TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITH 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES I NOTICED MY TRANSMISSION SLIPPING FROM 1ST AND 2ND GEARS. THEN IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND STARTED JERKING WHEN COMING TO A STOP. I TOOK IT TO NISSAN DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT $4000. AFTER REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION THE PROBLEM IS GONE AND CAR IS BACK TO NORMAL. I DID RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF CASES WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. HOW CAN I GET MY COMPLAINT HEARD AND RECONCILED BECAUSE THIS IS TRULY A NISSAN DEFECT AND NOT JUST ORDINARY WEAR AND TEAR ON THE CAR. I THOUGHT INITIALLY I JUST HAD BAD LUCK. I BOUGHT MY NISSAN MAXIMA AT 58,000 MILES FROM THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AT GWINNETT PLACE NISSAN, DULUTH,GA. AT ABOUT 89,000 MILES MY TRANSMISSION STARTED JERKING WHEN SWITCHING FROM GEARS 1,2, AND 3. EVEN WHEN INCREASING SPEED OR DOWNSHIFTING. I TOOK IT TO GWINNETT PLACE NISSAN AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS AN ENGINE MOUNT PROBLEM. I SPECIFIED THAT IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION BUT THEY SAID IT WAS DEFINITELY THE ENGINE MOUNTS, SO I GOT THEM REPLACED FOR $1500, AFTER THE FIX I STILL FEEL JERKING AND NOW ITS GETTING WORSE. *TR
DEFECTIVE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK - 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA THE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK, WHETHER ACTUATED FROM THE BUTTON ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR OR BY THE KEY FOB, DOES NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOOR(S) RELIABLY. THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY PROBLEM. MY WIFE DID NOT EVEN KNOW FOR SEVERAL MONTHS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT LOCKING WHEN SHE USED THE REMOTE KEY FOB. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED NOT ONLY IN A THEFT BUT ALSO A VEHICLE INTRUSION BY AN ASSAILANT. I WILL SUBMIT MY VEHICLE IDN LATER. *TR
MY CAR HAS A SHIFTING PROBLEM. IT SHIFTS VERY HARD BETWEEN 1 AND 2 GEAR. IT WILL ALSO REV TO HIGH RPM WHEN GOING DOWN HILLS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. LAST YEAR I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN MECHANIC AND HAD THE MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED AND THAT HELPED SOME, BUT THE CAR STILL SHIFTS VERY HARD AND BUCKS LIKE A BRONCO. I ONLY HAVE 123000 MILES ON IT AND IT SHOULD NOT BE ACTING LIKE THIS. I'VE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS YEAR MODEL AND ALL THE ISSUES PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. I THOUGHT MAYBE I JUST GOT A LEMON, BUT IT SEEMS THERE WAS A LOT OF LEMONS IN THIS MODEL AND YEAR CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO JERK WHEN ACCELERATING TO HIGHER SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, FOLLOWED BY AN UNINTENDED LUNGE AND FORCEFUL ACCELERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTING IN THE FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD GEARS. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000. UPDATED 03/04/10. *LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO COMPLAINED THAT WHEN ACCELERATING, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD JERK. THE DEALER FOUND INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS BURNED. ALSO THE FRONT AND REAR ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN. THE CONSUMER HAD AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE SHIFTING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. 08/11/10. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND JERK VIOLENTLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO DIFFERENT TIMES FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WAS BEING REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH THE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE. ONCE THE VEHICLE RESPONDED AND ACCELERATED IT LUNGED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND SUGGESTED THE CONTACT HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
I LIVE IN WASHINGTON STATE. I BOUGHT MY 2005 MAXIMA SE IN FEB 24 2007 WITH 48,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN IT REACH 98,000 MILES (MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES), MY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BEGAN DISPLAYING SHIFTING PROBLEMS. 1.FROM PARK AND/OR REVERSE TO DRIVE IT HAD A 5 SECOND DELAY TO SHIFT INTO GEAR, AND WHEN IT DID IT SHIFTED HARD. 2.TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR DURING SLOW AND GO DRIVING CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV AT HIGH RPM?S AND THEN SLAMMING INTO GEAR. 3.VERY HARD SHIFTS BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR WHEN SHIFTING UP AND DOWN AT SPEEDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH. 4.ONCE IT SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR, AND SHUT MY ENGINE DOWN. DURING SLOW AND GO DRIVING I COULD FEEL THE TRANSMISSION BEGIN TO SHIFT AT15 MPH, AND GET A HARD SHIFT AT ABOUT 20 AND 25 MPH. IT SHIFTED HARD BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW GEARS. I ALSO, EXPERIENCED LAG TIME, AND HIGH RPM?S BEFORE IT SLAMMED INTO GEARS WHEN SHIFTING. EVERY TRANSMISSION PLACE I WENT TO WANTED $3500 TO $4000 TO REPLACE IT. AS AN ALTERNATIVE, I BOUGHT A USED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH 62,000 MILES IN DEC 15 2008, AND HAD IT INSTALLED FOR $2000.00. AFTER 150,000 MILES (MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES) ON THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE IDENTICAL PROBLEMS AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. I?VE HAD THE CAM SENSORS, SOLENOIDS, AND FLUIDS REPLACED AND IT STILL RESPONSE THE SAME WAY. I FIND IT ODD OF 2 DIFFERENT TRANSMISSIONS THAT ACTING THE SAME WAY. ALSO, EVER SINCE I GOT THIS CAR I HAVE TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS EVER YEAR. NOT GOOD FOR A CAR THAT COST $40,000 NEW FROM A COMPANY THAT USED TO HAVE A GOOD REPUTATION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50-55 MPH HE HEARD A BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. HE THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE NOISE CONTINUED. HE DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. ONE DAY (72K MILES) THE TRANSMISSION JUST STARTED JERKING HORRIBLY BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR DURING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS CHANGED AS ADVISED BUT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NOW I AM BEING TOLD BY LOCAL SHOPS AND DEALERS THAT I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH COSTS UP TO $4000!!! *TR
TL*THE CONTACTS OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A TIRES, SIZE P195/60R15. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SIDEWALLS WERE SEPARATING ON THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE COMPANY AND THEY STATED THAT ALL FOUR SIDEWALLS ON THE TIRES WERE SEPARATING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE FILED CLAIM NUMBER 1006415 WITH GOODYEAR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,366 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,360. UPDATED 11/17/08 *BF UPDATED 11/18/08. *JB
MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF WHAT MAY BE SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ,MAINLY AFTER VEHICLE IS WARMED UP TRANSMISSION HAS A HARSH SHIFT ,AND HARD JERKING THAT WOULD START IN 1ST GEAR GOING INTO 2ND GEAR ,THIS HAPPENED AROUND 80,000 MILES .I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT FOR WHATEVER REASON THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR ,AT CURRENTLY 148,000 MILES CAR STILL HAS EXACT THE SAME ISSUE ..CAR DOES RUNS GREAT ON HIGHWAY ONLY .I'VE SEEN I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS TYPE OF ISSUE MAXIMA IS A NICE CAR BUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS NOT SO ..SPECIALLY SINCE IT COST FROM 3,000 TO 4,000 BRAND NEW HOPEFULLY THERE'S SOME TYPE OF RECALL SO THEY CAN HELPS US OUT HERE AND GET THE PROBLEM SOLVED. *TR
TO NHTSA: I AM FILING A COMPLAINT AGAINST NISSAN CAR DEALERSHIP OF SHAKER HEIGHTS. ON OCTOBER 19TH, 2008, I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SE ON THE HIGHWAY ALONG A STRAIGHTAWAY WHEN MY SKYLIGHT MOON ROOF SUDDENLY IMPLODE. IT WAS A LOUD BURST CAUSING SMALL MICROSCOPIC GLASS PARTICLES TO SCATTER THROUGHOUT MY INTERIOR. THE GLASS CUT MY ARM AND FLEW IN MY HAIR. I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE SLIGHTEST POSSIBLE TWISTING OR TORQUE OF THE FRAME BENDING WITH THE ROAD. THE 2004 MODEL OF MY VEHICLE RECENTLY HAD A RECALL DUE TO THIS EXACT ISSUE. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURE IN JAN. 2005, I SUSPECT THAT IT WAS MADE UNDER THE SAME PARAMETERS AS THE 2004 MODEL. I BELIEVE THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE COVERED AS WELL DUE TO THE SAME ISSUE. ALL FOUR DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS FAILED, NO DOORS CAN BE UNLOCKED OR LOCKED VIA THE DOOR SWITCH OR THE REMOTES. VERY UNSAFE, CAN NOT GET CHILDREN OUT OF BACK SEATS WITHOUT REACHING INTO THE BACK SEAT THROUGH THE INTERIOR AREA. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR OVER AN HOUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL TRANSMISSION MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000 MILES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60000.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA 3.5 IN EFFINGHAM, IL. SHE WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN OFF OF KELLER DRIVE ONTO WEST JEFFERSON STREET. AFTER THE LIGHT CHANGED, SHE PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE "BARELY" MOVED - THAN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED VERY QUICKLY - SHE THOUGHT HER FOOT MAY HAVE SLIPPED OFF THE ACCELERATOR. SHE DROVE FIVE BLOCKS AND CAME TO A STOP INTERSECTION OF MAPLE STREET AND JEFFERSON STREET. AFTER STOPPING SHE BEGAN TO PROCEED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN. AFTER LEAVING EFFINGHAM SHE DROVE HOME TO METROPOLIS WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 160 MILES. I CAME HOME FROM WORK AND SHE EXPLAINED THE TWO INCIDENTS THAT HAD OCCURRED IN EFFINGHAM. I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND IN A FEW SECONDS THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT APPEARED. I CHECKED THE OWNERS MANUAL AND IT STATED THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT MAY BE THE RESULT OF AN IMPROPER FITTING FUEL TANK CAP. I CHECKED THE FUEL TANK CAP AND IT APPEARED ON CORRECTLY. I REMOVED THE FUEL TANK CAP AND RESET IT AGAIN AS THE OWNER MANUAL STATED. ACCORDING TO NISSAN THE LIGHT MAY GO OFF AFTER A SHORT TRIP. WE DROVE TO PADUCAH KY. AND RETURNED TO METROPOLIS - APPROXIMATELY A 20 MILE ROUND TRIP. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT REMAINED ON. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE, WHICH HAS 51,000 MILES ON IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE (A1 AUTOMOTIVE). A1 TECH'S PLACED THE VEHICLE ON A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE WHICH INDICATED THE CODE IDLE ADAPTATION. A1 SERVICE PERSONNEL CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND ADVISED THAT IF THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT RETURNS OR THE SAME ACCELERATION PROBLEMS RETURN THAN THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACED. THE NEED TO REPLACE A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY WHEN A VEHICLE HAS 50,000 SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN THE NISSAN OWNERS MANUAL. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AT CENTRALIA, IL. AND WE CAN PROVIDE ALL SERVICE DOCUMENTATION. WE WANT TO GO ON RECORD AND REPORT THIS PROBLEM WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE CRANK SENSOR FAILED. THE MECHANIC RESET THE SENSOR. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 68,174.
I FIRST PURCHASED MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA LAST YEAR AND IT HAD 70,000+ MILES, IT WAS USED, AFTER THE FIRST WEEK I ENDED UP TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE IT WAS JERKING AND SWITCHING. THEY INFORMED ME IT WAS THE MOTOR MOUNTS SO THEY REPLACED THEN. WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK THE SAME PROBLEM WAS HAPPENING, SO AT MY NEXT OIL CHANGE I INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM AGAIN, THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG, SO I LET IT GO. JUST RECENTLY THE CAR HAS BEEN JERKING ONCE I TRY TO ACCELERATE. THE WORST PART IS THAT I FOUND AN ACTUAL SITE WITH 30+ OTHER 2005 MAXIMA OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WHO WERE GIVEN THE SAME RESPONSE. IF THAT MANY CARS ARE DEFECTIVE SHOULDN'T THE MANUFACTURER FIX THE PROBLEM OR SUBMIT A RECALL. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ADJUSTER SWITCH FAILED AND CAUSED THE SEAT TO OVERHEAT. THE FAILURE ALSO AFFECTED THE STEERING COLUMN AND IT CAN NO LONGER BE ADJUSTED UP, DOWN, OR SIDEWAYS. IT REMAINS IN THE LOCKED POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE HEATED SEAT SWITCH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SWITCH AT THE COST OF $210. THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT PROVIDE REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMPLAINTS. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V512000 (SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:POWER ADJUST). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 88,000. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HITTING POTHOLES AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND SEAL BREAKING CAUSING CAR TO GO OUT OF CONTROL. CAR HAS 51,000 MILES ON IT. MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SL CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE DASH BOARD ON THE DRIVER'S LEFT SIDE ON 2/05/08 AT APPROX 12:00 THAT DAY. AFTER RETURNING FROM A SHORT DRIVE, I SMELLED SMOKE. UPON PARKING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND EXITING THE CAR WE NOTICE FIRE COMING FROM UNDER THE DASH BOARD. ONCE WE EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPT WE REALIZED THE SOURCE APPEARED TO BE IN THE AREA OF THE FUSE HOUSING AREA. I'VE HAD A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. MY SERVICE RECORD IS QUITE EXTENSIVE ON THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ONE VEHICLE. THE LATEST BEING 12/28/07 WHEN I HAD MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICING FOR THE DRIVER SEAT FAILURE TO MOVE. MY VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME ON 12/31/07 AND THE SEAT WAS OPERABLE THEN, BUT I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH THAT THEY WEREN'T SURE IF THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED BUT IT WAS WORKING AT THE PRESENT TIME. AS AN ENSUING RESULT I WAS UNAWARE I WAS DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT COULD OF WENT IN FLAMES WHEN BEING DRIVEN. I'VE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT NISSAN CORP AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO MAKE CONTACT WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN THE REP THAT TOOK MY INFORMATION ON 2/8/08. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR HESITATING AND THE RPM RAISES VERY HIGH WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE ALSO BEEN EXPERIENCING HEAVY ENGINE VIBRATIONS WHILE BRAKING WHEN DRIVING. I TOOK NISSAN SERVICE AND HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC DONE AND THEY CAME BACK WITH A CODE FOR THE TRANSMISSION. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED, WHICH I HAD DONE 6 MONTHS PRIOR. NEVERTHELESS, I HAD IT FLUSHED AGAIN AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO ESCALATE. I DECIDED TO LOOK ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF I COULD POSSIBLY FIND A SOLUTION. I FOUND THAT THESE PROBLEMS WERE COMMON WITH MANY 2004-2005 MAXIMA OWNERS AND HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO NISSAN FOR MANY YEARS, BUT THEY REFUSED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES. IN EACH CASE THE PROBLEM BEGAN RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, WHICH MAKES ME THINK THEY WERE BUILT LIKE THIS PURPOSELY. I AM NOW GETTING A SHIFT MALFUNCTION CODE AND WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THESE ARE VERY EXPENSIVE VEHICLES AND IT IS JUST INEXCUSABLE FOR NISSAN TO INSTALL FAULTY MOTOR MOUNTS AND TRANSMISSIONS IN THEM AND NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR
DECEMBER 2007 - TOOK CAR INTO NISSAN DEALER BECAUSE TRANSMISSION WAS HESITATING AND SLAMMING HARD INTO THE "DRIVE" GEAR. DEALER DISCOVERED TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. JANUARY 2008, I RECEIVED MY CAR BACK WITH A REMAN TRANSMISSION FROM NISSAN. FEBRUARY THROUGH MAY 2008 - TOOK CAR INTO DEALER A FEW MORE TIMES DUE TO ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION AGAIN. OCTOBER 2008 - RETURNED CAR AGAIN TO NISSAN BECAUSE ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION WAS OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. TOLD ME IT WAS DUE TO (2) TORN ENGINE MOUNTS. I REPLACED THEM BY MY OWN LOCAL MECHANIC. A FEW DAYS AFTER THEY WERE REPLACED, THE TRANSMISSION WAS ACTING UP AGAIN. TOOK CAR BACK TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE (2) REAR ENGINE MOUNTS WERE CRACKED/TORN. I ENDED UP REPLACING THOSE AS WELL. ONE WEEK LATER, THE ISSUE CAME BACK. OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 2008 - TOOK CAR BACK TO THE SAME NISSAN DEALER 3 MORE TIMES AND EVEN AFTER SHOWING THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THE HEAD TECHNICIAN THE PROBLEM THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS "NORMAL" AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. STOPPED AT A LOCAL SHOP, GOT OUT OF CAR TO MAIL A LETTER, CAR STILL RUNNING, KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE DOORS LOCKED ON THE CAR WHILE IT WAS RUNNING AND NO ONE IN THE DRIVERS SEAT. LUCKILY I DID NOT HAVE MY CHILD IN THE CAR SEAT, IT WAS HOT AND IT TOOK ME HAVING TO GET SOMEONE TO GO TO MY HOME AND RETRIEVE A SPARE KEY TO OPEN THE DOOR. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND BECAUSE IT WAS 10 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY, THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR IT. I FILED A COMPLAINT EARLIER, BUT NEVER HEARD A RESPONSE. THIS ALSO HAPPENED TO MY 2005 ALTIMA. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS PRESENT DURING OR AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. BOTH VEHICLES WERE DAMAGED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AFTER IT WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL, HOWEVER, IT KEPT ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AS IF THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HIS RESIDENCE WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE APPLIED. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,450 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,500. THE CONSUMER STATED THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR WAS REPLACE AT HIS EXPENSE HOWEVER, HE DOES NOT FEEL THIS WAS THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS THE THROTTLE BODY SHORTING OUT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 19,839.
