I TOOK MY CAR IN TO MY MECHANIC AT CITY AUTO REPAIR TO BALANCE MY TIRES AND MY MECHANIC FOUND THAT UNDERNEATH MY CAR ON MY DRIVER'S SIDE IS RUSTING OUT AND HAS A HOLE IN IT. THERE IS APPARENTLY WATER COMING IN THE CAR FROM SOMEWHERE AND RUSTING OUT THE FLOOR PAN ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR. I GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM AND THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH MAXIMA'S AND ALTIMA'S. NISSAN JUST DID A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, BUT ONLY RECALLED SUV'S. IT'S A FIRE HAZARD BECAUSE THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS CAN SHORT OUT AND CAUSE A FIRE. I WOULD ASK THAT ANY AND ALL NISSAN CARS (NOT JUST SUV'S) BE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM AND REFUSED TO PAY FOR REPAIR OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TURNS ON EVEN AFTER CLEARING SOLUSPRO SCANNER CODE, "B1049 DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE (OPEN)". I AM CONCERNED MY DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG WILL SPONTANEOUSLY RELEASE OR NOT RELEASE AT ALL WHEN NEEDED. IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO THE DRIVER, ALL PASSENGERS ARE AT RISK OF FATAL INJURY. I CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, AND WAS TOLD THE DIAGNOSTIC HAD TO BE RUN BY A DEALER MECHANIC BEFORE THEY CAN DO ANYTHING. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NO CAMPAIGN CURRENTLY OPEN FOR MY ISSUES. THE BODY ISSUE HAS TO DO WITH POOR PAINT OR CLEAR COAT QUALITY COMMON TO NISSAN VEHICLES. WHILE THE REST OF MY CAR LOOKS FINE, THE HOOD AND THE ROOF LOOK HORRIBLE. LIKE SOMEONE TOOK SANDING PAPER TO THE CLEAR COAT AND THE COLOR IS FADED AND GETTING WORSE AS TIME PASSES. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN FOR THIS COSMETIC DETAIL. I TRADED IN MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA BECAUSE THE ROOF LINER SAGGED AS SOON AS I BEGAN DRIVING WITH THE SUNROOF OPEN. I HOPE THAT THE RESULTS OF THE AIR BAG ISSUE ARE AS MINOR AS THE COSMETIC ISSUES, OTHERWISE NISSAN IS GOING TO HAVE SOME SERIOUS PROBLEMS ON THERE HANDS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE DRIVER SIDE FLOORBOARD HAS BEGAN TO RUST THRU AS A RESULT OF A HOLE LEFT DURING MANUFACTURING. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT (SINCE IT IS NOT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE). AS A RESULT OF THE HOLE WATER AND SALT HAVE BEGAN TO RUST THROUGH THE DRIVER SIDE FLOORBOARD. MY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHOM TOOK PICTURES AND SENT TO NISSAN. NISSAN'S RESPONSE WAS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IT IS A RESULT OF BEING IN AN AREA HAT USES SALT DURING WINTER. FORTUNATELY IT LOOKS LIKE THE RUST WAS DETECTED BEFORE IT REACHED THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT WHICH WOULD CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE (ESPECIALLY DURING AN ACCIDENT). ONE DOES NOT EXPECT A FLOORBOARD TO RUST THRU ON A SEVEN YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH LOW MILEAGE. *TR
THE AIRBAG SENSOR FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER IS FAULTY IN MY 2007 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE LIGHT IS ALWAYS FLASHING IN THE DASH BOARD. I NOTICED NISSAN HAD THIS PROBLEM ON OTHER VEHICLES, BUT MY MAXIMA WAS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION PRESENT AND A HOLE LOCATED ON THE DRIVER SIDE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND STATED THEY WOULD HAVE TO EJECT THE DRIVER'S SEAT FROM THE VEHICLE, WELD NEW MEDAL TO COVER THE HOLE AND PUT AN UNDER COATING ON THE WELD NEW MEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
THIS FRIDAY OCTOBER 24TH I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME IN MY 2007 MAXIMA SE (VIN: [XXX]) WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING WITH NO CONTROL OVER THE STEERING WHEEL. LUCKILY I WAS AT THE ENTRANCE OF MY SUBDIVISION MINUTE AFTER TAKING EXIT FROM A 50 MPH STATE ROUTE. MY CAR RAN OVER THE CURB BARELY MISSING A RARE COLLISION WITH A SUV WHOSE DRIVER HAD NO CLUE WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY CAR. I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE CAR STALLED ON 50 MPH STATE ROUTE DURING THE RUSH HOUR. THE PROBLEM TURNED OUT TO BE A FAULTY CAM SHAFT SENSOR THAT I'VE ORDERED AND WILL BE ARRIVING IN A DAY OR TWO. REGARDLESS OF THE FAULTY PART I BELIEVE THE CAR BEHAVIOR IS UNACCEPTABLE AS A RESULT OF THAT. I DID SPENT TIME RESEARCHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND IT LOOKS I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE AS THERE ARE MANY NISSAN OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE THEIR OWN HORROR STORIES TO TELL. I GUESS I'M EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I'M WRITING THIS EMAIL IN PERSON VS. SOMEONE ELSE DOING IT FOR ME. PASSENGERS SIDE FRONT FLOOR PAN RUSTED THROUGH AS IF CAR IS 40 YEARS OLD. NOT ONLY IS THIS A BODY FRAME DEFECT BUT A SAFETY ISSUE. HUNDREDS OF ON LINE FORUMS NOTE THE PROBLEM IS OBVIOUS AND NISSAN REFUSES TO ADMIT DESIGN DEFECT. AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WON'T TURN OFF. I'M WORRIED IT WILL SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOY AT ANYTIME. IT IS THE OPINION OF VARIOUS CAR WASH ESTABLISHMENTS THAT ROOF AND HOOD PAINT IS A COMMON DEFECT ON NISSAN VEHICLES, INCLUDING MINI-VANS. MY CAR'S HOOD AND ROOF LOOK LIKE I'VE LIVED BY THE SEA FOR YEARS. TRUTH IS THAT I'VE ALWAYS LIVED INLAND. THERE'S NO REASON WHY MY CAR SHOULD LOOK 20 YEARS OLD! *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON AN AVERAGE DAY. AS I MADE A RIGHT TURN, AHEAD OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 20-30MPH. WITH TRAFFIC SWIFTLY APPROACHING AT SPEEDS NEAR 40-50MPH, LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A NEARBY GAS STATION.NONE OF MY CHECK ENGINE/WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON.I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT BACK UP BUT THE ISSUE REMAINED.WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WOULDN'T O OVER 30MPH AND WAS MAKING A HEAVING VIBRATION NOISE EVERY TIME I STOPPED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHO ULTIMATELY RECOMMENDED THE REPAIRS OUTLINED IN THE SERVICE BULLETIN. MY WARRANTY COMPANY DENIED THE CLAIM "CITING WATER DAMAGE", BUT THE BULLETIN LISTS THE PFP (PRIMARY FAILED PART) AS THE "HOUSING ASSY- REAR AXLE,RH" (WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED). I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED (FROM A NISSAN DEALER) AND BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED I WAS FORCED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS ($1,000+) ON A VEHICLE THAT I BARLEY HAD FOR 1 YEAR. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS (AS RECOMMENDED BY THE DEALERSHIP) TO TRY AND GET SOME TYPE OF ASSISTANCE WITH THIS ISSUE. THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM SINCE THE NISSAN WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED ON THE VEHICLE. NISSAN IS VERY WELL AWARE OF THIS DEFECT THAT IS A SEVERE SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO THE OBVIOUS DESIGN. I LUCKILY HAD TIME AND SPACE TO MOVE MY VEHICLE SAFELY OFF THE ROAD; THE NEXT PERSON MAY NOT BE AS LUCKY. DRIVERS FLOOR BOARD STRUCTURE IS RUSTED OUT, I DO NOT FEEL SAFE LETTING MY WIFE DRIVE THIS CAR. *TR

AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED HEAD ON INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED STERNUM. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. JCC

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARDS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. UPDATED 8/22/14*CN
I TOOK MY NISSAN IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AT PEP BOYS AND WAS IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED OF RUST ON THE FLOOR BOARDS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE DRIVER SIDE IS BECOMING A SAFETY ISSUE AND CAN FAIL AT ANY TIME DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM. I NOTIFIED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS GIVEN A QUOTE FOR THE REPAIRS. I FORWARDED SAID QUOTE TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS AT NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA AND WAS LATER NOTIFIED THAT THE MANUFACTURE DECLINED ANY SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT MANY CARS OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED BEFORE BOTH WITH THE NHTSA AS WELL AS THE BBB. IF IT IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECT AND TRY TO REPAIR ALL ISSUES BEFORE PEOPLE ARE HURT. WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN SHOP I WAS ALERTED TO THE FACT BOTH FRONT BOARDS WERE RUSTED THROUGH TO THE GROUND. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,631 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,800. *TR
MY ABS/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM FAILED. DUE TO THE SYSTEM FAILING THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONS. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT THE RECOMMENDED SPEED. DUE TO THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM FAILING MY VEHICLE DECELERATED QUICKLY CAUSING A UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR ME, MY PASSENGER AND THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME. FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME WAS AT A SAFE DISTANCE AND NO ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO SAFE LOCATION BECAUSE THIS MALFUNCTION CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION TO NOT SHIFT FROM A LOW GEAR. THIS PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND I HAVE JUST FOUND THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. YET THERE HAS BEEN NO RESPONSIBLE ACTION TAKEN BY NISSAN. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE. *TR

I WAS CHANGING THE OIL ON MY MAXIMA AND NOTICED BOTH DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS FLOOR BOARDS ALMOST TOTALLY RUSTED THROUGH. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DUE TO SAFETY OF BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. AFTER LOOKING THROUGH THE COMPLAINT SECTION OF THIS WEBSITE IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT NISSAN SHOULD NEED TO RECALL. *TR
WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC TO FIX THE BRAKES, HE DID NOTICE THAT THE FLOOR PANEL HAD A HUGE HOLE DUE RUST. THIS WAS IN THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S SIDE. HIS COMMENT WAS: "THE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FLOOR PANEL IS SUCH THAT IT COULD HAVE AN IMPACT IN THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE THE FACT THAT THE RUST HAS COMPROMISED THE STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE." THE MECHANIC AND MYSELF CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE RUST IS BECAUSE OF THE POOR QUALITY OF THE METAL PART ON THE METAL PANEL. A 7 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULDN'T HAVE THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. I DROVE A NISSAN MAXIMA ALL THE WAY TO 250,000 MILES AND THE FLOOR PANEL DIDN'T SHOW ANY SIGN OF RUST. WHAT IS THE PROPER STEPS I MUST TAKE SO TO REQUEST FROM NISSAN MAXIMA TO COVER THE REPAIR? SHOULD THIS CAR'S CONDITION HAVE A RECALL MANDATE FROM THE NHTSA? YOUR HELP WITH THIS MATTER WILL BE APPRECIATED. *TR
THE CAR MAKES A KNOCKING SOUND WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONER. THE COST FOR REPAIR IS 2500. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HEARD OF A TIMING CHAIN GOING BAD WITH A CAR WITH THIS MILEAGE. I AM VERY UPSET LOOKED THE PROBLEM UP ON THE INTERNET AND NOTICED ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THIS ON THEIR CARS. I FEEL NISSAN SHOULD REPLACE THIS AT THEIR COST. *TR

THE SLUGGISH SPEED CONTINUED OFF AND ON UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION. ON MY RETURN TRIP HOME, THE MULTITUDE OF LIGHTS CAME ON DURING THE DRIVE (TCS OFF, BRAKE, ABS, SLIP) AND THE CAR WOULD PERIODICALLY GO BETWEEN SLUGGISH AND REGULAR SPEED. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HAVE A BAD ABS ACTUATOR AND ONE BAD SPEED SENSOR, TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS ABOUT $2400. FROM WHAT I'VE READ, THIS IS A RECURRING NISSAN PROBLEM ACROSS MODELS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE THAT WE SHOULD BE HAVE TO PAY FOR A COMPANY MISTAKE. *TR

COMING HOME FROM A TRIP THAT LASTED APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES, I TURNED ONTO MY STREET AFTER ABOUT ANOTHER MILE I WENT OVER A BUMP, AND IT SOUNDED LIKE I HAD SCRAPPED THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. TO MY AMAZEMENT MY RIGHT REAR TIRE HAD LOST ALL AIR WITHIN SECONDS. IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY LIKE I PREVIOUSLY STATED I WOULD HAVE SPUN OUT. AFTER CHANGING THE TIRE I EXAMINED THE FLAT AND OBSERVED THAT THE TIRE HAD TWO PIECES OF TREAD "TORN" OUT OF THE TIRE IN TWO SEPARATE LOCATIONS. THE FIRST WOULD BE AT APPROXIMATELY 2 O'CLOCK AND THE SECOND AT 9 O'CLOCK. NOT DIRECTLY PARALLEL TO EACH OTHER. THE TIRE HAD NOT BEEN WORN ON THE INSIDE WHERE THE TREAD FAILED, SO I DEEMED IT NOT TO BE A CHASSIS PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE TIRE AND STILL HAVE IT AT THIS MOMENT. *TR

AFTER LEAVING HOME & DRIVING 1 MILE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO HIGHWAY SPEED AND HAD DIFFICULTY GOING OVER 30 MPH. AT JUST OVER 40 MPH THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT OVER 4,500 RPM. NOT WANTING TO RISK DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALER (20+ MI.), I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A SHOP CLOSER TO HOME. WHEN I DROVE TO THE SHOP IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN ANY SPEED OVER 40 MPH AND THE CAR SLOWED TO UNDER 25 MPH GOING UP AN INCLINE. HALF WAY TO THE SHOP, APPROX. 4 MILES, SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE DASH. AT THE SHOP THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WAS SHOWING A PROBLEM WITH THE RIGHT REAR SENSOR, AFTER TALKING TO THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE RIGHT REAR ABS SENSOR SHOULD BE REPLACED. THAT WAS DONE BUT IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. MORE PHONE CALLS WERE MADE AND THE CONSENSUS WAS THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR (CONTROL UNIT) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE NISSAN DEALER INDICATED THAT ABS BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEMS ARE COMMON WITH THIS VEHICLE. A FAILURE OF SUCH A CRITICAL PART IN THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND THE ABS SYSTEM CONTROL UNIT IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. WITH A VEHICLE WITH JUST OVER 50,000 MILES, IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING PROBLEM HERE.
