2005 NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING HARD AND SLIPPING. IT SHIFTS HARD BETWEEN 1ST & 2ND GEAR AND BETWEEN 2ND & 3RD. IT SLIPS OUT OF GEAR BETWEEN 2ND & 3RD AND THEN SLAMS INTO GEAR. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A NISSAN SERVICE CONSULTANT THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. SO, I WENT FOR A SECOND OPINION. THE INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST TOLD ME THIS WAS COMMON IN THE '04 & '05 AND MOST LIKELY THE VALVE BODY. HE STATED HE WAS SURPRISED IT LASTED THIS LONG. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. OF THOSE WHO CHOSE TO GO TO AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP ALL HAVE REPLACED THE VALVE BODY AND HAD NO FURTHER ISSUES. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO A NISSAN SERVICE CENTER. *TR
MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED HAVING SHIFTING PROBLEMS WHEN SLOWING. I WOULD BE COMING TO A STOP SIGN AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T JUMP OUT OF GEAR AND THE CAR WOULD FREE ROLL. ONCE STOPPED THE CAR WOULD JERK AND TRY TO TAKE OFF WHILE FOOT ON BRAKE. NOW THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS VERY HARD TO THE POINT TO FEELS LIKE IM IN AN ACCIDENT OR THE ENGINE IS COMING THROUGH THE HOOD. WHEN I ACCELERATE ONTO FREEWAY FROM RAMP IM SCARED THAT I MAY GET REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE CAR JUST WONT ACCELERATE PROPERLY TO GET INTO LANE SAFE. THIS OCCURS EVERYDAY PARTICULARLY WHEN CAR WARMS UP AND I THEN BEGIN TO SMELL ELECTRIC BURN OR OIL BURN. *TR
I HAVE A 05 MAXIMA AND FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS I HAVE HAD A JERKING WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR. IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I ROLE OF FROM 5 TO 30 MPH THE CAR JERKS AND IT RPMS TO 5K THEN DROPS. ALSO WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN THE CAR JERKS MORE. THEY CHANGED MY MOTOR MOUNTS AND SAID THAT IT. THE NEXT DAY IT STARTED AGAIN. THREE WEEKS LATER I CONFRONTED THEM AGAIN AND THE STATED TO ME THAT THERE IS ONLY A RECALL ON THE CVT TRANSMISSION THAT IS IN THE MURANO THAT HAS A RECALL. I HAVE SPOKEN TO QUITE A FEW PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE GOTTEN THE SAME ANSWER. ITS NOT FAIR THAT PEOPLE SPEND THERE HARD EARNED MONEY ON AN 30,000 CAR AND HAVE TO GO THREW THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
AT LOW SPEEDS, THE CAR JERKS INTO GEAR AS IF IT HAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO DO IT MORE OFTEN WHEN THE CAR HAS WARMED UP. SOME DAYS IT DOES NOT DO IT AT ALL, BUT SOME DAYS IT DOES IT EVERY TIME WHEN SWITCHING BETWEEN 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD GEARS. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN REPAIR SHOP HERE IN TOWN ON OCTOBER 14TH, 2009, BUT THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAD NOTICED THE PROBLEM ABOUT A MONTH OR SO BEFORE TAKING IT IN TO BE CHECKED. I LOOKED THE ISSUE UP ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND WHERE NUMEROUS NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. MANY OF THEM HAD VARIOUS EXPENSIVE REPAIRS DONE (TRANSMISSION FLUSHED OR REPLACED) TO NO AVAIL. *TR
BOUGHT A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA, THE CAR QUIT WORKING IN AUGUST 2009, I'VE TAKEN IT TO 6 MECHANICS AND IT'S STILL DOING THE SAME THING. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIPS DON'T SEEM TO HAVE A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM JUST KEPT CHARGING ME MORE AND MORE. THE CAR JERKS IN 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD GEAR, I'VE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED, MOTOR MOUNTS, CATALYTIC CONVERTOR REPLACED AND THE CAR IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA IN 2008, IN AUGUST 2009 MY VEHICLE QUIT ON THE HIGHWAY, SINCE THAT TIME I'VE TAKEN IT TO 3 MECHANICS INCLUDING 2 NISSAN DEALERSHIPS, THEY FINALLY GOT MY CAR RUNNING HOWEVER IT JERKS VIOLENTLY WHILE SHIFTING FROM 1-3RD GEARS. RECENTLY I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE REVVED THEN JERKED ALMOST CAUSING ME TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. I CANNOT BELIEVE ALL THE SAME COMPLAINTS AND NO RECALL. MY 2005 MAXIMA WAS VIOLENTLY JERKING, STALLING AND HARD SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEARS AND VICE VERSA. I KEPT TELLING NISSAN THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR BUT THEY WOULD TAKE MAY STATEMENT SAY THEY WOULD GET BACK WHEN ME AND WHEN THEY DID THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT ASSIST ME IN ANY WAY. I TOOK MY CAR TO SEVERAL MECHANICS SPENDING 1000.00 OF DOLLARS AND NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. I TOOK MY CAR TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP, AFTER THE GOT THE CAR RUNNING BECAUSE IT HAD STOPPED ON ME ON THE HIGHWAY COMING HOME FROM WORK, THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT JERKS IN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR, I ASKED IF THAT COULD BE FIXED THEY SAID THEY'D TRY, AFTER ANOTHER 2000.00 MORE I BROUGHT IT HOME AND AGAIN THE SAME PROBLEM, I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO NISSAN AND THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATED LIST OF REPAIRS THAT NEEDED TO BE MADE FOR APPROXIMATELY $6,000 WHICH INCLUDED $4185 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. HOW IS IT THAT WITHIN A MATTER OF WEEKS AND ONLY 600 MILES THAT IT GOES FROM SENSORS SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM TO YOU NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION, NEW STARTER, I THEN CONTACTED 1-800-NISSAN1 WHICH WAS A WASTE OF TIME THEY SUPPOSEDLY REVIEWED MY COMPLAINT AND TOLD ME THAT UNFORTUNATELY THEY WON'T BE PAYING FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK CAR AND I CANNOT BELIEVE A RECALL HASN'T BEEN MADE ON THIS CAR! *TR
THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS CAR DOES NOT WANT TO GO INTO GEAR BETWEEN 1ST TO 2ND AND 2ND TO 3RD. THEN IF IT DOES IT JERKS REALLY HARD AND SOUNDS LIKE ITS GOING TO FALL OUT. THEN THERE'S TIMES IT SLIPS. WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE YOU HAVE TO HOLD YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE REALLY HARD OR THE CAR WILL JUMP BACKWARDS. AS SOON AS THE CAR WARMS UP IT DOES THIS. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR OUT OF TOWN IN FEAR THE TRANSMISSION WILL COMPLETELY STOP. THERE ARE PLENTY OF WEBSITES WITH PEOPLE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE. ITS NOT AN ISOLATED THING. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL REASONS. THE CAR IS ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD. I BOUGHT IT USED AND HAVEN'T EVEN HAD IT A YEAR YET. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO KNOWN ISSUE OF THIS PROBLEM. I READ THAT OTHER PEOPLE WERE TOLD THE SAME THING WHEN THEY CALLED. THERE'S NO WAY A TRANSMISSION SHOULD HAVE PROBLEMS AFTER ONLY FOUR YEARS. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA AND I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THERE IS A SEVERE JERKING FROM THE TRANSMISSION WHEN GOING INTO TO GEAR OR WHEN SHIFTING GEARS WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL. CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH THE VEHICLE WILL SLOW DOWN WITH BRAKING AND BECOMES VERY STIFF. THEN THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. CONTACT FEELS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE AS THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN ANOTHER VEHICLE CAN CRASH INTO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE OR THE CONTACTS VEHICLE CAN CRASH INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE IT ACCELERATES WITHOUT WARNING. THIS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION OF THE 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. MY MAXIMA ONLY HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT, HOWEVER IT HAS BEGAN TO JERK WHILE CHANGING GEARS, AND TO SLIP OUT OF GEAR WHILE IT IS ON THE ROAD. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, PARTICULARLY THE SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR. I HAVE NOT YET GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT OR HAD MY CAR STOP ON THE ROAD. HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. APPARENTLY THIS IS A VERY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE WITH THE 2004 AND 2005 NISSAN MAXIMAS. THE PROBLEM FIRST BEGAN TO HAPPEN ABOUT EVERY 3 DAYS, BUT NOW IT HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY OTHER DAY. ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CAR IS GOING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHECKED, AND WAS TOLD THAT MY FLUID LEVEL WAS PERFECTLY FINE. THE SHOP RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE MY CAR TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST, WHICH I HAVE NOT YET DONE. THEY ALSO MENTIONED TO ME THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THE 2004 AND 2005 MAXIMAS ARE KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE, AND USUALLY GO BAD AT ABOUT 60,000 OR 70,000 MILES. I BELIEVE THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THE 2004 AND 2005 NISSAN MAXIMAS ARE DEFECTIVE AND NEED TO BE RECALLED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. SMOKE APPEARED FROM UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY BURNED. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER ADVISED HER TO CALL THE INSURANCE COMPANY. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WOULD BE A $1,000 DEDUCTIBLE, BUT SHE DOES NOT WANT TO PAY. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE NISSAN MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
MY TRANSMISSION SKIPS AND RUNS ROUGH FROM 1ST AND 2ND GEAR... THE NISSAN MAXIMA IS 2005 AND HAS 127,000 MILES. THIS STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS AT 119,000 NOW IT'S GETTING WORSE. *TR
2005 NISSAN MAXIMA, ON JUNE 27TH GAUGES ALL WENT TO NEGATIVE, FUEL GAUGE SHOWED EMPTY, TEMP SHOWED COLD, TACH AND SPEEDO DID NOT WORK, A/C DID NOT WORK, TURN SIGNALS INSIDE DID NOT WORK BUT OUTSIDE DID. PARTIAL SUNROOF OPERATION. KEPT CAR IN GARAGE, GOT IN CAR ON JUNE 29TH TO TAKE TO DEALER, NOTICED UNUSUAL SMELL, 10 MIN. LATER SMOKE CAME POURING OUT OF CENTER DASH. IMMEDIATELY GOT OUT OF CAR AND DISCONNECTED BATTERY. HAD TOWED TO DEALER, SAID THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE GAUGE CLUSTER AND A/C METERING AMP, LOOKS LIKE IT SHORT CIRCUITED BY COIN THAT SOMEHOW MADE ITS WAY INTO A VENT CREAVIS OF THE SEALED CIRCUIT BOARD. WE HAVE HAD 170,000 MILES OF BASICALLY TROUBLE FREE DRIVING BUT I AM REALLY CONCERNED BECAUSE THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS SOLVES OUR PROBLEM. AS YOU CAN SEE MY WIFE DRIVES ALOT OF MILES IN THIS CAR WITH 8 HOUR TRIPS TO FLORIDA EVERY 6 WEEKS. NOT SURE HOW SHE WOULD REACT TO A SMOKE FILLED CABIN AND WOULD BE CONCERNED IF SHE COULD GET OUT IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND FLAMES UP. THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD NEVER REALLY CATCH FIRE. HAD ISSUE A FEW WEEKS EARLIER WHERE THE CAR SHIFTED STRANGELY, IT WOULD OFTEN NOT START AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START UNLESS THE A/C WAS TURNED OFF. THE SUGGESTED A TRANSMISSION FIX, NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND A NEW BATTERY. WE COULD ONLY DO THE BATTERY AT THAT POINT. I CAN'T HELP TO WONDER IF THE COMPUTER GAVE FALSE READING BECAUSE OF THE RECENT PROBLEM. *TR
ON JUNE 23, 2009 MY 2005 MAXIMA WAS PARKED IN AN ENCLOSED GARAGE WITHIN MY HOME. ON THAT SAME DATE I ATTEMPTED TO ENTER MY VEHICLE AND WAS GREETED WITH AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF SMOKE UPON OPENING THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. NO FIRE WAS OCCURRING, SO I OPENED ALL CAR DOORS AND GARAGE DOORS TO CLEAR THE SMOKE. WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARED I DISCOVERED MY CAR HAD, AT SOME POINT IN THE PRIOR 8 HOURS, HAD AN INTERIOR FIRE AND HAD LUCKILY SELF-EXTINGUISHED. THE FIRE SEEMED TO ORIGINATE NEAR THE FUSE BOX, LOCATED TO THE LEFT OF THE STEERING COLUMN, ON THE UNDER SIDE OF THE DASH. THE FIRE MELTED THE FUSE BOX AND SURROUNDING DASH AREA, SPREADING AROUND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN TO JUST ABOVE THE IGNITION ON THE DASH. NO POLICE OR FIRE EMERGENCY SERVICES WERE CALLED AS THE FIRE WAS OUT. MY INSURANCE WAS IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED AND A TOW ORDERED TO TAKE THE MAXIMA TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO ADVISE THEM OF THIS FIRE. AFTER A FEW WEEKS THEY COMMUNICATED THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT INVESTIGATE THE FIRE. MY INSURANCE COVERED THE COST OF THE REPAIRS AND THE REPAIRS TOOK PLACE. UPON COMPLETION OF THE REPAIRS THE DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED WHEN THEY TESTED THE LUMBAR SWITCH, THAT IT WAS OVERHEATING THE FUSE PANEL AND THAT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. MY INSURANCE WAS CONTACTED TO COME OUT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ASSESS THE NEW DISCOVERY. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER, SERVICE MANAGER, AND SERVICE TECHNICIAN MET AND AGREED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS A PINCHED LUMBAR SWITCH AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I PAID THE COST OF THE SWITCH AS INSURANCE ONLY COVERS DAMAGES. THE LUMBAR SWITCH WAS RECALLED IN 2006. MY LUMBAR SWITCH WAS REPAIRED IN APRIL OF 2006. THE RECALL STATES THE LUMBAR SWITCH WIRING COULD BECOME PINCHED AND CAUSE A FIRE. I ASKED BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO REFUND AND INVESTIGATE MY FIRE AND IT'S ASSOCIATION TO THE RECALL. AT THIS TIME NEITHER IS COOPERATIVE AND REFUSES TO ASSIST OR INVESTIGATE. *TR
MY 2005 MAXIMA HAD BEEN PARKED IN MY GARAGE WHEN AN ELECTRICAL FIRE OCCURRED NEAR OR IN THE FUSE PANEL. WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE FIRE OCCURRED. THE FIRE HAD SOMEHOW CONTAINED ITSELF AND SELF-EXTINGUISHED. THE CAR WAS SEALED SO WE ASSUME IT RAN OUT OF OXYGEN AS THE SMOKE DID NOT LEAK TO THE GARAGE. THE LOWER DASH PANEL ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN APPEARS TO BE THE INITIAL FIRE. AS I AM NOT AN EXPERT, I CAN ONLY ASSUME THE HOUSING FOR THE FUSE PANEL WOULD RELATE TO THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE AS THIS IS WHERE MOST OF THE DAMAGE OCCURRED. THE FIRE MELTED THAT PANEL TO THE FLOORBOARD AND SPREAD AROUND THE STEERING COLUMN, AROUND THE IGNITION AND SLIGHTLY UP TO THE UPPER DASHBOARD (RIGHT SIDE), AGAIN CAUSING THE DASH TO MELT. PRIOR TO THE FIRE THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER SEAT WOULD NOT ENGAGE ANY MOVEMENT. I HAD NOT ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT AS I RARELY, IF EVER, MOVE MY SEAT. THIS HAD OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 4-6 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. ANOTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUE THE CAR HAD PRIOR WAS THE SEAT BELT LIGHT INDICATOR WOULD REMAIN ON WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WAS INDEED BUCKLED. I DO NOT KNOW IF THESE ELECTRICAL ISSUES RELATE TO THE ELECTRICAL FIRE. I DID HOWEVER FIND ANOTHER REPORT ON NHTSA INVOLVING THE SAME TYPE OF POWER SEAT ISSUES AND SIMILAR ELECTRICAL FIRE TO THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR OF MY MAXIMA. AT THIS TIME THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IS NOT SURE HOW THE FIRE STARTED AND IS NOT CLAIMING NISSAN LIABILITY. I AM CONCERNED THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF FIRE AND REPLACE THE DAMAGED COMPONENTS OF MY CAR WITH THE SAME POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL FIRE HAZARDS. I FEEL THIS FIRE SHOULD BE CAUSE FOR INVESTIGATION AS MY MAXIMA APPEARS TO BE AT LEAST THE SECOND NISSAN WITH THE SAME EXACT ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND FIRE. *TR
NISSAN MAXIMA, AUTOMATIC, SE, 6 CYL. 3.5L MILEAGE 75,000. PROBLEM: NISSAN DEALER. CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD RATTLE AND CRACK IN THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. TO REPLACE CONVERTER NISSAN DEALER WANTED $1200.00 TO REPLACE. NISSAN WOULDN'T CONSIDER THE PROBLEM A DEFECT/ UNDER WARRANTY. MY SON'S CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 60-65 MPH THE VEHICLES ROAD PERFORMANCE WAS VERY POOR DUE THE EXTREMELY LOW TIRE PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE STATION TO INFLATE THE LOW PRESSURED TIRES. IDENTICAL FAILURES OCCURRED ON SEVERAL SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURES WAS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE CHROME WITHIN THE INNER WHEELS. THE DEFECT CAUSED LOW TIRE PRESSURE, IN WHICH ALL FOUR TIRES HAD DEEP CRACKS. THE FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,00. THE VIN NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
CLUTCH PEDAL ON A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA GOES TO THE FLOOR. IT WILL RETURN BY "POPPING" THE PEDAL; BOUNCING IT OFF OF MY FOOT. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. *TR
AFTER THE CAR RUNS FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS OR COMES OUT OF GEAR AT 5-45 MPH. WHEN YOU PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC AND ARE TRYING TO GET UP TO SPEED ITS LIKE IT GOES FROM IN GEAR TO NEUTRAL WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE GAS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SHIFTING GEARS, THERE WOULD BE A FIVE SECOND DELAY BEFORE THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY SHIFTED INTO THE SELECTED GEAR. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD VIOLENTLY JERK WHILE DRIVING 25 TO 30 MPH. THERE WOULD ALSO BE AN INCREASE IN THE ENGINE RPMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT IS HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH 97,000 MILES A YEAR AGO. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HARD SHIFTS- SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AS WELL AS A HARD BANGING SOUND WHEN IT FINDS THE RIGHT GEAR. I HAVE CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION AND SEVERAL OTHER PARTS, ONLY TO ENCOUNTER THE SAME PROBLEMS. THERE SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN THESE CARS. I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA: IN JANUARY ,2009 MY SON WAS DRIVING BACK FROM LUBBOCK TEXAS TO PORTALES NM. THIS IS 110 MILES. MY TIRE A GOODYEAR RS-A 245/45 R18 TIRE WENT FLAT MY SON GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CHANGED IT IN PITCH DARK. NOT TAKING THE TIME TO LOOK AT THE TIRE IN DEPTH. HE DROVE HOME TO FIND IN THE LATER PART OF HIS TRIP HE DID NOT HAVE ANY BREAKS. HE WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE'S BEADING CAME COMPLETELY OUT. IT LOOKED LIKE IT HAD 45 WIRES HANGING OUT OF THE TIRE. THESE WIRES WERE IN AND OUT OF THE TIRE AND I COULD LITERALLY PICK IT UP BY THE WIRES. THE WIRES (BEADING) WRAPPED AROUND MY BREAK LINES AND CUT THEM COMPLETELY IN HALF, IN ADDITION PULLING THE STEAL MOUNT FOR THE BREAK LINE ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE CARS MOUNT. THIS COULD HAVE KILLED MY SON, PASSENGERS, AS WELL AS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS SAME SITUATION HAPPENED TO ME THREE WEEKS PRIOR. THIS TIME THE TIRE CAME APART FROM THE INSIDE WHERE YOU CAN'T SEE IT, BUT THE BEADING DID NOT COME OUT. WHEN MY SON'S SITUATION HAPPENED, IT TOOK (MY TIRE, $266.00), (WHEEL $800.00) (BREAK LINES $???.00) DAMAGE TO THE INTERNAL MOUNT AND VESSEL $ ???.00 OF MY CAR'.ALL OUT! THIS TIRE IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY TAKEN OFF THE MARKET. THERE ARE SO MANY INCIDENCES WITH THIS PARTICULAR TIRE AND IT IS EXTREMELY DEADLY! FAILURE OF TIMING CHAIN & TENSIONERS. UPON HEARING WHINING NOISE TOOK 2005 MAXIMA TO DEALER WHO VERIFIED NOISE WAS DUE TO AN IMPENDING FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAINS AND TENSIONERS. RESEARCHED PROBLEM & DISCOVER THAT THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT INVOLVED ENGINES MADE FROM 2004 TO 2007 AFFECTING MAXIMA'S, QUEST'S, ALTIMA'S, PATHFINDER'S, &XTERRRA'S. WE CONTACTED NISSAN USA & WERE INFORMED THAT NISSAN HAD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM AND SINCE OUR 36,000 MILES HAD EXPIRED WE WERE ON OUR OWN. (CASE #6392191) NO CHOICES LEFT WE PAID THIS REPLACEMENT OF DEFECTIVE PARTS TO THE PRICE TAG OF $2800.93. APPEALED TO NISSAN USA AGAIN BUT WAS TREATED LIKE THE PROVERBIAL RED-HEADED SON EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE PURCHASED 3 NEW NISSAN MAXIMA'S IN THE LAST 10 YEARS. WE BOUGHT A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA BRAND NEW. LAST YEAR 2009 THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP AND THE AIR CONDITIONER WENT OUT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE AIR WOULD BE $1400 SO WHEN THE TRANNY WAS A PROBLEM I KNEW NOT TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WOULD JERK AND SLAM INTO GEAR. I HAD MY 2 CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND IT COMPLETELY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL TRANSMISSION PLACE AND WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION FOR $3000. THE CAR HAS BEEN BABIED AND SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES. IT IS GARAGED KEPT AND ALL MAINTENANCE DONE. THE CAR WAS LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD WHEN ALL THESE PROBLEMS STARTED. AFTER SEEING ALL THE COMPLAINTS I BELIEVE NISSAN SHOULD RECALL AND REFUND THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION. MY MECHANIC CANNOT GET ANY HELP FROM NISSAN AND IT STILL HAS ISSUES. MY CHILDREN AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED THE WAY THE CAR LOST ALL GEARS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PULL OVER. THERE ARE MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION THAN TOYOTA AND LOOK WHAT THEY ARE DOING. DO PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE FOR NISSAN TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY? 2005 MAXIMA HAD LESS THAN 77,000 MILES ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY WHICH IS ONLY 60,000 MILES. NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE 05 MAXIMA BUT HAS REFUSED TO ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
GOODYEAR RS-A 245/45-R18 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA: SON DRIVING HOME FROM LUBBOCK TEXAS TO PORTALES NM, BACK TIRE HAD FLAT HE CHANGED TIRE AND INSIDE SIDE WALL WAS TORN UP! IT WAS AT NIGHT SO HE DROVE HOME. HE COULD NOT SEE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE THAT WAS DONE BASED ON LACK OF LIGHT. NEXT MORNING I GOT IN CAR AND I COULD NOT BRAKE. I WAS LUCKY AND MANAGED TO STOP MY CAR. I LOOKED UNDER CAR AND FOUND MOISTURE SLAPPED ALL UP UNDER THE TIRE AREA OF VEHICLE. JACKED CAR BACK UP AND FOUND BRAKE LINE CUT IN HALF. LOOKED IN TRUNK AND FOUND TIRE BLOWN OUT WITH WIRES (RESEMBLING HOT WIRE STICKING OUT OF TIRE SIDEWALL. WIRE WAS COMING OUT. THEY LOOKED LIKE STRINGS... BUT METAL AND LOTS OF THEM! THIS IS THE RADIAL PART OF TIRE? IT WRAPPED AROUND MY AXEL AND AROUND THE BRAKE LINE. IT ALSO PULLED THE SOLID STEAL BRACKET THE BRAKE LINE WAS MOUNTED TO OUT OF PLACE. THE MOUNT WAS PULLED DOWN AND CUT THROUGH THE METAL OF MY CAR BASED ON TENSION OF THE WIRES FROM TIRES PULLING IT DOWN. MY SON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!!!!!! OR SOMEONE ELSE. BRAKE LINE, RIM. TIRE ALL RUINED. WHAT WAS THE SCARIEST PART IS SOMEONE COULD HAVE DIED. THIS TIRE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I HAVE 63K ON THIS VEHICLE. HAVE REPLACED ALL TIRES 2 TIMES WHICH MEANS I HAVE GONE THROUGH 12 TIRES. ALMOST ALL TIRES REPLACED DUE TO SIDEWALL FAILURE. TWO MONTHS AGO I REPLACED ANOTHER TIRE BASED ON TREAD FALLING OFF AND WRAPPING AROUND THE AXEL. THESE TIRES NEED TO BE RECALLED THEY ARE GOING TO KILL PEOPLE!!!!! TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM WITH 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. AFTER HAVING MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED (DIFFERENT COMPLAINT), THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TIMING CHAIN GUIDES BREAKING AND THAT MY TIMING CHAIN AND CORRESPONDING PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $1600. I THOUGHT THIS WAS A PROBLEM BECAUSE MY CAR IS NOT OLD AND SHOULD NOT NEED THIS REPAIR. I DID RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF CASES WITH THE SAME DEFECT IN NISSAN MAXIMA'S. I WOULD LIKE MY COMPLAINT HEARD AND A POSSIBLE RECALL DONE IF POSSIBLE. THIS IS CLEARLY A NISSAN DEFECT AND PROBLEM AND NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THE CAR. *TR
