WE WERE DRIVING AND THE CAR LOST SPEED. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY HAD FAILED. THIS WAS THE SECOND NEW BATTERY. THEN, THE CAR RAN UNTIL THE BATTERY WENT DEAD AND AGAIN THE CAR STOPPED ON THE ROAD IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING. AGAIN THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THIS TIME THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD ALTERNATOR. QUESTIONS BOUGHT UP THAT THE 2008 NISSAN MURANOS HAD A CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE FAULTY ALTERNATORS BUT NOT THE 2009. PROBLEM IS THAT WITHOUT WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CHARGING SYSTEM, THE CAR BATTERY GOES DEAD AND THE CAR STOPS WHILE DRIVING. THE RISK OF CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT IS EXTREME. *TR
I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE WITH THIS MANY BLIND SPOTS! I HAVE HAD SO MANY "CLOSE CALLS" AND IT FINALLY CAUGHT UP TO ME. I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE AND BACKED INTO A CAR. THE CAR WAS DOUBLE PARKED BUT I LOOKED IN MY MIRRORS AND OVER MY SHOULDER AND NEVER SEEN THE CAR. THIS BEING SAID, I WAS ALREADY SCARED OF MY MURANO PRIOR TO THIS BECAUSE OF THE SIDE BLIND SPOTS. I HAVE ALMOST HIT PEDESTRIANS, CARS, AND BICYCLISTS CROSSING THE STREET ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WHERE THE SIDE MIRRORS ARE IS WAY TO BIG, ALONG WITH THE MIRRORS, THERE IS A HUGE BLIND SPOT. I HAVE BEEN VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN TURNING BECAUSE OF THIS BUT NEVER REALIZED HOW THE BLIND SPOT IN THE SIDE REAR WAS I TILL I HIT THAT CAR. THE REAR BACK WINDOWS ARE SMALL BUT THE ISSUES IS THE WINDOWS ARE TO HIGH AND THE BODY IS AT AN UPWARD SLANT LEAVING NO VIEW WHEN LOOKING OVER YOUR SHOULDER. THIS GIVES PEOPLE A SENSE THAT THEY CAN SEE BUT YOU CAN NOT SEE A CAR SITTING AT YOUR REAR QUARTER PANEL. WITH ALL OF THE BLIND SPOTS I AM AFRAID I WILL RUN OVER A PEDESTRIAN WALKING ACROSS THE STREET AS I AM TURNING AND NOW AFRAID I WILL BACK INTO SOMETHING OR SOMEONE DUE TO THE SIDE REAR BLIND SPOTS. *TR
I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT NEEDED A NEW SEAL ON THE TRANSFER CASE. IF I DID NOT DO THIS THE CAR WOULD LOCK UP AND NOT MOVE. THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE 1500 TO 3800 DOLLARS. IT SEEMS THAT NISSAN HAS A HISTORY WITH ITS POWER TRAINS AND SHOULD NOT EXPECT A CUSTOMER TO REPAIR IT AND BE TOLD THAT IT JUST HAPPENS AND WILL AGAIN WITH SUCH MINIMAL MILEAGE. I HEARD A FEW OTHER CUSTOMERS BEING TOLD THAT THEY ALSO HAD MAJOR REPAIRS THAT WERE NEEDED WHEN GOING IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. IT DOES APPEAR THAT DEALERSHIPS HAVE A WAY TO EXTORT LARGE SUMS OF MONEY FROM PEOPLE IN A STRUGGLING ECONOMY! *TR
AFTER STARTING FROM A COLD START (PARKED OVERNIGHT) I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO PRIOR SIGN OF BRAKE FAILURE AND THE CAR STILL COULD STOP, JUST NOT AS QUICKLY OR FIRMLY AS NORMAL. CAR WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED A LEAKING MASTER CYLINDER BUT THERE WAS NO BRAKE FAILURE WARNING LIGHT. AFTER THE SHOP REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BLEED THE SYSTEM THEY FOUND ANOTHER LEAK IN THE ABS CONTROLLER/ECU MODULE. AN INTERNAL LEAK, AND NO REPAIR IS POSSIBLE. THE SHOP SAYS THEY HAVE SPOKEN TO NISSAN AND LOOKED ONLINE BUT FIND NO INFORMATION ABOUT OTHER SIMILAR BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURES, NO TSB'S, NO RECALLS. I FIND IT VERY DISTURBING THAT TWO CRITICAL BRAKE PARTS COULD BOTH BE LEAKING AND FAILING, AND THE CAR SHOWED NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS, NO ABS WARNING LIGHTS, NO INDICATION OF ANY PROBLEM WHILE THE BRAKES HAD OBVIOUSLY ALREADY FAILED. THIS IS A FAIRLY LOW MILEAGE SINGLE-OWNER VEHICLE WHICH HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED PROPERLY. THE FAILED PARTS (BRAKE MASTER AND ABS CONTROLLER/ECU ARE BEING HELD AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
CAR WOULD NOT START, EVERYTHING WORK IN THE CAR, BUT IT WOULD START, PUT A NEW BATTERY IN THE CAR AND IT WORK. A COUPLE OF DAYS WENT BY (CAR STARTED EVERY TIME) ONE DAY CAR DID THE SAME THING GOT ANOTHER BATTERY FOR IT AND CAR STARTED AND RAN, 3RD TIME WAS DOWN TOWN THE CAR WOULD NOT RUN IT STARTED BUT WOULD NOT MOVE. GOT IT HOME FINALLY STARTED THE CAR THE NEXT DAY CAUSE I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS THE SECURITY ON WHY IT WOULDN'T DRIVE. I STARTED THE CAR TO LET IT WARM UP, WENT OUT 10 MIN. LATER AND THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. GOT ANOTHER BATTERY CAR STARTED TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL CENEX THEY CHECK THE CAR AND SAID THE ALTERNATOR WAS NOT WORKING. THEY DID A TEST, WHEN I WOULD TURN MY LIGHTS ON AND HEAT THE BATTERY WAS DRAINING. MY SON CHARGED THE LAST BATTERY THAT WAS IN MY CAR AND IT TOOK THE CHARGE AND STILL IS, SO 3 BATTERY CANT BE BAD. CALLED NISSAN TO SEE ABOUT THE RECALL ON MY NISSAN, NO MY CAR WAS NOT, I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY WOULD NOT PUT MY CAR ON THE LIST. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND NOT SURE WHERE IT CAME FROM MY CAR IS DOING THE SAME THING EVERYONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT, IF THE ALTERNATOR IS BAD COVER IT..PLUS THE CLOSES NISSAN DEALER IS 3 TO 4 HOURS AWAY. *TR
MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING. EVERYTHING IS STICKY AND STARTING TO GLARE, WHICH IMPEDES VISIBILITY. WHY CAN'T THERE BE A RECALL TO MAKE THESE AUTO MAKERS STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS? THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED TO OUR 2004 INFINITI. THE DASHBOARD BUBBLED, AND BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL, THEY DIDN'T NOTIFY OWNERS. BUT THEY DID REPLACE THEM IF YOU BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION. IT WAS A SECRET THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO LET OWNERS KNOW ABOUT, SO THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO REPAIR, UNLESS YOU INSISTED ON IT. OUR INFINITI WAS SERVICED REGULARLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY THEY DIDN'T NOTICE THE HUGE BUBBLING EFFECT ALL OVER THE DASHBOARD! WHY ISN'T NHTSA DOING SOMETHING FOR THE CONSUMER? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED AT THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE TRANSFER CASING WAS LEAKING FLUID AND NEEDED TO BE RESEALED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DEFECT COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY STALL. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE LEFT FRONT AXLE SHAFT WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
PURCHASE A 2009 NISSAN MURANO WAS TOLD IT HAD A BRANDED TITLE FROM CARFAX. CALLED 1800NISSAN 1 BEFORE I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE AND ASKED THEM TO RUN THE VIN NUMBER AND THE LADY WAS ABLE TO TELL ME THE WHOLE HISTORY BUT SAID THEY HAD NO RECORD THAT IT WAS A FACTORY BUYBACK SAID PROBABLY A MISTAKE WITH THE STATE WHO TITLED THE CAR. TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WHICH IS STILL COVERED BY NISSAN AND THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT COVER IT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS BRANDED AND ADMITTED TO ME ON A RECORDED LINE THE PERSON I TALKED TO GAVE ME FALSE INFORMATION. ALL SHE COULD SAY WAS SORRY THERE IS NOTHING NISSAN WILL DO FOR ME. I LEARNED THE CAR WAS BOUGHT BACK BECAUSE OF THE AIRBAGS AND WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASE THIS VEHILE KNOWING THAT. NISSAN DOES NOT WANT TO ASSIST ME IN ANY WAY. IVE WORKED IN THE CAR INDUSTRY FOR 16 YEARS AND I MADE SURE TO CALL TO FIND OUT WHAT ISSUES THAT VEHICLE HAD AND BOUGHT IT BECUASE THE REP I TALKED TO AT NISSAN SAID THERE WAS NO RECORD IT WAS EVER PURCHASED BACK OR NEVER TOLD ME IT HAD AIRBAG PROBLEM. THE LADY ADMITTED HER REP TOLD ME WRONG INFO AND ALL I CAN GET IS SORRY AND NOW IM GOING TO BE OUT $3800 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. ITS WRONG AND NISSAN NEED TO DO SOMETHING BETTER THEN SORRY FOR ME. IF I HAD THIS INFORMATION FROM NISSAN WHEN I CALLED WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED THIS CAR. PLEASE HELP ME ANY WAY YOU CAN THANKS.
I AM THE 'SECOND' OWNER. THE VEHICLE WAS GIFTED TO ME BY MY SON. IT PASSED THE AUTOCHECK VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT. I RECEIVED THE VEHICLE 5/11/13. FAILURE MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATE. WHEN STARTING ENGINE HUGE AMOUNT OF WHITE SMOKE EXITS THE 2 EXHAUST PIPES ENGULFING ENTIRE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED CONTINUALLY EVERY TIME I STARTED ENGINE. CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS DIRECTLY & WAS REFERRED TO DEALERSHIP. MY SON SPOKE DIRECTLY WITH DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE REQUIRED 30,000 MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED. AFTER 1 WEEK DEALERSHIP RECOMMEND NEW ENGINE. I WAS 6 MONTHS PAST THE WARRANTY DATE, BUT NISSAN REFUSED TO HONOR IT AS I WAS A SECOND OWNER. PER MY SON'S INSTRUCTIONS DEALERSHIP REMOVED SPARK PLUGS TO SOAK TOPS OF PISTONS. LET SOAK OVER NIGHT. PERFORMED A LEAK DOWN TEST TO FIND ALL THE CYLINDERS WITH 60% OR MORE LEAKAGE FROM RINGS AND VALVES, REMOVED OIL & PERFORMED 2 ENGINE FLUSHES, CLEANED ALL OIL OUT OF INTAKE MANIFORD, REINSTALLED PLUGS, CHANGED OIL AGAIN, PERFORMED MULTIPLE ROAD TESTS. PRECEDING SERVICE INCLUDED REPLACING ENGINE AIR FILTER. PERFORMING IDLE LEARNING PROCEDURE. FUEL SYSTEM SERVICED, CLEANED FUEL INJECTORS & THROTTLE BODY. REMOVED ALL BUILD UP FROM THROTTLE CHAMBER & PLATE. PERFORMED FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE AND 6 CYL TUNE UP/6 22401-EW61C PLUG-SPARKS. SERVICED COMPLETE COOLANT SYSTEM. SERVICED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, EXCHANGING FLUIDS IN CASE UP TO 6 QUARTS. PERFORMED FRONT & REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID EXCHANGE. DEALERSHIP KEPT VEHICLE 3-4 WEEKS, HOWEVER PROBLEM STILL EXISTS ALTHOUGH INTERMITTENTLY.
COOPER CS4 TOURING TIRES LEAKING AIR IN COLD WEATHER. I HAVE A NISSAN MURANO, THIS WINTER WITH THE VERY COLD TEMPERATURES THESE TIRES HAD TO HAVE AIR ADDED EVERY WEEK. I'M TALKING ABOUT 5 TO 6 POUNDS OF PRESSURE. HAD THEM BEAD SEALED BUT THEY CONTINUED TO LEAK. POSTED COMPLAINTS ON MURANO WEB SITES AND WAS TOLD BY OTHER DRIVERS WITH COOPER TIRES," THE PROBLEM WAS THE COOPER TIRES." HAD THE OEM GOODYEARS TILL 55K AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. I AM POSTING THIS NOW SO OTHER PEOPLE WITH THESE TIRES WILL CHECK THEM MORE OFTEN. *JS
VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED AT DEALER WITH CONFIRMED BRAKE/WHEEL LOCKING PROBLEM OCCURRING IN ONE WHEEL AT TIME AND RANDOM AMONG 3 OF THE 4 WHEELS EACH TIME APPLIED IN MODE SIMILAR TO ABRUPT STOP AND IN SLICK CONDITIONS.THIS BRAKING PROBLEM DID RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT 11/18/2013. THE COMPUTERS INDICATE EVERYTHING WORKING PROPERLY YET TECH'S ARE ABLE TO CONFIRM THAT IS NOT THE CASE. AFTER NUMEROUS TESTS, DEALER TECH'S WERE ADVISED BY NISSAN TO CEASE FURTHER TESTING AND OPEN CASE WITH CONSUMER AFFAIRS. INITIAL BRAKE ISSUE REPORTED 8/7/2012. BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. DID NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME BUT FREQUENT. CAUSED INCONSISTENT STOPPING CONTROL AND ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENT DRIVING AND EVEN PULLING A PARKING SPOT. DEALER REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER. VEHICLE WAS AGAIN RETURNED TO DEALER 12/26/2012 FOR SOFT/SPONGY BRAKE PROBLEM BRAKES WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH UNSAFE AND REDUCED BRAKING ABILITY. DEALER HAD VEHICLE UNTIL 1/4/2013. APPEARS THEY REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER AGAIN, TO NO AVAIL. THEY CONTACTED NISSAN TECH-LINE FOR ASSIST. REPLACED ABS CONTROL MOD ASSY AND BRAKES APPEARED NORMAL AGAIN. 6 DAYS LATER ON 1/10/2013. STREET WAS SNOW COVERED. I LIGHTLY APPLIED BRAKES & VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE CONTROL, WITH REAR OF THE VEHICLE TRYING TO COME AROUND. THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE A WHEEL OR BRAKE LOCKED UP CAUSING ME TO BEGIN SLIDING, THEN LIKE TRACTION CONTROL WAS MALFUNCTIONING CAUSING FURTHER LOSS OF CONTROL. THEY CHECKED IT & CONCLUDED EVERYTHING WAS WORKING PROPERLY.THE NEXT SNOW I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. ANYTIME I APPLIED BRAKES IN THE SNOW, I WOULD BEGIN TO LOSE CONTROL AS IF ONLY ONE BRAKE WAS WORKING. ON 11/18/2013 DRIVER HAD TO HIT BRAKES ABRUPTLY AND CAR WENT INTO A SKID WITH ONE TIRE LOCKING UP CAUSING HER TO NOT BE ABLE TO STOP SAFELY CAUSING A COLLISION.LEAVING SINGLE TIRE SKID MARK,APPROX 60 FEET BEFORE STOP. ABS DID NOT ACTIVATE. *TR
MY HUSBAND TOOK MY VEHICLE FOR A NORMAL OIL CHANGE. HE WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD A LEAK AND IT WOULD COST OVER $3,000.00 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. I DO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND BETWEEN NISSAN AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I AM BEING JUGGLED AROUND AS TO WHO IS RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THE FACTORY WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED DUE TO THE MANY PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM ON THE MURANO FOR QUITE SOME TIME. APPARENTLY IF THE TRANSFER CASE RUNS DRY OF THE SMALL AMOUNT OF OIL IT HAS, IT CAN LOCK UP THE ENTIRE DRIVETRAIN AND RENDER THE VEHICLE UN-DRIVABLE. THE TRANSFER CASE IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE CVT AND MANY OF THE FAILED CVT'S VEHICLES HAVE HAD CRACKED OR LEAVING TRANSFER CASES. SINCE THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF INCIDENTS AND NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, IT SEEMS UNBELIEVABLE THAT THEY ARE NOT FIXING THE TRANSFER CASE ISSUE, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY CONCERN. IT SEEMS FIT THAT SINCE NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUE THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTS FOR REPAIRS WHICH INCLUDES LABOR, PARTS AND ANY OTHER RELATED EXPENSES. *TR
MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO WILL HESITATE FOR 10-20 SECONDS WHILE I DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD OR HEADING UP HILL. I TOOK IT TO THE ESCONDIDO NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT MY TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY REPLACED IT AT A GREAT COST TO ME, BUT I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME HESITATION. IT IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE MY CAR WILL STOP FOR NO GOOD REASON, CAUSING THOSE BEHIND ME TO HAVE TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES. NISSAN STATES THAT BECAUSE I RECEIVED AN UPGRADED TRANSMISSION AND UPGRADED PARTS, I CAN EXPECT THIS SORT OF HESITATION FROM HERE ON OUT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND NISSAN IS NOT REPAIRING MY VEHICLE IN ORDER TO MAKE IT SAFE. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR BEGAN MAKING A LOUD NOISE WHEN THE DOOR WAS UNLOCKED OR LOCKED. I WENT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS BE $575 TO FIX. I CHOSE NOT TO FIX IT AT THAT TIME. NOW, A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER, THE DOOR WILL NOT ALWAYS LOCK WHEN THE BUTTON ON THE DOORHANDLE IS PUSHED OR WHEN THE KEY FOB IS USED. THE DOOR WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE THE LOUD NOISE, BUT SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO TRY TO LOCK THE DOOR 10-15 TIMES BEFORE THE DOOR WILL LOCK. THIS IS A CONCERN AS I NEED MY DOORS TO LOCK TO PROTECT ITEMS IN THE VEHICLE. ALSO, I AM AFRAID THE DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK OR LOCK IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.
I WAS TOLD TODAY THAT I HAVE LEAK IN THE TRANSFER CASE IN MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO AWD. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THE LEAK COULD CAUSE A FIRE IF THE FLUID DRIPS ONTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. AFTER SEARCHING THE WEB, I FOUND MANY OTHER NISSAN MURANOS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD BE FORCED TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIR (EST. GIVEN $2725) WHEN THE 60,000 MILE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE WITH EXTREME HESITATION. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S DESTINATION BUT FAILED TO RESTART ONCE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND WAS TOLD THE FACTORY WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO DOUBLE THAT OF ITS ORIGINAL OFFER DUE TO MANY PROBLEMS. I TOOK MY MURANO TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE CVT REPLACED AND WHILE I WAS THERE, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE TRANSFER CASE WAS LEAKING ALSO AND WOULD NEED A NEW SEAL BUT IT WAS EXPENSIVE. I RECEIVED A CALL LATER FROM THE DEALER STATING THAT MY PARTICULAR VIN CONTAINED A TRANSFER CASE THAT HAD NO SEPARATE SEAL OPTION AND THE ENTIRE CASE WOULD NEED REPLACED FOR OVER $3,000. WITH VERY LITTLE LOOKING I SEE THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM ON THE MURANO FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND THEY HAVE CHANGED THE WARRANTY TO COVER THE FAULTY CVT TRANSMISSION BUT NOT THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH HAS GONE HAND IN HAND WITH PREVIOUS CVT'S. (IF IT'S ONE, IT'S BOTH) APPARENTLY, IF THE CASE RUNS DRY OF OIL (WHICH IT DOESN'T HAVE MUCH IN THE FIRST PLACE) IT CAN LOCK UP THE ENTIRE DRIVETRAIN AND RENDER THE VEHICLE UN-DRIVABLE. THE TRANSFER CASE IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE CVT AND MANY OF THE FAILED CVT'S VEHICLES HAVE HAD CRACKED OR LEAKING TRANSFER CASES AS WELL. CONSIDERING THE NUMBER OF INCIDENTS AND AWARENESS OF NISSAN WITH THIS ISSUE, IT SEEMS ABSURD THEY NOT REMEDY THE TRANSFER CASE ISSUE, ESPECIALLY WITH IT BEING A POTENTIAL SAFETY CONCERN. ON JANUARY 22, 2014 I MAILED A LETTER TO NISSAN OF AMERICA ASKING FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE NEW FOB I HAD TO PURCHASE. NISSAN WAS UNABLE TO OFFER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FOB AS THE VEHICLE BEING OUTSIDE OF THE NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY.
