I PURCHASED AN 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SE AND HAVE EXPERIENCING A JERKING PROBLEM ON THE TRANSMISSION. I FEEL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DRIVING THIS CAR AS IT WILL NOT SPEED AND ACCELERATE AND DECELERATE AT A NORMAL SPEED. *TR
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HARD SHIFT BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND. DELAYED ENGAGEMENT FROM 2ND TO 3RD THE WILL DROP A GEAR ALMOST COME TO A STOP WITH HIGH RPM. HARD SHIFTS ARE VIOLENT AND START AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING. HAVE BEEN MAKING DUE WITH MANUAL SHIFT BUT NOW IS NOT ENGAGING IN OVERDRIVE. CAR WILL DROP OUT OF OVERDRIVE NOT ALLOWING HIGHWAY SPEED. VEHICLE WILL STAY IN 5TH GEAR EVEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THEN MOVING AGAIN. WILL NOT DROP DOWN A GEAR. HAVE TO PULL OVER TO SET THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THE CAR TO GET IT OUT OF 5TH GEAR. CAR HAS ACTUALLY STALLED SLOWING TO A STOP LIGHT OR TRAFFIC. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION IN TEXAS BECAUSE CODE SAYS TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND TO PASS I MUST NOW SPEND $2500 FOR REBUILT OR $4500+ FOR NEW. THIS IS A TOTAL MECHANICAL ERROR WHICH NISSAN IS NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY AND IS AN ACTUAL SAFETY HAZARD WHEN THE CAR DIES AT SPEED AND DOWNSHIFT CAN BE SO VIOLENT THAT YOU DROP 10 MPH IMMEDIATELY AND CAUSES STEERING ISSUES TO CONTROL THE JOLT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT I BOUGHT IN 2010 WITH 87,000 MILES, I HAD THE CAR FOR 5-6 MONTHS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN OUT WAS TOLD THIS WAS DUE TO A FAULTY VALUE BODY ON THIS MODEL. I CALLED NISSAN CORPORATE AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO. I THEN SPENT $3,000 DOLLARS OUT OF MY POCKET TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AND THAT HELPED FOR A YEAR AND HALF. WHEN THE MAXIMA HIT APPROX 130,000 MILES THE HARD SHIFTING, HANGING IN GEAR, POPPING OF THE TRANSMISSION RETURNED. THIS CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL COST A LOT TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. I FEEL THIS IS DEFECTIVE PARTS PUT TO USE BY NISSAN AND THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR
TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH 1ST TO 2ND GEAR SHIFT. THE PROBLEM OCCURS DAILY AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND NISSAN WILL NOT FIX OR REPLACE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 105000 MILES ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT HARD FROM 1ST TO 2ND. ALSO FAILS TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE FROM DRIVE. DOWN SHIFTS FROM 3RD TO 2ND ARE EXTREMELY HARD. YOU HAVE TO DRIVE SLOW TO KEEP FROM BREAKING SOMETHING. THIS ALL A CURES WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS HOT. I HAVE DRAINED AND REPLACED THE FLUID SIX TIMES. YOU CAN ONLY REPLACE 4.5 QUARTS EACH TIME. I ALSO HAD THE COOLANT SYSTEM PROFESSIONALLY FLUSHED. I STILL HAVE THE SAME. *TR
TRANSMISSION STARTED TO FELL SLIPPING AT 60,000 MILES. SLIPPING AND SHIFTING HARD PROGRESSING FROM BAD TO WORSE UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION STOP COMPLETELY. I CALLED NISSAN THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE. EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS OF PEOPLES WHO ARE HAVING VERY SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL CAR. THIS HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE FOR ME ( A PERSON ON DISABILITY) I NEED HELP! *TR
I PURCHASED A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA BRAND NEW IN JANUARY 2005. I HAD NEVER DRIVEN THE VEHICLE OTHER THAN LOCAL TO WORK. AT 66000 MILES MY TRANSMISSION BEGAN HARD SHIFTING. I CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE OFFICE TO AUTHORIZE AN OUT OF WARRANTY REPAIR AND THEY REFUSED. IT COST ME 3200.00 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. NOW I AM HAVING STRANGE NOISES COMING FROM THE FRONT END. I BELIEVE IT IS THE SUSPENSION. THIS CAR HAS NOT LIVED UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS AND I HOPE SOMEONE WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS MAKE AND MODEL CAR AND MAKE THE CONSUMERS BACK WHOLE. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT SIMPLY BECAUSE THE PRODUCTS ARE POORLY MANUFACTURED AND NISSAN DOES NOT STAND BEHIND ITS PRODUCT. *TR
VEHICLE HAS DIFFICULTY SHIFTING INTO GEAR. WHEN ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE HESITATES AND THEN JERKS INTO GEAR WITH ALOT OF FORCE. THIS PROBLEM CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE VEHICLE DOES NOT ACCELERATE AS EXPECTED AND MAY A LEAD TO REAR-END COLLISION. ADDITIONALLY IT CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN MERGING INTO FASTER MOVING TRAFFIC (I.E. MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY). THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A FAULTY VALVE BODY THAT ULTIMATELY LEADS TO THE DETERIORATION OF THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY NISSAN CUSTOMERS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD VIOLENTLY JERK WHEN CHANGING GEARS WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
I HAVE A 2005 MAXIMA WITH THE VERY SAME TRANS PROBLEMS IN THE LOWER GEARS. HARD SHIFTING, SLAMMING INTO GEAR, ETC. FORTUNATELY, IT IS STILL DRIVABLE FOR NOW. I DON'T HAVE THE $3500 TO FIX IT. THIS AFTER JUST SPENDING $1700 FOR A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER 3 MONTHS AGO. THE CAR IS A MONEY PIT. NEVER AGAIN!!! TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT I CAN STILL DRIVE IT UNTIL IT WONT GO ANYMORE. TRANSMISSION JERKS BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. TERRIBLE LAG BETWEEN SHIFTS AND NERVE RACKING JERKS WHEN COMING TO A STOP. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH SOME SERIOUS TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THE FIRST TIME I EVER FELT THE TRANS SHIFT ROUGHLY WAS AT ABOUT 35K MILES, I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT AT THE TIME BECAUSE IT WAS SO RANDOM AND THE CAR WAS NEW. THROUGHOUT THE NEXT 30K MILES OR SO IT WOULD HAPPEN SO RANDOMLY THAT IT WOULD NEVER CAUSE ANY SERIOUS CONCERN, IT WOULD BE DURING A DESCENT DOWN A HILL WHEN IT WOULD DOWNSHIFT OR AT RPMS HIGHER THAN 2500 AS IT DOWNSHIFTS. AT ABOUT 70K THE TRANS STARTED TO SHOW SOME SLIPPING, ONLY AFTER IT WOULD WARM UP AT ABOUT 20 TO 30 MILES OF DRIVING. THIS CAUSED FOR SOME CONCERN, MY WIFE HAS DRIVEN THIS CAR AND WE HAVE A TWO-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, SO I KNOW FOR CERTAIN THAT THE CAR WAS NOT ABUSED. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND SOON THERE AFTER THEY CALLED STATING THAT THE TRANS WILL NEED TO BE CHANGED OUT AND OF COURSE SINCE THE WARRANTY SO CONVENIENTLY JUST RAN OUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $3500. THIS IS MY FIRST NISSAN SO I DID A LOT OF RESEARCH ON LINE TRYING TO SEE IF THERE IS OTHERS OUT THERE WITH SIMILAR ISSUES, AND DID I FIND OUT THAT THERE IS... APPARENTLY THE 04 AND THE 05 MAXIMAS HAVE A MAJOR TRANS ISSUE THAT NISSAN IS FAILING TO ADMIT TO. I AM HAVING A HARD TIME TO GET THEM TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE AND ASSIST ME WITH THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH A NEW TRANS. I JUST THINK THAT NISSAN NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ASAP. MY CAR IS STILL DRIVABLE SO MY WIFE WILL DRIVE AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, HOPEFULLY SOMETHING WILL BE DONE BEFORE THE CAR COMPLETELY BRAKES DOWN. *TR
SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE. MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA'S TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. IT MAKES A "POPPING" NOISE. I HAVE HAD THE MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED. IT STILL NEEDS STRUT MOUNTS & POSSIBLY NEW STRUTS. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY "NEAR MISSES" IN TRAFFIC OR ANYTHING THOUGH. I AM UNEMPLOYED & CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT IN ORDER TO SELL IT. I'M SURE THE "CORPORATE" PEOPLE AT NISSAN DOESN'T HAVE ANY OF THESE DILEMMAS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. HE STATED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH, THE GEARS BEGAN SHIFTING WITHOUT WARRANT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 91,000.
MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA'S TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING IN THE SEPTEMBER OF 2009, I HAD MAINTENANCE DONE ON THE ENTIRE CAR DONE INCLUDING THE TRANSMISSION WHICH STOPPED THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY. BY JANUARY OF 2010 THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AND WORST. THE CAR WOULD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND IT TOOK ABOUT 5 SECONDS FOR THE CAR TO CHANGE SHIFT. IT WOULD ALSO JERK VERY VIOLENTLY WHEN CHANGING SHIFTS, SO HARD THAT I WAS ALMOST PUSHED OUT TO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, I FINALLY HAD IT ON APRIL 5TH 2010 WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE THE TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT ENTIRELY. I WAS GOING UP A HILL AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LET GO SO IT STARTED GOING BACKWARDS FAST, I PRESSED FORWARD ON THE GAS ONLY TO GET A HARD REV AND NOTHING ELSE. I KEPT GOING UNTIL I HIT THE BRAKES HARD INADVERTENTLY MAKING ME HIT A TREE DENTING MY BUMPER. MY CAR IS NOW SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY UNTIL I COME UP WITH THE MONEY TO PAY FOR A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION. I SPOKE TO NISSAN AND THEY SUGGESTED I TAKE MY CAR TO A CERTIFIED DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTICS RUN WHICH COST ME 100 DOLLARS. THEY OFFERED ME A NEW TRANSMISSION FOR 4500 BUT I HAGGLED DOWN TO 2500. I AM IN COLLEGE AND CANNOT AFFORD SPENDING THAT KIND OF MONEY. I AM STILL PAYING OFF THIS CAR AND IT IS CAUSING ME DISTRESS. IF I DON'T GET ANY HELP I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WILL DO. *TR

AFTER REVIEWING MANY WEBSITES THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE HAS 1000 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. TRIED TAKING TO 2 DIFFERENT NISSAN REPS AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD OR WOULD DO ABOUT THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT.. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT ELSE OR WHO ELSE I COULD SPEAK WITH ABOUT THIS MATTER. WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE SUDDENLY EXPLODED CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE MEDIAN AND ROLLOVER. THE CONTACT INJURED HER RIBS, BACK , AND FINGERS DURING THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE TIRE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. UPDATED 12/23/10*LJ THE PASSENGER WAS ALSO INJURED. UPDATED 04/04/11
MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED TO SHIFT EXTREMELY HARD. NOT ONLY THAT BUT IN TRAFFIC IT CAN BE VERY SCAREY ALMOST CAUSING YOU TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU OR BEING ALMOST HIT IN THE REAR BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION GETS STUCK AND THEN SHIFTS EXTREMELY HARD. THIS VEHICLE IS USED TO TRANSPORT MY KIDS. I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX NISSANS MISTAKES. TIMES ARE DIFFICULT FINANCIALLY RIGHT NOW. NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THERE MISTAKES. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SELL VEHICLES THAT ARE NOT RELIABLE. PLEASE HELP US WITH THIS SITUATION. IT NOT ONLY PUT MY CHILDREN IN DANGER BUT IT HAS TAKEN A FINANCIAL TOW ON MY FAMILY. I PURCHASED A NISSAN MAXIMA SL 2005 ON OCT 2004, AT THIS TIME THE CAR HAS 66,500 MILES AND WE ARE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS INCLUDES (ONCE THE CAR IS HOT): 1. IT TAKES FEW SECONDS FOR THR TRANSMISSION TO CLICK INTO GEAR FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE ACCOMPANIED BY A VERY HARD JERK. 2. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT DURING REGULAR DRIVING THEN JERKING BACK INTO GEAR AND THIS HARD JERKING IS AFFECTION THE TRANSMISSION MOUNTS. WE HAD A TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE AT 30,000 AND 60,000 MILES. WE READ PLENTY OF ONLINE POSTING OF 100'S OF CUSTOMER WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME NISSAN MAXIMA 2005 SO WE CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIR FOR HELP. THEY INSTRUCTED US TO GO TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTICS, AT THE DEALER THEY TOLD US THAT THEY WON'T DIAGNOSE THE TRANSMISSION UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION OIL IS CHANGE AND ONE OF THE TRANSMISSION MOUNTS IS REPLACE FOR ABOUT $700. MY WIFE USES THIS CAR WITH THE KIDS AND I'M CONCERN THAT THEY CAN HAVE A PROBLEM THAT CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR

THIS OCCURS DAILY AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN 5 MINUTES OR SO. ADDITIONALLY, AT TIMES (DAILY BUT NOT EVERYTIME I START THE CAR) WHEN I SHIFT INTO GEAR, WHETHER IT IS DRIVE OR REVERSE, THE TRANSMISSION TAKES AS MUCH AS 20 SECONDS TO ENGAGE. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED ONE MOTOR MOUNT AND THE TRANSMISSION MOUNT BUT STILL THE ENGINE JUMPS WHEN ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING. EVER SO CONVENIENTLY FOR NISSAN, ALL THIS STARTED AFTER MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. WITH AS MANY COMPLAINTS AS I SEE FOR THIS EXACT COMPLAINT, IT SEEMS THAT NISSAN WOULD CALL A RECALL BEFORE THERE IS A TRAGIC ACCIDENT. 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. TRANSMISSION JERKS WHEN SHIFTING IN LOW GEARS OR GOING FROM REVERSE TO FIRST GEAR. 2005 MAXIMA HAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT STARTED AT 75,000 MILES. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF ABOUT $3,500-$4,000. I HAVE FOUND OUT THROUGH SOME TRANSMISSION SHOPS THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE VALVE BODY AND NOT THE TRANSMISSION ITSELF. THE VALVE BODY COSTS ABOUT 1,100 FOR THE PART WHICH IS MUCH CHEAPER THAN A REBUILT TRANSMISSION SO I AM GOING TO GO THE ROUTE. THE MECHANIC HAS DONE ABOUT SIX OF THESE SO FAR AND IT HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM IN ALL OF THEM WITH NONE BEING RETURNED WITH PROBLEMS. NISSAN'S QUALITY HAS REALLY WENT DOWN THE DRAIN. IMPROPER BRAKING FUNCTION WITH ABS IN 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA - STARTED WITH NOISE AND "SOFT" BRAKES. IT CONTINUED TO A POINT WHERE THE ABS WAS INCORRECTLY BEING ACTIVATED (EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS OFF). IT SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO A SPEED SENSOR IN THE WHEELS. THIS CONTROLS THE ABS ACTIVATION AND THE SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER. THE SPEEDOMETER HAS STOPPED WORKING. AND DUE TO THE ABS BEING UNDER CONSTANT STRAIN, THE ABS CONTROL MODULE IS GOING TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF BUYING A NEWER CAR IF SUCH A PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR SO SOON. I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY PERSON SUFFERING BUT I WASN'T. SO I WENT ON HAD IT LOOKED AT THE 2ND TIME AND THEY TOLD ME THE CAR WAS SLIPPING ON THE 2ND GEAR AND FALLING OUT OF 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. IT WAS SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT HARD PARTS WEREN'T EVEN COVERED UNDER THE ESTIMATE OF A COUPLE THOUSAND DOLLARS. SO, I NEEDED A SECOND OPINION AND I WENT TO ANOTHER SPECIALIST AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE SAME EXACT REASON AND THE RINGS IN THE TRANSMISSION COULD HAVE GONE BAD. SO WHERE WAS SUPPOSED TO START........I FEEL VERY MUCH SO THAT THIS A MANUFACTURES ERROR AND IT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED ON THAT END. I'VE HEARD ALOT OF GOOD THINGS ABOUT NISSAN BUT, THERE'S A LOT OF DOUBT ABOUT THE PRODUCTS THEY SELL TO CONSUMERS THAT COULD ENDANGER SOMEONE OR SOMETHING. *TR
MY CAR JERKED AND JUMPED AS ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS. I HAVE NOT TRUSTED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT THE CAR AND IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY SO I TOOK TO AN OUTSIDE TRANSMISSION SHOP. I PAID $3000 TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. THE TECHNICIAN AS WELL AS MYSELF DID A LOT OF RESEARCH BECAUSE THEY WERE HAVING DIFFICULTY REPAIRING. WE FOUND COMPLIANT AFTER COMPLAINT. I WILL BE SEARCHING AND BE ADDED TO EVERY CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT I CAN FIND. MY TECHNICIAN IS WILL TO FILL IN THE GAPS. IT HAS TAKEN 6 MONTHS AND MY CAR STILL IS NOT OPERATING PERFECTLY.
