSES TO FIX. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER THAT HAS A FAULT CODE OF PO463. NISSAN HAS RECALLED THE 2006-08 VEHICLES WITH THIS FAULTY FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. THEY ARE REFUSING TO REPAIR MINE BECAUSE IT IS A 2005 AND ARE REFUSING TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN OBVIOUS DEFECTIVE PART. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE LIKE ME WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM THAT ARE HAVING TO SPEND IN EXCESS OF $600.00. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL. I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS TWICE BECAUSE I THOUGHT I HAD ENOUGH FUEL WHEN INFACT I DID NOT. MY SON WAS DRIVING IT TO COLLEGE AT COLLEGE ON AUGUST 21ST WHEN HE THOUGHT HE HAD FUEL WHEN THE TRUCK WAS EMPTY. I'M AFRAID TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAPPEN SHOULD THE VEHICLE RUN OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. PLEASE WITH YOUR HELP AND PERSUASION, WE CAN GET NISSAN CORPORATION TO REPAIR ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. MY FUEL LEVEL GAUGE INDICATED I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS LEFT. I STOPPED AND FILLED IT WITH 17 GALLONS AT THE LOCAL SHELL GAS STATION. AFTER FILLING, AS I WAS LEAVING THE STATION I NOTICED MY FUEL GAUGE HAD NOT MOVED AND STILL DISPLAYED 1/4 OF A TANK. I ALSO NOTICED MY CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS ON. I WENT TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND A COMPUTER READ OUT INDICATED A BAD FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. AFTER A REVIEW ON THE INTERNET IT SEEMED TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN INTERNAL LEAK IN THE RADIATOR WHILE SPILLED ONTO THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSED IT TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
MY 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING ON AND THE GAS GAUGE DOES NOT WORK. I HAVE VERIFIED THAT THIS IS NOT SUBJECT TO A RECALL IN MY MODEL VEHICLE BUT IS SUBJECT TO AN EARLIER MODEL YR RECALL. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS GAUGE GOES TO EMPTY UNTIL I HAVE DRIVEN APPROX 125 MILE AND THEN IT GOES TO THREE QUARTERS OF A TANK. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS ISSUED SERVICE BULLETIN # NTB07-69A FOR ITS DEALERS BUT HAS NOT CHOSEN TO FIX THE ISSUE. *TR

MY NISSAN FRONTIER HIT A PATCH OF BLACK ICE, SKIDDED ACROSS TWO LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, HIT A LIGHT POLE AND SLAMMED INTO A DITCH EMBANKMENT AT 45-50 MPH. NEITHER THE DRIVER NOR PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *TR
SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. CODE SAYS IT IS A BAD FUEL SENSOR. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH NISSAN FRONTIERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH DURING RAINY WEATHER WHEN SHE UNEXPECTANTLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS FLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE CRASHING INTO A DITCH. THE POLICE ARRIVED TO ASSIST AND A REPORT WAS FILED. ONE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A LOWER BACK INJURY. ANOTHER PASSENGER SUSTAINED SHALLOW CUTS TO THE ARMS, FACE AND CHEST. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10E019000, SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER ARM AND STATED SHE BELIEVED THE RECALL WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. SHORTLY AFTER THE CRASH, THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE OFFICIAL RECALL LETTER WITH HER VEHICLE INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
2005 NISSAN FRONTIER GAS GAUGE DOSE NOT GIVE PROPER, READINGS DOES NOT READ FULL WHEN TANK IS FILL UP. SEEMS TO READ LOWER AMOUNTS AFTER EACH FILL UP . DON'T WANT TO RUN OUT OF GAS,MUST KEEP TRACK OF MILEAGE. JUST BOUGHT TRUCK IN DEC. OF 08, 28,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
ODDLY ENOUGH MY FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING AT 58K MILES OR SO. NOW I KNOW YOU THINK SO WHAT FIX IT. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THEY SEE ALL THE TIME. SO I LOOKED ONLINE, GOOGLED NISSAN FRONTIER FUEL SENDING UNIT, AND FOUND LITERALLY 1000'S OF OWNERS WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM ON DOZENS OF MESSAGE BOARDS. SO I CALLED A FEW MORE DEALERS AND REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING THAT I HAVE READ AND HEARD; THAT THEY WERE FIXING THEM ALL THE TIME. SO I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE PROBLEM IS SYSTEMIC TO ALL YEARS SINCE 01 FOR THE NISSAN FRONTIER AND XTERRA (THEY ARE ESSENTIALLY THE SAME VEHICLE- JUST SHAPED DIFFERENTLY). ANYWAY IF YOU CAN LIGHT A FIRE UNDER SOMEONE'S BUTT OVER THERE AT NISSAN TO INSTITUTE A RECALL I CERTAINLY WOULD APPRECIATE IT. *TR
UPON REACHING APPROXIMATELY 37,000 MILES ON MY 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER MY GAS GAUGE BEGAN ACTING WILDLY AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF TO INDICATE I HAD A BAD FUEL SENDING UNIT. CODE 0463. THE GAUGE WILL NOT REGISTER ANY FUEL WHEN THE TANK IS FULL OR WHEN IT'S NEAR EMPTY. WHEN THE TANK IS HALF FUEL THE GAUGE SEEMS TO WORK. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH IT APPEARS THAT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND NISSAN HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THERE IS A PROBLEM VIA SERVICE BULLETIN NTB07-069A. HOWEVER THEY HAVE NOT STEPPED UP TO RECALL THIS KNOWN FAULTY PART. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD AND I FEEL THAT NISSAN NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDING UNITS THEY PU IN MY TRUCK. IT APPEARS THAT MOST OF THESE FAILURES ARE HAPPENING NEAR THE 40K MARK SO NISSAN DOES NOT COVER THEM UNDER NORMAL WARRANTY. VERY CONVENIENT FOR THEM. *TR
TAILGATE BUSTED BRACKETS. I HAVE A 2005 FRONTIER CREW CAB WITH 28000 MILES. THIS WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW. I USE THIS VEHICLE FOR TRIPS AND HUNTING. NO HAULING, CONSTRUCTION OR OTHER HEAVY USE. MY 4 WHEELER WAS HAULED IN IT ABOUT 6 TIMES. WE DROVE TO THE MOUNTAINS AND JUST FINISHED UNLOADING OUR LUGGAGE. I WENT TO CLOSE THE GATE AND IT WOULDN'T CLOSE, UPON INVESTIGATING THE DRIVERS SIDE HINGE HAD CRACKS AND THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS CRACKED. MY TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 60 DAYS WHEN I SHOWED THE DEALER SERVICE PERSON. THEY SAID THEY NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE, EVEN ASKED HOW BIG THE DEER WAS I PUT ON THE GATE, AND IF SOMEONE WAS STANDING ON IT? I ASKED IF THEY WERE SERIOUS, AS THIS GATE SHOULD SUPPORT 1000 POUNDS! ANYWAY I WA LUCKY THAT NISSAN AGREED TO REPLACE THE 2 CRACKED BRACKETS ON THE BODY, THE 2 BRACKETS ON THE GATE AND A 3RD BRACKET I WASN'T EVEN AWARE OF UNTIL THE DEALER STATED HE HAD TO ORDER IT IN BEFORE IT COULD BE REPAIRED CORRECTLY. ANYWAY LIKE I STATED, THIS VEHICLE IS USED FOR EASY APPLICATIONS AND THE GATE USED VERY LITTLE. SOUNDS AND LOOKED LIKE A BAD DESIGN IMHO. *TR
COMMON PROBLEM. FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT WORK. AFTER PLENTY RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT PLENTY FRONTIER AND XTERRA OWNERS ARE HAVE PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNITS FAILING. STEALERSHIP WANT $400-$500 TO FIX THIS. I DO NOT HAVE MONEY FOR THIS AND DON'T WANT TO RUN OUT OF GAS AGAIN. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED. THEY RECALLED IT IS AUSTRAILA ON THE NISSAN NAVARA (SAME AS A FRONTIER), BUT I GUESS IT WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE FOR NISSAN TO MAN UP, AND WE WILL HAVE TO PAY. *TR

I HAD TO HAVE EMERGENCY SERVICE TO THE U-JOINTS. STRONG VIBRATION UNDER DRIVER SEAT, AFRAID TO DRIVE ANY FURTHER. PERUZZI NISSAN REFUSING TO REIMBURSE A WARRANTY PART. *TR
GEAR OIL LEAKING PAST BOTH REAR AXLE SEALS RESULTED IN INOPERATIVE PARKING BRAKE AND MINIMAL REGULAR REAR BRAKING. ACCIDENT WAS CAUSE WHEN CAR ROLLED INTO HOMEOWNERS GARAGE DOOR AFTER BEING LEFT RUNNING WITH THE PARKING BRAKE APPLIED. REPAIR IS TO CLEAN OIL FROM ALL CONTAMINATED SURFACES, REPLACE BOTH AXLE SEALS, REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SHOES ON BOTH SIDES, AND MAIN BRAKE PADS ON BOTH SIDE. *TR
2005 NISSAN FRONTIER: APPARENTLY, MANY NISSANS ARE SHOWING FAULTY FUEL SENDING/LEVEL UNITS (INCLUDING MY OWN). THEY CAUSE THE DRIVER TO HAVE AN NONFUNCTIONAL GAS GAUGE. DUE TO THIS FAULTY FACTORY PART, I RAN OUT OF GAS ON A SIX LANE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. WITH ALL THE NISSANS ON THE ROAD, I CAN IMAGINE MANY MAY RUN OUT OF FUEL IN LESS THAN SAFE SURROUNDINGS. PLEASE DO A RECALL!! *TR
NISSAN FRONTIERS AND XTERRAS (AND MAYBE OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES FROM NISSAN) ARE HAVING A STRONG RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT SENSOR GOING BAD AND DEALERSHIPS NOT COVERING THIS PART. I HAVE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED THIS SAME FAILURE, WHICH HAS HIT EVERYONE I KNOW WITH A 2005-PRESENT NISSAN FRONTIER. CLEARLY A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE, BECAUSE THIS IS TAGGING MANY, MANY OWNERS FOR A FACTORY DEFECTIVE PART/DESIGN. *TR

AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR AND THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED AFTER 30K MILES. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! WHY WAIT FOR ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE DEATHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PROBLEM LIES IN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. COST OF REPAIR RANGES FROM $300-600." *TR
"I CURRENTLY OWN A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER AND HAD LESS THAN A 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS IN MY FUEL TANK AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK BUT SHOWED THAT THE TANK WAS EMPTY WITH THE WARNING LOW GAS LIGHT WAS ON. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE XTERRA MODELS, PATHFINDERS AND FRONTIERS. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. I OPENED THE HOOD OF MY 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER TO CHECK THE BATTERY, AND WHEN I CLOSED IT THE HOOD LATCH FELL OFF. AS A RESULT I WAS NOT ABLE TO EVACUATE FOR 2 MANDATORY HURRICANE EVACUATIONS.
