I TOOK MY CAR TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT NEEDED TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION FLUSH WHICH I DID AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS WHEN SPEEDING UP FROM 1ST TO 2ND, 2ND TO 3RD WHICH MAKES THE RPM'S GO VERY HIGH. AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN IT SUDDENLY JERKS HARD WHEN DOWNSHIFTING. I TAKES A FEW SECONDS AFTER PUTTING IT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE AND THEN IT JERKS HARD. ALSO WHEN STOPPING FROM A MODERATE SPEED, THE CAR SOMETIMES DOES NOT SHIFT DOWN TO FIRST GEAR AND THE ONLY WAY TO GO IS TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL OR SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND TURNING IT BACK ON. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN WHICH AFTER YOU ARE STOPPED AND YOU ARE UNAWARE THAT THE CAR DID NOT DOWNSHIFT BACK TO 1ST AND THEN YOU TRY TO TAKE OFF AND THE CAR TAKES OFF VERY SLOWLY. THIS IS WHEN IT CAN BECAME A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE WHAT IF THERE IS A CAR COMING AND YOU CANNOT SPEED UP. THE ONCOMING CAR CAN EASILY RAM YOUR CAR.
I BOUGHT A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SL IN JANUARY 2010, SO ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO. IT DROVE BEAUTIFULLY, IT WAS SMOOTH AND EVERYTHING. I CHANGED THE OIL, GOT A TRANSMISSION FLUSH, NEW TIRES, EVERYTHING. A FEW DAYS AFTER I GOT IT, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND PREPARING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, AND AS I WAS DOING THAT IT STALLED, THEN JERKED AND HYDROPLANED AT THE INTERSECTION AND INTO THE INCOMING LANE OF TRAFFIC INTO ANOTHER CAR. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE SHOP TO REPAIR IT WHICH TOOK A FEW MONTHS. THEN, ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR STARTED TO GET WORSE AND WOULD STALL AND THEN JERK WHEN I WOULD REVERSE THE CAR FROM PARK. SPECIFICALLY WHEN REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. AS THE WEEKS WENT BY, IT GOT EVEN WORSE. THE CAR WOULD VIOLENTLY JERK WHILE SWITCHING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR OR WHEN BRAKING SUDDENLY OR WHEN ACCELERATING SUDDENLY. SOMETIMES WHILE ACCELERATING, THE CAR WILL STALL, THE ENGINE REVS UP, AND THEN THE CAR WOULD VIOLENTLY JERK FORWARD AS IF IT WAS HIT FROM BEHIND. IN ONE INSTANCE I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TO MAKE SURE THAT I WASN'T HIT BY A CAR, WITH THE LATTER NOT BEING THE CASE AT ALL. IT HAPPENS EVERYTIME I DRIVE IT NOW. I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AND HE THOUGHT THAT IT NEEDED A NEW SENSOR, SO HE INSTALLED IT, AND TOLD ME THAT IT DIDN'T STOP THE JERKING. THEN I GOT ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND IT HASN'T HELPED THE SITUATION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, AFTER 10 MINUTES THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AND SLIPPED INTO SECOND GEAR WITH EXTREME FORCE. THE GEARS WOULD SLIP FROM FIRST TO THE SECOND GEAR AND THEN TO THIRD GEAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76005.
2005 MAXIMA JERKING BETWEEN GEARS. OCCURS CONSTANTLY. TAKEN TO 2 REPAIR SHOPS AND HAD TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED WITHOUT RESOLVE. TOLD NEED NEW TRANSMISSION BY BOTH SHOPS. *TR
2005 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED HAVING A DELAY IN GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE AND ALSO JERKING INTO GEARS. EMAILED NISSAN AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE TO NISSAN TO HAVE CHECKED. CALLED NISSAN SERVICE DEPT AND WAS ADVISED THAT IT'S NOT WORTH BRINGING IN AND PAYING TO HAVE CHECKED WHEN YOU ALREADY KNOW THERE IS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. WAS ADVISED IT'S AROUND $4700 TO REPLACE.
2005 NISSAN MAXIMA JERKS/SURGES FROM DIFFERENT AUTOMATIC GEARS CAUSING VEHICLE TO ESCALATE IN POWER. UPDATED 04/21/10
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH UNDER 90,000 MILES. I AM EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE CAR JERKS WHEN I SLOW DOWN AND DOES THE SAME THING GOING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. I STARTED HAVING THIS PROBLEM ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND I TOOK THE CAR TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHICH I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A TRANSMISSION/ENGINE MOUNTS WHICH WERE REPLACED, AFTER A WEEK THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME, BUT I READ THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND NISSAN IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THERE HAS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH SHOULD BE A RECALL. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN SUGGEST CAN DO PLEASE HELP. MY WARRANTY IS OVER AND I KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND ONCE PLACE IN GEAR IT JERKED VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME STUCK IN FIFTH GEAR AND IN ORDER TO RELEASE IT, SHE HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RIGHT WHEEL BEARING OR HUB WAS DEFECTIVE AND RECOMMENDED HAVING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT AND TRANSMISSION WERE DEFECTIVE AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

IN ADDITION, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED WHEN DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS AND THE RPMS WOULD BEGAN TO INCREASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE DIFFERENT TIMES FOR THE SIMILAR FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED AND THE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR AFTER THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING UPON A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

I HAVE A TRANSMISSION ISSUE WITH MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN APRIL 2009 WITH A LITTLE OVER 36K MILES. AS OF DECEMBER 28, 2009 MY CAR HAS 56K MILES. CAR HAS REALLY BAD JERKING MOTION UP SHIFTING AND DOWN SHIFTING BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS EVERY DAY. THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. BROUGHT MAXIMA TO NISSAN DEALER SHIP WHO SUGGESTS TO FLUSH TRANSMISSION AND CHANGE MOTOR MOUNTS WHICH SEEM TO BE A WASTE OF MONEY AND NOT CORRECTING THE REAL PROBLEM. *TR
2005 NISSAN MAXIMA THE TRANSMISSION HAS HARD JERKY SHIFTS BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD (SLAMMING INTO GEAR). ALSO THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR OCCASIONALLY DURING REGULAR DRIVING ALLOWING THE ENGINE TO REV FREELY THEN JERKING BACK INTO GEAR. THIS CAN CAUSE SUDDEN ACCELERATION OR TORQUE STEER. I'M VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS CAR WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR NOW HAS A BURNT OIL TYPE SMELL. (I KNOW THIS IS NOT GOOD). I JUST HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED AND NEW FLUID PUT IN FOUR MONTHS AGO. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE RPMS SUDDENLY INCREASED RAPIDLY WHEN THE CONTACT SHIFTED GEARS. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF; THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO RESET ITSELF WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO REFERRED HIM TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.

I PURCHASED MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SL BRAND NEW FROM KRAFT NISSAN IN JULY 2005. FOUR YEARS LATER, I HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE SERVICE THAT NISSAN PROVIDES TO CUSTOMERS. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH NISSAN'S SERVICE SINCE DAY ONE. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN IN THE PAST ABOUT ISSUES CONCERNING MY MAXIMA. YESTERDAY (DECEMBER 2, 2009) AFTER WORK, I GOT INTO MY CAR TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS WET ON THE INSIDE FROM THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL TO THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. MOST OF THE ROOF LINE WAS COMPLETELY SATURATED WITH WATER AND DRIPPING FROM THE SUNGLASS STORAGE PANEL AND EACH DOOR. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY WORK DONE OR ACCIDENTS. I FEEL THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE SEALS OR DRAINS IN THIS CAR. THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I PAID FOR A LUXURY NISSAN NOT A PIECE OF JUNK AND CONTINUALLY MAKE MY PAYMENTS TIMELY. KRAFT NISSAN INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WOULD HAVE TO KEEP MY CAR ALL DAY AND CHARGE ME $90 JUST TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM. MY PROBLEM IS THAT MY CAR IS ALMOST ALWAYS PARK IN A GARAGE, WHETHER AT WORK OR AT HOME. IN FLORIDA IT RAINS A LOT AND I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH A CAR THAT IS ONLY 4.5 YEARS OLD. THE 04-06 NISSAN MAXIMA'S HAVE ALL HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE PROBLEM TENDS TO RE-APPEAR. NOW I'M OUT $2,000 AND MAY HAVE TO FIX AGAIN IN 50K MILES. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH HE COULD FEEL THE VEHICLE LUNGE FORWARD WHENEVER HE WAS DOWN SHIFTING AND GOING OVER 40 MPH. WHEN HE SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN THE RPMS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. HE THEN TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE PERFORMANCE ISSUE/FAILURE. PURCHASE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. TRANSMISSION STARTED STICKING GOING INTO 2 ND GEAR. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES. PROBLEM ESCALATED- . TRANSMISSION BANGS WHEN DOWNSHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 1ST GEAR. TRANSMISSION SURGES WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER SLOWING DOWN. TRANSMISSION HESITATES AT LEAST 15 SECONDS BEFORE ENGAGING INTO GEAR WHEN IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. PROBLEM OCCURS REGULARLY WHEN CAR IS WARMED UP WHEN TAKING OFF INTO TRAFFIC THE GEARS STICK WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO HESITATE ALMOST STALL. THIS IS NOW A CONSISTENT PROBLEM. I AM AFRAID THAT SOMEONE WILL RUN INTO ME AND INJURE IF NOT KILL MY CHILD WHO RIDES IN THE BACK SEAT AND/OR ANOTHER DRIVER COULD BE INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY CLAIMED NOT TO BE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE TRIED TO WORK WITH THEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. I FILED A CLAIM WITH THEM AND THEY DENIED IT WITH NO WRITTEN EXPLANATION. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD THE CAR SERVICED ON TIME AT THE DEALER. I AM NOW TOLD THAT I COULD REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FOR $4000. THIS IS AN OUT RAGE THAT NISSAN IS ALLOWED TO BE SO IRRESPONSIBLE BY NOT BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR FAULTY AND DANGEROUS VEHICLE. THEY ARE GETTING AWAY WITH PUTTING DRIVERS LIVES AT RISK. *TR
MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF WHAT MAY BE SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. AS TO THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION TO CORRECT THESE INTERMITTENT AND RANDOM SYMPTOMS THAT INCLUDE: 1. TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS TO CLICK INTO GEAR AFTER THE SHIFT LEVER IS PUT IN "D" 2. VERY HARD JERKY SHIFTS BETWEEN 1ST TO 2ND AND 2ND TO 1ST AND ACCOMPANIED BY LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. 3. TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR DURING REGULAR DRIVING ALLOWING THE ENGINE TO REV FREELY THEN JERKING BACK INTO GEAR WITH A LOUD CLUNK. THE IS FOLLOWED BY A BURNT OIL / ELECTRICAL TYPE SMELL THAT GETS INSIDE THE CAR AND EVIDENT OUTSIDE AFTER STOPPING. SOMETIMES I GO FOR DAYS WITH NO SYMPTOMS AT ALL AND OTHER TIMES IT MAY HAPPEN A DOZEN TIMES IN A DAY. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND NONE OF THE PROBLEMS SHOWED UP FOR THEM BUT THEY NOTED THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN BUT THAT WOULD NOT CAUSE THESE SYMPTOMS. THEY SUGGESTED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND MOTOR MOUNTS FOR $4,000. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SE(AT TRANSMISSION) THAT I BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 05 I HAVE ABOUT 55K MILES ON IT AND IT IS STARTING TO SHOW SOME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. WHEN IT IS SHIFTING 1ST TO 2ND GEAR IT HAS A VERY BAD JERK IN TO GEAR AND THE SAME WHEN I SLOW DOWN AND IT DOWN SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 1ST GEAR. AND ALSO WHEN IT IS SHIFTING FORM 3RD TO 4TH OR 4TH TO 5TH SOME TIMES IT DELAYS AND MY CAR GOES INTO NEUTRAL FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS THEN IT SHIFTS REALLY HARD INTO GEAR WITH THAT SAME JERK I HAVE SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND. ALSO MY CAR SOMETIMES GET STUCK IN 5TH GEAR WHEN IM ON THE FREE WAY, I KNOW THIS BECAUSE AFTER I SLOW DOWN ACCORDING TO TRAFFIC AND THEN ACCELERATE TO GO WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC I HAVE NO ACCELERATING POWER(THIS PROBLEM DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT IT DOES HAPPEN AND HOW I GET MY CAR BACK TO FIRST GEAR IS I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART MY CAR). I TRIED TAKING MY CAR THE A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT THEY FIRST SUGGEST GETTING A TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE AND FLUSH. THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AT ALL. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER I GOT MY TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE DONE. AND NOW THEY ARE SUGGESTING ME TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION FOR 3000 TO 4000. AND I PERSONALLY CAN NOT AFFORD THAT. NISSAN 2005 MAXIMA HAD A DEFECT IN THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE DEVICE WHERE WATER FROM THE ROAD ACCUMULATED AND CAUSED CORROSION. NISSAN ADVISED THE DEALER TO DRILL A HOLE TO ALLOW WATER TO EXIT. IT WOULD BUCK AND JERK SO HARD THAT I DID NOT FEEL LIKE I WAS IN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. RECENTLY THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK IT TO BE LOOKED AT. AFTER REPLACING THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT ($700) AND DRIVING IT OFF THE LOT, 20 MINUTES LATER THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND THE CAR WAS STILL BUCKING AND JERKING. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER ONLY FOR THEM TO TELL ME 2 MOTOR MOUNTS NEED TO BE REPLACED AS DOES THE TRANSMISSION FOR A TOTAL OF ALMOST $5,000. NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE ON THE CAR BECAUSE I'VE REPORTED THIS TO THE CORPORATE OFFICES OF NISSAN AND THEY HAVE BEGUN AN INVESTIGATION. THERE HAVE BEEN NO CRASHES OR INJURIES DUE TO THIS PROBLEM...YET. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN THE VEHICLE RPM READING. THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD AND DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIANS FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACED THE MOTOR MOUNTS. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
